Show Notes

Johnny and David invite you in once again to the Malbolge, for an episode of RE:SPAWN that would have to try pretty hard to be more 3-heavy than it already is! BUT, math is for Psalms 137 and King Spawn, and this is a double main-title episode, so put away those calculators and pick up some SPAWN!

Right now the Toddfather and Rory McConville are treating SPAWN like the spaghetti in Lady And The Tramp; we can't wait until the kiss! We discover why Marc sided with Jim Downing, who the currently leader of Hell is, and just what happens when you and your angel buddies get stuck in the Dead Zones! What a trip!

Speaking of trips: you should trip on over to Instagram and give our buddy Ray some love! He's got some cool stuff to show you, including a dope Spawn insignia floor rug! Give him some love! (www.instagram.com/spawn_nimrod)

Also, you really REALLY should be searching out Bryain. He makes our music and shares much joy! We love him, and you should too! (www.instagram.com/t.bryain.voyler)

We're over on the 'gram, too, sharing silly pictures of our toys, making silly videos of our faces, and just generally giving a visual component to the show! (www.instagram.com/regardingspawnpod)

May the Scorched be with you!

[00:00:00] Speaker A: It has to be stated. The book you are holding is another record breaking issue. [00:00:04] Speaker B: Why is that? [00:00:05] Speaker A: Because every issue after Spawn 301, the original record breaker, is a new record. So for the rest of my life, every new issue of Spawn is upping the record by one. If I get a little sassy, maybe I'll even put world record on every cover from here on out. Tod McFarland December 2019 good evening and welcome to the Malbols. This is regarding Spawn, the world's best spawn podcast. I'm your co host, John Fisher. [00:01:10] Speaker B: And I'm your co host, David Williams. And Johnny, I think we got a record breaker here, too. We got the record breaking 43rd episode of regarding Spawn. [00:01:23] Speaker A: I think we have a record. Yeah, that's a record. We also have a record for most threes in the number of the titles we're covering. This is a very three heavy episode of regarding Spawn. [00:01:31] Speaker B: It would be even better if it were the third most three heavy episode. [00:01:38] Speaker A: It's the third most three heavy episode. [00:01:40] Speaker B: So many fucking threes here, dude. 43rd episode. Well, let's get into those numbers, Johnny. So what are we doing here? [00:01:48] Speaker A: So welcome to regarding Spawn. Wow, this is like a record. This is a record breaker. We're getting right to it. [00:01:54] Speaker B: Yeah, we're not faffing about. [00:01:55] Speaker A: Well, we're talking numbers. [00:01:56] Speaker B: We got too many threes to get to. [00:01:58] Speaker A: We are doing two issues of mainline spawn, as we always do. Usually. We've been mixing it up recently by doing, like, a scorch and a spawn and king Spawn and a gunslinger, and we're still going to be doing that. But we have closed the gap on scorch. So there are zero classic quote unquote scorch issues that we haven't covered. We just have the newer ones coming out. We're, like, about a couple months behind to give you all some spoiler buffer. So today we are back to doing two mainline spawns. This is exciting, David. We haven't done this since the Bowery Alleys. Bad audio. [00:02:35] Speaker B: I love a. I love a double. [00:02:36] Speaker A: Main title because you get to see where we were and where we are and make connections, and things are still important, that there's still things seeing things played out that were set up in this 303. Even now in 339. [00:02:50] Speaker B: Yeah, it's real fun going back and seeing. We can see before and after the baton toss right now between the Tod father and Rory McConville. And so when we actually get to the baton handover, it'll be a wonderful thing. But seeing both sides of it right now is so much fun. [00:03:11] Speaker A: So we've got those two issues. We're covered today. We also. Well, I don't want to spoil anything. We got a special guest in the studio with me. He's not going to be talking to way later, if at all. But just keep you on your edge of your seat there. [00:03:29] Speaker B: I'm pretty sure that you won't need to introduce him. He'll introduce himself, I'm pretty sure. Slight spoilers for the gender there. Sorry, I should have said them to keep the mystery up, but we're two white guys in our 30s talking about spawn on the Internet, so most likely our special guests are going to be male. [00:03:54] Speaker A: Yeah. Not a single episode of Respawn is yet to pass the Bechtel test. [00:04:00] Speaker B: We need to get on that. I would try to hire. [00:04:03] Speaker A: We have a Wanda takeover episode where they bitch about us. [00:04:09] Speaker B: I don't know if Wanda would be more embarrassed herself or more embarrassed for me. If she were to come on this, she would be like, what the fuck are we doing? What? I was telling her about some of the jokes that we've come up with on the show, and she was. I'm honestly, honestly judging you right now. And it's like, I don't fucking care. I don't. [00:04:33] Speaker A: Speaking of jokes in bits, I just found a little bit of a console. Zuvio's weapon on my chair. [00:04:41] Speaker B: Man, they don't make them like they used to on Jaku, do they? [00:04:46] Speaker A: No, they sure don't. They're just falling apart. [00:04:47] Speaker B: They're relying on scrap metal from imperial wreckages, so. [00:04:53] Speaker A: Makes sense over there in Nema outpost. Yeah, that's right. I know the name. [00:05:00] Speaker B: How many quarter portions are you having? [00:05:02] Speaker A: Oh, man, don't be talking about food this early, dude. That little bread thing. The little portion bread. [00:05:09] Speaker B: So, man, I want that. I want insta bread. [00:05:12] Speaker A: They have to have that at Galaxy's edge. [00:05:14] Speaker B: They have to. [00:05:16] Speaker A: I mean, they have to. I know they've put a lot of research into. I guess they now have, like, a lightsaber. Well, I saw the video. I never trust the video, but evidently they have, like, a real lightsaber thing. [00:05:30] Speaker B: It basically just looks like a gigantic welding torch. [00:05:34] Speaker A: It just looks like a gigantic welding torch. But no, basically, somehow it creates a lightsaber from just a hilt that you can carry. Yeah, who knows? Crazy Disney technology. But they need to be taking those resources now that they've done that, to make that bread, they don't have it. I want the ray bread. I want the Jaku bread. [00:05:54] Speaker B: Then it could be a thing where they could convince kids to help keep galaxy's edge clean. And they get to bring so many pieces of garbage up and they get so many quarter portions for every 20 pieces of garbage they have. [00:06:10] Speaker A: That'd be hilarious. And if you have. They have like a toy r bb eight. And they're like, we'll give you 20 portions for that. The kid's like, no. [00:06:19] Speaker B: Or even if you find the talking trash can, the talking trash can automatically gives you like a prepackaged thing of like 300 pieces of garbage so you can get like a full portion. [00:06:31] Speaker A: There's a talking trash can in Disneyland? [00:06:33] Speaker B: Yeah, there's a couple of them. They scatter them around the park and then they also move where they are. But it's got like a little camera and a microphone and a speaker in it. And they actually have a cast member hidden in a bunker somewhere that just talks to you. [00:06:48] Speaker A: That's wild. Well, speaking of bread, if we're getting into it and start with spawn 303, I got to bust into this issue, which is worth. Speaking of bread. I'm getting to it, David. Speaking of bread, this fucker says it's worth the fucking $18. [00:07:04] Speaker B: Oh shit. That's a lot of bread. [00:07:07] Speaker A: That's a lot of bread. [00:07:08] Speaker B: Well, that's a lot of regular bread. But like two loafs of that fancy. Dave's killer bread, man. Have you ever had that? Dave's killer bread. It'll keep you regular as a motherfucker. Holy shit. [00:07:20] Speaker A: It's got like, I've had it. We bought it from Costco a few times. [00:07:23] Speaker B: It's got like 4000 grains in it. It's amazing. He also employs a lot of ex cons, which is very nice. [00:07:30] Speaker A: That's good. [00:07:32] Speaker B: There's no reason to judge anybody with jail on their resume because the way the system is supposed to work is they've been rehabilitated. And if you judge them for that, then the rehabilitation thereby fails. So be nice to your ex cons, dudes. [00:07:48] Speaker A: David. [00:07:49] Speaker B: What? [00:07:51] Speaker A: I pulled out this issue and I was just talking about how much it was worth and then I set it on the sticky part of the sleeve it was in and it ruined the back. [00:08:03] Speaker B: Well, you can't have bread without a little jelly, can you, Johnny? [00:08:07] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't think I'll ever sell this, but it's just funny. [00:08:11] Speaker B: That's one thing I don't like about buying floppy issues from the backstock bin is I always get the tape stuck on it when I'm trying to pull it out. [00:08:21] Speaker A: Exactly. [00:08:22] Speaker B: You think I've been doing it long enough that I would remember to just remove the tape fully. But no, I'm just like, I got to keep the tape there so I can tape it back down later, and then, bam. Right on the. [00:08:33] Speaker A: Yeah, I buy the resealable ones. So that was my own fault. [00:08:37] Speaker B: Yeah. It especially sucks when you just find some random, batshit crazy seventy s or eighty s book. So it's got that real shitty paper. As soon as that tape sticks, you just got to have a piece of tape on your comic book, or else you won't have a comic book. [00:09:00] Speaker A: Well, I have a comic book in front of me that's spawn 303. Let's start off with the covers. As we do. [00:09:05] Speaker B: As we do. So, Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, Johnny. If you ask for my resignation for this, I will be fully in support of it. So we know that. [00:09:18] Speaker A: Lay it on the table. Lay it on me. [00:09:20] Speaker B: Jeez, it's so hard to confess, because it's just such a bad thing I've done. So we know that in this getting caught up in the main title spawns that I've been relying on my humble bundle I got several years ago. Humble bundle ends with issue 302. I actually think it originally came out. Like, you could buy it the week before 303 came out, so that way you could have entry point jump on, get all the issues. And so last night, I was furiously looking for issue 303 in my Humble bundle downloads, and then I realized, shit, I don't have it. But then I realized on top of that, that I bought the fucking trade paperback that covers from spawn 302 to 307. And I should have been talking about that because it's the aftermath of the record breaking. [00:10:20] Speaker A: It's fun to talk about the different formats. You have basically at least three ways you could read this digital trade paperback floppy. [00:10:28] Speaker B: Yeah. So, I mean, I totally dropped the ball. I am sorry about that. But I'm reading today from Spawn, aftermath trade paperback covers 302 to 307. And, Johnny, why this is important. There's a motherfucking cover gallery in the back of this trade paperback, which means, nice. [00:10:48] Speaker A: I love it when they do that. [00:10:49] Speaker B: Which means not only did you have that kick ass Tod McFarland only cover from Spawn 302, but I have in the back of this the black and white and the color version of the COVID from 302. So I am looking at it, and. [00:11:06] Speaker A: It'S, oh, hell yeah. With Jessica and Spawn on it. Yeah, with spawn. [00:11:09] Speaker B: With that big old fucking sword. It's great. That said. [00:11:18] Speaker A: So, 303, the COVID I got. I got the floppy here. I bought it from a big old couple of lots I bought about a year or so ago from eBay. I filled in basically 299 to, like, 325 wherever I actually started buying them. I got the a cover here, which bills itself as hell hunt part two by Matina. Francesco Matina. [00:11:44] Speaker B: All right. It takes the classic origins trade dressing that they've got, where it's got that bar in the background and there's white and it's got spawn on it. That's the one you're talking about. [00:11:57] Speaker A: Yep. [00:11:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, man, that's a fucking cool cover. I'm looking at it right now. It's clean. Ooh, look at all those bubbles in that acid. [00:12:04] Speaker A: Yeah, he's in the acid bath, or. [00:12:06] Speaker B: I guess a necroplasm bath. That is a great cover, Johnny. [00:12:09] Speaker A: I don't know what's going on in front of him. Other. His legs are, like, spiking out. His legs are spiking out. [00:12:15] Speaker B: He's melting. It's like he got caught in the. [00:12:20] Speaker A: Yes, yes. It's like he got caught in the dip. Oh, man, that shit. You scare the shit out of me on Roger Rabbit. [00:12:26] Speaker B: Fuck, man. The rolling over, Christopher Lloyd with the steamroller, and then he just, like, noodles up like a flatman. Oh, man. [00:12:35] Speaker A: And blows himself up with, like, air, helium or something. [00:12:38] Speaker B: Yeah, that movie is fucked up. I shouldn't have watched that as a child, but I watched it all the time. There's understandably 80s Amblin movies. [00:12:46] Speaker A: They're so mean and violent. [00:12:48] Speaker B: Understandably, there's a reason that Wanda hates it. I tried to watch it with her, and she's like, I'm not fucking watching that. And I was like, why not? And she's like, I hate it. And I was like, how do you hate this? I could see why you would. [00:13:02] Speaker A: It has a mean streak, which a lot of those Amblin movies, they get meaner. I don't know. The ambulance have, like, an edge to them. [00:13:09] Speaker B: Yeah, I was just listening to a different podcast about movies, as all podcasts are movie podcasts. And it was just these two guys talking about how fucking sad kids movies were in the non Disney movies. The rescuers, fucking depressed. I guess that was a Disney movie. Fucking depressing. But you've got, like, land before time. Jesus Christ. You've got. What's the one? The big one? An american tale. Holy shit, dude. [00:13:43] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, that's an ambulance movie. [00:13:46] Speaker B: Holy shit. I watched five goes west, like, 20 times before I even knew that it was a sequel. And five goes west is all fun all the time. But then I watched an american tale once when I had the flu and I was like, what the fuck is this? [00:14:02] Speaker A: You're just listening to Amblin movies. Both land before time and five by Amblin. [00:14:06] Speaker B: Oh, man. And then there's we're back. A dinosaur tale. Oh, man. When they turn into actual dinosaurs at that circus. Spoilers for we're back. [00:14:17] Speaker A: Pretty sure that was Amblin as well. [00:14:19] Speaker B: Man. So fucked up. [00:14:21] Speaker A: All those Steven Spielberg kids movies. He had a mean streak. The secret of Ned after Temple of doom. He couldn't shake it off. That wasn't ambulance, but yeah, that one. And watershed down. [00:14:30] Speaker B: Oh, man, I never watched watershed down. I tried to read the book, but then I got distracted by the Red Wall series. Fucking red wall. [00:14:38] Speaker A: Oh, watershed down is great. [00:14:40] Speaker B: I should probably read. [00:14:41] Speaker A: How's red wall? [00:14:42] Speaker B: Red wall. It was great. Have you ever read them? [00:14:45] Speaker A: A bunch of my friends were into them in fifth grade. It wasn't for me. I was more into goosebumps and Star wars bunks. [00:14:52] Speaker B: You don't like the idea of an epic fantasy based around rodents that live in an abbey and are terrorized by a badger? [00:15:00] Speaker A: I've been on brand since fifth grade. I was reading Star wars books and goosebumps. [00:15:04] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:15:05] Speaker A: Horror and Star wars. [00:15:07] Speaker B: It took me so long to get into goosebumps because my sister read them and the COVID scared the shit out of me. The fucking masks. So the haunted mask. Two specifically. And then what's the name of the one where it's a picture of a family cookout, but it's all skeletons? [00:15:28] Speaker A: Say cheese and dies. [00:15:29] Speaker B: Say cheese and dies. Those two just like fucking. I was like, nah, I can't do this. I can't be in the same room as these fucking books. I gotta. [00:15:37] Speaker A: Too scary. [00:15:38] Speaker B: Too scary. And then the first goosebumps book proper that I ever got myself was beast from the east. And I don't remember a damn thing about it, but I remember just being like, oh, this beast is from the east. The beast. [00:15:52] Speaker A: That's terrifying. I read them, but they scared me, definitely. But they felt illicit. Yeah, like Stephen King for kids. Good old RL Stein. Good job, RL Stein. [00:16:04] Speaker B: There's that little clip from masterclass that keeps coming up where he's talking about how people always call him Stephen King for kids, and he's like, oh, that's cool. And then he talks about how once he met Stephen King and Stephen King was upset because he's like, I can't fucking do fairgrounds anymore because you've done all the fairgrounds stuff and Aristotle was just like, yeah, that's pretty cool. [00:16:26] Speaker A: Kids go to fairgrounds a lot. True. [00:16:28] Speaker B: They. They do do. [00:16:29] Speaker A: So there's two other covers. Three other covers. One of them is weirdly exclusive. [00:16:36] Speaker B: Which one is that? [00:16:38] Speaker A: So they have according to cover price, which is what I use to look up these things. You have to pay $60 a year to use it, but whatever, in the long run, that's not that much. There's a Singapore Comic Con exclusive cover worth $313, $10. [00:16:54] Speaker B: Too much? [00:16:58] Speaker A: No, it's $20. Too little. It should be halfway to the mark of the beast. [00:17:03] Speaker B: Then that's more threes. I just think cover price and issue number being the same is a perfect synergy. [00:17:13] Speaker A: And then the other two covers are by Todd McFarlane. It's awesome. Medieval swan. [00:17:17] Speaker B: I have it right here in this trade paperback, and it is nice, man. Johnny, I don't know if we've talked enough about medieval being a fucking badass, but he's fucking badass. So cool. [00:17:33] Speaker A: I love the Todd McFarlane cover. [00:17:35] Speaker B: Yeah, it's a good one. [00:17:37] Speaker A: So, yeah, cover price. They've got a Singapore Comic Con exclusive. It doesn't have an artist. It just says Singapore Comic Con. So I don't know, man. It is, but it's just like a spawn. [00:17:48] Speaker B: It's a pretty badass spawn. Holy crap. It's just Alciman Spawn standing there, and he's got. His chains are just, like, going around his arm. [00:17:58] Speaker A: I bet Petru Spawn or Spawn hunter has one or two. [00:18:02] Speaker B: One of 250 spawn hunter has two. [00:18:07] Speaker A: So those are the covers. Pretty great stuff. [00:18:10] Speaker B: Yeah, real good stuff. Real good stuff. Another problem with the fact that this is a trade paperback, Johnny. I don't have that opening material that you got, dude. [00:18:20] Speaker A: Oh, my God. [00:18:21] Speaker B: So, like, the first page of the trade paperback, it says writer Tod McFarlane, artist Jason Sean Alexander. Philip Tan completely skips over the fact that Todd McFarlane does some interior work. [00:18:34] Speaker A: So Rob Liefeld must be the editor of that trade paperback. [00:18:39] Speaker B: It must be. It does say here, additional writing by Philip Tan. So somewhere within these six issues, Philip Tan does some writing duties. [00:18:50] Speaker A: No, the reason I said, oh, my God, dude, is because the recap is going to take me a minute and 30 seconds to read. It is, like a paragraph. It's so funny because let's just get through the credits, and we'll talk about it. Okay, so art in this issue is by Jason son Alexander. Jason. Sean Alexander and Todd McFarlane. Plot Tod McFarlane and John Goff. [00:19:14] Speaker B: Tomo John Goff isn't mentioned as a writer in the fucking trade paperback. What the. [00:19:19] Speaker A: Wow. [00:19:21] Speaker B: Wow, man. [00:19:22] Speaker A: What an omission. Tom Wurkachkowski, of course, as we know. On lettering. [00:19:26] Speaker B: Oh, yes. [00:19:27] Speaker A: Doing all the issues of Spawn. [00:19:28] Speaker B: He is right there. [00:19:29] Speaker A: Worked on the most spawn as anybody. More than anybody. Yeah, we got Peterwald, Steigerwald on colors. And then, as we said, mattina McFarlane, eminem as the COVID artist. So, David Straffin. I'm reading the whole thing. I guess that's the bit, right? [00:19:50] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. [00:19:51] Speaker A: Well, what's so funny about this? Well, I'll read it, and then we'll talk about it. Him. Previously in Spawn. In Hellhunt, part one, Spawn, Al Simmons, carries on his pursuit to eradicate the evil that treats the world as its playground, simultaneously gaining recognition as a vigilante by the press. While in a weakened state, he fights to free victims of a demon run human trafficking ring. The demons try to use the lack of Spawn's powers against him while putting up a fight with only his military training. And a healthy expenditure of ammunition. At his exposure. It does say at his exposure, Al finds himself short of winning the bloody battle. As he's about to fall victim to his demonic prey, the creature is extinguished in a brutal fashion by one Jessica priest. She's looking for answers that only Al can give. To her mysterious reception of Hellspawn powers. That's okay. Am I reading it wrong or is that another typo? She's looking for answers that only Al can give. To her mysterious reception of Hellspawn powers. And who is the larger than life ultra demon that seemingly stripped them from her as easily as they were granted? [00:21:08] Speaker B: Johnny, that's it. That took longer than the entirety of episode 42. [00:21:14] Speaker A: This took longer than reading the issue. I mean, this is the Tom McFarland dialogue moves. [00:21:21] Speaker B: That was insane. Holy cow. [00:21:23] Speaker A: Well, what's so crazy is that there's no commonality. Like, the one last week was, like, Spawn reached a record. This one is a novel. [00:21:36] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:36] Speaker A: And that one sentence is a doozy. [00:21:39] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:21:39] Speaker A: I'm not going to read it again because I already read it, like, four times on Mike. But, man, that was a doozy. [00:21:44] Speaker B: That was insane. Oh, man. I do like how it starts. [00:21:48] Speaker A: Godfather had the good Red Bull that day. [00:21:50] Speaker B: I like how it does start with in hell hunt, part one. Like, making sure we get the name of the miniseries in there. [00:22:00] Speaker A: Yeah, but it's just funny that there's no commonality. How long they're going to be, how much detail they're going to go into if they're even going to be correct. I love it. It warms my heart. I'm not making fun. I love you, Spawn. [00:22:12] Speaker B: I give you a kiss. [00:22:13] Speaker A: I'm going to kiss it. [00:22:14] Speaker B: I am so upset that that is not in this trade paperback, Johnny. [00:22:18] Speaker A: No, it's great. It's what makes it was. I literally looked at it and just laughed because it was so long. And I was like, why? So, yeah, we open up, basically, as that very lengthy recap said, we open up with Jessica and Al, of course, as you do when you meet someone in a comic book fighting. What do you do, David? [00:22:42] Speaker B: You fight. [00:22:45] Speaker A: It's like a dance. It's like shaking hands. [00:22:47] Speaker B: Well, they actually refer to it as a dance later on. It starts off with a bonk. Honestly, man, I knew were going to mention it. How could you not? It's just like, right fucking there. Johnny tits ahoy. Johnny tits ahoy. [00:23:09] Speaker A: Jessica is wearing a very revealing outfit and crouching and shooting a shotgun as Spawn's chains come around her. And she back swans over him and kicks him. [00:23:23] Speaker B: Yeah. And she tries to kick at his head. And he catches her foot and then sends his chains out at her, knocks. [00:23:32] Speaker A: Her shotgun out of her hand. [00:23:33] Speaker B: He's got her all chained up. He's like, why are you here? And he's. Oh, his neck. [00:23:41] Speaker A: I love the right shout out to Tom o with that. Trust no one. [00:23:45] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:23:47] Speaker A: Little lettering there where he's like explaining why he's fighting Jessica. He's basically been betrayed so many times, he trusts no one. [00:23:55] Speaker B: Yeah, it's real good. [00:23:57] Speaker A: Okay. His neck on the next page, he looks like Et. [00:24:02] Speaker B: It is long and very. He is. He is an upset man right now. [00:24:12] Speaker A: This is his little Billy Kincaid string up, basically. [00:24:17] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:24:19] Speaker A: Another bonk. [00:24:23] Speaker B: And then Jessica priest is talking about how she's pissed off because Nick's is dead. [00:24:29] Speaker A: Little callback. A little 299. [00:24:32] Speaker B: 299, yeah. And she's like, weird shit is happening. And he says, prove it. And so she gives him the green eye. Johnny. [00:24:40] Speaker A: Give him that green eye. [00:24:42] Speaker B: She gives him the necro eye. [00:24:46] Speaker A: What does the green eye mean? Like, that's. Yeah, the green eye of envy. Is there a green eye in Great Gatsby? [00:24:57] Speaker B: I don't know. It's been so long since I read the. [00:25:00] Speaker A: Read the. Let's do a great Gatsby episode. [00:25:03] Speaker B: Sure thing. [00:25:04] Speaker A: We'll read it and we'll watch the Baz Lerman movie. [00:25:07] Speaker B: Nub nose motorboat. [00:25:09] Speaker A: Hello, old sport. [00:25:13] Speaker B: We could just become a Baz Luhrmann podcast. That'd be fine. I'd be cool. With that. [00:25:20] Speaker A: That movie rules. That great Gatsby is awesome. [00:25:22] Speaker B: I haven't seen it. I should definitely. Really. I should correct that. [00:25:27] Speaker A: You got Toby Maguire, Leo. Joel Edgerton's really good in it. [00:25:33] Speaker B: Nice. That's a good cast. [00:25:36] Speaker A: So she's got the power eyes, and he sees that green eye of envy, and so he lets her go. [00:25:43] Speaker B: Your eyes. How'd you do that? I like how he. Then he's got his finger up, kind of like in the come hither motion. Yeah. [00:25:53] Speaker A: Come see. It's like when your parents think you're high. Come here. Look me in the eye. My friend Aaron one time came home high, and he was so high that his mom tried to look him in the eye, and he fell over backwards trying to avoid her eyes. So she knew he was really high. [00:26:14] Speaker B: That's not a giveaway. [00:26:17] Speaker A: Not at all. [00:26:18] Speaker B: Then we got the uncomfortable close talking. [00:26:22] Speaker A: Yes. [00:26:23] Speaker B: Jessica's just like, so do you want to talk, or do we keep dancing? [00:26:27] Speaker A: She leaps and makes that. It's basically, they both land with, like, guns on each. She's got guns. A kimbo. [00:26:35] Speaker B: And she's got one, like, right up against his will. [00:26:38] Speaker A: You can tell. Swans a little shocked because he's got one surprise round eye. He's hiding it. Okay, but he's still a little worried. [00:26:45] Speaker B: Yeah, she got the drop on him. [00:26:48] Speaker A: She got the drop on him. [00:26:49] Speaker B: But she's not afraid, Johnny, because he needs to find out why. [00:26:52] Speaker A: And then her hair turns into savage dragon. [00:26:55] Speaker B: It does. [00:26:58] Speaker A: She's got, like, a fin for hair. I love the hair in this. It's just always crazy. [00:27:02] Speaker B: It's great. Especially Al's hair. It's so good. [00:27:05] Speaker A: Oh, my God. He's bald. [00:27:08] Speaker B: He does have a nice little goatee, though. Yeah. [00:27:11] Speaker A: Al looks good. While we're speaking of Al, I just want to say, I just want to put goodwill out in the universe to Jamie. [00:27:18] Speaker B: Jamie Foxx. [00:27:19] Speaker A: He's been hospitalized, and I hope he's doing okay, because I love Jamie Foxx, and he's my spawn. [00:27:26] Speaker B: Yeah, 100% besides Michael J. [00:27:29] Speaker A: White, obviously, but he's my new spawn. [00:27:33] Speaker B: 100% earnest goodwill towards Jamie Foxx and his family. Get better, dude, we don't want anything to happen to you. He's only, like, in his late 50s. That's too young for stuff to happen. [00:27:45] Speaker A: He's a badass. [00:27:46] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:27:46] Speaker A: And he's going to be spawn. [00:27:48] Speaker B: He's going to be spawn. Well, first he's going to be so. [00:27:52] Speaker A: Yeah. That's all that matters. [00:27:54] Speaker B: We wish you a speedy recovery, Mr. Fox. [00:27:56] Speaker A: So basically, Jessica's like, okay, I saw you on tv and all this shit happened. So we know that Nix was looking for these shadows players and trying to figure this out. And Jessica's got her phone with a map on it. [00:28:10] Speaker B: Yeah. Because she's tracking Nix's phone, right? [00:28:14] Speaker A: That is Nix's phone? [00:28:16] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:28:18] Speaker A: I don't know. We'll get into it. But this is a little. [00:28:22] Speaker B: That is Nix's phone. Yeah. [00:28:24] Speaker A: It's a little confusing. It's a little tomfathery. It's okay. [00:28:27] Speaker B: Yeah. All you need to know is that something's happened, and she's found something out, and she's caught Al in kind of a lie, and so now he has to explain. So they just shadow blast into the secret house where Mark Rosen is. He's like, oh, no. Behind you. [00:28:54] Speaker A: You said you never bring anyone here. He locked me here and said I couldn't bring anybody here. [00:29:00] Speaker B: He's like, you're just bringing random people. This look that Al and Jessica share is maybe a little too tender for their relationship at this point, but I love it. I love it. They're trying to tell him that he's going to be a big brother. Yeah, that look so good. And she just. She just spawns out. [00:29:30] Speaker A: Yep. Turns into badass. [00:29:34] Speaker B: What, this is your sister or something? [00:29:39] Speaker A: I like the ass with his sister. [00:29:45] Speaker B: And then she hands over the phone, and he looks at it for a half a second and finds out a whole bunch of shit about it that you literally can't tell from just looking at a phone. If you're looking at a phone and it's got data on it, you can't tell what Code was written to get that data on there and delete it from a previous computer. Johnny, that code would be somewhere else. It would probably been deleted off of the computer you transferred it from. [00:30:13] Speaker A: Well, you can't. [00:30:16] Speaker B: Mark Rosen can, man. [00:30:18] Speaker A: He says he's on some. He says he's the best. [00:30:22] Speaker B: He's on some echo level shit. Know? They tried to turn him into a half droid man. And so he's got the little thing, and he can communicate with all the computers in the Star wars universe. [00:30:35] Speaker A: He's a stud. He says he's a stud. [00:30:38] Speaker B: He is a stud. He's a sweetheart. Oh. Have you been reading? Watching bad batch? I might have just spoiled something for you if you haven't been watching it. [00:30:45] Speaker A: I have not. Watching clone wars. [00:30:48] Speaker B: Fuck. Sorry for spoiling a person in. David, you got to get on that bad batch tip. Bad batch. [00:30:56] Speaker A: It comes up a lot in my, don't. I don't want to dismiss a medium, and I like a lot in the medium, but I don't spend a lot of time watching animated shows. I don't know why. [00:31:13] Speaker B: Yeah, I get it. But especially as a lore person, man, you would enjoy the shit out of it. [00:31:23] Speaker A: No, I'm excited getting through the Clone wars. [00:31:28] Speaker B: Yeah. There's so much to watch. There's so much to watch. How far are you in the Clone wars? Still in the second season. [00:31:33] Speaker A: I'm in the good shit. Oh, no. I'm like, the fifth season. [00:31:35] Speaker B: Oh, nice. [00:31:37] Speaker A: I'm the one before, when they made that final season, which I think was six, right? [00:31:42] Speaker B: It was either six or seven. I don't remember. [00:31:44] Speaker A: It's six. It's six. [00:31:48] Speaker B: Man. I like that the clones are basically kind of like Pokemon, where they're all technically the same person, but they're all so very different, and they each have, like, a stat sheet, and you have to remember which one is which. It's great. I love the clones. I love the clones so much. [00:32:09] Speaker A: No, it's cool how they gave them characters and stuff. It's taking a cue from the movie where you have Captain Commander Cody. [00:32:16] Speaker B: Commander Cody. Oh, man. Fucking. I can't talk about Commander Cody, Johnny. You will see why. I guess you already know why. But it's like, man, back to spawn. [00:32:30] Speaker A: Because they're really good friends. [00:32:32] Speaker B: Let's get off this. They're looking at Star wars. [00:32:35] Speaker A: Yeah. You said it would open the floodgates and take that Star wars episode. [00:32:39] Speaker B: It did. We're one track mind. Oh, yeah. Marcus is able to track, like, necroplasm across the world, and spawn is just, like, twelve. There's twelve spots of necroplasm around the world. I only did five. And everybody's like, what the fuck are you talking about? You buried slivers of your necroplasm. [00:33:02] Speaker A: What? No. Well, he gets this from Nix's phone. Nick is the one that just figured this out. But yes. It's like finding out you have all these kids in different countries, and you're like, what? I never even been to France. [00:33:16] Speaker B: He's like that Jimmy's bastard series, which is basically every time that it's basically James Bond, but every time he has sex, he has a child, and so there's just like a ton of little James Bond children running around. [00:33:31] Speaker A: That's hilarious. Is that a comic book? [00:33:33] Speaker B: Yeah, it's a comic book. There's also an older one called Lobo infanticide, which is. Lobo has a whole bunch of little children all over the universe, and they all team up together to try to kill him. It's just four issues of Lobo killing a whole bunch of babies that look exactly like him. And it is peak 90s ridiculousness that is. It's absolute filth and garbage and a wonderful, wonderful time. It makes you feel just like a twelve year old boy again, Johnny. It's great. [00:34:10] Speaker A: So Jessica's like, you put some of your power in your nyx, didn't you? Why? And you didn't give her a killed. [00:34:19] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, man. And that's true. [00:34:21] Speaker A: We know that cog killed her for necroplasm. [00:34:25] Speaker B: The necroplasm, it just gets so chilly right there. Like, oh, man. There's no way Al can even do anything to try to deny. [00:34:35] Speaker A: Got. He's caught. [00:34:37] Speaker B: He got. And then we got a three month previous flashback here. We're in the Vatican three months earlier. And the amount of stairs that these men are taking, Johnny, these priests. I assume they're going to be priests. No, maybe not. But the amount of stairs these guys are taking leads me to believe that these are in the fabled Vatican catacombs, which down there, which it's supposed to be. All of the shit that proves God's existence that's been scattered around the world is supposed to be held there. A whole bunch of relics, a whole bunch of weird, weird things that are like grail esque type things. But maybe not the Grail. Maybe also the Grail. Although if you've been watching basically, like. [00:35:29] Speaker A: The warehouse in Raiders of Lost Ark. [00:35:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:35:32] Speaker A: Indiana Jones would have a field day. [00:35:34] Speaker B: At the would have. It would have been great. That Mrs. Davis show is fucking phenomenal, Johnny. [00:35:42] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. I only watched the first episode, so. [00:35:46] Speaker B: That there's very little that I can talk about that doesn't spoil anything. It's a very hard show to talk about. A. [00:35:54] Speaker A: Because how many episodes are out now? [00:35:58] Speaker B: Seven. [00:35:59] Speaker A: They released them all. Oh, they did. [00:36:01] Speaker B: No, they released three or four that first day, and then there's been one a week since then. So we're on like six or seven right now, but every 15 minutes there's a new twist that is just like, how could this get more bonkers? And then it just keeps getting more bonkers. It's great. It's great. [00:36:23] Speaker A: I got to catch up. So much to watch. [00:36:27] Speaker B: Oh, man. This post peak television is for the birds. There's too much television, but they're taking some swings. I guess we're about to have some time to catch up on it, though, Johnny. Because of that writer strike. [00:36:40] Speaker A: Yeah, it won't be new content. What are we going to do? [00:36:45] Speaker B: What are we going to do? We're going to pay those writers more is what we're going to do better? We can take a stand and say that the Tod father is definitely on the side of the writers in this because he literally started image as a way to make sure that creators were fairly compensated for their work and were able to keep their control of their content. [00:37:10] Speaker A: And people that aren't on the side of the writers just like, get over it. What are you talking. I want my tv show. I don't care. It's like, shut up. [00:37:18] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't understand not advocating for people to have the ability to live off of the work they do. I just don't understand that. It doesn't make any sense. You just sit down all day and write shit. How hard can that be? Have you ever tried writing anything, you piece of playwright? [00:37:38] Speaker A: I can say it's hard. [00:37:39] Speaker B: And not only. [00:37:40] Speaker A: That's why it's spelled playwright. R-I-G-H-T because you have to ring it out. It's a hard act. That's true. And David Maimutz once said, writing is easy. All you have to do is go to a typewriter and bleed. [00:37:53] Speaker B: Very evocative. But not only do you have to come up with it, Johnny, but then you have to fucking fiddle with it as it goes along. And the things that you bleed out just might get thrown in the garbage because they don't fit, even though they're wonderful. And that's the hardest. [00:38:09] Speaker A: You have to edit it, make sure there's not a single fucking mistake. Like, it's crazy to try to write something. It's insane. [00:38:15] Speaker B: Yeah, it's insane. [00:38:16] Speaker A: If there's, like, a single mistake, people will be like, oh, my God, there's a typo. [00:38:23] Speaker B: It's some garbage. [00:38:24] Speaker A: This is not garbage, though. [00:38:25] Speaker B: This isn't some garbage. These guys are down in the catagoms looking for something. All their life they've been searching for something. Something. Bubba dub bubba dubba dab boop boop. Whatever. I don't know very many Foo fighter songs. Whatever. Don't at me. I like Dave Grohl. Don't like the Foo Fighters. We'll move on. Weird tangent. [00:38:45] Speaker A: So this implies these agents of heaven, because they talk about when they interviewed Mark Rosen. This implies that they gave him this armor and that the actual being of medieval is here. [00:38:55] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:38:56] Speaker A: Which is interesting because as we know him, he's a. [00:39:03] Speaker B: The. It's like they've got the Dr. Fate helmet in a jar. But they're able to have it animated instead of just being, I don't know, whatever. But whatever. [00:39:14] Speaker A: It says they gave him his suit of armor. [00:39:17] Speaker B: I don't know. [00:39:17] Speaker A: We'll see what happens. No, I mean, not whatever. Obviously something happens between here and. [00:39:23] Speaker B: They. Are they talking about Mark Rosen? Why they gave Mark Rosen the suit of armor, or why they gave this hellspawn a suit of armor? [00:39:31] Speaker A: This hellspawn his suit of armor. [00:39:32] Speaker B: Okay, well, I mean, it's because the hellspawns gets to mold their symbiotes into what is best for them. Have these guys not been reading spawn? Johnny? [00:39:43] Speaker A: No. [00:39:44] Speaker B: Agents of heavens are jerks. [00:39:46] Speaker A: He looks like the Hobbit. What's his fucking name? Martin Freeman. Is that his name? [00:39:53] Speaker B: Yeah. From Bilbo Baggins. [00:39:56] Speaker A: Bilbo. [00:39:57] Speaker B: Bilbo Baggins. [00:40:00] Speaker A: So he's like, basically trying to bust out of this place. [00:40:02] Speaker B: Yeah. The damage he's doing to this door is insane. Look at that. [00:40:08] Speaker A: Just like, boom, boom. He cracks the screen. [00:40:10] Speaker B: Yeah. It actually ends up looking like Paul Dano Riddler there. It's like a face. [00:40:20] Speaker A: He looks like mactonite. [00:40:22] Speaker B: Yeah, our favorite. His moon extends on either end of the panel. [00:40:30] Speaker A: Yeah, you just can't see it. So they talk to, like, a robot or something. [00:40:34] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:40:35] Speaker A: It has, like, robot looking text. [00:40:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Because they've got a secondary security system that they're putting into action. And it turns out that this fucking symbiote hates light, Johnny. It hates light. [00:40:53] Speaker A: And he says, guess they don't make demon babies like they used to. [00:40:57] Speaker B: Yeah. And so they just flood this whole chamber with light. And this reminds me of. There's a Grant Morrison story where they lock. I can't remember who they lock. I think they lock Superman in a room that is just empty and full of light. And then they introduce, like, one tiny little flaw on one of the walls. And then since that's the only thing Superman can focus on, because it's the only thing to focus on, he becomes absorbed in it and loses his fucking mind. That's how they drive him crazy, is one imperfection on a completely white wall. That kind of reminds me of this. It's very fun. Yeah. [00:41:42] Speaker A: It's just he's frozen there in the light in his cell, looking sad. [00:41:47] Speaker B: Yeah. And Al has neither gained nor lost any necroplasm, this issue, because he's at eight. [00:41:57] Speaker A: Mine says eight. [00:41:59] Speaker B: The trade paperback says seven. [00:42:01] Speaker A: Dude, what the fuck? [00:42:07] Speaker B: Who edited this? [00:42:08] Speaker A: Who do we believe? [00:42:11] Speaker B: Thomas Healy. Come on, man. [00:42:14] Speaker A: Goff, I thought, I guess, that the trade paperback was. Maybe they revised it for continuity error. [00:42:20] Speaker B: I don't know. But it's seven. Whoa. Weird. [00:42:24] Speaker A: Maybe we're from different universes. Maybe we're from. We've been split in the matrix. [00:42:29] Speaker B: Yeah. Does the actual issue have this little. [00:42:33] Speaker A: Backup story in it too with Nick's? [00:42:37] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay, awesome. So, yeah, we got another callback to 299. That's two callbacks to one issue in the same issue. [00:42:44] Speaker A: This is the Tom McFarland art. [00:42:46] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:42:48] Speaker A: Nick's and cognitive meeting up. [00:42:51] Speaker B: Yeah. It's a retelling of it. Shows what happened between Nick's letting cog in and cog killing her. But doesn't she call him something else in 299? Like she calls him Nick or something like that, doesn't she? [00:43:09] Speaker A: No, it's like Walter. [00:43:14] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:43:16] Speaker A: Not 299, though it was in the Nick's issue of spawn. It was in 338. [00:43:24] Speaker B: Man. Whack. [00:43:26] Speaker A: I'm confused. [00:43:27] Speaker B: I'm so confused. But you know what? It doesn't matter, because we got some. [00:43:30] Speaker A: Walter, I think, right? Or something like that. [00:43:33] Speaker B: She calls him something, but it's not cog. I was just too flabbergasted by it to try to figure out what it was last night. And I was like, what? [00:43:47] Speaker A: Yeah, she thought he wasn't cog. [00:43:50] Speaker B: I don't know. [00:43:51] Speaker A: I want to get up and go get that comic, because I know exactly where. [00:43:54] Speaker B: Which issue is it, Johnny? [00:43:56] Speaker A: It's in 338. It's in Nick's where she's talking about her backstory. [00:43:59] Speaker B: Okay, we got 338 here. [00:44:02] Speaker A: It should be in the first, like, five pages or so. When she's, like, going through her backstory when she dies. [00:44:08] Speaker B: Well, it says, when I died, it says c issue 185. I called Arthur. She calls him Arthur. [00:44:18] Speaker A: No, she doesn't. [00:44:20] Speaker B: It says, the man you knew as Arthur was actually Coliostro. I'm going to look at issue 299 here. [00:44:26] Speaker A: I think she just opens the door. [00:44:27] Speaker B: And saying, yeah, she just opens the door because she says that I've told you. And one other, in fact, he's here now, so got to go. And then she opens the door and she says, thanks for coming. [00:44:37] Speaker A: I don't know. It's a continuity stamp. It. What I'm imagining is that she at one point knew him as Arthur, and they just forgot about this one point where they called him Cog. Yeah, I'm imagining. [00:44:51] Speaker B: But. But, yeah. So anyway, we got this nice little story about what happens between the door opening and Nyx being dead. And it's just Nyx is basically handing over all of her information. Cog's just like humbad. Bam. Necroplasms are right in the forehead. Boom. That's a great little two page spread there. [00:45:13] Speaker A: Yeah, two page spread. Just. Boom. He just shoots a laser. [00:45:17] Speaker B: What a. [00:45:18] Speaker A: There's laser eyes. Is that a laser eye? It's got to be. [00:45:21] Speaker B: Yeah, I think it is. You see it spooling up in the previous page. Man. Tod father eyes are real good. When he does the little close ups on him. [00:45:33] Speaker A: So I have a spawning ground. [00:45:35] Speaker B: I do not. [00:45:37] Speaker A: And basically, that's where our opening quote came from. But we'll get to that. Because there's like two points of this spawning ground. He repinsts the five page backstory on she spawn on Jessica from 302. He says there were mistake made on his part. In conjunction with the printer. Which made the pages look too dark. He says you're unable to see the cool detail I put into the art. So I wanted to reprint them here. So he reprints it, and I looked at the other one. It is lighter, it is brighter. You can see a lot more of the detail. And the individual little marks that he did. But then he does the opening quote. Where he says, getting sassy. He might get sassy and put world record on every cover. Which he puts it on. Some they busted out occasionally. [00:46:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:46:22] Speaker A: And then he just says, the best is yet to come. [00:46:25] Speaker B: Yeah. So speaking of those reprints of the Jessica story. From issue 302. In the digital copy I had. It was in black and white. And then in the trade paperback, it is reprinted in color. Was it in black and white for you, Johnny, or was it in color for you? [00:46:42] Speaker A: It was in color both times for me. [00:46:44] Speaker B: Weird. So we got all kinds of experiences going on here. We got some black and white. We got some color. We got some. This is fun, finding the differences between all the presentations of the story. [00:46:55] Speaker A: What were the Berenstain bears called in your universe? [00:46:59] Speaker B: I think I remember with an a. But it was probably with an e. Because I'm terrible at spelling. [00:47:05] Speaker A: Berenstain is. You're in the baron scene universe, sir. That's why a different spawns. Because there's a glitch in the matrix. I swear. [00:47:12] Speaker B: I love that we have concocted a way to make us not be wrong. Even though we are a, forgetful and b, too lazy to actually look stuff up. [00:47:24] Speaker A: No, we look stuff up. We looked it up. [00:47:26] Speaker B: But the problem is that quality control around that time. Was of such low quality. That you can have both e and a Berenstain bears it's true. You could have. They exist in tandem. People literally have tapes that have them spelled both ways or books that have them spelled both ways. [00:47:45] Speaker A: So it's just one of those things. [00:47:47] Speaker B: But that doesn't mean that the world is fucking glitched yet, Johnny. You just want to live in a cyberpunk world where you can escape and be the savior. [00:47:58] Speaker A: So, yeah, it's reprinted. It is lighter. You can see a lot more of the details, which is cool because I looked at them side to side. See, I did research. [00:48:07] Speaker B: Yeah. Did more than I did. [00:48:10] Speaker A: And then the back page just has all the current collected editions that are available. Enemy estate, dark horror origins. [00:48:19] Speaker B: Nice. [00:48:20] Speaker A: Spawn kills. Everyone's in there. [00:48:22] Speaker B: Nice. So that's still a couple of years away from the aftermath trade paper act, which came out in June 2022. So, yeah, that's spawn 303. Real good. [00:48:34] Speaker A: Three to three. Three. Next up, we have another mainline spawn. [00:48:55] Speaker B: Yeah. So. [00:48:56] Speaker A: So, John 39. Two threes in this one too. [00:48:59] Speaker B: Speaking of threes, three times three is. Nine is divisible by three. So 339 is divisible by three. Oh, would that be 113? [00:49:14] Speaker A: I feel like I'm chasing after psalms three one seven here. I got the COVID by Simon beyond Simone Bianchi. I don't know. I guess that's how you say it. [00:49:26] Speaker B: Probably should have figured out how to say it before we started, but that's fine. So you got the Bianchi cover. Nice. [00:49:34] Speaker A: Yeah, I got the bianchi cover. [00:49:36] Speaker B: The bed bath, and Bianchi. [00:49:38] Speaker A: Well, I've got both, actually. But what do you have? What are you reading? [00:49:43] Speaker B: I have the keen cover. The keen. It's got spawn with an invisible orange. [00:49:53] Speaker A: That is surrounded by necroplasm, and he's about to punch the guy. [00:49:57] Speaker B: Yeah, we got the return of the invisible orange. He's definitely in the middle of a groove on that song. He's about to hit a real important point. [00:50:07] Speaker A: The Bianca cover is just, like, really textured. It's spawn crouch on top of some gargoyle snake, things that he's possibly, like, manipulating to be alive. [00:50:18] Speaker B: Yeah, that's awesome. I'm looking at it online right now. [00:50:21] Speaker A: And the texture on the cape and everything is just really good. I liked all his stuff. They did the covers for February of 2023, so this is one of those. They did all four of the A covers. That's cool. I know I mentioned before, but I like they've been doing that. Disconnecting covers that are going on right now. [00:50:41] Speaker B: Yeah, they're real good by Mark Brooks. I can't say Mark Brooks on the fucking instagram. Because every time I try to say it, it comes out as Marks Brooks. I can say Mark Brooks here, but not when it counts. [00:51:03] Speaker A: When you're on the camera, on you. [00:51:04] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:51:05] Speaker A: You can't do it. [00:51:06] Speaker B: Yeah, but, yeah. Spawn 339 if we open it up, Johnny, world record breaking comic. It looks like the Tod father is being sassy. [00:51:16] Speaker A: Kept his promise. He's being sassy. [00:51:18] Speaker B: Got this thing written by Rory McConville, additional script by Todd McFarland. Got Carlo Barberry doing art again. Very nice. J. David Ramos and Ivan Nunez on cover colors, tomo on lettering. Dude's keeping it going. I talked about the COVID artists and then previously. Can I read this one, Johnny? [00:51:42] Speaker A: Yeah, please. I'm tired of reading previously. [00:51:47] Speaker B: It would be better if this one were much shorter. So previously in Spawn, we see Nyx's journey from the afterlife to her rebirth as the scion of Greenworld. Meanwhile, sin continues his journey across. Mean, there's really no way to get it shorter than that, I think. [00:52:05] Speaker A: But it's so funny because so much more happened in that issue. And it's just such a small recap where in the other one, like, spawn basically beat up some guys. And it's a very detailed, very detailed recap. [00:52:18] Speaker B: It's great. We start with just our splash page is the earth with some green spots on it. And it says dead zones. I love the lettering that they use for dead zones there. Tomo's doing a good job, but yeah, it's explaining what the kind of like a history of the dead zones, real briefly, that they first created the critical role in the eternal war between heaven and hell. It's like they're the trains to the front lines that the soldiers have to take, I guess, is the best sort of wartime analogy we can come up with there. [00:52:56] Speaker A: You. [00:52:58] Speaker B: Then, you know, Spawn closed them all, and they're about to be reopened. Because Nick stole the secrets from Spawn's brain. She got sucked into his subconscious. Or not sucked into his subconscious. See, it willingly went there, and she stole some coordinates. And now all of the green zones. The green zones, the dead zones are about to be open permanently again. The next few issues are just kind of like the slow rollout of all the armies realizing, oh, hey, the portals are open again. [00:53:31] Speaker A: It's like, oh, wow. Seeing the other side and all the ramifications of the portals being closed, basically. [00:53:37] Speaker B: Then we go from that to haunt. Just pacing in this apartment, arguing with his brother. [00:53:46] Speaker A: Yeah, he's looking for a razor. He wants to shave his shovel off that apartment. He's just like, is there a razor in here? [00:53:52] Speaker B: In the middle of this discussion that the brothers Kilgore are having, Spawn basically. [00:53:59] Speaker A: Like, you should have stayed with Jack. I should have stayed with Downing and Nick's, because at least by this point, I've controlled some dead zones. They let me through. Spawn's not even let me through because he wants to get to heaven to find his cure for his haunting, his poisons, his heaven poisoned his suit. [00:54:14] Speaker B: Spawn just shadow blasts in behind them like he does while somebody's complaining about him. He just comes. [00:54:21] Speaker A: He always does. You got to not talk about spawns. He'll just ban him behind your back and be like, tap you on the shoulder. Blink, blink. [00:54:29] Speaker B: Although I guess it is always a good tactic. Like, if you need Spawn, just start badmouthing him. And he'll show up. [00:54:37] Speaker A: Yeah, start talking to shit, and he'll show up and be like, what did you say? What did you say? [00:54:40] Speaker B: This fucking ex military, man. What does he know about know? He's a fucking me. [00:54:48] Speaker A: Wait, are you telling me Al Simmons Swan is ex military? [00:54:51] Speaker B: No, I just made that up. I just made that up. Johnny, I was about to say. [00:54:56] Speaker A: Haven't heard that. Couldn't be. [00:54:58] Speaker B: Couldn't be. Now he knows nothing about tactics. [00:55:00] Speaker A: I don't know him. [00:55:03] Speaker B: And then spawns literally just being like, yeah, if you had stuck with Downing and Nick, you'd be in a worse position than you are now. And it's like, well, so let's just go to heaven. Come on. Let's just do it. Yeah, do it. [00:55:18] Speaker A: Take me to heaven. [00:55:19] Speaker B: And it snaps open a dead zone, and then we leave from them to go to hell with cataclys and sin writing. [00:55:29] Speaker A: Spawn's going to heaven because he wants to get a weapon that will defeat cog. That'll suck, basically. A weapon that destroys any necroplasm. [00:55:37] Speaker B: Yeah. And while they're there, if they have time, they'll get haunts the. And if you're good, we'll hit McDonald's on the way home. [00:55:52] Speaker A: Right, exactly. If you don't complain, you got to try on all those clothes. [00:55:57] Speaker B: We come in on cataclys and sin at the entropy fields, which are just inside the. Well, they're in the 9th realm, but they've just crossed over into the 8th realm, which is the entropy field. [00:56:09] Speaker A: So they're still pretty far out. [00:56:11] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, man. [00:56:12] Speaker A: They are far out of room, of hell. Not even yet. To the ice shrimp. [00:56:17] Speaker B: Yeah. No, they aren't. And sin is like, shit, this stuff doesn't look the same. And understandably, entropy fields wouldn't look the same every time you go through them, because that's the nature of entropy. Right. [00:56:32] Speaker A: Right. [00:56:33] Speaker B: Cataclys is given some family history and sin is. Huh. That's fucking weird. Why is your family from there instead of there? And they're like, dude, dude, you've been gone for a long time. So cataclys'mother and father were both sent as agents to Earth. His dad is still loyal to hell, but his mom has fully integrated into earth life. [00:56:59] Speaker A: Seems like a good plan. [00:57:00] Speaker B: And Sin himself says she's not the first to lose their way. It's all too easy to be seduced by that life. And he's like, let me tell you, a strawberry ripple. It gets its claws on you, dude. [00:57:13] Speaker A: Sometimes you just got to go burn out. Live an alley for a little bit. I get it. I get it, brother. [00:57:20] Speaker B: Yeah. They come up on the Tower of Wrath, which looks amazingly like the leaning tower of cheese from a goofy movie. [00:57:32] Speaker A: Also cool. But it also kind of looks like the tower from the Alan Moore issue. [00:57:39] Speaker B: Yeah, issue number eight. Yeah, that's a provocative of that. Probably intentionally. I would be surprised they weren't. [00:57:46] Speaker A: I think out of those two, they were probably going for the weening Tower of cheese. [00:57:50] Speaker B: Yeah. Because then they can have a hell being just like, shove it in their mouth like it's a snack, man. Fuck. I'd love the goofy movie. It's good. Can we take a quick aside to talk about animated movie and television cheese. Like, nothing has ever made me more hungry than the fucking cheese on the pizza in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles television show. That shit looks amazing. [00:58:23] Speaker A: This is stringy. [00:58:25] Speaker B: I want that, like, in real life. Irl, Irl animated cheese. Top tier cheese. [00:58:33] Speaker A: And rescuers down. Not rescuers. Chippendale rescue rangers. Monterey Jack. Always like that cheese. Wallace and Grommet. That's an iconic animation. [00:58:44] Speaker B: Oh, man, oh, man. What's wrong with Wensley Dale? I do like how Wallace literally finds basically his soulmate, except for she doesn't like cheese, and he's, uh. You've broken my heart, lady. We can't be together. Oh, no. [00:59:01] Speaker A: Not cheese. Can't stand the stuff. [00:59:04] Speaker B: Although I guess she technically does. Spoilers for what is that a close shave. A close shave. She is a sheep thief. [00:59:16] Speaker A: But it's because Preston's evil. Yeah, her dog's evil. [00:59:20] Speaker B: Yeah, but we do get Sean out of it. [00:59:23] Speaker A: Sean the sheep icon. [00:59:26] Speaker B: A funny joke based off the way that brits pronounced Sean as shorn. [00:59:32] Speaker A: Right? [00:59:33] Speaker B: He's a freshly shorn sheep. [00:59:37] Speaker A: He's really cute. [00:59:39] Speaker B: Man, I love Wallace and Gromit. It's so good. Ardman, we need an Ardman spawn series, stat. [00:59:47] Speaker A: I need to watch it. But they've speaking yet again of things I need to watch. It just came out, but they have a segment in Star wars visions. Two. [00:59:55] Speaker B: Oh, nice. I didn't know that. I got to get on that. [00:59:58] Speaker A: Yeah, it just came out Star wars day. [01:00:01] Speaker B: Like, Star wars day ten days ago. [01:00:04] Speaker A: Oh, boy. Time crawls on, you might say time. [01:00:09] Speaker B: It keeps on slipping into the future. [01:00:14] Speaker A: They slip right into this tower, and they got to fight these elden ring enemies here. [01:00:18] Speaker B: Yeah. Step no further. They're trying to do a Gandalf. You shall not pass. They just beat the heck out of him. [01:00:25] Speaker A: Little Clark is like, nah. And he just goes and stabs him in the neck and kills him instantly. [01:00:30] Speaker B: Yeah. And then we jump back to the brothers Kilgore and Al Simmons in the dead zone. [01:00:39] Speaker A: They're in that dark. Like, we went there back in those early issues. He took Eddie Redeemer there to talk to. [01:00:48] Speaker B: This is. This is where they're gooped, I guess. Oh, no, wait. Goop is they shadow block. [01:00:54] Speaker A: This is dead zone. This is dead zone. You got to travel, basically, you go into a dead zone, you get a little time in the dark shadow in between, and then I imagine you go on the other side. [01:01:04] Speaker B: Yeah. They talk about how since these were basically the train tracks for the guys, that hell and heaven powers don't work in dead zones. We already knew that shit. We knew that. But. So they talk about it, but Daniel Kilgore haunt powers work. And Spawn is like, who created your suit? And honestly, he doesn't really know Johnny. I like how it's the ghost brother who's just. Uh, guys, I need you to look at this. [01:01:43] Speaker A: There's a giant angel. [01:01:47] Speaker B: Yeah. Sandalfin, the herald of the magisterium. And our huge. Our right fielder, I do believe, is where he was. [01:01:58] Speaker A: Yep. Our right fielder for the heaven team of baseball. [01:02:02] Speaker B: Yeah. He and his brothers got caught in the dead zones when Al locked them and then slowly went insane. And he killed all his brothers because as we know, the minions of heaven and hell, when disconnected from their power sources, slowly go mad. [01:02:25] Speaker A: They just kill people. Yeah, they just go crazy and they just start killing people. [01:02:30] Speaker B: Yeah. I really like how this fight is like, it's written in the anti toddfather manner, because if the Todd Father had written this, all of the words would be describing what is happening. But I like how the narration is the story and there's just, like, a fight going on. You see them fight and you learn something else. It's like two trains of information going into your head at the same time. It's real fun. It was real fun. [01:03:00] Speaker A: I kind of feel bad for him. [01:03:02] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:03:03] Speaker A: Besides being, like, an evil soldier of heaven, he's probably, like a murderer. [01:03:07] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:03:08] Speaker A: It's like, oh, man, he's trapped in there. Who knows? Because if hell has been, like, 600 years, who knows how long it would seem like to him. [01:03:15] Speaker B: Yeah, I do like how the parts, like, points of the narration match up with the images until only sandolphin remains standing. And he's in that pose where he's got the chain around his neck, but he's about ready to strike. And then it says that isolation shattered the last of his sanity. And he's just, like, foaming at the mouth almost. It's wild. Wild. Carlo Barberiat is great. [01:03:46] Speaker A: I think that he doesn't speak as telling is he just, like, silently attacks them. He's like an animal. [01:03:51] Speaker B: Yeah. And then haunt just stabs him right through the chest with his big old saber hand that he's able to manipulate. And then they just step out of the portal. [01:04:09] Speaker A: It's like if you went to, like, a train station and the train station just had to kill this giant hulking man, and then you're like, okay, now on to the trip. [01:04:17] Speaker B: Now I can exit the subterranean station, and it's all bright up outside, and it's heaven. [01:04:25] Speaker A: And it reminds me of some of that, again, Alan Moore issue. [01:04:32] Speaker B: And Daniel obviously wasn't seminary. And he's like, this isn't how I thought it would be. Oh, I guess we forgot that before they go on the trip, Al was like, now, I know you have an idea of what heaven looks like and what God is like and what the whole thing is about, but let me tell you, that's not the way it's so there. [01:04:58] Speaker A: Another earlier thing I wrote down that I forgot to mention was I loved it. Like, who's the ghost? Kill Gore. That's not Daniel. That's Trent or something. Kurt. Sorry, Trent. One thing I wrote down that I like is that Kurt, he says, like, if I go to heaven while I get trapped there because he's a ghost, he's like, am I getting trapped in heaven? [01:05:20] Speaker B: Yeah. And that's what precipitates Al's being like. [01:05:23] Speaker A: No, it's not like that. It's not like that. [01:05:26] Speaker B: Let me tell you a thing. And then they're just standing there looking at heaven, and they get, I love the shadow of an angel. Just slowly creeps across them. [01:05:36] Speaker A: Almost looks like a clock. [01:05:37] Speaker B: Yeah. And then we get this nice splash page where it's just a phalanx of angels, and the leader is being like, you degrade yourself by partnering with a haunt. The hell symbiotes is all very organic and kind of nasty, and the uniform of heaven is clean and mechanical and high modernism. Metropolis. Clean lines. [01:06:09] Speaker A: Yeah, no, I know what you're saying. Yeah, absolutely. We got Barbados here in hell. He looks like Dr. [01:06:14] Speaker B: Strange talking to sin, and sin's like, why'd these guys stop us? And Barbados is like, sorry about that. [01:06:22] Speaker A: It's been quite a length of time. Probably, like, over 500 years. [01:06:27] Speaker B: You've been gone for 500 years? Yeah, they don't remember. [01:06:31] Speaker A: Hopefully send. Dolphin wasn't trapped in between for 500 years. [01:06:34] Speaker B: Well, no, because he only got trapped in when. Because sin's been gone for thousands of years. [01:06:42] Speaker A: No, but he's talking about since the dead zones closed. [01:06:45] Speaker B: Oh, since the dead zones closed? I thought it was since sin was last in hell. [01:06:48] Speaker A: No, yeah, but he's been in hell. He was on the throne for a little bit after Melbourne. [01:06:54] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Fuck. Shit. That's stuff that I forgot about. Oh, man. [01:06:57] Speaker A: No, it's been like. Because he's like, times are speeding up here. It's since the dead seal. [01:07:01] Speaker B: Oh, man, I got to get caught up on all this backlog, Johnny. I need my favorite spawn podcast to, you know, hurry up with this shit. [01:07:12] Speaker A: Yeah, it's just basically, it's that thing where, like, if you go to the planet, the time moves differently in space, and you come back and it's been. [01:07:19] Speaker B: 20 years, but it's been 500 until Barbitos is giving sin the lay of the land as it is right now, and then tells us that if Sin wants to become the ruler of hell, he has to defeat the current ruler of hell, who is, bam. Cataclysm. And we get a nice end there. [01:07:44] Speaker A: Reveal. [01:07:45] Speaker B: Yeah, we get a reveal of Hell's current ruler. [01:07:48] Speaker A: And he killed some fleabiacs. [01:07:51] Speaker B: Yeah, he killed some fleabiacs, and he's covered in goop, and he's a badass looking dude. I remember when this issue came out. The Todd father was literally very excited about this issue and was showing images of this last page with his hands, over 75% of it, and he's like, look at how cool this is going to be. I can't spoil it for you, but look at how cool. This shit's going to be. It was hilarious. [01:08:17] Speaker A: Pretty awesome. Spawn's got way more power than he did back in 303. Oh, yeah. [01:08:24] Speaker B: Hella more power. 1427. [01:08:27] Speaker A: Pretty good. [01:08:29] Speaker B: Yeah, we got some spawning grounds. We got some spawning grounds. We got a guy who's. His name is Adam. [01:08:35] Speaker A: Talking about Adam a. Aronson. [01:08:38] Speaker B: Adam a. He submitted some artwork. It's very nice artwork. He loves something about a ghostwriter drawing that the Todd father did on his. You know, if you aren't watching some of those, if you aren't watching the Todd father tutorials, you don't have to know how to draw a goddamn thing. They are very enjoyable because it's fun to listen to the Todd father, because the Todd father is always full of some knowledge for you. And just to see him so effortlessly lay stuff down, it's real fun. That's one of the best parts of going to conventions, is going and meeting creators and watching them do stuff in real time. It's like, holy fucking shit. That is awesome. And sometimes the guys will. The artists will actually try new things. They'll be like, I want to do something wacky. Like, guys who always work in markers will sometimes they'll be like, we're going to do some fucking watercolors at this convention. And you could just watch them fuck up. Watercolors. But they're still doing amazing job. It's great. They're like, yeah, this is some bullshit. And you're like, that's not bullshit. That is amazing. [01:10:00] Speaker A: That's awesome. I could never do that, man. Yeah, I could never do this. This is awesome stuff. [01:10:06] Speaker B: Adam great. [01:10:07] Speaker A: Also wants to thank him for all of his cool stuff. King spawn's his favorite. He loves the storyline, the artwork. [01:10:15] Speaker B: Adam has great taste. And then we got James B. So we got a and then b. I find that hilarious. Talking about, been reading spawn for 20 years, and he's like, well, since I guess characters are coming back now, what about Angela? [01:10:29] Speaker A: Yeah, he also kind of negs him a little bit because he goes, as all things has slowed at times. [01:10:41] Speaker B: Oh, man. But our buddy Thomas Healy doesn't drop a beat. And he's like, yeah, man, it's been going for a while, so, I mean, it has dropped in places, but, man, look at how it's picking up. [01:10:51] Speaker A: It's like, look, we like to keep people dead, but someone has a compelling reason to bring them back. We'll let them do it. [01:10:56] Speaker B: We are currently seeing some of the best spawn characters comics since the beginning. And as far as Angela, don't hold your breath. [01:11:05] Speaker A: Don't hold your breath for Angela. Let Angela go. [01:11:08] Speaker B: Yeah, just. Just breathe. [01:11:13] Speaker A: Uh, she's gone. [01:11:15] Speaker B: She's gone with the angels, I guess. She is an angel. [01:11:19] Speaker A: She's a marvel. Snap, for Christ's sake, guys, dizzy's got her in their cage. [01:11:28] Speaker B: Yeah. And that's spawn 339, Johnny. [01:11:31] Speaker A: Pretty great. [01:11:32] Speaker B: Yeah, pretty great. I think now we got to rate these puppies. [01:11:37] Speaker A: Johnny, it's time to rate the puppies. Take that, Brian. You're out of a job. You hear that song I just composed? [01:11:48] Speaker B: They're good boys. They're good boys, Johnny. [01:11:51] Speaker A: They're good boys. They're pretty good boys. They're good issues. So 303 was up first on the docket. And I'm going to give it four lasers to the face. [01:12:04] Speaker B: Four lasers to the face. Oh, man. [01:12:06] Speaker A: Because it's four laser blasts. I mean, it's just a fun issue. It's a fun fight. I like Jessica a lot, so that's why I give it that high. Because it is a little, just kind of techno babble. Clunky on the plot, but the Jessica stuff's cool. I like seeing Jessica. [01:12:21] Speaker B: So there you go. [01:12:23] Speaker A: Four laser blasts to Nick's forehead. [01:12:25] Speaker B: That's a good score. It's a good it. I'm going to give it three demon babies. A, because we need another three in this. B. [01:12:36] Speaker A: Yes. There you go. [01:12:38] Speaker B: B, because as far as issues go, it's a little thin. We need to just get there. We just need to get there. So we're ramping up. We're going. We're literally in the middle of this mini arc, in a larger arc. So we're just like middle, middle. We just got to move it on, moving the story along. So it's not a great much happens, but it's all important. But it doesn't just like it's setting up so that way we can get some cool shit happening. [01:13:16] Speaker A: Yeah. In my heart, I feel it's a three. But I give it one extra point because it has a lot of Jessica and she's one of my favorites. [01:13:22] Speaker B: So that's why those two pages of medieval we get are fantastic. I love seeing Jason Sean Alexander's version of medieval. He looks so badass, but yeah, so I liked it, but it's not mind blowing. So I'll give it a three. Three demon babies. What about spawn 339 Johnny, what are you going to give spawn 339 spawn. [01:13:46] Speaker A: 339 we have two journeys. One through heaven, one through hell, two sides of a coin. [01:13:51] Speaker B: I do really love the parallel trips that we've got through this little segment here because it bounces back. But they're like equivalent journeys in opposite directions and they each are hitting the same beats. It's great. [01:14:08] Speaker A: I'm going to give it 3.5 hell towers. It's a good start to this kind of start or these treks that have been going on through a few issues, but it's just a start. Doesn't have Jessica in it. That's a point off .5 off. I don't really know what to say. It's kind of a plot of your issue. It's setting up some stuff for some fun action with all these characters. But it wasn't like mind blowing to me or anything. [01:14:39] Speaker B: Yeah, I agree with that. I agree with that. I will give it 3.5 sparks of a road flare. So I guess 3.5 road flares that Al Simmons is carrying through the dead zone. Very much like 303. It is a ramp up middle. [01:15:00] Speaker A: It has a three in it as well. That's why it has two threes in it. That's why it's also like 303. Yeah, it's a ramp up. It's a set up to like them. Journey. I like the Sendolphin little story. That's kind of cool to throw that in there. You don't have to have that, but it's just nice texture, flavor to the world. [01:15:16] Speaker B: Yeah, I'll give it a 305 instead of a three like I did for 303. Simply because now I have to couch this. This is not a slight on the Todd father, Johnny, but okay. Rory McConville is a better writer. That increase in the quality of writing bumps it up to me. [01:15:42] Speaker A: Yeah, it was very noticeable. [01:15:44] Speaker B: Yeah. Holy shit. Rory McConville is doing a great job on this, Johnny. It's fun to. It's fun to. I mean, the Tod father writes well. He's a good writer. But it's fun to see sort of the different approaches that they take where, know, high excitement. Just this fun story. Yeah. And Rory McConville is a little more measured, a little more. Trying to make it a little more, for lack of a better phrase, a little more english student or english major where he's trying to make it a. [01:16:27] Speaker A: Little more technical, a little more fancy. [01:16:30] Speaker B: Yeah, a little more fancy. It is a little more fancy. [01:16:33] Speaker A: No, it's cool. I like the parallels with them in heaven and them in hell. And it's fun, like seeing this journey and it's been fun where it's been going. Well, David, I mentioned at the beginning of the episode that we had a special guest. [01:16:45] Speaker B: Yes. And I spoiled that. It is of the male persuasion, didn't I? [01:16:49] Speaker A: Yes, because it's in the name. So, as you guys know, if you listened, a couple weeks ago, I had a couple beers after work and ordered the Dark Knight trilogy. McFarland figures. And we're not doing spawnnessy baseball. We decided we'd be getting through some of these figures because I got more spawn figures coming, so I got to keep the backlog in check. Oh, God. At least only release, like, one or two waves of spawn figures a year. [01:17:19] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:17:20] Speaker A: Long way of saying, I have the three others to open. I've opened scarecrow, and for this issue, I thought, thematically, because we're doing a double mainline spawn, I would open Batman. It's Batman. [01:17:34] Speaker B: Batman. [01:17:35] Speaker A: It's Christian Bale Batman. I'm opening the Batman from the Dark Knight trilogy. [01:17:40] Speaker B: And that makes this a Todd's toy talk. My. My favorite joke about the Christian Bale Batman voice is there was a thing that Sesame street did in, like, 2012 that they were spoofing the rise of the superhero movies. Because it's hard to think that just, like, a decade ago, there weren't so many superhero movies, but they have cookie monster. Cookie monster is Batman. And he says, cookie. Cookie monster. It's great. Okay. Into the story. [01:18:32] Speaker A: Busting out my pocket knife here to get it open. Cut the little plastic. So it's in the classic DC multiverse packaging. Has the Dark Knight trilogy. Oh, another three. The trilogy. [01:18:47] Speaker B: Oh, this is just the episode of threes, Johnny. [01:18:50] Speaker A: Episode of threes. That's the hook. If you're into three, you're going to love this episode. [01:18:55] Speaker B: We're going to do a rule of threes here in a minute. [01:18:57] Speaker A: What is the rule of threes? [01:18:59] Speaker B: Something about you're supposed to have three jokes. Like, three is a balance. Like, there are certain. [01:19:07] Speaker A: Okay. [01:19:08] Speaker B: Like, two jokes in a row isn't enough or something like that. It's a balance issue. [01:19:14] Speaker A: So I'm going to pop it open here. [01:19:17] Speaker B: That sounds so good, Johnny. Every time. [01:19:19] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Pulling out Batman. Oh, my God. So it's got a trading card. [01:19:27] Speaker B: Oh, nice. [01:19:27] Speaker A: That is a. I remember this is one of the teaser posters for the Dark Knight rises is what they use. It's Batman standing on the street. All right, let me cut these little guys. Ooh, he's got a gun. I'm just cutting out all the pieces here. [01:19:49] Speaker B: Oh, does he have a grappling hook gun? [01:19:51] Speaker A: He has a grappling hook gun. Not a gun gun. [01:19:53] Speaker B: Nice. That's how he got away with it. [01:19:55] Speaker A: That's how he got away with it. [01:19:56] Speaker B: It's a grappling gun about to say, they put out that earth two Batman, which is Thomas Wayne, just around the time that they enforced the no rule or no gun rule, and literally Thomas Wayne, Batman in earth two, uses guns. [01:20:15] Speaker A: Nice. Oh, man, this is a great figure. Bum bum bum bum bum. Oh, wrong Batman theme. [01:20:27] Speaker B: Bum bum bum bum. [01:20:30] Speaker A: The dark Knight theme is hard to. [01:20:32] Speaker B: Yeah, Hans Zimmer's got a lot of that. You got to include the super low end Johnny. [01:20:41] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, man, this is awesome. He's, like, super detailed. It looks like Christian Bale. [01:20:46] Speaker B: Nice. [01:20:47] Speaker A: Like he's about to go. Carmine Falcone. He looks like he's about to go. You're like me. I like to rattle the cages. So this looks like the tactical armor. This is his armor costume from the dark knight, specifically. [01:21:06] Speaker B: Nice. [01:21:08] Speaker A: I believe because Batman begins, it's a little more like Batman y. Yeah. [01:21:14] Speaker B: It gets a little armory er as the series goes. [01:21:19] Speaker A: A little more tactical. Yeah, you got that Christopher Nolan realism, baby. [01:21:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:21:24] Speaker A: He also comes with three batarangs, which is pretty cool. Let me pop out one of these batarangs for you. You got a batarang, but. Batarang, pretty cool. [01:21:36] Speaker B: Batter. [01:21:39] Speaker A: Grappling gun. Pretty cool. But the coolest thing he comes with is Bane's legs. [01:21:44] Speaker B: Legs. Oh, man. We got arms now. We got legs. [01:21:48] Speaker A: We got arms and legs. This is great. Look at this. Look at these legs. Let me bust these legs out. [01:21:54] Speaker B: You can do an old fashioned Mr. Potato head with them where you literally just take a potato and put the legs and the arms in, draw a face. [01:22:04] Speaker A: That would be. Go. Maybe I'll do that. Oh, here we are. Oh, yep, there's some legs. [01:22:11] Speaker B: Nice. [01:22:12] Speaker A: Bane's going to be a tall motherfucker. Okay, well, I got Bane's legs. [01:22:16] Speaker B: I mean, he is a tall motherfucker. Isn't Tom Hardy a little taller than Christian Bale, or did they just shoot it that way? Because I actually think Tom Hardy is smaller than you think he is. [01:22:28] Speaker A: Yeah, I think so, too. I don't know, but, yeah, Bane always towers over him. Pretty cool. [01:22:34] Speaker B: Nice. [01:22:34] Speaker A: Looks like it's basically two legs with, like, knee pads and cargo pockets. [01:22:40] Speaker B: Cargo pockets. What do the boots look like, Johnny? Are those boots good? [01:22:44] Speaker A: Boots are good. It's got, like, these double straps on them. Good looking boots. A lot of articulation. [01:22:50] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:22:50] Speaker A: Oh, sweet. I'm so glad I get this Batman open. He's been taunting me for months, this grappling hook in there. [01:22:57] Speaker B: Nice. [01:22:58] Speaker A: Where are the drugs? [01:23:00] Speaker B: Where is she? [01:23:01] Speaker A: Where is she? We had a guy that we knew. I won't say his name because I don't want to incriminate him or anything. Who was a guy we knew in college who was like, he was that guy that loved weed, but never had weed, but he would always be like, he knew people we knew had weed, so he'd always be, hey, you guys got weed? Weed, weed. So we used to start calling it Batman because the part in Batman begins where he goes, where are the drugs? [01:23:28] Speaker B: I knew a couple of people like that in a. [01:23:32] Speaker A: It's a thing. [01:23:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:23:34] Speaker A: It's like, why can't you just figure it out? Just figure. It's easy. [01:23:37] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, somehow always ended up. Everybody enjoyed their company except for. They were like, God damn it. They're asking us for stuff again. And it's not that they just didn't procure it themselves. It's that they never offered anything in return. They just wanted. [01:23:55] Speaker A: Right? [01:23:56] Speaker B: Like, hey, can you hook me up? And it's like. [01:23:58] Speaker A: And they basically expected it. [01:24:00] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, you can at least barter something. You can at least be like, I'll drive us to McDonald's, man. [01:24:06] Speaker A: Exactly. [01:24:07] Speaker B: Lots of McDonald's talk on this episode. I gotta. [01:24:11] Speaker A: I had McDonald's breakfast the other. [01:24:14] Speaker B: Oh, man, it's so hard to beat a sausage biscuit. [01:24:17] Speaker A: It's pretty good. [01:24:18] Speaker B: So good. [01:24:19] Speaker A: Only thing beats it is maybe Egg McMuffin. You know what? [01:24:23] Speaker B: It's hard to beat, Johnny. Also hard to beat is the spawn community that exists over on instagram. It's a great community full of cool people that we like to hang out with who do cool shit. And almost all of it is spawn. And we like to shout out some of our friends because we like them. We want you to like them. They should like you. This week are the friends that we want to share with you is at Spawn underscore nimrod. That's at Spawn underscore nimrod. They literally just say they collect spawn stuff. It's like, hell, yeah. They got action figures. They do that thing where they're like, hey, man, look at all these toys that are available at my local target. It's very nice. They 3d printed a crystal green spawn figurine or statue. Looks awesome. So good. They had somebody custom make them a rug as the spawn logo, the little emblem. It's very cool. Very cool. They're a great follow, and we like them, and you should like them too. Very cool. [01:25:47] Speaker A: Sorry, I was just playing my Batman figure. That whole. [01:25:50] Speaker B: No, that's cool. That's why we got two hosts. So that way you don't have to be like, oh, shit, I was supposed to do something. Also hard to beat is Brian, who does our music. T Brian Boiler. He's over there. He's good. We're over there. Regarding spawn pod on Instagram, we're going to share. Johnny's going to share his pictures of his toys. He's probably going to Batman for you a little bit. Batman. Batman. He's going to show you where she is. No, it's fun. We do a lot of fun stuff over there. Come say hi. We got questions, comments, concerns. You want to interact with the Instagram community, but don't want to be on Instagram yourself. Let us post it for you. We'll say, hey, this is our budy sent us some stuff regarding [email protected]. We like to hear from you. [01:26:40] Speaker A: Every week I like to ask a question, a prompt. No one's ever answered one yet, so hopefully you fuckers do eventually. I'm kidding. I won't say that. [01:26:50] Speaker B: We got to start making a lot more errors. So that way people give us. [01:26:54] Speaker A: Correct us. [01:26:57] Speaker B: I might do something nefarious for even a. Well, actually, at this point. So. [01:27:03] Speaker A: Okay. If we get errors, we'll get people. Okay, it's episode of threes. We did. 303 339. The Dark Knight trilogy toy 40 episode. [01:27:15] Speaker B: 43 of the podcast. [01:27:16] Speaker A: Episode 43 of the podcast. So I want to ask, what is your favorite third in a series? It can be any series. So, like, for example, Star wars. The third one would be the Empire strikes back. And for example, Harry Potter. The third one would be the chamber of Secrets. [01:27:35] Speaker B: But what makes the Empire strikes back the third in the series? It's the middle, David. [01:27:40] Speaker A: I'm making mistakes so people. Correct. [01:27:43] Speaker B: I felt right. See, that's how easy it is for you to send us a fucking email, right? [01:27:48] Speaker A: See? [01:27:48] Speaker B: Correctly. [01:27:49] Speaker A: Is your favorite third in the series. Evil dead two. [01:27:53] Speaker B: Yes. [01:27:54] Speaker A: No, I'm kidding. But what is your favorite third in a series? Could be a movie, could be book series. I mean, some of mine that come to mind are toy story three. I really enjoy. [01:28:06] Speaker B: That's a good one. That's it. [01:28:08] Speaker A: That's the only one I got. Oh, good. The bad and the ugly. That's a third of a trilogy. [01:28:11] Speaker B: That's a third of a trilogy. I did not know it was a third of a. Is that the fistful? [01:28:17] Speaker A: Yeah, man with no name trilogy, it's called, but yeah, fistful of dollars. Few dollars more. Good, the bad and the ugly. [01:28:22] Speaker B: Oh, man, what is that? The wasteland is the third. [01:28:26] Speaker A: Oh, that's a great one. That's probably possibly the best dark tower book. It's up there for sure. [01:28:31] Speaker B: Oh, man. I always get the fact that the second one is called the drawing of the three. It's like, wait, hold on a second. Which one's the third book? No, the wasteland is fucking great. [01:28:40] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [01:28:41] Speaker B: The three have been drawn, but no. Yeah, let us know. Johnny will read your response on air. He made a promise, a solemn. [01:28:51] Speaker A: Any email we get, I'm going to read on air. Yeah, let's go. [01:28:55] Speaker B: Let's do it. Let's do it. So, Johnny, in about a week, you want to do this again? You want to do this again in about a week? [01:29:03] Speaker A: Yeah, I think so. Let's do some spawn. [01:29:05] Speaker B: You want to do some spawn? Hell, yeah. Hell, yeah. Well, I got a couple of books we can read for next. Whoo. It's going to be one of our favorite pairings, Johnny. It's going to be one of our favorite pairings. [01:29:16] Speaker A: So we're going to read, oh, like a fine wine and a cheese. [01:29:19] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:29:19] Speaker A: From a cartoon. [01:29:23] Speaker B: Man, what wine would go best with a cartoon cheese? [01:29:26] Speaker A: Strawberry ripple. [01:29:28] Speaker B: Strawberry ripple, I'm trying to think of. Because there's some animated wine that makes it just, like, look thick and, man, I want a thick wine. Thick wine looks. [01:29:36] Speaker A: Yeah, animated wine always was, like, really thick and red. [01:29:39] Speaker B: I like when they animate it. So that way there's, like, the glass, like, you can see the edge of the glass, and there's just, like, a u of wine in there. I like the way that looks. But anyway, so we'll be reading two issues from Spawn's universe. Our classic will be king Spawn number eight, and our contemporary will be gunslinger spawn number 18. So, hell, yeah, we get to do king Spawn gunslinger again. [01:30:05] Speaker A: It's all Ksgspawn gunslinger. [01:30:09] Speaker B: We got that eight. One eight going. [01:30:11] Speaker A: 81818. The grateful eight. Because we're grateful for spawn. [01:30:16] Speaker B: Yeah. And that's also a western. And gunslinger. Spawn is western. [01:30:20] Speaker A: No, I said grateful. [01:30:22] Speaker B: Yeah. Shut up. I'm dumb. Correct us by sending. [01:30:27] Speaker A: That'd be hilarious. Yeah. Quentin Tarantino's the grateful eight, people very thankful for their lives. That sounds like a tarantino. [01:30:37] Speaker B: He would somehow make it very weird. I would watch that. I'd watch that. So, yeah, those are two great issues that we're going to read next episode, and it'll be great read with us. And here are our hot takes on it. [01:30:54] Speaker A: Read some spawn. [01:30:55] Speaker B: Read some spawn. And so Johnny I think that just leads me to say, may the scorched be with you. [01:31:03] Speaker A: And also with you, David. [01:31:05] Speaker B: Hell, yeah. [01:31:06] Speaker A: Hell, yeah. [01:31:07] Speaker B: Hell, yeah. [01:31:09] Speaker A: What's that? Batman? Oh, he wants to know where she. [01:31:17] Speaker B: Over. [01:31:18] Speaker A: Ah, now he just yelled, where are the drugs? At me. [01:31:22] Speaker B: Does he want her? Does he want the drugs, Batman? [01:31:26] Speaker A: Do you want her? Do you want the drugs? He just said he likes to rattle the cage. You're just spouting off dark knight trilogy quotes of you, Batman. I'm not putting up with rattle your own cage. I'm going to lock you in there with scarecrow. [01:31:39] Speaker B: You get some pocket, get sand in your facebook.
