[00:00:00] Speaker A: And when I picked up a Spawn comic for the first time, a new world opened up for me. I had never seen anything so cool, and I can say that Spawn and all the fantastic artists that have worked on the comics over the years have had a huge influence on my style. For me, Spawn was never a classic superhero, and I tried to reflect in my creations what the Spawn universe looks like through my eyes. Bjorn barons april 2021. Good evening and welcome to the Malbolge. This is regarding Spawn, the world's best spawn podcast. I'm your co host, John Fisher. [00:01:07] Speaker B: And I'm your co host, David Williams. [00:01:10] Speaker C: And Johnny, I don't know if you've been following along in the Star Trek universe, but lower decks is amazing, and I think we need to rebrand ourselves into a lower decks fan cast. [00:01:26] Speaker A: Well, it'll just be you talking to yourself, because I've never seen it. [00:01:30] Speaker C: Guess what? Guess what? I'm perfectly happy just talking away by myself. Hey, David, did you see the new episode yesterday? Well, yes, I did. [00:01:39] Speaker A: No. [00:01:40] Speaker C: Boy, oh, boy. [00:01:42] Speaker B: There's just something know. You've got your classic everything big picture. [00:01:49] Speaker C: And then you just focus in on the menial tasks that occur within a fantasy universe, and I love that shit. Like damage control for Marvel Universe. [00:01:59] Speaker B: Fucking Quasi. [00:02:01] Speaker C: The hunchback that used to live in Batman's cave and would do repairs for him on all his automobiles. Fucking love. [00:02:08] Speaker A: Is that a thing? [00:02:09] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:02:10] Speaker C: In the mid 90s, there was a hunchback that secretly lived in the Bat cave. Wow. [00:02:20] Speaker A: Good old Quasi. [00:02:22] Speaker C: Old Quasi. I don't know if Quasi was his name. [00:02:24] Speaker B: I'll look it up here real quick. Oh, wow. [00:02:27] Speaker A: Sorry, I don't mean to label a hunchback. Quasi vodo. [00:02:31] Speaker B: I mean, Johnny, we're talking comics, so they're not very subtle. That's true. Oh, Harold allnut is his. [00:02:44] Speaker A: Oh, okay. Like nuts and bolts. [00:02:48] Speaker B: Nuts and bolts. Harold all nut. Oh, man. [00:02:53] Speaker C: The all nut. [00:02:54] Speaker B: Sounds like some kind of a mythical. [00:02:57] Speaker C: Thing that you have to go get. [00:02:59] Speaker A: We must get the all nut. [00:03:00] Speaker C: The All Nut to plant the all tree for creation to continue. Oh, that's what I meant to talk about, Johnny. I didn't mean to talk about Star Trek. I meant to talk about the new. [00:03:09] Speaker B: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. [00:03:11] Speaker A: No, you meant to talk about Spawn. [00:03:13] Speaker B: Oh, did I? Oh, I don't know. [00:03:15] Speaker A: How was the Ninja Turtles movie? [00:03:16] Speaker B: Oh, the Ninja Turtles movie was great. [00:03:19] Speaker A: I heard it was really good. [00:03:20] Speaker B: It's real good. It's real good. It's a real fun time. You know what else is a real fun time, Johnny? Spawn chain gang park four. Oh, God. [00:03:29] Speaker A: Is that what it says online? [00:03:30] Speaker C: That's what it says. That's what it says online again. [00:03:33] Speaker A: Hey, they do use a chain in this one. [00:03:36] Speaker B: Yeah, they do. [00:03:36] Speaker A: Pretty big. There's a big chain. [00:03:38] Speaker C: They reference it directly, as a matter of fact. [00:03:42] Speaker A: Yeah. So welcome to regarding Spawn. [00:03:47] Speaker B: A long way of saying we're covering. [00:03:49] Speaker A: Two issues from Spawn's Universe as we want to do here, a more classic and a more modern. Currently we are working through that 300 leading up to where we are now. So from that kind of wasn't a reboot, but it was a rebranding or like a repush of Spawn from that 300 on. It was kind of like a new push, I feel like. [00:04:17] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:04:18] Speaker A: And kind of like gave it that push to build into the Spawn's universe. So we're covering that section right now. And that is to say we are covering 317, which according to the Image website is Chang Gang part four. Part four, which it's not. [00:04:33] Speaker B: Definitely not. Yeah, because it's not. [00:04:37] Speaker A: It's been Omega spawn. It's been island not island of Omega. [00:04:42] Speaker B: Cult of Omega. [00:04:43] Speaker C: It'll do that to you, Johnny. [00:04:45] Speaker A: I'm assuming this is still the cult of Omega because we are in Omega's Island still. So hopefully this is still the cult. [00:04:52] Speaker C: I don't know because there's a call out to it at the beginning of the book, so I don't know, Johnny. [00:05:00] Speaker B: I really don't know. [00:05:03] Speaker A: That's why we're here, to try to suss this out. [00:05:05] Speaker C: But what I do know is that we're working our way to that handshake where Spawn leaves The Todd father's sleeve and crawls up Rory McConville's sleeve and then Rory McConville gets infected with the need to write Spawn. [00:05:19] Speaker B: So it's going to be fun to see that transition actually happened since we. [00:05:26] Speaker C: Jumped on the band after Rory McConville. [00:05:28] Speaker B: Had already taken over. Yeah, I'm excited for it. [00:05:34] Speaker A: Nothing against The Todd father here, but this is getting pretty todfathery. [00:05:42] Speaker B: Just a teeny bit. [00:05:43] Speaker C: Just a teeny little know the Toddfather. [00:05:48] Speaker B: Is best like sprinkled on the top. You don't want it too much mixed into the base flavor because then it's not as special. [00:05:57] Speaker A: I think he's better suited for gunslinger just with the manic energy of that. [00:06:02] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:04] Speaker A: And I like the more deliberate pacing of it's. [00:06:09] Speaker C: Roy McConville has it grander. Like the story is grand but the. [00:06:15] Speaker B: Writing is pulled back, whereas The Todd. [00:06:17] Speaker C: Father'S writing is grand and the story's. [00:06:19] Speaker B: Maybe a little pulled know, give The. [00:06:24] Speaker C: Todd Father a light premise and he. [00:06:26] Speaker B: Can do almost no wrong. [00:06:30] Speaker C: Make him have to stick to a very plotty subject and oh man, he. [00:06:33] Speaker B: Gets lost in the weeds a little bit. A little bit. Just a little bit. [00:06:37] Speaker A: But that's why we're here, to chop down these weeds and figure out what's going on here. [00:06:42] Speaker C: Johnny you could say we're bush whacking through Spawn. [00:06:46] Speaker A: We're bush whacking through spawn. [00:06:47] Speaker C: We got it. [00:06:48] Speaker A: And spawn's Universe. And our second issue is Scorched number 20. [00:06:52] Speaker C: I can't believe wait, we really didn't say Scorched number 20 was the second book yet. [00:06:58] Speaker B: Oh, no. [00:06:59] Speaker C: Boy, oh boy. [00:07:03] Speaker B: It's going to be a long one. Johnny. It better not be. [00:07:06] Speaker A: I got a heart out. We got to get going. So first up on 317, we always like to start off by talking about these covers here and what issue or not issue. What issue are delivery device of Spawn are you using, David? [00:07:25] Speaker C: I am once again using Hoopla, and I have the digital edition that has the main cover on the front and. [00:07:33] Speaker B: Then all of the back matter and all the rest of the covers just. [00:07:38] Speaker C: Sort of tacked onto the end. [00:07:39] Speaker B: So that's very exciting. But the image that comes up as. [00:07:44] Speaker C: Soon as I open the issue on the Hoopla app is this Bjorn Barron's cover. [00:07:48] Speaker B: And it is mighty nice. Oh, it's awesome. [00:07:54] Speaker C: It might actually be the best part. [00:07:56] Speaker B: Of the whole issue. Johnny I think so. [00:07:58] Speaker A: And he gets a little, like I love his little demon minions on this. [00:08:02] Speaker B: Yeah. I like how when you go to the like, he's got, like, a couple of rendering models for those little, um. [00:08:11] Speaker C: And we only see them from the front, but they apparently have, like, long alien kind of oh, wait, no, that's an actual alien. [00:08:16] Speaker B: Never mind. [00:08:18] Speaker A: No, I think it's a little guy. [00:08:19] Speaker B: From the yeah, I can't tell if. [00:08:22] Speaker C: It'S an alien or if it's a little yeah, it is. [00:08:24] Speaker B: They've got, like, long Xenomorph heads. And as we know, Johnny, he also does Xenomorphs. He also does Xenomorphs. [00:08:33] Speaker A: So it might have been a little tip to the hat of yeah, so and we'll talk a little bit more about Borens Bjorn Barons, whose opening quote was from him today, because in this issue, we get a really nice interview with Bjorn Barons about his process, which. [00:08:48] Speaker B: I thought was really interesting as one of my favorite cover artists. [00:08:52] Speaker C: It was cool to see how he's. [00:08:54] Speaker B: A great cover artist, and it was. [00:08:56] Speaker A: Interesting to see him say, like, man, I hope one day I could do a whole comic in my style. And that'd be crazy. [00:09:01] Speaker B: That would be so cool. That would be so cool. [00:09:05] Speaker C: How are you reading it over there then, Johnny? [00:09:07] Speaker A: Well, I've got a floppy here. I've got the A cover as well. So we've got Spawn with the little guys, little alien, little Xenomorph devil standing on skulls. [00:09:20] Speaker B: They're, like, freaky and cute. [00:09:23] Speaker C: I can't tell if they're more horrifying. [00:09:25] Speaker B: Or cute, and I fucking love it. A little bit of both. [00:09:28] Speaker A: There are three other covers. [00:09:30] Speaker B: B cover is by I can read. [00:09:33] Speaker C: Them off to you. [00:09:34] Speaker A: The c cover is by Francesco Mattina. [00:09:36] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:09:38] Speaker B: The B cover is a McFarlane cover yes. With FCO Plazinsia doing colors. Oh, nice. [00:09:46] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:09:47] Speaker A: But it's like Omega staring down spawn and medieval. [00:09:51] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:09:51] Speaker A: Or the chain gang, if you will. [00:09:55] Speaker C: Half the chain gang. [00:09:56] Speaker B: Because the chain gang is like, four people, right. [00:10:02] Speaker A: And he's just kind of looming over them coming out of the mist. [00:10:06] Speaker B: Yeah. And there's a black and white version. [00:10:09] Speaker A: Of that as well. [00:10:10] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [00:10:11] Speaker C: Black and white. [00:10:12] Speaker B: Except for his eyes still have a little bit of red glow around them, which I think. Really? Yeah. C cover is by Francesco Mattina. Yes, indeed. [00:10:25] Speaker A: And it is monolith. [00:10:26] Speaker C: Oh, man. [00:10:27] Speaker B: It is monolith. [00:10:28] Speaker C: Holding Al Simmons as if he himself were an invisible orange made visible were a hot dog. [00:10:37] Speaker B: Yeah, he's always about to put some. [00:10:38] Speaker A: Mustard on him and eat him. [00:10:40] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:10:41] Speaker C: Man, Mattina put some mustard on this. [00:10:43] Speaker B: It is oh, yeah, beautiful. And look at that. [00:10:48] Speaker C: Yeah, I guess the hot dog analogy is better because look at that. Monolith is literally drooling. He's so excited. [00:10:55] Speaker A: Drooling. [00:10:55] Speaker B: I only paid a dollar 50 for this at Costco. [00:10:58] Speaker C: Hell yeah. [00:11:00] Speaker A: Oh, man, I love a Costco hot dog. [00:11:02] Speaker B: It's the best part of going get. [00:11:04] Speaker A: A hot dog at the end. [00:11:05] Speaker B: What a treat. Oh, man. [00:11:07] Speaker A: Or sometimes if I am hungry, you get it. [00:11:11] Speaker C: Mean. Especially if you're going to a place that sells you all of the food. [00:11:16] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:11:16] Speaker A: You should eat before you go in. [00:11:19] Speaker C: Pro tip. [00:11:19] Speaker A: Never go to Costco hungry. [00:11:21] Speaker C: Well, never go to the grocery store. [00:11:22] Speaker B: Hungry because then you end up with. [00:11:24] Speaker C: Just snack foods, and then you're like, I want to eat an actual meal, but all I've got are pretzels and gummy bears. What the hell? [00:11:31] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, I guess you go to Costco hungry because you can get food before you go during the regular grocery store hungry. [00:11:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:11:39] Speaker C: If you go during free samples time. [00:11:42] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:11:43] Speaker C: I have a friend whose dad used to take him to Sam's for free samples. They would do that for their meal. [00:11:53] Speaker B: So they would go through and they'd. [00:11:56] Speaker C: Hit all the free samples, and then they'd wait for the sample vendors to change, and then they'd go through again and they'd do it three or four. [00:12:02] Speaker B: Times, and that was their lunch. [00:12:07] Speaker C: Multiple things from Sam's club. [00:12:09] Speaker A: I remember getting pizza at Sam's club as a the. [00:12:13] Speaker C: Like, at the cafe or frozen. [00:12:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:12:16] Speaker C: At the we never we never ate at the cafe. If we ever did do cafe, we just got ices. [00:12:23] Speaker B: Nice. Yeah. My mom wasn't real big on the. [00:12:27] Speaker C: Questionable quality of the food at those, but, man, you try to tell her she couldn't have a Coke icy and. [00:12:34] Speaker B: Well, she'd be telling you a thing. [00:12:37] Speaker C: Or two about we're getting the goddamn Coke. [00:12:39] Speaker B: I see. Just shut your face. I always get a pretzel at Target. Oh, nice. Oh, man. [00:12:47] Speaker C: Yeah, because the regular targets in Walmart. [00:12:50] Speaker B: Used to have little cafes in them. All of them. [00:12:54] Speaker A: Yeah, the Target had, like, a little you get, like, a pretzel. You get an icy. [00:12:58] Speaker B: You get, like, a little meal. Oh, man. [00:13:01] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:13:01] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:13:02] Speaker C: We used to be a country, Johnny. [00:13:05] Speaker B: I know. You used to be able to eat it at though. [00:13:08] Speaker C: Although my mom did put me onto the tip of if you are at the grocery store hungry, just go to the hot deli and get some jojo potatoes. [00:13:15] Speaker B: Those things are great. [00:13:16] Speaker A: What's a jojo potato? [00:13:18] Speaker C: They're just the potato wedges. [00:13:19] Speaker B: The Seasoned Potato. [00:13:24] Speaker A: Never called. I never heard him called that. [00:13:25] Speaker B: Shit. Shit. [00:13:27] Speaker C: If I were clever enough, I would have made a JoJo's bizarre adventure reference there. But I don't know enough JoJo's bizarre. [00:13:33] Speaker B: Adventure to JoJo's bizarre potatoes. [00:13:37] Speaker A: I know. Every character is named after a band. [00:13:40] Speaker B: Which band? [00:13:41] Speaker A: Oh, every character is named after a band. Like, there's a character named Boingo. [00:13:47] Speaker C: Nice. [00:13:48] Speaker B: Nice. I don't know if every character is. [00:13:51] Speaker A: But a lot of them are just like, band names. [00:13:55] Speaker B: It's very weird. It's very weird. [00:13:58] Speaker A: It's a bizarre adventure. [00:13:59] Speaker C: Yeah, I guess that's the truth. Speaking of bizarre adventures, Johnny, we need to set sail on the seas of Spawn, don't we? [00:14:09] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:14:10] Speaker B: It's time. [00:14:12] Speaker A: So this is 317. I guess we should go over the credits. It's written by Todd McFarland, quite obviously. Quite obviously. We got Carlo Barberry doing the art. [00:14:25] Speaker C: Hell, yeah. [00:14:26] Speaker B: And it's great art. [00:14:27] Speaker A: We got our core people here that have been kind of established now, these last few. Tom Hordzachowski, he's been established since the beginning. [00:14:34] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:34] Speaker C: He is the establishment, basically. [00:14:37] Speaker B: If we're talking about the J. David. [00:14:39] Speaker A: Ramos on colors, what'd you say? [00:14:41] Speaker C: I said if we're talking about the man in Spawn, that's Tom O. Tom Owen's, the man. [00:14:45] Speaker A: J David Ramos on colors. [00:14:47] Speaker B: Beautiful colors. We covered the wonderful covers. Yes, we did. Tod McFarland's, creative director. And Thomas Healy is editor. Yeah. No, not chief yet. [00:15:00] Speaker A: I think it becomes Editor in Chief when you got multiple titles. [00:15:03] Speaker B: I guess maybe we'll see. [00:15:06] Speaker A: We'll find out on this journey together. [00:15:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:11] Speaker A: So we pop it open this relic from June 2021. [00:15:16] Speaker C: June 2021? Don't you mean April 2020? April. [00:15:19] Speaker A: Sorry, I don't know why I said June. [00:15:20] Speaker C: Oh, boy. [00:15:21] Speaker A: I was thinking about when Spawn's Universe came out, because we were just talking about it. [00:15:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:25] Speaker A: And Spawn's Universe issue came out in June 2021. Well, so we're going to get into it. Might as well read the previously on So previously in Spawn previously Cult of Omega, the battle against the sinister Omega rages on in his secret lair. But with the surprise arrival of the Plague, his inevitable victory starts to slip through his bloodied fingers. But with whom will the Plague stand with in the end? [00:15:52] Speaker C: That last sentence there, Johnny, that question is one of the sentences I read, like, six times and was like, there's got to be a better way to have said that. [00:16:02] Speaker A: With whom will the Plague stand within the end? [00:16:05] Speaker C: Yeah, too many widths in that sentence. [00:16:07] Speaker B: For me, but that's neither here nor there. [00:16:12] Speaker C: So as far as chain gang and. [00:16:15] Speaker B: Cult of Omega, for the past two. [00:16:18] Speaker C: Issues, we've had previously colon Cult of Omega. [00:16:22] Speaker B: Yes. [00:16:22] Speaker C: As far as I know, Cult of Omega was those four issues ending in. [00:16:28] Speaker B: 315, and these last two issues, 316, and this one have just been nameless. As far as Arc goes. Yeah, a little bit. I mean, it would be a little they're they've all been one big fight. One big, big fight. Man. [00:16:55] Speaker C: Almost kitchen sink level fight here. [00:16:57] Speaker A: Johnny yeah, I mean, basically what it's been this is about three issues of. [00:17:01] Speaker B: This fight with Omega. Like at the end of one issue, Medieval showed up. [00:17:07] Speaker A: And then the last time they cut his fucking arm off and almost killed him, it seemed. And then he did like a big beam thing, which is where we open up here. [00:17:15] Speaker B: Yeah, he does like a nuclear beam explosion in the middle of the island. [00:17:21] Speaker A: And causes a lot of problems, it seems. [00:17:25] Speaker C: There's several miles away, there's probably a gila monster just like hanging out on. [00:17:30] Speaker B: The beach going, what's that? And the next thing you know, you'll. [00:17:37] Speaker C: Start hearing the little strings going, dee. [00:17:39] Speaker B: Dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee. [00:17:46] Speaker C: And then and then, you know, Godzilla. [00:17:48] Speaker B: Will destroy the city. [00:17:50] Speaker C: I guess it was a Komodo dragon. [00:17:52] Speaker B: In the 1998 not a HeLa monster. God damn it. [00:17:57] Speaker A: Yeah, he was a Komodo dragon that was turned into a giant Godzilla. [00:18:00] Speaker C: I remember that because that was around the time that the Komodo dragons came to the Tulsa Zoo and everybody was. [00:18:06] Speaker B: Like, the Komodo dragons. I remember that. Man. [00:18:11] Speaker C: That was so cool. But that bitch is so lazy. Johnny he didn't do nothing. [00:18:17] Speaker B: He just sat there. I couldn't imagine being Moto dragon, being an exothermic animal that is so large. [00:18:27] Speaker C: That literally it has to be like 112 degrees outside for you to have enough body heats to even do anything wild. [00:18:36] Speaker B: Wild. [00:18:37] Speaker C: But yeah, there's this nuclear blast. [00:18:42] Speaker B: Out. [00:18:42] Speaker C: Of the middle of the island. [00:18:44] Speaker B: And. [00:18:46] Speaker C: The blast is all part of Omega's contingency plan, which boils down to cause distractions. [00:18:53] Speaker B: Yes. [00:18:54] Speaker C: And so this beam just like. [00:18:59] Speaker B: It. [00:19:00] Speaker C: Basically hits the fuck shit up on Earth button and just causes earthquakes everywhere. [00:19:07] Speaker B: And for some reason on this page johnny this two page spread, it's telling. [00:19:14] Speaker C: Us about all the earthquakes and the distractions that Omega is causing. And then just for some reason the White House. [00:19:21] Speaker B: Yes. It shows the like like not in. [00:19:25] Speaker C: Peril, not with stuff happening around it. [00:19:29] Speaker B: Just the White House. [00:19:31] Speaker C: I was so confused. Unless that's one of the distractions. And the president at the time of this comic book writing is said to be one of the distractions created by Omegaspawn. [00:19:48] Speaker A: I don't know why. It's like in time he reveals himself to those he's meant to lord over. Maybe just showing like eventually he'll oh wait. [00:19:56] Speaker C: Johnny I'm looking closer now and it looks like there might be a couple of cracks along the facade of the building. [00:20:02] Speaker B: So maybe the earthquakes have maybe that's. [00:20:07] Speaker A: There is a couple of cracks. Very subtle. He's cracking the white house. That's how much it shook, man. [00:20:19] Speaker C: Wild. [00:20:20] Speaker B: Absolutely wild. [00:20:22] Speaker C: There, we got it. [00:20:23] Speaker B: We got 1600 pin just like right there. Medieval and Al just doing some battles. [00:20:31] Speaker A: He's going wild. He's going wild. Al goes, no, he's sending a signal. There must be others like him. Like, how the fuck would you know that? [00:20:43] Speaker B: Yeah, and then the background, we've got. [00:20:45] Speaker C: Omega, he's still sending out his Beam. And then he just, like, slowly sputters like a car running out of gas and then just is like. [00:20:59] Speaker B: So it. [00:21:01] Speaker A: Was surprising to Omega that it ceased as well. [00:21:03] Speaker C: Yeah, he was like, damn. He's like he's like, I swear, Albert, it's never happened like this before. [00:21:10] Speaker A: I swear this never happens. I usually get to beam all night. [00:21:17] Speaker C: Al says, I think he's too injured. [00:21:19] Speaker B: And well, he's done been stabbed in. [00:21:22] Speaker C: The leg, in the eye and had an arm a hand removed. [00:21:26] Speaker A: He's had a lot done to him. [00:21:27] Speaker B: And man, it's boy. He's a big boy, though, so. [00:21:37] Speaker C: We don't know. [00:21:38] Speaker B: And then we cut to our pundit page here. Yes. We got just a whole bunch of. [00:21:47] Speaker C: Talk about all the earthquakes and people like everybody's really very confused because we've never seen simultaneous earthquakes like this before. [00:21:57] Speaker B: Which is kind of weird. [00:21:59] Speaker C: And Brock the Shock says it's totally underground nuclear testing. [00:22:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:22:07] Speaker A: Hollow earth theory, dude. Come on. [00:22:09] Speaker C: And then he ends it by 100% advocating for the Patriot Act there. [00:22:18] Speaker B: Of course he would. [00:22:20] Speaker C: Yeah, he would well, he would advocate for the Patriot Act for everyone but him and certain loyalists because then that would be government overreach. [00:22:31] Speaker B: Right, Johnny? [00:22:31] Speaker A: As long as it doesn't affect. [00:22:35] Speaker C: The maximumnews.com still so maximum news. [00:22:40] Speaker A: Pretty classic pundits page of just, like, talking about the world effects of what's going on on this island fight. [00:22:48] Speaker C: And then back to the island fight. [00:22:50] Speaker B: Where, well, spawn takes up medieval sword and jams it right into medieval's back. [00:22:59] Speaker C: He's literally backstabbing Johnny. [00:23:01] Speaker A: Jams into medieval's back. He jams into back. [00:23:04] Speaker C: So oh, yeah, I meant to say. [00:23:06] Speaker B: Did I say he put it in medieval's back? Yeah. [00:23:09] Speaker C: Oh, sorry, sorry. Medieval. [00:23:10] Speaker B: No, we're not backstabbing medieval yet. Yet. [00:23:13] Speaker A: Don't backstab him. [00:23:14] Speaker B: Yeah, but I do like that it's. [00:23:17] Speaker C: Revealed in this final panel of this page. [00:23:20] Speaker B: Johnny, as Al is just like getting. [00:23:27] Speaker C: That sword all the way deep, deep, deep into Omega's back. That the pommel of medieval sword is a little bitty skull with gigantic vampire feet fangs. [00:23:37] Speaker B: That's pretty great, man. [00:23:40] Speaker C: You just got to watch out. Like, if your hand slips too far in the grip, you accidentally poke yourself. [00:23:44] Speaker B: And it's like. [00:23:48] Speaker C: Watch out for those teeth, man. Hell spawn weapons are dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. [00:23:58] Speaker A: Yeah. With all the decorative spikes and skulls, you got to be careful. [00:24:02] Speaker C: Could you imagine trying to wipe your forehead with your wrist and accidentally dragging. [00:24:07] Speaker B: Those fucking claws across your forehead? [00:24:10] Speaker C: And it's like I mangled my face again. [00:24:14] Speaker A: Imagine wiping something else. [00:24:17] Speaker B: Hey, Johnny, this is a clean show. [00:24:22] Speaker A: No? [00:24:27] Speaker C: Yeah, he'd really have to take pains. [00:24:29] Speaker B: To johnny, Johnny, I'm going to assume. [00:24:33] Speaker C: That hell spawns all just use a bidet at this point because there ain't no way you're going to be able to wipe nothing with those. [00:24:40] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, maybe they just don't eat or use the bathroom. [00:24:44] Speaker C: Because I mean, if you're able to somehow wipe without completely damaging your whole downstairs business, you can't trust that those spikes are clean enough to do anything with. So then you'd have to get in the shower and soap them all up individually. [00:24:59] Speaker B: Or actually, I guess since they're hell. [00:25:01] Speaker C: Spawned, they could just light themselves on. [00:25:03] Speaker B: Fire for a second and clean themselves that way. Yeah, that's true. I guess they just do that. [00:25:13] Speaker C: Do Hell spawns have localized power to just flash fry their bum bum regions to get it clear of any particles? [00:25:22] Speaker A: God fucking know I don't want to think about that. Hey, I'm the one to open this door. [00:25:30] Speaker C: Hey, I'm sure the todd fathers thought about it. [00:25:33] Speaker A: I'm sure he has his bum bums and toilet. [00:25:35] Speaker C: Maybe it'll be revealed in Gunslinger that gunslinger decided he didn't need to use the outhouse anymore because he's got the business. [00:25:45] Speaker B: He can just burn it. [00:25:48] Speaker C: Oh, boy. You definitely do not want to go in there after a Hell spawn. It smells like burning hair, but Al's just chucking away. [00:26:00] Speaker A: We get this weird text about how when someone has a bloodlust and a fevers pitch, you got to just let them slow down on its own. Can't stop it. [00:26:10] Speaker C: Basically, it's like a toddler at a sugar high. Just let them burn themselves out, dude, they'll fall asleep eventually. Just let them go. I do like with the shucks, there's the two big shucks, and then there's. [00:26:25] Speaker B: Like two tiny shucks. [00:26:26] Speaker C: So it's like he goes, shuck, shuck. And then just like, shuck, shuck, shuck, shuck. [00:26:32] Speaker B: They won last. Shock. Oh, boy. [00:26:39] Speaker A: I mean, Omega's just gotten the shit kicked out of three issues now. I kind of feel bad for him. [00:26:44] Speaker C: Yeah. He's laying on the ground. [00:26:49] Speaker B: Well, like a deadman. [00:26:53] Speaker C: His beautiful mane is all covered in green goo. His handless arm is just like pinned underneath him. [00:27:02] Speaker B: His chains are just limp. [00:27:07] Speaker C: And then in the top right corner, there is one of the island security guys just like cut in half, cut straight in half. [00:27:16] Speaker A: There's another one just like crispy burns. [00:27:19] Speaker B: Yeah, he's burned to bejesus looking like Al Simmons there. [00:27:23] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:27:26] Speaker B: Oh, man. There's a conspiracy, Johnny, that has to. [00:27:30] Speaker C: Be Al Simmons because he's crispy. So who's in the spawn suit? [00:27:35] Speaker A: You can't have more than one crispy in a comic. [00:27:37] Speaker B: No, definitely not. [00:27:38] Speaker C: So Al's like, I got to keep doing stuff and medieval's like, hold up, bud. Hold up, hold up. You gotta take a breather first. [00:27:46] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:27:47] Speaker A: Spawn's looking for plague. Wants to find him. [00:27:53] Speaker C: Yeah. And then he's like, where did he throw that hell spawn? And it said, last issue. And I was like, what is he talking oh, I forgot. That when Plague shot his little Spiky's out, omega was just like he's like chucked him. [00:28:10] Speaker A: He said, where the hell he throw it? And then it'll compass. Medieval is like, to the northeast. [00:28:17] Speaker C: It's like when Wanda asks me where something is. And I'm like, well, obviously it's north. [00:28:21] Speaker B: And south of here. [00:28:23] Speaker C: North and south. Most everything is north and east or north and west of us. And then Wanda is like, I don't know what that fucking means. Just tell me where it is. And I'm like, but it's like north and west. I can't be any. [00:28:40] Speaker B: So Chicago is. [00:28:42] Speaker A: Pretty easy to figure out direction wise. [00:28:45] Speaker B: Just because of the yeah, yeah, it's true. [00:28:49] Speaker C: Everybody likes to use the lake as a marker, but that only works if you can see the lake. [00:28:54] Speaker B: If you're far enough west. It doesn't make any sense. That's true. Yeah. [00:29:00] Speaker C: Hooray for the grid. Monolith is out cold. He's two face in the hospital right now. [00:29:11] Speaker B: From behind, they hear it. Both of them know what it means. And they're covered by a big shadow. And Al just says, what's it going to take? What's it going to take to get you in a new kia century today, Johnny? A new what's it going to take. [00:29:29] Speaker A: To kill this spawn? [00:29:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:29:32] Speaker C: In other words, can anything kill this monstrosity? And fucking Omega's there just rear and. [00:29:38] Speaker B: Back holding Aloft to the largest rock in existence. [00:29:42] Speaker C: Like, this is the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. [00:29:46] Speaker B: Johnny that's how big this thing is with one hand? Yeah, with missing. Yeah, he's holding it up with one. [00:29:52] Speaker C: Hand and one stump. [00:29:54] Speaker B: And then just like a teenager trying to see how cool a break stuff. [00:30:02] Speaker C: They can do by throwing stuff on. [00:30:03] Speaker B: The ground, he just throws this rock right on top of Alan medieval and. [00:30:10] Speaker C: Medieval attempts to grab his shield. [00:30:13] Speaker B: It's too late. [00:30:14] Speaker A: Oh, my god, they're dead. [00:30:16] Speaker B: Oh, no. [00:30:18] Speaker C: Finally, Omega says, I need to rest. [00:30:22] Speaker A: I hear he's like, I want to. [00:30:23] Speaker B: Go down to this pit. [00:30:25] Speaker A: No, he's not. Yeah, it just zooms in on the pit. [00:30:27] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:30:29] Speaker C: His horse breathing masks the slight echo drifting from the pit. That just means that Omega is sitting there like, which would be quite a sight to see this four story tall man just breathing like he's a fat guy who tried to chase after the ice cream truck a little too vigorously. [00:30:56] Speaker B: Which I only know how that sounds from personal experience. Johnny that's a pretty loud breathing, let me tell you. [00:31:05] Speaker A: Especially if you miss the ice cream truck. [00:31:09] Speaker C: If the kids next door aren't there for the ice cream dudes to just stop naturally. You got to chase after that dude. [00:31:16] Speaker B: Or else he might not come by for two days. You ain't getting any ice cream, man. Yeah. [00:31:23] Speaker C: And the ice cream trucks over in this part of town, Johnny, they have. [00:31:26] Speaker B: Soft serve machines on. Oh, boy. [00:31:30] Speaker C: And their twist, instead of being vanilla and chocolate, it's vanilla and strawberry. [00:31:37] Speaker B: It's so good. It's so good. [00:31:39] Speaker A: That sounds good. [00:31:40] Speaker B: Yeah. And if you're feeling fancy for 350, you can turn it into a sundae. Hell yeah. Got that. [00:31:47] Speaker A: I like that. [00:31:48] Speaker C: That hot chocolate and those sprinkles and all that. Oh, it's delicious. I love the ice cream. [00:31:52] Speaker A: Truck starts to zoom down this giant hole, and Cogliostro is down there laughing. [00:31:57] Speaker C: Yeah, he's just I bet he's sad that he's not got his strawberry ripple down there, though. I bet that would be yeah, he. [00:32:11] Speaker A: Loves to be drunk. [00:32:12] Speaker C: You imagine he's stealing all this necroplasm for what we know that he's doing, and he's just like a little bit at a time using it to make himself more cases of strawberry ripple. So he's just like, drunk as a skunk down at the bottom of this mile long pit having a ball, like. [00:32:32] Speaker B: Hey, man, we said we got to keep on trucking. [00:32:35] Speaker C: We're trucking down here. [00:32:38] Speaker B: That would be I mean, we go back up top. Johnny and Plague is oozing his way out from between a couple of big rocks. [00:32:50] Speaker A: Like a snake, it says. [00:32:51] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:32:53] Speaker C: And then Omega's over there trying to pick up the rock that he just threw down. [00:32:57] Speaker B: So that way he again, got to. [00:32:59] Speaker A: Check, make sure they're squished. [00:33:00] Speaker C: Yeah, like a teenager again. If he's using those rocks to smush. [00:33:06] Speaker B: Bugs, the point isn't to just smoosh. [00:33:10] Speaker C: The bug, but you got to see how gnarly of the smoosh you got. [00:33:13] Speaker B: So he's lifting it up, and he's. [00:33:16] Speaker C: Met with quite a frank. [00:33:18] Speaker B: There's nothing down there. This is just a broken shield. It's a shield, yeah. [00:33:25] Speaker A: And then it happens. [00:33:28] Speaker B: Chain gang. The chain gang just a bunch of. [00:33:32] Speaker A: Chains fly out, shoots out from under. [00:33:35] Speaker B: The ground, wrap around his neck. And then the next thing you know. [00:33:39] Speaker C: You got Al Simmons, like hero Superman posing, coming out of the ground, punching. [00:33:44] Speaker A: Out of the ground. [00:33:46] Speaker C: Medieval my chains. [00:33:47] Speaker B: Grab them and bring them down. [00:33:52] Speaker C: And then medieval pops about behind. [00:33:59] Speaker B: Man, oh, man. And medieval can't get I wonder if. [00:34:02] Speaker A: Medieval'S like, why the fuck do you call me medieval? [00:34:07] Speaker C: Be like, my name is Jonathan. [00:34:10] Speaker B: Come on. [00:34:10] Speaker A: Yeah, he's like, my name's like John of York. [00:34:15] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:34:16] Speaker A: He's like because that's the name of the toy. [00:34:18] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:34:19] Speaker C: Or he's like, please, please. [00:34:21] Speaker B: Medieval was my am. Shit. I guess dark ages would be more cumbersome, wouldn't it? Yeah, dark ages spawn dark ages. [00:34:36] Speaker A: I mean, there is spawn the dark Ages, which is a spin off. [00:34:39] Speaker C: Obviously, if he were to have given. [00:34:41] Speaker B: Himself a name, it would be something along the lines of holy something because of the way he was turned into what he is. Right. Because obviously he was yeah, he was like commissioned kind of. Well, now I'm getting lost in it. Johnny what do you mean? Do I know the actual genesis of medieval spawn? [00:35:10] Speaker A: Because I know yeah, it was in Scorched. [00:35:12] Speaker C: Well, yeah, because I know that the. [00:35:15] Speaker B: Original medieval spawn was. [00:35:18] Speaker C: A child who was corrupted by the Church. Yes, but that was his human self. [00:35:25] Speaker B: That was before he was a spawn. [00:35:27] Speaker C: So what did he do when he died to become a spawn? [00:35:32] Speaker B: To need to be a knight? [00:35:34] Speaker C: I mean, obviously as a warrior in that time, he would have naturally drawn. [00:35:38] Speaker B: To be being a huh. I don't know, Johnny. [00:35:45] Speaker A: I think we need to we need. [00:35:46] Speaker C: To read more about Medieval. [00:35:47] Speaker B: He's a very confusing character. And by confusing, I mean he is. [00:35:52] Speaker A: He'S confusing too, because, like, Mark's in there now. [00:35:55] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:35:56] Speaker A: How much is Mark? [00:35:56] Speaker B: How much is the old Medieval? It is a little. Yeah. [00:36:04] Speaker C: Is there any of that one that appeared for three pages in issue number nine and was immediately. [00:36:14] Speaker A: Destroyed, killed by an angel? [00:36:17] Speaker B: Yeah. Or the one in 309 that was. [00:36:22] Speaker A: Like raptor was in his brain, like, whatever the hell that was. [00:36:25] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:36:26] Speaker A: Speaking of wild. [00:36:28] Speaker B: What's wild? [00:36:29] Speaker A: Speaking of 309, we got to talk about how they found a box of the Nether Realms variant. [00:36:35] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Do you have any more I don't. [00:36:39] Speaker A: Have any more info, but someone on Instagram posted they got that Nether Realms Mortal Kombat spawn variant of 309 that we had talked about was so rare, and I guess someone found a box of them because it said, I ordered it before the box was found. So I guess someone found a box of them and they're not as rare anymore. [00:36:59] Speaker C: But Eagle Eared listeners will remember that I said that there was probably a custodian who found a box of them. [00:37:06] Speaker B: And was like, comics are worth stuff. [00:37:09] Speaker C: Maybe I'll keep these in my closet. And lo and behold, maybe that was it. [00:37:13] Speaker A: The mythical that was the story. [00:37:14] Speaker C: The mythical custodian comes forward. [00:37:18] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:37:18] Speaker A: So if you're looking for that spawn Nether Realms variant, it might be a little easier to get. Now, the box was found nominally easier. [00:37:26] Speaker C: Because weren't there only like 50 of. [00:37:28] Speaker B: Them in the box? [00:37:29] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, that's the thing. There's not like, a ton in the box, but it's just a little bit easier to find. [00:37:34] Speaker B: Yeah. That just means that if you have. [00:37:36] Speaker C: It now, it's worthless. [00:37:37] Speaker B: You could just use it as TP. No, you don't need to use this TP. [00:37:42] Speaker A: You can just zap it off with your spawn power. [00:37:46] Speaker C: Just burn it in the backyard. It's worth it. [00:37:48] Speaker A: Burn that shit right off your ass. Let's just say it. [00:37:54] Speaker C: Oh, boy. Okay, so spawn's got his chains around Omega, and Medieval sitting there just like but he can't do anything. [00:38:06] Speaker B: And then Plague is just, like, creeping up behind Omega and gooes his legs together so that way Medieval can topple him. It's. Two pronged attacked Johnny. [00:38:24] Speaker C: It's their own distraction. [00:38:28] Speaker A: Like, distraction plan. It's in quotes. Also, this wasn't a plan. Plague just like Saul and was like, I'm going to do this. [00:38:36] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:38:37] Speaker C: And then Al's, like, when he falls. [00:38:38] Speaker B: Cut his head off. [00:38:39] Speaker C: Medieval says there won't be time. And medieval was actually quite right because. [00:38:46] Speaker B: As soon as Omega falls, instead of Medieval getting over or yeah, as soon. [00:38:52] Speaker C: As Omega falls, instead of Medieval being able to get over there and chop his head off with a sword, plague just starts dragging him down the Pit. Just like right into it. [00:39:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:39:00] Speaker A: He's like, I'm taking you down to the Cogliostro. Let's go. [00:39:03] Speaker C: Yeah. He gets the end of drag me to hell here. That train has come in and Justin Long is looking frightened. [00:39:16] Speaker B: From the station. [00:39:17] Speaker C: Platform as Omega just like crying. [00:39:20] Speaker B: Just like goes and disappears. Man. [00:39:24] Speaker A: Yeah. He gets stuck like halfway down. He's too big to go all the way through. [00:39:28] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:39:29] Speaker C: And he's trying to claw himself away. [00:39:33] Speaker B: From the Pit and nothing's. [00:39:35] Speaker C: It's not working. [00:39:35] Speaker B: Johnny Plague is just like so strong. Even though he's so much smaller. [00:39:43] Speaker A: He's just dragging him down. [00:39:48] Speaker C: And then Al and Medieval are just standing at the top of the pit. [00:39:52] Speaker B: Being, what, do we go after him? No, but he's still alive. [00:40:01] Speaker A: Doesn't matter. He's down that hole. Calgary OSHA. They're drinking. [00:40:05] Speaker C: They're having they're having a good time. Mr. Kitty's down there. Mr. Kitty's retelling all the stories that clown told him in the alley. And they're just like, oh, that clown's. [00:40:16] Speaker B: Full of shit, Kitty. [00:40:18] Speaker C: Don't listen to that piece of so. And then Al's talking about how the readings that they've gotten for the Pit. [00:40:27] Speaker B: Are wildly different from what they normally. [00:40:32] Speaker C: Just it's not just the presence of. [00:40:34] Speaker B: Plague spawn that is what's giving off the weird readings. [00:40:40] Speaker C: Then the ground starts quaking and the Pit falls in on itself. [00:40:45] Speaker B: Just collapses. Yeah. And then they bring in medieval says. [00:40:50] Speaker C: I need your help. [00:40:51] Speaker B: And Alice says, help. You nearly killed me last time. See issue 304. [00:40:57] Speaker C: The medieval says, that wasn't me. Not completely. [00:41:01] Speaker B: What's that supposed to mean? [00:41:05] Speaker C: Medieval is like, I'll tell you later. [00:41:07] Speaker B: Whatever. And we learned that they don't trust each other. [00:41:12] Speaker C: Sal says, what if I don't trust you? And then Medieval says, then that'd make us even. [00:41:16] Speaker B: They go and they hide in a. [00:41:19] Speaker C: Little cave made by some rocks. [00:41:22] Speaker B: I think they're going to use it. [00:41:23] Speaker A: To shadow blast out of there, it appears. [00:41:25] Speaker C: Yeah, probably. [00:41:27] Speaker B: And then we go back down to the pit and Omega is still falling. He's still clawing, trying to slow his. [00:41:36] Speaker C: Descent by clawing through the walls. [00:41:38] Speaker B: And it's not working. [00:41:42] Speaker A: He gets down to the bottom. [00:41:43] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:41:46] Speaker A: He looks in the darkness. [00:41:48] Speaker C: He sees plague. [00:41:49] Speaker B: And Plague is just like, oh boy. Plague is extra hexacy right now when it's just all you could see is. [00:41:57] Speaker C: Eyes in his mouth and they're just like burning with a the worst you got the worst nightmare of all time. [00:42:06] Speaker B: Johnny the grumpy old man with a plan. [00:42:10] Speaker A: I'm so confused about this shit. [00:42:13] Speaker B: I'm just like, what? Kagios was in this pit last time. [00:42:19] Speaker A: I thought we saw him. He got his head cut off. He was a hippie man. Got his head cut off by a gunslinger. [00:42:24] Speaker C: He doesn't have his poncho now, but I'm pretty sure he had his poncho in Spawn's universe. [00:42:31] Speaker A: I don't know. We'll find out. [00:42:33] Speaker B: Yeah, we did find out and we forgot. [00:42:37] Speaker A: But we can go look again. [00:42:39] Speaker C: It's not outside the realm of possibilities. And this necrometer meter. Meter for plague is very high, very powerful. [00:42:48] Speaker B: 92130. Yeah. Oh boy. [00:42:52] Speaker A: He's got that red necroplasm. [00:42:54] Speaker B: Yeah. Recroplasm necred plasm. That doesn't work very well. [00:43:06] Speaker C: And the spawning brown grounds presents an interview with Bjorn Barons. [00:43:10] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a great interview. It's really fun to learn about his process on this 3D covers that he does. We know he's one of our favorites. Always has really dynamic covers. Like you said, the COVID might be the best part of this. [00:43:24] Speaker B: Mean it's it's probably one of the. [00:43:28] Speaker C: Kick assest covers Bjorn Barons has done. [00:43:30] Speaker B: And I don't want to say it's wasted on this issue, but it's definitely. [00:43:36] Speaker C: My favorite part of the issue, I think. [00:43:38] Speaker A: And then it's just a really nice interview. He seems really into Spawn and just. [00:43:44] Speaker B: Interesting how he uses 3D models and. [00:43:47] Speaker A: Says like, oh, it takes just as. [00:43:48] Speaker B: Long as doing it as drawing. Yeah. [00:43:51] Speaker C: And he's like, but then if I. [00:43:53] Speaker B: Spend time on it for one if. [00:43:55] Speaker C: I spend enough time on one model. [00:43:56] Speaker B: I can use that model for multiple different projects if he does it right. So that's cool. That's cool. [00:44:04] Speaker C: He's working smarter. [00:44:05] Speaker A: So maybe these little guys were kind of like he took the alien model and deformed them a little bit. [00:44:10] Speaker B: Maybe that's why they look kind of Xenomorph esque. Yeah. Like the progression from ball to Spawn skull is pretty cool. That just seems crazy. [00:44:23] Speaker A: I don't even know how you'd even do that. [00:44:25] Speaker C: Yeah, Johnny. [00:44:26] Speaker B: I have a hard enough time picturing. [00:44:29] Speaker C: How I want numbers to look in. [00:44:31] Speaker B: A table and then creating that for work. [00:44:34] Speaker C: I couldn't imagine having an image of something in my mind like this and turning it into a reality. The ability to translate thoughts into an. [00:44:45] Speaker B: Actual image is something that will never not be awe inspiring to me. Yeah. [00:44:55] Speaker A: It's something that just doesn't even I can't even comprehend how to sculpt or even anything like that. [00:45:00] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, man. [00:45:02] Speaker C: Yeah, me either. [00:45:05] Speaker B: I don't have that eye. No. [00:45:09] Speaker C: Thank you, artists, for being, for existing and putting these beautiful and terrifying things. [00:45:16] Speaker B: In front of our eyes, because. [00:45:20] Speaker C: I can understand you probably don't want that in your head anymore. And if you got to get it. [00:45:24] Speaker B: Out, you got to get it out. [00:45:26] Speaker C: And get it into my head. [00:45:28] Speaker B: So that way you don't suffer alone. Support the arts, y'all. Most definitely. [00:45:34] Speaker A: So then we get a whole bunch of ads for trade paperbacks homesick pilots. [00:45:40] Speaker B: That looks pretty groovy. [00:45:41] Speaker C: I'd probably read. [00:45:42] Speaker B: That looks cool. It's got Kieran Gillian, James Tinney in. [00:45:47] Speaker C: The fourth, and Scott snyder all given little quotes on the front page. And those are three people whose work I love. [00:45:53] Speaker B: And if they love it, maybe I'll love it, too. [00:45:56] Speaker C: They got those image firsts for a. [00:45:58] Speaker B: Dollar, volume ones for 999, time before time. OOH, look at this. [00:46:03] Speaker C: They got an ad for a book written by a Roy McConville. [00:46:06] Speaker B: Johnny oh, look at that. [00:46:10] Speaker A: Wonder what happened there. [00:46:11] Speaker C: No idea. [00:46:12] Speaker B: No idea. [00:46:13] Speaker C: Then we got Gold label toy action figures, the spawn that looks like the Mortal Kombat spawn. [00:46:20] Speaker B: They got the Blood angels. Primaris. Lieutenant. [00:46:27] Speaker A: That's Warhammer. [00:46:28] Speaker B: Yeah, that's from Warhammer, which, man, I. [00:46:30] Speaker C: Played a lot of Warhammer when I was little. There was one shop in Muskogee that did tabletop games, and they basically were. [00:46:45] Speaker B: Only open for games at the same. [00:46:48] Speaker C: Times that my dad would do Civil War reenactments. So during the day, we'd go a little bit south to Chicota to do my dad's Battle of Honey Springs reenactment. And our whole family would dress up in period, semi accurate clothing. [00:47:05] Speaker B: And we'd hang around, we'd watch the battle, and then we'd leave my father. [00:47:10] Speaker C: To pack up all of his Civil War stuff and my mom would rush me to Iron Brigade's miniatures and I'd be playing Warhammer and my little Civil War era clothing. That was terrible game. [00:47:24] Speaker B: But, yeah, we got a Mandarin spawn ad. That's it. [00:47:28] Speaker C: Is that the Mandarin spawn you have. [00:47:29] Speaker B: Or do you have the blue one? [00:47:30] Speaker A: I believe that's what I have. I have a blue and a regular. [00:47:32] Speaker B: I got two Mandarin spawns, man. [00:47:35] Speaker A: I got two david two. [00:47:37] Speaker B: You got Duples Duples. Excellent. [00:47:40] Speaker A: I got a blue and a red. [00:47:42] Speaker B: The blue and the red. [00:47:43] Speaker C: Now you just need a white one. So you can have the red, white. [00:47:45] Speaker B: And blue mandarin jolly. That's issue 317. That's 317. [00:48:01] Speaker A: So next up, gang, we've got Scorch Number 20. [00:48:05] Speaker C: Gang, you say? What kind of gang? [00:48:08] Speaker A: A chang gang. [00:48:09] Speaker B: Chang Gang. [00:48:10] Speaker A: The Chain Gang. [00:48:13] Speaker B: Scorch number 20. [00:48:15] Speaker C: Scorch number. Scorch number. [00:48:16] Speaker A: Dub It's got that really nice. John Williams. [00:48:20] Speaker B: J. [00:48:21] Speaker A: Maybe it's not John. It could be Joe. J H to John Williams. [00:48:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:48:25] Speaker A: John Williams did the COVID The composer, J H Williams II. [00:48:30] Speaker C: It would be awesome if John Williams, the composer, did a cover and it. [00:48:35] Speaker B: Was just like a score. The notes are arranged in the shape of a hellspawn. I bet it sounds absolutely terrible. [00:48:48] Speaker C: Kind of like when Apex twin used to upload images of his cats into a program and then the program would read the pictures as the waves for sounds. [00:49:04] Speaker A: Oh, nice. [00:49:04] Speaker C: So he would use the sounds created. [00:49:06] Speaker B: By pictures of his cats in his songs. What a wild dude. That is wild. [00:49:12] Speaker C: Yeah, but we got a Maya coppola ourselves a little bit Johnny, because I. [00:49:19] Speaker B: Do believe last time we said that. [00:49:22] Speaker C: That was the last of the J. H. Williams three covers. I'm pretty sure this is yeah, this. [00:49:29] Speaker A: Is the last one. [00:49:30] Speaker B: Because I remember the final corner is. [00:49:32] Speaker A: This, and I remember thinking, Kaguyosha looks hilarious. [00:49:36] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:49:36] Speaker A: Oh, man, he's so mad. [00:49:38] Speaker B: He looks so mad. [00:49:41] Speaker C: His whole eye is blue, and he's. [00:49:43] Speaker B: Just, like. [00:49:47] Speaker A: Pissed off. [00:49:47] Speaker C: He's got those crazy eyebrows. Clown looks pretty fucked up, too. [00:49:52] Speaker B: Look at. [00:49:55] Speaker C: Not he's not in his full zaylor ponytail mode because you can. [00:50:00] Speaker B: See it's kind of whispering on the sides there. [00:50:03] Speaker A: Yeah, that might be a little more. [00:50:05] Speaker B: Like classic clown looking. Yeah. And Jessica's just badass here. Look at that. Super cool. It is super cool. [00:50:13] Speaker A: Yeah, it's great. [00:50:14] Speaker B: It's the final little corner of this cover. [00:50:19] Speaker A: There is a B cover as well, which I have in front of me. [00:50:22] Speaker B: Also, this is by Von Randall. Von Randall's always good. Shit, it's Redeemer who's trying to figure. [00:50:30] Speaker C: Out which our angel name yes. [00:50:32] Speaker A: Is it Reaper Redeemer? Oh, man, David, I'm tired today. I'm sorry, listeners as well. [00:50:40] Speaker C: They don't make it easy. Those angels all have eerily similar names. But no, it's a good one of. [00:50:47] Speaker B: Mr. Redeemer old Anti Spawn himself, looking. [00:50:53] Speaker A: Good with his wings, holding a big sword. [00:50:56] Speaker B: Yeah, he's got an impressive wingspan. It's real nice. It's a real good one. [00:51:01] Speaker A: So we pop that sucker open. We got some credits here. [00:51:04] Speaker C: OOH, credits. Are these imperial credits or are these New Republic credits? [00:51:12] Speaker B: They are scorched. [00:51:17] Speaker C: Got a we got ourselves some script plot here, Johnny. [00:51:20] Speaker B: We got our main man, Sean Lewis, and then The Todd father himself, doing some additional script art is by the ever fantastic Steven Segovia, knocking it out. [00:51:32] Speaker C: Of the park, as always. [00:51:34] Speaker B: Ulysses areoli doing the colors on top of that end. [00:51:37] Speaker C: World's design doing lettering. [00:51:40] Speaker B: We done covered the covers. [00:51:42] Speaker C: The Todd father himself as the creative director. And then our man Thomas Healy is editor in chief doing the Lord spawns work. [00:51:52] Speaker B: Thomas Healy is the Lord our spawn? No, that didn't work very well at all. So here we go. [00:52:02] Speaker C: Johnny previously in Scorched the Planet Eaters are walking the Earth and turning humanity against boy, oh, boy, I love how short that is. [00:52:14] Speaker B: Man. That is just like to the short and sweet. [00:52:19] Speaker A: Short and sweet. [00:52:20] Speaker C: Man, those Planet Eaters, man, they just. [00:52:22] Speaker B: Want to eat the planet. [00:52:24] Speaker C: So we start off with a whole. [00:52:25] Speaker B: Bunch of outside a military base in New Mexico, where a whole bunch of. [00:52:31] Speaker C: A mob followers of one particular. [00:52:39] Speaker B: Public. [00:52:40] Speaker C: Persona are amassing outside of a secure area and threatening to overrun it. [00:52:47] Speaker B: Johnny there is absolutely no analog to real life in this. [00:52:52] Speaker A: Yeah, it's analog to that time where everyone said they're going to naruto run into Area 51. [00:52:57] Speaker C: They can't catch all of us. [00:52:59] Speaker B: They can't catch them all. Yeah, well, they did catch those, like. [00:53:02] Speaker C: Two guys who did actually show up and do naruto running. At least those guys had convictions. And now they've just released all this alien stuff and nobody even paid any fucking attention. [00:53:18] Speaker A: What alien stuff? [00:53:20] Speaker C: Don't you remember when they had, like. [00:53:22] Speaker B: The there were, like the whistleblower. [00:53:25] Speaker C: Yeah, there was the whistleblower. And then there were like a whole. [00:53:27] Speaker B: Bunch of conferences where they were talking. [00:53:31] Speaker C: About all of the alien intelligence that. [00:53:33] Speaker B: We have or intelligence on aliens. [00:53:37] Speaker C: And then they produced the bodies and the bodies are currently being examined by a lab in Mexico. [00:53:43] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, I did hear about that. [00:53:44] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:53:46] Speaker A: A lot of times they turn out to be mummified children, evidently. [00:53:49] Speaker B: Oh, man, that's frightening. Or in this Year of Our Lords. [00:53:57] Speaker C: 2023, they're probably just cake. [00:54:01] Speaker A: They could be just cake. [00:54:04] Speaker C: Laylin cake always makes me think of that tweet where it's the year 20, it's the year 2020, everything is cake. I reached to my wife for comfort. [00:54:15] Speaker B: And she is cake. [00:54:20] Speaker C: I would definitely be doing a cry but still eating if that were to happen. [00:54:27] Speaker A: But it's so delicious. I can't stop eating the cake. Where's my. [00:54:35] Speaker C: So? So this mob is outside this New Mexico military base and then their leader. [00:54:41] Speaker B: Shows up just looking like he's doing. [00:54:46] Speaker C: Some Green Arrow, cosplay there. [00:54:51] Speaker B: His little blue hood. He is one of the planet hoodie. [00:54:56] Speaker C: With no sleeves, no zipper or tie. [00:55:01] Speaker B: So it just always hangs loose in the front. It looks comfy, I'm not going to lie. Yeah, it's got pockets. Yeah. [00:55:09] Speaker C: But it also looks like it would. [00:55:11] Speaker B: Not do very much as far as keeping you warm. [00:55:14] Speaker A: Also, crazy way for a senator to dress. [00:55:16] Speaker B: Yeah, for real. He's telling these people, your government lies to you. They think you're idiots. And then he glowy eyes them into. [00:55:29] Speaker C: Tackling the fence and bum rushing the security guards. [00:55:33] Speaker A: If one of them there have, like. [00:55:34] Speaker B: Crazy fingers, is he like a well. [00:55:37] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:55:40] Speaker B: It looks like Senator Terminus has. [00:55:44] Speaker C: Done his sort of Planet Eater hypnosis on them. And then as they're jumping over the fence, like they're transforming. [00:55:51] Speaker B: Yeah. So he's mutating them into not quite human beings. [00:56:00] Speaker C: And then we got what looks like a cutscene from I don't remember what it was called. I was thinking of an old video game where it's kind of like StarCraft, but it's not StarCraft because it's actual warcraft. [00:56:12] Speaker B: No. Command and conquer. [00:56:14] Speaker C: Command and conquer. That's what it is. [00:56:16] Speaker A: An RTS. Those are called real time strategy games. [00:56:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:56:20] Speaker C: So we got ourselves a cutscene from. [00:56:22] Speaker B: Command and Conquer going on here. [00:56:24] Speaker C: They're overrunning a tank, they're shooting off explosives. That fence is that's a weak ass fence, johnny, look at that. [00:56:31] Speaker B: Yeah, they got right through it, man. [00:56:34] Speaker C: There's a sniper up on the roof. [00:56:36] Speaker B: The south wall's been breached. [00:56:38] Speaker C: Close ups of some of the destruction that's happening. The mob overtakes the forces, commandering weapons. [00:56:44] Speaker B: All to do Terminus's bidding. And Senator Terminus himself just, like, calmly. [00:56:50] Speaker C: Wanders through the fray. [00:56:51] Speaker A: He's like, just strolls on in. [00:56:55] Speaker B: And. [00:56:56] Speaker A: Then he strolls wonders for his reelection campaign. [00:56:58] Speaker B: Yeah, so he just calmly is walking. [00:57:02] Speaker C: He strolls and then he somehow strolls into the opening scene of Indiana Jones. [00:57:08] Speaker B: Five the Dial of Destiny. [00:57:10] Speaker C: That's how calmly he walks. [00:57:12] Speaker B: Johnny he just goes from real worlds to movie in an instant. Right? I mean, yeah. [00:57:17] Speaker A: This guy kind of looks like a Nazi. [00:57:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:57:21] Speaker C: So he's just hiding behind the door. [00:57:23] Speaker A: With the sphere of Leonidis. That's the fucking guy from 300. Sphere of longinus. [00:57:31] Speaker C: Longinus? [00:57:33] Speaker B: Is that how you say it? I don't know. Come on. [00:57:35] Speaker A: You're my biblical scholar, David. [00:57:39] Speaker C: Just because I occasionally listen to podcasts by biblical scholars doesn't mean that I know fucking anything. They haven't gotten to this yet. [00:57:47] Speaker B: Johnny not so far as I've gotten to. [00:57:53] Speaker C: Well, whatever. [00:57:54] Speaker B: Jesus killing spear, we can leave it at that. [00:57:57] Speaker A: Jesus killing spear? They have it here at this Area 51 place. [00:58:02] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:58:03] Speaker C: And Senator Terminus comes in and just. [00:58:06] Speaker B: Like, sneak attacks behind the dude and grabs him by his head and just with one hand. [00:58:16] Speaker A: That would be painful. [00:58:17] Speaker C: Just like, liquefies the dude's head just in one hand. [00:58:21] Speaker B: Crunch yeah, man. Yeah. [00:58:23] Speaker C: And Senator Terminus is very upset because all the previous planetators that came by were all killed. As. [00:58:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:58:33] Speaker A: Maybe they were going around breaking people's heads open. [00:58:36] Speaker C: People would have left them for real. For real. [00:58:42] Speaker B: And then silent scripts. [00:58:43] Speaker C: The air. [00:58:44] Speaker B: Johnny and the answer to Senator determinist's. [00:58:47] Speaker C: Question, which is who will protect you now? Comes falling from the sky. And we got Al, we got medieval. [00:58:55] Speaker B: We got monolith, we got Redeemer, we got the Scorched. Yeah. [00:59:02] Speaker C: These were the things that I read multiple times and I was very confused about it's. [00:59:07] Speaker B: A bit of clunky narration here that. [00:59:11] Speaker C: Could just be boiled down to and then the Scorched falls from the sky and want Senator Terminus to die. That's basically what it comes down to. [00:59:23] Speaker B: Pretty much. Yeah. So they don't care about an Earth for Earth people. [00:59:28] Speaker C: They just want Earth to exist. [00:59:30] Speaker B: The people on it could do whatever the hell they want. [00:59:33] Speaker C: Redeemer is like, do we kill all these attacking hordes? And medieval says, no, they've been tricked. [00:59:39] Speaker B: And then medieval does basically a cannonball. [00:59:43] Speaker C: Right into the ground. [00:59:45] Speaker A: Kathum yeah. [00:59:46] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:59:48] Speaker A: And then they're naruto running. [00:59:50] Speaker B: Yeah, they are. They are. [00:59:55] Speaker C: Medieval or not medieval. [00:59:57] Speaker B: Alan monolith. Monolith is very small right here, though. [01:00:04] Speaker A: Maybe just farther ahead. [01:00:05] Speaker B: Yeah, I guess that's probably what it is. [01:00:08] Speaker C: And they bust through a wall and Senator Terminus is there gooin himself all. [01:00:12] Speaker B: Over the like, he's, like, turning all. [01:00:16] Speaker A: Like the. [01:00:21] Speaker C: Monolith throws a big rock at him. Senator Hermanus busts up that rock with. [01:00:25] Speaker B: His tentacle arm and then incapacitates Monolith. [01:00:33] Speaker C: By wrapping some goop around his head. Then he magic eyes Al Simmons there. [01:00:42] Speaker B: With a laser beam. [01:00:45] Speaker C: And then as Al Simmons is getting laser beamed by Senator Terminus's Eyeblast, we learned that Monolith was playing possums. [01:00:54] Speaker B: Johnny monolith only playing possum. He was taking the game plan that. [01:01:02] Speaker C: Was set out in Spawn 317, which was to cause distractions. [01:01:06] Speaker B: And he was the distraction. [01:01:12] Speaker C: And then Monolith just rips the sort of viny arm bits off of his head and starts whipping Senator Terminus around by his own viny tentacle arm. [01:01:24] Speaker A: Yeah, that looks painful. [01:01:25] Speaker B: Yeah. And just punches him right through the. [01:01:28] Speaker C: Hole in the wall that they made when they entered. [01:01:33] Speaker B: Al Simmons does a does a real. [01:01:38] Speaker C: Power punch right onto Senator Terminus while he's down. And Terminus is just, like, laughing through it. He's like. [01:01:45] Speaker B: Ha. [01:01:45] Speaker C: You fool. [01:01:46] Speaker A: Looking like the curse right there. [01:01:48] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:48] Speaker C: Just a little bit like the curse with some Kirby crackle coming out of his eyes. [01:01:53] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:54] Speaker C: And then he just like senator Terminus. [01:01:57] Speaker B: Starts glowing and is projecting images of. [01:02:02] Speaker C: Things he's done and is spewing forth. [01:02:06] Speaker B: All kinds of Kirby crackle. Because he's got power, Johnny. He's got supernatural power. Who are these people supposed to be. [01:02:16] Speaker A: That we're seeing here? I guess they're people that are at this event. [01:02:22] Speaker C: Yeah, I guess they're just followers of the Senator. [01:02:26] Speaker B: Just like general people's. [01:02:30] Speaker C: General Peoples. [01:02:31] Speaker B: General Peoples, your chapter is ready. [01:02:33] Speaker C: And then Al and medieval are back. [01:02:35] Speaker B: To Beck, and they're surrounded. [01:02:39] Speaker C: Are these men? [01:02:40] Speaker B: No, they're enemies. [01:02:44] Speaker C: While Al and medieval are distracted by. [01:02:46] Speaker B: This circle of beasties they find themselves in, senator Terminus just makes his way to the chopper. [01:02:54] Speaker A: He got to the chopper. [01:02:55] Speaker C: So he's got the spear. [01:02:58] Speaker B: He's got the spear. He's got the chopper. And then a hand reaches up and grabs the chopper while it's trying to fly away. [01:03:07] Speaker A: Monolith shaped hand. [01:03:09] Speaker B: And Monolith is just like man, he's. [01:03:12] Speaker C: Just like he's trying to Steve Rogers. [01:03:15] Speaker B: It in that one Avengers movie. Yeah. [01:03:18] Speaker A: He grabs a helicopter and which one that is yeah. [01:03:23] Speaker B: And he, like, holds it against Winter Soldier. [01:03:26] Speaker A: Civil war. I think it's civil war. [01:03:27] Speaker C: Civil war. [01:03:28] Speaker B: Yeah, it's probably Civil War, man. [01:03:31] Speaker C: And then Terminus is just like, hey, why don't you just let go of this? [01:03:35] Speaker B: You're fucked. You're fucked anyway. And then he shoots forth. [01:03:42] Speaker A: That blood monster. [01:03:43] Speaker B: That blood demon looks strangely like Mandarin spawn, Johnny. You know? Does it? [01:03:53] Speaker C: It looks a little bit like Mandarin spawn. [01:03:54] Speaker B: Like, it's it's yeah, yeah, it's mouth teeth. What? [01:03:58] Speaker A: The mouth teeth look like Mandarin spawn. [01:04:01] Speaker B: Where the fuck else would teeth be, Johnny? I don't want to know. [01:04:06] Speaker A: I mean, inside a weird tumor. [01:04:09] Speaker B: Or. [01:04:10] Speaker A: Some tumors that can grow teeth or like, things like that. [01:04:13] Speaker B: Yeah, teeth and hair. Yeah. [01:04:17] Speaker C: This blood demon scares Monolith so much that he lets go of the helicopter and then he starts falling toward the. [01:04:24] Speaker B: Earth and oh, boy, he just, like. [01:04:30] Speaker A: Falls a long way. [01:04:31] Speaker C: Yeah, he falls a long way. And he just makes a nice little. [01:04:34] Speaker B: Dust cloud when he falls. [01:04:37] Speaker C: And then Monolith is dead. [01:04:39] Speaker B: Rip. [01:04:42] Speaker A: Yeah. For the fifth time. [01:04:45] Speaker C: We cut to Oregon near the childhood. [01:04:49] Speaker B: Home where she spawned, once lived. [01:04:51] Speaker C: And we got Jessica sitting outside. [01:04:53] Speaker A: They're looking for those guys going to the yeah, yeah. [01:04:57] Speaker C: We got jessica Priest's daughter and mom. [01:04:59] Speaker B: Just hanging out in the woods doing a little bushwhacking of um, and here we go. [01:05:06] Speaker C: Johnny. C, spawn's universe number. [01:05:09] Speaker B: Hell, yeah. [01:05:10] Speaker A: That's where they met in the park. And she talked about her daughter with her. [01:05:13] Speaker B: Yep, yep. [01:05:14] Speaker C: And Granny's just, yeah. Yeah, this is fun. This is fun. [01:05:17] Speaker B: And then they like, turn a corner. [01:05:20] Speaker C: And there's just yeah. [01:05:21] Speaker A: Grandma, look over here. [01:05:23] Speaker C: Devastation in the forest. Like, holy shit. [01:05:27] Speaker A: What the hell happened? [01:05:28] Speaker B: Yeah, she's never seen such an OD. [01:05:32] Speaker C: Sight or smelt such a repugnant odor. [01:05:34] Speaker B: Johnny so it's real bad. Grandma tries to tell the daughter Sarah. [01:05:40] Speaker C: To go back into the house. [01:05:43] Speaker B: Oh, no. Sarah is the mother. What's the child's name? I don't remember. I don't remember either. Jessica Jr. Jessica Jr. Well, it's too late. [01:05:57] Speaker C: It's too late because a beastie's already shown up. Johnny and we find out that beastie. [01:06:03] Speaker B: Is Chispawn, with Chiswan looking like a. [01:06:08] Speaker C: Zombie with a green version of that Senator Terminus eye going on. So Senator Terminus's eye was red. Jessica Priest's eye is now green. [01:06:18] Speaker B: So maybe there's like an anti planet. [01:06:23] Speaker C: Eater energy going through her. [01:06:26] Speaker A: Maybe we'll find out next issue. [01:06:28] Speaker B: Yeah. Did she spawn or is it Jessica Priest? But at the same time it isn't. Johnny she's got a hole in her boobs. [01:06:39] Speaker C: She's got a hole all over her. [01:06:41] Speaker A: Little spandex she's got holes all over her spandex suit. [01:06:44] Speaker B: Yeah. Her hair is wild and crazy, but. [01:06:50] Speaker C: It'S, like, contained and kind of looks. [01:06:53] Speaker B: Like it's broken her hair looks like it has broken bones in it right now. [01:06:59] Speaker C: She's all kinds of messed up because she was dead. [01:07:01] Speaker B: Now she's not dead. And she's also got a hole in one of the leather bands of her spikes on her thigh there. Johnny so she's she's had to fight her way through a lot of stuff. It's eaten through leather bands. [01:07:16] Speaker C: Tune in next time to see what's going on, who actually is. [01:07:19] Speaker A: Tune in next time. [01:07:21] Speaker C: Who is she a danger to? And we got Scorched skull to end. And we got another fan art and responding grounds here. [01:07:27] Speaker B: Johnny look at that. Look at these are all good. There's a lot of Jessica Priest action here. Yeah, I can't see the name on it. [01:07:37] Speaker C: So I don't know if this is. [01:07:38] Speaker B: Actually a connecting cover that we've seen or is coming up. [01:07:44] Speaker A: No, I think this is someone, like, sketching their own connecting covers. [01:07:47] Speaker B: It's pretty cool. That is pretty cool. [01:07:49] Speaker A: I like the top, right? The really realistic version of the scorch. [01:07:52] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, that's really cool. That redeemer looks so badass. [01:07:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:07:57] Speaker C: That gunslinger hat isn't tall enough, though. That's the only problem with it. [01:08:01] Speaker A: That's a little flat. [01:08:02] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:08:04] Speaker C: You can't fit anywhere near enough. [01:08:06] Speaker B: Knives in that thing. [01:08:08] Speaker A: No, you can fit, like, two knives, maybe. [01:08:10] Speaker B: Yeah. The she Spawn action figure photography is dope. Oh, yeah. Real dope. [01:08:19] Speaker C: That gunslinger right in the middle is pretty awesome. [01:08:22] Speaker B: Too. As always, the fan art is fantastic. [01:08:27] Speaker A: Fantastic. [01:08:30] Speaker B: I see what you did there. [01:08:32] Speaker C: And then we just get the ad for the rest of the spawn's universe's. [01:08:36] Speaker B: Titles, the Image Classics, and then McFarland's Dragons. That Dragon. I didn't get sad. It's pretty badass. Dragon it is pretty cool. [01:08:49] Speaker A: That's the Berserker dragon, I believe. [01:08:52] Speaker B: And that's scorch number 20. Johnny that is Scorch number 20. [01:08:57] Speaker A: Indeed it is short and sweet. [01:08:59] Speaker B: Yes. Pretty quick. Pretty quick. And much like I do have a favorite dog, but I know I'm not supposed to. [01:09:10] Speaker C: Johnny we should probably rate these puppies. [01:09:12] Speaker A: It's time to rate the puppies. [01:09:16] Speaker C: For reference, my favorite is Olive. [01:09:21] Speaker A: Olive? [01:09:22] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:09:23] Speaker B: She's a sweetheart. 317. [01:09:27] Speaker C: Johnny we got 317 is the first. [01:09:30] Speaker B: One we got to rate. [01:09:35] Speaker C: I think I already know. But what are your thoughts on 317? [01:09:39] Speaker B: I mean, it's just this fight has. [01:09:42] Speaker A: Gone on for like, three or four issues. It's getting a little long in the tooth. [01:09:45] Speaker B: Yeah. Ready to move on. [01:09:49] Speaker C: I would like to know more about how Cog ended up in the pit and start focusing more on that than. [01:09:58] Speaker B: I mean, I can understand wanting to give at least a sizable end to. [01:10:07] Speaker C: Omega if you're planning on killing him. [01:10:08] Speaker B: Off because he's a big guy. He's very powerful. [01:10:12] Speaker C: You don't want it to just be. [01:10:13] Speaker B: Like, oh, now he's gone. [01:10:17] Speaker C: I can get that. [01:10:17] Speaker B: But oh, boy. [01:10:22] Speaker C: This is a couple of transformations of Power Rangers end fight. [01:10:30] Speaker B: Too long. Johnny yeah, it just keeps going and going and it's just like I don't. [01:10:37] Speaker A: Quite understand what's going on with Plague and Cogliostro and everything. It's just a little confusing as well. So it's just not my wasn't my favorite. [01:10:44] Speaker B: Yeah, wasn't my favorite. David well, it wasn't my favorite either. [01:10:50] Speaker C: So what are you going to rate. [01:10:52] Speaker B: This, johnny I'm going to give it. [01:10:55] Speaker A: Two stabs to the back. [01:10:58] Speaker C: Like the little shuck shucks or two. [01:11:00] Speaker A: Big yeah, the two shuck shucks shuck shucks. Just quick. Two shucks to the back of Omega spawn. [01:11:06] Speaker B: Nice. [01:11:10] Speaker A: Like well said, it's just gone on a little too long, this fight, and ready to move on to something new. [01:11:15] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:11:16] Speaker B: Carlo Barberi's art is awesome, which is. [01:11:21] Speaker A: I don't hate it or little. [01:11:25] Speaker B: You can tell when the top father. [01:11:26] Speaker A: Starts to overextend himself or is like, maybe working on too many projects at once. [01:11:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:11:31] Speaker A: Because it starts to come a little samey. [01:11:33] Speaker C: We do know that there's a lot building up at this time, so he's probably scripting three or four different books at this one exact. [01:11:40] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:11:40] Speaker A: I imagine because this is like when we're coming up to King Spawn and everything. [01:11:44] Speaker C: So I'm going to agree with you. I'm going to give it two I'm going to give it two halves of the two halves of the security guard. [01:11:51] Speaker B: That are just like, there, he's been cut in half, but both halves are there. [01:11:57] Speaker A: He's just sitting there on a rock. [01:11:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Maybe. [01:12:01] Speaker C: Like a 2.2 for the guts that are there. [01:12:05] Speaker B: But a solid two soft 2.2. [01:12:12] Speaker C: Not a terrible way to spend some. [01:12:13] Speaker B: Time, but Jesus fucking Christ, can we just move forward? Oh, man. Right? Absolutely. [01:12:24] Speaker C: Then we got Scorch number 20. [01:12:26] Speaker B: Johnny Scorch number 20. Scorch number 20. [01:12:33] Speaker C: I feel like we're beaten up on him today. [01:12:34] Speaker B: But there's the the Todd Father's additional script. [01:12:40] Speaker C: So blatant. [01:12:41] Speaker A: I'm sorry, Tod Father we love you. [01:12:42] Speaker C: It was so blatant in this story. And just coming off the back of 317. I think if we had had any. [01:12:49] Speaker B: Other. [01:12:51] Speaker C: Classic issue before this, it wouldn't have been so bad. [01:12:55] Speaker B: But it was just like just hammered. [01:12:58] Speaker A: With the Todd Father's additional script in. [01:13:00] Speaker B: This one with the Todd hammer. Oh, man. [01:13:05] Speaker C: This one clips along a little further. [01:13:08] Speaker A: It's a little more has great art. Yeah, it's got a little got naruto running monolith. So that's good. [01:13:14] Speaker B: It's got a little more like story. [01:13:17] Speaker C: Propulsion, but also is just very confusing. [01:13:21] Speaker B: I'm hoping that as this wraps up. [01:13:24] Speaker C: It'Ll be a little clearer. [01:13:25] Speaker B: But this whole Senator Terminus arc is a little wacky. [01:13:30] Speaker A: Yeah, it's not my favorite. Seems a little unfocused. I don't know. [01:13:37] Speaker C: Yeah, I think on the whole it is better than 317, but yeah, especially. [01:13:46] Speaker B: Among the run of Scorched. [01:13:48] Speaker C: It's not a very high scorched. [01:13:51] Speaker B: No. [01:13:53] Speaker A: I'm probably going to give it two also. And I'm going to give it to monolith naruto running. [01:13:58] Speaker C: Yeah, two monolith naruto runs. [01:14:07] Speaker B: I'm also going to give it to. [01:14:13] Speaker C: I'm going to give it Indiana Jones five. [01:14:17] Speaker B: Two electric boogaloos here for the Spear of Longinus. Longinus makes it sound a little dirty, doesn't it? [01:14:30] Speaker A: Yeah, it does. He got a long gino. That guy's got one long gino, let me tell you. [01:14:37] Speaker C: Oh, boy. [01:14:38] Speaker A: At least not the sphere of Leonidis. [01:14:40] Speaker C: Because that's the guy from 300. [01:14:45] Speaker B: That. [01:14:45] Speaker C: Would have fit in with shit. Was that last 316 where it was. [01:14:50] Speaker B: The this is sponta. [01:14:53] Speaker A: Oh, we kicked him down the hole. [01:14:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:14:57] Speaker A: I mean, there are two mediocre issues of Spawn. What are you going to fucking do. [01:15:03] Speaker C: This week where we had two of them come out. [01:15:05] Speaker B: Both of them had so much like. [01:15:10] Speaker C: What the fuck is going on here that it makes up for these two. [01:15:14] Speaker B: Being kind of meh. [01:15:15] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, those were both great. [01:15:17] Speaker C: Oh, boy. There's going to be a lot to talk about in those two. Well, speaking of speaking of a lot. [01:15:28] Speaker B: To talk about, Johnny, let me tell. [01:15:31] Speaker C: You, I like to talk about people I like. I know who I like, and I think other people should like. [01:15:37] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:15:42] Speaker C: We're going to shout out some people that we know on Instagram. [01:15:45] Speaker B: And this week we would like to shout out Caleb Four. That's caleb Khaleb four. [01:15:53] Speaker C: And the zero. [01:15:54] Speaker B: And the four are numerals. And they are a Spawn fan from Tijuana. And they have dude's, like 18 years old. [01:16:03] Speaker C: And I'm pretty sure he has way more spawn stuff than I do. [01:16:06] Speaker B: It's an amazing collection that he's got there. [01:16:10] Speaker A: He's a lot of cool spawn stuff. [01:16:13] Speaker B: He's repping it, right? For sure. Yes. [01:16:19] Speaker C: So Caleb Four. [01:16:20] Speaker B: It's a cool dude. He's got a lot of cool stuff. Give him some love. [01:16:24] Speaker C: Tell him, hell yeah. That's an awesome collection you got there. [01:16:27] Speaker B: Let's see some more. Hell, yeah. And as always, Johnny, you know who's not a stinker? [01:16:38] Speaker A: Probably brian Voyle is just our music. [01:16:40] Speaker C: Brian Voil is the furthest thing away from a stinker that you could possibly get. [01:16:45] Speaker B: He's a good smeller. [01:16:49] Speaker C: He's a good musicman, too. He recently was like, I started listening to NSYNC, and I might be broken because it's good. So Brian, man, the man contains multitudes. You can find him over on Instagram. [01:17:07] Speaker B: At Brian underscore Voyals, underscore 27, he. [01:17:12] Speaker C: Posts fun things like the revelation that he likes NSYNC. [01:17:17] Speaker B: Maybe give NSYNC another shot, see what you think. What do you think about NSYNC, Gianni? I love him. I think I was more of a. [01:17:26] Speaker A: Backstreet when I'm with you. [01:17:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:17:33] Speaker A: Is that the Backstreet Boys or NSYNC? [01:17:35] Speaker C: I think that's NSYNC. [01:17:36] Speaker B: Yeah, I love NSYNC. I like Backstreet Boys. [01:17:40] Speaker A: I like NSYNC. I like a boy band, man, those are some kick ass songs. [01:17:43] Speaker B: Yeah, they were bangers straight up back. Oh, yeah. Straight up. [01:17:50] Speaker A: While you're over there, make sure to give us a follow regarding Spawn pod. We're posting pictures of our toys, pickups videos, so come check us out over there. [01:18:02] Speaker B: We show our faces every once in a while. [01:18:04] Speaker A: We do show our faces, if you're curious. While you're on the internet, if you want to drop us a line, it's regarding [email protected]. If you want to send us any questions, comments, concerns, we'd love to hear from jokes. [01:18:19] Speaker B: We'd love to hear from you. [01:18:21] Speaker A: Each week, I like to ask a different question to kind of spur people's imagination. [01:18:28] Speaker B: A prompt, if you will. Yeah. And this week, probably our favorite part. [01:18:34] Speaker A: Of the issue was the Bjorn Barons cover. So I was wondering, what are your favorite cover artists? [01:18:40] Speaker B: Is it Bjorn Barron's? [01:18:42] Speaker A: Is it puppeteer Lee? Is it Francesco Mattino? We've got so many great choices, I can't even list them. [01:18:50] Speaker C: Maybe because there's so many excellent cover artists that have done work on Spawn, you can maybe even chop it up. [01:18:57] Speaker B: Into segments, be like, of the first. [01:18:59] Speaker C: 50, this was my favorite. [01:19:01] Speaker B: Of the second 50, this is my favorite of current. [01:19:04] Speaker C: This is my favorite. Whatever. It doesn't have to be global. [01:19:08] Speaker B: I want to say right now, bjorn. [01:19:09] Speaker C: Baron's fucking knocking it out of the park every time I see one of his covers. [01:19:13] Speaker B: My shop was out of the main. [01:19:15] Speaker C: Title Bjorn Barron's cover this week, and. [01:19:18] Speaker B: I was so upset. [01:19:19] Speaker A: So good with yeah, I love that one. [01:19:22] Speaker B: Boy, it was beauty. It is a beauty. [01:19:26] Speaker A: So what are we reading next week, David? [01:19:29] Speaker C: Next week? Well, I don't know about you, Johnny, but I think I personally am going to read a couple of entries into Spawn's universe. You want to join me? [01:19:39] Speaker A: You know what? I'm going to do one better. How about two entries of mainline Spawn. [01:19:45] Speaker C: That might be too rich for my blood? I think I'm going to have to bow out on this one. No, that sounds excellent. That sounds excellent. [01:19:52] Speaker A: Two Carlo Barberi issues. One by the Tod father, one by Rory McConville. Double babaris. [01:20:00] Speaker C: There should be a word that means double that starts with A-B-I guess. Both Bhabaris. [01:20:06] Speaker A: Both Bhabaris. [01:20:07] Speaker C: Getting ahead of ourselves, johnny, two episodes. [01:20:11] Speaker A: What are the numbers? [01:20:12] Speaker C: Next week we're going to do a classic and anew and our classic is going to be spawn Main Title, spawn Number 318. [01:20:19] Speaker A: Sweet, sweet, sweet. [01:20:20] Speaker C: Very exciting. And then our new one's going to. [01:20:22] Speaker A: See where this goes after this fight appears to be over, it seems we'll. [01:20:25] Speaker C: See it's all just a locker room issue. They're sitting there. They got the towels around their neck. They're fanning themselves next half of the fucking fight. [01:20:32] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:20:34] Speaker C: They're eating little orange slices. And then our new issue is going to be main Title spawn Number 344. Oh, man, that's a good one. That's a good one, Johnny. That one is nothing but a battle. But a battle in a good way. [01:20:50] Speaker A: It's a great ending. [01:20:51] Speaker C: It's a very good because we're in that the battle for basically all of existence via the battle for the throne of Hell. Oh, man. It's like watching a Game of Risk, only it's not just your annoying cousins being dicks to each other. It's great. [01:21:11] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:21:11] Speaker C: So for next week, spawn 318, spawn 344. Looking forward to reading them with you, Johnny. So while you're traipsing around the Internet. [01:22:12] Speaker B: It'S a fun time for us and we think more people need to know about Spawn. [01:22:17] Speaker A: That's the goal. [01:22:19] Speaker B: That's the goal. That's the goal. [01:22:21] Speaker A: Spread the Spawn love. [01:22:23] Speaker B: I mean, people be spreading other things. [01:22:27] Speaker C: That nobody wants, like, without even thinking about it, make the intentional decision to spread something that will bring joy to. [01:22:35] Speaker B: You and other people, which is Spawn. Right, Johnny? [01:22:41] Speaker A: Spawn always brings me joy. [01:22:42] Speaker C: Always. [01:22:43] Speaker B: Even when it's less than even when it's mediocre. It's okay. [01:22:48] Speaker A: It's like pizza. It's still pizza. [01:22:51] Speaker C: I have once in my life had pizza that made me question the even. [01:22:55] Speaker B: Bad pizza is good pizza rule. [01:22:58] Speaker C: Johnny yeah, I've had it a few. [01:23:00] Speaker A: Times, but not very often. [01:23:02] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:23:02] Speaker C: So exceptions to the rules always exist. [01:23:08] Speaker B: But spawn equals pizza in that it is good and fun and it's a. [01:23:14] Speaker C: Good time for the whole family. [01:23:16] Speaker B: Exactly. [01:23:17] Speaker A: Just like a pizza night. Have a family pizza night and read some spawn.
