[00:00:00] Speaker A: Heaven. Hell, no one talked about them. Were they even real? They felt real. What happens when you die? Good evening and welcome to the Malibu. This is regarding Spawn. The world's the best to spawn a podcast. Yahoo. You know I did that, David. I got you laughing. You didn't even say your line. Oh, I didn't say my line. [00:01:04] Speaker B: I was waiting for your line. [00:01:07] Speaker A: It's me, your co host, John Fisher. Yahoo. Let's a go. [00:01:14] Speaker B: And I am your co host, David Williams. Johnny, what the hell's got me laughing so much? What are you doing over there? [00:01:21] Speaker A: Because duh, David, everyone's expecting a Mario impression because it's our 120th episode and everyone knows every Mario game has 120 stars. [00:01:31] Speaker B: Everybody but your co host, David Williams. [00:01:34] Speaker A: No, Mario 64. Mario Galaxy? [00:01:38] Speaker B: I thought Mario 64 had 64 stars. That's why it was called Mario 64. [00:01:42] Speaker A: No, it was on the 64. Come on. [00:01:46] Speaker B: It has a bitching soundtrack. One of my friends in high school gave me an illegal copy of it and I listened to the shit out of that. [00:01:57] Speaker A: Yeah, that's a great soundtrack. Pop some in there. Is it in public domain yet? [00:02:03] Speaker B: No, actually. [00:02:04] Speaker A: Don't. Nintendo's really strict on that shit in there. [00:02:08] Speaker B: Five years. [00:02:11] Speaker A: We'Re not even talking about Nintendo on a podcast. I swear to God we're not. Don't shut us down. Nintendo, they really are. They're really strict about their music and things like that. [00:02:21] Speaker B: I mean, I mean they gotta. They gotta protect those. They gotta protect those playing card copyrights, Johnny. [00:02:27] Speaker A: Yeah, they're very protective of their IP. Almost as protective as one Todd McFarlane. Yeah, because he's pretty protective of his IP. He's been in charge of most of it. [00:02:39] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, that was. The whole point is he wanted to have creator protections. So it's. [00:02:46] Speaker A: Yeah, because Spawn is like. It's like Star wars pre Disney sales still or I guess currently Harry Potter, unfortunately. I guess. Yeah, that'd be a fun world. I feel like that'd be a fun world for other people to play around in. I mean, even George Lucas, like Dave Filoni make Clone wars. Let other people do things. But like J.K. rowling's got like a. I was. [00:03:10] Speaker B: I would be down for like a. A television show about the. The goblins. [00:03:15] Speaker A: Oh yeah. [00:03:16] Speaker B: You know, there's definitely gonna be a talking animal show. Like. Like I'm there for it. Talking animals. Get. Sign me up. There could be a spawn of the. The Hogwarts universe. [00:03:30] Speaker A: There's probably hell spawn in Harry Potter. [00:03:33] Speaker B: But what House do you think a Hell Spawn would be part of or, or what would the houses of the Hell Spawns be? There we go. That's more important. [00:03:40] Speaker A: Al Simmons would be. [00:03:42] Speaker B: Because there has to be four houses. So what were the four houses be? There would be what? Like, I guess. I guess it would be the Malbolge House. [00:03:50] Speaker A: I thought you're saying what spawns like our spawns. Like the Scorch. What houses would they be in? [00:03:55] Speaker B: Oh, that would be Gryffindor. I think Al Simmons would be Ravenclaw because he's very smart and he likes to let people know about it and he's a bit of a jerk. Yeah. [00:04:07] Speaker A: Yeah. What about Jessica would be probably Slytherin. Maybe Griffin. [00:04:12] Speaker B: Probably. Probably. [00:04:13] Speaker A: She seems more Slytheriny. Not in a bad way. [00:04:15] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. I think she's. She's cunning. She's got that. She's got that cunning and that. That desire to win at all. [00:04:22] Speaker A: Mark would be a Huffle. Hufflepuff. Yeah. [00:04:25] Speaker B: Well, Mark. Mark. Pre loss of medieval would be a Hufflepuff. He would be a Ring Wraith post. Now we're smashing universes together. [00:04:36] Speaker A: You mean the Nazgul. No, wait. [00:04:38] Speaker B: No. [00:04:38] Speaker A: You mean the. Not Azkaban. Yeah. Dementor. [00:04:42] Speaker B: Dementor. [00:04:42] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:04:42] Speaker B: He. He could be a Dementor. Cygor. Cygor would be a Gryffindor. [00:04:48] Speaker A: Gryffindor. Yeah. [00:04:50] Speaker B: Definitely. [00:04:50] Speaker A: Cyber be a Gryffindor. Overkill would be Hufflepuff. [00:04:57] Speaker B: Yeah, definitely. Mark Redeemer. Redeemer would probably also be a Ravenclaw. [00:05:04] Speaker A: He wouldn't be Gryffindor. [00:05:05] Speaker B: No, I don't think the. The. There's a. There's a certain amount of like, public Persona ego that goes into being a Gryffindor. So like theater kids largely probably be Gryffindor. [00:05:19] Speaker A: That's why I keep saying it because I'm a theater kid. [00:05:21] Speaker B: I'm like Gryffindor. I think Redeemer would be a Ravenclaw. He. He doesn't have to be out in front. I guess stage theater people would be Gryffindors and Tex would be Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs, depending on. Okay, what about the Tick? [00:05:39] Speaker A: What about the entity that inhabits Javi's body? [00:05:42] Speaker B: Fucking Javi would be. What would Javi be. [00:05:48] Speaker A: He'd be a house elf. I don't know. [00:05:50] Speaker B: He probably. He would probably be one of the. One of the. He would just be living in the paintings. [00:05:55] Speaker A: He definitely would have gone to school because. Can't read. So. [00:05:58] Speaker B: Yeah, no, he would. He Would be. He would basically be Hagrid, just like hanging out in a shackle by himself. [00:06:05] Speaker A: Yeah, that's exactly with the dogs. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, it's J.K. rowling, George Lucas, Todd McFarlane, holders of the year and. [00:06:15] Speaker B: A bunch of other indie comic Nintendo. [00:06:16] Speaker A: Even though there's not Nintendo, but John. [00:06:20] Speaker B: Nintendo, I guess his name is. We gotta give him an interesting. [00:06:22] Speaker A: Well, I mean there's Miyamoto, but I know he doesn't do everything, but he's kind of like the grandfather now that Iwata's gone. He passed away. Rest in peace. Very sad. He's always entertaining in the Nintendo direct videos where he would talk about the stuff. He's always very excited. [00:06:39] Speaker B: Nice. [00:06:39] Speaker A: But I don't know what else. I mean, there's a lot of books and stuff that the authors obviously have control over, but who gives a fuck about a book? [00:06:47] Speaker B: Ain't nobody reading in this. The year of 2025 movies is especially rare. [00:06:51] Speaker A: This is really rare. It's like usually, you know, you get one or two and then the studio takes it away from you or. [00:06:58] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:59] Speaker A: Or they're so. It's just so hard to make. [00:07:02] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, anything. Anything now is being made with the idea of becoming a franchise so that we don't have to think for a few years. [00:07:08] Speaker A: Right. [00:07:09] Speaker B: Just. Yeah, you know, there's some good franchise. You know, I'm not, not, not poo pooing franchise. Because one particular franchise close to our hearts. Johnny, one about the Star W. Yes. Because we can't say the word war because we're too woke. Um, the Star wars franchise is very nice right now. It's very. [00:07:35] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Skeleton crew is excellent. [00:07:38] Speaker B: Holy shit. Last. The. What is this? The. The penultimate episode. [00:07:44] Speaker A: Yeah, penultimate. [00:07:45] Speaker B: Next one's. Next one's. Oh, boy. It had me hooting and hollering on the couch. [00:07:51] Speaker A: I'm a few weeks after. But maybe we'll talk about some mild spoilers for skeleton crews. So skip ahead a couple of minutes if you don't want to hear it. [00:07:57] Speaker B: Like, I guess. Yeah, I guess it's the. The one where they go back to the planet. [00:08:02] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. [00:08:03] Speaker B: So at Aten. So I can't say I know about Noah. At Aten. [00:08:09] Speaker A: You've hopefully realized his name's Smee. Right? You realize. [00:08:11] Speaker B: Yeah. Please, Please reference episode 119, where David learns. [00:08:18] Speaker A: Okay. I haven't told you yet. [00:08:20] Speaker B: You told it to me. [00:08:21] Speaker A: Oh, I did. We haven't edited yet. [00:08:23] Speaker B: Okay, well, I just edited it, which is why I remember. [00:08:26] Speaker A: Well, I haven't Listened to it yet? David, I'm sorry. [00:08:29] Speaker B: Well, you tell me that it's me and I'm like, I listen. [00:08:32] Speaker A: I listened for like 20. I listened to the first 20 minutes. [00:08:34] Speaker B: You got to the James Bond bits. [00:08:36] Speaker A: Yeah, I did get the James Bond bits. I like that. [00:08:40] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:08:42] Speaker A: Yeah. Spawns universe up there. Yeah. Skeleton Crew. Yeah. Really good. [00:08:48] Speaker B: It's fantastic. [00:08:49] Speaker A: We can spend a little more time in Skeleton Crew Detour. But yeah, it's. It started out like I was like, ah, this is. Okay, it's like kind of like Stranger Things. Like the first episodes were like, weren't my favorite thing. But then once you get like to know the kids and just their personalities can shine. And just having Jude Law as like the biggest trickster with a thousand names is hilarious. And like, it really hurts when he betrays them. It hurts. [00:09:17] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, it does. And he's done it like, well, because there was the. There was the big betrayal in the. Yeah, yeah. In the treasure room. [00:09:27] Speaker A: Tried to fight. [00:09:29] Speaker B: And then there's just. He's so cold blooded there at the end because they're, they've got. They're. They're doing a gambit to try to escape from the pirates, right? [00:09:37] Speaker A: Yeah. He just pulls a lightsaber on him. [00:09:40] Speaker B: I don't know. He just kills the guy. [00:09:42] Speaker A: Oh, that guy? [00:09:43] Speaker B: Yeah, he kills that guy. I was just like in cold blood. It was like we, we, of course we knew he was capable of it. That's. That's not in question. It's just that. Oh, shit. He actually did it. Johnny. [00:09:54] Speaker A: He talks about the Shizvinian Wolfman. Yeah, Captain. Yeah, the Wolf. [00:09:58] Speaker B: The Wolf Man. The. [00:09:59] Speaker A: The official species name is like Sin Shivian Wolfman. Now it's gonna bug me. [00:10:06] Speaker B: Nice. What planet are they from? [00:10:09] Speaker A: I don't remember the planet. [00:10:10] Speaker B: What was his mother's name? You know, there's a backstory. There's a backstory to everybody. That's my favorite bit. [00:10:16] Speaker A: Shistivannon. A Shistavanin wolfman. [00:10:19] Speaker B: Very nice. [00:10:20] Speaker A: It was one of George Lucas's least favorite original creations. It was just a Halloween mask because they needed to fill out the cantina and so they just like a couple of them are just like Halloween masks. [00:10:29] Speaker B: Nice. So. So Shistafan is the planet. Or that's. Although it's Star wars, it could either be the thing or it could be the complete opposite of the thing. [00:10:42] Speaker A: Planet Uva Prime. Okay. Shistavanian wolfman. [00:10:51] Speaker B: Very exciting. [00:10:52] Speaker A: Yeah, but he was really cool. I like the kids. Neil's great. Fern's great. K2 is great. K2 or K7. [00:11:03] Speaker B: I'm very bad with names. I think it's two. [00:11:07] Speaker A: Yeah, I know. I'm just flexing and then. [00:11:09] Speaker B: And then. And then Fern. Oh, geez. I said it right. Oh, good. [00:11:16] Speaker A: You got it. [00:11:16] Speaker B: I got it right. I did not turn into Ernest for a second. [00:11:20] Speaker A: I like when they go to the spa. Yeah, that was fun. There's a bathing hut. I've been more in Star wars as I've been playing Star Wars Outlaws again. Because it got good, David. [00:11:30] Speaker B: Oh, it got good. [00:11:31] Speaker A: I had some updates that changed the stuff that really bugged me about it. [00:11:34] Speaker B: And they heard that more. They heard that episode where you said you didn't like it. They were like, if Johnny doesn't like. [00:11:40] Speaker A: It, we better change it. And it's a lot better. I've been playing it a lot. Friend of the podcast and guest Logan Branham has also been playing nice, sharing stories about it. But it's really fun, open world and, like, really has, like, the Star wars vibes. Like, it was really cool. I was just like, walking on a street and I was like, whoa, I was gonna hit by a speeder. It just felt like I was in Star Wars. It was cool. [00:12:02] Speaker B: You know what I have yet to see in Star Wars, Johnny? Is somebody doing the. You know how in. In a Western, somebody will lay in the middle of the train tracks and have the train go over them and be fine? You never see anybody just lay down and let a speeder go over them. [00:12:19] Speaker A: Yeah, that'd be a good call. That'd be interesting to see. I think maybe the force field will, like, melt you. [00:12:24] Speaker B: I don't know. I think. I think they've used running over people as like, a way of disabling them at one point, but there's no anybody trying to. That said, it might just be too hard to film. [00:12:35] Speaker A: There was a train. There was a train scene in Solo. They could have done it. [00:12:38] Speaker B: They could have done it, but it. [00:12:40] Speaker A: Was like a mag train. It was like, way off the ground. [00:12:42] Speaker B: I have a feeling that a mag train would absolutely smush you to a thin little pancake. [00:12:48] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:12:49] Speaker B: Ran over you. [00:12:50] Speaker A: But speaking of these universes that are creator owned. [00:12:53] Speaker B: Yes. [00:12:54] Speaker A: We've got one we're talking about today. [00:12:57] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:12:58] Speaker A: And that's Spawn's universe. The new you. [00:13:00] Speaker B: The new. The new you. And we've got newest of universes, two. [00:13:04] Speaker A: Of the finest expansions of this universe, two of the finest spin offs. And it's our lucky day. Not only do we have 120 stars David, we got lucky number. So we're coming out number seven. We've got two. [00:13:14] Speaker B: Oh, hell yeah. Hell yeah. [00:13:16] Speaker A: We got rat city number seven. [00:13:18] Speaker B: We do indeed. [00:13:19] Speaker A: From October 2024. And sandwich case files number seven from October 2024. [00:13:26] Speaker B: Oh, boy. This is, this is. I think it comes around like every five weeks. Four or five weeks. It's the best. It's the best week of podcast we have in that month, Johnny. [00:13:37] Speaker A: Except when we have guests. [00:13:38] Speaker B: Except when we have guests. But regularly scheduled programming. The best week of Spawn we have. [00:13:44] Speaker A: Yeah, it is. Yeah. We got Rat City and Sam and Twitch, the two spin offs that. You know them, you love them. And we regarding Spawn, where each week we bring you two issues from Spawn's universe. Except when we don't. And this week is no different. We're bringing you the two issues that we said. Sorry, I forgot to do the intro. [00:14:01] Speaker B: We talked too much about Star Wars. You've fallen into a Yoda speech pattern. [00:14:05] Speaker A: We also talked about skeleton or fucking Harry Potter for like fucking 20 minutes. So on the Internet in 2024. [00:14:13] Speaker B: Oh, hey, Johnny. That's what we call engagement bait. [00:14:16] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. [00:14:17] Speaker B: We just now have to sit back and just wait for the comments to come in. [00:14:21] Speaker A: Yeah, we'll just put it for the image on the episode on Instagram. Let's put a picture of JK rolling with a big heart around it. Let's see what kind of engagement we get. [00:14:32] Speaker B: I, I can. I, I would imagine probably at least 60 people immediate being like, nah, that. [00:14:40] Speaker A: Yeah, what the are you guys doing? And we'll say we don't know, but we do know because we're reading. And starting with Rat City number seven, we gotta as. [00:14:50] Speaker B: As with reading. Reading as always, Johnny. We gotta start with these covers. What cover? What cover? [00:14:54] Speaker A: You peek. The COVID Oh, speaking of covers, if I can make it, man, I don't know how long the line's gonna be, but Charles Sewell's gonna be at Challengers. [00:15:02] Speaker B: Oh, nice. [00:15:03] Speaker A: For his new the Lucky Devils with Ryan Brown. [00:15:07] Speaker B: Yeah, Ryan Brown, a local. [00:15:09] Speaker A: Yeah, they're gonna be there. I think they're both gonna be there. [00:15:12] Speaker B: Probably. Ryan. Every time they. The last time they did a. Or I guess the first time they did a book together, it was about a wizard. What was it called? Oh, it's called curse words. And when the, when it started, they, they bought a 1980s van, painted the wizard from the comic book on the side of it like you do with an 80s van, and then did a, a van tour across the country to different comic Book shops to promote it. [00:15:44] Speaker A: That's awesome. [00:15:45] Speaker B: So they, they tend to do. Do togethers a lot. [00:15:49] Speaker A: Yeah. If I, if I go, what I want him to sign would be there's a Star wars book he wrote that I really like. And Light of the Jedi. I'm probably going to sign that. Or also the Crimson Rain comic that I have has the Knights of Ren on the COVID Crimson Rain was really cool. [00:16:08] Speaker B: If I see you before then maybe I'll throw some she Hulk at you because he did a great run on she Hulk. [00:16:14] Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, so I was just thinking of that because I was thinking of covers and I was thinking of challengers and. [00:16:20] Speaker B: Nice. [00:16:21] Speaker A: It's beautiful. Smell of the covers when you go in there. My comic shop is a very nice smell. [00:16:26] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. Challengers is just fucking great. [00:16:29] Speaker A: It's a classiest joint. [00:16:31] Speaker B: It's so good. And then you can step outside and walk like a block and a half and get the greasiest burgers. [00:16:39] Speaker A: Yep. [00:16:39] Speaker B: And the. Some of the best fries. Oh, man. Freaking red hot ranch. Let's get. [00:16:45] Speaker A: I got my haircut next to there. [00:16:48] Speaker B: You should get your haircut while you're eating a burger and eating a comic book you just bought. [00:16:52] Speaker A: Eating a comic book. [00:16:54] Speaker B: Eating a comic book and reading the burger. [00:16:56] Speaker A: Yeah, I can do that. [00:16:57] Speaker B: You know how it goes. [00:16:59] Speaker A: So I've got the A cover here for us, David. [00:17:02] Speaker B: The Zay Carlos. [00:17:05] Speaker A: I thought it was Brett Booth. [00:17:08] Speaker B: Oh, it is. I thought the Zay Carlos was the. Was the A. [00:17:10] Speaker A: But no, no. [00:17:11] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, it is the. The Brett Booth. I also have the A cover. [00:17:15] Speaker A: Nice. And it's Brett Boost Deviant. [00:17:19] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. And it is chock full of all the detail that we go to Brett Booth for, Johnny. [00:17:24] Speaker A: Yep. [00:17:25] Speaker B: My. One of my favorite things is food nuggets. I'm pretty sure he's used food nuggets before. [00:17:29] Speaker A: Oh, nice. They survived. I'm glad they survived into the future. [00:17:34] Speaker B: It looks. It looks a little bit like little Greggy's sister From the issue 39 in the back there with the punk haircut. [00:17:42] Speaker A: Yeah, it could be. And there's just like search lights going. It's cool. [00:17:47] Speaker B: Like you said it wrong, Johnny. [00:17:50] Speaker A: There's search lights. Is that what you want me to do? [00:17:54] Speaker B: Yeah, that's exactly what I wanted to do. We haven't. We haven't had a bit of ghost singing in a while. [00:18:11] Speaker A: Oh, I got right here, right now on dvd on Blu Ray. [00:18:15] Speaker B: Yeah. I've been mean. Oh, I need to use that. [00:18:16] Speaker A: I gave you that code. Yeah. [00:18:18] Speaker B: Yeah, I need to use that this weekend. [00:18:19] Speaker A: You have until, like, January 2026, so you got plenty of time. [00:18:23] Speaker B: All right, well, if I don't do it now, I'm going to forget about it until February 2026. [00:18:28] Speaker A: No, it's really good. [00:18:30] Speaker B: That's the way it always goes. [00:18:31] Speaker A: You should try to get Wanda to watch it. She actually might like ghosts. It's very Phantom of the Opera. [00:18:36] Speaker B: I've tried. I've tried really times. And she's. No, she's not. She's not. [00:18:42] Speaker A: I will say, if you want the best viewing experience, and this is what I did, is watch all the chapters on YouTube before you watch it, because it pays off a lot of that stuff. Stuff. Unless you just remember the chapters. I mean, it only takes like, 50 minutes to watch the chapters. [00:18:55] Speaker B: Yeah, I. I don't remember all the chapters. I just remember se. [00:18:59] Speaker A: Yes, all that. All that pays off. And actually, it's a pretty integral part of it, and I'm glad I rewatched them right before I went and saw in the theater. [00:19:06] Speaker B: They probably, you know, Johnny, they probably should have had that as a bonus material in the Blu Ray. [00:19:12] Speaker A: They do. [00:19:13] Speaker B: Okay, awesome. Good. [00:19:14] Speaker A: All the chapters are on there. Even the one where it just announces that that guy from Van Halen is singing on spillways. [00:19:23] Speaker B: The guy from Def Leppard. [00:19:25] Speaker A: It was like, okay, it sounds. [00:19:27] Speaker B: It sounds exactly the same. Is that not just the regular version? [00:19:30] Speaker A: I couldn't tell a difference. [00:19:32] Speaker B: I couldn't tell a difference at all. Could not. [00:19:34] Speaker A: But yeah, they have even have the chapter on there that just announces that. [00:19:37] Speaker B: So nice. [00:19:40] Speaker A: Yeah, they got them all on there. But yeah, search lights. Looking for the deviant. And he's on the COVID Yeah. [00:19:49] Speaker B: Very good. It's excellent. It's Brett Booth, so you got to get it. The B cover. The B cover was Zay Carlos, and it was very hard to choose this week because the Zay Carlos is badass. [00:20:02] Speaker A: Actually, I might prefer it, but I. [00:20:05] Speaker B: Kind of ruined my ability to get the whole set because Zay Carlos has been doing across a couple of the miniseries covers that are this exact same format. It's the main protagonist of the book kind of with their. Their back toward the. The viewer looking over their shoulder, just surrounded by bodies. Yeah, the. The week this Rat City came out was also the week of a gunslinger, that Zay Carlos did the exact same one. And I was like, well, of course I gotta get the. I gotta get the hobby for the booty shot. And so just figured if I got Zay Carlos, for one, I'D get Brit Booth for the other. But he has since done. I think they've since done Scorched and maybe main title. [00:20:59] Speaker A: Well, the good bus shots. [00:21:01] Speaker B: Yeah, he's definitely done Scorched because there's a Jessica Priest version of it. I think he's done the main title. [00:21:11] Speaker A: Yeah. But it's really cool. I love all, like the. [00:21:14] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. And like I said, it's the deviant staring over his shoulder at you, surrounded by a whole bunch of bodies. [00:21:20] Speaker A: Yeah. What's not to love? And David, did. You know, I'm gonna think. I'm gonna assume you didn't. I'm sending it to you right now in Discord. There was a second printing of this. [00:21:31] Speaker B: There was a second printing. [00:21:32] Speaker A: There's a third cover by Mirko Colak. [00:21:36] Speaker B: Mirko Kolak. Oh, hell yeah. [00:21:40] Speaker A: I just sent it to you in Discord. Yes. [00:21:43] Speaker B: That is. Oh, boy. [00:21:45] Speaker A: That's awesome. Like in the derelict. Like. [00:21:48] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. It's like the. It's like an anime cyberpunk cityscape, and it's got the deviant and shadows, you know, basically. Basically Batmaning. [00:22:00] Speaker A: Yeah. I love that cityscape. It's like Blade Runner. Yeah. Like something anime or like a. [00:22:06] Speaker B: Or like a William Gibson novel. [00:22:08] Speaker A: Yep. Also, congrats. They're still getting fucking second printings on issue seven. [00:22:13] Speaker B: Yeah, that's pretty great, man, because I'm. I'm enjoying these second printing covers because the. That first issue second printing cover was the one with the, like, the head display. Yeah. [00:22:25] Speaker A: Yeah, that was cool, man. [00:22:27] Speaker B: That is a great cover. Hell, yeah. Rat City getting second printing, man. [00:22:33] Speaker A: Three covers all alike. And dignity. [00:22:37] Speaker B: And fair future New York. [00:22:40] Speaker A: Where in fair Rat City. [00:22:42] Speaker B: Ah, God damn it, Johnny. It was right there. I'm bad at improv and Shakespeare. [00:22:48] Speaker A: Oh, no. [00:22:49] Speaker B: And podcasts and being smart. [00:22:53] Speaker A: We knew that. [00:22:54] Speaker B: Yeah. Or knowing what's going on in Spawn. [00:22:57] Speaker A: And knowing is half the battle. So let's dive in and try to figure out what's going on. [00:23:02] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [00:23:03] Speaker A: What's going on. What's going on is some people made this. And we've got script plot by Erica Schultz, art by Zay Carlos, color by J. David Ramos, lettering by Erica Schultz. Brett Booth. Oh, wait, we already covered the covers. I don't read the COVID artists. What am I doing? [00:23:22] Speaker B: Well, we can say the parentheses because the parenthetical wasn't on the front. [00:23:26] Speaker A: Oh. Daniel Enriquez also did it with him with the Brett Booth cover. Creative director is Todd McFarlane, and editor in chief is Thomas Healy. Previously in Rat City. An injured Quinlan has been infected by the deviant's hell spawn nanites and begins to see visions of Al Simmons. Yeah, we left off the last issue was that great issue that gave us the history of Rat City. [00:23:54] Speaker B: Yes. [00:23:54] Speaker A: Documentary. [00:23:55] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:23:57] Speaker A: Hosted by my wife. [00:24:02] Speaker B: Yes, yes. [00:24:03] Speaker A: The beautiful documentary goes if you make. [00:24:05] Speaker B: It to whatever, 2020. Shit. How far in the future is it. Is it 24 something or other? [00:24:14] Speaker A: I don't remember. [00:24:14] Speaker B: What year does this take place in? [00:24:16] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:24:17] Speaker B: I'm gonna have to find the. I'm gonna have to find the issue 121 11. 21 11. [00:24:22] Speaker A: That's what it says on the Internet. [00:24:24] Speaker B: But maybe not, because the. The. The raucous in the caucus was 2107. [00:24:31] Speaker A: Okay, so it's 2111. Takes place in 2111. I'll never forget that. [00:24:36] Speaker B: Okay, we should probably never forget that. [00:24:39] Speaker A: All right, so it's locked in my brain. [00:24:40] Speaker B: If you. If you make it to 2111, she'll be your wife. [00:24:46] Speaker A: She will. If I make it that far, I'll marry that documentary host. God damn it. [00:24:50] Speaker B: I. I believe in you, Johnny. [00:24:52] Speaker A: Yes. I love a documentary. I love a host. [00:24:54] Speaker B: Uh huh. So this. This previously on. Makes it sound like Quinlan had the worst man. I have had some terrible sicknesses that have made me see some things, but never, never visions of Al Simmons. [00:25:07] Speaker A: I don't know. One time I was. Ran a lot of Spawn when I had Covid. So maybe I was seeing visions of Al Simmons. I can't remember. Closest I could get. [00:25:14] Speaker B: The closest I would get would probably have been the night before 3:50. I had visions of Al Simmons dancing through my head. [00:25:22] Speaker A: Oh, yes. Twas the night before 3:50. [00:25:25] Speaker B: I kept. I kept. Kept being like, it's Spawn Day. But it was only five minutes later than the last time I woke up to say it was Spawn Day. Kept creeping down the stairs to see if Santa Spawn had brought us. [00:25:37] Speaker A: You kicked open the door and you're like, good boy. What day is it? And he goes, why, today it's Spawn Day. Go to the challengers and buy me the fattest copy of king of spawn. 350. [00:25:54] Speaker B: Wonderful. [00:25:55] Speaker A: But, yeah. And then at the end of that documentary about the history of New York, that neighborhood, which it was the Bronx. [00:26:04] Speaker B: It was Rat City. So a little south of the Bronx. [00:26:08] Speaker A: Okay. A little south of the Bronx, it was Rat City. That was the history of Rat City. [00:26:11] Speaker B: So along the Bowery. So like the Lower east side up. [00:26:15] Speaker A: Right, it pulled out and it was a guy watching on tv and he was the apartment next door. We cut back to quinlan fighting with Dr. Bose. Amen. [00:26:28] Speaker B: Amen. Amen. I think Dr. Bose. Dr. Bose is the higher guy. [00:26:32] Speaker A: Yeah. Dr. Bose is the higher guy. You know what I mean? He's smoking that. [00:26:38] Speaker B: There is a lot of green in here, Johnny. [00:26:40] Speaker A: There is bows and does. Yeah. Dr. Amen. [00:26:45] Speaker B: Yeah. It brings. It brings Peter out of his. His fugue deviant state, and he's like, wait, oh, Quinlan's hurt. Yeah, we also get that. That near eye torture scene with the spiky, like, right there, right next to Quinlan's eye. Good episode. Good issue, Johnny. We should read it again, too. [00:27:09] Speaker A: Yeah, let's do it. So we open on which. Exactly what it says, Quinlan. They are having visions of Al Simmons. [00:27:18] Speaker B: It starts off with the best opening. This was pure hell. [00:27:23] Speaker A: And it's classic Al Simmons with a shoelace fighting. Classic violator. [00:27:28] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:27:29] Speaker A: Pretty badass. [00:27:30] Speaker B: You're a fool, Simmons. I think you could survive. And Quillin's just standing on, like, the classic. The classic hill cliff. It's kind of like Pride Rock, only very spiky. [00:27:42] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, my God. Have you seen the clips from Mufasa? If you want to mess with my brother, you'll get the loves of my brother. Have you seen that? [00:27:52] Speaker B: I did watch that. Yes. [00:27:54] Speaker A: Oh, my God. What did you say about my brother? That's not a straight. [00:27:58] Speaker B: That's my brother. [00:27:59] Speaker A: You stay away from my brother. [00:28:00] Speaker B: Cause I say so. If you put your paws on my brother, you meet the jaws of his brother. [00:28:06] Speaker A: Those are the laws for my brother. [00:28:09] Speaker B: Where'd he go? What the heck, dude? [00:28:11] Speaker A: What the heck is that? [00:28:12] Speaker B: I don't know. That's my nephew. [00:28:15] Speaker A: Saw that movie. He's 11, and I asked him how he liked it. He was even. He's 11 and realized he was like. It was really confusing because every one of the lions looks exactly the same. I was like, that was my problem. That's the problem. You make it realistic. All the lions look the same. [00:28:30] Speaker B: Yeah, true. [00:28:32] Speaker A: Also the fact that they don't, like, dance like, it'd be so much like. I would be more interested in a Mufasa prequel Lion King. If it was 2D animated, I'd be. Yeah, I would probably have gone and saw it. [00:28:42] Speaker B: Yeah. There. He could have had his own I can't wait to be king moment. That was. [00:28:48] Speaker A: Live action. But in the live action Lion King, he just walks around because they don't dance or nothing. Because it's realistic. It's so stupid. It's, like, so stupid. [00:28:57] Speaker B: I don't want to see realistic animals. I want to see the version of animals that I can't just see normally. [00:29:06] Speaker A: Right. [00:29:07] Speaker B: I want to see a fat mouse complain about everything, but agree to everything his hot friend says and then go save children. Talking about the rescuers. [00:29:18] Speaker A: Okay. I was like, what the fuck are you talking about? [00:29:20] Speaker B: I want to watch the rescuers. God damn it. That shit is great. [00:29:24] Speaker A: You like the nudie shot that was stuck in there? [00:29:28] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, Johnny. I like trying to pause the VHS to see a grainy. A grainy set of tits in the background. [00:29:36] Speaker A: Well, they cut it out on Disney plus, so. [00:29:38] Speaker B: Ha ha, man. I also like the cat that lives at the orphanage that will do anything for a ginger snap. Ginger snaps. [00:29:47] Speaker A: The only thing I have more of an affinity for rescuers down Under. [00:29:51] Speaker B: I. I've seen Rescuers Down Under. Mord, definitely. [00:29:54] Speaker A: I liked it as a kid. We went and saw in the theaters and I remember went to McDonald's after. They had these cool, like, viewfinder things where you can see pictures from the movie. And they're really good. They're Good. Good quality McDonald's toys. [00:30:05] Speaker B: Nice. [00:30:06] Speaker A: We not like the shit they have today. [00:30:08] Speaker B: Yeah, we basically, regardless of what the dog's name is, will yell Joanna at the dogs if they're doing something they're not supposed to do. [00:30:20] Speaker A: Is that the name of the eagle? [00:30:21] Speaker B: That's. That's the name of the. The lizard. [00:30:23] Speaker A: The lizard, Right, Joanna. That's a good one. I see the original rescuers as well. I just don't remember it as well as I like the flashiness of Down Under, I guess. [00:30:33] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, it's good. It's also more Orville. Much more Orville. The Albatross. [00:30:38] Speaker A: Yes. I like Orville. [00:30:40] Speaker B: He's great. I like that they're in a little sardine can and they. [00:30:44] Speaker A: Yeah, that is pretty good detail. [00:30:47] Speaker B: Well, speaking of good detail, Johnny, I like how. How much detail is in this. The shocked face of Quinlan here on this front page. Like you can see down to like the cybernetics of their eye, just like so open with shock and awe and just, you know, got the shit scared out of them. [00:31:09] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, this is some scary shit. [00:31:11] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:31:11] Speaker A: Like stabbing the violator through the head and like they're like fighting around them. [00:31:15] Speaker B: Yeah. I would. I would shit if. If I were in any condition and this were in my head or in front, I would shit myself. Just immediately just assume that there's shit. [00:31:27] Speaker A: And then Al rips the fucking violators head off. [00:31:29] Speaker B: Yeah. Like Mal killing Malbol style. [00:31:33] Speaker A: Yep. And It. It gives the acid blood. Like a xenomorph. [00:31:39] Speaker B: Yeah, right. Splashes on the Quinlan's face and they get. They get the two face treatment and. [00:31:45] Speaker A: Then they put on a mask and go into the Paris Opera House and. [00:31:49] Speaker B: Groom, groom the young is. She is. No, she's not a soprano. I guess she would just be a diva. [00:31:56] Speaker A: I think she's a soprano. [00:31:57] Speaker B: Is she a soprano? I don't know. I don't know my registers. [00:32:02] Speaker A: I think so. [00:32:03] Speaker B: I. I know she could sing really high. That high C is something if. [00:32:10] Speaker A: Yeah. David, we all. And that was a trick. We all know that in the original story and the Broadway play, he was. Eric was like that from birth. He didn't get burned by acid. Yeah, but in some movie versions, they change it. So he's burned by acid. [00:32:24] Speaker B: Well, yeah, because wasn't the original story that like, he was so ugly when he was born that his mother was like, ah, no. And left him with the circus? [00:32:35] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. [00:32:36] Speaker B: Or like threw him away in the circus, found him. [00:32:38] Speaker A: Yep, pretty much. Then he worked for like the King of Persia, built some labyrinths, did a bunch of crazy shit. [00:32:49] Speaker B: And then the first person to fall in love with the him that was inside and not the face, he just completely ignored and was like, I want to get this young lady here. And this lady's just been like, I've been love with you for 20 years and what are you doing? [00:33:06] Speaker A: Who's that? [00:33:08] Speaker B: The lady who helps. [00:33:10] Speaker A: Oh, Madame Gary. [00:33:11] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:33:12] Speaker A: Yeah. I never thought about them being in love. I never thought about. [00:33:15] Speaker B: Well, no, she. She absolutely loves him. [00:33:17] Speaker A: Is this with the sequel? This from Love Never Dies? [00:33:21] Speaker B: Well, no, like, why would she. Why would she do what she does for him if she wasn't absolutely enamored with him? [00:33:27] Speaker A: She's a single woman too. [00:33:30] Speaker B: Yeah, but she's. She's like. She's like the. The power of the opera. So she could. She could have whoever she wants. Jim. [00:33:38] Speaker A: That's true. [00:33:39] Speaker B: Those. The owners of the opera house can't tell her what to do. She's the boss. [00:33:45] Speaker A: Yeah. So Quinlan gets acid face in the vision. [00:33:50] Speaker B: Yeah. And then as. As their face is melting off, we get a. Don't worry, Quinlan will protect you. And there's just giant Peter as the deviant and giant Rhys just engulfed in flames, staring down and smiling at them. [00:34:07] Speaker A: Yeah. And Rhys has got his spawn. Glowing spawn markings that he had like right before he died. [00:34:15] Speaker B: Yeah. And the deviant's teeth are just all like jagged and don't fit together. Ah. [00:34:21] Speaker A: And we cut back out of the vision. And we're to use storage. Storage facility. [00:34:26] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [00:34:27] Speaker A: And I've always wanted to live in a storage facility. I don't like small spaces. It seems interesting. [00:34:34] Speaker B: I always. I always wanted to have, like, when I was little, I was always like, I want to grow up and have an apartment that is literally the size of me, and I can sleep and shower and eat all in the same place. [00:34:49] Speaker A: Japanese. Like sleeping pods, basically. [00:34:51] Speaker B: Yeah. Like the apartments in Fifth Element. [00:34:55] Speaker A: Yeah. That's all you need, baby. [00:34:57] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:34:58] Speaker A: But, yeah, there's a storage facility that has been converted to, like, some kind of. Looks like a makeshift medical bay. [00:35:05] Speaker B: Yeah. And Quinlan is laying on the bed, you know, an obvious, obvious torment. And Peter is next to them, just. Man, Peter looks wrong out. Look at this guy. [00:35:20] Speaker A: Yeah, he does. He looks worn out. He looks like he just feels bad because he knows that he did it to them. [00:35:28] Speaker B: Yeah. But also that just, you know, like, he hasn't gotten a chance. Like, he was exhausted, but he can't. He knows that he can't rest while Quinlan is going through this. [00:35:39] Speaker A: So he's like, I'm looking for some antibiotics. And he starts searching through everything. [00:35:43] Speaker B: Yeah. Because Quinlan has a very, very, very high fever. And while he's looking. While he's looking around, Quinlan is narrating the opening reading. [00:35:55] Speaker A: Yes. Heaven and Hell. Were they even real? They felt real. [00:36:00] Speaker B: And then. And then they start, like, choking on their own. On their own saliva and, you know, their. Their heart. Their heart stops. So we get. [00:36:11] Speaker A: She starts, uma Thermian here. [00:36:12] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. So we get a. A little Pulp Fiction action going on with the big needle rights to the heart. [00:36:20] Speaker A: Do you have a felt. Felt pen? A fucking magic marker? A felt pen. I just saw that scene on Pluto tv, and a weird thing happened. It got to the end of the scene. It was supposed to go to a commercial, obviously, but it, like, glitched out and then went back to the same section of the movie and played it again, so I didn't watch it anymore. I would have watched probably the rest of the movie, but I switched to something else. [00:36:43] Speaker B: That's where you get Pluto TV for getting rid of the Godzilla channel. [00:36:46] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:36:47] Speaker B: Johnny's going elsewhere to another Pluto TV show. You. [00:36:54] Speaker A: I think I ended up watching either Mission Impossible 3 or Kill Bill 2. [00:37:00] Speaker B: Mission Impossible 3? Is that the one where it's Seymour Hoffman? Oh, okay. [00:37:06] Speaker A: Oh. [00:37:06] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:37:07] Speaker A: It's a really intense one. [00:37:08] Speaker B: That movie would not have been as good without Philip Seymour Hoffman. [00:37:12] Speaker A: No, I mean, he makes it. [00:37:13] Speaker B: It's. He turns Such a ridiculous premise and, like, motivation for what he's doing into something frightening. It is amazing. [00:37:25] Speaker A: It's very much a J.J. abrams joint. It's very flashy, very fast moving, but, yeah, not a lot of substance. [00:37:33] Speaker B: Sorry, J.J. yeah, well, you know, it gets you in the door, doesn't it? [00:37:39] Speaker A: Sure does. [00:37:39] Speaker B: You watched it again? [00:37:41] Speaker A: No, it's good. I like it. [00:37:43] Speaker B: Yeah, it's good. It's good. [00:37:44] Speaker A: J.J. abrams movies are great. When you're watching it, which is what you kind of think about him later, you're like, huh, Whatever. It was still fun. Like, usually it doesn't. Only a couple times, like, I think, Star Trek Into Darkness and Rise of Skywalker, the bad parts, like over outweigh the good. But like all those other movies, like, they're like Super 8, Star Trek, Force Awakens, Mission Impossible 3, the propulsion. And the movie is good enough that even the wonky shit that he obviously doesn't care about doesn't bug me as much. [00:38:16] Speaker B: Yeah, they're entertaining. And there's nothing wrong with that. [00:38:20] Speaker A: Nothing wrong with that. Does the Pulp Fiction slam right on. [00:38:24] Speaker B: Their heart, and then as he does, the nanite bandage falls off of Quinlan's arm and goes shloop doopa doop, right back into Peter. So I wonder, Johnny, if this means that a little bit of Quinlan is now in Peter. Because if those nanites were in Quinlan, doing a whole bunch of stuff, and then they swoop back into Peter, I wonder if he's gonna have a special connection to them at some point. [00:38:51] Speaker A: That's a good call. And it does, like, a zoom in on it going back in. So it might be important. [00:38:55] Speaker B: Like, maybe, maybe. Maybe, Johnny. Maybe at some point, Quinlan will be, like. Will be able to transmit images from their cybernetic eyes to Peter via, like, Bluetooth in the nanites. [00:39:11] Speaker A: Kb. The girl's name is KB On Skeleton Crew. [00:39:15] Speaker B: Kb. Oh, with the visor. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, boy. [00:39:20] Speaker A: I said K2. K2. So is fucking Cassian Andor's droid. [00:39:25] Speaker B: No, it's just K7 is the Letha. [00:39:30] Speaker A: K7. Letha. No, it's just that Quinlan's, like, Augment thing reminded me. [00:39:35] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:39:36] Speaker A: That I got the name wrong. [00:39:38] Speaker B: You know what? I. I agreed with you because I'm bad with names. [00:39:42] Speaker A: I know. I knew I could get away with it, but I wanted to keep myself right. We had enough errors in the last episode that we said on Mike that I want to try to keep it as little as possible. [00:39:52] Speaker B: Johnny, people come to us for the news. We got to be more Stringent about it. Goddammit. [00:39:56] Speaker A: The double whammy of the Skeleton dance being a Disney cartoon and Oswald's girlfriend not being Wilhelmina just makes us lose all credit. [00:40:07] Speaker B: But Hortensia, Hortensia the cat is Oswald the rabbit's girlfriend. [00:40:12] Speaker A: Okay, now we know. And Skeleton Dance is not by Max Fleischer. It's by Disney. [00:40:17] Speaker B: It was a Disney silly symphony. Yes. Although those, those Betty Boop cartoons still kick ass. [00:40:24] Speaker A: Sure. So we cut. No, we don't cut. Yeah, well, she was. Yeah. Cooling gas awake. And then we cut. [00:40:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:40:30] Speaker A: Back to PTS. [00:40:33] Speaker B: PTS. Yeah, we got Dr. Bose and one of, I guess Dr. Amen's replacement. [00:40:40] Speaker A: Yeah, some lady. [00:40:42] Speaker B: Because, because Dr. Dr. Amen is dad. We think this. Well, so we don't, we don't know what happened to him. We just know that Dr. Bose got his hands on him back at PTS. And now that I'm thinking about it, I was gonna bring up this cryo chamber in the background that just kind of sits there and we, we see it throughout the issue. I was thinking that's gonna be important. I'm gonna put. If I were a betting man, I would put my money on Dr. Amen being this not quite human shaped thing in the cryo chamber. [00:41:18] Speaker A: What? [00:41:20] Speaker B: Right. Because at the last issue we see Dr. Bose. [00:41:26] Speaker A: Oh, right. [00:41:27] Speaker B: Hello, Eamon. And like going at him with a scalpel and this cryo chamber. They wouldn't, they wouldn't draw the cryo chamber if it weren't going to be important. [00:41:34] Speaker A: Yeah, right. [00:41:35] Speaker B: I'm wondering if Haman's in there. [00:41:37] Speaker A: Yeah, that's a good call. [00:41:38] Speaker B: But yeah, Dr. Bose and this other doctor, you know, they're, they're reviewing one of the other veterans that they're trying to get their, their money out of again. And Dr. Bose is. Dr. Bose does not like body art or decoration. He is a minimalist. He says we're gonna have this clean cyberpunk aesthetic. Don't be putting these stickers on your $17 million for this one prosthetic arm. And this is how he treats my work. [00:42:13] Speaker A: And she, the other doctor, Dr. Nomit. Nomets. [00:42:17] Speaker B: Nomics. [00:42:18] Speaker A: Nomics. She turned Peter and Quinlan and like, how can you not find her? That deviant bastard has millions of dollars of tech in him. [00:42:30] Speaker B: Yeah. He can't just disappear. [00:42:34] Speaker A: She wasn't looking for quinlan yet, but doctor. Dr. Bose tells her to look for Quinlan because. [00:42:39] Speaker B: And Quinlan's previous, previous employee of pts. So PTS is definitely having everybody give a biometric sample at the beginning of employment. Definitely you Know that if you go work for pts, you're gonna be giving them one of basically every fluid you have for them to employ you. [00:43:04] Speaker A: Yes. And so they're gonna look for Quinlan and Peter. [00:43:08] Speaker B: Yeah. And Dr. Bose is like, I gotta go. I gotta go tell the. The chairman that we lost our property. [00:43:17] Speaker A: Yes. [00:43:18] Speaker B: It's. Or lost our quarry. Sorry, I was. I was. I was putting a little bit more nastiness on Dr. Bose there than was actually put in the story. Although he most definitely thinks of these two as his property. [00:43:35] Speaker A: Definitely. [00:43:36] Speaker B: Definitely. Then we're back at this. We're back at the storage facility. Johnny. [00:43:41] Speaker A: And Quinlan kind of plays it close to the chest and doesn't tell Peter about the crazy visions. He doesn't want to scare him. [00:43:49] Speaker B: And Johnny, this is the. This is the first appearance of the bruise bandage on Quinlan's chest. And. Oh, this is the gnarliest bruise, Johnny. [00:44:03] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, yeah, slam that. [00:44:05] Speaker B: Why did. Why did say Carlos have to be so good at doing the art on that? Because if every time I see it, I'm a little bit like, poop. [00:44:13] Speaker A: That's gotta hurt. And they find out why they're in this storage facilities because Reese used to own it, and he turned into apartments during the 04 housing crisis. 2104. [00:44:26] Speaker B: 2104. [00:44:27] Speaker A: See, I could have fulfilled my dream of living in a storage unit. [00:44:31] Speaker B: Yeah, you could have. You could have just, you know, lost your home. [00:44:36] Speaker A: Yeah, sounds great. [00:44:37] Speaker B: Yeah. And then apparently the city found out what he was doing and shut it down. But so, like, Rhys still had all of this, or all of these people's materials and, like, possessions were still in the storage facility, and Reese trying to make it so he could get their stuff back to him. And then Peter. Peter offers Quinlan some of the gruel he has made. [00:45:03] Speaker A: Says it looks edible. They say, yeah, and then. [00:45:08] Speaker B: And then we get a little. Quinlan makes a little. Little joke about Rhys must have been a boy Scout. And then we get three panels of Quinlan being like, no, yeah, I fucking read his file. He weren't no boy Scout. [00:45:23] Speaker A: It shows the Reese and Peter's team just, like, in the middle of, like, a fucking Nintendo video game. Like fucking Contra or something. [00:45:32] Speaker B: Yeah, just. Just on, like, a catwalk above a. Like a warehouse fire surrounded by bodies and viscera. [00:45:46] Speaker A: Just executing dudes. [00:45:48] Speaker B: Yeah. And then Quinlan says, but it's rude to speak ill of the dead. Ooh, Johnny. Shit. Maybe. Maybe the cryo. Maybe the cryo tube is. Maybe the cryotube is Reese. [00:46:04] Speaker A: It could be because it's probably more likely, actually. [00:46:08] Speaker B: Oh, geez. Especially with that it's rude to speak ill of the dead bit. That's what. Oh, man. And I. We know, we know. Erica Schultz chooses her words very carefully, Johnny. So. [00:46:18] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:46:19] Speaker B: And then, you know, they just. Quinlan and Peter just kind of have a quiet, awkward, sad, quiet time. [00:46:28] Speaker A: Yes. When they miss Rhys. [00:46:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:46:31] Speaker A: We get the explanation of why they couldn't find them. [00:46:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:46:34] Speaker A: And it's because while Peter's nanites were on Quinlan, they were hidden from PTS's satellite scans. [00:46:42] Speaker B: Yeah. And then we cut to the doctor nomics standing over a cool, like, hologram map of the city, and they're just like. And they find this little beaker that pops up for Quinlan. It just goes boop. And Dr. Novix is like, yes, there they are. [00:47:05] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:47:05] Speaker B: This, this, these evil shadows on her, on her face, Johnny. Oh, boy, she is hungry for some destruction, this Dr. Nomics. [00:47:15] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:47:16] Speaker B: And she immediately rushes out and it's like, Dr. Bowes, I have good news for you. And I found them. Found Quinlan, Wally. And then Dr. Bose is just like, good work. I love this. I love this little. Basically, the Two panels of Dr. Bose's face are the same thing. The only thing that changes is, like very small movements of the eye. And it's just. Oh, it is chilling how effective that is. [00:47:48] Speaker A: Yeah. He just yells, get a security team in that location. But yeah, someone zaps his eye. [00:47:59] Speaker B: No, someone like, that's. That's him. He's moving his head. It's a light trail. [00:48:06] Speaker A: Yeah. Someone interrupts him, is like, belay that. And it's old Chairman and it's like a hollow projection doing his Darth Sidious action. [00:48:13] Speaker B: He's got. He's got a little skeets. [00:48:19] Speaker A: Like a little floating joy that projects him. [00:48:22] Speaker B: Yeah, a little floating droid. And it's the Chairman saying to say. [00:48:26] Speaker A: He'S got a little skeet laugh and then not explain it. [00:48:29] Speaker B: So I'm assuming comic book people are gonna. Gonna understand that. So. So the superhero Booster Gold was just an idiot who wanted to be a superhero, so he stole the time traveling power suit of a future superhero and goes way back into the past or our contemporary times and uses the future technology to be a superhero. And part of the costume is a little droid named Skeets that floats around and it's basically his. His Jiminy Cricket. [00:49:03] Speaker A: Okay, well, there you go. [00:49:05] Speaker B: Now there are Skeets. His skeets. [00:49:07] Speaker A: Sorry, his skeet is floating around. [00:49:13] Speaker B: Oh, boy. That's this thing in that kind of book, Johnny. [00:49:18] Speaker A: No, it's not. We find out the Chairman's still in Switzerland, but he's never too far away. [00:49:24] Speaker B: Yeah, never, never too far away to not know what's going on. That means he's a micromanager. [00:49:31] Speaker A: Yeah, no one likes a micromanager. [00:49:33] Speaker B: Fuck that. And he wants to introduce them to his newest assassin, Victoria Dashiell. Dashiell. Dashiell. [00:49:41] Speaker A: Dashiell. [00:49:42] Speaker B: I don't know. [00:49:43] Speaker A: That sounds cooler. Yeah, it's probably Dashiell though. [00:49:47] Speaker B: Yeah. And she's got like, like a quilted vest and what looks like a lightsaber. [00:49:55] Speaker A: Yeah, she's pretty badass. [00:49:56] Speaker B: Purple hair. Oh, man. [00:49:59] Speaker A: And crazy cybernetic sith eyes. [00:50:02] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. They're like cybernetic and gold. It's wild. He says that she'll be his eyes while he's away. And so I'm assuming that means that he's going to tap into these eyes and see what he wants to see. And then, you know, Dr. Nomek says, we found Quinlan, Wally and the DVD. [00:50:29] Speaker A: Yeah, one might say she has a golden eye. Golden eye. Try to get that in there. [00:50:36] Speaker B: Two weeks in a row with a golden golden eye. [00:50:41] Speaker A: My brother got me a book about the making of goldeneye for Christmas. [00:50:45] Speaker B: Hell yeah. [00:50:46] Speaker A: The goldeneye, the video game. [00:50:48] Speaker B: Video game, yeah. Yeah. [00:50:49] Speaker A: It's really interesting. [00:50:50] Speaker B: Nice. You finished it yet or are you still. [00:50:53] Speaker A: I'm like halfway through. [00:50:54] Speaker B: Hell yeah. That's always. It's always fun learning. [00:50:57] Speaker A: It's a series that I didn't know existed called Boss Fight Books. And they just do books. Deep dive. Each book is a deep dive on the making of a video game. There's like, oh, hell yeah. So if you ever have a gamer in your life, you're looking for a good, unique gift. Look up Boss Fight books. They've got them on like Earthbound, Majora's Mask, Knights, the Old Republic, like, name it. They almost have a lot of the big ones. So nice. It's a surprising and fun thing to get. [00:51:21] Speaker B: Hell yeah. [00:51:22] Speaker A: But it's just funny because the James Bond game was made by like eight nerds who had no idea what they were doing in a small town in England. [00:51:29] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:51:30] Speaker A: And it's just crazy how it turned out. [00:51:32] Speaker B: I mean, sometimes the passion sometimes makes up for the experience in a lot of ways. Do you think maybe, Johnny, they'll eventually write one about the best video game of all time? Leisure Suit Larry. Wet Dreams don't dry. [00:51:50] Speaker A: I hope so. I'd read that one. I read that just for the drafts that got them to that title. Leisure Suit Larry. Wet Dreams Don't Dry. [00:52:03] Speaker B: Oh, boy. Oh, okay. [00:52:07] Speaker A: The best title. That's probably the best video game title. I don't know if you're gonna beat that. [00:52:11] Speaker B: We should probably play it at some point, Johnny. [00:52:13] Speaker A: Oh, God, no. [00:52:15] Speaker B: We'll start a Twitch stream just so that way. [00:52:18] Speaker A: Oh, no, we would be. [00:52:21] Speaker B: We would be banished as pornographers, wouldn't we? [00:52:24] Speaker A: I think so. I think they would shut it down. [00:52:28] Speaker B: Oh, we'd have 1 million moms after us, Johnny. [00:52:31] Speaker A: Yeah, then I'd have to, like, admit, like, my mom's like, what have you been up to? Like, well, I'm just on Twitch playing Wet Dreams Don't Dry. We like, that's how I get famous. And it's like, we've come notice that. And I'm just so ashamed. [00:52:46] Speaker B: I would never be ashamed, Johnny, for. [00:52:48] Speaker A: Getting famous playing Leisure Shoot, Larry. I'd be a little ashamed. But I take the money, I take subs. [00:52:55] Speaker B: I know myself well enough that I feel myself, that I. I come off. I'm not great at very first impressions. I can always feel a kind of, oh, shit, what is with this guy? And there's usually. There's usually a point where I'm like, okay, I know I've got them. I've got them here. I think that the I've got them will come later if I have to say, hey, I'm the guy who plays Leisure Suit Lair. [00:53:23] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:53:25] Speaker B: I might never actually get them, but I'd never be embarrassed about it. [00:53:29] Speaker A: Okay, well, that's good because I did. [00:53:32] Speaker B: That with my friend. [00:53:33] Speaker A: Do you know there's another video game called Goldeneye that was released in like 2004 or 5. [00:53:38] Speaker B: Okay. [00:53:39] Speaker A: That they just made up a character who had a golden eye. It like had nothing to do with the movie. It said James Bond in it. But they just like. Just to like rip off the name Goldeneye so they could call a game Goldeneye. They just made up a new character named Goldeneye. [00:53:53] Speaker B: Oh. Because I guess it was originally called 007 Goldeneye, wasn't it? [00:53:57] Speaker A: Yeah, this one was called Goldeneye Rogue Agent. Okay. [00:54:01] Speaker B: Yeah. So. Because, I mean, that's. That's where they get you. It's like putting a V. Technically, the. [00:54:05] Speaker A: Name of the video game is GoldenEye 007. [00:54:08] Speaker B: Okay. [00:54:09] Speaker A: Is the official name. [00:54:11] Speaker B: Okay, well then that's why you could. Yeah, I mean, that's. That's rough. [00:54:16] Speaker A: I mean, it was made by ea. Like they had the James Bond's license, but it was just like a really shitty cash grab. It's Also just a shitty game. [00:54:23] Speaker B: I mean, that's what they get for having to be a cash grab. Where's the integrity, Johnny? The integrity of nerds in England who don't know what they're doing? [00:54:33] Speaker A: Those are the ones. [00:54:34] Speaker B: The. [00:54:36] Speaker A: Has the golden eyes. [00:54:37] Speaker B: Yeah. But the, the nerds in rat City in 2111, they know exactly what they're doing because as a little show of force, this hologram that's Skeets is projecting of the Chairman reaches over, grabs a vial of blood and crushes it. Johnny. This hologram, this man can remotely interact with physical objects. Holy. [00:55:02] Speaker A: Pretty crazy. [00:55:03] Speaker B: That's. That's so frightening. That scares me. And so then, you know, we cut from there back to the storage facility and Quinlan's feeling a little better there. They're up at least. And Peter's like, hey, I know you said you needed a new computer system. There's some stuff here. You'll have to fix it though. And then, and then Quinlan shows their. Their sort of retro sensibilities where they're like, this is ancient. I must build with it. [00:55:36] Speaker A: But I'll give it a try. It's just a pile of like eyeballs and like a fucking old printer. [00:55:43] Speaker B: Yeah. And what looks like. It looks like a. Like maybe a. A keyboard based musical instrument in the back in the middle there. [00:55:52] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:55:53] Speaker B: Oh, man, that's. We get to do that something. The digging through a pile of junk and making something awesome out of it. You know, like all the, all the great. All the great 80s kids movies had in them. [00:56:06] Speaker A: Like Skeleton Crew had it. [00:56:08] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Or like with the trash crabs. [00:56:13] Speaker A: Love that trash crab. [00:56:14] Speaker B: Yeah, the trash crab was great. It almost ate him, Johnny. [00:56:19] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. Iron Man 3. [00:56:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:56:22] Speaker A: The best MCU movie. [00:56:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:56:24] Speaker A: Boom. [00:56:25] Speaker B: I'm. I. You're not going to hear a disagreement from me at all. It's so good. [00:56:31] Speaker A: It is. [00:56:32] Speaker B: Trevor. [00:56:33] Speaker A: Trevor Slattery. [00:56:36] Speaker B: Trevor somebody. Oh, boy. [00:56:41] Speaker A: And that ends the issue with a little. [00:56:42] Speaker B: Yeah, it does. Little skull, little Scully. And then we got the new generations, new stories, new use. I put extra S's in there, didn't I? New use. That's. That's the Chicago coming out. [00:56:58] Speaker A: It is, yeah. It's just the ads for all the spin offs. We got the Salmon Twitch we're about to cover. Next we got violator number two. [00:57:04] Speaker B: Nice. [00:57:05] Speaker A: Spawn kills. Spawn kills. Every spawn. Number four. Very spawn origins collection. Still only 9.99. [00:57:14] Speaker B: Yeah. Still, it's a great price. The classic Image Classics ad. A book for every reader, Johnny. That's what they say. [00:57:23] Speaker A: And then there's the Music Maniacs. [00:57:27] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:57:28] Speaker A: Which we already discussed, like, four times. [00:57:30] Speaker B: Yeah. Like, I like the Alice Cooper figure, Johnny. It's good. I listened to a lot of Alice Cooper in middle school. [00:57:39] Speaker A: That's cool. It's like the algorithm must have heard us talking on my phone because it showed me, like, a clip of, like, the Eddie Animatronic they have nowadays. It's, like, crazy. [00:57:49] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:57:49] Speaker A: I don't know if this is a guy in a suit or, like, what it is. Yes. [00:57:52] Speaker B: There's a. There's one point where they crashed, like, a replica World War I fighter plane on the. On the crowd. [00:58:00] Speaker A: That's insane. [00:58:01] Speaker B: Yeah. Because they sing a lot about. They sing a lot about World War I. [00:58:08] Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. There they are. [00:58:11] Speaker B: Yeah. Very good. That's. That's Red City number seven, Johnny. [00:58:16] Speaker A: Lucky number seven. [00:58:17] Speaker B: Lucky number seven. I'm. I'm here. I'm here. Hopefully we get to cover issue of Rat City 777, because that's how long it needs to run, at least. How old would we be when the 777th issue of Rat City came out? [00:58:34] Speaker A: Really old. [00:58:36] Speaker B: Let's do some back of the envelope math here. So let's just assume that they can get it out every month. So that's 12 a year. That's 64.75 years, Johnny. We're gonna have to. If Jimmy Carter can live to 100, Johnny, by God, we can. We can keep the people in spawn for 65 more years. [00:58:57] Speaker A: Okay, let's do it. [00:59:00] Speaker B: RIP Jimmy Carter. [00:59:14] Speaker A: You're not missing Hoda's copies. Last day on the Today show to record this. [00:59:18] Speaker B: Really? I'm sorry, Johnny. [00:59:21] Speaker A: I love the Today Show. It's one of my deep, dark secrets. [00:59:24] Speaker B: I haven't seen the Today show in a very long time. [00:59:29] Speaker A: It's not stupid. [00:59:30] Speaker B: I just don't have the TV on in the mornings. It's. I listen to the radio instead. [00:59:35] Speaker A: I just like. I don't know. I like the Today Show. [00:59:39] Speaker B: That reminds me of. That's not a. That's not an elitist jab. Sorry about that. I know it sounded kind of. It felt like it as I was saying it. [00:59:48] Speaker A: That's not elitist. I watch it over the antenna, Dave. It's like, the least elitist way to watch a TV show. [00:59:53] Speaker B: But, like, my. My thing is it takes one push, one push of one button to turn on the radio. But to turn on the TV and to turn it to a specific channel, that's at least four pushes of a button. And it takes my TV, like, 12 seconds to turn on. So it's just much more immediate to get to the radio. [01:00:13] Speaker A: See, I. I'm a man of leisure in the mornings. I work at night. So I get to wake up, have my four beverages, My water, my orange juice, my Diet Coke and my coffee, you know. [01:00:23] Speaker B: And do you heat that Diet Coke up before you have it? [01:00:25] Speaker A: No, no. God no. And then I have a leisurely breakfast. So I like to put on the Today show and leisurely start my day. It's one of the advantages of working at night, I guess. Except for the days you make me record I gotta wake up at like 7:30 in the morning and try to eat something. [01:00:41] Speaker B: Well, Johnny, I mean, you don't have to talk to me about Spawn. I'd prefer that you do. [01:00:47] Speaker A: But I have to. I must. And I must talk about Sam and Twitch. Number seven. [01:00:55] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. Oh boy. Johnny Big. Some big things in this issue. [01:01:02] Speaker A: Some big things. Some confusing things. [01:01:04] Speaker B: Some confusing things. But this is the. The penultimate issue to this arc, this specific arc. And so there's. There's a lot of man, there's a lot of stuff being revealed. [01:01:18] Speaker A: A lot of reveals. Oh, you're gonna have to help me figure it out, David. I was confused. [01:01:25] Speaker B: Well, let's. Let's hope it makes as much sense now as it did last night. Okay, so. Well, we gotta. We gotta start with the covers. Johnny, how many covers were there for this? Were there two covers? I think. [01:01:37] Speaker A: Let me double check. [01:01:39] Speaker B: I mean, there. There are two names in the credits, so I'm going to assume there are two of them. And I do remember it being very difficult to choose between the covers this particular week. [01:01:51] Speaker A: There are two covers. [01:01:53] Speaker B: Mm. [01:01:55] Speaker A: Yep. So the first cover. Cover A, it's the one I have, the Fede Melee. Fede Melee. It's like a kind of black and white Sam and twist. Just like chilling an alley. [01:02:07] Speaker B: Yeah, it's like a black and white watercolor, which is. It's beautiful. It's a beautiful cover. [01:02:13] Speaker A: Yes. [01:02:13] Speaker B: Holy crap. [01:02:14] Speaker A: Sam Smokin. Twitch is just locked in. [01:02:17] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:02:18] Speaker A: Pretty classic. [01:02:19] Speaker B: Good. [01:02:19] Speaker A: Great shot of the boys. [01:02:20] Speaker B: Yeah, Sam's got his. Sam's got his. His gun at the ready. [01:02:26] Speaker A: They're going in. [01:02:28] Speaker B: It's absolutely beautiful. [01:02:30] Speaker A: Yeah, it's really nice. Like it a lot. [01:02:34] Speaker B: Yeah. Standing at the mouth finale. And then cover B is Raymond Gay and has the boys in like a basement dungeon looking at body with a bag over its head. [01:02:53] Speaker A: That was really cool. [01:02:54] Speaker B: Just serious and gritty. Oh, man. [01:02:58] Speaker A: It's like something out of seven or so. [01:02:59] Speaker B: Yeah, it's It's a really good cover too. It's. It only. It only lost the. The choice this week because the Fede Melee is just beautiful. [01:03:15] Speaker A: Yeah, I like the little apparatuses. It looks like it could be like a. Like an early 2000s Todd McFarlane playset. [01:03:23] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:03:23] Speaker A: Because little details. [01:03:25] Speaker B: Or it could be an 80s Clive Barker film. [01:03:28] Speaker A: Yeah. Looks pretty cool. I mean, I kind of like that one better. I don't know. I like them both. Yeah, see, I don't really pick David. I just subscribe to A because my shop doesn't get in everything. [01:03:39] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, so maybe. Maybe then. Maybe then I should commit to just picking up the B covers. [01:03:46] Speaker A: Maybe you should. [01:03:47] Speaker B: So that way we can have. I don't. I don't know. I can't. I can't commit to that because sometimes I just gotta take that. [01:03:54] Speaker A: Yeah, you gotta do it. [01:03:58] Speaker B: So we gotta pop this open and give credit where credit is due. We got a script plot by Todd McFarland with coplot by John Goff, art by Simon Kudransky, color by FCO Plasencia and Sheila Saldana does the color flats lettering by the Tom father himself covered the covers. Creative director is Tom McFarlane and Thomas Healy is the editor in chief. Previously in Sam and Twitch, Twitch discovers how deep the conspiracy goes and he's forced to help those that seek to blackmail him. Yeah, they missed the part where he called. He called Sam. They should have put. He called Sam. I would have put it there. [01:04:46] Speaker A: And he called Sam. [01:04:47] Speaker B: I could imagine people. You know, there are a lot of people who don't like when the dog dies in a movie. So we'll specifically not see movies in which the dog dies. And there's a list of does the dog die? Yeah, okay. I'm not watching that movie. They could have done a like for people. I'm not gonna read a Sam and Twitch. If there's. There's beef between Sam and Twitch, they could have put just in there. He calls Sam and you know, those people could be like he calls Sam. Okay, we can go. [01:05:19] Speaker A: We can read it now. [01:05:20] Speaker B: We can read it now. That was a long walk for not a lot of payoff. Sorry. But we start with Twitch on the phone saying, come on, come on, come on. You know, in the titular phone call too. [01:05:35] Speaker A: Yes. [01:05:36] Speaker B: Sam himself. [01:05:38] Speaker A: The cops are standing there. [01:05:41] Speaker B: I like how he's just like, obviously this is a bit of long standing issue where Sam just doesn't answer his phone. Yeah, just like pick up your phone. [01:05:51] Speaker A: Everyone's got that friend that does that. [01:05:54] Speaker B: I Think I might be that friend, John. [01:05:56] Speaker A: Oh, if you don't have that friend, you are that friend. [01:05:59] Speaker B: Yeah. Because most everybody answers when I call. Shit. But. But the Plainfield crew are back there being like this doesn't sound very happy about that. [01:06:14] Speaker A: And like, you know what? Fuck you, Jim Socks him. [01:06:19] Speaker B: Oh, Johnny. Yeah, it would have been tonally inappropriate, but I would have loved a, a Rob Dwayne style sucker punch. Yeah. [01:06:29] Speaker A: Literally fit this book. [01:06:31] Speaker B: Yeah. Although I, I don't know if it's exactly a sucker punch because he totally deserved it and he saw it coming. Yeah. [01:06:39] Speaker A: He like comes towards him. He probably just doesn't expect it. [01:06:43] Speaker B: Yeah. And so, so Twitch says, fuck this con game you're playing. And. Okay, here's where I need to explain it. Huh. Maybe. Okay, so the conversation back and forth is kind of, kind of confusing, but so what it turns out to be is there was a serial killer in Plainfield and the cops found out about it because the serial killer was literally copycattying mistakes that the police force made. [01:07:19] Speaker A: Right. [01:07:19] Speaker B: Like they do some brutality. This copycat is like, haha, brutality. Cops kill a couple of people. Serial killers like, aha, I kill a couple of people. And then as the cops try to start covering it up, the serial killer starts trying to cover up their actions in much the same way. So like, these cops are deceiving everybody. So the serial killer is trying to deceive everybody in the same way to the point where they call in Twitch and Twitch starts investigating the cops. That the serial killer is like, oh, these cops are now being investigated. So I will investigate the cops. And that's kind of really the whole thing is they are, they are hoping to copycat the cops to the point where they can release all of the nonsense that the cops have been doing and have the people turn on the cops. [01:08:24] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:08:24] Speaker B: So it's somebody who was wronged by the police who was playing a very long convoluted game to expose the police. [01:08:34] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:08:35] Speaker B: And it just seems like there are so many points in this plan where it could go wrong and then no justice is brought forth. [01:08:42] Speaker A: Yeah, no, it makes some sense now. You explain it me kind of re looking at it. Yeah, it's a lot of information here. [01:08:48] Speaker B: It's, it's, it's a very twisty. It's a twisty, twisty. So basically the more successful the police are, the more successful the serial killer is going to be at this point. [01:08:58] Speaker A: Right. [01:08:59] Speaker B: And the police are not being successful. So the serial killer has an edge on them to the point that when they. When they look at the sign that he left on the body when he came to the house that says no good deed, a reference to the shirt, a slogan on the shirt that that particular officer used to wear. On the back of the note is a picture of the farmhouse. And so they pile into the cars and go to the farmhouse. Johnny. And they do. They make Twitch get in the car at gunpoint. So it's not very. Not very cash money of them, if you ask me. [01:09:47] Speaker A: We skipped over the part where it cuts to the serial killer for a sec. [01:09:50] Speaker B: Yeah, well, I figured we could mention that when they get to the. The house. So the serial killer is. Has a little montage of getting done. And getting done involves body bags, saws, spray paint, and the old farmhouse. [01:10:10] Speaker A: They will. They kind of force. They force him to go. [01:10:13] Speaker B: Yeah. At gunpoint. Yeah. And they got. They force him to open the door. And he open. And Twitch opens the door of this old farmhouse and is greeted with. Oh, geez, a whole. A whole. A whole mess of nasty. [01:10:29] Speaker A: A whole bunch of Saw 7. [01:10:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:10:31] Speaker A: And I'm not talking the movie Saw 7, even though I am, but I mean, Saw and 7. [01:10:36] Speaker B: Yeah. And. And the greatest 80s Clive Barker film. Hellraiser. [01:10:44] Speaker A: Hellraiser. Some Hellraiser. [01:10:46] Speaker B: Yeah. And there's just like a big like bowl of blood because I guess. I guess the serial killer exanguinated them and kept all of the blood. Yeah. So gross. And he spray painted numbers on the bodies. Yes. And you know, they let Twitch have his gun back and they let us know that it's impossible. Empty. They're like, it doesn't matter. He just has to look the part. So they go. They go all around. They see there's five different bodies, but of all the various parts that are hanging, not a single one of them is a head. And so they're wondering where the heads are. And then we have a series of flash cuts to different houses of around town and individuals who used to live in those houses, their heads being on the doorsteps. [01:11:52] Speaker A: I like how that the Tobias have a sign on their front door. [01:11:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:11:58] Speaker A: Just to let you know. [01:11:59] Speaker B: Yeah, just to let you know. That's real nice. [01:12:03] Speaker A: Yeah. Everyone's got ahead, even Healy's Hideaway. [01:12:06] Speaker B: Yeah, Heely's. So we're back at Healy's Hideaway. It says Twitch's Hotel. And we got the. The bad guy stepping into the door to the hotel room. And he's got that. That evil. Evil sunglasses light that we talked about, where his eyes are bright but his Face is dark. [01:12:29] Speaker A: Yes. [01:12:29] Speaker B: And he's looking over Twitch's work and he smiles a little bit. And while he's. [01:12:36] Speaker A: While he's thorough. [01:12:38] Speaker B: Yeah. While he's looking over Twitch's. Twitch's notes and stuff, there's a knock at the door. And so he slowly makes his way over and he peeks through the eyehole. And what do we see? [01:12:52] Speaker A: Johnny, it's Sam. [01:12:55] Speaker B: It's Sam. He says, twitch, open up. It's me, Sam. [01:13:00] Speaker A: And it's like, oh. [01:13:02] Speaker B: Oh, no. Sam's about to come face to face with somebody who is not Twitch, who is a killer. Yeah, he said he's a lady killer right now, Johnny, look at him. That is a. That is a fine looking boy right there. [01:13:16] Speaker A: Yeah, he looks nice. [01:13:17] Speaker B: Yeah, he's got his hair combed back. He's got his shirt tucked in like all the way. [01:13:23] Speaker A: Yeah, he's been taking care of himself. [01:13:25] Speaker B: Then we. [01:13:27] Speaker A: That is the end of the issue. [01:13:29] Speaker B: So we got a cliffhanger for. For the final issue of the arc. [01:13:33] Speaker A: It's an oversized issue. [01:13:35] Speaker B: Yeah, it is. It's still only 2.99. [01:13:38] Speaker A: It's still only 2.99. [01:13:39] Speaker B: Then we got the new generation. New stories. New you add again. [01:13:43] Speaker A: Yes. This one has Nice versus Samurai on it. [01:13:47] Speaker B: So it's. It's so. It's. It's wild. It's fun. [01:13:51] Speaker A: Okay, good. I'm glad you're enjoying it. [01:13:54] Speaker B: It's. It's mythology versus mythology, basically. It's. [01:13:58] Speaker A: I'll read them. I don't know. Let me borrow some of them. [01:14:01] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. [01:14:03] Speaker A: I'll check it out. And then we got the movie Maniacs in this one with all these crazy comedy guys. Oriole version dancing, confused. What else are you to say? This is the fourth time we've seen the we should do toy ads side. [01:14:24] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, at least. At least have some new movie maniacs made. Like add a couple to the series. [01:14:33] Speaker A: Yeah. And that's the issue. [01:14:36] Speaker B: That is the issue. [01:14:37] Speaker A: We got an awesome look at sandwich number eight with that. [01:14:40] Speaker B: Yeah, we do. Yeah, it's. Oh, it's great. Well, I got a. It's snowing outside a little bit. And when it snows, it always seems like when it snows that the dogs decide to sleep. And so I got some sleeping dogs over here. And we've got to rate them because they're. They're really awfully cute. [01:15:05] Speaker A: So what time would that make it, David? [01:15:07] Speaker B: That would make it time to rate the puppies. [01:15:09] Speaker A: It's time to rate the puppies. So first up today we had Rat City number seven. Big, big action. We were like building, building, building. And this is kind of like a little bit of a come down, a little bit of quiet issue. But it still has a lot of really cool stuff with the opening spawn fight. But also just like good character building and setting the stage. I really like this issue. The art again, Zay Carlos. It's amazing. I love seeing the. The opening nightmare sequence with Quinlan is just fantastic. And you really get the intimate moments. Well, like the facial expression of Peter when he's exhausted and his anger and Quinlan's, you know, struggle and waking up and the whole shebang. It's really well done. Setting some seeds about maybe Rhys coming back, I think. And we're kind of teeing up to find out more about this mysterious chairman. Art's great, really fun story. Good character stuff. I'm gonna give it four shots of adrenaline to the heart. [01:16:16] Speaker B: Ah, man. [01:16:17] Speaker A: Five. [01:16:18] Speaker B: That's. That's a lot of. That's a lot of. I mean, one of them literally brought Quinlan back to life. Could you imagine? What does the second one kill you again? And the third one only brings you back and the fourth one finally brings you back to the second time and then you're wired. [01:16:36] Speaker A: I don't know, but it's making my heart palpitate. [01:16:38] Speaker B: It's a lot to think about. That's a. That's a great score and a great analysis, Johnny. I'm going to. I'm going to agree with everything you said. This. This old, old school, hell style beat em up at the beginning is frightening and wonderful and we get a nice decapitation that is gooey and I mean. [01:17:02] Speaker A: It'S always cool to see spawn like the point of view of a normal person like Quinlan. It's just like. [01:17:06] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:17:07] Speaker A: Ah, so scary. [01:17:09] Speaker B: Yeah. And then we get the. The quieter moments between Quinlan and Peter and the. In the storage facility. Just kind of two people thrown together just having to deal with the situation that they're in. [01:17:25] Speaker A: I like the setting. I like the storage facility is kind of like weird and grimy futurey. [01:17:30] Speaker B: Yeah. And then, you know, the evil. The evil, evil bad guys with their. Oh, man, the. Their. Their Elon Musk in it, Johnny. They're the evil, evil tech guys. It's. It's just so good. It's. I love this book, Johnny. Everything about it. I'm gonna give this 4.2 decapitated violators. Just. [01:17:57] Speaker A: Nice. [01:17:58] Speaker B: I love a decapitated violator. [01:18:00] Speaker A: 4.2. Huh? [01:18:01] Speaker B: 4.2. Trying to. Trying to be a Little loosey gooseier about it. Put a couple. A couple of points in there. [01:18:09] Speaker A: 42 for the life universe and everything, right? [01:18:11] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [01:18:13] Speaker A: And a loss number. Then next up we had Sam and Twitch case files number seven, which I. When I read, to be fair, I was at the barbershop waiting to get my hair cut. [01:18:27] Speaker B: Is this the. The same time where you realized you hadn't pre ordered no home here and rushed out? [01:18:35] Speaker A: Oh, it's gunslinger. I need to pre order. I probably missed it. [01:18:38] Speaker B: Oh no. Oh no. [01:18:42] Speaker A: I gotta fucking get on that shit. [01:18:47] Speaker B: I know what you're doing. After the record today. Yeah, Frantically calling up challengers. Pat, I got a thing I need you to do. [01:18:55] Speaker A: What else is coming out? Let me get ahead of this. No more no home here. Is there anything else new? [01:19:02] Speaker B: No, no. The next one, I think is going to be the sealy book or spawn. 77 maybe, or 77 or 74. [01:19:14] Speaker A: Whatever it is. 79. [01:19:15] Speaker B: 77. It's 77. [01:19:18] Speaker A: Okay. What does it come out? January? [01:19:20] Speaker B: I think so. I think it's supposed to be either the end of the month or February. [01:19:24] Speaker A: Okay, I gotta see if they can reserve me one. Oh my God, what am I gonna do? [01:19:30] Speaker B: Sorry, I didn't mean to. I didn't mean to cut anxiety. This show is supposed to be calming. [01:19:37] Speaker A: No, no, no. We have. Next up we have Sam and Twitch7, which I did pre order and did subscribe to. And it is the penultimate issue to this arc. It is. You know, at first, like I said, I read it a barbershop and I was like, probably like half paying attention, I guess. And then I read it again and I was still a little confused, but David laid it out. It does make sense. I just. I didn't trust myself to like, understand what was going. I don't know. It's just a lot of chewy Todd father exposition. [01:20:09] Speaker B: Yeah, A lot of things going on at once. [01:20:11] Speaker A: A lot of things going on at once. And just big exposition dump. That kind of recontextualizes everything. And also I'm still like, why did he take his gun then, Johnny? [01:20:21] Speaker B: Apparently these cops aren't exceptional examples of their profession. [01:20:29] Speaker A: Right. [01:20:30] Speaker B: But they crooked. [01:20:31] Speaker A: They're crooked, they're bad. No good deed goes unpunished. [01:20:34] Speaker B: No, certainly. [01:20:36] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, I liked it. It's good. It's gnarly. Great covers. I like the. The shot at the end with Sam, like on the other side of the door, but it's just a little bit of like. Like I said, the exposition dove, you know, God love the Todd father. But sometimes he could be guilty of that and I feel like it's just a little too much too fast in one scene. Yeah. Could have been spread out a little more, but it is what it is. I'm gonna give it three out of five. Dapper Sam's. [01:21:13] Speaker B: Hell, yeah. That's all right. Could you imagine? I, I, could you imagine one Dapper Satan, Dapper Sam and then having three of them next? Yeah. Oh, boy, oh boy. That's a good looking pack. A good looking pack of people. Yeah, it's, it's, it's dark, it's gritty, it's. Could use a little polishing, some shortening up. Right. But it's, it's a fun little, it's a fun little mystery. And now we're at the, the final reveal stage. So it's, it's going to be just like a flat out sprint to just end on and yeah, it's, it's good, it's, it's a little confusing, but that doesn't stop from it being an enjoyable time at the comics. I am also going to give it a. I'm also going to give it three. I'm going to give it three. Pick up your phones. [01:22:09] Speaker A: Just pick up your phone, guys. [01:22:12] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [01:22:13] Speaker A: What are you talking about? You said you're the one that doesn't. [01:22:14] Speaker B: If Sam had picked up his phone, Sam wouldn't. Or Twitch would have his help and Sam wouldn't be in the situation he's in. When's he gonna learn, Johnny? [01:22:23] Speaker A: Unless they do. Unless you don't have the number, maybe don't pick up the phone and wait for a voicemail because someone really wants to contact you because you don't want it like a scam thing. [01:22:30] Speaker B: Yeah. And most of the time, most of the time, anybody, anybody I talk to, I'm like, I'll always pick up the phone. Except for maybe I'm not. If you want to text first, then I'll be like, okay, I'll pick it up. [01:22:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:22:43] Speaker B: If it's really important, you got to say, can I call you? [01:22:46] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. Yeah. That was two issues, two spin offs, baby. It's the new you. We're just living in it. [01:22:54] Speaker B: Yeah, it's very good. It's very good. I, you know, loving this Rat City, Johnny. I'm loving meeting all these people that were. We got these, this new doctor, we've got this new new chairperson's eyes and ears. I'm implying ears. He only said eyes. But we can assume that there's also. [01:23:17] Speaker A: Some with her golden Eye. [01:23:20] Speaker B: Yeah. So I love meeting all these people in the comics. I love meeting people in general. And one of the places we get to do that is on Instagram and we like to meet people. We like you to meet the people that we meet. It's very exciting. Johnny? [01:23:36] Speaker A: Yeah. You got someone in particular you'd want us to meet this week, David? [01:23:40] Speaker B: Absolutely. Okay. Yeah. This week we have our friend malikspawn King that we want y'all to go to go visit. And that's Malik, spelled M A L I Q U, K E. And then underscore Spawn. Underscore King. And they're, they're just a huge old Spawn fan here. They got Mr. Bones approved post here for Spawn Kills every Spawn and violator. It's very exciting. I like Mr. Bones. [01:24:12] Speaker A: Yeah. Tiny Swanny. [01:24:14] Speaker B: Uh huh. They. They like Art the Clown. So, you know, they are a person of quality. [01:24:21] Speaker A: Yeah, no, they're real supportive of the podcast and we just want to give them a shout out. And if you're a Spawn fan, give a follow. [01:24:27] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. Do it while you're. While you're over on Instagram too. You should give us a like and a follow or over there at. Regarding SpawnPod. You know, reach out if you. If you want to talk to us. It's a great place to slide into our DMs. [01:24:41] Speaker A: Well, yep. [01:24:42] Speaker B: Johnny will answer you. [01:24:45] Speaker A: Yes, I will. I promise. I actually will. [01:24:48] Speaker B: Yeah, Johnny will. And then, David, maybe not. [01:24:53] Speaker A: Maybe not. [01:24:54] Speaker B: As. As previously discussed, while you're on the. [01:24:57] Speaker A: Internet, you can always hit us up@. Regarding spawnpodmail.com. [01:25:01] Speaker B: Yes, absolutely. [01:25:03] Speaker A: And every week I like to ask a question. And my question this week would be, what did you think of the kind of the reveal here in Salmon Twitch number seven? I know it's not quite done. Was it confusing to you? I don't know, just. Am I stupid? [01:25:17] Speaker B: I don't think he's stupid, Johnny. [01:25:19] Speaker A: It's okay. I just, I don't know. I just got kind of hung up on it. But David explaining it and like revisiting it now on the podcast and made it make a lot more sense. So it's just told in an interesting way. [01:25:33] Speaker B: It had. It had the same problem that Star Wars Episode 2, Attack of the Clones had, Johnny. [01:25:39] Speaker A: What's that? [01:25:40] Speaker B: A lot of first draft problem problems, as you called them. [01:25:43] Speaker A: Yes, exactly. It's just like this is just. You could have just refined this a little bit. [01:25:48] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:25:49] Speaker A: But hey, you know, Todd father's a busy man, so. Yeah, hit us up with your thoughts on Sam and Twitch 7. And also, while you're on the Internet, make sure to look up Lonnie Bones. [01:26:01] Speaker B: Yes. [01:26:02] Speaker A: He does our music. You can find him wherever you get music. Lonnie, with a Y. [01:26:08] Speaker B: Yes. Very good. Very good. And Johnny, you know what? You know what else is good on the Internet? [01:26:16] Speaker A: I mean, a lot of things, I guess. Letterbox has been pretty fun. I've been having fun with letterboxd. [01:26:20] Speaker B: Oh, nice, nice. I like. [01:26:21] Speaker A: You should get one. [01:26:22] Speaker B: I like letter, but I would probably forget to fill it out. Yeah, it's a. It's a whole thing. I get anxious about it. But no, I'm saying. I was saying that. That we're good on the Internet. Like we're out there. And in order to continue to be out there, we have to read some more Spawn Universe books and then come back and talk about them and then release that talking to the world. What do you say, Johnny? [01:26:55] Speaker A: Let's do it. [01:26:56] Speaker B: Let's do it. Let's do it. So for next. For next time, Johnny, we're going to be reading Misery Number four, the final of that series. [01:27:06] Speaker A: Indeed it is. [01:27:08] Speaker B: And spun Main title spawn number 358. [01:27:12] Speaker A: Cool. [01:27:13] Speaker B: Yeah, I will. I will enjoy talking to you about Spawn. [01:27:20] Speaker A: Indeed. I don't know. We'll see how. We'll see how revisiting Misery Number four. I remember not being my favorite. It. [01:27:26] Speaker B: It'll be a mixed bag, mainly because. [01:27:27] Speaker A: It just kind of ends and like a lot of stuff doesn't. [01:27:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:27:30] Speaker A: A lot of heavy themes that aren't really paid off and kind of just left dangling. But hopefully it can be continued by somebody. We'll get to it. We'll get to it next week. [01:27:38] Speaker B: It's a. It's a breakdown. It's a proof of concept. It's the short film that will evade eventually be later readapted into a feature length film. [01:27:46] Speaker A: Exactly. [01:27:48] Speaker B: So we're here for that. This is. This is. This is Todd McFarlane's sandbox. We're just living in it. [01:27:56] Speaker A: Yep. [01:27:56] Speaker B: He's given. He's given us the stories and we're getting stories. I can't really ask for much more. [01:28:04] Speaker A: That's true. He's one of those creators just like Lucas and Rolling. [01:28:08] Speaker B: Yeah, Beggars can't be chooser. Choosers. And I have been begging for story Johnny, so that makes it sound worse than it is. No, it's. It's really good. [01:28:17] Speaker A: I know you're not begging for it. You showed me your stack of stuff you haven't read. You have plenty. [01:28:22] Speaker B: Hey, you're Not. You're not allowed to call me out. [01:28:26] Speaker A: Yes, I am. That's why I'm here. [01:28:29] Speaker B: Time. There's just. There's just stuff to do. [01:28:34] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:28:35] Speaker B: Yeah, that's. That's life. That's what all the people say. [01:28:39] Speaker A: Yep. Well, make sure to rate the video and subscribe. [01:28:42] Speaker B: Shut down in May. [01:28:44] Speaker A: Give us a review wherever you get podcasts. [01:28:47] Speaker B: Please do. Please do, Johnny. I think. I think with that, we've got nothing else to say. But may the scorched be with you. [01:28:57] Speaker A: And also with you. Yahoo. Thanks for coming to our Mario themed episode. We had so much Mario talk on here. [01:29:07] Speaker B: Let's. I mean, we're bookending it with Mario. [01:29:11] Speaker A: Tac because it's episode 120 for 120 stars from Mario 64. [01:29:16] Speaker B: What is. What is your favorite Mario game? [01:29:23] Speaker A: Probably Super Mario Galaxy 2 or Super Mario Galaxy. One of those. I really do like Mario 64 classic for a reason. 2D ones. I like Super Mario World. They're all great. Even the original. [01:29:42] Speaker B: I. It might. It might be biased because it's one of only a few Mario games that I've played ever. But Mario Galaxy rocked, if only because it introduced us to Rosalina. And Rosalina is an awesome, awesome star mama who just has all these little star babies and will do anything she must or she needs to do to protect them. [01:30:12] Speaker A: Amazing game. Yeah, I think Galaxy is up there. Odyssey was really good too, but it's. [01:30:18] Speaker B: Just like such a different animal then the next. Probably Mario Kart. Wii. [01:30:25] Speaker A: Oh, nice. I threw a Mario Kart in there. Oh, my God. [01:30:29] Speaker B: Hey, that would be a Mario game. Not as many stars, though.
