But I don't have Logan in here with me like I did last week, so we won't almost die of carbon monoxide poisoning from being locked in a closet and talking too much. [00:02:06] Speaker C: Carbon monoxide is a logan made of burning petroleum. [00:02:10] Speaker A: Okay, carbon dioxide. Whichever. He's a science fan. [00:02:13] Speaker C: Dioxide. Dioxide. [00:02:16] Speaker C: Carbon monoxide is the one that you can't detect so that they have to add scent to, so that way you know that there's some gas there. [00:02:25] Speaker A: Yeah, we had a leak one time in my house, and it was weird. I got all funky dunky. [00:02:31] Speaker B: Oh, man. Oh, man. [00:02:33] Speaker C: Yeah, it's. It's real weird. [00:02:35] Speaker A: Our heater was giving it off or something. [00:02:36] Speaker B: It was great. Oh, man. There's. [00:02:38] Speaker C: There's lots of good. Good studies coming out about how terrible it is to actually burn gas items in your house. [00:02:47] Speaker B: Like, it could lead to a whole. [00:02:48] Speaker C: Bunch of breathing issues if you grow up around gas appliances. That's fun. [00:02:53] Speaker B: Cool. Yeah. Yeah. [00:02:56] Speaker A: Well, see, that's why we have you. You're the science guy. I know all the names of all the episodes of loss, and that Bob Ufric species is anzellian. [00:03:07] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:03:08] Speaker C: Well, now we both know. [00:03:28] Speaker C: At least half of the episode is just like. It's just like somebody took their labyrinth action figures and their Star wars action figures and swished them together. I truly inspected, expected Jareth the Goblin king with a ginormous codpiece to step out of a cantina at some point. [00:03:53] Speaker A: That's so funny you mentioned that. I just saw friend of the Pod. [00:03:56] Speaker B: Host a movie in the musical Bran. [00:03:59] Speaker A: Moorhead's show that they're in called floor show. [00:04:01] Speaker B: And it's like a David Bowie kind of tribute show. [00:04:07] Speaker A: I don't know what to say about it. It's a theater piece, but it's really good. And he starts out. The guy who does all the David Bowie stuff starts out as Jareth the Goblin King. [00:04:18] Speaker B: It was really good. [00:04:19] Speaker A: So nice. [00:04:20] Speaker B: Nice. If you can time travel to see. [00:04:24] Speaker A: Theater in Chicago, you should go see floor show playing at the Chopin theater in February, March. [00:04:34] Speaker C: We're good at advertising. [00:04:38] Speaker A: Yes. No, see, I won't suffocate myself with carbon dioxide. [00:04:43] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:43] Speaker A: This week, because I'm solo. [00:04:45] Speaker B: But I got a big, hefty. [00:04:47] Speaker A: I feel like I got another person in the room with me because this issue of spawn, just the recovery is huge. [00:04:53] Speaker C: It just sucks all the air out of everything around it, doesn't it? [00:04:57] Speaker B: It does. [00:04:57] Speaker A: It's exciting. It's funny. I put on the story. [00:04:59] Speaker C: It takes your breath away. [00:05:00] Speaker A: It does. It turned my day around yesterday. It really did. I was having a. I was being stressy, depressy. And I was like, oh, I gotta read these spawns. But not in a bad way. But I was like, okay, I should read these, you know, because I'm gonna be tired tonight. And I read it and it just made me in a much better mood because it was so awesome. [00:05:17] Speaker B: Awesome. Well, that's. [00:05:19] Speaker C: That's great because. [00:05:19] Speaker B: Yeah, I know. [00:05:20] Speaker C: Sometimes, like, even if it's something you enjoy doing, there are just certain times you're just like, man, I don't even wanna. [00:05:27] Speaker B: I don't even wanna touch that. Even though I know it'll bring me joy. I just wanna turn on the Pluto. [00:05:32] Speaker A: Tv bar rescue channel or the jeopardy. Channel. We've been watching a lot, actually. [00:05:39] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. [00:05:39] Speaker B: Nice. Nice. [00:05:40] Speaker C: Mine is just doom scrolling, so I. [00:05:44] Speaker B: Need to get out of that. Oh, no. [00:05:46] Speaker C: Because, like, the entire time, you're just like, I should stop doing this. But then you just, like, keep sitting. [00:05:51] Speaker B: There and you're like, yeah, I should stop doing this. [00:05:54] Speaker A: Yeah, instead of doom scrolling, you need to spawn, scroll and read some spawn, which is what we're gonna do today. [00:06:01] Speaker C: Or doom spawn, which is where I write fanfic or flat, maybe slash fic about the marine from doom and. And Al Simmons fighting aliens and kissing. [00:06:13] Speaker B: A little bit and demons. Yeah, yeah, they could. They could. [00:06:17] Speaker A: I mean, they. [00:06:18] Speaker B: Yeah, they're both McFarlane action figures. [00:06:21] Speaker A: There's a really cool doom slayer coming out. [00:06:23] Speaker C: Yeah. Nice. [00:06:24] Speaker A: So many cool McFarlane figures. We just had the winner showcase. [00:06:42] Speaker A: There was a great one where he was talking about the dragon. He was like, look at this dragon. We got this cool dragon. You got his wings. Oh, my God. [00:06:55] Speaker C: Yeah, I'm lucky. [00:06:56] Speaker A: I didn't really want any of the movie maniacs, because I used to love the movie maniacs line back in the day. [00:08:18] Speaker A: The Wicked Witch is one of the movie maniacs. Figures. It's the one I considered buying. Cause I was like, I love that Wicked Witch of the west. Used to scare the shit out of me. [00:08:26] Speaker B: Yeah, she was. [00:08:28] Speaker C: But I mean, she was, she was justified. The house fell on her sister. [00:08:32] Speaker A: I mean, they're all Warner Brothers properties. Yeah, I mean, they're probably both in ready player one. I just don't remember. [00:08:38] Speaker B: I bet they are. [00:08:41] Speaker C: Yeah, well, what we need, what we need is we need to get Mel Brooks to direct the spawn movie and then he can do the classic Mel Brooks taken us through the back, lots of all the other movies and his movie, and then he could just bring them in Willy nilly. [00:08:57] Speaker B: We should get Mel Brooks to do. [00:08:59] Speaker A: The Cygor movie, man. [00:09:01] Speaker B: Just Mel Brooks, Cygor and Freak. [00:09:20] Speaker A: Some friends, and David was there. [00:09:22] Speaker C: Johnny has a birthday. And it just happened. And so that reminded me. [00:09:27] Speaker A: Al Madras house shows like old [email protected]. [00:09:30] Speaker B: Huh? What? [00:09:31] Speaker C: I'm telling people to send you happy birthday messages to the email. [00:09:34] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, send me happy birthday messages. No, they show, like, trailers that are related to the movie. And we were seeing 1980 one's possession and they showed a the fly trailer. And that reminded me because it said Brooks film. [00:09:49] Speaker B: That was one of the two non. [00:09:51] Speaker A: Comedies that Mel Brooks produced. [00:09:53] Speaker B: Oh, nice. [00:09:54] Speaker A: He really liked David Cronenberg's early movies. [00:09:56] Speaker B: And he produced the fly and he. [00:09:58] Speaker A: Produced the Elephant man. [00:10:01] Speaker B: Nice. [00:10:02] Speaker A: Were two Mel Brooks non comedies that he made and he, like, wanted them to hide his name. He's like, hide it as deep in the credits as you can. I don't want it to, like, delegitimize your movie. [00:10:11] Speaker B: But does it? [00:10:12] Speaker C: Does it also, because, you know, famously, famously, Mel Brooks always has, you know. [00:10:18] Speaker B: Alongside the best boy credit, he always. [00:10:22] Speaker C: Has the worst boy credit. And Hitler is always the worst boy. [00:10:26] Speaker B: In every, every Mel Brooks movie. [00:10:28] Speaker C: I wonder, as a producer, Hitler is also the worst boy on those two films. [00:10:34] Speaker A: It's probably the Brundle fly. He's the worst boy. He wants to become an insect politician and he tries to eat his girlfriend. [00:10:43] Speaker B: Boo. [00:10:45] Speaker A: Well, no, Hitler's worse than that. That's true. [00:10:47] Speaker B: Yeah, it's always a fun, it's a. [00:10:50] Speaker C: Fun thing to see best boy and. [00:10:52] Speaker A: Worst boy, it's like the fake shemps for Sam Raimi. Whenever someone substitutes, like, a hand or. [00:11:01] Speaker B: A foot to be someone else, it's. [00:11:03] Speaker A: A credit in the credits. It's fake Shemp. Because there were a bunch of three susja shorts that were made after Shemp had died, and so they weren't completed, but they'd filmed some of it, and so they had to use, like, a fake shemp. And that's where that comes from. [00:11:20] Speaker C: Man, I love knowing little dumb jokes that it's like, I have a friend. [00:11:26] Speaker B: Who, back when he used to give. [00:11:29] Speaker C: Poster presentations for science stuff, he would always make a, like, two pixel by two pixel Godzilla, and he would hide it somewhere in his poster. And so you could always just go. [00:11:41] Speaker B: Up to him and you'd be like. [00:11:42] Speaker C: Where'S the godzilla on this one? And he'd be like, it's right here, man. [00:11:47] Speaker B: That's funny. [00:11:47] Speaker C: That's great. [00:11:48] Speaker B: I love things that are just for you. [00:11:51] Speaker A: Things that are for me are King Spawn as well, in addition to Spawn. So we're doing Spawn 300 and King Spawn 18. [00:12:00] Speaker C: I forgot that we didn't continue the. So, yeah, it's weird how things sync up. [00:12:22] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:12:24] Speaker C: It's almost like there's a conspiracy afoot. It's almost like Mark has found someone we know and reasonably trust has caused all of the bad things that are. [00:12:36] Speaker B: Currently happening, but they're the good things. [00:12:39] Speaker A: That are currently happening. Like an evil dead movie in a. [00:12:42] Speaker B: Wicked witch figure and king Spawn being. [00:12:46] Speaker A: Good and spawn being good. [00:12:48] Speaker B: It's a great time to be spawn. Spawn, man. [00:12:52] Speaker A: A span fan. [00:12:53] Speaker B: What was it? [00:12:54] Speaker A: Span fan. [00:12:55] Speaker C: Well, that was. Yeah, that was span fan art or span fawn art. [00:12:58] Speaker B: That's what it was. [00:13:00] Speaker A: I love span fawn, and I'm a span fawn. [00:13:03] Speaker C: Oh, man. [00:13:04] Speaker A: Well, as we see from this issue, Spawn is no faun because he is 300 issues old. [00:13:10] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:13:11] Speaker A: And the first one recovering here, spawn 300. If you don't know or weren't part of the gang yet, it is September 2019. It came out. I wasn't buying comics at the time. I know you were, David. Do you kind of remember it coming out? [00:13:25] Speaker C: Yes, I was. Unfortunately, not buying spawn comics at the time, but that was the beginning of my trying to do weekly polls, and I have not gone back. [00:13:37] Speaker B: I've never looked back. [00:13:40] Speaker C: It's as dangerous as drugs, comic books, but they don't have as much potential to ruin your life. [00:13:47] Speaker B: So don't do drugs. [00:13:51] Speaker C: Or at least the bad ones. [00:13:52] Speaker B: Don't do drugs. [00:13:53] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm at the point of my journey where I'm learning to scale back. [00:13:57] Speaker B: And what I can do and maybe. [00:13:59] Speaker A: Don'T subscribe to everything, even if I like it. Cause sometimes you wanna control how much you're spending. [00:14:03] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. [00:14:04] Speaker A: And, like, if you're subscribing to a lot, sometimes you just get that week where it just dumps you with, like, a $100. Damn it. [00:14:10] Speaker C: Yeah, it's. It's. It's real fun, because at the beginning, you're always like, what is going on? What is happening? What do I do? [00:14:17] Speaker A: And then, like, I'm gonna start buying all of these. [00:14:19] Speaker C: And then, like, you start learning about shit. You're like, do you know about this? [00:14:22] Speaker A: I gotta read this. [00:14:23] Speaker C: Do you know about this? I gotta read this. [00:14:25] Speaker B: And then, yeah, then you kind of. The problem is that the advertising is just so. They're so good at advertising, these stories. [00:14:38] Speaker B: Like, anytime I pick up a DC. [00:14:41] Speaker C: Miniseries, there's always, like, three advertisements that it's like, oh, shit, I gotta pick that up when it comes out. [00:14:49] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:49] Speaker A: I did my first experiment of doing. I just wanted to. Once, just to say I did. [00:14:53] Speaker B: I probably won't do it again, but. [00:14:56] Speaker A: I decided to follow the Lazarus planet stuff just for fun. [00:15:00] Speaker B: Just mainly because I went to that. [00:15:02] Speaker A: Challenger sale, and they had, like, the first three one shots of it, like, just there on sale. [00:15:06] Speaker B: So I bought them. [00:15:07] Speaker A: And it's been fun. Like, I got some new characters I like. I'm gonna follow Zatanna. Like, I like her. [00:15:14] Speaker B: I like a couple other characters. [00:15:17] Speaker A: And it was just fun to kind of follow that, but I don't think it's something I'm really gonna. I even had to not follow everything. Cause it was like, oh, you gotta read Monkey Prince and Wonder Woman. I'm like, okay, I'm not going that far. Okay, I'm not reading Wonder Woman 1000, all right? [00:15:31] Speaker C: How dare you not be a completionist, Johnny? You have to read all 1000 Wonder Womans before you can get to that one. So you can read the thing. You know, you don't have two people. [00:15:39] Speaker B: No, no, no. [00:15:40] Speaker A: But it's just funny to me. Cause it's like. It's like earth shattering changes the universe forever. And you know that it's gonna be, like, not really that big a deal, but it's comics. I do love that new Superman, though. That was really good. [00:15:51] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:15:51] Speaker C: It is solid. [00:15:52] Speaker B: It is very good. [00:15:54] Speaker C: I mean, but it will be Earth. [00:15:55] Speaker B: Shattering for those people who. [00:15:58] Speaker C: It's their first event. [00:15:59] Speaker B: Like, you know, all of the events. [00:16:01] Speaker C: Basically do the same thing. They just sort of clean up the timeline for a little bit. [00:16:05] Speaker B: But, you know. Yeah, no, it was cool to me. [00:16:07] Speaker A: It was fun to follow it. [00:16:08] Speaker C: In 30 years, we'll have people talking about how Lazarus Planet was something that they fucking loved, and it was the first thing that got them into comics. Yeah, it's fine. There's no worries. Comics gonna be comicking. [00:16:19] Speaker A: And so this is kind of tough. I feel like I'm avoiding getting into it. Cause we always start with the covers here, and I think Spawn 300 has about 300 covers. [00:16:32] Speaker C: At least. At least I've got. [00:16:35] Speaker A: This is where we need, like. And now at the collection desk, we cut to spawn hunter or spawn safari or petru Spawn. And then they can list off every single cover. And, like. [00:16:47] Speaker B: But that's the thing is, like, these big McFarlane ones, like, even as of. [00:16:52] Speaker A: Two days ago, he released, like, three new Batman spawn variants that came with. If you spent a certain amount at the store. [00:16:58] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:16:59] Speaker A: And it's like, you can't even keep up with it. There's so many. [00:17:01] Speaker C: Yeah. And they're the new. The action figure photos. [00:17:05] Speaker B: Yeah, it's gonna be fun. [00:17:06] Speaker A: I spent enough. Cause I bought that. I bought that wave pack they have for, like, 80 something bucks where you got. You save, like, $15 on getting all three of them. [00:17:14] Speaker B: And I got the. [00:17:16] Speaker A: Whatever, the lowest tier of that. [00:17:19] Speaker B: I'll have another if she. I'll have the action figure copy, which is funny. [00:17:22] Speaker A: I love that. [00:17:23] Speaker B: Yeah, it's real good. [00:17:24] Speaker A: But, yeah, there's so many covers. And you said there's even an exclusive digital cover. [00:17:29] Speaker C: Yeah. Cause the digital edition I have literally says digital edition on the front of it. There's, like, different magic sparkle on Spawn's fists is what makes it different from the regular print cover. [00:17:43] Speaker A: What is the actual, like, normal a cover of this. [00:17:47] Speaker B: So it's just. [00:17:48] Speaker C: It's spawn standing there, and he's got, you know, his. [00:17:52] Speaker B: One of his fish fists clenched, and. [00:17:55] Speaker C: It'S got, like, a cross of air coming at or of light coming out of his wrist. And it says spawn 300 history making.
