[00:00:00] Speaker A: Oh, dear me. I prayed so hard for God to help me to send someone. And he sent you. It's you. Good evening, and welcome to the Mal bowls. This is regarding Spawn, the world's best spawn podcast. I am your co host, John Fisher. [00:00:50] Speaker B: And I am your co host, David Williams. Ooh, I almost said, I am your co host, John Williams. There. [00:00:57] Speaker A: John Williams. That would have been a documentary. [00:01:00] Speaker B: That wouldn't have been an amazing git. Actually, you know, I know a John Williams. [00:01:04] Speaker A: Oh, there you go. There's a new documentary coming out called music by John Williams. [00:01:09] Speaker B: Oh, nice. Is he doing the music? [00:01:11] Speaker A: I don't know if he's doing the music. I actually don't. [00:01:13] Speaker B: That would be hilarious. They hire Hans Zimmer to do the. [00:01:17] Speaker A: I mean, do you want to. Do you want to score your own documentary about yourself? Maybe that's too much. [00:01:23] Speaker B: I mean, if you are out there literally doing. Doing soundtracks for cost just because you fucking love putting music together, that's true. That you would be like, yes, absolutely. [00:01:35] Speaker A: I think maybe he probably did then, because it's gonna be on Disney and release theatrically, so it's like a major release. [00:01:41] Speaker B: Oh, nice. [00:01:42] Speaker A: Not some rinky dink documentary. [00:01:44] Speaker B: Not. No rinky Dink YouTube documentary about a real one, about the world and its shape. And it's how it's falling through the. [00:01:54] Speaker A: Know about the star. The failure of the Star wars galactic Star cruiser. [00:01:57] Speaker B: Oh, that one. That one. I thought you were talking about the rabbit. [00:02:00] Speaker A: That's not Ricky Dink, though. I don't mean to insult that documentary. [00:02:02] Speaker B: The rabbit hole of flat earther videos that it's just like, oh, yeah. What? What? [00:02:09] Speaker A: It's flat as a big dome over. [00:02:11] Speaker B: The earth, but it's also, like, going to create the gravity. It is, like, moving at a very fasten. I guess it would be moving at 9.8 meters/second squared, wouldn't it? [00:02:23] Speaker A: You tell me, science man. [00:02:25] Speaker B: Well, that is the speed of gravity, or gravity's force, I guess, is 9.8 meters/second squared. [00:02:33] Speaker A: Okay, then I guess that would be it. [00:02:34] Speaker B: Yeah, that's fast. [00:02:37] Speaker A: I don't know if I'd pick John Williams to score the spawn movie, though. [00:02:44] Speaker B: It would be excellent for those. [00:02:46] Speaker A: I mean, it would be good. I absolutely could do it. [00:02:48] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, no, I'm just thinking, like, it would be very good for the sad, mopey spawn in the alley, just, like, sitting amongst the trash. That would hit so hard. [00:02:59] Speaker A: But I wanna get, like, Trent Reznor and Atticus at Ross. [00:03:02] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. It would be way too it would be way too joyful for the rest of spawn though, right? [00:03:09] Speaker A: He, like, evidently, in the director's eyes, like, saved home alone. Chris Columbus really credits, not saves him, but he's like, I mean, the movie is like half as good as it is without John Williams. [00:03:19] Speaker B: I could. I believe that. I believe that. [00:03:22] Speaker A: It's a great score. [00:03:23] Speaker B: It's an amazing score. His best. [00:03:26] Speaker A: Oh, wow. Home alone is what? [00:03:30] Speaker B: Oh, no, I was asking. I wasn't asserting. But now that I've got so many good ones, he's got too many good ones to choose each. [00:03:38] Speaker A: Star wars, even the prequels, is like a fucking masterpiece. [00:03:43] Speaker B: Yeah, every single one of them. Every time. [00:03:45] Speaker A: Those are movies that definitely would not be happening without the score, man. [00:03:51] Speaker B: If the sound design for the prequels wasn't anywhere as up as it is, they would be much harder to watch. [00:03:58] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Ben Burtt was killing it. [00:04:00] Speaker B: Yeah. Especially, especially that fucking the pod racing. I think 90% of the pod racing is awesome because of the sounds. [00:04:08] Speaker A: I love subolvers. [00:04:11] Speaker B: Another 9% is just because it's fast shit crashing. [00:04:15] Speaker A: And another 2% is because of the funny aliens. [00:04:18] Speaker B: So it's now at 101%. So. [00:04:21] Speaker A: Yep, 100 Dalmatians. [00:04:22] Speaker B: Just like all those Dalmatians. [00:04:24] Speaker A: We're not talking Dalmatians. [00:04:26] Speaker B: No, we're talking about a third. Roughly around a third of 101 right about now. [00:04:32] Speaker A: Yeah, we're in some thirties. [00:04:33] Speaker B: We're in some thirties. In the thirties. [00:04:36] Speaker A: In the dirty thirties, we're starting to go gray. We're starting to bald. [00:04:41] Speaker B: Mm hmm. We're starting to, no matter what we do, just sort of gradually have to buy bigger and bigger pants. The worst feeling is having to buy new pants that are a size up. Cause then it's like grumble, grumble, grumble. But it feels so good to have pants that actually fit. We need to get rid of the stigma. Everybody's body is gonna change. Just, just buy the pants that fit you, whether or not don't pay attention to the number. Be comfortable. Be you. Yeah, that sounds like an advertisement. [00:05:10] Speaker A: Don't squeeze into some pants just to be a rock God or a supermodel. [00:05:14] Speaker B: Yeah, those aren't comfortable. You can't sit. You can't do what you want to do in those. You gotta be like, oh, I gotta sit up straight. No, no, no. You wanna, you wanna be like a couch goblin being like, hi. Yes, the Godzilla is on. Yes, you need stretchy pants for that. [00:05:29] Speaker A: You do. And so throw on your stretchy pants and read some thirties of spawn. Because we got two issues from Spawn's universe that are both in their thirties, not 30 years old, but number thirties. This. Today, we are doing two modern issues. We're trying to catch up on the modern, because there's, oh, so much. We're doing Kingspawn 34 all the way from May 2024, and scorch 30 from June 2024. [00:05:56] Speaker B: Not too bad. Not too bad at all. That's a pretty good spread, man. [00:05:59] Speaker A: What will Scorch look like when it's 30? Like, actually 30. Like, 30 years old? [00:06:05] Speaker B: Well, hoping it'll have, like, that X Men style length of characters where you go on Wikipedia and there's, like, a whole dedicated server just to scorched characters. [00:06:20] Speaker A: I'm assuming Spawn's gonna outlive me at this point. [00:06:24] Speaker B: I would be surprised if it didn't. [00:06:26] Speaker A: Have, because there's another movie coming out which will spur interest, and that'll be a little new fans, and there's always new comics. [00:06:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:32] Speaker A: Seems like it's only growing. [00:06:33] Speaker B: Yeah. But especially because now with it not all. Just everything coming out of the toddfather himself, and he's branching out and having other people taking and doing ongoing comics instead of just, like, miniseries. I have a feeling it's gonna be like its own little cottage industry going. Going on and on in an ad infinitum. [00:06:56] Speaker A: Yep. [00:06:56] Speaker B: And at a certain point, we'll be able to climb the stack of comic books to the moon, Johnny. [00:07:03] Speaker A: Yeah, we can take Spawn to the moon. [00:07:06] Speaker B: That'll be. That'll be next week, when we're that far behind. [00:07:12] Speaker A: Oh, man. So much spawn. [00:07:14] Speaker B: I just hope that when the milestone of stack of Spawn comics published is, if stacked, one on top of each other, would be the distance from the earth to the moon. I hope the Todd father is alive to see that, because, you know, he's gonna be like, we got to the moon. [00:07:32] Speaker A: No, he's gonna love it. [00:07:35] Speaker B: My Todd McFarlane impression's a little too Bill Cosby for my taste. [00:07:38] Speaker A: We got to the moon. Yeah. Sounds a little like Bill Cosby. [00:07:42] Speaker B: Oh, man. If the Todd father starts shilling for Jell O, next you get the spawn. [00:07:47] Speaker A: And the king spawn. [00:07:51] Speaker B: And you put him in the scorched. [00:07:55] Speaker A: We don't put him in the scorch. [00:07:56] Speaker B: No, we don't. [00:07:57] Speaker A: Spawn's not in scorch very often. [00:07:59] Speaker B: No. He shows up and yells. [00:08:02] Speaker A: Shows up and grumbles. [00:08:05] Speaker B: He's like, I touch you better than this. I'm leaving again. He pops in less than the toasty Mandev. Mortal Kombat. [00:08:13] Speaker A: The toasty man. Yeah. Of course, toasty. [00:08:17] Speaker B: He's a. You have to. You have to hit a certain combination of buttons to get spawned to pop up in the scorched. [00:08:24] Speaker A: Yeah, pretty much. [00:08:25] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:08:25] Speaker A: It's been a while since he popped in there. He hasn't. He hasn't shown his head. He's been busy since the big change. [00:08:31] Speaker B: Yeah, since the. Oh, shit. What is it even called? I forgot just now. The change. [00:08:38] Speaker A: No. Will they call it the change or the Flash? [00:08:40] Speaker B: The Flash. There we go. That's what it was. I was about to say. I remember making a whole bunch of flash jokes, but I don't know what we called it. [00:08:46] Speaker A: The Flash. Well, we might as well get into it with Kingspawn 34. [00:08:51] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [00:08:53] Speaker A: We start like we always do, with the covers. [00:08:57] Speaker B: Yes. Kingspawn continues to have some of the best covers in comics. It really does. [00:09:06] Speaker A: Yeah, they're pretty awesome. King Swan. Just that imagery of him on the throne and the crown, it's just like, there's a lot of. There's a lot of gold in their hills. [00:09:15] Speaker B: There's a lot of gold and then their hills that are alive. [00:09:17] Speaker A: The a cover is by Jason Shawn Alexander. [00:09:20] Speaker B: Mm hmm. That is. That is the one I'm rocking with because me too. We learned. We learned the. The hard way that you get the Jason Sean Alexander because it's awesome. You don't want to be. You don't want to be stuck with somebody else if you can avoid it. [00:09:35] Speaker A: His pundits in this issue are so good. [00:09:37] Speaker B: Oh, man, the art. [00:09:39] Speaker A: I can't wait to get to him. [00:09:40] Speaker B: Incredible. [00:09:41] Speaker A: Oh, the art and the issues. Awesome. And actually, you know what? We've been sour on King Swan. I like this one a little more. [00:09:47] Speaker B: Yeah. I. One part I very much didn't like. Probably because of me reading it at 930 at night the night before. [00:09:56] Speaker A: Hey, better than reading at 730 in the morning. The morning of. [00:10:01] Speaker B: Are we. Are we outing our own selves? [00:10:04] Speaker A: Yeah. Hey, man, this is a Saturday record. I had work last night. I was late. [00:10:08] Speaker B: Yeah, sorry about that. [00:10:09] Speaker A: That's okay. [00:10:11] Speaker B: I'd say sorry as if I'm the one who made you work late. I called you up and I was like, johnny, you have to stay till midnight. [00:10:16] Speaker A: No, you're the one that made me podcast. [00:10:19] Speaker B: Hey, hey, I'll cop to that. I'll cop to that. I did. I did continue to bother you and be like, hey, Johnny, are we actually gonna do this thing? Hey, Johnny, are we doing this thing? Yes, we're doing it, and we're doing it right now. Yeah. [00:10:34] Speaker A: So yeah. Jason Sean Alexander's cover is spawn on a throne. This cape kind of, like, spilling over, and he's just in the shadows. [00:10:43] Speaker B: Yeah, it's like you can't tell. You can't really tell exactly if it's a cape spillover or blood rivulets going out from the base of the throne. [00:10:54] Speaker A: Could be either. [00:10:55] Speaker B: Probably both, honestly. [00:10:57] Speaker A: Little bit of cape and blood. And I like, he's got the little king spawn logo crown above his head. [00:11:03] Speaker B: Yeah, that's, that's been a fun, I like how, how, like, bright it is. That's like, there's, like, a low level dungeon lighting, but then there's, the crown is the main light for the whole. It's real fun. And he's super spiky. Look at all those spikes. Ah. FCO placencia doing the colors on it too. Nice. [00:11:23] Speaker A: Oh, there you go. [00:11:24] Speaker B: Yeah. Part of why the cousins are so good. Yeah. Yeah. [00:11:27] Speaker A: I'm glad he got back. Jason Shawn Alexandria is quite a get. [00:11:30] Speaker B: Oh, man, he draws some spooky shit. [00:11:33] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. And then we have the b cover. [00:11:39] Speaker B: Von Randall, the, I I wish I had been able to do that. Which, which cover do I get so hard for this? Because it is a great von Randall cover. But, like, immediately I was like, jsa, gotta take that. Get that. But this von Randall cover, it's got, it's got spawn, and there's, he's got whole, got a medieval axe, and he's got his sword and he's crouching. [00:12:05] Speaker A: Axe has the spawn logo on it like it does. [00:12:07] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, man, it is so fucking cool. And he's crouching, like, next to a grave on a pile of skulls. [00:12:13] Speaker A: He's in the graveyard looking for Al Simmons corpse. [00:12:17] Speaker B: He just needs to go to Walmart and buy the action figure. [00:12:20] Speaker A: Joey by the action figure, all the kids favorite. [00:12:22] Speaker B: It'll have corpse popping action, and he won't even have to dig. [00:12:26] Speaker A: He's hit a button. [00:12:28] Speaker B: You won't have to dig with that face shovel the clown gave him, man. [00:12:34] Speaker A: After we watched the movie, I was looking at some small in the movie toys on eBay. I didn't buy any, but they're not that expensive. Might have to treat myself to the Al Simmons at one point. I always wanted that figure. [00:12:44] Speaker B: The Al Simmons else. [00:12:46] Speaker A: There's Al Simmons figure, and he comes with a little rocket launcher like we were talking about. [00:12:49] Speaker B: Oh, nice. The rocket launcher from the beginning. [00:12:51] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:12:52] Speaker B: It would be great if they had figured out a way to make it shoot little plastic rockets that you could give it targets so you could shoot both your mother and your sister at the same time. [00:13:03] Speaker A: That'd be quite a toy. [00:13:07] Speaker B: I would have gotten in trouble with that so quick. It would have gone on top of the fridge, and we would have forgotten about it. [00:13:12] Speaker A: It would have gotten full of dust. One time, we were at my grandma's house, and, like, eight years later, went on top of this cabinet, and there was a dusty old nerf gun that my dad had taken away from me when I was a kid, like, eight years before. And there's just a nerf gun, like, up on top of this dresser. [00:13:30] Speaker B: You must have not been snoopy enough, Johnny. I, for one, would always. I knew where all of the hiding spots were, and so I'd always, like, in the middle of the night, be like, hee hee hee hee. And I would go climb to the top of the cabinets. [00:13:44] Speaker A: What kind of stuff would they hide from you? [00:13:46] Speaker B: Just things that they would take away. Like, I would play with a toy. Wrong. Or I would hit my sister with it, or etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. [00:13:55] Speaker A: Or shoot her with a missile. [00:13:56] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. They're excellent covers for spot king spawn number 34 here. Two great tastes that are excellent. Good skull work on both. Oh, man. [00:14:11] Speaker A: Yeah, I like the skulls on the, on the chair. The hand rests with their really long jaws. [00:14:17] Speaker B: Yeah, they have kind of that one skeleton from the skeleton army in army of darkness that they focus in on his face, and he just opens his jaw wider than you think a skeleton should open its jaw. [00:14:32] Speaker A: So we pop it open like a jaw. Like a jaw. Unhinge it. And we got the credits. The script plot by Todd McFarlane. The one, the only, art by Jason Shaw. Alexander, as we mentioned, the one, the only, color by Ivan Nunes, lettering by Anworld Design. We already covered the covers, and we've got creative director is Todd McFarlane, and editor in chief is Thomas Healy. Previously in King Spawn. Spawn's confrontation with Kruger leads to the angel's death, and a new mission to rescue Granny Blake begins. There it is. [00:15:08] Speaker B: Yep. That's what happened. Yep. [00:15:12] Speaker A: He definitely led to his death. He killed a lot of people. Last issue, he. [00:15:16] Speaker B: Oh, geez. Yeah, the. The last issue, bloodbath. Absolute mayhem. [00:15:22] Speaker A: For those who don't remember. That was the issue that was told out of time and all weird, where he, like, ripped people's teeth out and shot a rocket launcher and just blew. [00:15:30] Speaker B: Up a bomb device, where he would bomb device. Where he would reference. Reference the use of weapons that he hadn't yet mentioned that he had. And you're like, wait, the rocket launcher? What? [00:15:44] Speaker A: Yeah. So he's coming back from Germany, from. That is where we open. [00:15:48] Speaker B: Picks up, like, literally, he gets on a plane at the end of that one. Yeah. Seconds later, he's across the. Across the Atlantic. I should take King Spawn airlines. Johnny. Jesus. Can you imagine flying from Germany to. Where is that? New York in seconds. [00:16:05] Speaker A: I don't mean flew in seconds. I mean, like, it takes place, like, not that long after, but it's immediate. [00:16:11] Speaker B: Johnny, you go from one issue to the next. It's immediate. [00:16:14] Speaker A: That's true. He just flew right there. [00:16:17] Speaker B: Could you imagine flying that fast? You would. They'd have to, like, chisel you out of your chair. [00:16:24] Speaker A: I think he would die. [00:16:25] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, I mean, he's already dead, so. [00:16:28] Speaker A: But everyone else on the plane would die. [00:16:29] Speaker B: He'd be the lone survivor. [00:16:31] Speaker A: Yep. [00:16:32] Speaker B: They'd make a television series out of him, and they'd hire JJ Abrams to do it. [00:16:36] Speaker A: I don't remember Lone survivor. I remember that was a show, though. [00:16:39] Speaker B: I was trying to make a lost reference, but, yeah, lone. [00:16:43] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:16:44] Speaker B: Isn't. Oh, wait, I guess there's a movie. Survivors. [00:16:47] Speaker A: Lone survivors. A movie. Oh, there's tons of survivors in lost. What the fuck are you talking about? [00:16:51] Speaker B: It's, like, 42 characters. I thought Hurley was the only one. [00:16:54] Speaker A: That survived, like, the show. Yeah, no, plenty of people survived the. [00:17:00] Speaker B: Show because I thought it all took place in his brain. [00:17:03] Speaker A: No. [00:17:04] Speaker B: Oh, are you serious? As somebody who never watched Lost and only kind of bits and pieces, I really thought that it was all a fever dream from Hurley. [00:17:17] Speaker A: No, that was a theory, but no. [00:17:20] Speaker B: Okay, well, I guess I should probably watch lust, then. [00:17:23] Speaker A: It's on Netflix now. It's having a resurgence. It's having a moment. [00:17:28] Speaker B: Johnny. It's always having a moment when you're involved. [00:17:33] Speaker A: I love lost. [00:17:34] Speaker B: Great show. I really should watch it. We would be able to have such better conversations if I knew lost. [00:17:41] Speaker A: Yeah, we could switch to a lost podcast. [00:17:45] Speaker B: We could just tuck it in. We could do two issues of Spawn in an episode of lost. [00:17:49] Speaker A: Oh, my God. That'd be, like, two hour, 30 minutes episodes. [00:17:53] Speaker B: Hey, man, you got to give the people what they need. They need lost Spawn. [00:17:58] Speaker A: Who knew they needed him together? [00:18:00] Speaker B: You did, Johnny. You're the one who brought this beautiful magic into the world. [00:18:04] Speaker A: So, Spawn, Al Simmons is riding on a plane, and the toddfather decides to lay out the facts. [00:18:11] Speaker B: Yeah, he does. He. He's doing like I do when I write an email. That's supposed to be very clear. Here we go. Bullet point one. [00:18:20] Speaker A: Yes. [00:18:21] Speaker B: Group of angels, now turned Myrtle kidnapped someone very dear to Al Simmons. Granny Blake. Number two. That same group made it seem like one of their opponents had done the kidnapping. That that man was named Kruger. Three, Al Simmons wanted to know where the person who kidnapped Granny Blake was. Number four, Simmons killed Krueger after he got his answers, naturally. Number five, the group that wanted Krueger out of the way also had a friend of Simmons shot. And those are the five things we know now. [00:18:53] Speaker A: Simon's keys. Get back to America without getting caught. Yeah, it arrives. Also, they smell granny with an ie. Is that, like, a canadian thing? [00:19:01] Speaker B: I honestly don't know. Because it goes back and forth, doesn't it? Because isn't it originally spelled with a y? [00:19:07] Speaker A: I think it's spelled with a. Yeah, yeah, I think. [00:19:09] Speaker B: I think it. I think it's just inconsistencies. [00:19:12] Speaker A: Must be a canadian thing. I'm gonna blame. Blame Canada. [00:19:15] Speaker B: Blame Canada. [00:19:17] Speaker A: And Al Simmons is getting off the plane. He's got one of those nice little neck pillows. That's fun. [00:19:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:19:22] Speaker A: And he's going under an alias. He's got a fake passport. Jamiah Zabriel Williams. [00:19:27] Speaker B: I like that. This series of panels is just like. It's like Al Simmons stays still, and the background just changes. [00:19:35] Speaker A: Yeah, pretty cool. [00:19:35] Speaker B: He's in an Uber, and he's driving around the town at night. And then he goes to a park bench in the middle of the night, and he meets Cyan there. [00:19:45] Speaker A: Cyan there? Yeah. He's basically catching up with her, making sure she's heard about her dad getting hurt. [00:19:51] Speaker B: Mm hmm. [00:19:52] Speaker A: He's asking her if she lost her powers. She doesn't know. [00:19:55] Speaker B: Yeah, we know she didn't. Yeah, we depends on. Okay, yes. [00:19:59] Speaker A: I guess it depends on when misery takes place. Don't they mention her kidnapping, though? [00:20:03] Speaker B: I don't know. I'd have to read it again. [00:20:06] Speaker A: They do. [00:20:07] Speaker B: We'll have to read it again for when we cover it on the podcast. [00:20:10] Speaker A: Yes. [00:20:11] Speaker B: Which will be sometime soon. I'm not entirely sure, but, yeah. So Cyan hasn't gone to go see her father because, a, well, her and Terry don't get along very well. And b, she's still wanted from the cops. From some stuff she did back in issues 267 to 271. [00:20:31] Speaker A: Issues we haven't covered. [00:20:33] Speaker B: Yeah, those are. Isn't it something about a. Like a rehab center? [00:20:38] Speaker A: Yeah. That's where she meets Yoko, right? [00:20:41] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:20:42] Speaker A: I don't know. We'll get there. We will maybe get there. [00:20:46] Speaker B: Well, we'll get there. That's. That's like, in ten or so years of podcasts. [00:20:53] Speaker A: Oh, my God. [00:20:55] Speaker B: Don't think of it, Johnny. Don't think of the yawning ma, of hiss, of the future that's just open before us. So Al's trying to make sure that he could count on Cyan for some stuff. And he's like, you gotta go see your pops. And she's like, yeah. So Al's like, I'm also gonna need to depend on you in the future, because they got somebody that we both care about. Granny Blake. And she says, for granny, hell, yeah. Count me in. Al is back in recruiting mode. He's getting the team back together slowly. [00:21:28] Speaker A: Getting some people together. Yeah. [00:21:30] Speaker B: Crosstown. We have. I'm still not entirely sure who these guys are aligned with. I guess these are just, is this a, is this another mob subplot, Johnny? [00:21:39] Speaker A: It could be. I don't know. [00:21:41] Speaker B: I don't know. [00:21:43] Speaker A: Angels? [00:21:44] Speaker B: Yeah, but, but we got a. Yeah. [00:21:47] Speaker A: I think there are other angels. He's like, some of those people will make him home. Let's make sure we get most of them. [00:21:51] Speaker B: Okay, but we got, we got a boss. [00:21:53] Speaker A: I didn't even realize Kruger was an angel until this issue. [00:21:56] Speaker B: Me either. [00:21:58] Speaker A: I don't know if it's mentioned before. [00:21:59] Speaker B: It's been a wild few issues. Uh, maybe it was implied because, well, because they, okay. They did have, like, the, the secret. [00:22:07] Speaker A: Boardroom, but they didn't really explain who they were. [00:22:09] Speaker B: I. Yeah. Huh. I don't know. Very interesting. [00:22:14] Speaker A: Retcon. It's a retcon I'm getting on the Internet. [00:22:17] Speaker B: If it's. If it's spawn related, it should probably be a retcon. [00:22:22] Speaker A: Yeah. Or spawn con. [00:22:25] Speaker B: That's a, that's, that's something else, Johnny. [00:22:28] Speaker A: Spawn con made to the big leagues. It's in. Spawn kills everyone. [00:22:31] Speaker B: Yeah, indeed. It's. It's where. It's the inciting incident for, for the series. [00:22:38] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:22:39] Speaker B: It's what drives little, chippy, cute spawn with the belly to be upset. Much like the inciting incident in the original. Spawn kills everyone. One shot from 2016. [00:22:51] Speaker A: I was surprised Tom McFarlane didn't make him call it comic Spawn. There was a live chat where someone asked him if he was going to be at Spawn Con, and he said, they should have called it comic Spawn. [00:23:06] Speaker B: I bet there was, like, a three hour long meeting that was just Spawn con. Comic Spawn, Spawn con. [00:23:13] Speaker A: Spawn con is way better. [00:23:15] Speaker B: And then they had to, like, call somebody. Like, call somebody they know who doesn't really care about Spawn and be like, I've got two options. You need to choose one of them. [00:23:24] Speaker A: Which one sounds better? [00:23:25] Speaker B: Which one sounds better? Yeah, we got a. The boss sitting behind a desk talking about, you know, what just happened. You know, Kruger's out of the way. What to do now that blood's out of the way. And he's like, make sure we get some of those guys, the bloodhead. [00:23:39] Speaker A: And there's a great background of, like, this awesome vampire. [00:23:42] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, man. [00:23:44] Speaker A: A little Kiladelphia influence. [00:23:46] Speaker B: So they're also saying that they need to make sure that they provide enough goodwill with Jason Blood that he takes his time in trying to kill them. So that way, by the time he actually gets around. [00:24:00] Speaker A: James, not Jason blood. [00:24:03] Speaker B: Sorry. I don't know where I got that from. But anyway, so they want to be. Damn it. No, I forgot what I was saying. They want to be so low on Blood's shit list that by the time blood gets around to killing them, they can just throw spawn at him and be like, here, take this. Instead of. So. So their plan is to. It's. It's. It's. They're waiting. They're waiting. They're laying back in the cut, Johnny. They're like, let's be forgotten about a little bit. [00:24:34] Speaker A: Yeah. But little do they know, Spawn already knows where Granny Blake is, and he's coming for. And he's got this badass gun with, like, a hexagon around it. Yeah, it's like a futuristic looking kind of shotgun thing. [00:24:48] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. It's crazy. And he's got his. He's got his katanas. [00:24:52] Speaker A: Looks pretty badass. [00:24:53] Speaker B: Yeah, and he's got his. He's got his. His belts and his pouches and his bandolier. [00:25:00] Speaker A: Love the new scarf. Look. [00:25:02] Speaker B: It's dope. This is a great. This is a great spawn. They should make a poster of this. We learn a little bit of Spawn's tenacity here. And once he gets something, once he. He doesn't stop chewing, once he gets his. Once he gets his teeth into a bone, he's just gonna. [00:25:18] Speaker A: There's nothing left. He's gonna gnaw that bone. We cut to granny Blake kidnapped. Sick, sick. [00:25:28] Speaker B: And this jerk face next to her being like, whatever, lady. [00:25:33] Speaker A: Whatever, lady. I'm not getting any medicine. [00:25:34] Speaker B: What a jerk this guy is. Yeah, it's like, you don't have. You don't have any medicine. Shush it. And she's like, I can tell you where to get some. [00:25:42] Speaker A: She says, I don't understand any of this. [00:25:45] Speaker B: Yeah, poor Granny Blake. [00:25:47] Speaker A: Yeah, she's just confused. [00:25:48] Speaker B: Yeah. And then jerk face comes out. Or, like, closes. And locks the door behind him that Granny Blake is in. And he meets his partner. And his partner is just like, hey, dude, my job is to guard this door. Your job is to take care of the old lady. If the old lady dies, I don't get paid. So go get her her fucking medicine. He's like, it's simple. Just do the shit. [00:26:11] Speaker A: Dress like reservoir dogs. [00:26:13] Speaker B: Yeah. This little two panel thing here of the dude just, like, blowing the smoke in the air and casually throwing the cigarette away is so motherfucking cool. [00:26:24] Speaker A: Yeah, it is. [00:26:25] Speaker B: After smoking man tells his partner that he's a dummy and needs to do his job, the dummy is like, yeah, fine. Fuck you. I'll go do my job. So he's walking out of the building, walking down a hallway. Until he comes to a set of doors that shouldn't be closed. Johnny. [00:26:43] Speaker A: And then, crack. Wham. Spawn kicks his way through. [00:26:47] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:26:48] Speaker A: And we turn the page to a badass fight. [00:26:51] Speaker B: Fight. Yeah. Cause spawn's like, where is. Where is she? And holds a gun to this dude's head. And the dude's just like, wha. [00:26:58] Speaker A: He just thunks the gun out of his hand. Just, like, punches him in the handheld. [00:27:02] Speaker B: Yeah. He really quickly gets the upper hand on old Albert Simmons. [00:27:07] Speaker A: Yep. No powers. [00:27:09] Speaker B: No powers. Al Simmons is very, very upset about that. He's like, God damn it, I know better. Twelve minutes later. [00:27:18] Speaker A: Twelve minutes later, Todd loves his exact time. [00:27:22] Speaker B: Twelve minutes later, we're back at the door with the smoking man. And he's like, huh? There's some people here. And there's some people there that are there to meet the. The other guy. [00:27:34] Speaker A: Because he called some friends to. [00:27:37] Speaker B: He called some backup. He was like, hey, I need help doing this thing. So these guys show up, and then as soon as they show up, they hear sounds of a scuffle going on down the hallway where dude. Dude, who's going to get Granny Blake's medicine went. So they all drill their guns, and they walk down the same hallway. To the exact same closed door that's not supposed to be closed. [00:28:01] Speaker A: Johnny Spawn gets good use out of that door. [00:28:04] Speaker B: It's like he's jigsaw, and he's reset his trap. [00:28:07] Speaker A: Yeah, pretty much. [00:28:09] Speaker B: And then he does the same thing. [00:28:10] Speaker A: He does the same thing. He just fucking kicks it open. [00:28:14] Speaker B: Just bam. We get a little bit of strategy talk here about how, you know, he was hoping it was only gonna be one guy, but now that it's three he's gotta make the surprise count for as much as it's worth. And we get to see, we get to see a rare bottom of the foot Johnny. [00:28:31] Speaker A: Yeah. And he's wearing regular, like, combat boots. [00:28:34] Speaker B: Yeah, he's wearing his regular old combat ease. [00:28:36] Speaker A: Well, as regular as they can be. With, like, spikes on them. [00:28:38] Speaker B: Yeah. And hella buckles. [00:28:41] Speaker A: Yeah. Pretty cool boots. [00:28:43] Speaker B: They are pretty cool. [00:28:44] Speaker A: That's a great two page spread from Jason Sean Alexander, where he's just fucking bursting out of the scene. [00:28:49] Speaker B: Yeah. And he's just kicking and punching the guys out of the way. And there's this one guy in the back that he just, like, throws over his shoulder. [00:28:56] Speaker A: He's, like, flying like a rag doll. [00:28:58] Speaker B: He totally, this is totally where they would put the Wilhelm scream. Yeah. [00:29:05] Speaker A: Looks like the agent Smith fight from, like, the matrix is. They're all dressed like Smith or reservoir dogs. [00:29:12] Speaker B: And then we get a little bit of spawn's inner monologue going on here. You know, these guys. These guys fucking deserve it. They took a helpless old woman, and they laughed at her predicament. They don't care. So that's what fuels spawn's anger. [00:29:29] Speaker A: And then Spawn does this badass move where he snaps a dude neck, which sends the guy's gun flying. [00:29:34] Speaker B: Uh huh. [00:29:35] Speaker A: And then spawn snatches it out of the air and shoots the other guys. [00:29:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Awesome. [00:29:40] Speaker A: Then we get the beautiful, beautiful pundits. [00:29:44] Speaker B: The greatest pundits of all time, at least in image. I could not understand what the hell was being said on this page, Johnny. [00:29:53] Speaker A: I was just looking at the pictures. Yeah. [00:29:55] Speaker B: I read it six times and was like, what did I read? Let me read it again. That didn't make sense. Let me read it again. Really? Yeah. I didn't get it. Like I said, probably the me reading it on the couch at 930 at. [00:30:13] Speaker A: Night, but, well, basically the crn lady saying, like, where have all these vigilantes gone? Why aren't they fighting? Why don't we see any more events with them? The e entertainment, he's, like, questioning, is this mean they're done? Have they de escalated? Or does it mean that they've gone underground? [00:30:30] Speaker B: And then I understood what Brock the shock was saying. Absolutely. [00:30:34] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, you can. He's easy to understand. [00:30:36] Speaker B: So the, the real, the real thing is, the crn lady's second paragraph is what I read the most, and I couldn't make heads or tails of it, and it spoiled the whole page for me, which is why I didn't understand what was going on. [00:30:49] Speaker A: Yeah, that second paragraph here's doesn't make a lot of sense, but. [00:30:55] Speaker B: It should probably be two sentences. Yeah, but, no, the pundits are phenomenal. Look at those. Look at them. I love how. I love how Brock, the shock's got, like, a little. A little bit of a pigpen haze around him. [00:31:11] Speaker A: Yeah, he's just, like, spitting, just, like. [00:31:13] Speaker B: Throwing dust and everything. Boy, don't let yourself be deceived. And then we cut to a two page spread of another big Todd father thing. It's tactic talks time. Tactics. Talk time. Johnny. [00:31:29] Speaker A: Tactics time. Tactics. Talk. [00:31:31] Speaker B: Tactics. Tactics. Talk time. Wow, that's a. That's a tough one. That's a. You should use that for when you warm up before. Yeah, you do a show, Johnny. Tactic, tactime. Tactic. [00:31:43] Speaker A: Tactic, talk time. [00:31:45] Speaker B: So. So Spawn is. Spawn is lying in wait for some more goons to show up, and he's talking about an ancient roman strategy of, you know, using the. Where they're gonna attack from the surprise attack to your advantage. And as long as you. As long as confusion reigns, you're doing it right, Johnny. [00:32:07] Speaker A: And he's hanging upside down and just, like, pops down and cuts the two dudes heads off. [00:32:11] Speaker B: Yeah. Just in one fell swoop. Just whoop. Both of their heads go, whoop. It's like he's, like. He's doing Highlander, and he's taking out a couple of the. [00:32:18] Speaker A: Taking out a couple other guys. There could be only one. [00:32:21] Speaker B: Yeah, he's. We're just waiting until the final showdown between him and Clancy Brown. Johnny, another. Another toddfather. Deliver the kill in quotes. What? Why is kill in quotes? [00:32:35] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:32:39] Speaker B: That's literally. He didn't metaphorically kill them. [00:32:44] Speaker A: He killed them. [00:32:45] Speaker B: He straight up chopped their heads up. [00:32:47] Speaker A: And they fall to the floor with a thud and a thump. [00:32:49] Speaker B: Oh, boy. He. And then he. He falls to the floor too. Johnny in a super cool action hero pose. [00:32:57] Speaker A: Yep. [00:32:58] Speaker B: And then when he's done, he just marches over to the door, opens it up, and he finds greater plank. Who is it? Who's there? [00:33:07] Speaker A: We got our opening quote that she sent him, and he said God wouldn't leave her alone if she's too important to heaven. [00:33:13] Speaker B: Absolutely. [00:33:14] Speaker A: Little do you know, heaven's the one that kidnapped you. [00:33:18] Speaker B: Well, I mean, to protect her, he tells her a bunch of lies. [00:33:21] Speaker A: Yes, of course. [00:33:23] Speaker B: And they're walking through the hallway of carnage. And Granny Blake was like, those men that had me. Did you tell them we're leaving? You should probably tell them we're leaving. And he's like, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. [00:33:34] Speaker A: Imagine getting her through that room. He's like, just a little to the right, a little to the left. Don't step on any of these bodies. [00:33:39] Speaker B: I mean, I can't imagine that granny Blake's sense of smell is so bad that she doesn't immediately smell blood and death. Blood. Blood. I don't know. I don't know if you've ever bled a lot, Johnny, but blood's got a very distinctive smell. [00:33:55] Speaker A: It does. And she calls Al her angel. You're my angel, Al. [00:34:00] Speaker B: Just call him angel of the Granny Blake. [00:34:07] Speaker A: Did you ever see it? Chapter two. [00:34:09] Speaker B: I did not know. [00:34:10] Speaker A: There's one part in that movie which is so fucking weird, where one of the dudes like going through this house and like he. Some corpse falls on it, like vomits on him or something. And it plays like 10 seconds of that song while it's happening, and it stops. He goes, you're my angel, my morning angel. And it's like, it. It's so fucking weird. That movie is fucking weird. [00:34:35] Speaker B: I've been meaning to watch it, though. [00:34:37] Speaker A: I don't know if you need to. [00:34:39] Speaker B: Don't. Oh, okay. [00:34:40] Speaker A: They cg the kids, like. Cause the kids. Cause it takes. Because they filmed it like a few years after to make. They do a lot of flashbacks to the kids, which you think they wouldn't do because the whole point was the first one was the kids, the second one's the adults. They do all these flashbacks to the kids, I guess because they're so popular in the first one, and they like CG. Smooth them so they look the same. It's so fucking weird. [00:35:02] Speaker B: They spent too long wondering if they could. That they didn't think about whether they should. Johnny. [00:35:07] Speaker A: Yeah? Tell that to fucking alien Romulus. It was a good movie. [00:35:11] Speaker B: I was about to say I thought. I thought that was good. I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard nothing but good things. [00:35:16] Speaker A: There's one thing that is really weird that they do. Okay, I won't say cuz I don't want to spoil it. [00:35:24] Speaker B: It's gonna be spoiled for me before I get around to seeing it. But we won't. We won't spoil it for the. [00:35:29] Speaker A: No, this is a spoiler warning. Raring spoiler country. Okay, so this is a spoiler warning for alien Romulus. If you don't want to hear it, go a couple minutes ahead. But I'll be fast so you don't have to go too far ahead. They bring back Ian Holm. [00:35:44] Speaker B: What? [00:35:45] Speaker A: Who's dead. [00:35:46] Speaker B: What? [00:35:48] Speaker A: They use a they use AI to create his voice. And he's like in it. And he's not just in like one scene, he's in like the whole movie. It's fucking weird. And it's weird that no one talks about it. And the only reason people don't talk about it, so don't want to spoil the movie. But I thought it was really stupid. It should have just been a new british actor playing a robot. [00:36:07] Speaker B: Yeah, they could have just, he could. [00:36:09] Speaker A: Have been, it's just, it's supposed to be a robot that's the same model as him, like they always do. But it's like, don't use him. Yeah, he's dead. Yeah, use Lance Herkinson or something. Yeah, he's alive. Use Michael Fassbender. There's plenty of robots in those fucking movies. [00:36:26] Speaker B: Geez, that's so spoiler alert for bury your gays by Chuck Tingle. That's literally what the book is about. It is about they make AI to the point where it can recreate dead people or create physical manifestations of fictitious items. And they perform the way they do in the fiction. And so there's, there's this young writer guy who won't do what the studio wants him to. And so they make actual versions of his horror characters. And they just go around LA and they try to kill him and all of his friends. [00:37:07] Speaker A: Oh, wow. [00:37:08] Speaker B: It's wild. It's a good book. Chuck tingle. Love is real. [00:37:11] Speaker A: Alien Romulus was good, but they pushed it with that dead actor. [00:37:15] Speaker B: It just looks, just get an actor. Just get a new actor. [00:37:21] Speaker A: Come on, come on. Don't use AI voice and shit. [00:37:24] Speaker B: Did you not watch, did you not watch the Terminator movies, people? Did you, did you not watch the Terminator movies? Literally what the whole thing is about, don't let, don't let the robots, don't let them. [00:37:36] Speaker A: Don't let them kick over. [00:37:37] Speaker B: Don't give them the power. [00:37:39] Speaker A: Oh, I thought you were going to talk about the bad CGD aging in that one. [00:37:42] Speaker B: Oh, no, no, I'm talking about the fact that the, the AI takes over and it's like, oh, you know what? Fuck humanity. [00:37:48] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, we're gonna have to, they're gonna be using AI movies for effects a lot, I bet. [00:37:54] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, I mean. Cause then you don't have to pay. You don't have to pay people. [00:37:59] Speaker A: Exactly. That's what I'm gonna use to write my next play. I just use Google Gemini. [00:38:05] Speaker B: It's gonna be half advertisement. [00:38:08] Speaker A: Well, then we get the King swan logo. As the issue ends and on the spawning ground, we get some photos from the Calgary fan. Expo 2024 with Todd and his father, Bob McFarlane. [00:38:19] Speaker B: Yeah, Todd's father. [00:38:20] Speaker A: The Todd's father. Father. [00:38:22] Speaker B: This dude. This dude looks so excited. Look at him. He's. I like the one where he's sticking his tongue out. [00:38:29] Speaker A: He's just like, yeah, no, I guess it's fun that he gets his dad involved. [00:38:34] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, the best part of it is that his dad is into it. His dad's just like, hey, that's awesome. I like his. I like his piano scarf and. [00:38:46] Speaker A: Yeah, that's pretty cool. [00:38:47] Speaker B: His dad is well dressed. Look at his coat. And he's got that cowboy hat in his hands. Shit. [00:38:51] Speaker A: He's also got a Todd McFarlane swan shirt in that one picture. [00:38:54] Speaker B: Yeah, I can't. I can't tell if that's a. Like, a crew shirt from the show. [00:39:00] Speaker A: It looks like it's from the show. Yeah, he probably got it for him. [00:39:04] Speaker B: Vintage, or he probably got it for him new. And he's just an old man, so he. [00:39:10] Speaker A: That's what I mean. It's vintage now. He got new. [00:39:12] Speaker B: Oh. Oh, I thought you were saying that. But he just got it recently because Todd was like, well, look at this thing that I found in the back. [00:39:20] Speaker A: No, he. He probably has had it since the show. [00:39:24] Speaker B: He's playing the harmonica. Todd's face there is like, can I move the mic now? Is he done? Is he done? [00:39:35] Speaker A: Is he done with Harmonica? [00:39:39] Speaker B: That looks like it was a fun time. [00:39:40] Speaker A: Yeah, looks good. [00:39:41] Speaker B: Well, Johnny, do you need more spawns? Universe? [00:39:44] Speaker A: You know it. [00:39:44] Speaker B: They apparently got some for us here, and they got a. What's that? They got scorch hash 30 coming in June 2024. Well, we can't wait for that, Johnny. That's so far away from now. [00:39:53] Speaker A: No, we're gonna cover it now. It's next. [00:39:58] Speaker B: The image classics ad that we've been getting into. The fallout is the toy ad. [00:40:03] Speaker A: Yep. Let's get Spawn 34. Ask Kingspawn 34. Long live the king. [00:40:09] Speaker B: Yeah, pretty good. [00:40:11] Speaker A: Yeah. You know, I was saying, like, we've been sour on King Spawn, but I did like this one better. [00:40:16] Speaker B: I liked it better the subsequent times than I did the first time I read it, I think. [00:40:22] Speaker A: Yeah, I did too. [00:40:23] Speaker B: I think I'm getting around to adjusting my expectations, because when I've been going into these, I've been keeping my king spawn expectations up at initial king spawn levels. [00:40:36] Speaker A: And that's gotta bring it down a little bit. You gotta go. I gotta level. [00:40:40] Speaker B: Yeah, gotta moderate. [00:40:52] Speaker A: All right, so next up, we're shifting gears from King Spawn to scorched. [00:40:56] Speaker B: Mm hmm. To that very scorched 30. We were just talking about Johnny scorched. [00:41:01] Speaker A: 30 from June 2024. [00:41:03] Speaker B: It's never too far from our minds. Scorched? [00:41:07] Speaker A: No, it's always there, like a good. Like a good friend, like. [00:41:11] Speaker B: Like a good neighbor. Scorch thirty's there. [00:41:15] Speaker A: Scorch 30 is there. [00:41:17] Speaker B: Oh, Jesus. I got the wrong cover again, Johnny. [00:41:20] Speaker A: Yeah, I did too. [00:41:21] Speaker B: Holy fuck. I don't. I didn't even see this one. This must have been one of those weeks where I was short on time and I was like, I just gotta get my books and go. No, no piddling here. Jesus Christ. I am frightened. [00:41:33] Speaker A: That freak is all freaky. He looks like the fucking misfits fiend. [00:41:37] Speaker B: Yeah, he looks like the fiend got shot in the forehead. [00:41:40] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:41:41] Speaker B: Fuck me. [00:41:43] Speaker A: A good cover, which we have. [00:41:45] Speaker B: Yes. [00:41:45] Speaker A: Is by Kevin Keen. [00:41:47] Speaker B: It is. It is a good cover. It is the scorched team in all their glory. [00:41:53] Speaker A: Jessica's legs looking fucking possible. What the hell is going on there? [00:41:56] Speaker B: Oh, Johnny, she's a fucking. She's a assassin imbued with the attributes of hell. Her legs are, of course, gonna be impossible. [00:42:06] Speaker A: She can do whatever she wants. [00:42:08] Speaker B: Yeah, or you literally. You literally got goo guy in front of her. It's true. [00:42:14] Speaker A: I was just confused on, like, if it was her butt or her other leg, and I think it's her other leg. [00:42:19] Speaker B: I see it now, now that I'm. Now that I've. Now that I've been a jerk about it towards you. I concede your point, Johnny. [00:42:27] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. [00:42:28] Speaker B: A little weird. A little. A little trippy. [00:42:30] Speaker A: A little trippy on the legs, but that's okay. The rest of it's cool. But you got gunslinger haunt Jessica and medieval. Even though gunslinger hasn't been in the scorch for a while. [00:42:41] Speaker B: Yeah. No, he done left. He's like, I got my own problems. [00:42:44] Speaker A: Yo, yo, I gotta go to the bank. [00:42:48] Speaker B: I gotta go to the bank and not know how to interact with people in the real world. He's a terrible spy, Johnny. Yes. Terrible spy. Oh, boy. [00:43:01] Speaker A: Yeah, that ends up really well for him. And, like, the cops come and blow up the hotel. [00:43:05] Speaker B: It's like he's never watched a James Bond movie, Johnny. He doesn't know how to be subtle. [00:43:10] Speaker A: He needs to hang out with Charlotte Lynn and watch some James Bond movies. [00:43:13] Speaker B: Yeah, for real. Although he probably won't have much of a chance anymore. Well, I guess I'm, you know, Charlotte Lynn proper. Yes. Charlotte Lynn herself. Garganzo. [00:43:24] Speaker A: But yeah, the viscerator might like a James Bond movie, though. [00:43:27] Speaker B: Yeah. But I don't, I don't know how much she, she's in a lot of trouble at the end of this issue. [00:43:33] Speaker A: Yeah. Jason Wynn's pretty mad at her. [00:43:36] Speaker B: He is, he is upset. But then, then the, the b cover. [00:43:40] Speaker A: The one we miss out on is. [00:43:42] Speaker B: A Jonathan Glapion cover. So instant seal of quality there. The Jonathan signature. And it's just the freak. And it is the freakiest the freak has ever looked. [00:43:55] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:43:56] Speaker B: And he's red and he's staring right at you. And. [00:44:02] Speaker A: You know, it's probably reminds me of those illustrations and scary stories to tell in the dark. [00:44:08] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Yeah, it does. [00:44:09] Speaker A: It's all kind of stringy like that. [00:44:11] Speaker B: Yeah. It's probably for the best because I have a feeling if I had this copy of the issue, anytime I brought it out to look at it or read it, somebody would be like, ah, get that out of here. [00:44:22] Speaker A: Scary. [00:44:23] Speaker B: Could you imagine trying to read that on the train? Like all the little old ladies would be like, could you please put that away? Why do you have that? Put it away. [00:44:33] Speaker A: It's evil. I saw a video of a lady in Costco yelling at the Halloween decorations. There's a big movable skeleton or werewolf or something. And she was like, devil, devil. [00:44:45] Speaker B: There was a, somebody on Reddit had posted a picture of a customer complaint letter that was sent to the offices of, I think it was dollar general about talking about how, how dare they have the Halloween decorations out so early. But also how dare they have Halloween decorations out at all since it celebrates the lord of darkness, Satan. And I'm not gonna shop here until you get rid of all Halloween stuff forever. And I'm gonna tell my friends and family not to shop here. It was a wild, unhinged letter. [00:45:30] Speaker A: That is wild. [00:45:31] Speaker B: Yeah. Halloween's great. Halloween. [00:45:33] Speaker A: Halloween's fun. Come on, let's have Halloween. [00:45:36] Speaker B: A little bit of Satan is good for everybody. [00:45:39] Speaker A: Yeah. It's coming up on spooky season. [00:45:41] Speaker B: It is very exciting. They've got a. Lowe's is getting into the Halloween decoration. [00:45:47] Speaker A: Yes. I saw Lowe's with Bran the other day and they had a giant fucking skeleton. [00:45:51] Speaker B: Yeah. And they're, they have a series this year that's based off of the haunted mansion characters. [00:45:59] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:46:00] Speaker B: So they've got like a, I think they've got the hat box ghosts. They've got suits of armor. I think they have a doom buggy. Yeah. Yeah, it's awesome. Very excited. I love. I love walking cousco around during the fall and checking out all the Halloween decorations, making him sit next to the decorations and taking pictures of him. [00:46:23] Speaker A: He doesn't get scared, does he? [00:46:25] Speaker B: No. No, he's too dumb to get scared. Are you kidding me? This dude doesn't know what's going on. Most of the time, he just barrels through life. [00:46:36] Speaker A: Hey, if we could all be so lucky. [00:46:38] Speaker B: Well, Johnny, we're lucky enough that we get to open a scorched here. [00:46:41] Speaker A: We get to barrel through this issue of Scorch. [00:46:44] Speaker B: We got the credits here. Script plop by John Layman with additional script by Todd McFarland. Art by Steven Segovia. It's amazing this time around. It's always good. But there's something special about the Steven Segovia in this issue, I think. Colors by Robert Nugenthenne, lettering by andworld, design cover the covers. Creative director Todd McFarlane and editor in chief Thomas Healy. And previously in the Scorched. The scorched team had been captured by Jason Nguyen, leaving their rescue to Mark Rosen. [00:47:19] Speaker A: And we cut to a month before the current action. [00:47:24] Speaker B: Yes. And there's literally. There's literally some metal gear solid going on here, Johnny. [00:47:31] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Tactical espionage action. [00:47:33] Speaker B: Yes. And Jessica is. Is teaching Mark how to be an operative in the field. And Mark's like, oh, you're the operative? I'm just tech. I do computers. I do journalism lady. [00:47:51] Speaker A: But she's gotta. She thinks he's gotta fight for himself. Cause what if. [00:47:54] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:47:54] Speaker A: He's the only one left. [00:47:56] Speaker B: She's like. She's like, so this is how you break someone's neck. Kink. [00:47:59] Speaker A: Yeah. Talk about learning on the job. [00:48:00] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, we get a little bit of, you know, Mark's like, you know, when. When I was, you know, forced into the same body with medieval, I just let him take over. And there's a little example of how well. How well medieval does in a combat situation. [00:48:18] Speaker A: Pretty well. He's got his sword and his hammer. [00:48:20] Speaker B: Uh huh. And then we cut back down to the action at hand. Jessica's like, okay, you gotta keep the gun out and up. [00:48:28] Speaker A: Mark's got a cool espionage hat. [00:48:30] Speaker B: Yeah. He's got. It's a. It's like a. It's like the universal facilities worker hat. [00:48:36] Speaker A: Yeah, he looks like he's like. He's, like, dressed up as a dock worker. [00:48:38] Speaker B: Yeah. They're hanging outside this. This open door of this warehouse that's just filled with all kinds of goons that are, you know, they got drugs, they got guns, they got baseball bats. [00:48:49] Speaker A: We found out later they have people. [00:48:51] Speaker B: Mm hmm. And Jessica just barrels in there and starts throwing daggers around dudes. Mark's just like hanging out at the door being like, oh, oh, okay. He does that action movie, you know, person, first time with the gun and being attacked and he's just like closes his eyes and turns away and shoots and lands a headshot on this one guy. And then he's like, oh, okay, I guess I can do this. [00:49:23] Speaker A: And Jessica says he's definitely improving. [00:49:26] Speaker B: Yeah, they needed stopping, I needed training. Win win. Mark is so horrified by what he's just done. Oh boy, poor Mark. [00:49:37] Speaker A: But then they crack open a storage crate and there's a bunch of women inside. [00:49:40] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, no, that's terrible. Sorry. I said that in a way that made it seem like I thought it was hilarious. It's fucking terrible that they have a crate full of women. [00:49:49] Speaker A: Yeah. Someone didn't see sound of thunder or whatever. [00:49:52] Speaker B: Sound of freedom, isn't it? [00:49:54] Speaker A: Sound of freedom? Yeah. Sound of thunder is like a fucking, I don't know what that is. [00:49:58] Speaker B: The sound of thunder is thunder. Yeah, thunder rolls. I really like this, this panel of just their outlines up there. Kicking ass. [00:50:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:50:11] Speaker B: And talking about Jessica Priest's legs. Look at how long she's basically doing the splits while she kicks this dude in the head. And her legs look like they're 17ft long. It's crazy. [00:50:23] Speaker A: Yeah, she does quite a kick. [00:50:25] Speaker B: An under underrated or under publicized thing of being a covert operative and a kick ass assassin. Johnny, you gotta be hella flexible to be able to do all those. [00:50:39] Speaker A: You know? She's doing yoga. Oh, yeah, she's doing like hell yoga or hot yoga. [00:50:44] Speaker B: Hottest hell yoga. [00:50:44] Speaker A: Maybe goat yoga. [00:50:48] Speaker B: Oh, I would say Mount boz yoga. Mount Bolsa yoga. I don't know, we'll workshop that. [00:50:54] Speaker A: I don't think he does yoga with his gut. [00:50:56] Speaker B: No, but he would be, he would, he would be the one who sits on you while you do yoga. [00:51:01] Speaker A: Oh, right, yeah, you do the yoga and he sits on you. Got it. [00:51:03] Speaker B: He's just sitting there eating a little frog, Mandeh, sitting on your back, laughing while you're sweating and just being like, ah, terrible. He would be like, yeah, actually. But so they, they free the women and then punt and redeemer, make themselves known. And Mark's like, you guys, you thought, you thought I was gonna fail. [00:51:28] Speaker A: You guys were here the whole damn time. [00:51:31] Speaker B: They were like, I mean, backup. [00:51:35] Speaker A: Gotta have backup. [00:51:37] Speaker B: Literally they talk about backup all the time. Mark's so incensed that they didn't think that he could kill some people, and he spent the whole time being like, dude, this isn't my scene. Oh, poor Mark. He does. He's. He's gotta be overwhelmed. [00:51:55] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, that's pretty intense, shooting some people and doing all that, like, covert stuff. Yeah. [00:51:59] Speaker B: I couldn't imagine going from being a tech dude to basically be in solid snake. [00:52:05] Speaker A: It's tough. Have you watched furiosa yet? [00:52:08] Speaker B: Yeah, I have. [00:52:09] Speaker A: You did? [00:52:09] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:52:10] Speaker A: I love the. Her butt or the guy that she kind of idolizes, because he looks like solid snake. He just looks exactly like fucking solid snake does. He was cool. [00:52:21] Speaker B: It was a pretty good movie. [00:52:23] Speaker A: Yeah, it was good. It was wild. [00:52:25] Speaker B: I forgot how disgusting a Morton Joe was, but I. Very disgusting. [00:52:29] Speaker A: And his sons are all gross. [00:52:30] Speaker B: Oh, his sons are terrible. [00:52:32] Speaker A: And the people eater. That's the guy with the nipples. His name's the people eater. [00:52:36] Speaker B: The people eater. [00:52:37] Speaker A: Wait, and he plays with his nipples constantly. [00:52:39] Speaker B: There's a lot of. There's a lot of nipple action in that movie, though, Johnny. There is like, fucking Chris Hemsworth has his pierced nipples that get ripped out. [00:52:48] Speaker A: Ooh, yeah. [00:52:49] Speaker B: Oh, boy, oh, boy. As someone similarly afflicted in the nipular region, um, I get it caught on a, like, my backpack strap occasionally, and I'm like, ah. I couldn't imagine having it ripped out at speed. [00:53:06] Speaker A: Ouch. And we cut to now, and Mark Rosen is. [00:53:12] Speaker B: He looks like he's going to the. Down to Wall street to do some trades. [00:53:16] Speaker A: There's like, a job interview. [00:53:18] Speaker B: Yeah, you know, he's like, you know, I guess operative now. But I've always been a Haxer man, so why not smush the two together? So he hacks his way into the agency system to make himself someone who's supposed to be there. He gives himself access. He puts himself in the biometric scanner. He's just, like, slowly getting to the belly of the agency. The belly of the agency? [00:53:43] Speaker A: Yes. [00:53:44] Speaker B: Belly of the beast. That is the agency. Wow. He walks by some o killers, and he's just sweating bullets. He's like. And then it gets worse. He runs into Jason Nguyen just right. [00:53:54] Speaker A: In the room where he is. [00:53:56] Speaker B: His little. His face. His face. When he sees Jason Wynn, he's just like, ah, ah. [00:54:02] Speaker A: So much going on. [00:54:04] Speaker B: I was thinking about it, Johnny, and, you know, no matter what organization you work for, someone who has the impunity to just smoke inside. And this, the year of our lords, 2024, is someone who has way more power than you want anything to do with. Oh, shit. Jason Wynn's actually terrifying. [00:54:28] Speaker A: Yeah, he's built. [00:54:30] Speaker B: I. I feel. I feel like he was. He's never been as terrifying to me as he is now in this current iteration. [00:54:39] Speaker A: He seems more confident and more. [00:54:41] Speaker B: Yeah, he seems not only more confident, but he seems. It feels like he is doing things that actually work, not like he's always getting foiled by Al Simmons and his team. It's like he's doing shit and it's happening. And he is effective at what he does. [00:55:02] Speaker A: Yes, I would say so. [00:55:04] Speaker B: So Jason Nguyen meets Charlotte Lynn in the hallway there. And Mark's just peeking around the corner with his glowing glasses. He sees Charlotte Lynn. He's like, I immediately recognize something about her. I don't know what it was, but I recognize something about her. [00:55:20] Speaker A: We get a little shot of her reflection where it shows the viscerator who has taken over her body and then transformed into her. [00:55:27] Speaker B: Yeah. She notices him peeking around the corner and she sees him. And then she also sees him the way he saw her. [00:55:36] Speaker A: She sees his medieval reflection. [00:55:38] Speaker B: Yeah. And then, and then Mark just like, runs away. [00:55:44] Speaker A: Just like runs, you know, not suspicious at all. [00:55:47] Speaker B: I love the, the in media run that he's got right there. It's a great little action pose. [00:55:55] Speaker A: He's just like. [00:55:58] Speaker B: Hold on a second. I gotta go take care of something. Mister. Mister director. So Mark's running through the hallways, running into people carrying stacks of papers. Charlotte Lenz getting on the horn saying, we got a runner. Jason Nguyen's like, what's going on here? [00:56:15] Speaker A: The techie is here, the final member of the team. [00:56:17] Speaker B: And then we get to see, they're like, he's obviously gonna go after his teammates. And then we get to see where his teammates are. They're floating in the bacta tanks. [00:56:25] Speaker A: They're floating in the red bacta. [00:56:27] Speaker B: And the tanks are just surrounded by a gaggle of O killers. It's like the lobby of the building in gremlins two where they throw the party. [00:56:39] Speaker A: They're all just milling about. All milling about, pretty much just waiting. You get a little shot of the female haunt that we don't know much about. [00:56:47] Speaker B: Yeah. We cut back to Mark running through the hallways. [00:56:51] Speaker A: Still just like, he uses a Jessica move and snaps a neck. [00:56:55] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:56:56] Speaker A: Oh, man. Of one of the O killers. [00:56:58] Speaker B: He opens. He opens the door and he goes into it. We're like, oh, no, he's gonna get attacked. But Mark says, the scorched wasn't my first objective. His first objective was overt kill. [00:57:10] Speaker A: Overt kill Nicholas Rocca. [00:57:13] Speaker B: And overtkill goes, Mark, what you doing? [00:57:17] Speaker A: Yes, basically. [00:57:18] Speaker B: Oh, man. But, yeah, so, so overt kill is here, and he's. He's plugged in everywhere that they could put a fucking cable. They did. He's got him in his brain and his neck and his chest and his arms. Like, oh, man, he looks like Bane from the, from the Joel Schumacher Batman and Robin right now. [00:57:39] Speaker A: He does a little bit bane smash. [00:57:41] Speaker B: And Mark's. Mark's so worried because, you know, Mark's a good guy, and Mark, you know, Mark and overkill have spent a lot of time together, and so Mark very much cares for this, this big, hulking behemoth. And overkill's just like, fucking kill me. And Mark's like, ah, not today. I got a better idea for you. [00:58:03] Speaker A: I always love that trope when the experiments just like, kill me. [00:58:07] Speaker B: And so Mark sits here. He does some. He does some more of his hacks or business. [00:58:12] Speaker A: He hacks his brain. [00:58:13] Speaker B: No, no, no. He hacks. He hacks the brain. We cut to minutes later where there's a lackey busting into Charlotte Lynn's office, and he's like, assistant director. There's a problem in the room with the bacta tanks. And she's like, well, somebody get down there to kill the. To kill that scorched member. And he's like, no, no, no. That guy's not even down there. It's just a problem with the O killers. [00:58:33] Speaker A: They're gone haywire. [00:58:35] Speaker B: Marquez. Marquez. Reverse reversed their programming. Yeah, reversed their programming. And overt kill is now directly, directly, directly directing each of the Yoh killers. And he's like, you guys are gonna kill yourself. And so it's basically, it's basically overt kill, smashing his toys together. [00:58:56] Speaker A: Basically, they all start ripping into each other, and then one of them. [00:59:01] Speaker B: Yeah, they. They're punching holes through each other. They're shooting at each other, they're stabbing each other. And then the mayhem, you know, the. The tank that holds haunt and Redeemer get. [00:59:12] Speaker A: Get broken, get cracked, and then, bam, they bust out. [00:59:17] Speaker B: Bust out. Yeah, that's a. It's a great two page spread here of haunt. Just leaping. [00:59:22] Speaker A: Yeah, very heroic. [00:59:24] Speaker B: We got Redeemer in the background. Redeemer is half a second out of the tank, and he's already taking a dude down. [00:59:29] Speaker A: He's just grabbing a dude's face and throwing him into the floor. [00:59:32] Speaker B: Oh, you know, it looks like haunt took this guy's whole head off right there. [00:59:37] Speaker A: Boy, yep, with his little tendrils. Just like shot it out. They gotta get out of there, cuz there's probably more coming. [00:59:43] Speaker B: It's like, we gotta get out of here. And then they're both redeemers. Like, what about her? And haunts like, huh? Oh, holy shit. [00:59:49] Speaker A: A female version of me. What the fuck? [00:59:52] Speaker B: Yeah. And he's like, we don't have time. We don't have time, do we? Leave her. Redeemer's like, it's your call. [00:59:58] Speaker A: And the mystery of this haunt will be told another day. It pulls an old maz kanata a. [01:00:05] Speaker B: Bit of a, bit of a jerk move, leaving her behind, but they really don't have any time. So. [01:00:11] Speaker A: Yeah, then we get a nice little epilogue. [01:00:14] Speaker B: Epilogue, we got big boss at the. [01:00:16] Speaker A: Big windows smoking with, showing his power. [01:00:20] Speaker B: And he's literally just saying, Charlotte, you did a terrible fucking job. [01:00:25] Speaker A: Yeah. He's like, what the fuck did you do? [01:00:27] Speaker B: He says you failed on every level. So he's like, the only upside is Jessica Caprice was transferred off site before ta's fiasco. He's like, so prepare my jet. He wants to be at her bedside when she wakes up from this surgery that we just learned about in this final panel. What did they do to her, Johnny? Look at her. [01:00:46] Speaker A: They're cutting her up. They're doing something. [01:00:48] Speaker B: They did something. They're doing. So they're not doing minimally invasive surgery. Look at that. They got like a rotor saw everything. Yeah, they're covered in, they're covered in like those fucking hazmat suits. So they don't have to worry about washing the blood off of themselves later. [01:01:04] Speaker A: Yeah, they're doing something to Jessica. [01:01:07] Speaker B: He dismisses Charlotte Lynn. Now get out of my sight. And that ends the issue. [01:01:14] Speaker A: Ends with the scorched skull. [01:01:15] Speaker B: It does. [01:01:16] Speaker A: But there's a little bit more, we've got some spawning grounds. [01:01:19] Speaker B: Yeah. Some more fan art. [01:01:20] Speaker A: And they did a fan art from Reddit. [01:01:22] Speaker B: Yeah, this is some great fan art, Johnny. [01:01:25] Speaker A: I love the shoes. [01:01:26] Speaker B: Those shoes are awesome. This, the Kingspawn blank cover is great. It's gunslinger shooting at somebody and somebody shoots his hat and he's like, not the hat. It's great. That cosplay is dope. Look at it. It's some medieval action. That's like straight from the action figure. Medieval action. [01:01:50] Speaker A: It is. That's, that's uh, that's like, it's like. [01:01:54] Speaker B: Bjorn Baron's ark comes to life. Holy shit. [01:01:57] Speaker A: There's a fun little freak with a little spawn doll. Little spawn voodoo doll. [01:02:00] Speaker B: Yeah, the freak is a good one. I really liked it. There's a mat. There's a, like, a prop mask with glowing eyes. [01:02:07] Speaker A: It's good. It's some great fan art all the way from Reddit. [01:02:11] Speaker B: Then we got. Need some more spawns universe again, Johnny. [01:02:14] Speaker A: Yep. Check out these ongoing titles. Yeah. [01:02:17] Speaker B: Do it, do it, do it, do it. Get another image. Classics ad and then Kaiju for the toys. [01:02:24] Speaker A: Pacific Rim toy ad, which is funny. They're making Pacific Rim toys now, but I'm for it. I like Pacific Rim. [01:02:33] Speaker B: I love that it comes with a toppable building. [01:02:36] Speaker A: Yep. Just knock it on over the top of a building. [01:02:40] Speaker B: And little bitty army army vehicles. [01:02:43] Speaker A: Yeah. They would not have made that toy in 2001, let me tell you that. [01:02:50] Speaker B: Your todd McFarlane's turning into Mike Ditka. [01:02:54] Speaker A: No, I was just doing a voice. I wasn't doing. I was making a 911 joke. [01:02:58] Speaker B: Oh. [01:03:00] Speaker A: Because they probably wouldn't make a toy with a collapsible building, you know, from, like, 2001 to 2004. [01:03:05] Speaker B: Yeah, probably not. Given. Given that they tried to get the Lord of the Rings to change its nearly 60 year old title at that point. [01:03:13] Speaker A: I know they wanted to change it to treason of Isengard, which is evidently an alternate title for the two towers. [01:03:18] Speaker B: But so Yeager pilots have to be like, simpatico. Is there anybody that you could think of that you would like? If we were in the world of Pacific Rim and you were a Jaeger pilot, do you think there's anybody you could be like that in sync with to pilot the thing? [01:03:43] Speaker A: Probably. I would say probably. Bran, we've known each other for a long time and know each other pretty well, so I think that would probably work. Maybe you. [01:03:54] Speaker B: Maybe. I don't know. We'd have to see. We'd have to. We'd have to somehow transport ourselves to Pacific Rim times and see how that seems. That seems like a terrifying prospect, opening, opening yourself up that fully to another. Another being. [01:04:12] Speaker A: Yeah, it is. [01:04:13] Speaker B: Because then you don't have, you don't have that pesky skull between you keeping your thoughts to yourself. It's just. [01:04:20] Speaker A: It's a cool concept. You gotta get in the drift, they call it. [01:04:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:04:25] Speaker A: Cool. Well, that's scorch 30. [01:04:27] Speaker B: That is scorch 30. And, well, Johnny talking about walking dogs around and looking at Halloween things, we need to rate these puppies and give them a spooky scoring. [01:04:41] Speaker A: It's time to rate the puppies. So first up today, we have Kingspawn 34. We bring on Jason Shawn Alexander to art, which is amazing. Yeah. Like I said earlier, I like this issue more than the last few. I think I'm just. It's. I mean, it's the climax of the arc, so hopefully it's one of the more interesting ones. I think the Jason Shawn Alexander art helps because he's got such. It's nice to get that fresh look. Not that I say, you know, anything wrong about Javier Fernandez. It's just nice to get a fresh take on it. Yeah, it's a. It's a good action pack story. You get some fun spawn action, some good goon interaction with the goonies. I'm gonna give it three and a half. Granny Blakes medicine. And I must mention again the pundits, which are so excellent, excellently drawn. They're like works of art. [01:05:29] Speaker B: Yeah, they are. That's a. It's a pretty good score. It's a pretty good score. I'm gonna have to split this up into a. An art and an overall score, because obviously, it's impeccable artwork. It's. [01:05:41] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [01:05:42] Speaker B: Like you said, no shade to Javier Fernandez. Cause, you know, we love some Javier Fernandez here, but Javi's. Javi's work isn't as bombastic as this as well, I think, weird as that. [01:05:57] Speaker A: Is to say, with, like, the cosmic horror of the earlier issues. [01:06:01] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:06:02] Speaker A: And now we're dealing with, like, these street level things. So it's kind of better to have the more fantastical, exaggerated kind of painted art that Jason Sean Alexander has, whereas when the story was a little more fantastical, I think Javi Fernandez's art worked a little better. [01:06:16] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:06:17] Speaker A: But now the story's a little more grounded. I think it adds a nice spice to it. [01:06:20] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. I agree with that 100%. I couldn't have said it better myself, Johnny. There's. There's so much more movement in Jason Sean Alexander's art that makes it seem kind of like it's a cartoon in a good way, and it works much better for the story that's going on right now. So. Phenomenal, phenomenal art, as always. Story still, you know, we're lowering our expectations. We're getting there. [01:06:48] Speaker A: Like I just said, like, the cosmic horror. I missed the cosmic horror of the earlier king spawns. Like, yeah, this. I feel like this couldn't even. This is called, like, spawn two. Like it did King Spawn. Like, it has this grandiose name to it, and it's just like, these stories are so street level. It's just different. [01:07:05] Speaker B: There's something. They're putting something together, Johnny. We just got to write it out. [01:07:08] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:07:09] Speaker B: I love. I love that we get the resolution of. We got Granny Blake. We got her. She's good. [01:07:15] Speaker A: She's good to go. [01:07:16] Speaker B: Love. I love some granny Blake. I'm gonna give it a total score of 3.75. Cool cigarette flicks. [01:07:24] Speaker A: Yes. [01:07:25] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:07:25] Speaker A: Gotta flick that cigarette. [01:07:27] Speaker B: It feels so much better about this now than I did. I don't know. I don't know what it is. I don't know why I. I mean, I think I know why I knee jerked against it so hard when it came out initially because of what we've been talking about. But it's. It's good. It's good. It's fun. [01:07:45] Speaker A: And next up, we had scorch 30. This was a fun one. It's a fun little episode with Mark Rosen being a spy. [01:07:52] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:07:53] Speaker A: I like that a lot. Steven Segovia, always solid, is action packed, clean art. [01:08:00] Speaker B: Yeah, he does. [01:08:01] Speaker A: He does really look at the oak killers in this with their, like, metal faces. They're pretty cool. [01:08:05] Speaker B: Yeah. Steven Segovia is. Does really well for, like, covert ops or spy stuff. [01:08:12] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [01:08:12] Speaker B: Especially with that wildcat series. Had a lot of, like, special ops covert stuff, and it was beautiful. It was great. Great. He's a good spy guy. [01:08:22] Speaker A: Good spy guy. But, yeah, it's a fun little tale. A fun little tale. Let me tell you the tale of Mark Rosett. No, I remember when I read it, I was like, oh, cool. It's a mark issue. And, like, you don't get those. Since he, you know, since he didn't become medieval, you wouldn't expect him to be part of the team. Yeah, but it's fun to see him contribute. Yeah. I mean, it's just keeping that scorched. Everyone just kind of leads to the next. The action packedness, and we're moving along. And these have been really fun issues. I'm gonna give it four female haunts. [01:08:51] Speaker B: Nice. [01:08:52] Speaker A: Because we gotta find out more about her. [01:08:54] Speaker B: Yeah, we got it. We gotta. If John Lewis. [01:08:56] Speaker A: We still don't even know who Redeemer is yet. [01:08:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Answer one mystery first, please. [01:09:03] Speaker A: He's just like, my name is Jack. It's like, okay. [01:09:08] Speaker B: It's gonna be like, Murphy. He's like, my name is Murphy Murphy Jones. [01:09:16] Speaker A: And who's that? And it's like, nobody. I'm a new character. [01:09:21] Speaker B: I worked for the department of streets and sanitation for 20 years, and then, you know, got run over by a heaven. Nice. [01:09:33] Speaker A: Yeah. I like this issue a lot. Like I said, this is run on scores, has been fun. And it's some good tactical espionage action. [01:09:41] Speaker B: Excellent. Excellent. I agree wholeheartedly. This is fun. This is an obvious middle issue, but it. It's a fun little. It's a fun little fight middle issue. All of it is very great. The art. The art works perfectly for what. What's going on here? We're having fun learning about Mark. We're having fun, you know, reveling in the. The gravitas of Jason Wynn, the bad guy. Yeah, I feel bad for Charlotte for viscerator a little bit. [01:10:13] Speaker A: They got viscerated by Jason Wynn at the end. [01:10:16] Speaker B: Yeah. It's like, you know, feel really bad for overt kill because he doesn't deserve that, but, yeah, real good. I'm ex. It's still one of my favorite. Favorite comics that I'm picking up currently. Johnny yield, scorched. I'm gonna give it. I'm gonna give it four little dinghy boots that they get off of on the. On the beginning. Look at that little guy. Look at how small it is. It's a little bit rubber boat. You know, you. You know, it's got a little horn on it that just goes, like. It's a wonderful issue. I enjoyed the hell out of it. [01:10:47] Speaker A: Well, you know what else we enjoy the hell out of? [01:10:49] Speaker B: Hmm? What's that? [01:10:50] Speaker A: Our friends on Instagram. [01:10:52] Speaker B: Yeah, we do. We really do. They're really. They're really solid, Johnny. You know, it is not a wretched hive, a wretched den of hive. It's not the most eyes of the cantina. It's the. It's. It's more akin to the other cantina that what's her face runs Maz Maz's. [01:11:12] Speaker A: Canton called Maz Kanata's castle. [01:11:15] Speaker B: Okay. Maz Kanata's cat. This is. This is more Maz Kanata's castle. Castle than most Eisley Cantina. We. There's a. There's an r just collecting dust over in the corner on Instagram, just waiting to be woken up. [01:11:29] Speaker A: Well, who are we waking up this week, David? [01:11:31] Speaker B: Who are we waking up this week? Well, the Kraken. No. So, you know, we've got a lot of. In this back. In this back better here. We talked about that cosplayer. Who, right, has the. The medieval cosplay that looks so much like the action figure that. Well, you know, we got to talk about some action figure stuff, people. Johnny. So this week, our friend on Instagram is Cohero toys. Let me tell you, Johnny, you won't guess what they have. [01:12:02] Speaker A: How do you spell that David, so I can look. [01:12:06] Speaker B: It is Kohiro dot toys. [01:12:11] Speaker A: I got it. Look, he made a custom spawn of the new spawn. [01:12:14] Speaker B: Yeah. And he's got, like, the. The night vision goggles and everything's pretty badass. Yeah, he's got ninja spawn and Batman. That's not spawned. They got. He's got that. That new disruptor figure that's super awesome. [01:12:28] Speaker A: He's got medieval with, like, a badass, like, cloth, like, moldable cape. And he looks like he painted medieval as well. [01:12:35] Speaker B: Oh, he definitely got some pain on the. [01:12:37] Speaker A: On the boot and stuff. [01:12:39] Speaker B: There is definitely some shading and stuff happening there. It looks like he sculpted new boots too. [01:12:45] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:12:46] Speaker B: Damn. [01:12:47] Speaker A: Pretty cool. [01:12:48] Speaker B: That's awesome. Got Mandarin spawn there. Yeah. Cohero that, toys. [01:12:53] Speaker A: Give him a follow. [01:12:54] Speaker B: I got some awesome toys. [01:12:55] Speaker A: While you're on Instagram, make sure to give us a follow. We are regarding spawn pod. [01:12:59] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [01:13:00] Speaker A: And please make sure to rate, review, and subscribe wherever you get podcasts. [01:13:05] Speaker B: Absolutely. [01:13:07] Speaker A: And if you want to reach out to us a little more in depth, you can hit us [email protected]. [01:13:12] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [01:13:13] Speaker A: And since we've been talking tactical espionage action and stealth missions with the scorch, what are your favorite stealth video games? Do you like Metal Gear, solid? Splinter Cell? Rainbow Six? I guess Rainbow Six is more like a SWAT game, but just wondering if there's any. [01:13:32] Speaker B: It feels like there should be some stealth elements in Rainbow Six, though. Cause isn't it based on the seals? [01:13:37] Speaker A: They're stealth games? Yeah, I think so. Yeah, they stealth around. [01:13:41] Speaker B: Yeah, they're wearing those ghillie suits and just, like, looking. I wanted to be a Navy Seal when I was little until I realized you had to actually, you know, be in shape. And then I was like, ah, no. [01:13:52] Speaker A: Not gonna do that. [01:13:54] Speaker B: No way. No way, no how. And if you know me, you know, I am not a very quiet, sneaky person. I would definitely be the reason that my team got caught. [01:14:09] Speaker A: It could be all your fault. [01:14:10] Speaker B: No. Yeah. Yep, it sure would. [01:14:11] Speaker A: And I'm sorry, Mark Rosen, to come save your ass. [01:14:16] Speaker B: I could only hope to get saved by Joe. Mark Rosen. Lonnie Bones is our music, Johnny. That's good stuff. You should go to the google. Type in Lonnie bones music. That's Lonnie with a y, not spelled the canadian way. No I e here. [01:14:28] Speaker A: No I e like granny. [01:14:30] Speaker B: Nope, nope, nope. It's excellent music. He does excellent work. Thank you very much, Lonnie. We should probably do this again, shouldn't we, Johnny? [01:14:38] Speaker A: Yeah, let's do it again. I'm feeling. I feel like I want to do some spinoffs. [01:14:42] Speaker B: You want to do some spinoffs? Well, Johnny, you're in luck, because a lot of these contemporary books that we have to get to are spinoffs. So let's do all spin offs next week. How about that? [01:14:54] Speaker A: Sounds like a plan. What are we doing, David? [01:14:55] Speaker B: What are we doing? Well, we're doing our current delicious, delicious pairing here that we've got. We got Samwitch number three, red city number four. [01:15:05] Speaker A: It's gonna be a good one. [01:15:07] Speaker B: It's gonna be. [01:15:07] Speaker A: I'm excited for both of those. That Sam and Twitch has gotten real good. I like it a lot. [01:15:10] Speaker B: Oh, man. Well, we knew it was gonna. There was no doubt in my mind that we were gonna fucking love Sam and Twitch. [01:15:17] Speaker A: Yeah, I know. It's just. I'm proud. I'm proud of the Todd father, you know? [01:15:21] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, it's. It's good. It's. It's like. Like I've said before, the same. And Twitch, the current Sam and twitch case files series, is, like, what the Todd father should be writing all the time. [01:15:33] Speaker A: He is really good at. [01:15:34] Speaker B: Very good at these nasty, gnarly, you know, HBO style crime drama shit. It's so good. And I. No, not to just gloss over it, but there's only so many good things we can say about Rat City before it starts sounding like we're repeating ourselves. Yeah, just fucking. Just go read it. Issue five came out this week, and boy, howdy. Was it five or six? [01:16:02] Speaker A: It was five. [01:16:03] Speaker B: It's good. So good. It's very good. [01:16:06] Speaker A: Sweet. [01:16:06] Speaker B: If you aren't reading Rat City, go read all of Rat City. And be sure to read Rat City number four for next week to hear us talk about it. [01:16:13] Speaker A: Hell, yeah. [01:16:14] Speaker B: Hell, yeah. With that, Johnny, it's been a great time talking to you about Spawn today. I just keep looking at this cover on King Spawn because it's so fucking good. [01:16:24] Speaker A: Love that crown. [01:16:26] Speaker B: Yeah. It has taken away my ability to say anything except for May the scorch to be with you. [01:16:32] Speaker A: And also with you, David. [01:16:33] Speaker B: Hell, yeah. [01:16:35] Speaker A: Hell, yeah. All right, David, since we've been doing all this espionage action, I'm gonna go ahead and sneak out of the closet. [01:16:41] Speaker B: Okay. [01:16:42] Speaker A: I'm gonna be like a leaf on the wind, like Jessica top mark. [01:16:45] Speaker B: Okay. [01:16:49] Speaker A: Oh, shit. My mic cable. Oh, fucked.
