[00:00:01] Speaker A: Good evening and welcome to the Malibu. This is a very special episode of Regarding Spawn. I know we said last week we were going to be doing a couple issues of Spawn as normal, but circumstances worked out where someone very special and near and dear to us reached out and wanted to chat about the upcoming Spawn Con, which is this upcoming week as of this record. We're so excited. I'm going to be going dave's gonna have to sit it out, but I will be there on the front lines. [00:00:34] Speaker B: And we'll be reporting back how it. [00:00:37] Speaker A: Was for those of you that can't make it. But we hope to see a lot of you there. [00:00:41] Speaker B: But anyway, someone near and dear to. [00:00:45] Speaker A: The Spawn community reached out and wanted to talk Spawn Con with us. [00:00:49] Speaker B: And we, of course, were like, absolutely. [00:00:52] Speaker A: Because it was the Spawn Hunter. [00:00:55] Speaker B: That's right, guys. [00:00:56] Speaker A: This is a conversation with the Spawn Hunter, with me and David. It was a lot of fun talking to him. He's just the nicest dude and so excited about Spawn Con, as you'll hear. Since we're still learning about how know podcast and be podcasting people, we forgot to kind of do an intro during the interview. [00:01:18] Speaker B: So this is the intro, and without further ado, I bring you the conversation with the Spawn Hunter. [00:01:26] Speaker A: Hit the theme song, baby. So, yeah, when did when did you have the idea, the genesis for Spawncon? [00:02:06] Speaker C: Well, the idea came from a budy of mine that you meet at the convention. His name is Dino Morgan, and I was traveling for work and I was in Houston. [00:02:15] Speaker B: So a budy of mine sent me a message and said, hey, this guy. [00:02:19] Speaker C: Dino lives in Houston and he would love to meet with you and talk to you. [00:02:23] Speaker B: I said, Right on, let's do it. So we met for had it was. [00:02:27] Speaker C: My final night in Houston. [00:02:29] Speaker B: So we met for dinner, we sat down, we ordered wings, and he says, how about Spawn convention? And right away it was like, what? Let's talk about it. [00:02:42] Speaker C: And kind of like those ideas that grow up at a napkin at a restaurant. We started mapping out all these things about the convention and where we're going to have it and how is it going to be. [00:02:53] Speaker B: And it was just about getting fans. [00:02:56] Speaker C: Together and just kind of talking and enjoying the character. It was never about the guests. It was never about merchandise or anything like that. It was just, let's bring people that love Spawn, let's get them in a room. [00:03:08] Speaker B: And then if there's people that have. [00:03:09] Speaker C: Stuff for sale, great. It'll be like a little Spawn flea market. [00:03:13] Speaker B: If we got artists that want to. [00:03:14] Speaker C: Do some stuff that's Spawn inspired, let's bring them in. And then the idea kind of started growing like a snowball. And then we got other people involved and other people involved, and then they. [00:03:25] Speaker B: Said, hey, I know angel Medina. Can we bring him on the. [00:03:32] Speaker C: And then and then somebody said, hey, we know Jonathan Galapian. [00:03:36] Speaker B: I can get him in. And then it started coming together like. [00:03:40] Speaker C: Voltron, and each piece was a fundamental piece. And then we had an incredibly smart guy named Chet. [00:03:49] Speaker B: You'll meet him at the show, and. [00:03:50] Speaker C: He'S a project manager, and he started. [00:03:53] Speaker B: Putting it together logistically and just driving the effort in different tasks for different people. [00:04:00] Speaker C: We got a guy working on the guests. We got a guy working on the license. We got a guy working on merchandise. [00:04:06] Speaker B: And like I said, like Voltron and. [00:04:08] Speaker C: Everybody had their strengths bringing into the. [00:04:10] Speaker B: Show, and now we got the actual show happening next weekend. Yeah. [00:04:15] Speaker D: That's amazing. That's so much work. [00:04:19] Speaker B: Oh, boy. It's a lot of work, and it's. [00:04:22] Speaker C: A lot of dealing with other personalities, other people. That's always kind of like the challenge. [00:04:27] Speaker B: When you have other people, everybody's different. [00:04:32] Speaker C: Some people move fast, some people move slow. Some people get stuff done and procrastinators. But we made it work, and I'm so happy that as a team, we are delivering the final product. I was looking at the batches that we order for the VIP, the guests. [00:04:49] Speaker B: Exhibitors, and the quality. [00:04:50] Speaker C: It's so amazing. Nice just to look at something and say, like, wow, I can't believe this is actually a batch happening. [00:04:58] Speaker A: Yeah, I bet that's surreal. That's cool. [00:05:01] Speaker C: It truly is. [00:05:02] Speaker B: I think that's insane because collectors or. [00:05:07] Speaker C: Spawn fans have been around since 1992. I mean, that's when the issue came out. [00:05:11] Speaker B: So the fact that just a few friends got together and say, hey, let's put a convention together, right? And it's never been done before. [00:05:19] Speaker C: It's never, ever been done before. [00:05:21] Speaker B: And even Tod acknowledges he's he's quote. [00:05:26] Speaker C: Code, kind of saying, like, go, guys, go have fun and enjoy the show. [00:05:31] Speaker B: And that to us, is great. [00:05:33] Speaker A: Yeah, you got to get the blessing. [00:05:38] Speaker D: His whole aura seems to just be like, yeah, just do it, just do it. [00:05:43] Speaker B: He lives up to his reputation, and to add to the top part of. [00:05:49] Speaker C: It is that we had all these. [00:05:50] Speaker B: T shirts that we had that the. [00:05:53] Speaker C: Artists, like Dino and Jeff Monk, they had designed T shirts for the show, right? And so we were going to have these T shirts sold at the show that we call them Spawncon exclusives. And one of the bits that Tod. [00:06:06] Speaker B: And Tod McFarland Productions came in, and they said, you know what? [00:06:10] Speaker C: Send us those things. [00:06:11] Speaker B: We want to take a look. We'll approve them, maybe we'll make some revisions, and then that way it becomes official licensed TMP Productions merchandise. [00:06:23] Speaker C: So for the artists, for the guys who created the T shirts, they were. [00:06:26] Speaker B: Like so we have two T shirts. [00:06:31] Speaker C: That were designed by Spawn fans and. [00:06:34] Speaker B: Are now licensed TNP Productions. [00:06:37] Speaker C: So as an artist, I didn't design anything. I can't draw anything for my either but to have your design be an official McFarland t shirt, I mean, that was so incredibly joyful for that artist. [00:06:51] Speaker B: I can't to and tod when he. [00:06:54] Speaker C: Saw the we had a lot of zoom calls with them, and they saw. [00:06:57] Speaker B: This shirt, and he's like, I like that shirt. I like that. That sounds like him. That was awesome. He was like, great. And that's the glowing ice t shirt. [00:07:10] Speaker A: That was cool. [00:07:13] Speaker B: So if you have two people wearing them, the eyes are looking at each other. [00:07:17] Speaker D: Nice. Yeah. [00:07:18] Speaker C: So I think everybody's getting a pair of those. [00:07:21] Speaker B: I know I did. [00:07:22] Speaker A: I definitely will. Yeah. That's what I was excited for, because I went to Chicago, comic con, c two, e two. This year. I found one, literally one spawn shirt, and I couldn't find any, and I was blown away. I was like, why can't they need more spawn shirts out there? [00:07:38] Speaker C: That what you just said is exactly how we started piecing it in a napkin. Because you can go to a hot topic, or you can go to a store and buy a spawned shirt. You can find Batman, spider man, x. [00:07:50] Speaker B: Men, but there's never a spawn shirt. [00:07:53] Speaker C: You always have to buy a knockoff of china or something like that, right. [00:07:57] Speaker B: And we felt like, I want to. [00:08:00] Speaker C: Buy a hat that has spawn logo. [00:08:03] Speaker D: I've been trying to find hats, and the only hats that they have available are, like, the $500 ones from the crew from the movie, and it's like. [00:08:11] Speaker C: That'S the other thing. [00:08:13] Speaker B: There's t shirts on ebay that are previously used, right? [00:08:17] Speaker C: They got stains and everything, and they're like, $200. [00:08:21] Speaker B: And I'm like, paying $200 for your used t shirt? [00:08:25] Speaker D: For your sweatstands. [00:08:27] Speaker B: Yes. So now people get to have fresh shirts, official licensed t shirts, hats, coins, pins. [00:08:37] Speaker C: I love pins. I'm a pin collector. [00:08:39] Speaker B: And all of it licensed by todd. [00:08:41] Speaker C: McFarlane, and we end that all of that on the 29th. So that's why I tell people, why are you paying, like, $400 for a t shirt that's used, and when you. [00:08:51] Speaker B: Can for $29, and it's a fresh t shirt? [00:08:56] Speaker C: So that came to fruition, and we're totally stoked about it because I myself been looking for t shirts or anything. [00:09:04] Speaker B: Spawn on it. Yeah. Oh, man. [00:09:08] Speaker D: If the hunter can't find it, it probably doesn't exist. [00:09:10] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what I would say. [00:09:12] Speaker C: The hunter will find it, but I don't know if your hunter will wear. [00:09:15] Speaker B: Your stained. [00:09:19] Speaker D: I don't even like wearing my own stained t shirts, so I can't imagine, like, somebody else's funk is all in this. [00:09:25] Speaker C: I know, but it's collectors, right? [00:09:28] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:09:29] Speaker A: So have you been into spawn since 92? Is that when you started collecting? [00:09:35] Speaker C: Yes, I started collecting in 92. Spawn officially. It wasn't until late 1991, I didn't even know about comics. [00:09:44] Speaker B: I didn't even know about comic book. [00:09:46] Speaker C: Stores, and I happened to live in new Jersey, and I walked home and back from school in high school. [00:09:53] Speaker B: And as you're walking back and forth. [00:09:56] Speaker C: You get to meet people along the way that are also walking home from school. And then I met this guy, and. [00:10:01] Speaker B: He said, hey, I got to go. [00:10:03] Speaker C: To the comic book store if you want to come, and I'm just going. [00:10:06] Speaker B: To pick up my books. And I said, comic book store? [00:10:08] Speaker C: What is that? So he took me in, and he introduced me to the world of comics. And it was right about the time. [00:10:15] Speaker B: That image comics was about to break through, right? [00:10:20] Speaker C: So I was like, just looking, just watching, and I saw that he was picking up some books. [00:10:24] Speaker B: Then 92 comes around, and he tells. [00:10:28] Speaker C: Me, image comics is going to be like, it you got to buy all the image comics. And I'm like thinking, like, what's image comics? So Yomblut comes out, and I pick up yumblad, obviously. [00:10:38] Speaker B: And I was struck by the art, right? [00:10:40] Speaker C: It was different. It was just everything about the idea. [00:10:44] Speaker B: It changed my mind. [00:10:45] Speaker C: So I started getting into it, and. [00:10:46] Speaker B: Then spawn comes out, and I see it on the shelves, and my Budy's. [00:10:51] Speaker C: Like, you got to get this book. [00:10:53] Speaker B: You got to get two of these. [00:10:54] Speaker C: I'm like, I'm in high school. I can barely afford, right, those apple pie cakes. [00:11:01] Speaker B: So I picked up a copy, and. [00:11:04] Speaker C: I'm on the comic book store, and I'm browsing through it, and I'm like. [00:11:07] Speaker B: Whoa, the art is amazing. [00:11:10] Speaker C: I wasn't even reading the words yet. I was just reading art. And then there's a double spread where. [00:11:14] Speaker B: He'S standing on the rooftop. I was hooked. [00:11:19] Speaker C: So I buy a copy, and I take it home. And I think I analyzed each panel. [00:11:24] Speaker B: Of issue one, like everything. [00:11:26] Speaker C: And if you remember on issue one. [00:11:28] Speaker B: There'S that one panel that has got. [00:11:30] Speaker C: The glowing green eyes. It's just a dark black panel, and it's just the green eyes. [00:11:34] Speaker B: It's probably like the first when he opens his eyes. [00:11:39] Speaker C: And that was the inspiration that we had for spawncon, because we were like, how are we going to pitch spawn. [00:11:46] Speaker B: Con without getting sued by McFarland? [00:11:49] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:11:50] Speaker B: And I said, let's go with the green eyes. [00:11:53] Speaker C: Let's go with those triangley looking green eyes that you see on that panel. [00:11:59] Speaker B: And that kind of built on pawn. [00:12:01] Speaker C: And now we have a t shirt with it. [00:12:03] Speaker B: But yeah. [00:12:04] Speaker C: So that was how I got introduced. [00:12:05] Speaker B: To spawn on 1992, and I had. [00:12:09] Speaker C: To wait a whole month for issue two. [00:12:12] Speaker D: Oh, boy. [00:12:13] Speaker B: More. [00:12:16] Speaker D: Those first few issues had a couple of production delays. I can't imagine falling in love with something so hard so quickly and then being, ah, I have to wait how long? [00:12:26] Speaker B: I know, look at it. [00:12:27] Speaker C: How we had to wait a month. [00:12:28] Speaker B: Plus, and then you go netflix, and. [00:12:30] Speaker C: You can just watch every episode back to back. [00:12:33] Speaker A: We're spoiled, too, because we got so many spawn titles. Now we miss one week when they don't have one. And I'm like, where's my spawn? [00:12:42] Speaker C: And we're going to have 14 books soon. [00:12:44] Speaker B: I can't believe it. [00:12:45] Speaker D: So many books. [00:12:47] Speaker C: You're going to need, like, a lot of episodes. [00:12:49] Speaker A: No, I know. We're going to need to call in backup. My comic shop emailed me, have you seen this? [00:12:55] Speaker B: And I was like, we're going to. [00:12:56] Speaker A: Need a bigger boat. [00:12:57] Speaker B: Yeah. Hey, I'll help you if you guys ever need that title. [00:13:02] Speaker C: Can you pick up this title? I'm like, all right. [00:13:05] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:13:07] Speaker D: There was actually a time not too long ago when you were in Chicago and we both were texting each other. We were like, what did he find? What did he find? [00:13:15] Speaker B: We don't know where he went. [00:13:17] Speaker C: I find the stores. [00:13:20] Speaker B: So I love to travel. [00:13:22] Speaker C: Yes, that makes work bearable. [00:13:25] Speaker B: But I do enjoy hitting those little stores that nobody thinks about. [00:13:31] Speaker C: And I'm in middle of nowhere America. [00:13:33] Speaker B: And I find a comic book store, and I happen to have, like I. [00:13:37] Speaker C: Found the cassette tape, the music soundtrack on a cassette tape. [00:13:43] Speaker B: Oh, man. Right? [00:13:44] Speaker A: Oh, nice. [00:13:45] Speaker B: It was like, what is that underneath all that stuff? Oh, I don't know. Oh, it's a spawn movie tape. Cassette tape. I'm like, I'll take it. [00:13:54] Speaker C: How much you want? Give me five. You go. It's like those little things that you find, those stores. And I love that. I love that. [00:14:02] Speaker B: I'm going to Virginia tomorrow morning, and. [00:14:06] Speaker C: I'm going to be hitting some stores. [00:14:08] Speaker B: And just find whatever I can spawn related, and I'll buy it. [00:14:12] Speaker A: Yeah, it's fun because there's been so much stuff over the years, if you look for it, you can find it a lot of places, like, just little. [00:14:18] Speaker B: Spawn stuff almost everywhere. [00:14:23] Speaker A: Ever since we really got into it a few years ago, it's just really been amazing to just open your eyes and see how much spawn stuff is out there. [00:14:30] Speaker D: Yeah, there are a couple of places that I hit, literally, and it's just like, occasionally they'll get just, like, some old spawn figure in, and it's like. [00:14:40] Speaker B: Well, if I see it, I got to buy it. [00:14:43] Speaker D: It's fun how you've just kind of come across it in the wild. It's almost easier to do that than to try to get one of the new figures. [00:14:51] Speaker B: Sometimes it is, and sometimes the craziest. [00:14:55] Speaker C: Thing is that you'll find a figure. [00:14:57] Speaker B: That people sell for, like, 50, maybe. [00:15:01] Speaker C: $60, and then you go to another store and they have that same figure for 999. The prices are all over the place. [00:15:10] Speaker B: You can buy it. [00:15:11] Speaker C: You can certainly buy it if you want to spend the money. But I think that's what I liked about the moniker with the spawn hunter is that I'm not just hunting for. [00:15:18] Speaker B: Spawn items, but I'm also hunting for the great deal. Right. [00:15:25] Speaker C: And that's what makes it enjoyable, because I can go to Ebay and hit buy. [00:15:30] Speaker B: There's no fun on that because why. [00:15:32] Speaker C: Am I paying for something that I get to enjoy looking for it, finding it for 999 or for 99? And that makes it fun for me. [00:15:40] Speaker B: Because in that connection, in that driving. [00:15:44] Speaker C: In that finding, I also get to meet comic book store owners and connect with them, give them my spawn hunter. [00:15:49] Speaker B: Sticker, and it's a new relationship. Yeah. That's awesome. [00:15:55] Speaker D: We've found that the community that's built around spawn is just amazing. We've talked about it before that it seems like spawn is kind of a. [00:16:07] Speaker B: Character that would have a whole bunch of it seems like it would have. [00:16:12] Speaker D: A toxic fan base, almost just kind. [00:16:15] Speaker B: Of from what we know about major media. [00:16:19] Speaker D: But everybody that we've met in the spawn community has just been, like, the most genuine and lovely person. It's incredible. It's so much fun to get to meet people and be like, hey, yeah, we love this hell guy, but we're still good people. [00:16:31] Speaker B: Yeah, it's great. Absolutely. I'm glad to hear that, because I. [00:16:38] Speaker C: Had my share of the good and the bad, but I would say 95% of it. It's always been good. And it's been so good that if you put aside the collecting, if you put aside the character, the friendships that. [00:16:50] Speaker B: I've made along the way are priceless. And not just in the US. [00:16:56] Speaker C: But outside the US. [00:16:58] Speaker B: And just connecting with other people that are truly, genuinely good people, good friends. [00:17:04] Speaker C: That I'm proud to call my friends. And I know that I can pick up the phone and if I need anything or if I'm going to go to france, they'll be there for me. [00:17:14] Speaker B: And that, to me, is priceless. [00:17:17] Speaker C: Forget about the stuff. [00:17:19] Speaker B: This stuff is just stuff. As years go by and I have these solid friends that we can put a convention together, I think that's where. [00:17:33] Speaker C: You want to drive that passion. It's not just on the collecting side, but also on how you build relationships with other people that you meet. Hearing you say that the community has been nothing but supportive and good, it just really warms my heart, too. [00:17:47] Speaker A: Yeah, because we started this because I got into king spawn, and I was like I basically was looking for a show and there wasn't one. And we were like, I was talking to david, and we thought we would start was just we didn't know what it would be like trying to come into this already established community. But everyone's been really welcoming, and it's just been a lot of fun to learn. There's so much to learn about spawn. I learned something new every day or something I didn't know existed. [00:18:17] Speaker B: It's been really cool. [00:18:20] Speaker D: It's been going long enough now that getting into the spawn universe is almost like trying to get into star wars for the first time. It's just like every person has a book written about them, and so it's just so much fun to just explore and learn about everything that's in there. [00:18:38] Speaker C: And I love that you guys exist. [00:18:40] Speaker B: For that reason, because we need that. [00:18:43] Speaker C: Every fandom needs that. [00:18:45] Speaker B: And I think you guys are that. [00:18:47] Speaker C: Because we need those guys that archive. [00:18:49] Speaker B: The stories that are like that know the canon, right? [00:18:53] Speaker C: The canon that exists behind it. [00:18:55] Speaker B: Right? [00:18:56] Speaker C: Because there's going to be always a new fan today. [00:18:59] Speaker B: There's going to be someone that's going to come across the COVID of something spawn and it's going to pick it up and they're not going to know what the story is behind it. So it's great to have that because. [00:19:11] Speaker C: I think as the years go by and the way you guys are seeing this changes. We went from one spawn title to now we're having about 14 titles. [00:19:21] Speaker B: I can't believe it, right? So there is this timeline where it's. [00:19:26] Speaker C: Going to be at a point where. [00:19:28] Speaker B: We need somebody to kind of set us straight. [00:19:31] Speaker C: Even myself, I'm like, what's going on here? Who is this guy? [00:19:34] Speaker A: Is he dead? When did he show up? [00:19:38] Speaker C: I'm great that you guys are there for that reason. Thank you for the new fan and for old fans like myself that are going to be at some point stuck in a rut. And I'm like, wait, who is this guy? Guys, hey, what's going on? [00:19:52] Speaker A: Hey, we're not the best experts. We thought the curse was a new character for a long time. And then we saw the old action figure. We were like, whoops oopsies, he showed up in the scorch and we were like, who's this guy? [00:20:07] Speaker D: Your collection is also really interesting to me because you think you know everything that has been produced spawn wise. Like, you're like, I was a kid going to the toy store all through the knew what all the toys were, but every week you bust out a toy that I never could have imagined actually existed. And then it's just so cool to find these things that have been produced and there's like 14 different versions of them and it's like, oh, cow. [00:20:37] Speaker C: Oh, my goodness. [00:20:38] Speaker D: It's amazing. [00:20:41] Speaker C: I'm glad you point that out because I do, like, kind of featuring something. [00:20:45] Speaker B: That may be obscure, maybe, or not. [00:20:49] Speaker C: Even that popular at the time. And then you see it and you're like, oh, that looks cool, or, where did you get that? And I love that because I give the spotlight to that character or to that toy or that product that was released. It kind of went under the radar. Nobody heard about it. [00:21:06] Speaker B: And then you get to see it. [00:21:08] Speaker C: And you can buy it. [00:21:09] Speaker B: So the stuff that I put out there also it's obtainable. [00:21:13] Speaker C: So it's not just something that only the spawn hunter has. No, not at all. [00:21:17] Speaker B: I think it's something that if you. [00:21:19] Speaker C: Like it, then you go on anywhere on the Internet and you can find it. And now you can buy it because. [00:21:24] Speaker B: I was able to show you something that you might not seen before. [00:21:28] Speaker C: And the collection is about that. The collection doesn't have a direct path or anything, like, pattern wise. It's not like I'm buying all the variants or all the figures. [00:21:40] Speaker B: It's stuff that I think looks cool. [00:21:42] Speaker C: Stuff that I think like, oh, wait, if I grab this figure and that figure, oh, that makes sense. And then you put them together in a picture, and it just kind of works out. So that's my angle, I think. It's just like, I find stuff that. [00:21:55] Speaker B: Looks cool and put it together in. [00:21:57] Speaker C: A picture, and then it's you, the. [00:21:59] Speaker B: Audience, that get to judge. Oh, man, that's. [00:22:05] Speaker D: I'm a big fan of small right foot spawn, so I like it when his feet look the same. And there was only a small period of time where they produced action figures that had both of the feet the same size. And so I love it every time you pop up with a new one that I haven't seen before, and it's. [00:22:20] Speaker B: Like, I got to find that one now. They're real cool. [00:22:24] Speaker D: They're real cool. [00:22:25] Speaker C: Well, series one spawn the original spawn. [00:22:28] Speaker B: Right. Series one, the 1994 spawn figure. There's your small feet. Yeah, there are 23 versions of him. 23? [00:22:40] Speaker D: Holy cow. [00:22:41] Speaker B: Wow. Yes. [00:22:42] Speaker C: So if you are a collector that wants to get every single version of. [00:22:47] Speaker B: This figure, 23 different ones of this guy, different colors, different mask, and different. [00:22:54] Speaker C: Manufacturers, and that's not counting the knockoff. So you can add the knockoff on that, too. [00:23:00] Speaker B: But yes. [00:23:02] Speaker C: And 1994, when I was collecting, I only thought there was just one figure. [00:23:07] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:23:07] Speaker C: How am I supposed to know there were 23 different ones? Yeah. Now, thanks to the Internet, and we can connect with other countries, they're like, oh, we have the Japanese version. [00:23:18] Speaker B: And I'm like, Wait, what? We have the Brazilian version. Oh, my goodness. Right? And then there's the trilingual version. [00:23:28] Speaker C: The hunting never ends. There's always something that I come across or someone tells me about that I've never seen before. So it's never ending. It's never going to end. [00:23:39] Speaker D: Speaking of the knockoff figures, do you have any particular knockoffs that you enjoy. [00:23:44] Speaker B: Even though they're not true spawns that just make you laugh or that look particularly cool, I think, with the knockoffs. [00:23:55] Speaker C: And you probably seen this guy's collection, Petrospawn. [00:23:58] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, petrospawn. [00:24:00] Speaker C: He's a really good friend of mine I met in person in France. [00:24:03] Speaker B: Oh, cool. [00:24:04] Speaker C: We help each other with our collections. Petrospawn is a big time knockoff collector, and he has a really impressive collection. We can talk about that for a second. [00:24:19] Speaker B: It's that I could be hunting knockoffs, which are great to hunt, and I've. [00:24:24] Speaker C: Come across of them, and I could say, oh, now I have the knockoff collection, too. But I feel like when I find. [00:24:29] Speaker B: Something that it's really into my other friend's collection. [00:24:34] Speaker C: So I send a message to Petrospon. [00:24:35] Speaker B: I said, hey, do you have this knockoff? [00:24:37] Speaker C: And he goes, no, I've never seen. [00:24:40] Speaker B: That one before, dude, it's yours. I'll send it to you. [00:24:44] Speaker C: And he goes like, but you don't want it for your collection? [00:24:46] Speaker B: No, I think it means more for. [00:24:48] Speaker C: You because you're collecting this stuff, and. [00:24:50] Speaker B: It looks great, so let me help you with that. So that's what makes a difference in the collectors, is that sometimes you don't. [00:25:01] Speaker C: Want to get everything when you can share some of that with other people. [00:25:06] Speaker B: And brings me joy that I impressed. [00:25:09] Speaker C: Him by finding something that he never had. [00:25:11] Speaker D: Yeah, that's always fun. [00:25:13] Speaker B: Question about the knockoff. [00:25:15] Speaker C: I have one. It's the Spawn series. [00:25:18] Speaker B: One spawn figure. All right. It's a knockoff, and one of the. [00:25:25] Speaker C: Most noticeable differences is that the legs are super long and the waist. [00:25:31] Speaker A: Yeah, it's like a high waist. [00:25:32] Speaker B: Yeah, it's like waist, long legs. So this is a knockoff, and why. [00:25:38] Speaker C: I like it is because I won. [00:25:40] Speaker B: It in a contest from Wizard Comics, and it was like a trivia contest. [00:25:45] Speaker C: And I won it, and they sent it to me, and I thought it. [00:25:48] Speaker B: Was really special because it's my knockoff. [00:25:52] Speaker C: Spawn figure that I want on a trivia contest. [00:25:56] Speaker B: That's awesome. I cherish this, right? Awesome. [00:25:58] Speaker C: To answer your question, there's my favorite knockoff. [00:26:01] Speaker B: Nice. [00:26:02] Speaker D: Yes. [00:26:03] Speaker B: It's got a great story to it, too. [00:26:04] Speaker A: I used to love Wizard Magazine back in the day. I remember reading wizard and toy fair. [00:26:08] Speaker B: All the were they were kind of. [00:26:12] Speaker A: Like how I got because I was into Spawn as a kid, but I was a little too young. My brother had it, and I always. [00:26:18] Speaker B: Was interested in it. [00:26:19] Speaker A: But wizard and Toy Fair definitely played a big part in that because they. [00:26:22] Speaker B: Always were reporting the Spawn news. [00:26:26] Speaker C: It was our only source of information. It was our only source of the ads. [00:26:31] Speaker B: Right. When Tod would put an ad of. [00:26:33] Speaker C: What was coming out for the next. [00:26:35] Speaker B: Series, that was our way of him. [00:26:38] Speaker C: Doing it on Instagram these days. [00:26:39] Speaker B: Sneak peek. Right. [00:26:40] Speaker C: And he would put an ad series. [00:26:42] Speaker B: Five Spawn figures coming out this fall. [00:26:45] Speaker C: I'm looking at every picture, and I'm like, oh, my gosh, I got to. [00:26:49] Speaker B: Get all these figures right. Yeah. [00:26:50] Speaker C: So Wizard Magazine toy for magazine was. [00:26:53] Speaker B: Our Google at the time. [00:26:55] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. And I would read those things, so they were, like, falling apart because that's all you had. [00:27:00] Speaker B: Yeah, my bathroom would be stuck up. [00:27:02] Speaker A: With all the kind of miss it sometimes. That's funny. When did you take up the moniker Spawn Hunter? Was that what year did you start come up with the name and everything? [00:27:15] Speaker C: Oh, man, it's such a good question. [00:27:19] Speaker B: It was about two, three years ago, I want to say. Okay. And let's say three years. And then I didn't even have the Instagram. [00:27:29] Speaker C: I didn't have any of that stuff. I had the collection, but I didn't. [00:27:33] Speaker B: Have a way of sharing it with everybody. There was no way for me to. [00:27:38] Speaker C: Connect with other people. It was just me in my little. [00:27:40] Speaker B: Niche world, and I kept collecting, and you're going to laugh at me, but my wife, she said, Watch a TV show with me. [00:27:51] Speaker C: And I'm like, okay. What? [00:27:52] Speaker B: It's Emily in Paris. Okay. I'll watch. [00:27:57] Speaker C: And on the episode, on the first. [00:27:59] Speaker B: Episode, she starts taking pictures of her. [00:28:01] Speaker C: Adventures in Paris and post them on Instagram. As she was posting these pictures, people were connecting with her because they're like, oh, I love that. [00:28:10] Speaker B: And then my mind just kind of like that light bulb. Just literally saw that moment, and then, whoa. I can create an Instagram account and. [00:28:22] Speaker C: Just make it about the Spawn collection. [00:28:24] Speaker B: And I can connect with other people. And the name Spawn Hunter just kind. [00:28:28] Speaker C: Of, like, came without even thinking, because. [00:28:31] Speaker B: I'm always hunting for that good deal, right? [00:28:33] Speaker C: But I wasn't the good deal hunter for Spawn. You understand Spawn Hunter. [00:28:43] Speaker B: And then there's the actual Spawn Hunters, like Angela that are hunting Spawns. [00:28:49] Speaker C: So it just kind of came together. It sounded great. [00:28:52] Speaker B: The Instagram account was born, and I. [00:28:54] Speaker C: Started posting my collection pictures, and the rest is history. [00:28:58] Speaker B: Oh, man. Has been possible with that. [00:29:01] Speaker C: Connecting with everybody, all my friends. [00:29:05] Speaker B: It was because of that. [00:29:06] Speaker C: Inspired by Emily Paris. [00:29:09] Speaker D: Hell, yeah. [00:29:09] Speaker A: That's great. [00:29:10] Speaker D: We love random connections to things. [00:29:13] Speaker C: That's your random connection. [00:29:14] Speaker B: Right. [00:29:16] Speaker D: Big the big question is, you say you have a Wanda of your own. What does Wanda think of Spawn? Does she think Spawn is stupid? My Wanda definitely thinks spawn. [00:29:26] Speaker A: Yeah. We call our wives Wandas just to keep their privacy. [00:29:29] Speaker C: Yeah, no, great question, because I think a lot of collectors have that Wanda, right? [00:29:36] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:29:39] Speaker B: I think for her, it really didn't hit a nerve until because I'm here. [00:29:46] Speaker C: In this Spawn room. This is my therapy room, and I'm. [00:29:50] Speaker B: Pretty blocked off reality, right? [00:29:52] Speaker C: Because I'll come here and take pictures. I just got new stuff in the mail. [00:29:56] Speaker B: For example, I got the new signed Batman Spawn. [00:30:00] Speaker A: Oh, cool. [00:30:01] Speaker B: Yeah, I saw that. So this will be archived and also. [00:30:06] Speaker C: Placed somewhere in the collection it's designed. McFarland. [00:30:09] Speaker A: That's cool. [00:30:10] Speaker B: That's a great sword, too. [00:30:12] Speaker C: I come here, and this is where I unpack my boxes, and I organize everything, because you got to keep it organized. [00:30:17] Speaker B: One of my peeps is I got. [00:30:20] Speaker C: To keep it organized. [00:30:21] Speaker B: So back to the Wanda. It didn't hit a nerve until we went to Paris, and we're flying there. [00:30:28] Speaker C: And my buddy from Paris, a collector, Raymond Flores, he says, I will pick. [00:30:33] Speaker B: You up from Paris Airport. [00:30:35] Speaker C: I'm like, you sure? [00:30:36] Speaker B: Because I'm bringing my family. Don't worry. I'm like, okay. So we get to Paris, and my kids and my wife is like, do. [00:30:44] Speaker C: We have a taxi? [00:30:45] Speaker B: Do we need. To get a taxi. Well, I think we're taken care of. What do you mean? [00:30:51] Speaker C: We walk outside, and there's Raymond with a sign that says, spawn hunter and family, and the kids stop. I look at the sign. My wife's, like looking at the sign. She's like, what the hell? Raymond pulls in with a Mercedes Benz. [00:31:09] Speaker B: VIP van the airport and please come in. [00:31:14] Speaker C: And my kids and my wife at. [00:31:15] Speaker B: That point were like, all right. [00:31:20] Speaker C: You'Re legit. And that's the story. [00:31:23] Speaker B: So ever since, I think she knows that it goes beyond the collection. [00:31:28] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:31:29] Speaker B: She lets me be here and decompress, be here and do this. [00:31:34] Speaker C: What we do, we talk about spawn. And I'm on the phone talking spawn con. And at the same time, she knows that my buddies, my friends and everybody. [00:31:43] Speaker B: They'Re people that I can rely on, people that I can count. And so she sees the value not. [00:31:48] Speaker C: Just in the collecting side of the. [00:31:50] Speaker B: Toys, but also in how we've expanded our network of friends and how we. [00:31:56] Speaker C: Can travel places and there will be. [00:31:57] Speaker B: A friend waiting for us. That's great. That's awesome, man. [00:32:02] Speaker D: I love it's. Like, each piece of your collection has its own little story, and so you're like the Library of Congress about all of these. That's my favorite part about collecting, is people who have stories attached to each item in it. [00:32:18] Speaker C: David, you hit nail on the head. [00:32:21] Speaker B: Because, yes, every item to me, if. [00:32:24] Speaker C: You come into this room and you're looking, yes, you can find it in Target. Yes, you can find it on ebay, but it's the story behind that item and how I got it or who I got from. [00:32:35] Speaker B: Right. [00:32:36] Speaker C: Kind of like the knockoff spawn figure. And I keep it on my glass case. As you notice, when I went to grab it in my glass case, it's not in the most perfect condition, but the fact of the story behind it makes it special to me. And I keep it in the glass case, and I can speak about that in every item in this room, where I got it from and the story behind it. And I love that. [00:32:57] Speaker B: I love that. [00:32:58] Speaker C: So I'm glad you brought that up. [00:32:59] Speaker B: David. [00:33:03] Speaker A: Which were the new titles are you most excited about? We were just talking about that before we got on. I'm definitely looking forward to no Home here, because that's the one I kind of feel like I don't know the most about. [00:33:19] Speaker B: I agree. [00:33:20] Speaker C: And I say no home here because it's set on a futuristic time. [00:33:25] Speaker B: Right. That's the pitch. And when they announced that comic, I put my head down because I was so bummed. [00:33:33] Speaker C: I was working on an idea of a future spawn, kind of like a walking dead, apocalyptic world in shambles. [00:33:44] Speaker B: And I had come up with this idea of a spawn that's been through. [00:33:48] Speaker C: War and battle, and he's all worn out, and there's a little bit of the cape left, but he has to keep an armor. So I had this whole idea of. [00:33:57] Speaker B: The story that I wanted to work on. [00:33:59] Speaker C: I'm not a comic book artist, but I was going to pitch it to an artist and maybe we can do like a mini comic. And then they announced that and it's. [00:34:06] Speaker B: Like set on a post apocalyptic. [00:34:12] Speaker C: Many images about it. We haven't seen even what I think Spawn looks like. We only seen some random bits and pieces. Here. What I love about it, and probably why I'm so interested about that title is that Jonathan Glapion is attached to it, neil Henriquez. [00:34:27] Speaker B: And right now I consider him kind of like really awesome. Right. [00:34:33] Speaker C: Everybody has their own artist because art is subjective. [00:34:36] Speaker B: But Glapion's art is just so unique. [00:34:41] Speaker C: And has particular style that just to me, it just grabs me. Every image and print and cover that. [00:34:48] Speaker B: He does is just so thinking outside the box. And he's one of our guests at Spawncon. So I'm going to be lining up. [00:34:56] Speaker C: That'S amazing money band organizer. But I think I'm going to be extending in line there a lot of times. Yeah, he's doing 100 limited hang number. [00:35:06] Speaker B: One to 100 limited prints. And that came from Tod. Todd said only 100 prints per artist. And they have to be hang numbered. [00:35:15] Speaker C: And there have to be Spawn con exclusives. [00:35:17] Speaker B: And I'm like, okay, I got to. [00:35:19] Speaker C: Get my Jonathan Glapion print. No matter. Cool. I'm really looking forward to that title. For sure. Maybe there's room for my idea still. [00:35:30] Speaker A: Well, it's ever growing. [00:35:31] Speaker D: Yeah. That's the beauty of the spawn universe that we find ourselves in. You can fit Spawn into anything. It's like a Godzilla movie where Godzilla. [00:35:41] Speaker B: Is kind of usually secondary to the. [00:35:45] Speaker D: Actual plot of the story. It's just like a regular movie that they drop big monsters in. [00:35:50] Speaker C: Absolutely. [00:35:50] Speaker D: You could think of any story and drop a spawn in it and it's just fine. [00:35:53] Speaker C: And the fact that he being todd. [00:35:55] Speaker B: And his creative team have a pirate spawn, medieval spawn, right there's. [00:36:01] Speaker C: The samurai spawn, mandarin spawn, gumshoe spawn. Yes. You can put any timeline in history. [00:36:08] Speaker B: Or future, robotic future, there's a robot. [00:36:11] Speaker C: Spawn and then put something in there that it can work. So that's cool. For anybody that wants to get creative writing or coming up with a plot. [00:36:20] Speaker B: I think it fits in perfectly. [00:36:23] Speaker D: We're real excited for the miniseries that is dinosaur spawn. There's one panel in gunslinger. I don't remember what issue it's in, but there's just this gigantic dinosaur that has a Spawn costume on. And it's like, I need that figure. [00:36:38] Speaker B: I need that book. [00:36:40] Speaker C: You're going to give Tod ideas and the next gold label exclusive is going to be dinosaur spawn. [00:36:46] Speaker A: He does like the dragons, so that would make sense. [00:36:50] Speaker C: We heard it first here from you guys. [00:36:52] Speaker A: We got it. [00:36:53] Speaker B: Dinosaur spawn. [00:36:55] Speaker D: I think Tod McFarland has more thoughts in a 30 minutes segment than I have in a whole entire year. So he's probably already thought of that before me. [00:37:09] Speaker C: If we walk away from the collection. [00:37:11] Speaker B: If we walk away from Spawn. [00:37:15] Speaker C: And one of the reasons why also, I. [00:37:17] Speaker B: Think I collect it's because I was. [00:37:20] Speaker C: Very inspired by the way that he. [00:37:23] Speaker B: Handles the life challenges, the way he. [00:37:26] Speaker C: Handles the business, the way he handles. [00:37:28] Speaker B: Anything that comes his way. [00:37:29] Speaker C: And he's been through ups and downs. He's done his share of mistakes historically. [00:37:35] Speaker B: As well, and well documented. So I think all of these layers. [00:37:39] Speaker C: Have given him this experience where he's. [00:37:41] Speaker B: At right now as an ultimate pop icon and a business owner. So when I'm collecting Spawn, I think about that because about how they told. [00:37:56] Speaker C: Them no, even for myself, when I. [00:37:59] Speaker B: Was buying spawn, the comic, and it. [00:38:04] Speaker C: Should be said some comic book store. [00:38:06] Speaker B: Owners would be like, why are you buying Spawn? You should be buying X Men number. [00:38:11] Speaker C: 25 or Spiderman number 74. [00:38:16] Speaker B: And it kind of puts you down. [00:38:18] Speaker C: But I'm just here trying to buy my Spawn comic book, right? Leave me alone. [00:38:23] Speaker B: And it was the same for him. [00:38:24] Speaker C: Because when he was pitching spawn or when he was trying to make spawn. [00:38:28] Speaker B: Something, he got the nose, he got denied, oh, that's not going to make it. [00:38:33] Speaker C: Oh, it's a hero from hell. That's not going to make it. [00:38:37] Speaker B: That's not going to work. [00:38:39] Speaker C: And he got denied, right? [00:38:40] Speaker B: He got these walls, but he just. [00:38:44] Speaker C: Marched through them and he said, no, I'm going to do it. [00:38:47] Speaker B: And it's happening, right? You probably are very aware that they're spong lighters, right? The spa lighters, right? I have here, right? So when I got one, I got this from Japan. [00:39:06] Speaker C: Here's the little box. [00:39:08] Speaker B: Oh, man, even the box is awesome. And then it's got this. And then there's a violator image. Oh, man. Oh, that's cool. And it's diecast a sippo brand, and it was released in Japan. Nice. So when I bought this and I got it, that thought came into my mind because somebody probably told tod, why. [00:39:32] Speaker C: Are you making simple lighters? [00:39:34] Speaker B: Kids are going to burn themselves. He's like, no, I'm going to make. [00:39:41] Speaker C: Lighters, and I'm going to make spawn lighters. If anybody should have a lighter, it would be marvel with Wolverine because he smoked his cigarettes. He probably would be like a bestseller. [00:39:51] Speaker B: Yeah, here we go with a sippo. [00:39:54] Speaker C: Spawn lighter, official merchandise. [00:39:58] Speaker B: Incredible. And so I buy the item, but. [00:40:02] Speaker C: Not just buying the item, but I. [00:40:03] Speaker B: Think about how someone told tod, dude. [00:40:06] Speaker C: Why are you making lighters? [00:40:08] Speaker B: People are going to kids are going to burn themselves. But he did it, and he takes on the challenge. He's like, no, it's going to work. And he did, and he has, like. [00:40:17] Speaker C: A series of lighters. When I'm collecting, I think about those challenges or think about life challenges that ourselves as people go through, right? Oh, you can't buy that or you're. [00:40:29] Speaker B: Not going to make that work, and. [00:40:31] Speaker C: You take on that challenge and no, I believe it will work. I think it's going to work. [00:40:36] Speaker B: And you follow your dream or you follow your passion when you drive, and it makes happen. So to me, buying in the example of the lighter, it's the test of that. Yes, you can march through it with your vision and make it happen. Make it a reality. Yeah. And same with Sponsor. [00:41:00] Speaker D: We like to think of it as an attitude. It's sort of like a relentlessly positive ability to just sort of get stuff done. If you think of something and you know it needs to exist, you just got to make it exist. You can't let other people not let. [00:41:13] Speaker B: You make it exist. [00:41:14] Speaker C: And I apply that in life. [00:41:16] Speaker B: That's how I go about with life. [00:41:20] Speaker C: I get a lot of comments about I travel a lot and how do you make it happen? [00:41:23] Speaker B: And it's like, in my mind, I. [00:41:26] Speaker C: Already made it happen. In my mind, I already know what my schedule is like for the next. [00:41:31] Speaker B: Two months, and I already know how. [00:41:33] Speaker C: I'm going to fly. I already know where I'm going to fly into, and I already know what stores I'm going to hit. [00:41:38] Speaker B: I already know what I'm going to. [00:41:39] Speaker C: Buy, how I'm going to bring it back. I'm thinking ahead because nothing is going to get in my way of making that happen. So I kind of have that attitude. [00:41:51] Speaker B: And to meet somebody like Tod that. [00:41:55] Speaker C: Applies that mentality into action and making it happen, I feel like we're colleagues of mine in the same way, because we want to make our dreams, our visions come true and Spawn is in the middle. And it kind of reminds me that. [00:42:09] Speaker B: Yes, it is possible. Yeah. It was definitely just kind of doing. [00:42:14] Speaker A: Any project, like, when we were starting this, we didn't know what we were doing at all, and just seeing Tod McFarlane, like, the perseverance really inspired us. [00:42:23] Speaker B: And just that he's a good inspiration for sticking at it, and just look. [00:42:31] Speaker A: How long it's been. And now there's 13 titles. It's crazy. [00:42:35] Speaker B: Who would have thought? Not me. It is. And the big companies try to put him down. [00:42:45] Speaker C: The big companies didn't think he was. [00:42:46] Speaker B: Going to make it, and now he's making action figures for those companies. He's making right. And it's probably like, their best selling product. The action figures for, like, for example, the DC Multiverse, everybody I know, everybody. [00:43:02] Speaker C: I talk to, they're collecting those figures. They love those figures. [00:43:06] Speaker B: They eat them all up, right? There's a Jokerize variant, done deal. There's a glow in the dark. Don deal. [00:43:13] Speaker C: There is a black and white figure. Done deal. [00:43:16] Speaker B: And people are loving it. And Tod created that game. [00:43:21] Speaker C: That's one of the questions I have for him. [00:43:23] Speaker B: When I see him again is, did. [00:43:25] Speaker C: You mean to have 23 versions of Sponge number one? [00:43:29] Speaker B: Because I'm always curious, did you plan. [00:43:33] Speaker C: That up to have like 23 guys thinking like, oh, collectors are going to go crazy trying to find 23 figures. [00:43:40] Speaker B: Of this guy and he's doing that today. [00:43:44] Speaker C: So people complain about all the different. [00:43:45] Speaker B: Versions of a Batman. It's like, dude, hold my beer. [00:43:51] Speaker C: He started game back in 1994 with this Spawn series. One figure and 23 versions. The fact you only have four versions. [00:43:59] Speaker B: Of that one Batman, you're lucky. [00:44:04] Speaker D: Speaking of collecting and speaking of Todd McFarlane, I feel like we have to. [00:44:08] Speaker C: Mention. [00:44:10] Speaker D: The baseball that Tod McFarland spent how many millions of dollars on? Is there anything that you can think of that you would spend a ridiculous amount of money on? Whether it's a good idea or not. [00:44:23] Speaker B: Is there anything that you would just. [00:44:24] Speaker D: Be like, I'm going to have that. [00:44:26] Speaker B: Regardless of anything, there is an item, it's still available. It's out there. I know where it is. [00:44:38] Speaker C: And it's just an insane item. [00:44:43] Speaker B: It is the Guinness World Record plaque that was given to Tod when he. [00:44:50] Speaker C: Broke the record for Spider Man number. [00:44:52] Speaker B: One, that cover where he's crouching. And there's also a million different variations of that cover. [00:45:02] Speaker C: And it's become kind of like the. [00:45:04] Speaker B: Homage cover because a lot of other artists or comic titles kind of make their character on that pose of the. [00:45:13] Speaker C: Crouching with the spiders. So it is a ridiculous amount of money. I wouldn't say like in the millions. Yeah, but I know it's pretty up there and I'm always thinking about it. [00:45:27] Speaker B: Should I get it? [00:45:30] Speaker C: There is that thought, I think, David. [00:45:32] Speaker B: I think I think about it sometimes. Maybe after a couple of gin and. [00:45:36] Speaker C: Tonics, I'm going to buy it tomorrow. [00:45:41] Speaker B: Right? [00:45:42] Speaker D: We're well documented on making bad purchasing decisions after drinking. [00:45:47] Speaker B: Yeah, sometimes I feel brave enough and sometimes I'm like, it's just a piece of paper, right? [00:45:57] Speaker C: But yeah, no, I think there is. [00:45:59] Speaker B: Those items for sure. [00:46:01] Speaker D: Those are ones that even if it ends up being like, maybe I shouldn't have done this, you can still use it to be like, I've got this thing, it's awesome. Let's have a conversation so I can show you this. [00:46:12] Speaker B: No, I wanted to have it. [00:46:14] Speaker C: I wanted to bring it to Spawncon, actually, and have it there for people to see. [00:46:19] Speaker B: So I don't know, because, yeah, like. [00:46:22] Speaker D: The baseball, tod McFarland himself has been like, yeah, I probably shouldn't have done it, but you know how many opportunities I've had with just people being like, did you buy this baseball? Can I see? [00:46:31] Speaker B: That's the thing. Exactly. [00:46:33] Speaker C: You said he bought that baseball. [00:46:36] Speaker B: That was like a great business move. [00:46:40] Speaker C: Because he got his foot in the door on the MLB, on the sports scene. He got his name in the door for all these people. All the sports at Ticioneros and then. [00:46:48] Speaker B: He got the license for his sporting like it was like the deal came through because of that ball. Yeah. So I would say, yeah, that totally. [00:47:01] Speaker A: Totally the sports line. [00:47:05] Speaker D: Aren't they doing another NFL line? [00:47:07] Speaker B: Something? [00:47:08] Speaker D: I think they're doing Figurines. [00:47:10] Speaker C: He got the license again. And he's going to make those figures again. And they're great looking figures. [00:47:15] Speaker B: I'm not oh, man. [00:47:17] Speaker C: But those figures, if I was a sports fan, man, those are freaking amazing looking. [00:47:24] Speaker A: I was always a big fan of the one of my favorites that I had was the Monsters playsets that they made. They had like the Phantom of the Opera and they had, like, wolf. [00:47:33] Speaker B: Man. [00:47:33] Speaker A: I had a couple of those. Those were like my favorites as a kid as far as the McFarland toys were. And I also used to collect all the movie maniacs, the old ones. And I remember really liking the Sleepy Hollow figures, too. Those are really good. [00:47:50] Speaker C: Yes. [00:47:51] Speaker B: Funny bit about the Monsters playlist playsets is that if you look at the characters faces, they use the faces of. [00:48:03] Speaker C: The guys who worked in the toy of McFarlane. Yes. [00:48:09] Speaker B: So the Wolfman plays it, for example, the victim. Yeah, he's like a he is. His face is carbon copy face of. [00:48:23] Speaker C: Steve Hamadi, who was a toy designer back in the McFarlane Toys days. And they put his face on it as the victim. And they call him Steve the Victim and put him in there. [00:48:34] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:48:34] Speaker A: That's hilarious. [00:48:35] Speaker B: That's awesome. [00:48:36] Speaker C: Yeah. So that's like a cool tidbit. And then about the Sleepy Hollow place, it's oh, my. At. [00:48:46] Speaker B: This is the Crane Johnny Depp's character. Right? [00:48:50] Speaker D: Oh, yeah. [00:48:51] Speaker A: Oh, I love that bag. Yeah. [00:48:52] Speaker B: Oh, man. It opens up and then it has. [00:48:56] Speaker C: All these little compartments. [00:48:58] Speaker B: Right? [00:48:59] Speaker A: That's one of my favorite figures. Yeah, he was awesome. [00:49:03] Speaker B: Like a functional bag. [00:49:05] Speaker C: It is, yeah, almost. [00:49:08] Speaker B: Wow. And this is just the accessory that comes in it. Right. And look. And even you can get the potions out of the back. Oh, man. And pulls right out. That's incredible. Yeah. [00:49:27] Speaker A: Those 2000s figures were really something else. [00:49:31] Speaker B: They were. People complained back then. I know they did. [00:49:36] Speaker A: They used to. It's funny. [00:49:38] Speaker B: Oh, no, they did. [00:49:40] Speaker C: They sure did. [00:49:41] Speaker B: Right? They complain that, for example, here's the redeemer antispawn. [00:49:49] Speaker C: He's stuck on this post. There's nothing you can do other than just probably go like that, like the. [00:49:55] Speaker B: Waist and the arm. But this is the post that is designed for, like it to look like that. So people complain like you're making statues. [00:50:05] Speaker C: Those are not action figures. [00:50:06] Speaker B: Those are statues. Oh, man. I would never stop hearing how people. [00:50:11] Speaker C: Complain about McFarland figures back then. [00:50:13] Speaker B: I remember. Yeah, then now he makes it with articulation. Yeah. Right. [00:50:20] Speaker C: Like state medieval spawn from fucking love. [00:50:23] Speaker D: That figure so much. [00:50:24] Speaker B: That's a great figure. [00:50:25] Speaker C: Right? Oh, the paint applications are not as. [00:50:29] Speaker B: Good as the old figures. [00:50:32] Speaker C: Why can't they be like statues. They were so much better. [00:50:37] Speaker B: My goodness. [00:50:39] Speaker C: Now, if you were to ask me right. [00:50:42] Speaker B: Yes. The paint applications back then were super detail. Yeah, right? I mean, you can tell that they. [00:50:52] Speaker C: Put a lot of work on the details of that figure alone. [00:50:55] Speaker B: And then our new medieval spawn, I always thought they should have painted the boot. [00:51:01] Speaker C: They should have put more detail on. [00:51:04] Speaker B: This, the belt area. Right. So as a fan that's been collecting them for a while, can I tell the differences? [00:51:11] Speaker C: Absolutely. But at the end of the day, hey, you're getting spawn product at a Target. Before, you were, like, $24, anything spawn related. And now I can walk into a Walmart and I'll find spawn figures. I can go to a Target and find spawn figures. [00:51:29] Speaker B: So, yeah, hey, take it as they come and be happy with yeah, they're still really good. [00:51:35] Speaker D: I love that medieval figure so much. I have it at my desk at work, and every time I look at. [00:51:41] Speaker B: It, I'm like, you want to repost it, right? [00:51:43] Speaker C: You want to repose them? [00:51:44] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:51:45] Speaker B: No, for sure. [00:51:47] Speaker C: People say that I don't open the. [00:51:49] Speaker B: Figures, but I do. I open the ones that I like. [00:51:52] Speaker C: And I want to play repose. And this figure, the amount of customizers that have repainted this figure such amazing way. [00:52:01] Speaker B: Yeah, they've been knocking it out of. [00:52:03] Speaker D: The park, those repainting that they've done, man. [00:52:06] Speaker C: So one of the guys, Dino, he's. [00:52:09] Speaker B: Bringing a few of these repainted ones. [00:52:12] Speaker C: To the show, and I told him, Save me one, because I really like to have a metal finish to his armor. [00:52:20] Speaker A: That's one other thing about the spawn community, is they're also creative. Spawn Safari made us pins and sent them to us. It was so nice. I'm just like, oh, no. Yeah, it was really cool. He made us Scorched be with you pens, and you've got all your stuff, and it's just cool to see how everyone's so creative and makes their own things in the spawn community, which is just really I that was the other thing. It's just everyone, even if you're not. [00:52:52] Speaker B: An artist, you can't draw. [00:52:54] Speaker A: People are really creative, which is really cool, and they really make stuff with the ownership of spawn, which is fun, that they get to be a part of it. [00:53:03] Speaker B: Absolutely. [00:53:03] Speaker C: I'm glad you brought up sponsor Harry, because Josh is a good friend, too. He sent me spawn hunter pins. [00:53:10] Speaker B: It totally kind of did not expect that at all. [00:53:13] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:53:14] Speaker C: Send me this pin. [00:53:16] Speaker D: I got one of them right here. It's blurring it out. Stop blurring it out. [00:53:21] Speaker B: Oh, no. It's like it's censored. [00:53:24] Speaker D: Censored can't see it. You can't see it. But yeah, they're awesome. [00:53:27] Speaker C: And he's and then the way he presented them and josh, I hope you're hearing this, but so professional, so pretty. [00:53:36] Speaker B: I had to open up this box. [00:53:39] Speaker C: And then you open the box, and then there's the pins and the Spawn Hunter pins, and I was so grateful that he did that. And like you said, everybody works on their own brands. There's a very popular in the Spawn. [00:53:52] Speaker B: Community website called Spawnworld.com. [00:53:57] Speaker C: Spawnworld.com. It's run by Trent Klaus. [00:54:00] Speaker B: Trent Klaus. Who? [00:54:02] Speaker C: He lives in Nebraska. [00:54:03] Speaker B: And I've gone to Trent's house and. [00:54:06] Speaker C: Saw his collection, which is mind blowing. Insanely mind blowing. [00:54:10] Speaker B: And I got him a Spawn Hunter shirt. [00:54:13] Speaker C: This is the hoodie, but I got. [00:54:14] Speaker B: Him a Spawn Hunter shirt, and he's. [00:54:16] Speaker C: Like, oh, my gosh, thank you so much. The famous Spawn Hunter shirt. [00:54:19] Speaker B: I'm like, So he's coming to Spawncon. [00:54:22] Speaker C: And I was talking to him, okay, you need anything I can help you with? [00:54:26] Speaker B: Like, I think I'm good, but thank you. And guess what, Ty? I'm like what? [00:54:31] Speaker C: I got a Spawn World T shirt for. Thanks, Trent. So, yeah, John, like you said, we're. [00:54:38] Speaker B: All working on our own kind of. [00:54:41] Speaker C: Thing with the brand and doing things that we can connect and trade with each other. Hey, here's a pin. Oh, here's a coin. [00:54:48] Speaker B: Oh, here's a T shirt, dude. [00:54:50] Speaker C: It's so cool. It goes back to what David said. [00:54:52] Speaker B: About everybody having a positive mindset to the be pat. [00:54:58] Speaker A: We got stickers made. We'll be passing out stickers at Spawncon, so I'll give a gift, get you. [00:55:04] Speaker C: A big stack of oh, I'll get you a stack of stickers, too. I'm bringing them to. [00:55:11] Speaker B: I just got these new ones. [00:55:13] Speaker A: Oh, those are awesome. [00:55:14] Speaker B: Wow, those are cool. [00:55:16] Speaker D: Those are great. [00:55:17] Speaker B: So I'll bring those. You can definitely have the Bodh Hunter sticker. Oh, man. [00:55:24] Speaker A: Have you guys figured out where we drinking at night yet? Have you guys figured that out yet? [00:55:29] Speaker B: We got options. Okay. [00:55:31] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:55:32] Speaker B: Sounds like fun. [00:55:34] Speaker D: This is your backyard, so you know where all the good places are. [00:55:37] Speaker B: Oh, I think people are going to. [00:55:38] Speaker C: Have a lot of fun because the convention floor that we got at the hotel, it's a double tree hotel tilton. [00:55:45] Speaker B: The bar is, like, the next bar, right. [00:55:50] Speaker C: And the Q A, where we're having. [00:55:52] Speaker B: The speakers is the next door after the bar. [00:55:55] Speaker C: So I think everybody's going to make their way to the bar, grab their. [00:55:58] Speaker B: Drinks, go to the Q and A, come back to the bar, get another. [00:56:01] Speaker C: Drink, go back to the convention floor. The bar is open till 11:00 p.m., but then there's also a tequila bar and a brewery that open till midnight. [00:56:09] Speaker A: Oh, great. [00:56:11] Speaker B: Sounds good to me. [00:56:14] Speaker A: I got to get Thomas Healy drunk and grill him about some stuff. [00:56:18] Speaker B: Well, he's expecting that. Okay, good. [00:56:23] Speaker A: I'm sure it'll happen. [00:56:25] Speaker C: Bring your drinking game on. [00:56:26] Speaker A: Oh, I will. [00:56:27] Speaker C: It went from drinks to now we're talking about a keg. [00:56:30] Speaker B: Oh, wow. [00:56:32] Speaker C: It's getting serious by the moment. [00:56:34] Speaker A: You got to do the keg stands upside down. Bring me back to my college days. [00:56:40] Speaker B: Well, we have the space to do a lot of things that's going to be awesome. [00:56:45] Speaker A: Yeah, I can't wait. That's going to be so much fun. [00:56:47] Speaker B: So both of you will be going then? [00:56:49] Speaker D: No, I had some prior commitments for that be I will be sitting at. [00:56:55] Speaker B: Home being like, damn it. Well, you'll have to ask John to. [00:57:00] Speaker C: Get you some exclusives then. [00:57:02] Speaker B: Oh, I will. Definitely. [00:57:03] Speaker A: Oh, I'm being required. Got. We got a friend to get us one of the shirts from San Diego Comic Con. So we're going to be getting those too. [00:57:13] Speaker D: They haven't put them in the mail yet. [00:57:15] Speaker B: So is that the black one with the orb? I think so. [00:57:19] Speaker A: It's just like the classic Spawn logo. I'm excited about the shirts at Spawncon. [00:57:25] Speaker B: So I told you how Tod kind. [00:57:28] Speaker C: Of wanted to see all the T shirts. He kind of wanted to. No. [00:57:33] Speaker B: Yes. [00:57:34] Speaker C: And there was a T shirt that. [00:57:36] Speaker B: Was not in the pitch, but Todd said, no, there's no red sponsor with the orb. We should have one. So he wanted a red shirt with the orb. Okay, make it exclusive. Make that one exclusive. So we're like, all right, we'll take the red orb, the exclusive. And it is that's the exclusive is the red T shirt with the orb. And he said that's never been done before. He's always done a black with the orb. And he's like, he wanted a red with the orb. [00:58:18] Speaker C: And maybe red's his favorite color. [00:58:20] Speaker B: It makes sense. So they're talking about stories. There's your story about the red orb. [00:58:28] Speaker C: Shirt that you'll see at Spawn Con. [00:58:30] Speaker D: Oh, hell yeah. [00:58:33] Speaker A: Is that the one that comes with the VIP ticket? [00:58:36] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay, cool. [00:58:37] Speaker A: I'll be getting one then because I got the VIP. [00:58:39] Speaker C: I got one myself. [00:58:42] Speaker B: I'm getting stuff for everybody. I feel like, wait, shouldn't I be getting, like, a discount? [00:58:48] Speaker A: Yeah, I put this together. [00:58:53] Speaker D: You think it would be free for the founder of the convention. [00:59:00] Speaker B: Funny you mentioned that. Thank you. Because all the money that we are putting together for this is just like if we come out even, it's a win for us because it's all of us from our own pockets kind of making it happen, or people that we know. We have a person that has a. [00:59:21] Speaker C: Presser for the T shirt, so we were able to get that. [00:59:26] Speaker B: Like, my own kids are volunteers and. [00:59:29] Speaker C: Another friend's kids are volunteers. So we got that covered. My neighbor has a set of Hunter walkie talkies. [00:59:35] Speaker B: He's like, oh, you're going to need. [00:59:36] Speaker C: This to communicate with each other. [00:59:39] Speaker B: Great. So we got walkie talkies. [00:59:41] Speaker C: So everything that you're seeing come together. [00:59:43] Speaker B: Is just like kind of all of us being resourceful about it. Yeah, but I just had that commercial ghost. [00:59:53] Speaker C: Not just the president, but also member. I'm glad to be buying this stuff. [00:59:59] Speaker B: Because it gives me joy to get. [01:00:01] Speaker C: A T shirt for my guys in. [01:00:02] Speaker B: France, to my guys in Brazil, to. [01:00:05] Speaker C: My guys in Mexico. That can't come. And they asked me to get them shirts and stuff. [01:00:09] Speaker B: So I'm more than happy to do that to help them out. [01:00:12] Speaker C: I mean, when are we going to have stuff that says official Spawn Con. [01:00:16] Speaker B: First year T shirts ever again? I mean, this is yeah, right. [01:00:22] Speaker C: You look back at San Diego Comic. [01:00:23] Speaker B: Con, the stuff from the first San. [01:00:25] Speaker C: Diego Comic Con goes for so much. [01:00:27] Speaker B: Like the first T shirt, the first poster. [01:00:31] Speaker C: Even if they had a poster, you. [01:00:32] Speaker B: Just probably paper ad. So our shirts will have in the. [01:00:36] Speaker C: Back of the neck. And you see in the pictures, they. [01:00:38] Speaker B: Say Spawn Con year one. Right. [01:00:41] Speaker C: So it's a nice detail that we. [01:00:42] Speaker B: Added on the T shirts so that. [01:00:45] Speaker C: They set them apart. [01:00:46] Speaker B: And the standard Spawn T shirts. Nice. [01:00:50] Speaker D: I plan on putting so many sweat stains in my shirts that anybody who wants to buy it secondhand will be very desperate. [01:01:01] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:01] Speaker A: In 20 years, you can sell it for $200 on ebay. [01:01:04] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:01:04] Speaker B: People are going to be like, wait, you got the first Spawn Cone shirt. [01:01:09] Speaker C: Yeah, I do. And maybe I shouldn't say this, but there's a guy that wants to buy like, 20 shirts. [01:01:15] Speaker B: And we're like, why you want 20 shirts, dude? These are going to be collector's items. I'm like, all right, man. Okay. [01:01:23] Speaker C: Go for it, man. [01:01:24] Speaker B: Go for it. [01:01:26] Speaker C: The coins are going to be cool. [01:01:31] Speaker D: The coin hunt, I think is a great idea, like gamifying the convention. So it's not just like a collection of people, but it's a collection of people getting together to play a game. [01:01:42] Speaker B: I think that's great. Oh, man, it's so cool. [01:01:45] Speaker C: All of these. [01:01:46] Speaker B: And again, these ideas are not for me. Maybe I had a couple of ideas. [01:01:52] Speaker C: Here and there, but everything is from. [01:01:53] Speaker B: The people, the organizers that we just. [01:01:56] Speaker C: Had conference calls and like, how about this and how about that? [01:02:00] Speaker B: It just grew. It just grew. [01:02:01] Speaker C: A lot of stuff didn't make the cut. A lot of stuff did make the cut. And we're really blessed about it. [01:02:08] Speaker B: And I think it's just surreal, man. [01:02:11] Speaker C: I think we're going to have to. [01:02:13] Speaker B: Pinch me on Saturday 09:00 a.m. [01:02:15] Speaker C: When everybody starts coming into the convention. [01:02:18] Speaker B: I was like, holy shit, I'm nervous. [01:02:19] Speaker A: I bet. [01:02:20] Speaker B: Yeah. There's always like, what if, right? What if this happens? Or what if? And I thought, okay, listen, no matter what. And again, this goes back to the beginning of the conversation we just had today. If we remove the merch, if we. [01:02:36] Speaker C: Remove the artist, at the end of the day, we're going to have a. [01:02:40] Speaker B: Convention floor that's going to be like. [01:02:42] Speaker C: The Spawn flea market. And we're just going to have fun. [01:02:46] Speaker B: And there's a bar next door. [01:02:48] Speaker C: We'll have fun, share stories. [01:02:51] Speaker B: I know Thomas Healy's for sure coming. [01:02:53] Speaker C: And we can just sit around like the Hobits and listening to billboards. [01:03:02] Speaker B: I was excited because you never. [01:03:04] Speaker A: Get more than like, one or two people in the same room that know Spawn. And now you'll have a whole group because you get your friends together and everyone knows the video games or Star Wars, but not everyone's into Spawn. And just to get that many people together, it's going to be surreal. [01:03:22] Speaker D: Or if you get people who know Spawn, there's a lot of people who are like, Spawn is dumb. And it's like, well, that's not constructive. [01:03:30] Speaker A: Or they kind of remember it. They're like, I remember the movie. Wasn't there a movie? And then you're like, yeah, there's a movie. [01:03:36] Speaker B: There's a lot of stuff. Yeah. Oh, yeah, exactly. [01:03:40] Speaker C: You guys said it. If anything, we're going to get out of it. That weekend is going to be exactly that. And you'll be able to talk to Trent from Spawn World. And if you have any questions about variants or the stories behind variants and. [01:03:53] Speaker B: How that happened there's Trent, there's going to be the artists and people that. [01:04:01] Speaker C: They can tell you about it. [01:04:02] Speaker B: I mean, here's the other thing, right? So as we're doing this convention, we're. [01:04:06] Speaker C: Like, oh, man, how many people are we going to get? [01:04:08] Speaker B: And I said, you know what? Even if we get like 50 people and you got Jonathan Glapion with us, dude, how cool is that? [01:04:17] Speaker C: Probably he's going to be, like, talking. [01:04:18] Speaker B: To us about Spawn all day long. [01:04:22] Speaker C: We get Jonathan for ourselves. [01:04:24] Speaker B: Come on. That to me is great. That's dope. Yeah. [01:04:29] Speaker C: He's not having like, a San Diego Comic Con line where you got hundreds of people waiting hours. [01:04:36] Speaker B: It's going to be like Jonathan over. [01:04:38] Speaker C: And over and over, going around in circles again and again and just talking about Spawn. [01:04:44] Speaker D: You'll get to have like, an actual conversation instead of trying to figure out what one three second question. Do you want to yes. [01:04:51] Speaker B: Yes. [01:04:52] Speaker C: And then for the serious collectors, we. [01:04:54] Speaker B: Have CGC, we got CBCS, we got Witness graders. So those people that want to get their book signed and graded right there and comic book collecting, they're going to love that. To have their book witness on the spot and then submit it to CGC. [01:05:15] Speaker C: Or CBCS, whatever you like. I think we're kind of catering for collectors as well to have that opportunity to get book signed and graded as well. [01:05:24] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, that's perfect. Yeah, it's excellent. [01:05:29] Speaker A: I can't go down that rabbit hole yet. I can't go down the slab. I have a couple, but I'm actually going to look for the one thing I said I would get if I can find a slab. King spawn number one. I want to get that because I love that cover. [01:05:42] Speaker B: Which other covers? [01:05:43] Speaker A: The classic, like, the first one with the puppeteer Lee cover on king Spawn number one is like, one of my favorites. [01:05:51] Speaker B: I heard this delicious rumor that because. [01:05:54] Speaker C: We talked about statues, there hasn't been. [01:05:56] Speaker B: A Spawn statue yet. And we know that Tod makes DC statues, and he's pretty good at it. [01:06:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:06:04] Speaker B: So there was a rumor that the. [01:06:08] Speaker C: Next Spawn statue was going to be. [01:06:09] Speaker B: Based off that cover. [01:06:10] Speaker A: Oh, perfect. That'd be awesome. [01:06:12] Speaker C: I think that would be very awesome. [01:06:14] Speaker B: If it's based off that cover, because iconic. [01:06:17] Speaker C: I love it. [01:06:18] Speaker B: It's beautiful. [01:06:19] Speaker A: It's what drew me in. I walked into the comic shop. I just started getting into comics, and I always kind of liked Spawn, but I saw that cover, and I was. [01:06:26] Speaker B: Like, I have to read that. It's so cool. [01:06:30] Speaker C: And I'm so glad you did, because. [01:06:32] Speaker B: That is one of the most best reads. [01:06:36] Speaker A: Oh, my God. [01:06:36] Speaker C: Writing wise, is the king Spawn. [01:06:38] Speaker B: Right? [01:06:39] Speaker A: It sucked me right in. Like, it sucked me right in. And then I started I was like. [01:06:42] Speaker C: I have to know more. [01:06:43] Speaker A: And I got the Compendiums and everything. And King Spawn Sean Lewis is killing it. [01:06:48] Speaker B: Oh, man. If I begin to tell you how. [01:06:51] Speaker C: Many people we wanted to bring to, you know, our budget is just like, five dudes budgets. [01:06:58] Speaker B: But we wanted to bring Sean. [01:07:00] Speaker C: We wanted to bring former toy designers. [01:07:03] Speaker B: We wanted to bring even well, we. [01:07:07] Speaker C: Wanted to really bring John Leguizamo, but he was not been that would have. [01:07:12] Speaker D: Been a major gift. [01:07:14] Speaker B: Oh, boy. I told John, dude, I will pick you up and set you up and whatever you like. [01:07:21] Speaker C: I'll bring you food to your I. [01:07:25] Speaker D: Will cook your food. My mom will cook your food. [01:07:28] Speaker C: Well, I'll massage your was a he. [01:07:33] Speaker B: Was on a top top. [01:07:35] Speaker C: Because I think John is such an awesome human being, and he's been in so many movies. So then it's not just the Spawn. [01:07:42] Speaker B: That crew that we get in, but. [01:07:44] Speaker C: Maybe the John Wick people that want to get something signed by John Liquisamo. [01:07:47] Speaker B: Right. [01:07:48] Speaker C: So it was just, oh, man. [01:07:50] Speaker B: But so many cool things that, hey. [01:07:54] Speaker C: We'Re making it happen. [01:07:55] Speaker B: And I know that if we do. [01:07:56] Speaker C: Again, we'll have a list of the guys that we couldn't bring in the first round. [01:07:59] Speaker B: Yeah, definitely. [01:08:01] Speaker A: John Leguizamo always talks very kindly about the movie and about Tod McFarland. I think he really enjoyed the part. [01:08:07] Speaker B: Which is cool how he was great in it. [01:08:09] Speaker A: He's great. [01:08:10] Speaker D: He was really a show. [01:08:13] Speaker B: He never does have measures. He stole show. [01:08:16] Speaker C: And it's so crazy. I mean, we can talk about this more at the spuncon, but it's crazy how everybody wanted to bring John Leguizamo, but we didn't really bring up Michael J. White's. [01:08:25] Speaker B: Name of the equation. [01:08:27] Speaker C: But we're just talking about John leguizamo. [01:08:29] Speaker B: Right. [01:08:30] Speaker C: It's crazy how that works, right? How you connect with somebody from the movie, and the person that everybody connects. [01:08:38] Speaker B: With is John Mcglum. What day are you arriving? I'm getting in Friday. Okay. [01:08:44] Speaker A: So if you guys are doing anything Friday night, I guess I'll hit you up. [01:08:48] Speaker B: Oh, we'll be in the hotel and everything. Oh, great. [01:08:52] Speaker A: I'll be there. [01:08:53] Speaker B: Yeah, we'll be there. Just go downstairs and it's the biggest room. Well, I think any door you hid. [01:09:02] Speaker C: In there, it's going to lead you to there. [01:09:04] Speaker B: Oh, cool. It's a combination of four conference rooms put together. So they took down the walls and. [01:09:10] Speaker C: The four conference rooms became just one room. [01:09:13] Speaker B: So you can't miss it. [01:09:14] Speaker A: That's going to be awesome. [01:09:15] Speaker C: It's bigger than a man. Anybody wants to get married and Thomas. [01:09:21] Speaker D: It would be great if somebody got married as Wanda and Terry. [01:09:30] Speaker B: Thomas Healy. [01:09:31] Speaker C: Can officiate the wedding. [01:09:34] Speaker D: That would be beautiful. [01:09:35] Speaker A: Officiator in chief. [01:09:37] Speaker B: Yes. Yeah. [01:09:39] Speaker C: Everybody's looking forward to Thomas Healy. And everybody that I talked to about. [01:09:42] Speaker B: Thomas Healey, they're like, I got to. [01:09:45] Speaker C: Buy him a drink. [01:09:46] Speaker A: I'm like, yeah, he's going to be drunk. [01:09:48] Speaker C: Poor guy. [01:09:49] Speaker B: He's going to need an Uber. [01:09:55] Speaker D: He's going to need somebody to drag him upstairs to his room is what he's going to need. [01:09:59] Speaker C: Thank goodness everything is in the same hotel room, right. And the elevator is right there. [01:10:03] Speaker A: That makes it easy. [01:10:05] Speaker B: Or we set them up underneath a table somewhere. [01:10:10] Speaker D: You just put a tent. It's the Healy tent. [01:10:14] Speaker B: Yes. [01:10:15] Speaker A: Do not disturb. [01:10:17] Speaker B: No. [01:10:18] Speaker C: I'm so glad talking to you guys. [01:10:20] Speaker B: Today because we've been nervous, we've been anxious. [01:10:25] Speaker C: Just yesterday, like I said, I got the merchandise, I got the badges, and you want to make sure those get. [01:10:30] Speaker B: In before the convention. [01:10:32] Speaker C: Everything is in. Everything is accounted for. And I can tell you it looks great. [01:10:38] Speaker B: Super pumped. [01:10:39] Speaker C: I didn't want to post any pictures. [01:10:41] Speaker B: But just calling stuff, I'm like, oh. [01:10:44] Speaker C: My God, this looks so awesome. The pins, everything. I think you guys are going to have a great time and I'm looking. [01:10:53] Speaker B: Forward to connect with you. Oh, yeah. I can't wait to meet you. Yes. [01:10:58] Speaker C: And we're going to be there. [01:11:00] Speaker B: And anything you need. [01:11:01] Speaker C: Also, obviously, I live in Colorado, so. [01:11:05] Speaker B: If there's anything I can help you with, let me doing. [01:11:09] Speaker A: Looks like I'm covered. They got restaurants and stuff around there. There's a weed store closed, so that's good. [01:11:15] Speaker B: That's all I need. [01:11:17] Speaker C: You're going to have plenty of that. [01:11:19] Speaker A: Yeah, I was doing better research. [01:11:22] Speaker B: That's interesting. [01:11:25] Speaker C: It's going to be smelling like weed a lot. Yeah. [01:11:29] Speaker A: Very discreet. [01:11:30] Speaker B: Very discreet. [01:11:31] Speaker C: It's all good. [01:11:32] Speaker B: We have these vaporizer pens, right. [01:11:36] Speaker A: You've got to get one of those. [01:11:37] Speaker C: Oakless and odorless and that's like the. [01:11:39] Speaker B: Most popular product here. [01:11:41] Speaker A: That's what they needed. Taylor needs to get Javi one of the vapor pens so he can stop smoking cigarettes in gunslinger. They need to get Javy a vape. [01:11:51] Speaker C: He'd be like, what the hell is suggested to Healy? I might take you up on that. [01:11:58] Speaker A: Taylor needs to give Javi a jewel. [01:12:03] Speaker D: If you suggest that to Thomas Healy, Johnny, and then it goes into the books. We're never going to shut up about that. [01:12:08] Speaker B: I'll be so like, hey, we're going. [01:12:10] Speaker D: To beat random people on the bus be like, hey, I got this in here. [01:12:13] Speaker C: I got that in first here. [01:12:15] Speaker B: Absolutely. [01:12:17] Speaker C: When that panel comes, when he gets. [01:12:19] Speaker B: Hand over the jewel, we'll this. That's convenient. [01:12:26] Speaker D: Speaking of being Colorado local and not to blow up your spots or anything, but is there like one shop in the Colorado area that you're always pumped to go to? It's a place you love shopping, whether for Spawn items or non spawn items. If you got one day in the Denver area to go do comic stuff, what one place are you going to. [01:12:51] Speaker B: Say you should hit? Great question. [01:12:54] Speaker C: So I live in Loveland, which is about an hour north of Denver, an hour north of where the convention is. [01:13:01] Speaker B: Going to be at. So in my area, there is a small store that's just really small, but. [01:13:10] Speaker C: I love going there because the customer. [01:13:12] Speaker B: Service is great and that's boss comics. [01:13:14] Speaker C: And we just talk, talk, and then he'll have one back issue of Spawn, but everything else is just a connection with the owner. And he's such a wonderful person, and I like that. [01:13:25] Speaker B: So I love visiting him. [01:13:27] Speaker C: Now, if I'm in a Denver area where we're going to be for the. [01:13:30] Speaker B: Convention, there is a store I really. [01:13:32] Speaker C: Like because he has the most Spawn figures I've ever seen in a Denver area comic book store. And that's vision oddities. [01:13:40] Speaker B: And comics and these guys have like. [01:13:43] Speaker C: Three walls of spawn figures, all stuff especially. And the guys are great. They're very cool, off the wall guys. And I like going there because the service and I get my Spawn figures there. [01:13:56] Speaker B: Now here's what everybody's going to tell. [01:13:58] Speaker C: You, is that in Denver, it's Mile High comics. [01:14:01] Speaker B: Yeah, in Mile High comics for the. [01:14:03] Speaker C: Name that's been iconic for many years. It is. I'm not a particular fan of Mile High comics because their prices are really like they're charging you tourist prices for Spawn figures. [01:14:15] Speaker B: So, like, imagine an overkilled or a. [01:14:18] Speaker C: Violator series one, right? [01:14:20] Speaker B: Like this guy. Yeah, look at that long jaw. [01:14:25] Speaker C: So this figure really, when I go to comic book store, sells for like 499 799 in package, sealed in package. [01:14:35] Speaker B: Well, Mile High comics will have this figure for 49 99. [01:14:39] Speaker C: And that's what it's a turn off for me about Mile High comics is. [01:14:43] Speaker B: Because of their price gouging, it's so stupid. But you want to go because you've. [01:14:50] Speaker C: Heard of the name, because, you know, everybody talks about Mile High comics and it is the size of a costco. [01:14:56] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, wow. But just for comics, toys, statues, everything, pop culture, it's a huge right. [01:15:04] Speaker C: So you can spend a good hour plus walking through the hallways of this store. [01:15:09] Speaker B: But as a collector, Spawn collector, it's. [01:15:11] Speaker C: A turn off because I'll get to the spawn area and I'll find figures that should be $10, and they're charging. [01:15:19] Speaker B: $30 on top of it. [01:15:20] Speaker C: And the condition is not that good either. That's my take on my high comics. Speaking as a spawn collector, I don't know anything else about their back issues, prices, or anything else. I just know that if I do go, I know I'm not going to buy anything because why am I going. [01:15:38] Speaker B: To buy a $40 violator when I can? When those sell for, like, people want to get rid of them, they just give them away. But I wouldn't deter you from going to Mile High comics, because you can. [01:15:52] Speaker C: Say, hey, I've been to Mile high comics. [01:15:54] Speaker B: Right. [01:15:54] Speaker A: It'd be interesting to walk around and. [01:15:56] Speaker C: Absolutely. [01:15:59] Speaker B: Don'T let my opinion deter it from oh, yeah. Everybody that comes, they ask me, take me to my high, take me to my high. I'm like, all right, let's go to my high. [01:16:10] Speaker A: I just love something like that, because in the city, in Chicago, the stores are so small. [01:16:15] Speaker C: They are. [01:16:16] Speaker A: So it'd be nice to go to. [01:16:17] Speaker B: A big one and just check it out. Then you're going to love it. [01:16:20] Speaker C: Then you're going to love it, and you're going to enjoy it. [01:16:23] Speaker B: They're open late, I believe. So what time do you get in on Friday? [01:16:27] Speaker A: I think like six or seven. I can't remember. [01:16:29] Speaker B: Six or seven evening? Yeah. Okay. So more likely it would probably be. [01:16:36] Speaker C: Saturday that you can go visit them, or maybe Friday. I'll have to check what time they close, but from convention to there, it's. [01:16:44] Speaker B: Probably going to take you 20 to 25 minutes. Okay. All right. [01:16:50] Speaker A: Yeah. I don't know. I don't know what I'll do. I might just sit at applebee's and drink Dollar Margaritas. [01:16:56] Speaker C: No, you sit with us. [01:16:58] Speaker B: No, I will. [01:16:59] Speaker A: I just heard that I heard that applebee's is doing dollar Margaritas right now. [01:17:02] Speaker C: Which I can't okay. [01:17:06] Speaker A: Which is wild. [01:17:07] Speaker D: Do we even have an applebee's in Chicago? [01:17:10] Speaker B: I don't know. I don't think so. I don't think. [01:17:15] Speaker A: Got. We've got a really nice local store. [01:17:18] Speaker B: Here called toy de Jour that's a. [01:17:20] Speaker A: Really fun they're pretty small, but they've got a lot of good spawn stuff. [01:17:24] Speaker B: Okay. [01:17:25] Speaker A: And it's nice and well priced, too. I got the future Spawn, like, the mech in the box, and it was only, like, $1213. It was a good deal. [01:17:35] Speaker B: I want to get that figure to open. Yeah. [01:17:39] Speaker A: I haven't opened it's in the other room, but it's a good one. [01:17:42] Speaker C: So you probably saw it on instagram. [01:17:43] Speaker B: Just now, but this figure, the Commander spawn spawn Four. So this guy I love it to have it open. Cool. [01:17:51] Speaker C: I think it's a great, sharp looking figure. [01:17:53] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. It's amazing. [01:17:55] Speaker B: When I was traveling, one store wanted 44 99 for this figure, and I'm like, can you do 35? [01:18:05] Speaker C: And like, no, that's an expensive figure. I'm like, all right. [01:18:08] Speaker B: The next day this is in new Jersey, I went to a different store, and the same figure was 1299, man. So naturally, I opened it. I got him and opened it, but. [01:18:22] Speaker C: That'S the deal you want to find, right? Yeah, that's how I like to buy figures. I don't like to go to a store and see something that I know. It's not worth that much. The packaging is all beat up. [01:18:34] Speaker B: And why are you charging those prices? [01:18:37] Speaker C: So I feel like you got to. [01:18:39] Speaker B: Hunt for the good deal, and I'm. [01:18:42] Speaker C: Happy I was able to find that figure for that price and be able. [01:18:46] Speaker B: To open it and display it and now have a giveaway about it. Yeah, that's awesome. [01:18:51] Speaker A: We'd love to have you back for, like, a full episode where we read the issues soon, if you want to do that. That would be awesome. [01:18:59] Speaker C: Absolutely love to. You let me know the title, let me know the issue, and we'll go through it. [01:19:06] Speaker B: Yeah, we could do it either from. [01:19:08] Speaker C: Here or I can be in a hotel room. But either way, I always bring my laptop with me. [01:19:13] Speaker B: Cool. [01:19:13] Speaker D: Hell, yeah. [01:19:14] Speaker B: No, it's great that you're in the Spawn cave today. That's awesome. [01:19:20] Speaker D: I've just been staring at it the whole time. I'm trying to see if you have the Spawn Zamboni, the first todd toy. The Zamboni. [01:19:34] Speaker B: Oh, boy. So the Violator monster. Rick It's AFA graded. Oh, nice. It's sealed in plastic case, and it's graded AFA 85. Oh, nice. Automobile is also AFA graded. [01:19:52] Speaker C: This one's AFA graded 80. [01:19:53] Speaker B: So it's still in that plastic. Oh, man. I have my Japanese comics here. Oh, hell, yeah. Video games here. [01:20:03] Speaker C: There's the Spawn play set up. [01:20:05] Speaker B: There, spawn Alley. Saw that. [01:20:08] Speaker C: Then there's the Medieval Spawns. [01:20:10] Speaker B: All the variations of the medieval spawn. [01:20:12] Speaker D: Oh, man. [01:20:13] Speaker B: Here's. [01:20:14] Speaker C: That Medicom Spawn. [01:20:15] Speaker B: Twelve inch. There's the baseball signed by Todd. Oh, hell, yeah.
