[00:00:00] Speaker A: As I predicted, Spawn returned to me later that night as we began preparations for our attack. Of course, we knew the odds were against us. Many others had already tried and failed to liberate the dead zones from blood. But we knew God was on our side, and we'd all made our peace with dying. Still, even with that, none of us were prepared for what transpired that night and all the chaos our actions would unleash onto the world that night when the Lord's light shined upon us.
A good evening and welcome to the Malibols. This is regarding Spawn, the world's best Spawn podcast. I'm your co host, John Fisher.
[00:01:15] Speaker B: And I am your co host, David Williams. And I am dying of anticipation over here.
[00:01:20] Speaker A: Johnny Antici.
Say it. Patient. That's what you do when you see Rocky Horror.
[00:01:26] Speaker B: Oh, man. My favorite part. Can you guess what my favorite part is, Johnny?
[00:01:30] Speaker A: When you throw this force at the screen or whatever.
[00:01:32] Speaker B: It's when you throw the hot dogs.
[00:01:34] Speaker A: Oh, you throw the hot dogs.
[00:01:35] Speaker B: When he calls them a hot dog, you throw the hot dogs.
[00:01:39] Speaker A: I've never seen Rocky Horror Live. I just know the culture behind it a little bit.
[00:01:44] Speaker B: One of the student groups at OSU would do it at the student union every year and we went once. It was great. It was so much fun.
[00:01:54] Speaker A: That's awesome.
[00:01:54] Speaker B: You should definitely do it. We should do it at the Music Box. Does it every year too.
[00:01:58] Speaker A: Yeah, we can do the Music Box. I'd be down.
[00:02:00] Speaker B: They usually do it at the end of the year. So we've got a.
Was that good, bud? Got a dog hacking in the background. Sorry about that, guys.
[00:02:08] Speaker A: Hacking dog.
[00:02:09] Speaker B: Hacking Dog. But yeah, we should. I mean, there's enough time, Johnny. We could probably organize a December 2025 regarding spawn meetup at the midnight Rocky Horror show at the Music Box.
[00:02:21] Speaker A: We could. We could try. Did I mention on the show I just went to the Music Box? I think I did.
[00:02:26] Speaker B: You might have, but yeah. Oh, I.
[00:02:28] Speaker A: Who knows?
[00:02:28] Speaker B: I think we talked about it last time.
[00:02:30] Speaker A: Yeah, the Oregon guy played.
[00:02:31] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, yeah, we did talk about it. Yeah.
[00:02:33] Speaker A: Yeah, I saw Redline 7000. It was really good. I'm trying to go back for my birthday, David, on February, but they don't. Haven't announced any showtimes that day. It's blank.
[00:02:41] Speaker B: Boo. Well, I mean, maybe it's. It could be the Johnny Show. You could be the movie the monkey might be playing.
[00:02:47] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:02:49] Speaker B: I had a conversation with somebody about. So there's the Music Box and then the poor man's music Box is the Logan, and then the poor Man's Logan is that theater that's above the abandoned mall over in Lakeview.
[00:03:03] Speaker A: I don't think it's even there anymore.
[00:03:06] Speaker B: It was there as of a month ago. I went by.
[00:03:09] Speaker A: No, it's a good theater.
[00:03:10] Speaker B: That's.
[00:03:10] Speaker A: They show a lot of indie movies. That's actually good theater.
[00:03:12] Speaker B: Yeah, I know. It's great. It's great. But that's just how. That's how you can throw the Date.
[00:03:16] Speaker A: Davis Theater in there, too. They're doing programming and stuff now, too.
[00:03:19] Speaker B: Oh, nice.
[00:03:20] Speaker A: The Davis up in Lincoln Square. I just went there the other day. I watched the Oscar animated short features, all five of them.
[00:03:26] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, I remember. I remember doing that for your birthday one year. And then it was. It was after work, and I was like, I have to go home now. I'm tired.
[00:03:34] Speaker A: Yeah, that was fun. We did it. I went with my friend Raleigh, and it was future guest Raleigh Luna. And it was.
It was good. It wasn't that year we saw. I think they were better. There weren't any goofy ones. I don't know. It was. They were okay. I didn't love. There's one I love. Two I love. Two out of the five I love.
[00:03:54] Speaker B: And two out of five ain't bad.
[00:03:56] Speaker A: Two out of five ain't bad. We got two issues of Spawn we love this week, though. Two out of two I like. I think I loved both of them. Did. I love. Let me look at them. I just read a ton of Spondavid. I just had a Spawn. I just read seven. I read eight issues.
[00:04:11] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:04:11] Speaker A: Two hours.
[00:04:13] Speaker B: You're not even gonna know what you're talking about this time, Johnny.
[00:04:15] Speaker A: No, I do. I know what we're talking about. And I did actually. I did love both these issues in their own way.
[00:04:21] Speaker B: I get that. Yeah.
[00:04:23] Speaker A: Their own special, interesting way. I read two other issues that I love more.
But we're gonna talk about those next.
[00:04:30] Speaker B: Week, as we do.
[00:04:32] Speaker A: Because I got confused when we were reading for this week, David and I read next week's issues, but then I went back and read this week's issues.
[00:04:37] Speaker B: And then for next week's issues, actually accidentally read this week's issues. Is that what's going to happen?
[00:04:44] Speaker A: I'm reading this week's issues, which are long way of saying we are reading spawn 359, the final of Rory McConville's long spawn run. Yes, because we know they're switching it up.
[00:04:57] Speaker B: They're, I guess, long main titles. Spawn run is how we should Catch it.
[00:05:02] Speaker A: Booth and Barbarian did it.
Now McConville and McFarlane are doing it. They're swapping books.
[00:05:11] Speaker B: It's like the Spawnicule.
[00:05:16] Speaker A: McConneville's going to King Spawn. Topfather's going back to Swan.
[00:05:20] Speaker B: Right.
[00:05:20] Speaker A: This is the final McConville spawn.
[00:05:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:24] Speaker A: And as a final issue, it has a lot of his tropes and a lot of his strengths. Maybe some weaknesses as well. We'll talk about it. I don't know if they're his weaknesses. It might be weaknesses of. I feel like editing or release dates. I don't know.
[00:05:42] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know. It's a. It's a Fast and Furious machine, Johnny. Sometimes. Sometimes stuff gets stuck.
[00:05:48] Speaker A: And our second issue this week is Gunslinger 38.
And these are both from December 2024.
[00:05:56] Speaker B: Yes, indeed.
[00:05:58] Speaker A: So not too long ago.
[00:06:01] Speaker B: No, indeed.
[00:06:01] Speaker A: Unless you're listening to this in the future, as we always say. Yeah, I guess you are listening. Everyone's listening to the future.
[00:06:08] Speaker B: I guess that's true right now. I guess that's true in the present. If you're. If you're listening to this in 2030 or later, please email regarding
[email protected].
[00:06:20] Speaker A: You'Ll get an immemorial message back.
[00:06:26] Speaker B: We've taken the death the Dead Zone Express, Johnny. We done Shadow woke David.
[00:06:31] Speaker A: Their government's doge is gonna come for us.
[00:06:34] Speaker B: We're the government inefficiency.
[00:06:35] Speaker A: Yeah. They're gonna cut us out.
They're gonna make us illegal. These guys are getting way too much taxes back.
[00:06:41] Speaker B: Yeah, we're. We're getting. We're getting.
[00:06:43] Speaker A: Wasting our tax dollars on making a Spawn podcast. You guys are cut out.
[00:06:47] Speaker B: We're gonna. We're gonna. We're gonna see that message come up, and it's gonna be like, we saved $10 million from. Regarding spawn Podcasting Industries. Nobody's going to know about Al Simmons's secret missions now, Jeremy.
[00:07:02] Speaker A: Oh, but we're here to break it down.
[00:07:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:07:03] Speaker A: Because if indeed the government does shut us down, and this is our final episode, we're going to break down these two issues of Spawn. God knowing we will, because we. Regarding Spawn, where each week we two issues Spawn's universe. Except when we don't, and this week is no different, as I've said, we've got these two issues. Spawn 359 and Gunslinger 38.
[00:07:21] Speaker B: Hell yeah.
[00:07:22] Speaker A: If I'm going out of order, it's because we're recording at night, and we normally record in the morning, and I've had a few Drinks.
[00:07:29] Speaker B: And you've also just shoehorned two hours worth of spawn into your head, Johnny.
[00:07:35] Speaker A: Two hours of the spawn just jammed. It was great. I listened to metal. I started. I started a Apple like AI playlist based off of Nice Jesus. He Knows Me by Ghost. That was stuck in my head.
[00:07:47] Speaker B: Nice. Specifically the Ghost version.
[00:07:50] Speaker A: Version.
[00:07:50] Speaker B: And not the Genesis version.
[00:07:51] Speaker A: No, the Ghost version.
[00:07:52] Speaker B: Okay, Nice.
Jesus.
[00:07:56] Speaker A: He knows me and he knows what I like.
[00:08:01] Speaker B: We both knew what was going there.
[00:08:03] Speaker A: Again, they played some Avenged Sevenfold, which is really good.
[00:08:05] Speaker B: Oh, nice.
[00:08:06] Speaker A: They played a band I never heard before that I was like, this is excellent. Let me look it up real quick.
[00:08:10] Speaker B: That's literally me every day I'm on Spotify. I'm like, I don't know this. What is this?
[00:08:15] Speaker A: Mad Gallica.
[00:08:17] Speaker B: Gallica. Huh?
[00:08:18] Speaker A: Mad Gallica.
[00:08:20] Speaker B: Don't know that one.
[00:08:22] Speaker A: Add it to the. Add it to the queue. Souls on Fire is the name of the song, but Mad Gallica. G A L I, C A.
It was this awesome. Like, metal, but, like, vocal. It reminded me, like Nightwish, but not spice them in there.
[00:08:41] Speaker B: How do you spell it again?
[00:08:42] Speaker A: G A L L I, C A Strange desire.
[00:08:47] Speaker B: Okay. It keeps trying to take me to Gattic Galaga.
[00:08:52] Speaker A: The song was called Souls on Fire. So add that to your playlist and smoke it.
[00:08:56] Speaker B: Add Galaga.
[00:08:58] Speaker A: It was really good to respond to. So it was event Sevenfold.
[00:09:01] Speaker B: Oh, nice. It's wonderful. Were you paying too much attention to the playlist while you're reading that spawn, Johnny?
[00:09:06] Speaker A: No.
[00:09:07] Speaker B: No. All right, Good, good, good, good, good, good, good.
[00:09:09] Speaker A: I was paying attention to the spawn. Don't worry.
[00:09:12] Speaker B: I. I just sometimes find myself, like, I'll be reading a book and I'll find myself being like, I don't remember what happened for the last five pages. What the hell happened?
[00:09:21] Speaker A: I have no problem going back.
[00:09:23] Speaker B: It's because I got lost in the. In the sauce of the music, Johnny.
[00:09:28] Speaker A: There's a lot to untangle, so we got to get into it so we don't get too lost in the sauce. Because Swan 359 is a tangled web.
[00:09:36] Speaker B: Yes, it is.
[00:09:37] Speaker A: Because this is what I just want to start saying. Well, we start with the covers. Let's start with the covers.
[00:09:40] Speaker B: Let's start with the covers.
[00:09:41] Speaker A: Before we get to the interior, where.
[00:09:43] Speaker B: We always start, Jen.
[00:09:44] Speaker A: Where we always start. And I, a surprise to no one, have the A cover, Johnny. I'm surprised, also surprised to know one.
One of the reasons I would have the A cover is because it is a Bjorn Baron's cover.
[00:10:02] Speaker B: Yeah, I also have the A cover specifically because it's the Bjorn Baron's cover.
It's incredible, Johnny. It's. It's like decaying spawn. And he's sinewy. Sinewy, Sinewy and just like, ropey.
[00:10:23] Speaker A: Yeah, he's.
[00:10:25] Speaker B: He's gross, Johnny.
He's a dead dude.
[00:10:28] Speaker A: Gross. Yeah. And he's got, like. He's like stepping into or onto a dead soldier body.
[00:10:36] Speaker B: Yeah, it's like no man's land from trench warfare. Yeah, it's just. It's just.
[00:10:41] Speaker A: This is a Call of Duty spawn right here. Yeah, get this skin on. Call of duty only. 22.99.
[00:10:47] Speaker B: This is. This is the spawn to. In all. End all wars, Johnny.
[00:10:51] Speaker A: Yeah, he's got some great guns.
[00:10:52] Speaker B: Yeah, chains.
[00:10:54] Speaker A: He's got.
[00:10:56] Speaker B: He's got chains and he's got a.
[00:10:57] Speaker A: What do they call chains of ammo? Like that. What is that?
[00:11:00] Speaker B: A belt? I think it's the belt like a.
Because it's not exactly a bandolier. You don't feed the whole band.
[00:11:08] Speaker A: Like Chewbacca. No, like Chewbacca, I guess. I mean, sure, I can see Chewbacca doing this.
[00:11:16] Speaker B: Frightening. Frightening Chewbacca. This is. This is the zombie of Chewbacca.
[00:11:22] Speaker A: Yeah. That wookie and acolyte was kind of scary, Kalnaka.
[00:11:26] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Black. Black K. Also kind of scary.
[00:11:31] Speaker A: Yeah, well, you can't call him that.
[00:11:33] Speaker B: Well, but that's his name, isn't it?
[00:11:35] Speaker A: Yeah, but in the live action, they just dropped. It's just Kirstan and.
[00:11:39] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:11:41] Speaker A: That's what they called him in comic books. They stopped doing that.
[00:11:45] Speaker B: Damn it, Johnny. Now I have to remember the. The retconned names of all the Star Wars. I'm gonna. I'm gonna remember them. Of course I'm gonna do that.
[00:11:52] Speaker A: Look, it feels really, like, precocious on Disney's part to do that. It's like you can say, like, black or standard. They don't look. I think you're talking about, like, a black person. I think that's what they're afraid of.
[00:12:03] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't know.
[00:12:03] Speaker A: It wasn't a diss. It's just who he was.
[00:12:05] Speaker B: Yeah, that's. That's. He's just a. He's just a big fucking scary Wookiee.
[00:12:10] Speaker A: He's a scary Wookie.
[00:12:12] Speaker B: Yeah. You know who's not a scary wookie?
[00:12:14] Speaker A: Johnny Swan is a scary Wookie on the right side.
[00:12:17] Speaker B: But. But say Zay Carlos isn't a scary Wookiee. And say Carlos is Who did the B cover, John?
[00:12:22] Speaker A: Yeah, and it's got the B. It's the butt cover.
[00:12:25] Speaker B: Yeah. It's the continuing of that series that he made of protagonists standing away from the viewer, looking over their shoulder. Standing. A whole bunch of dead bodies.
[00:12:38] Speaker A: He's got a great joke from Batman Returns in there.
[00:12:42] Speaker B: Yeah. It's a big neon sign that says hello. And the O is sparking out, says hell. Such as hell. Hell here.
[00:12:50] Speaker A: And I love it. It's cool. It's like. It's like cyberpunk. Well, it's not cyberpunk. It's punk. Yeah, Neon punk.
[00:13:00] Speaker B: Neon punk.
[00:13:01] Speaker A: It's vaporwave Spawn.
[00:13:05] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:13:06] Speaker A: It's badass, though. Like, he's over, like, bodies of dead demons and shit. And this is like Neon Alley with his, like, King Swans slash Modern Swan. Get up with his, you know, scarf cape.
[00:13:20] Speaker B: Ooh, Johnny. And you'll notice sword. If you remember when I was asking about that super awesome yielder, a sennaar action pose Spawn from a few episodes ago. And I was like, has he always had those little nubblies all the way up his arms? You'll notice on the Zay Carlos cover, he got those nublis all the way up his arm, Johnny. So I'm wondering.
I think that is a. That might be a depowered wearing the shawl Spawn look thing, because. Yeah, like classic. Classic Spawn is. Is smooth. Smooth. The babies behind.
[00:13:57] Speaker A: Smooth and sinewy. Like on the A cover.
[00:13:59] Speaker B: Yeah, too sinewy. Too sinewy. Oh, I can't say the word. Sinewy Jesus. Sinewy Jesus. Can you imagine, Johnny? I'm Catholic or was Catholic, so I can definitely imagine a sinewy Jesus. Yeah. Friendship with that motherfucker every time you go in.
[00:14:19] Speaker A: Yeah. Mel Gibson's about to film Resurrection of the Christ. Gonna start filming soon.
[00:14:24] Speaker B: Is that the Passion part? Passion two.
[00:14:27] Speaker A: You know it.
[00:14:30] Speaker B: Even more passion, even more passionate.
Are they going to reveal that that spooky face that flashed at the end before the credits, then gave a whole bunch of people seizures was actually Satan?
[00:14:43] Speaker A: Maybe. Martin revealed that we went to school with Mary Magdalene Chosen fans. Dave and I went to college with the actor who plays Mary Magdalen.
[00:14:55] Speaker B: I have a co worker who has. His brother has a movie that was distributed by the same people who distribute the Chosen. And I was like, oh, hey, I know a lady who does a thing with that company. And, like, he gets free swag from them through his brother's movie. So he got a. He got a calendar. And so we spent the whole time, like Waiting for the Mary Magdalene month, so we could just be like, ah, it was great.
[00:15:22] Speaker A: That's hilarious. Chosen audience and Spawn audience is probably a very small overlap.
[00:15:28] Speaker B: I mean, it might be you, Johnny.
[00:15:31] Speaker A: I never watched the shows, and I've seen that show.
[00:15:33] Speaker B: I've heard that it is good, though. Sure, I've heard that It's. I mean, great stories. Bible stories. Stories.
[00:15:39] Speaker A: Come on. Yeah, you love Bible stories. You're a Catholic, man. You're a fucking sucker.
[00:15:44] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, if it's done well, Johnny, I'll read most anything.
[00:15:49] Speaker A: I like the Passion of the Christ. I'll say it. I think it's a decent movie.
[00:15:54] Speaker B: I don't remember it enough, but I. I did watch it every Easter.
I did watch it at a time that I was obsessed with torture porn.
[00:16:04] Speaker A: It's very torture for me.
[00:16:06] Speaker B: That's the bits that I. I went to see it for. I was like, I just want to see this guy get up. Well, that's kind of a. Kind of a dick thing to say, but that's. That was. That was young David, so I can't get away from it. He was who he was.
[00:16:19] Speaker A: Mel Gibson's happy, so we popped the sucker open.
[00:16:23] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:16:24] Speaker A: We got the credits. Script plot by Mel Gibson. What?
[00:16:30] Speaker B: What happened?
[00:16:31] Speaker A: I'm kidding.
[00:16:32] Speaker B: I swear. I swear. This book said something different earlier, Johnny.
[00:16:35] Speaker A: Script plot by Roy Vicanville with additional script by Mel Gibson.
Oh, wait, let me try it again. Script block by Rory McConville with additional script by Todd McFarlane. Art by Brett Booth.
[00:16:50] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:16:50] Speaker A: Inks. This is very interesting, Inks, isn't it?
[00:16:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:56] Speaker A: Because you get a Del Sol corona.
Get Todd McFarlane. Page one, inks. He did page one.
[00:17:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:17:03] Speaker A: And Daniel Henriquez did page 14, which we should figure out which one it is, right?
[00:17:08] Speaker B: Yeah. That must have been. That must have been like a time crunch. This one, right?
[00:17:13] Speaker A: Yeah. This one looks a little different. Yeah. Interesting.
[00:17:17] Speaker B: That's what. That's what 14 got me to.
[00:17:19] Speaker A: So you kind of tell us kind of. Todd McFarlane on page one.
Interesting. I don't know. I think that's interesting.
[00:17:27] Speaker B: It's fun.
[00:17:29] Speaker A: It's fun. Colors by Robert Nugent. Lettering by Tom Wojakowski.
Cover artist. We already covered the covers. Yeah, we already covered them.
[00:17:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:17:40] Speaker A: Creative Director is Todd McFarland, and editor in chief is a Senor Thomas Healey. Senor Chef Thomas Healey.
Chief jefe.
Previously in Spawn. Spawner.
[00:18:01] Speaker B: It's all spelled out right there.
[00:18:04] Speaker A: Previously in Spawn. Spawn and Lyra receive a cryptic message claiming to have a way to Stop Blood. Let me try this again.
Previously in Spawn, Spawn and Lyra receive a cryptic message claiming to have a way to stop Blood.
[00:18:25] Speaker B: I can't remember if that actually did happen. Did it happen?
[00:18:28] Speaker A: It did, but they went to some fat guy's house and he was dead. That was it.
[00:18:31] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Okay. Yeah, that was it. Yeah. Okay.
[00:18:34] Speaker A: That was it. They didn't meet the curse.
[00:18:37] Speaker B: Spoilers for a couple of pages from now, Johnny.
[00:18:40] Speaker A: Yeah, I guess so. We open on a corpse lady coming through.
[00:18:46] Speaker B: It's a. It's a shambling, shambling zombie. Johnny. Who is a walking dead.
[00:18:52] Speaker A: But she looks very familiar. For those classic Spawn fans.
[00:18:57] Speaker B: I do like.
[00:18:58] Speaker A: We know who this is.
[00:18:59] Speaker B: I do like the. The floating. The floating newspaper in the background. It just says Booth.
[00:19:07] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:19:07] Speaker B: It has what I guess could probably be a. A self photograph or a self portrait. That's what I was looking for. And then also lost dog. So sad.
[00:19:17] Speaker A: I think it's a cat.
[00:19:19] Speaker B: Well, there's a cat. And then I guess there's two of them. Because there's the cat. Because that one definitely looks like a cat. But that one's definitely a dog.
[00:19:26] Speaker A: You're right.
[00:19:27] Speaker B: The bottom.
[00:19:28] Speaker A: There's a lot of lost animals.
[00:19:30] Speaker B: Man, that's sad. They probably. They're probably all over here at my house, Johnny.
[00:19:37] Speaker A: I bet so. But it's Nyx. It's the corpse of Nyx, obviously.
[00:19:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:19:42] Speaker A: And she comes up and says, interesting and so predictable. And we see this like phantasmagoria of dead angels or demons.
[00:19:54] Speaker B: Are those not vampires?
[00:19:55] Speaker A: Because dead vampires.
[00:19:57] Speaker B: Yeah, they're just strung up and they ain't got no fangs, Johnny. Look at that. They got a big gaping holes in their mouths where their fangs should be.
[00:20:06] Speaker A: I feel like an idiot that I said angels are demons.
[00:20:08] Speaker B: Well, you know what, Johnny? It's fine. We got there. That's all that matters, right?
[00:20:14] Speaker A: And we cross cut into this someone telling Blood what's going down. It's our friend Lenny Kravitz.
[00:20:21] Speaker B: Yeah, I've forgotten what his actual name.
[00:20:23] Speaker A: I don't think we know his actual name.
[00:20:25] Speaker B: No, it was in like two or three issues ago. Maybe three or four actually. But at one point they actually say what his name is. Because I remember being like, I'm gonna remember that and I don't remember it.
[00:20:37] Speaker A: Oh, no.
[00:20:39] Speaker B: So whatever his name is. But yeah, he's definitely telling Jason Blood kind of about what we've just seen Nick stumble into. Is that the. The vampires, they've been. They've been moiterized and they had their Fangs pulled out.
[00:20:55] Speaker A: Yeah. There's no. Dead zones have been breached.
[00:20:58] Speaker B: Yeah, they think that. They think that maybe. Maybe Jason Wynn is behind it. And blood's like, nah, nah, nah, nah. That's not a Jason Wynn move.
[00:21:07] Speaker A: They're like, we got them on the run. We don't need them to have a new figurehead to rally around.
[00:21:11] Speaker B: Yeah. And then. And then we cut to the curse.
[00:21:15] Speaker A: Johnny, Brand new character.
[00:21:17] Speaker B: Brand new character. We've never seen it before, ever.
[00:21:20] Speaker A: That's not true.
In the early days. In the early unlistable days of the podcast, Dave and I thought the curse was a new character.
[00:21:26] Speaker B: Yeah. Created for Scorched. Yes. And then like a week after that.
[00:21:31] Speaker A: We saw the action figure.
[00:21:33] Speaker B: Johnny found the action figure.
But, yeah, we cut to the scorch and his, like, wild, manic.
[00:21:41] Speaker A: The curse, not the scorch.
[00:21:42] Speaker B: Oh, the scorched. Yeah, the scorch. That's what. That's what you said.
[00:21:46] Speaker A: You said the scorch.
[00:21:47] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, I know. You said the curse, and I said the scorched.
[00:21:51] Speaker A: Oh, my God.
[00:21:54] Speaker B: But, yeah, the curse and all of his wild insanity and blindness, because we.
[00:22:01] Speaker A: Can'T forget he was obsessed with the God and he penciled his own eyes out. Right.
[00:22:06] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. After listening to the ipod recordings of that.
That preacher.
[00:22:13] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:14] Speaker B: Fire and brimstone and all that stuff.
But, yeah, so, I mean, we get a nice little bit of narration, a nice little introduction to the curse, and just in case you haven't come across him before, in case this is your first time.
But. But, yeah, he's just like. He's, like, rummaging around in bins of body parts. Johnny.
[00:22:36] Speaker A: He's like, look, he's always been to deluded extremists of God's teaching, and now he sees an opportunity, the hour of God's need to step in and finally get his place at the Lord's side.
[00:22:46] Speaker B: Yeah, but what is. How does. How does that happen with all these body parts, Johnny? Is he then going to build God next to him? Is that what's happening?
[00:22:55] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:22:56] Speaker B: I don't know.
[00:22:56] Speaker A: But they're all here.
[00:22:57] Speaker B: But they're all here. And Spawn and Lyra and. Well, look at these, Johnny. These are. These are some.
[00:23:03] Speaker A: And the Cyber Force guys, we saw that one time.
[00:23:06] Speaker B: Yeah, these are.
[00:23:06] Speaker A: That's why I feel like there's an issue missing here, Dave, David.
[00:23:09] Speaker B: Because the Cyber Force guys.
[00:23:11] Speaker A: Yeah, because they're just there and they're. They're in that one issue. But, like, they're just here.
[00:23:14] Speaker B: Well, but with all the. I was the techno meshing. Obviously, the curse is putting them together. So he's the one.
[00:23:21] Speaker A: Oh, maybe they.
[00:23:22] Speaker B: Maybe they followed the cybernetics, and we're like, I know.
[00:23:26] Speaker A: Okay?
[00:23:26] Speaker B: I know. The curse is handy.
[00:23:27] Speaker A: Well, you use context clues to figure things out. I don't do that.
[00:23:31] Speaker B: Context is key, Johnny.
[00:23:33] Speaker A: I just really wish I had. I have a bag of Doritos in the other room. I really wish I had them. It'd be awful for the recording.
[00:23:41] Speaker B: What? What? What? Dustin. They got on them. Johnny.
[00:23:43] Speaker A: Spicy nacho.
[00:23:44] Speaker B: Ooh, Spicy nacho. That's a good one.
I can't. I love Doritos, but they make me feel like garbage now, and it's the saddest thing.
[00:23:52] Speaker A: Oh, I'm sorry.
[00:23:53] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh. So please enjoy them for me when you can.
I just.
[00:23:58] Speaker A: That's my secret, Cap. I always feel like garbage.
[00:24:04] Speaker B: So. So. So the curse is like, I've been expecting you, Spawn. And one of his lackeys is. How did the Hell Spawn find us? The curse is like, oh, yeah, I told him. I'm the one who told him. Oh, he's so concerned, this guy. You did what? And so Spawn and the curse have a little bit of a, you know, back and forth, just, you know, to. To clarify exactly what happened. So Spawn's like, so you. You're the one that tipped us off, huh? And the curse. The curse wanted to lure Spawn to him because he needs Spawn to try to fix the dead zone. They're gonna try to open a dead zone, Johnny.
[00:24:40] Speaker A: Yeah, and then Swan totally disses him. Is like, you're nobody. Respawn hadn't even heard of you, and you never dealt with reality. So why are we here?
[00:24:52] Speaker B: Yeah, so the curse is like, you know, my. You know, my boy, God, he would never. He would never let Hell have total control over the dead zone. So obviously, he kept. He kept the. The separation of powers. And one of the estates is to keep the other one from outgrowing its britches, if you know what I mean. And in this case, it's the vampires. So very strategic to keep Hell from taking over everything that God cultivated.
The vampires, but. But delusional. Yeah, but the curse says that, you know, if they open one dead zone, all the rest of them should open. So. Johnny, it was about this time where I was like, isn't this, like, didn't this storyline happen 30 issues ago?
[00:25:42] Speaker A: It was opposite, though.
[00:25:43] Speaker B: It was opposite. But. But there was still a fight for. A fight for dead zones. Somebody was controlling them and keeping them Closed. In that case, it was Al Simmons. And everybody was fighting to get them.
[00:25:55] Speaker A: Open, but now it's. They're stopping them from being sucked into themselves. Yeah, because they're spread everywhere.
[00:26:02] Speaker B: Lots of. Lots of dead. Dead zone interruptus going on.
[00:26:05] Speaker A: Dead zones are like the. Spawn the Guffin.
[00:26:08] Speaker B: Yeah. And so the curse is like, we're going to bring Void to the Almighty through this. And. And Spawn's like, what? Through giving Hell and Heaven their powers back? Nah, you're insane.
[00:26:20] Speaker A: The curse wraps him up in his cape like a Christmas present.
[00:26:23] Speaker B: Yeah. And then. And then while. While the curse is there, you know, taunting, doing the pre. Punching Spawn in the face, taunt. There's an explosion, and it knocks Spawn out of the curse's cape.
It's Lyra, all ablaze in her. Her hybrid magic power. Glory.
[00:26:44] Speaker A: Yeah. Looking pretty badass.
[00:26:46] Speaker B: She says, enough. Tired of listening to this bullshit, Spawn.
Hell, yeah. Get it? Lyra. And then one of the Cyber Force guys comes up behind her and smashes her into the ground. Oh, man.
[00:26:59] Speaker A: Then Spawn just pulls a sword on him.
No, no, no.
[00:27:04] Speaker B: And the curse is like, come on, guys. Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop. God gave us this mission. He said we're on a mission from God. I've actually never seen the Blues Brothers, Johnny.
[00:27:14] Speaker A: What?
[00:27:14] Speaker B: I've never seen the Blues brothers or Blues Brothers 2000. No, no, I haven't.
[00:27:20] Speaker A: I've seen them both multiple times. Both interesting. Yeah.
I was cracking up with Dan Aykroyd because he tweeted about the SNL 50th anniversary. He said he was cracking ahead in honor of. And it took me a second to figure out that means he was opening a bottle of skull vodka.
Have you seen a bottle of his Crystal Skull Vodka?
[00:27:42] Speaker B: Have you seen the. They had a. A forensic. What's your majigger person. Reconstruct the face of the person who had that skull.
It is a. A wildly generic face.
[00:27:58] Speaker A: Interesting.
[00:27:59] Speaker B: But it's kind of funny.
[00:28:00] Speaker A: He's cracking ahead in honor of the.
[00:28:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:28:03] Speaker A: Snl.
[00:28:04] Speaker B: Either that or an egghead.
[00:28:06] Speaker A: I think he meant a head of vodka, because all he does is talk about his vodka.
[00:28:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:28:09] Speaker A: I mean, it's called 9 11.
[00:28:11] Speaker B: It's called branding, Johnny. It's called advertisements.
[00:28:13] Speaker A: There's a great video. He's talking to Larry King about how aliens will never visit us because of 9 11.
[00:28:18] Speaker B: I think I've seen that one. So Spawn. Spawns. Like, Spawn and Lyra just, like, leave. They're like, yeah, whatever. Goodbye.
[00:28:28] Speaker A: Get out of here. And the. The curse is like, when the spirit speaks to you, you'll be back.
[00:28:33] Speaker B: Oh, boy. And then he has a little.
A little back and forth with his. His one lackey. His one lackey who he gave a voice box to. The rest of them are silent. And Curse is like, don't worry. He'll be back. He won't be able to help himself. We cut to Spawn and Lyra riding motorcycles home. And Spawn is just like, thinking as the curse's words haunt Spawn on his journey home. Johnny, he's like, he. Because he's. He's got that. That seed of doubt in his head. And he's like, I was saving the world by. By neutering both heaven and hell and keeping them from doing any more damage, but it seems to not be doing exactly what I wanted it to, and it's in fact doing the opposite. And it's like, but does that mean in order to save the world, I have to let all of this evil be powerful again?
[00:29:25] Speaker A: Yeah. Because what he sees, David, that turns his mind is he forgets that there's all these in between creatures. Like alligator men and, like, lion men. Yeah, like hyena men.
[00:29:35] Speaker B: And this iguanodon here.
[00:29:37] Speaker A: And it's like, shit, I'm giving all these people even footing. Like, I guess these are shape shifters. That would normally be humans, I guess.
[00:29:45] Speaker B: I don't know. I don't know where they come from.
[00:29:47] Speaker A: This is crazy.
[00:29:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:29:49] Speaker A: This is terrifying.
[00:29:50] Speaker B: They just like, eating this. This poor, poor businessman.
[00:29:53] Speaker A: He already ate his buddy. Yeah.
[00:29:55] Speaker B: I mean, it's like. It's like killer croc, only all of them. All the animals, Johnny.
[00:30:02] Speaker A: Things that exist somewhere between the gray areas and. Those creatures don't give a damn about humanity.
[00:30:08] Speaker B: Yeah, they do.
[00:30:08] Speaker A: All these shapeshifters don't give a fuck, man.
Alligator men and these leopards that are in the alleyway. That's just crazy. It's like the island of Dr. Moreau in here.
[00:30:18] Speaker B: Yeah, this is. This is fucking. This is fucking New York City, Johnny.
[00:30:22] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:30:22] Speaker B: Oh, I guess. I guess New York City is no stranger to giant animal beings. This might be a sideways to try to get Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as canonical. Spawn, Johnny.
[00:30:35] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:30:36] Speaker B: Interesting. Is there a Dr. Baxter?
[00:30:39] Speaker A: Maybe.
[00:30:40] Speaker B: But. Yeah. So Spawn and Lyra dispatch these gray men. We'll call them. They rest, they rescue this guy, and he's like, please don't hurt me. So he's. He's almost as scared of Spawn as he was of the. The Beastman.
[00:30:54] Speaker A: Right?
[00:30:55] Speaker B: Gray men.
And then, so. So Spawn and Lyra get back to their. Their Secret base.
[00:31:02] Speaker A: And Spawns, like, are they. Do they need a powerless thing, or do they need a Spawn to protect them with powers?
[00:31:09] Speaker B: Like. Yeah, like, by taking away the power. Spawn thought that he was saving everybody, but he was just. He was opening the door to the bed. Yeah. Spawn and Lyra get back to their base, and the Lyra's like, so, what's the plan, Spawny? And then they turn a corner and a voice says, oh, not to worry, child. No, don't worry, child. Yeah, everything will make sense soon enough. And then. Sad. It's crazy Zombie from the front. The front of the issue. Johnny Zombie.
[00:31:39] Speaker A: Nix.
[00:31:40] Speaker B: Zombie Nix.
[00:31:42] Speaker A: And she's like, before you go, Lyra, because I want to talk to him in private, please. Yeah, I just want to introduce myself. I'm Nyx, the Queen of Hell. How's it going?
[00:31:50] Speaker B: Yeah. So we learn that in the days that it has been on Earth since everybody. Like, every day that has passed on Earth since. Since she sat on the throne has been how. How many? Like, thousands?
[00:32:07] Speaker A: Decades.
[00:32:08] Speaker B: Decades.
[00:32:09] Speaker A: Decades. She says decades.
[00:32:11] Speaker B: She does say decades. But I thought. I thought there was more of a one to one. Like, every day is so many, but it's just months on Earth, decades in Hell. And that she doesn't have very long with this connection to her old mortal body to tell him what she needs to tell him.
[00:32:27] Speaker A: And she's like, look, don't fuck around with the curse and Blood. Leave him the fuck alone.
[00:32:33] Speaker B: She's like, don't let me catch you playing with the. That curse and Blood boys again.
[00:32:38] Speaker A: Leave them alone. They're no good.
[00:32:40] Speaker B: They're rude, crude, and tacky and giant. Then Spawn's like, my. My only job is to protect.
[00:32:47] Speaker A: She's like, yes, I know. When I'm sitting on Hell's throne, I know what's going on. Just don't. Stay away from them.
[00:32:53] Speaker B: Yeah. And then she turns into Dust. Johnny Dust. With a nice little skull on top of it.
[00:32:59] Speaker A: Dusty dust.
[00:33:00] Speaker B: Lyra's like, what was that? Spawn says, that was an omen. Things can't remain the same. And then Spawn's like, well, guess what? We need to go back to the curse.
[00:33:10] Speaker A: Yeah. He's like, yep, let's just go back to the curse. He's like, this omen's like, don't go back to the curse. He's like, let's go back to the curse.
[00:33:16] Speaker B: Curse, yeah.
[00:33:18] Speaker A: She's like, I ain't going. Liar's like, hell no.
[00:33:20] Speaker B: Yeah. And Spawn's like, you know, sometimes. Sometimes there are. There's Sometimes there's no objectively good option, Jonna. You just have to choose the lesser of two evils. Because sometimes you don't always get what you want. And sometimes it's just two bad choices.
[00:33:38] Speaker A: But you find sometimes you get what you need.
[00:33:39] Speaker B: Yeah. And so, so this convinces. This convinces Lyra to go Spider Manning. With him across town.
[00:33:49] Speaker A: They head towards the curse.
[00:33:51] Speaker B: Yeah. And then, and then Jason, we see a contemplative Jason blood.
[00:33:56] Speaker A: Jason blood.
[00:33:56] Speaker B: God damn it. I did it again. We see a contemplative blood just like staring menacely over his, his, his peaked fingers. Then we see again the cyber force men just powering up, you know, in anticipation of Spawn and Lyra's arrival. And then the curse looking a little worse than we last saw him a few pages ago. Johnny. Yeah, he's all, all battered and bloodied. And his, his visor shield has a hole in it and you can see one of his dead eyes poking through.
[00:34:33] Speaker A: It says, when the Lord's light shined upon us all, it's the return of Todd McFarlane next issue. This issue so packed they had to print the power meter on the back cover.
[00:34:43] Speaker B: Very low. Necro. Yeah. And it's on the back page.
[00:34:46] Speaker A: The toy ad, it's just on the back page.
It's so. Such a stuffed issue, they had to put the power meter on the back cover.
[00:34:53] Speaker B: Yeah, that's spawn 359 Jeremy.
[00:34:57] Speaker A: That spawn 350.
Alrighty. Alrighty. Alright, next up, gunslinger 38.
[00:35:24] Speaker B: Absolutely. And you know, Johnny, it's. It like most books has a cover.
[00:35:31] Speaker A: It does.
[00:35:32] Speaker B: Unless you.
[00:35:33] Speaker A: A cover.
[00:35:34] Speaker B: If you bought this book without a cover, then it was, it was marked as unsold to the publisher. And so that's.
[00:35:43] Speaker A: Yeah, that's always that note in there, huh?
[00:35:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:35:46] Speaker A: Does that happen a lot?
[00:35:49] Speaker B: I mean usually the only like it's to keep people from selling a discarded or used book at a full price at like a first run bookstore store. So you can find covers removed or partial covers at used bookstores a lot. But. Okay, but it's a trying to have you not get cheated at a legitimate business gotcha thing. Yeah, it's got these, it's got these covers, Johnny. And they are pretty good covers.
[00:36:16] Speaker A: They are pretty good covers. I've got the Don Agilio cover, the.
[00:36:20] Speaker B: A cover, the Rutska.
If you, if you, for a second, if you can't see the chair, it almost looks like he's trying to do the. If I were a rich man a little bit.
[00:36:34] Speaker A: He's sitting in a chair he's sitting.
[00:36:36] Speaker B: In a chair in front of a burning.
This house. Is he inside the burning?
[00:36:42] Speaker A: I guess, yeah.
[00:36:43] Speaker B: Or is he outside the burning?
[00:36:45] Speaker A: Something's burning.
[00:36:45] Speaker B: Something's burning behind him. And he's just chilling. He's chilling like a villain. He's got his. His hat up on the. On the back of the chair. Yeah, he's kickbacked and relaxing. Yes. I have. I have the B cover, that Vaughn Randall cover. It's just a Javi smoking a cigarette with some bats in the background. Pretty great.
[00:37:06] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:37:07] Speaker B: He's got. He's got more of a cropped top hat there. It's flat instead of rounded like it usually is.
[00:37:14] Speaker A: Yeah, it's fun.
[00:37:15] Speaker B: It's fun, though.
[00:37:16] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:37:17] Speaker B: We gotta open that bad boy, Johnny.
[00:37:20] Speaker A: Crack it open.
[00:37:21] Speaker B: Gotta see what good sweet meat is in there. Sweet meat inside this gunslinger. The sweet meat we find are the credits. Johnny. We got script plot by Todd McFarland. We got art by Carla, by Barry. We got colors by Ivan Nunez. We got lettering by Tom Wierzikowski. We covered the covers. The creative director is Todd McFarlane, and the editor in chief is Thomas Healey.
[00:37:47] Speaker A: The one, the only Thomas Healey.
[00:37:50] Speaker B: Previously a gunslinger. The behemoth known as Monolith rescues Javier from the police. But for what purpose?
[00:38:00] Speaker A: Period?
[00:38:00] Speaker B: I feel like there should be a question mark there.
[00:38:05] Speaker A: Yes, I feel like so, too, but.
[00:38:08] Speaker B: They didn't ask us, so I guess we just have to tell them.
[00:38:11] Speaker A: So when we last left them, Monolith and Javi were chilling in the forest.
[00:38:16] Speaker B: Yeah, Monolith had pulled. Had destroyed the prison transport bus that Javi was on because he was looking for somebody who could. He's like, I'm looking for this guy looking for you. And so now we're figuring out why Monolith took Javi. We start off with basically questions we all have asked. Basically, like four pages of just Javi being dumb again.
[00:38:45] Speaker A: No, he's asking questions. I have. He's like, yo. So wait, I thought we all lost our powers. I didn't. Okay. Are you a hellspawn? Why do you look like that? I don't know. I don't care.
[00:38:54] Speaker B: Why do you look like you? Do you a demon that hell only liked us humans for their experiment?
What are your powers? What can you do? And Monolith is just like. Like, do you have eyes? I'm. I'm big. I'm a big boy. That's my power. Big, strong boy.
[00:39:12] Speaker A: They said you were kind of simple, so. And then he just grows really big.
[00:39:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:39:17] Speaker A: And you Get a. You have to turn the comic.
[00:39:20] Speaker B: Yeah, it's a. It's a nice, big. Nice big monolith, though.
[00:39:24] Speaker A: Huge.
[00:39:25] Speaker B: He's got. He's got weird. He's got weird, like, elephant feet.
[00:39:29] Speaker A: Yeah. Huge.
[00:39:31] Speaker B: Yeah. And then Javi says, don't know why you would need help from a runt like me. If I were your size, I'd reckon I'd just do whatever I want.
[00:39:40] Speaker A: He just grabs me. He's like, God damn it. You talk too much.
[00:39:43] Speaker B: Yeah. So Monolith is squeezing Javi, and he's like, I need answers. Actually, I only need one answer. Where's Koliostro?
[00:39:51] Speaker A: Why him?
[00:39:52] Speaker B: Nice little.
[00:39:53] Speaker A: Come back to the most confusing part of Spawn history.
[00:39:56] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. It's so. So Monolith wants to use Coeliostro as a. A Spawn compass, specifically so he can find Omega spawn. Wow.
[00:40:11] Speaker A: Omega spawn.
[00:40:12] Speaker B: I completely forgot that one real bad. So, basically, he wants. He. He needs.
He needs to find Bulma to build him a. A Spawn compass. That way, they can collect all the spawns and then ask Omega Spawn for one wish.
[00:40:29] Speaker A: Who's Bulma?
[00:40:30] Speaker B: Frog Bulma. That's a Dragon Ball joke.
[00:40:34] Speaker A: Okay. Sorry. I'm sorry, David.
[00:40:37] Speaker B: How. How dare you, Johnny. Your nephews would be so disappointed.
[00:40:41] Speaker A: I thought I was Dragon Ball.
[00:40:43] Speaker B: So. So Monolith is talking about, you know, the last time he saw his old boss. Omega Spawn tried to drown him. The next thing. Next thing he knows is he's fighting all these guys. Yeah. Look at that. He's got. He's got overkill there. Then there's some medieval. There's a capeless spawn that looks. Johnny. Oh, he's naked. He's naked. It's like seeing your dog without his collar on. What the.
[00:41:09] Speaker A: We covered those issues.
[00:41:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
Then we see Coleostra down in the pit.
We get plague Spawn crawling out of the pit. Yeah. And then. And then we see Omega getting swallowed up by the earth. Like he did, like, falling. Falling through the void.
[00:41:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:41:30] Speaker B: And Javi starts to explain that. Oh, hey. Yeah. Coleostra wasn't really a prisoner there so much as he wanted to get captured.
[00:41:37] Speaker A: Because he grabbed Spawn powers.
[00:41:39] Speaker B: He. There were. There was some good. Good rifts and the. The overlaps between our. Our realms. And he was able to suck out some good necroplasmic juice and become sin. Yeah.
[00:41:51] Speaker A: And then Javi's like, yeah. And he disappeared into hell, chasing the throne. So I don't know where the fuck he is anymore either.
[00:41:56] Speaker B: Yeah. And Monolith is like. Who would know where he is? Javi's like, maybe spot. I don't know.
[00:42:04] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:42:06] Speaker B: And then Monolith is like, why were you on that prison bus? And Javier was like, there are more. More people that hate me than just, you know, angels and demons.
[00:42:17] Speaker A: He's like, we're spawn. He's like, I don't know. I'm in prison, man. I don't know.
[00:42:21] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
Like, well, you've been wasting my time.
[00:42:26] Speaker A: Jumps him back. He does the Hulk jump and jumps him back. Exactly. To the fucking.
[00:42:32] Speaker B: To the wrecked prison bus.
[00:42:33] Speaker A: To the wrecked prison bus.
What a dick move.
[00:42:38] Speaker B: So they've. They've got the canine units out there, scan of the wreckage, trying to find the lost prisoner that is Javi. And then. And then I do like. I do like the little. The little dust clouds that Javi leaves as he runs.
Yeah.
[00:42:55] Speaker A: He's gonna slide down the hill to escape.
[00:42:57] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:42:58] Speaker A: Gets in some waters running.
[00:43:00] Speaker B: He does a little run through a stream. He runs by this really cool fucking frog.
[00:43:04] Speaker A: Then a bunch of procons, Ignathus, attack him.
[00:43:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:43:08] Speaker A: Not really.
[00:43:10] Speaker B: Those little guys, they rip through this. They're like. They're like land piranha.
[00:43:13] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:43:14] Speaker B: And then he does a. He does a fake out by taking his. His orange jump suit on. And that's what the dogs attack.
And then while Javi's hiding in the grass going, my scarecrow worked. He gets snuck up on by a dude with a shotgun.
[00:43:31] Speaker A: Don't go into the long grass.
[00:43:34] Speaker B: That wasn't a good movie.
[00:43:35] Speaker A: What? Lost World is a good movie. Oh, oh, oh.
[00:43:38] Speaker B: Not. Not. I was thinking of that Stephen King movie that was on Netflix, like, four or five years ago. That was about a cornfield that killed people.
[00:43:46] Speaker A: No, I was thinking of Jurassic World, the Lost Park. The Lost World.
[00:43:50] Speaker B: Jurassic Park, I would doubt.
[00:43:52] Speaker A: Don't go to long grass.
And the raptors get them.
[00:43:56] Speaker B: Yeah, so. So Javi's there, and the cops have him at gunpoint. And then the dogs are like, oh, hey. Oh, wait, hey, actually, we like this guy. And then Javi starts just, like, fucking glowing.
[00:44:09] Speaker A: Yeah. What the fuck?
[00:44:10] Speaker B: He's got beams of light. He's a light that sears with them, each with pain. Johnny. It's growing more and more intense. Then suddenly it's gone, and Javi is once again the gunslinger. Gunslinger? With his tall hat and his spiky gauntlets and his big ass knives. Yeah.
[00:44:31] Speaker A: And they just fire on him. And he gets blown away by a shotgun. Yeah, but I don't think that's gonna kill him. No, not anymore.
[00:44:40] Speaker B: And then Johnny, a sight, a sight for sore hell spawns. This necroplasm meter at the end of this issue of the guns, he's got a 984. It's got. It's got a not as low as it used to be number, but still not great. But, Javi, that's pretty good.
That's. That's the end of that.
[00:45:03] Speaker A: It's an episode, it's an issue, it's an ended. It's the ending.
[00:45:06] Speaker B: Yeah. Then we get a spawning grounds here. It's a little. It's a picture of Todd and a fan from New York Comic Con 2024.
[00:45:18] Speaker A: Man's name is Vander. And he said his father Hans sends the letter.
[00:45:23] Speaker B: And Vander is a big, big fan. Big fan of the Todd father. I was very excited to meet him. The only. Only problem with this picture is there's. There's a lot of shade. There's a lot of shade on the Todd father there.
Yeah, Whoever. Whoever took that picture needed to have been like, to the. To your right a little. To your right a little.
[00:45:44] Speaker A: Then you got him with the stars of Venom.
[00:45:46] Speaker B: Yeah, look at him. Look at him go.
[00:45:49] Speaker A: And then, like, Jonathan Galapian. Jonathan Healy.
[00:45:52] Speaker B: Jonathan Healy.
[00:45:54] Speaker A: Thomas Healy.
[00:45:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:45:56] Speaker A: I think that's Thomas Healey, right?
[00:45:58] Speaker B: That is Thomas Healy. Yeah.
[00:45:59] Speaker A: Yeah, the Todd father and some other folks.
[00:46:05] Speaker B: Yeah. So, yeah, pretty nice. Looks like Todd father had a fun time meeting a whole bunch of different people.
[00:46:11] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what it looks like.
[00:46:13] Speaker B: Do you need more spawns universe, Johnny?
[00:46:15] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:46:15] Speaker B: Oh, well, they don't miss these ongoing titles, dude.
[00:46:19] Speaker A: Yeah, they got the ad for the core four.
[00:46:23] Speaker B: Oh, man, that scorched cover down there, that Bjorn Baron scorched cover is brutal. The ding dang freak.
[00:46:31] Speaker A: Some good issues coming up there. It was all good issues.
[00:46:34] Speaker B: We got the image classic set toy out on the back is the UFC fighters.
[00:46:41] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:46:42] Speaker B: Yeah. And I'm pretty sure that dude just said a whole bunch of misogynistic things. So people like pubs in Ireland that used to have.
Sell his beer and have his posters on the wall or, like, painting.
[00:46:54] Speaker A: It's not a beer. It's a whiskey Dave. It's called Proper 12.
[00:46:57] Speaker B: Well, no, no. Like, he. They were painting over taps. I think he also had a.
[00:47:02] Speaker A: He has a beer.
[00:47:03] Speaker B: I think he also has a beer. I mean, unless. I mean, they could have whiskey on tap. That's just. Sounds expensive. If somebody accidentally leans against that handle.
[00:47:15] Speaker A: Conor McGregor, a piece of. Who would have known?
[00:47:17] Speaker B: Oh, man. You know what, Johnny? I don't know. I Don't know. Who could have guessed I guessed.
[00:47:23] Speaker A: That's it. That's Gunslinger 38.
[00:47:26] Speaker B: Hell, yeah, it is, Johnny. Well, Johnny, it's beddy by time over here at the Williams house.
[00:47:34] Speaker A: Yes, it's getting late.
[00:47:35] Speaker B: It's getting late. And all the doggies are asleep except for the one who's. You can probably hear because he's whining because he just had all his teeth removed today. His name is Dr. Teeth Johnny. And now he has none. Poor guy. Poor guy. Well, that's a. That's a. That's a long and unnecessary way of saying, Johnny. These puppies, I'd rate these puppies very well, but these puppies, these issues, we gotta rate them. So it's time to rate the puppies.
[00:47:59] Speaker A: It's time to rate the puppies.
So first up Today, we had spawn 3. 59.
And it was a wild time.
[00:48:14] Speaker B: Yeah, it was. It was a little bit of this, a little bit of that, a little bit of dangling threads, a lot going on, a little bit of some insanity.
[00:48:26] Speaker A: Yeah, I like the. I like the introduction of, like, corpse. Nick's coming in and being like, yo, yo, yo, what's up? Yeah, I like seeing the curse again.
[00:48:34] Speaker B: Yeah, he's. He's a fun, wacky guy.
[00:48:37] Speaker A: He is just seeing Spawn wrestle with, like, what he should do.
[00:48:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:48:42] Speaker A: I was obviously building the culmination was coming 360.
[00:48:45] Speaker B: Yeah, definitely.
[00:48:47] Speaker A: But I don't know. I like the issue. I thought the art was great. It was fun. It was a little jarring coming from what happened in the previous issue. Just as you just kind of wonder how they got there. But I guess you just infer they're invited there by the. By the curse.
[00:49:00] Speaker B: I remember the curse. The curse sends you an invitation. I mean, you can't do anything but accept it, right?
[00:49:07] Speaker A: You show up, baby. You show up for the curse.
[00:49:09] Speaker B: Yeah, he'll curse you.
[00:49:11] Speaker A: I don't know. Like, yeah, I like. I like the Nyx stuff. Obviously building towards a big climax here. Art's great. I'm gonna give it three curses. Deadeye sticking out of his helmet.
[00:49:23] Speaker B: Hell yeah. It's.
It's fucking disturbing. Aye, Johnny.
[00:49:28] Speaker A: Three out of five. I mean, it's a. It's a fine and shoe Spawn. Not my favorite. It's not the worst. I don't know what else to say about it.
[00:49:35] Speaker B: I. I really liked Lyra being all fire hands. That was fun.
[00:49:39] Speaker A: That was cool.
[00:49:40] Speaker B: That was fun. The art. Brett Booth always does a good job, Johnny. It's. It's hard to say anything Bad about Brett Booth's art. It's. It's wonderful. The. It's sad to see Rory McConville leaving main title, but like I said, he is leaving a lot of dangling threads, a lot of jumping on points. A lot of what that. Yeah, that could, you know, become fodder for future stories. I'm really excited about these fucking gray men beast hybrids. That's real fucking fun. Yeah, it's pretty wacky, but, yeah, it's fun. It's a good book. I'm gonna give it three and a half Lost dog posters, Johnny. I think I have to give it that.
[00:50:23] Speaker A: You have to give it that little Brett Booth detail.
Well, then we went on to the detail of Carlo barbarian, the Todd father with gunslinger number 38. And I thought this issue was pretty fun. I love that he gets his powers back at the end.
[00:50:40] Speaker B: I love he's the. The first of them to get him back. I think it's.
[00:50:43] Speaker A: I think it's nice he goes back in the old can and messes around with that, even though it's still confusing.
[00:50:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:50:49] Speaker A: And then I think it's great that the model just drops him off back where he was at the fucking prison bus.
[00:50:55] Speaker B: What a jerk.
[00:50:56] Speaker A: What a jerk.
But I'm gonna give it three and a half. Jumping monoliths.
[00:51:03] Speaker B: Nice. Those are some big jumps, Johnny.
[00:51:05] Speaker A: Big jumps.
[00:51:06] Speaker B: Big, big jumps. I. I agree. It's. I mean, trying to think of it, like, in continuity, where it's supposed to land. It's. It's so hard because, like, they were on the Scorch together, weren't they? For like.
[00:51:21] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:51:23] Speaker B: So. But this is making it seem like they've never met each other, but I was like, wait, weren't they on a team together? Or does that happen after this? But no, that happened. So, yeah, it was fun enough, nonetheless. I do like seeing Monolith. He's a funny guy. Yeah. Like an unintentionally funny guy. But no, it was fun. It's a good little bit. I like that Javi's the first one to get his powers back. And it's a fun way to start. Yeah, you know, it's hobby. It's fun. I had a good time. I'm gonna give it three and a half. Little yellow frogs in the river.
[00:51:58] Speaker A: In the river. There it is.
[00:52:01] Speaker B: There they are. That's a couple of. A couple of ratings. Little puppies rated. Well, Johnny, those books. Those books were pretty good. Those books were pretty good. You know what? You know what else is pretty good?
[00:52:13] Speaker A: Our friends on Instagram Yeah.
[00:52:15] Speaker B: The Spawn community that we are a part of, and we like to help make it bigger and more welcoming and, you know, just more of what it is.
We do that by. By shouting out a member of the Spawn online community. You should probably follow him. You should probably follow them. And who do we. Who do we got this week, Johnny?
[00:52:36] Speaker A: We've got Dork Diggler.
[00:52:38] Speaker B: That's Dork underscore. Diggler underscore.
[00:52:41] Speaker A: Yes, this is Art page.
[00:52:43] Speaker B: Yes, this is Stephen Gleason.
And he. He done. He done been drawing a ton of Fleabi X, Johnny. Like a ton of Fleabi X. Yeah.
[00:52:53] Speaker A: That's pretty awesome.
[00:52:54] Speaker B: Yeah, there's this one where he did a fake. Like, he. He did a cover contest type thing. He entered a thing where he did his version of a Spawn cover, and somebody reached out to him and offered to make a 3D model out of it. And so he's got the COVID submission that he made and a 3D model of that very cover right next to each other. Oh, it's so cool, Gianni.
[00:53:24] Speaker A: That's pretty awesome.
[00:53:25] Speaker B: It's real fun.
[00:53:26] Speaker A: You're badass.
[00:53:27] Speaker B: Yeah, Dork Diggler. Get on it.
[00:53:30] Speaker A: Check it out. While you're checking him out online, make sure to check us out. We are regarding Spawn Pod on Instagram.
And we are regarding SpawnPod gmail.com.
[00:53:40] Speaker B: Yes, ma'am.
[00:53:41] Speaker A: Yes and ma'am.
[00:53:42] Speaker B: Yes, ma'am.
[00:53:43] Speaker A: Yes, ma'am.
[00:53:46] Speaker B: And what? What? What? Yes and ma'ams. Should people say at us on the. The old, if you want to send.
[00:53:54] Speaker A: Us a Gmail this week, if you should send us a Gmail, send us a gmail. It's weartening spawnpod gmail.com and what we're going to ask is, how are you feeling about the state of Spawn? What is your state of the Spawn address?
[00:54:09] Speaker B: The state of the Spawn going into.
[00:54:10] Speaker A: This road to hell, this new turning point. What do you feel about Spawn?
[00:54:16] Speaker B: I'd say the state of the Spawn is good, Johnny. The state of the Spawn is a lot, but the state of the Spawn is good.
[00:54:23] Speaker A: It is good. It is good. I agree. We're in a good spot. We're going to this new big event. See what happens. Everyone's gonna get their powers back. Can't wait.
[00:54:31] Speaker B: It's very exciting.
[00:54:32] Speaker A: It's very exciting.
[00:54:33] Speaker B: Spawn is good, Johnny. I don't know if you knew this.
[00:54:36] Speaker A: Spawn is God and Spawn is good.
[00:54:38] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. And speaking of good, Johnny, also over there on the Internet is Lonnie Bones. He does our music, and you should listen to the other things he makes. That's L O N N Y B O N E S Lonnie Bone la.
Yes, I am.
[00:54:57] Speaker A: Yes I am.
[00:55:00] Speaker B: Well, Johnny, would you like to maybe do this again?
[00:55:04] Speaker A: I would. I'm really excited about next week, David. Really so fucking excited. Why? Because I read those issues before I read these issues and I thought that's what we were covering. Well, these issues were fine. Issues with Swan.
Next week's issues are fucking stellar.
[00:55:20] Speaker B: Are you gonna go ahead and rate those puppies now or can you wait?
[00:55:23] Speaker A: I can wait. What are we reading? What are we reading?
[00:55:25] Speaker B: Dude, I don't know, Johnny. You're the one that's excited about it. What are we?
[00:55:28] Speaker A: Well, I don't fucking remember the exact goddamn numbers.
[00:55:32] Speaker B: Well, Johnny, it's gonna be scorched 36 and kingspawn 40.
[00:55:38] Speaker A: Oh yeah, it's the, it's the assault on the Vatican and Scorch. And it is the first of an amazing two parter. A fantastic two parter of King Spawn by Rory McConville. It's. It's quite special.
[00:55:53] Speaker B: It's. It's amazing. Rory McConville and Yildiray are a great team.
[00:55:58] Speaker A: Oh my God, it's so good. I just read both of them and like man, 40 and 41 together, it's just like, wow, man.
[00:56:05] Speaker B: This is Johnny getting his verve for King Spawn back. It's what got us into it. And it's. It's back, baby.
[00:56:14] Speaker A: It's back, baby. King Swan's back.
[00:56:16] Speaker B: Very excited.
[00:56:17] Speaker A: It's different, but we like it. I can't wait to cover them.
[00:56:20] Speaker B: Can't wait to cover them with you either, Johnny. It's gonna be. It's gonna be real, real good fun. Really big mate.
[00:56:26] Speaker A: Epic mate.
[00:56:28] Speaker B: Well, don't forget to. Don't forget to. To like us. To subscribe to us. To tell your friends and family and co workers and that kid down the street who, who you. You feed, you feed bits of culture to because you know, his parents, you know, disapprove of fucking everything. And so you want this kid to live a little bit before he's forced to do it by his own when he moves out of his parents house and you don't want him to be, be unprepared for that.
Needlessly gendered because maybe I'm thinking of somebody specifically me, Johnny. I'm thinking of me. Yes. Although I would not have been able to handle little bits of leaked culture. I totally would not have been able to shut up about it. And I would have gotten Caught immediately. And when asked where I got it, I would straight up just say exactly where I got it, because I wouldn't think.
Oh, boy. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have liked me as a child either. Just Johnny, you know.
[00:57:31] Speaker A: Oh, you would have. Come on.
[00:57:32] Speaker B: I would have been like. Like, come on. This guy. This guy.
Well, Johnny, I like you. So it doesn't matter what David thinks of young childhood David, he's having fun with a friend that he likes a lot.
[00:57:47] Speaker A: That's all you need.
[00:57:48] Speaker B: Real good. Yeah. That's all you need. You just need.
[00:57:50] Speaker A: Sorry to make you have an existential crisis.
[00:57:53] Speaker B: You know, it's a small one at least. Least it's a small crisis. It's a stental crisis. There's no extra about it. Not yet.
[00:58:02] Speaker A: Just central.
[00:58:06] Speaker B: Good to know this. This crises. This crisis isn't brought to me by David Cronenberg, so.
[00:58:13] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:58:16] Speaker B: Oh, man. Existence is so fun.
[00:58:19] Speaker A: It is. It's a good movie.
[00:58:20] Speaker B: It's so gooey. They need to bring gooeyness back to movies, Johnny. I love a gooey movie. It's part of why I love the substance so much. Oh, Jesus.
[00:58:29] Speaker A: I was like the first gooey movie, Pops, my mind was Godzilla or Kong X. Godzilla. The New Empire.
[00:58:36] Speaker B: I was on my couch this weekend and that came up and I was like, should I watch this?
[00:58:41] Speaker A: Yeah, it's really gooey, and I don't.
[00:58:43] Speaker B: Remember what I watched instead.
[00:58:44] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:58:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:58:46] Speaker A: You would remember that.
[00:58:48] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm sure would have.
[00:58:49] Speaker A: Next time we're in your catch. You should watch that.
[00:58:51] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, I know, I know, I know.
I watched Pretty in Pink. That's what I watched. Okay, so probably a worst choice, actually, first time watching it. It was a good movie.
[00:59:05] Speaker A: This is a good movie.
[00:59:05] Speaker B: It was a good movie. Not. Not too bad. Not too bad. Those. Those. Those. Those Brat Pack movies were popular.
[00:59:12] Speaker A: John Hughes movies endure. They do.
[00:59:14] Speaker B: They do indeed. John Hughes was a good writer. Very good. All right. Well, I mean, if he wrote. If he wrote the script for Regarding Sponge on it, you know what he would put right at this point?
[00:59:26] Speaker A: I think I do.
[00:59:27] Speaker B: Well, one of us would punch the air and then it would freeze, and then we'd fade out from that still photograph to the sounds of May the scorched be with you.
[00:59:38] Speaker A: And also with you, David.
[00:59:40] Speaker B: Hell, yeah.
[00:59:41] Speaker A: Hell, yeah.
Yeah, just play that song.
Yeah, just play the song.
Oh, boy.
I'll hit the weed pen before we start because it's a nighttime episode.
[01:00:42] Speaker B: Regarding Spawn Nights After Dark.
