Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: This wasn't a lab. Hell, they weren't even building weapons here. It was a doorway. A God damn portal to hell.
Good evening and welcome to the Mal Bulge. This is regarding Spawn, the world's best Spawn podcast.
I'm your co host, John Fisher.
[00:00:47] Speaker B: And I am your co host, David Williams. And that was a. I kind of. I caught a little whisper of a spooky in there, Johnny.
[00:00:54] Speaker A: Spooky?
[00:00:55] Speaker B: Yeah, in your. In your little introduction that you just did there when you introduced yourself, you.
You did a little bit of an ooh in the middle of one of your O filled words.
What did I. Yeah. Spooky Season. It's coming in, Johnny. Oh, it's coming up.
[00:01:12] Speaker A: Forgot your fucking Disney adult. You like Spooky Season?
[00:01:16] Speaker B: I love Spooky season.
[00:01:17] Speaker A: I'm kidding. I do too. I want to watch Sleepy Hollow. There's a new comic book coming out. Return to Sleepy Hollow.
[00:01:24] Speaker B: Hell yeah. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. Is it written by Tim Burton?
[00:01:27] Speaker A: No.
[00:01:28] Speaker B: No.
[00:01:28] Speaker A: He also did not write Sleepy Hollow.
[00:01:30] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Is it written by.
[00:01:32] Speaker A: Written by Kevin Yeager, who wrote. No, no, it was written by Andrew Kevin Walker, who wrote Seven.
[00:01:38] Speaker B: Nice.
Is that who's writing the comic?
[00:01:41] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:01:44] Speaker B: I don't know. Well, somebody will figure it out. We'll figure it out eventually. That was actually on Pluto TV the other day.
[00:01:49] Speaker A: Really?
[00:01:50] Speaker B: Yeah. I almost took a picture of the screen and sent it to you and then was like, nah, that's weird.
[00:01:55] Speaker A: That's not weird. Yeah, I saw an article that was number one streaming movie on Pluto TV like last week or a couple weeks ago. Like, because some people are crazy and like actually browse and pick stuff from Pluto as opposed to going to the cool channels.
[00:02:06] Speaker B: Yeah, that's very weird. I don't know. Like, why would you go to Pluto to see something specific? You show up and try to choose the least disappointing option and that's usually just the way to go.
[00:02:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
And if the editing's disappointing, you can always watch Bar Rescue.
[00:02:24] Speaker B: Yeah, that's true. Or the Joy of Painting.
Yes, that's always. That's always a good.
[00:02:30] Speaker A: Almost always you can find an Indiana Jones film.
[00:02:33] Speaker B: Almost always. Yeah. Yeah.
There's. There's the All Monster Trunks all the Time channel. Just Monster Jam. That's fun.
[00:02:42] Speaker A: There used to be one that was just trains. It was like. It was like, I think they still exist. It was just like a front row camera. It's like a. If there's a camera on the front.
[00:02:50] Speaker B: Of a train just watching. Oh, that's awesome. That's so cool. I like getting on a crowded bus and being, like, at the very front next to the little pay thing. So that way you get to see out the front window as the bus is going down the street. That's always so cool. Wow.
[00:03:05] Speaker A: Don't ever lose your boyish optimism.
I agree. That is cool. I like. I like public transportation.
[00:03:11] Speaker B: I got to do that once when the bus was going, like, 45 miles an hour down Lakeshore Drive. That was. That was. That was intense. It was great, I bet. Because the road is just, like, right. It's just, like, right there. Like, just a little bit of glass between you and it.
[00:03:24] Speaker A: Now I'm scared to get on the bus.
[00:03:26] Speaker B: Don't be scared to get on the bus. It's awesome. There's. There's. There's still only that much glass between you and the road when you're in a car.
[00:03:33] Speaker A: Yeah, I guess that's true.
[00:03:34] Speaker B: You ever think about that? You ever think about how close your butt is to the asphalt below you that's going by at 70 miles an hour on the turnpike?
[00:03:41] Speaker A: Not really. Even now? I am.
[00:03:43] Speaker B: Yeah, you're going to be thinking about it now every time you go there.
[00:03:47] Speaker A: Oh, my God.
[00:03:48] Speaker B: Yeah, you're just. You're just separated from the entire world by a little crinkle box. Little crinkle up. Designed to crinkle up. It's weird. Living is.
[00:03:57] Speaker A: David.
[00:03:58] Speaker B: Thanks.
[00:03:58] Speaker A: Yeah, I know. I never want to drive a fucking car again. Thanks a lot. Move back to Oklahoma and I got to drive everywhere.
[00:04:05] Speaker B: That was not my intention.
[00:04:06] Speaker A: I'm terrified now.
[00:04:09] Speaker B: Well, you're just going to have to stay home and record podcasts then. I guess that's all you're going to be able to do.
[00:04:13] Speaker A: I guess I'll have to stay home and read the 50,000 issues of Spawn. That's in my unread stack over here. Oh, my God. How does it keep getting bigger?
It's so huge.
[00:04:22] Speaker B: Should you do your final pickup of holdbacks?
[00:04:26] Speaker A: No, that'll be tomorrow. Or Wednesday. Whatever. Three days from now. Whatever. Tomorrow is Wednesday?
[00:04:33] Speaker B: Yeah. The day after the day after the day after tomorrow.
[00:04:36] Speaker A: Day after tomorrow. The movie?
[00:04:37] Speaker B: Yeah. With Jake Gyllenhaal.
[00:04:40] Speaker A: Mm.
[00:04:40] Speaker B: Nice. I never saw it. Was it good?
[00:04:42] Speaker A: It was okay.
[00:04:43] Speaker B: Better than 2012 is the.
The idea I get.
[00:04:46] Speaker A: Okay, I was better than 2012. Yeah, I saw 20. 2012 was the first 40x movie I ever saw. No, no, no, not 2012. Moonfall. Another Roland Emmerich movie. But yes, Moonfall, where the moon fell.
[00:04:58] Speaker B: I like it when the the thing in the title happens in the movie. It's very exciting.
[00:05:02] Speaker A: 2012. I never saw 2012.
[00:05:04] Speaker B: Neither did I.
[00:05:05] Speaker A: He never. He never found a thing as good as the aliens, man. He's like, independence Day. Amazing. Then it's like, okay, what if it was Godzilla? And, like, not as good. What if it was ice? Not as good.
[00:05:17] Speaker B: What if it was the end of the world?
[00:05:19] Speaker A: Not as good. What if it was a year? Not as good.
What if it was the moon? Not as good.
[00:05:25] Speaker B: Well, everybody. Everybody has their peak, you know?
[00:05:28] Speaker A: That's true.
[00:05:29] Speaker B: Aliens.
[00:05:30] Speaker A: I'm on the downhill slope, baby. I've already hit it.
[00:05:32] Speaker B: Hey, that's sad to think.
No, and no. It's. It's sad to think that those are the peaks that we'll have and we'll always look back on them as the high point.
[00:05:42] Speaker A: That's okay. I like a little bit.
[00:05:44] Speaker B: That's fine.
[00:05:45] Speaker A: I think this podcast can only go up.
[00:05:48] Speaker B: I mean, there is nowhere else to go, but. But up. Johnny. Yes.
[00:05:51] Speaker A: Oh, my God.
We had a panel. C2E2, sir.
[00:05:57] Speaker B: That was fun as hell.
[00:05:58] Speaker A: I will not let you chalk on this podcast. About this podcast.
[00:06:03] Speaker B: What kind of podcast is this then, Johnny?
[00:06:05] Speaker A: This is regarding Spawn, where each week we bring you two issues from Spawn's universe. Except when we do not. Yes, today we do.
[00:06:13] Speaker B: Yes, we do.
[00:06:14] Speaker A: This is the first day we do bring you two issues from Spawn's universe. From Spawn's universe.
[00:06:25] Speaker B: Nice. This is the first two issue episode we've had in a little bit. We had a spate of single issues for a while.
[00:06:32] Speaker A: Yes, yes. But we have two issues and we have two series we love dearly.
[00:06:39] Speaker B: Two. Two very good books this week.
[00:06:41] Speaker A: Yeah, they were fun.
[00:06:42] Speaker B: Yeah, I like them.
[00:06:44] Speaker A: Then this week we are covering Scorch number 42 all the way back from June 2025, and King spawn 46 all the way back from June 2025.
[00:06:57] Speaker B: Hell, yeah. Both very good things.
[00:07:01] Speaker A: And it's fun to get back to these two. We love. It just sucks because, like, there's so much Spawn. Now you come back these. It's like, where am I? What just happened?
[00:07:10] Speaker B: Yeah, that's true. That's true. It's. It's getting harder and harder to hold it all in the brain.
[00:07:15] Speaker A: But then I. I usually go back and, like, peek through the last issue.
[00:07:19] Speaker B: I started both of these books and I was like, wait, what happened? For what happened? Oh, okay. That's what happened. Right? I guess. That's so. Just being older.
[00:07:29] Speaker A: That's how it's being older. It's the nature of Spawn's universe. It's always growing. It's hard to keep up.
[00:07:34] Speaker B: Yeah, it's entropy, Johnny. I just.
[00:07:36] Speaker A: But it's good. I love it. I love it when I get to come back and read these great issues.
[00:07:40] Speaker B: Yeah, they're excellent. I'm not. I'm not complaining. Don't take this as complaining. Please. Nobody, Nobody think we're complaining. We're only complaining that we're not spry enough to read 14 issues of comic in one sitting.
[00:07:52] Speaker A: Well, I'm about to be retired permanently from my job, so I'm. I'm gonna sit around and respawn all day.
[00:07:59] Speaker B: Nice.
It's good work if you can get it.
[00:08:01] Speaker A: I'm gonna read all the Spawns. So you hold it over your head.
[00:08:06] Speaker B: That's fine. That's.
[00:08:07] Speaker A: I'll call myself the Arbiter.
[00:08:12] Speaker B: It'll instead be. We cover issues that you've read that I haven't. And I guess based on a few questions that I've asked you, what happens in the issue?
Yes.
That sounds fun as hell.
[00:08:25] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:08:27] Speaker B: But you know what else? Yes.
[00:08:29] Speaker A: I'm the arbiter and I know best you ever heard they ever made you listen to that song.
[00:08:33] Speaker B: I have not.
[00:08:34] Speaker A: It's another song from Chess, the musical that rocks just as hard as One Night in Bangkok.
[00:08:39] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:08:40] Speaker A: Called the Arbiter.
[00:08:41] Speaker B: Okay. I'll have to look into it.
[00:08:43] Speaker A: I'll send it to you.
[00:08:43] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:08:45] Speaker A: Because I'm the arbiter and I know best.
[00:08:47] Speaker B: That is true. That is true. We're have to start referring to you as the arbiter and me as the co host.
[00:08:52] Speaker A: The best. The best line in the song is because he's the chess arbiter. He's like the ref.
He goes from square one, I'll be watching all 64.
Because there's 64 squares on a chessboard. So he goes from square one, he'll be watching all 64.
[00:09:13] Speaker B: Okay, nice. All Nintendo 64.
[00:09:17] Speaker A: Another 64 squares on a chessboard.
[00:09:21] Speaker B: I don't get it.
[00:09:22] Speaker A: From square one, he'll be watching all 64.
[00:09:26] Speaker B: Okay, so. So he lives permanently on square one.
[00:09:30] Speaker A: Oh, my God. He lives in pier one day. He lives in the pier one. Next to the. Next to the bath bombs.
[00:09:36] Speaker B: He's got. He's got. He's got tastefully plain but overly priced ceramics.
[00:09:44] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:09:44] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:09:45] Speaker A: A little wooden balls that just exist.
[00:09:48] Speaker B: They just exist.
[00:09:49] Speaker A: And they smell like potpourri.
[00:09:50] Speaker B: And baskets for the big wooden balls to go into. Mm. Gotta get those baskets. Johnny.
[00:09:55] Speaker A: You gotta go to that Pier 1.
[00:09:56] Speaker B: Oh, man, I like the way Pier 1 smells.
[00:09:58] Speaker A: Yeah, it's good. It's very nostalgic.
[00:10:01] Speaker B: It reminds me if there's a place on I40 between El Reno, like, just outside of Yukon, like just west of Yukon in Oklahoma, that used to have a place on the side of the road called Cimarron Pottery that my grandmother would always make us stay at for, like, four hours on Saturdays.
That's kind of the smell of Pier 1. It's real nice.
[00:10:23] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:10:24] Speaker B: Cimmeron Pottery. If you know of Cimmer on pottery, you're welcome.
[00:10:27] Speaker A: For the memory, you're welcome.
What else you're welcome to do is read this issue of Scorch.
[00:10:32] Speaker B: Yes, indeed.
[00:10:33] Speaker A: It's 42. The answer to Life Universe and everything.
Also a loss number.
[00:10:39] Speaker B: Yes, yes.
[00:10:40] Speaker A: As we've established, these are many. We've discovered many issue 42s. We have probably not many. Probably King Spawn Gunslinger.
[00:10:48] Speaker B: This one.
[00:10:49] Speaker A: What are the core four?
Well, because King Swan gunslinger spawn. We haven't covered 42.
[00:10:55] Speaker B: Yeah. No, no.
[00:10:56] Speaker A: Ain't gonna.
Never gonna get to it.
[00:11:00] Speaker B: Yeah, Yeah. I don't think we are.
[00:11:03] Speaker A: I don't think we are.
[00:11:04] Speaker B: We've committed to the modern spawn.
[00:11:06] Speaker A: Oh, they're making too much to just spawn. It's a lot. Not too much. It's not too much.
[00:11:10] Speaker B: David. It's never. It's as Luther Vandross would say, Johnny. It's never too much.
[00:11:14] Speaker A: It's never too much.
But this cover is too much on issue 42, because. Oh, yeah, cover here.
[00:11:20] Speaker B: I also got the A cover. The Thaddeus Roebuck cover. It is awesome.
[00:11:25] Speaker A: Yep. It's Jessica.
These are like. It's like another realm where she's frozen in ice next to some bones.
[00:11:32] Speaker B: Yeah. It looks like she's laying on top of a. Like a glacial sheet kind of.
[00:11:38] Speaker A: Yeah, because she's not in the ice.
[00:11:39] Speaker B: No, she's. Yeah, she's on top of it. She's, like, laying on it. Or it's like.
Like that. That glass in the ground that covers the streets of Old LA and Demolition Man.
It's like she's laying on that glass.
[00:11:54] Speaker A: Over a bunch of over.
[00:11:56] Speaker B: Over.
[00:11:56] Speaker A: Bones.
[00:11:57] Speaker B: Bones. Yeah, bones.
And she's got a. She's cradling a gun.
[00:12:03] Speaker A: Yeah. Backwards.
[00:12:03] Speaker B: Her hair's just splayed out and just the fantastical Jessica Priest hair way. And. Yeah, there's bones.
[00:12:12] Speaker A: Bones, bones.
[00:12:13] Speaker B: There's more. There's. There's more skulls than any other bone.
So many skulls.
[00:12:18] Speaker A: There's so many skulls.
[00:12:19] Speaker B: So many skulls. Yeah. Jessica Priest is just chilling. It's got a nice sort of blue like tea stained colorway.
[00:12:30] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:30] Speaker B: Then the COVID B, the Frederico Sabatini cover is if cover A is nice and serene. This is the exact opposite. It's. It's got a. Got a little bit of a heat miser. Cool miser.
[00:12:44] Speaker A: It doesn't look like the heat miser, but it's. It's female hot, right?
[00:12:48] Speaker B: Yeah, I think so.
[00:12:49] Speaker A: Or as they're called in this issue. Experiment. Blank, blank, blank, blank, blank.
[00:12:53] Speaker B: And just like crouched low, licking some of the viscera off its hands. Just completely surrounded by carnage, Johnny. So much carnage.
[00:13:03] Speaker A: There's so much carnage. It's like a cat that got caught doing something bad.
[00:13:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:13:07] Speaker A: Specimen 81211H.
[00:13:11] Speaker B: Nice.
[00:13:11] Speaker A: I'm never going to remember specimen 812H1H.H1 1H.
[00:13:20] Speaker B: John is never gonna remember it either.
[00:13:21] Speaker A: I'm gonna remember it. I gotta fucking memorize.
[00:13:24] Speaker B: Okay, cool. What is it?
[00:13:27] Speaker A: Specimen 812H1 1H. No, that's wrong.
[00:13:31] Speaker B: I thought it was 8118.
[00:13:32] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a. I don't know. There's an H, there's an eight. It's a specimen.
[00:13:36] Speaker B: Well, you've memorized it wrong. You'll never be able to memorize it the correct way ever again.
[00:13:40] Speaker A: You're right.
Yeah, it's a. It's a. It's femme haunt. Looking like heat miser.
[00:13:46] Speaker B: Yeah, it looks like hair. It looks like there might be like some motes of fire floating around. Unless it's just like implying that there's still blood flying around.
[00:13:57] Speaker A: It looks like. It looks like embers to me.
[00:14:00] Speaker B: Yeah, I think so. Well, it's a good cover. It's good.
[00:14:04] Speaker A: Rose petals. No, they're not rose petals.
[00:14:06] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Definitely not rose petals.
Very interesting.
[00:14:10] Speaker A: Very good covers.
[00:14:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:13] Speaker A: We pop him open.
[00:14:14] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:15] Speaker A: And we gotta give credit where credit is due.
We got script plot by John Lehman. Todd McFarlane on additional script.
[00:14:23] Speaker B: Yes, indeed.
[00:14:24] Speaker A: Art by Steven Segovia.
Colors by Danae Ribeiro.
Lettering by Emerald Design.
Cover artists are already covered by us.
[00:14:35] Speaker B: Yes. Five minutes ago.
[00:14:37] Speaker A: Creative director is Todd McFarlane. Editor in chief is Thomas.
Previously in the Scorched.
The viscerator is slowly and surely building her team to take on the scorched.
[00:14:53] Speaker B: Nice.
[00:14:54] Speaker A: There it is.
[00:14:54] Speaker B: Very nice.
I saw you checking the COVID to see if the.
[00:14:58] Speaker A: If the on there. I did.
No, it's back. It's now the scorching.
[00:15:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:15:02] Speaker A: What's scorched For a bit.
[00:15:04] Speaker B: It's got to be wonderful to keep Those books straight. And bookkeeping.
[00:15:08] Speaker A: Bring that the back. It's cleaner.
[00:15:10] Speaker B: Yeah, it is. And speaking of clean, Johnny, we open up on the clean streets of New York City.
[00:15:17] Speaker A: Yeah. Rudy Giuliani fucked it up, made Disney fight it, printed it up just to get fucking 9 11.
[00:15:24] Speaker B: Yeah. But we open on a crime scene and what looks like Times Square, which is wild.
And we got some police detectives that we know kind of well. Johnny.
[00:15:35] Speaker A: Yeah, it's Sam Twitch in a scorch. What in the what?
[00:15:37] Speaker B: What the heck? Then we got some forensic sky in an all body suit taking pictures of a bloody hand.
[00:15:45] Speaker A: A bloody hand and a bloody man.
[00:15:47] Speaker B: Yeah. Next to a little number two because it's marked as evidence. And I like.
[00:15:51] Speaker A: They're right in front of the K Pop TV bar.
[00:15:53] Speaker B: Yeah, I like that little cat lug. Wow. And tofu.
Look out, Lugao.
It looks like the CRN lady is up there in the background behind you.
[00:16:05] Speaker A: Yep, yep, yep.
[00:16:06] Speaker B: Very nice.
[00:16:07] Speaker A: And they're just like, what the fuck is this? A gang hit or some kind of. Just some unlucky sons of bitches.
[00:16:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:13] Speaker A: And you turn the page, there's like fucking 20 dead bodies in the middle of Times Square.
[00:16:18] Speaker B: Yeah. Just like piled all on top of a couple of cars and scattered all over the place. It's real fucked up.
[00:16:25] Speaker A: I like Steven Segosi is Sam and twitch. They're very classic 90s. Sam and twitch.
[00:16:29] Speaker B: Yeah, they are.
[00:16:30] Speaker A: Sam's back to his old weight.
[00:16:32] Speaker B: His pants are holding on for dear life.
[00:16:36] Speaker A: Yes, they are.
[00:16:37] Speaker B: Like it isn't even. Isn't even funny. Oh boy.
They're physically impossible pants.
So Sam and Twitch are discussing kind of what could have happened here. And Twitch is, you know, getting rid of all of the explanations of what would be very easy for them to handle by being like, yeah, no, this is beyond anybody around here's means. And they're very well organized.
That's not gonna. It's not gonna bode well.
[00:17:07] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:17:08] Speaker B: Military style. And the cops aren't gonna stand a chance.
[00:17:11] Speaker A: Then a SWAT team guy runs up, says, detectives, we found something you're gonna want to see this.
A murder weapon?
[00:17:18] Speaker B: Yes, sir.
[00:17:19] Speaker A: They see it's a fucking demon hand with a fucking existence gun in it.
[00:17:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
Oh, geez.
So gross.
[00:17:28] Speaker A: A gross Helgon. And it says, end prologue.
[00:17:31] Speaker B: And then you can see Sam and Twitch's face reflected in the blood puddle that's surrounding the hand.
[00:17:37] Speaker A: Surrounding the hand.
[00:17:38] Speaker B: Mm.
[00:17:39] Speaker A: And we cut to the Bavarian Alps.
[00:17:41] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:17:42] Speaker A: Ricola.
[00:17:45] Speaker B: Ricola.
[00:17:48] Speaker A: Two weeks earlier. Yeah, we learned that this is One of these laboratories that they found in Jason Wynn's files and that the Scorch is coming to get it.
[00:17:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
We focus on a couple of lackeys outside doing some perimeter checks. And one of them's like, man, the higher ups are spooked. They got triple patrols going on. And his buddy's like, yep, definitely spooked.
[00:18:13] Speaker A: He's like, do your job. Don't fall asleep. We can't afford to lose this gig. What are these guys, like fucking roommates?
We can't afford to lose this gig, man.
[00:18:23] Speaker B: He's the roommate that is owed money.
You can't pay me back if you don't make these bills.
[00:18:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:18:30] Speaker B: And so Jessica Priest sneaks in and relieves them of any burdenous obligations they might have outside.
[00:18:38] Speaker A: Yeah.
They ain't paying rent anymore.
[00:18:41] Speaker B: Yeah. She also relieves them of the burden of their head. Speaking of Sleepy Hollow, Johnny, that Hessian soldier would be proud.
[00:18:50] Speaker A: The heads were not found severed. The heads were not found at all.
Murder needs no Ghosts come from the grave.
[00:18:58] Speaker B: Well, that movie, it's a good movie. It's a hell of good movie. And so Jessica Priest is. Is doing this in a real flash and bloody way because she wants Jason. Jason Wynn to know that Jessica Priest and the Scorched are going to be like Twisted Sister and they just not.
[00:19:15] Speaker A: Gonna take it anymore when they attack, attack, attack.
[00:19:19] Speaker B: Yeah. The assault begins.
[00:19:21] Speaker A: The assault begins. She tells them that the security's down. Everyone go, go, go.
[00:19:26] Speaker B: And Redeemer and Reaper are just like 100% simpatico now.
[00:19:33] Speaker A: They're best buds.
[00:19:35] Speaker B: They're like the. They're like a double headed beast of killing bad guys.
[00:19:42] Speaker A: The same person.
[00:19:44] Speaker B: We got a fixed up Overkill just coming back and throwing all over the place.
We get medieval, cutting the dudes and his gun in half.
[00:19:56] Speaker A: And back. He worked out his issues with Mark.
[00:19:58] Speaker B: Yeah. And then he. He like necroplasm. Explodes some guys into us. The satellite dish to disable their communications.
[00:20:06] Speaker A: Pretty cool.
[00:20:07] Speaker B: Pretty neat.
[00:20:08] Speaker A: Then Overkill just punches his way in. They walk in all badass, just like swinging her hips.
[00:20:13] Speaker B: It's. It's so cool. If this were.
If this were a James Gunn movie, this would have been the.
[00:20:19] Speaker A: The music, the slow motion walking to music. Yeah. Yeah, I watched an episode of that. Creature Commandos and there was a. There was a music part. That's pretty cool.
[00:20:27] Speaker B: Was it the. The start wearing purple one?
[00:20:30] Speaker A: I don't think so.
[00:20:31] Speaker B: Oh, there's. There's one that's set to start wearing purple and it's pretty Great.
[00:20:34] Speaker A: Maybe it was. This is where the guy blows up the tank.
[00:20:36] Speaker B: Like the, the robot G.I. robot?
[00:20:41] Speaker A: No, the. The skeleton man.
[00:20:44] Speaker B: Oh, okay, okay.
[00:20:45] Speaker A: He like walks through a tank and like melts people.
[00:20:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
It's a fun show.
[00:20:50] Speaker A: Yeah, it was good. I enjoyed it. I watched an episode of it.
[00:20:53] Speaker B: And so they just like wander through this big hole that overkill is made in the wall.
[00:20:58] Speaker A: And they come to a safe.
[00:20:59] Speaker B: Yeah. The Jessica Priest says that the things developed in this warehouse would ultimately make modern warfare obsolete. And so whatever it is, they're gonna find it and they're gonna nullify it. So they are at the vault's door and Medieval gets to just like, just like opens it up like it's a can of beans, Johnny.
[00:21:20] Speaker A: Like a can of beans.
[00:21:22] Speaker B: Just, just right in there. Oh boy.
[00:21:24] Speaker A: And we get the opening reading.
[00:21:26] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:26] Speaker A: Because what they discover is a portal to hell.
[00:21:29] Speaker B: A goddamn portal to hell.
[00:21:31] Speaker A: A goddamn portal to hell.
[00:21:33] Speaker B: There's. There's like a whole bunch of technicians standing around like pointing it at screen. God damn portal to hell. Can you believe?
[00:21:42] Speaker A: Ain't nobody got time for that.
[00:21:45] Speaker B: There's all sorts of winged beasts and fanged creatures coming through the portal. And it looks like there's a whole bunch of safety guys hanging around. And the security are like, it's a health security consignment.
And Jessica Priest is just like, none of these bastards could leave alive.
And so the, the scientists pointing at the screens are all like intruders. Sound the alarm. And so the. The hell based rent a cops start just shooting lightning at the scorched other staffs.
[00:22:19] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:22:20] Speaker B: And the scorched are just like dodging it and getting out of the way. And then Jessica Priest like falls with her. Her chains and takes a couple guys out.
[00:22:29] Speaker A: They're crawling over overkill like a bunch of compies in the lost world.
[00:22:33] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. He's flinging them all over the place. And then Redeemer and Reaper are just scrowling and Jessica Priest is just running around scooping people up in her chains and just causing blood to go everywhere.
And then they were ignoring the portal.
[00:22:51] Speaker A: And people were spewing through like tons of demons.
[00:22:55] Speaker B: But. But Medieval and Redeemer were champing at the bit to unleash their fury. Johnny, here's where I get. I get to be a pedant. Champing at the bit, not chomping at the bit. Come on. And world decides Champing. Champing.
[00:23:07] Speaker A: I would say chomping, but it's.
[00:23:09] Speaker B: Champing is the original phrase. I. I understand, I understand that it has changed so much that, yeah, both are correct, but the original phrase is champing.
[00:23:18] Speaker A: Well, you're the champion of champing, David.
[00:23:21] Speaker B: I'm the champion, Johnny. That means I'm the best I did, and anything you could do, I can do better.
[00:23:27] Speaker A: No, you can't.
[00:23:28] Speaker B: Yes, I can.
[00:23:29] Speaker A: No, you can.
[00:23:30] Speaker B: Yes, I can.
[00:23:32] Speaker A: Frigidaire.
[00:23:33] Speaker B: Frigidaire. Frigidaire.
[00:23:36] Speaker A: Refrigerator.
Tomato. Tomato.
[00:23:39] Speaker B: Oh, boy. Very fun.
[00:23:41] Speaker A: No one says potahto, nobody.
[00:23:44] Speaker B: Unless they're saying potato. Potato. Well, it's like Fez in that 70s show.
I say tomato, you say tomato.
[00:23:51] Speaker A: I say tomato, you say tomato.
[00:23:54] Speaker B: Because who calls it a fucking tomah?
[00:23:56] Speaker A: Tomato, Tomato, toma. Potato. Potato, I guess.
[00:24:00] Speaker B: Except for the hobbits. The hobbits call them tomatoes. Oh, great. Ash on my tomatoes.
But yes. So the Redeemer and Medieval do some sort of magic hokum, and they. They close the portal.
And Jessica Priest says, you know, I kind of hate that it took us so long to do that, but I'm glad that the team was back together and working so well. And Jessica Priest is like, okay, we need. We need Mark Rosen. Medieval. Do it now.
[00:24:28] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:24:29] Speaker B: And so Mark goes over and starts tickety tacking away, getting the information from the.
The computer stations and reapers over there, looking through some of the crates that are piled around the portal. And he's like that. They're smuggling drug or guns from hell.
[00:24:45] Speaker A: They do some kind of weapons deal.
[00:24:47] Speaker B: Look at these. Look at this weird shit.
Can you imagine what sort of damage these could cause?
And then. And then Mark Rosen finds.
Listed on Director Win's priority list specimen 81211H.
[00:25:06] Speaker A: Yeah, duh. I have it memorized.
[00:25:07] Speaker B: Yeah, you did have it memorized. Shit. Shit. You were right, Johnny. God damn it. The female hunt.
And so they're. They're tracking her, and Jessica Priest is like. And Kilgore, he left the team, which means he'll have to fight her alone if she finds him. And she's like, I don't think. I don't. I don't think he's good enough to be able to completely defend himself against this female hunt.
[00:25:32] Speaker A: And she's. She's stalking him.
[00:25:34] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:25:35] Speaker A: And it ends with her jumping at the page.
[00:25:39] Speaker B: Yeah, just like lunging and hot suits. Just like.
Then we get a skull to end the issue. Johnny.
[00:25:48] Speaker A: Spawn skull to end. Scorched skull. Spawn skull.
[00:25:52] Speaker B: Scone. Sporched skull.
[00:25:54] Speaker A: Scon. Scorch skull.
[00:25:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:26:00] Speaker A: Some spawning ground presents fan art.
[00:26:02] Speaker B: Yeah, indeed. We've got some art by Mark Marvita, who I do Believe we have shouted out previously.
[00:26:09] Speaker A: Pretty awesome.
[00:26:09] Speaker B: It's pretty awesome art. It's Jessica Priest just doing a jump away with some guns. It's really nice.
Got some. Another one that looks kind of like a. A cover of Jessica Priest jumping in the air and shooting while she's got a big knife. It actually makes her look like the. That lady from Heavy Metal 2000.
[00:26:28] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:26:29] Speaker B: It's kind of what she looks like in this.
[00:26:31] Speaker A: I can see that.
[00:26:32] Speaker B: Especially the knife, because that's the kind of knife she had.
[00:26:35] Speaker A: Mm.
[00:26:36] Speaker B: Very nice. We got it.
[00:26:37] Speaker A: We got some cosplay from Cat.
[00:26:39] Speaker B: Yeah, some cosplay. Think I got a big right. Big right foot there, Johnny.
[00:26:44] Speaker A: Big right boot.
[00:26:45] Speaker B: Look at it.
I like the. I like that. The Spawn mask is like a masquerade mask.
[00:26:50] Speaker A: And then we get some spawn tattoos where there's a spawn and there's a she spawn.
[00:26:54] Speaker B: Yeah, that looks kind of like a movie spawn a little bit. Yeah. It's real good. Yeah. Fan art. We love seeing it.
Any more. Sponge Universe, Johnny.
[00:27:05] Speaker A: Always nice.
[00:27:06] Speaker B: Don't miss these ongoing titles then, Johnny. We got the King Spawn. The Spawn. The Gunslinger. The scorched.
Hell yeah. Core 4.
[00:27:14] Speaker A: Core 4.
[00:27:15] Speaker B: Core 4.
[00:27:17] Speaker A: We got the classics ad.
[00:27:19] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. And the COVID ad is the Diablo 4 toys.
[00:27:23] Speaker A: The real Core 4 right there, baby.
[00:27:26] Speaker B: Johnny's Core 4 at least.
[00:27:28] Speaker A: Absolutely. Love me some Diablo 4.
Season starts next week.
[00:27:33] Speaker B: The Diablo. Core 4.
[00:27:35] Speaker A: Diablo, Core 4.
[00:27:37] Speaker B: And that's scorched 42, Gianni.
[00:27:41] Speaker A: That is scorched 42.
[00:27:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:27:47] Speaker A: Yeah.
All right, so next up, we got King Spawn.
[00:28:05] Speaker B: We sure do.
[00:28:06] Speaker A: Number 46.
[00:28:07] Speaker B: Yeah, the.
There's nothing special about the number 46 as far as I know.
[00:28:13] Speaker A: Not that I know of, no.
Yep, 46.
[00:28:20] Speaker B: Shitty ass number, stupid piece of garbage number in the middle there.
[00:28:25] Speaker A: No, we got king spawn 46. And mine's got a scary ass spawn on it.
[00:28:29] Speaker B: Nice. Is that because you have the A cover, Johnny, that Marco Falia cover?
[00:28:33] Speaker A: Absolutely.
[00:28:34] Speaker B: I also have that one in. Yeah, it's a scary spawn.
[00:28:38] Speaker A: He's like, waiting outside in your hallway. Terrifying.
[00:28:40] Speaker B: Although the pattern on the floor makes it read to me like he's appeared in a bathroom.
[00:28:48] Speaker A: He might be in your bathroom.
[00:28:50] Speaker B: Which is arguably more frightening than appearing in the hallway outside of your apartment.
[00:28:55] Speaker A: Right. It's more scary.
[00:28:57] Speaker B: And it's like. That's a safe space, Johnny.
[00:29:00] Speaker A: It's the bathroom.
[00:29:01] Speaker B: Yeah, but yeah, that's. That's the A cover. And it's got that.
The. The puppeteerly, you know, muted tones. Not quite as muted as a Puppeteerly. But still dark colors. One specific one. One strong point of light.
[00:29:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:29:20] Speaker B: And the rest of it, just mostly shadows.
[00:29:22] Speaker A: Yeah. It's just like.
It's just terrifying.
[00:29:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:29:25] Speaker A: It's one scary.
[00:29:26] Speaker B: He's. He's a scary dude, Jenny.
And there's another cover for this Johnny Marciel Toledando Vargas cover.
And it is.
[00:29:38] Speaker A: It's Spawn being very buff.
[00:29:40] Speaker B: Yeah. And very like, it's. It's bright and like, it seems like it's outside. It seems like it might be overcast outside, but it's still outside in the full light. And he's just like. Instead of being creepy scary man in the shadows, he's just like Superman. Like, it's. The A cover is him as Batman and the B cover is him as Superman.
[00:30:01] Speaker A: Yeah. Kind of.
[00:30:02] Speaker B: Kind of how it feels.
[00:30:04] Speaker A: He's like, out, out and about.
[00:30:06] Speaker B: Yeah. A couple of good covers, Johnny.
[00:30:09] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:30:10] Speaker B: And. Well, covers are meant to be popped open to see what's inside.
[00:30:15] Speaker A: You know they are.
[00:30:17] Speaker B: Why don't we see what sort of juicy credits need to be due here, Johnny.
Okay, we've got script plot by Rory McConville with additional script by Todd McFarlane.
We've got art by Yildiray Sennaar. Johnny.
It's good.
[00:30:34] Speaker A: Yeah. He kicks ass in this book.
[00:30:36] Speaker B: This book is creepy as hell. I love it. Color by Evan Nunez, lettering by and world design.
The COVID artists as previous have already been covered.
Creative director is Todd McFarlane and the editor in chief is one Mr. Thomas Healy.
Previously in King Spawn.
Spawn is banished to a horrific hell dimension, leaving Agent lynch all on his own.
[00:31:05] Speaker A: And yeah, we open in like, Agent Lynch's mind.
[00:31:09] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah.
Spawn is doing one of his new telepathic things that he somehow learned how to do. Still.
Still kind of lost on where that. That came from.
[00:31:19] Speaker A: You know, he just doesn't know.
[00:31:21] Speaker B: But the last issue ended with Spawn being like, sucked into the ground after a battle.
[00:31:28] Speaker A: And so he's reaching out with his mind to Agent Lynch.
[00:31:31] Speaker B: Yeah. And like, I like that he's reaching out through the rocks that are devouring him. And it's fun. It's great. It's a great conceit.
And Agent lynch is just like, what the hell is this? And Spot is like, shut up. We don't have time.
[00:31:44] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:31:45] Speaker B: It was like. He's like, okay. Wrath is trying to exile me to another realm.
I know where the boy is. I know where.
What's his face. The Wraith are. I'm gonna. I'm gonna to you just straight from my Brain. But I'm about to lose reception, so shut up and I'll get it to you in a second.
[00:32:04] Speaker A: And then he goes, now wake up, Lynch. Yeah, the agent pops a bat. Pops up in the hospital bed with a little gasp.
[00:32:12] Speaker B: And so then we see. We see back at the FBI, we see the.
The rest of Agent Lynch's team just being like, okay, here's what we got. We got. We got the attack of the mall. And we got the other one, the Al Simmons bit. So we got some people. People checking this out. And then we're gonna make sure that we get Al Simmons tonight.
We gotta catch the son of a bitch, he says.
And then FBI pal of Agent lynch with his Charlie brown, desperate Charlie brown hair, like, gets a call from Lynch. And lynch is just like, checked himself out of the hospital he was in. And he's driving and he's like, I know where the boy is. I know where the person who's perpetuating this violence is. I'm gonna text you the address.
I'm also about to lose service, so catch you later. Bye bye.
Peace.
It's fun. That both he and Spawn had. Oh, we're gonna lose reception.
[00:33:12] Speaker A: And they think Al is the killer because they're all dressing like Simmons, the mall shooter. Yeah, he's like, no.
[00:33:19] Speaker B: Yeah. Agent lynch is like, no, no, no, you got it wrong. It's not. It's not Al Simmons.
And so he's driving into these spooky woods. Johnny, where this. This address that he was given by Spawn. And I don't know how you text this address.
What is the address? Just like.
[00:33:37] Speaker A: Yeah, spooky.
[00:33:39] Speaker B: Spooky cave and foot of mountain through creepy ass woods.
[00:33:45] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:33:47] Speaker B: Oh, boy.
[00:33:48] Speaker A: 13 Dead End Drive, more like it. Yeah, he's going down this big old cave.
[00:33:55] Speaker B: He goes through the cave. He's got like the. The phone.
[00:33:57] Speaker A: I wish he had a real flat. Come on. You need a real flashlight. I wish your phone. Like an amateur. Come on.
[00:34:02] Speaker B: Yeah, but whatever, I guess it's fine. And we get a little.
[00:34:06] Speaker A: Flashlights are so much better than using your phone. Yeah.
[00:34:09] Speaker B: Using your phone. It sucks so bad. And like, it, like, you can't have it. Not have the screen come on. And so the screen is just like ruining any ability for you to see what the flashlight is trying to show you. Sucks so much.
[00:34:23] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:34:25] Speaker B: We get a voiceover from Agent lynch about, you know, he's talking about why.
Why did they take his brother? Why his family? Why him specifically?
It's as he says. Once there was an innocent boy called William Lynch.
[00:34:40] Speaker A: And he's just like. He couldn't stop the nightmares, but he knew when he got older.
[00:34:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:34:45] Speaker A: And he knew the monster was still out there.
[00:34:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:34:48] Speaker A: He comes up on the fucking wraith.
[00:34:51] Speaker B: Yeah.
With this revelation that the monster was still out there. And we see the wraith in front of this altar that is just completely surrounded by skulls, Johnny.
[00:35:00] Speaker A: Completely.
[00:35:01] Speaker B: This is obviously the main skull is the skull of the deity. Oh, wait, no, I'm confusing my spawns now.
[00:35:08] Speaker A: No, he's got a deity.
[00:35:10] Speaker B: Is this. Is this the same story as Medieval Spawn?
[00:35:13] Speaker A: No, it's a different fucking demon.
[00:35:15] Speaker B: Well, no, but like. Like the same. The same concept is there's this demon reaching out for access to our realm through this one person.
Yeah.
So I forgot what the demon's name was.
[00:35:27] Speaker A: What do you want, a fucking Academy Award or something?
[00:35:29] Speaker B: No, they give Academy Awards for forgetting. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. Call the Academy. Put my name on that. That nomination sheet right now. Best forgetterer.
[00:35:41] Speaker A: Best forgetterer of all time.
[00:35:43] Speaker B: Yeah. Johnny, there's a hell of a lot of skulls here.
[00:35:46] Speaker A: Hell of a lot.
[00:35:48] Speaker B: Like, this is like a Misfits concert. So many skulls.
[00:35:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
And when I was in middle school, there's a group of kids that started a band that played at the talent show. It was like a punk rock band, and they're called the Muskulls.
[00:36:07] Speaker B: The Muskles.
[00:36:08] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:36:09] Speaker B: Like.
[00:36:09] Speaker A: Like muscles.
[00:36:09] Speaker B: Like muscles.
Did they have, like. Did they have, like, a bicep being flexed and it's a skull instead of a bicep?
[00:36:21] Speaker A: No, it's just the misfit skull. Oh, the Crimson Ghost.
[00:36:25] Speaker B: I guess that's. I guess that's all you have.
[00:36:28] Speaker A: At least use the same skull.
[00:36:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
Being in middle school, you are short on resources.
[00:36:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:36:37] Speaker B: So Agent lynch creeps up on the Wraith from behind and draws his gun and then is taken out by the ghoulie henchmen.
[00:36:48] Speaker A: The ghoulie henchmen?
The Wraith assassin.
[00:36:52] Speaker B: Yeah. And the Wraith is just like. Yeah.
Forgive me, William. Or do you prefer to be called Bill and Agent Lynch? Just trying to find Andy, this little kid. Andy.
[00:37:05] Speaker A: Oh, hey, Barbie.
[00:37:06] Speaker B: Oh, Barbie butt.
[00:37:07] Speaker A: Get a Barbie butt.
[00:37:08] Speaker B: Got a Barbie butt right to the screen.
Oh, boy.
It's our cats. Say hello, I guess.
[00:37:15] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:37:16] Speaker B: And.
And so the Wraith is like, oh, it's too late for Andy. Don't. Don't even bother asking about him. And so. So lynch is just like, we're gonna take care of you. We're gonna take care of you. Wraith. And Wraith is like, actually the backup that you thought was coming.
I already went and canceled it.
Who's like, I have been here long enough to, you know, develop some power in this realm.
Your little. Your little escapades aren't gonna stop me.
And it's like, so else. Who else is there to. Who else is there to save you? Spawn. Oh, no, no, no, no.
Spawn.
[00:37:54] Speaker A: He must. Much bigger problems to deal with.
[00:37:57] Speaker B: Much bigger problems to deal with. If we cut to Spawn just being, like, super badass. He's got these spikes all over him, standing on top of this mountain, and there's just like, fucking Mongolian death worms coming at him.
[00:38:09] Speaker A: Yeah. There's like a Sarlacc.
[00:38:11] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:11] Speaker A: There's like a Cthulhu.
It's crazy.
[00:38:15] Speaker B: It's like tooth, sea anemones. It's awesome.
[00:38:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:38:20] Speaker B: And. And then the Wraith is just like. I mean, it's pointless for you to try, really. I mean, back when I started this, I was like, somebody's gonna. Somebody's gonna figure this out, and I'm gonna be taken away from for all these things. And he's like, you know what? You know, people. People will be outraged for a couple of days, and then ultimately they just forget about these kids. So, you know, nothing's gonna happen.
Yeah, I'm just gonna. I'm just gonna keep doing what I've been doing.
We get a pretty sad little. It's a very sad little monologue, but ultimately frighteningly true.
[00:38:52] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:38:52] Speaker B: And then as Agent lynch is just like, jesus. Jesus Christ, you're insane.
The Wraith is like, ah, yes, yes. It looks like Andy's here. We're ready to begin.
And so a couple.
Yeah. Robed clad figures are leading Andy out in us also in a row with, like, a tiara with big bull horns or like Loki horns or whatever.
Obviously, like, the skull of whatever deity this is.
They're not gonna. They're not gonna let Agent lynch get anywhere close to Andy. They're like, no, no, no, no, no. He's. We're gonna sacrifice him in a couple of minutes. You know, you don't even have time to get over there. Don't even worry about. Yeah, and he's, you know, he's trying to give lynch an out, and he's like, just. Just go. Just. Just turn around and leave and go back to whatever morality you've done, decided. His actual morality, and just leave this to me. Because whether you fight it or not, it's all going to end out the same. So just take the easy way. And Agent lynch, like, seems to seriously consider it. And he's like, but I need to know why you chose our family.
[00:40:06] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:40:06] Speaker B: And the Wraith is just like, I don't know. That was a long ass time ago, dude. You see all these skulls?
[00:40:12] Speaker A: You think all these kids I killed?
[00:40:13] Speaker B: Yeah. You think I remember one of those little.
Out of all of them. No.
And this pisses Agent lynch off real bad. Pretty bad. Yeah.
And so he lunges towards the Wraith and the assassin just stops him. Catches him, just, like, holds him, holds it, like, puts a hand on his chest to stop him and then just stabs a knife into his. And then we get a continuation of the voiceover, starting once again at the beginning.
Once there was an innocent boy called William Lynch.
And it repeats the voiceover as Agent lynch is just, like, holding his back and crawling on the ground and screaming in pain and terror and just like, looking up at the altar before him as the cloaked figures are leading Andy directly to the altar where his sacrifice will be made.
And yes, and he's crying as the. Like the vision fades as. As Agent lynch is slowly dying on the floor. And his last. His last little bit of the voiceover. But there is. But there are some monsters. They can't be stopped.
And then it just, like, ends.
[00:41:33] Speaker A: He's. There's blood coming out of his nose, his mouth. He was dead as hell.
[00:41:37] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:41:37] Speaker A: Hope he's not dead. I like Agent Lynch.
[00:41:39] Speaker B: Yeah. I hope he. I hope he reached out. I hope he. He, in his dying. In his dying moment, begged to sell his soul to return to the one he loves. And we could get Agent Lynch.
Spawn P.D.
[00:41:54] Speaker A: Yeah, the.
[00:41:56] Speaker B: The SBI. The Spawn Bureau of Investigation. He's just got like a whole Langley down in hell taking care of all this. Those dang heavens be pretty cool. Maybe he could be Gumshoe Spawn. Oh, hell yeah.
[00:42:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:42:13] Speaker B: More gumshoe fairness.
[00:42:15] Speaker A: I hope he doesn't die.
[00:42:17] Speaker B: And then we get the crown to end the issue. Johnny King spawns Crown and Johnny, it's been a while for this. We've got a double Spawning Grounds issue.
[00:42:26] Speaker A: Yes, sir.
[00:42:27] Speaker B: And we got some. We got some fan art. Some fan art. The first fan art here is submitted by a. Damien P. And it is.
[00:42:35] Speaker A: It's a rag clown.
[00:42:36] Speaker B: It's the clown standing next to Al Simmons's.
The.
The. The place that the kids go wild for. Johnny Alison's grave.
[00:42:48] Speaker A: Everyone's favorite place at.
[00:42:49] Speaker B: There's this spooky tree and, like, the moon is obscured by the clouds and there's all these little bats flying around.
It's real cool. It's real awesome, Johnny.
[00:43:00] Speaker A: Pretty great.
[00:43:01] Speaker B: Damian B. Does a good job.
And then we've got another submission from Jazz. We have seen two Jazz submissions before. Or is this the second?
[00:43:14] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:43:15] Speaker B: Can't remember. But Jazz has submitted before.
And this time they wanted to submit some of their homage arts. So they had a starry night with a Spawn in it. And then the Great Wave of Kanagawa, where instead of the wave, it is Spawn's cloak. And it's pretty fucking cool.
[00:43:38] Speaker A: Yeah, it's pretty great.
[00:43:39] Speaker B: It's real cool. These are some great little arts.
And yeah, Thomas Healy just says, hey, this is awesome. Keep doing this work. We fucking love it.
Pretty cool. I'm gonna say your answer with regards to needing more Spawns universe from earlier is the same now. Joanie.
[00:43:59] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm gonna say I'm gonna need some.
[00:44:01] Speaker B: You like it? You love it? You want some more of it?
[00:44:04] Speaker A: I try so hard, but I can't rise above it.
[00:44:07] Speaker B: Yeah, just like that.
Very nice. We got this Core four.
We got the Image Classic set. Again, the back of the COVID is the Spawn issue one statue advertisement. Again, that was still in pre orders at the time that this issue came out and has since, I think been delivered mostly.
[00:44:27] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:44:29] Speaker B: And that is kingspawn46, Johnny.
[00:44:33] Speaker A: There it is. All of it is. Big 46 glory.
[00:44:36] Speaker B: Big 46. Man, these books. These books just clipped right along, Johnny.
[00:44:40] Speaker A: They sure did.
[00:44:41] Speaker B: They're real.
They're real good books. Real Clippy had a good run of episodes here, Johnny. With some just real good books.
[00:44:50] Speaker A: Really have.
[00:44:51] Speaker B: It's like when you have a. You see a dog that's a good dog and you see another duck and those are good dogs. And you see another dog that's a bad dog, but it's a dog. So they're all still good dogs, even though that dog is bad. Okay, Right. Because all dogs is good dogs, Johnny. And that's just how you rate them. And Johnny, I think that means it's time to rate these puppies.
[00:45:11] Speaker A: It's time to rate the puppies.
[00:45:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:45:15] Speaker A: So first up today we had scorch. Number 42.
[00:45:19] Speaker B: Yes, we did.
[00:45:20] Speaker A: It is a fun issue. It's setting up obviously a much larger thing. You start with the fun Sam and Twitch like intro and then you get kind of the meat of it and into like the fighting. It's a really action packed issue.
You get the team working together.
Steven Sokovia is delivering on that. Clean action.
[00:45:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:45:42] Speaker A: Clean art. It's just good. It's good to back. Get back to some scorch after they've been, you know. Yeah. Kind of like divided or doing crazy or like, it's nice to see them get back to doing like team and being good at it.
[00:45:54] Speaker B: Yeah, it's excellent. I like that the, the, the battle is ultimately kind of inconsequential because it's like a battle that there's absolutely no way they're going to lose. So instead of like every little bit of it being drawn out, it's just like, oh, that guy's doing this and that. They're over there doing that shit. Look at how cool that is. It's all.
[00:46:13] Speaker A: They were just kicking ass.
[00:46:14] Speaker B: It's like the, the first episode of a 90s animated superhero cartoon show. It's just so much crazy happens in the first 15 minutes and it's just like, whoa. What was that kind of how this issue felt? It's like Jubilee at the mall.
[00:46:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:46:31] Speaker B: Very exciting.
[00:46:32] Speaker A: I'm gonna give it four goddamn portals to hell.
[00:46:34] Speaker B: Well, God damn, Johnny. That's a great, a great rating.
[00:46:39] Speaker A: That's a goddamn good rating.
[00:46:40] Speaker B: It's a goddamn good rating. Yes, indeed it is.
I, I agree, Johnny, that the art is fantastic. Just love Steven Segovia doing what he does.
Uh, John Layman is just, just like, he's just throwing it down. He's like, at this point, he can do no wrong. Johnny. This is, this is some amazing. This is some amazing book. These scorched.
Yeah, yeah. And just the sheer amount of demon death in this is worth it for the price of a mission alone. And I. A lot of killing, A lot of killing. A lot of skulls across these two issues.
I am gonna give it four of these lugaw and tofu posters of this little cat eating the porridge from the page. I love it. I love it.
It's great.
They look so happy. I wonder if it's trying to be like sort of like an Asian flavored Garfield. Yeah, maybe like a, like a Garfield that just loves eating tofu ramen instead of just like, probably be much more polite than a, than actual Garfield.
[00:47:53] Speaker A: He's just a bit of a stinker.
[00:47:54] Speaker B: He's. He is a bit of a stinker.
[00:47:57] Speaker A: Who's not a stinker is Agent lynch and he's the star of King Spawn.
[00:48:01] Speaker B: Oh, man. Agent Lynch. Good Lord.
Tragic. Through some tragic tale.
[00:48:08] Speaker A: A tragic tale.
[00:48:09] Speaker B: This is, this is only like his third issue that he's in. Just like. Oh, boy.
[00:48:13] Speaker A: Third or fourth? Yeah.
[00:48:15] Speaker B: They've put so Much story into this one character. It's so great.
[00:48:19] Speaker A: And now he's dead.
[00:48:20] Speaker B: Now he's dead. He's dying. I hope hope is not dead. I hope he's just gonna spend a little bit of time in the Black Lodge and then we'll be able to recover him after he backward speaks to Laura Palmer for a minute.
[00:48:33] Speaker A: Yes, he is Agent lynch, after all.
[00:48:35] Speaker B: He is indeed. I bet. I bet he likes a strong black coffee and donuts.
[00:48:40] Speaker A: Yes, sir, a damn fine coffee.
[00:48:43] Speaker B: I like how. I like how it gets absurd to the point where the cops don't do anything. They're like, let's go get some donuts first.
We'll break. We'll bring a box around to the crime scene. It'll be fine.
Twin Peaks, it's damn fine show.
[00:48:59] Speaker A: This is a damn fine issue with King Spawn.
I like, like Spawn's not really in it very much. It mainly follows Agent lynch and we get kind of the. The storyline of the Wraith coming to a head with Andy getting sacrificed and Agent lynch being there, and it's just crazy. And the old race and our art makes it feel like a movie.
[00:49:15] Speaker B: Yeah, it's so good.
[00:49:17] Speaker A: It just makes it so grounded and like real.
Just like 3D. Like you just feel the space of it and the weight of everything. I love his art and I'm excited. I want us to read the next one.
[00:49:32] Speaker B: Yeah, this. This Roy McConville story, it's kind of. It's kind of actually a little bit like an Indiana Jones where it's this grand adventure, but like every. It.
It's. It's still very intimate every single step of the way. Only instead of, you know, bonding with your dad or finding a priceless relic, you're being taken to an altar for sacrifice. And it's crazy.
[00:49:55] Speaker A: Yeah, I really enjoyed this.
Going get 4.5 tentacle Cthulhu creatures fighting Spawn.
[00:50:02] Speaker B: Nice. That's excellent, man. This book is just so good. Rory McConville is just knocking it out of the park with this book.
And yeah, viol it. I love it so much. I'm going to give it for.
So many skulls.
So many.
[00:50:18] Speaker A: All the skulls.
[00:50:19] Speaker B: Skulls. All of them for. For all of the skulls.
[00:50:22] Speaker A: Nice.
[00:50:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:50:24] Speaker A: That's those puppies rated, David.
[00:50:25] Speaker B: That is those puppies rated.
And Johnny, you know what is a fun thing to do when you're reading some Spawn?
[00:50:37] Speaker A: Listen to music.
[00:50:40] Speaker B: Listening to music. Yeah. That's good. That's good. That's something you can do. But I was thinking. I was thinking trying to reach out and talk to somebody about the Spawn you just read, because that's part of.
[00:50:49] Speaker A: The Reach out and touch a fan.
[00:50:52] Speaker B: Yeah, maybe, maybe, maybe.
[00:50:55] Speaker A: If they consent to it.
[00:50:58] Speaker B: You definitely need to revise that phrasing for many celebrities apparently.
[00:51:04] Speaker A: Reach out and touch Faith.
[00:51:06] Speaker B: But yeah, reach out. Reach out and talk to somebody about some Spawn. Because that's half the fun of Spawn is talking about how fucking cool the Spawn is. Johnny. And this week we would like to introduce or like you to go out and interact with one of the. One of our Internet spawn friends who is in the fan art page here of scorch number 42.
And they have them listed here as Campbrawler, but that is their deviantart name. So if you're gonna look for them on Instagram, you're gonna have to look for Rickbuster 20. That's R I C Buster 20. And yeah, they got. They got a lot of Spawn. They got a lot of Spawn Art Workshop.
[00:51:46] Speaker A: I don't see a Rick Buster 20. Hold on.
[00:51:48] Speaker B: Where R I C B U s t e r20.
Yeah, just, just, just like that.
Just like right there.
[00:51:59] Speaker A: Oh, Rick. I was feeling Rick wrong.
[00:52:01] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Ric, no K. Did you put a K in it?
[00:52:04] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, what a fool I am.
[00:52:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:52:07] Speaker A: Some good art.
[00:52:08] Speaker B: He doesn't. Some good art. He's got some wild cats.
He's got some Lady Death.
He's got some spawn.
He's got some venom.
He's got. Is that fucking Turok?
[00:52:22] Speaker A: He's got a pretty scantily dressed x23.
[00:52:26] Speaker B: I mean, kind of the way it goes, unfortunately. Ooh, you got.
[00:52:30] Speaker A: She's an adult now.
[00:52:31] Speaker B: Yeah, that's true.
You've got Rogue in the Savage Land. That was recently written by Tim Seeley.
Fucking awesome. Rogue in the Shavich Land. You should check it out. It's got Conan.
[00:52:41] Speaker A: Cool. We got my girl Zatania.
[00:52:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
Got Poison Ivy. You got. You got the Last Ronin, Johnny. The tmnt. Last Ronin. It's. It's a great page. Go, go check them out. Give them some love. Rick Buster. It's Rick Ric Buster 20.
Oh, yeah.
[00:52:59] Speaker A: Pretty cool. He's specifically a colorist.
[00:53:02] Speaker B: Specifically a colorist, yes.
So. But color is important.
[00:53:08] Speaker A: The color is important. I just wanted to specify what else is important. David, While you're following Rickbuster20 with not with a K like I did on Instagram, you should also follow us on Instagram. We are regarding Spawn Pod. I will get over my anxiety and post on Instagram again one day, I promise.
[00:53:29] Speaker B: We will. We will do it. We Will do it. You will. You will soon be flush with time to.
[00:53:36] Speaker A: Maybe not soon, but in like a.
[00:53:37] Speaker B: Week or so to either fill it with more anxiety or just getting some shit done. Well, it'll be a couple of days of nothing but anxiety, and then you'll be like, God damn it, I got to do something. And then you'll. You'll figure it out.
[00:53:49] Speaker A: It'll all be fine.
[00:53:49] Speaker B: It'll be.
[00:53:50] Speaker A: We are regarding Spawn Pod on Instagram.
[00:53:51] Speaker B: Yes, indeed.
[00:53:52] Speaker A: We are regarding spawnpod gmail.com, if you want to hit us up.
[00:53:57] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. We'd like it if you did.
[00:53:59] Speaker A: We'd love it. We want some more of it.
Like we said earlier.
[00:54:03] Speaker B: Yes, indeed.
A lot of callbacks in this episode, Johnny.
[00:54:08] Speaker A: Call them back. And one more callback is a question to ask.
Every week, I like to ask a question.
And this week, the big, beautiful question.
My big, beautiful question will be, what is.
I can't think of one.
[00:54:27] Speaker B: Happening. What is happening?
[00:54:29] Speaker A: What is happening?
Do you know? I don't know.
[00:54:33] Speaker B: I don't. I don't know either.
[00:54:34] Speaker A: If you know what's happening, email us. Regarding spawnpodmail.com I was looking through the.
[00:54:39] Speaker B: Ones for what we could read next, Johnny, and there are some of them that I'm just like, how? What? How? What? What?
What?
So much spot.
[00:54:50] Speaker A: Yeah. What is happening? If you know what's happening or if you just want to say what's happening to you. Yeah, hit us up.
[00:54:55] Speaker B: Yeah. Let us know about the good stuff that's happening in your life.
We like to hear that, because this is our.
Our existence is short and pointless. So the only point that we can make is what we do right now. And why not? Why not make it good?
[00:55:09] Speaker A: Why not?
[00:55:09] Speaker B: Why not?
[00:55:10] Speaker A: I agree.
[00:55:11] Speaker B: If you could. If you could choose something cool. Choose something cool.
[00:55:14] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:55:15] Speaker B: Yeah, definitely. Speaking of choosing something cool, Johnny, would you like to choose some cool issues to read for another episode on another day?
[00:55:25] Speaker A: I would. And I'd like to read some cool gunslinger issues.
[00:55:29] Speaker B: Those. Those are definitely the coolest issues available.
[00:55:32] Speaker A: Is he's smoking a cigarillo.
[00:55:35] Speaker B: You know, he's shooting some demons. He's.
[00:55:37] Speaker A: He's shooting demons. Cigarillos out of their mouths.
[00:55:40] Speaker B: Yeah, he's. He's hanging out with some spooky people.
He's got a sort of begrudging alliance with a young native lady.
He's.
[00:55:52] Speaker A: Yeah, she's going to kick his ass.
[00:55:54] Speaker B: He's.
He just witnessed somebody throw a giant cat. Cat off the top of a roof.
[00:56:00] Speaker A: He contains multitudes. We're doing multitudes. Of Gunslinger Javi, Gunslinger and Tobias.
[00:56:09] Speaker B: So. So for. For. Then we will do Gunslinger Number 45 and Deadly Tales of the Gunslinger Number 8.
[00:56:16] Speaker A: Both flavors, David.
[00:56:17] Speaker B: Both flavors. But I. You got it. You got to have both flavors together. It's.
[00:56:21] Speaker A: Yeah, it's.
[00:56:22] Speaker B: It's just.
Oh, I just opened that one up to a very nice two page spread. So I'm excited for the Gunslinger 45 there.
[00:56:30] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:56:31] Speaker B: And always excited for Deadly Tales of the Gunslinger.
[00:56:35] Speaker A: Can't beat it.
[00:56:36] Speaker B: It's no exception.
[00:56:37] Speaker A: Can't beat it. Can't beat it. Can't beat it.
[00:56:39] Speaker B: Can't beat it. While you are online looking for potential ways to get a hold of Gunslinger's 45 and Deadly Tales 8, Swing on by Lonnie Bones. Wherever you get your music. He does our music and he is very good at it.
[00:56:54] Speaker A: Yeah. And listen to their other music.
[00:56:56] Speaker B: Yeah, do it.
We. We are very much appreciative of it.
And yeah, don't forget to like, subscribe. Follow us wherever you do. Tell your friends and family and co workers and neighbors and little sisters and kneelings and big sisters and your cat and your friend's cat and that.
That dog that you see across the street just like, hey, Doc, listen to Respawn.
[00:57:19] Speaker A: The cat in the alley, like the clown talks to.
[00:57:22] Speaker B: Yeah, definitely. Go. Go to an alley and talk to.
[00:57:24] Speaker A: A cat and tell them to listen to Respawn.
[00:57:27] Speaker B: Yeah, do it.
[00:57:28] Speaker A: Oh, my cat's going crazy.
[00:57:29] Speaker B: Oh, no.
[00:57:31] Speaker A: Barbie. She seemed like a Matrix jump off the wall.
I hope a cast has caught it on Mike.
[00:57:37] Speaker B: Oh, man. I mean, maybe we did catch it on Mike.
[00:57:41] Speaker A: She went like a flip.
It's dinner time. Barbie.
[00:57:47] Speaker B: The ghosts. The ghosts. Jenny, she's got to get the ghosts.
Well, Johnny, this is a fun time.
And we talked about some scorched. We talked about some King Spawn and it was a very good time.
[00:58:01] Speaker A: We skirted around Al Simmons. We never.
[00:58:04] Speaker B: Yeah, we were. He was in the periphery.
[00:58:06] Speaker A: He was. But featured.
[00:58:07] Speaker B: This is Spawn's universe, not Spawn proper.
[00:58:10] Speaker A: You're right.
[00:58:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
And it was.
[00:58:12] Speaker A: Buckle up, bitch.
[00:58:17] Speaker B: When did. When did Freddy Krueger go? A card to the team, Johnny.
[00:58:20] Speaker A: It's spooky season.
[00:58:24] Speaker B: Welcome to prime time.
[00:58:26] Speaker A: Exactly.
[00:58:27] Speaker B: Oh, man. There's a. There's a place in town that's doing a.
They do like a seminal gay film every month. And for October, their seminal gay film is going to be Nightmare.
Oh, yeah, There's a documentary about how that's the gayest movie ever made. And it's. It's a great documentary.
If you've ever seen. If you haven't, I forgot the name of it.
[00:58:54] Speaker A: Scream Queen.
[00:58:55] Speaker B: It is Scream Queen. Okay.
[00:58:56] Speaker A: Scream comma Queen.
[00:58:58] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, it's a. It's a great. It's a great documentary. It's real fun.
[00:59:02] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a real funny movie.
[00:59:04] Speaker B: It's.
[00:59:04] Speaker A: It's funny.
[00:59:05] Speaker B: It's. It's. It's so obvious now when you're watching the film.
It's just like, oh, oh, oh, oh. Wow.
[00:59:13] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:59:16] Speaker B: They thought they were being clever. I don't. I don't think they were being clever. They were just being. All the subtext is text in this.
Yeah, yeah, but it's fine. Go watch some Nightmare on Elm street too.
Well, Johnny, that tangent aside, I have run out of things to say. Except for that was a fuck ton of skulls. Holy shit.
Do you see all those things?
[00:59:36] Speaker A: I want your skull.
[00:59:40] Speaker B: I need your skulls.
Very nice.
[00:59:46] Speaker A: And I want your skull.
[00:59:51] Speaker B: You should let your. You should let your hair grow out to do it like a Jerry only or oni.
[00:59:57] Speaker A: Only. It's called the. The Devil's Lock.
[01:00:01] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, that's right.
[01:00:02] Speaker A: We looked it up before.
Smash the heads of little girls and put them on my wall.
[01:00:10] Speaker B: It's very. It's fairly Billy Kincaid coded. It is really misfits.
[01:00:15] Speaker A: I want your skull.
[01:00:16] Speaker B: Yeah, either that or Billy Kincaid is misfits coded.
I would say you probably shouldn't go into the bathroom with him, Johnny.
[01:00:25] Speaker A: I go in the bathroom with Glenn Danzig.
[01:00:27] Speaker B: Oh, no, no, no. Not Glenn Danzig with Billy Kincaid.
[01:00:30] Speaker A: No, I wouldn't go.
[01:00:31] Speaker B: No. He would stick a rife. A knife right in you.
[01:00:33] Speaker A: He's the son of a Democrat.
[01:00:39] Speaker B: Yeah, that tangent aside. Jesus. I took a tangent from my tangent to say, Johnny, may this fortune be with you.
[01:00:46] Speaker A: And also with you, David.
[01:00:49] Speaker B: Man, it took me a while. Long enough to get there. Dang.
What happens when you change it a tangent?
[01:00:54] Speaker A: I want your skull.
[01:00:55] Speaker B: You want my skull right now?
Well, you're gonna have to come get it, motherfucker.
[01:01:00] Speaker A: Okay, let's go.
[01:01:04] Speaker B: If you happen to find another skull on the way over, will that deter you from coming over?
Is it just any skull, or do you have to have my skull? Is it like the. The Headless Horseman just takes a head, thinking it might be his head?
[01:01:17] Speaker A: Well, in the movie, he's. He's very targeted. Because she's manipulating him because she has taken his head.
