If you think about it. [00:04:15] Speaker C: Talk about time not making sense. [00:04:17] Speaker A: How's it going out there? How's the future? Hopefully things are going really good, because it seems to be trending that way. [00:04:25] Speaker D: Definitely trending in that way. [00:04:28] Speaker A: Ten years from now, I mean, at least feel like you live in hell. Probably because it'll be so hot out. [00:04:33] Speaker C: Yeah. It is the issue where Spawn, gunslinger. [00:04:56] Speaker A: Spawn, javi, and clown have their fated dinner of death, as I've called it before. We've mentioned this issue long time ago, early episodes of the pod. [00:05:08] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:05:08] Speaker A: Because this is a really fun one and glad we're finally getting to it. [00:05:12] Speaker C: Yeah. We love a comic book eating. [00:05:16] Speaker A: We do love it when they eat. That's why we love Sam and twitch. That's why we love clown. So as an effortif we have scorched number 14, which, from what I've heard from Logan, who this is, his second issue of scorched was pretty confusing. But we'll suss it out for you. We'll suss it. [00:05:45] Speaker B: Mean, not gonna lie, it was kind. [00:05:47] Speaker C: Of confusing for me my first time, too, because it's diving into lore. I didn't know. That's. That's what Sean Lewis is bringing us. He's bringing us that he read all the issues of Spawn. So he could be like, I want. [00:06:01] Speaker B: To do something with that. And I would do something. [00:06:04] Speaker D: When I was reading through it, I was like, wait a minute. Is this a flashback? [00:06:08] Speaker B: Is this present? [00:06:09] Speaker D: Like, what's happening here? For a minute, I was like, I guess it also didn't help that I. [00:06:14] Speaker B: Read it about, like, 20 minutes after. [00:06:17] Speaker D: I woke up this morning at, like, five in the morning. [00:08:21] Speaker B: I was like, oh, man, cool. I'm a fan of the Denver airport. Denver airport. [00:08:27] Speaker D: I'm a fan of all the conspiracy theories of the Denver airport, for sure. Yeah, it is the weird murals of into the world shit going on there with dudes in gas masks and all that kind of. [00:08:40] Speaker A: It's just wild. It's one of those things where I. [00:08:43] Speaker B: Love that and it's creepy, but you. [00:08:46] Speaker A: Get down one of those YouTube rabbit holes, and you're watching one of those hour long deep dives into it, and you just freak yourself out. It's just so convincing. Oh, my God. The Denver airport's the most evil place in the know. I don't love it. Hopefully people don't think there's actually FEMA death camps located underneath the Denver airport. Like, does a knife just like stick through their hand as a defense mechanism? [00:13:57] Speaker A: We know they can't pull the knives out. It's like only he can because someone in one of the issues is like, I can't get these knives out of your was. [00:14:05] Speaker C: It's specifically clown that says, I can't get these knives. [00:14:08] Speaker B: No, that's was like. [00:14:10] Speaker C: That was, like, two issues ago. Yeah, it was the issue where he got hung up on a tree. [00:14:15] Speaker B: Right. So. Previously in gunslinger Spawn. I got a burp. Hold on. [00:14:24] Speaker A: Appropriate for clown. [00:14:28] Speaker C: You got to save that for in contact. [00:14:29] Speaker A: I'm keeping it in, and I'm doubling it. Previously in Gunslinger Spawn. Clown makes a compelling argument to the gunslinger. Help him take out spawn, and he will send Gunslinger home. Much to everyone's surprise, the gunslinger says, yes. [00:14:47] Speaker C: Oh, Johnny. He said yes. Clown must have gone to Jared. [00:14:50] Speaker A: It can only be clown. [00:14:54] Speaker B: And we open with just, like, the universe on complete blackness, the black abyss, the crushing black. Yeah, there's nothing. And then there's something. A portal. So this is your second issue of Gunslinger here that you've covered on the pod. [00:15:14] Speaker A: Logan was there in revisiting this issue. Is there any initial kind of questions going into it you had or anything. [00:15:20] Speaker B: You were wondering about? [00:15:22] Speaker C: I don't know. [00:15:22] Speaker A: I'm just trying to. That's the fun of comic books. It's in a one shot called Spawn's universe. Either that, or it's in the first issue of King Spawn, which they republished in the trade paperback for Gunslinger Spawn, it's all fun. [00:15:55] Speaker B: It's like a treasure hunt. It is. [00:15:59] Speaker D: There's straight hell portaling in here, though, it looks like. [00:16:02] Speaker A: Yeah, there's just hell portering to Omega Island. [00:16:04] Speaker B: Omega island is a big part of. [00:16:05] Speaker A: Kind of this new universe reset. It's kind of like the Death Star in a way. [00:16:11] Speaker D: It's just like clowns base. [00:16:12] Speaker A: Clowns base. Currently, there's a fissure down there. It's like the one place you can get through the dead zones into hell. [00:16:19] Speaker B: Because there's, like, a small crack which. [00:16:21] Speaker A: Actually comes into play. [00:16:22] Speaker D: What's the deal with the dead zones? Like, what, specifically is this? [00:16:26] Speaker B: Like, a portal to. [00:16:27] Speaker D: The dead zones are what sucked gunslinger through. Right. [00:16:31] Speaker B: Oh. [00:16:32] Speaker A: If we want to get into dead zones, so they start. Okay, like, dead zones. As far as our knowledge and what we've read and cover on the show. [00:16:38] Speaker B: So far starts in probably it's in. [00:16:42] Speaker A: The first compendium somewhere. So somewhere between issue one and 50, there are these areas in the alley in New York that Spawn loses his powers, and he meets this angel, Bootsy, who informs him that these are dead. [00:16:54] Speaker B: Zones that basically there's bots that can. [00:17:00] Speaker A: Use as, like, linking between heaven, hell, and all the universes, but also it. [00:17:04] Speaker B: Negates powers as well. Right, David? [00:17:08] Speaker C: Yeah, because I think it's kind of like a Superman thing, where Superman on Krypton has no power, but Superman on not his world has power. [00:17:17] Speaker B: Kazoonheit. [00:17:19] Speaker C: So since the dead zones are kind of like a heaven to hell world on earth, then their powers are nullified. So they're kind of like neutral zones. They're basically DMZs that you can use as elevators between the realms. [00:17:34] Speaker D: It's holy ground in the Highlander universe, basically. [00:17:38] Speaker A: There you go. [00:17:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:17:41] Speaker A: There's always this trope of, like, this is the area where you can fight, where you can get damage. [00:17:45] Speaker D: But does it work the same? Like, angels are also depowered there? Like, everyone. [00:17:50] Speaker B: Yeah, everyone is. [00:17:53] Speaker A: So, like, for example, in Spawn v. Batman, conveniently, Gotham City, they fight in a dead zone. Batman has a fighting chance to spawn. [00:18:01] Speaker B: Because Spawn could literally just explode him. [00:18:04] Speaker A: From the inside, rip his heart out. [00:18:05] Speaker C: And that's how spawn realizes that Batman is just a human and not the black demon that everybody's told. [00:18:12] Speaker A: Yeah, he thinks. He thinks Batman's a demon. It's pretty good. I'll let you borrow that one too. [00:18:15] Speaker B: It's pretty fun. [00:18:16] Speaker C: Yeah, definitely. [00:18:30] Speaker C: I love that the portal is all, like, light and energy, but then when they're walking through it, it's got, like, a techno ring around it, so it's formed its own little technology. Door jam. [00:18:42] Speaker A: Yeah, it's fun. Well, it's like a permanent portal he can go to because there is, like, a base on the floor there. It probably helps him. Probably helps him hone in on where he needs to zap to. [00:18:54] Speaker C: It looks kind of just like it's basically his stargate. [00:18:56] Speaker A: Stargate, man. Stargate. I love that movie when I was a kid. [00:19:00] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, dude. [00:19:01] Speaker C: Man, I've watched that movie, like, 20 times, but I still can't remember a goddamn thing in it. The only thing I remember for sure is that one of those guards with the jackal heads, they have his body on the floor, and the rings come down, and it teleports his head. [00:19:43] Speaker A: Yeah, I see it. Right? And then eventually we were old enough, my parents let us rent Stargate. I got to watch it and I was like, I thought it was like, this must be the best movie of all time because I've seen the trailer for years and curious about. [00:19:55] Speaker C: Know, the first time I watched it was after we went to see Godzilla with Matthew Broderick for my birthday in theaters. We had a sleepover and one of my friends brought Stargate. And so we watched Godzilla, then went to my house, made pizza and watched Stargate. [00:20:11] Speaker A: That's the role in Emmerich double feature. He directed both of those. [00:20:18] Speaker C: No, it's just one of my friends was like, look what I brought with me, guys. And I was like, okay, well, what? [00:20:22] Speaker A: That friend's parents were probably cinephiles and they're like, hey, take this. You do. [00:20:25] Speaker D: AII remember Godzilla? [00:20:32] Speaker B: It was like summer after fifth grade. [00:20:34] Speaker D: I feel like when Matthew Brodericks came. [00:20:36] Speaker A: Out, I think it was maybe. Yeah, fifth grade. [00:21:17] Speaker D: I remember Jean Renault just does the super elvis impersonation. He's like, oh, I remember that Elvis Presley or his. He was the king. [00:21:33] Speaker C: He brought much more to that movie. [00:21:35] Speaker D: His genre know is always good. [00:21:37] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:40] Speaker C: Making a joke about the french roast not being actual french roast. And they're like, that's what it says on the can. Okay. [00:21:47] Speaker A: Jean Renault, if he was in Spawn, I think he'd be a good cogliostro. [00:21:51] Speaker C: Oh, he would. [00:21:53] Speaker D: So I watched the movie. [00:21:55] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, that's right. Yes. Cogliostro is a former hell spawn. [00:22:00] Speaker B: That kind of. [00:22:01] Speaker D: He still has, like, the sword or whatever that he shows in the movie. [00:22:05] Speaker A: Yeah, that's mainly for the movie. He doesn't really use his powers.
