[00:00:00] Speaker A: A sacred creed has been broken, one that until now had stood since the creation of darkness itself, a rule so unholy that every creature and denizen of hell knew the passage by heart. Spawns. Do not kill. Spawns.
Good evening and welcome to the Malbolge. This is regarding Spawn, the world's best spawn podcast.
[00:00:55] Speaker B: I am your co host, John Fisher.
[00:00:58] Speaker C: And I am your co host, David Williams. And Johnny, I got a question for you.
[00:01:03] Speaker A: Lay it on me, David.
[00:01:05] Speaker C: What benefits do you get by wearing your pink pajamas in the summer when.
[00:01:11] Speaker B: It'S hot and your woolen ninety s.
[00:01:14] Speaker C: In the winter when it's not? But then sometimes in the springtime and.
[00:01:17] Speaker B: Sometimes in the fall, jumping between the.
[00:01:20] Speaker C: Sheets with nothing on at all. It seems like you would want those pink pajamas for the spring and the Fall, and then just be all natural, Al, in the summertime when it's hot.
[00:01:31] Speaker B: I don't get it.
[00:01:33] Speaker A: I don't get it either.
[00:01:34] Speaker C: I have no idea what you're talking about.
So there's an old song we used to sing in boy scouts, sung to the tomb of glory, glory hallelujah. And it's I wear my woolen ninety s in the winter. I wear my pink pajamas in the summer when it's hot. I wear my woolen ninety s in the winter when it's not. And sometimes in the springtime and sometimes in the fall, I jump right in between the Sheets with nothing on at all.
[00:01:59] Speaker A: That doesn't make no sense.
[00:02:00] Speaker C: It doesn't make no sense because spring and fall gets a little chilly. You're going to want a little something on you to keep you from getting cold. It feels like, long story short, Johnny, it's time for sleeping in the nude.
[00:02:14] Speaker A: Okay. All natural.
[00:02:17] Speaker C: A long way to get to it, man. As far as talking about even thinking.
[00:02:21] Speaker A: About these horny comics too much, you're.
[00:02:23] Speaker B: Always talking about, man. Johnny, I don't know if you know.
[00:02:28] Speaker C: This, but most comics is horny.
[00:02:29] Speaker A: I know that. They all are.
I bought a bunch of old witch woo.
[00:02:36] Speaker C: Speaking of, that's horny and thorny.
[00:02:39] Speaker A: That's horny and thorny.
[00:02:40] Speaker C: It's the horniest of the horniest literal horns.
Sometimes I feel a little weird just reading like a regular big two comic book on the train.
[00:02:51] Speaker B: It's like, this is too horny for.
[00:02:54] Speaker C: Public consumption, isn't it? Oh, yeah, look at all that.
And then I think nothing of reading local man, which has full on, full on naughtiness.
[00:03:06] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:03:09] Speaker A: That early image aesthetic was very morning.
[00:03:13] Speaker C: Yes, some current images continues that they're the publisher that had sex criminals.
The story about two people that find out that when they have sex, they can stop time.
And then they have sex with each other, and they're like, wait, you're not frozen.
And so they become a crime pair.
They are also the publisher that just.
[00:03:44] Speaker B: Had the comic sex image.
[00:03:48] Speaker C: Pretty horny, Johnny.
[00:03:49] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:03:51] Speaker A: I mean, even spawn's a little.
[00:03:55] Speaker C: A.
[00:03:55] Speaker A: Just a little tiny for a certain she spawned.
[00:04:00] Speaker C: I'm pretty sure there was a bit in here that I was going to talk about that.
[00:04:05] Speaker A: Well, might as well start getting to it and talk about what we're talking about.
[00:04:09] Speaker C: Yeah, we might as well. Johnny, what are we doing here today?
[00:04:12] Speaker B: Well, we're here regarding Spawn to talk.
[00:04:15] Speaker A: About two issues from Spawn's universe.
[00:04:19] Speaker C: Oh, very interesting. Tell me more.
[00:04:21] Speaker A: We usually cover a classic and a newer one. Right now we've got some on our classic for the main spawn. We're kind of closing that gap on that 300 that run from the big explosion from Al. So, like, from two, from the recap, was that 296?
[00:04:40] Speaker C: I think it was 297.
[00:04:42] Speaker B: 297.
[00:04:42] Speaker A: Until now. I can never remember that one number.
[00:04:44] Speaker B: It's always tough.
[00:04:46] Speaker A: So it's long and short way of saying we're at 305.
So it's hell hunt part four, as it says on the COVID I'm looking at right here.
[00:04:55] Speaker B: And then we've also got a more.
[00:04:57] Speaker A: Modern spawn 340, hell hunt. Three hundred and five s. All the.
[00:05:03] Speaker B: Way back from February 2020.
[00:05:08] Speaker C: It was good times going on in the world. Johnny, what kind of great parties and trips were you taking in February 2020?
[00:05:18] Speaker A: I remember my friend came in from out of town, and my birthday is February 27.
[00:05:23] Speaker B: We went and saw the invisible man, the one with Elizabeth Moss.
Okay.
[00:05:33] Speaker A: Which is pretty good movie.
And then we saw that. And then we were talking. He's like, yeah, I don't know if I'll be coming up for a while. They said they might be halting traveling for my work because of this coronavirus thing.
[00:05:45] Speaker B: And I was like, damn. And then that was actually even.
[00:05:49] Speaker A: Not even the last movie I saw in the theater.
[00:05:53] Speaker B: Nice.
[00:05:53] Speaker A: It was the second to last because I think it was a movie pass times. Or was it Regal Unlimited times? I can't remember. I think it was Regal Unlimited.
[00:06:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:06:03] Speaker C: Because I think movie pass stopped at the beginning of 2019.
[00:06:06] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:06:07] Speaker A: I was on Regal Unlimited, and so we were seeing everything. And so I think I saw onward.
[00:06:13] Speaker B: Was, I think the last movie I saw in theater onward.
[00:06:17] Speaker C: What is that? I don't even recognize that name.
[00:06:19] Speaker A: It's a Pixar movie. That kind of sucked.
[00:06:22] Speaker C: Oh, okay. It's the one that's Chris Pratt and Tom Hollander brothers, the trolls in the van. The van was the best part of that movie.
[00:06:31] Speaker B: Good van.
[00:06:33] Speaker A: It didn't suck.
[00:06:34] Speaker B: I know.
[00:06:35] Speaker A: It was fine. It was passable.
[00:06:36] Speaker C: Yeah, it was fine.
[00:06:37] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:06:38] Speaker C: I like an 80s van with, like, wizards and dragons and shit painted on the side. We need to bring that back, Johnny.
[00:06:46] Speaker B: Yeah, I love a cool van.
[00:06:48] Speaker C: We need to talk to that guy who had that spawn jeep and figure out where.
[00:06:52] Speaker A: I know I got to find it somewhere on Logan Square.
Logan Square, Chicago. If you're hearing this, if you have the spawn jeep or the Hummer.
[00:06:59] Speaker B: Was it a jeep or a Hummer?
[00:07:01] Speaker C: It was a jeep.
[00:07:01] Speaker B: It was a jeep.
[00:07:02] Speaker A: Hit us up.
[00:07:03] Speaker B: We'll get you on the pod. Yeah.
[00:07:06] Speaker A: And our second issue is on the other side of the pandemic. There's a whole pandemic between these two issues.
[00:07:11] Speaker C: It's a pandemic sandwich, if you will.
[00:07:13] Speaker A: It is February 2020 and then April 2023.
[00:07:17] Speaker C: With necroplasmic buns.
[00:07:20] Speaker A: Yeah, two necroplasmic buns, just like Al.
[00:07:23] Speaker C: Speaking of Horny, what's the sesame seeds on top? If the necroplasm is the buns, I guess with horny seeds on top.
[00:07:32] Speaker A: Horny seeds.
[00:07:33] Speaker C: Horny seeds. Horny.
[00:07:34] Speaker A: I'm not touching a horny seed.
[00:07:38] Speaker C: We're off the rails, Johnny. But, yeah, just like, two months ago is when 304 came out. Or 343 four.
[00:07:45] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:07:45] Speaker A: With that beautiful, beautiful mark Spears cover.
[00:07:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:07:51] Speaker C: Oh, man, it's great. Every time I look at it, I find something else to love about his covers.
[00:07:56] Speaker A: He's just like, sin's look is such a smart.
[00:07:58] Speaker B: He's such a great expression, and we.
[00:08:04] Speaker C: Can talk more about it when we get there, but he has such a punchable face on this cover, and it's perfect.
[00:08:12] Speaker A: Look how cool I am. Yeah, it's awesome. But that's our second issue. We're getting ahead of ourselves.
[00:08:18] Speaker B: Yes, we are.
[00:08:19] Speaker A: So let's get behind ourselves and go all the way back to February 2020.
[00:08:25] Speaker C: You got to put your behind in the past.
[00:08:28] Speaker A: John Fisher was watching the Invisible man.
[00:08:31] Speaker C: That was a remake of the Kevin Bacon movie from, like, 2001, right?
[00:08:35] Speaker A: It wasn't a remake of Hollow. That's Hollow man.
[00:08:38] Speaker C: Hollow man.
[00:08:41] Speaker B: Oh, man.
[00:08:43] Speaker C: Speaking of Horny, isn't that the only reason anybody went to that? Because he was a perv in the shower?
[00:08:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:49] Speaker A: And you saw his junk too.
[00:08:52] Speaker B: You see, both.
[00:08:55] Speaker A: I had a soft spot for Spawn in February 2020, but never would I.
[00:08:59] Speaker B: Have if someone was like, you're going.
[00:09:01] Speaker A: To have a spawn podcast in two or three years.
[00:09:04] Speaker B: I'd be like, what?
[00:09:05] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:09:06] Speaker B: Yeah, right?
[00:09:07] Speaker C: I had definitely, around that point, I'm pretty sure had purchased both of the humble bundles I have, and just been like, oh, man, I forgot how cool Spawn is. And then just kind of, like, coasted on it until you got into it.
[00:09:19] Speaker B: And then we're like, hey, David, David, David.
[00:09:23] Speaker C: Hey, David. The greatest king spawn did it. King Spawn, man. Johnny, I think that technically means you are now the king's pawn.
[00:09:33] Speaker A: I am the king's pawn.
[00:09:34] Speaker B: Raven.
[00:09:34] Speaker A: Spawn is going to come make fun of me.
[00:09:38] Speaker C: He's got to shoot a raven down your throat.
[00:09:41] Speaker A: So spawn on this cover of 305 is looking real. Speaking of thorny and horny.
[00:09:46] Speaker C: Oh, yeah.
[00:09:47] Speaker B: Jeez.
[00:09:47] Speaker C: He's got him coming out everywhere.
[00:09:48] Speaker A: His buns are covered up, though.
[00:09:50] Speaker B: Sorry, David.
[00:09:52] Speaker C: I'll just use my imagination.
[00:09:54] Speaker A: Sometimes that's even sexier.
[00:09:56] Speaker C: I recently watched a movie where somebody was like, I'd like to go back to my imagination now. And they were reading a comic book on the couch. So every time I sit down to read a comic book now, I'm like, I'm going to my imagination.
[00:10:09] Speaker A: Yeah, he's crouched down. And you always say it's kind of reminiscent of the origins collection.
[00:10:15] Speaker B: This one's a little.
[00:10:17] Speaker C: It's an off kilter version of the origins trade Dressing, because usually the rectangle is right in the middle in the background, and here it's shifted just to the left a little bit. So it's a little disconcerting, if you will.
[00:10:31] Speaker A: And this is a Mattina cover.
[00:10:34] Speaker B: Francesco Mattina, always doing classy, classy work.
[00:10:39] Speaker A: But, yeah, this is the a cover.
[00:10:41] Speaker B: And it says Hellhunt part four.
[00:10:44] Speaker A: There is a Todd father cover. That is a real close up of medieval's face.
[00:10:49] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:10:51] Speaker C: The image says that he did two covers, and I think one was in color and one was in black and white.
[00:11:00] Speaker B: Yeah, you're correct, because here in the.
[00:11:03] Speaker C: Back of my aftermath trade paperback, there's a two page spread where it's the black and white and then the color.
It's a great cover, man.
[00:11:13] Speaker A: Yeah, it's this, too. I'm looking at cover price right now.
[00:11:16] Speaker B: And it's a black and white and a color.
[00:11:19] Speaker A: And there's also a Jason Sean Alexander cover, however appropriate.
[00:11:23] Speaker C: I also have, there's a two page spread here with the Jason Sean Alexander's from 305.
There's a black and white and a color.
[00:11:33] Speaker A: How could you possibly have all these at once?
[00:11:36] Speaker C: Learn the trade paperback. I told you.
[00:11:38] Speaker A: You did.
[00:11:38] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:11:39] Speaker A: I could remember if you said you're reading trade paperback.
[00:11:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:11:43] Speaker C: Spawn aftermath.
[00:11:44] Speaker B: The one with the.
[00:11:46] Speaker C: Where's the numbers it covers.
[00:11:49] Speaker A: Tell me the numbers. I know that's what you're reading. I didn't know if you said it this episode.
[00:11:53] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:11:54] Speaker C: No, I'm trying to find the numbers for readers.
Remember, covers 302 to 307.
With the COVID gallery in the back.
[00:12:04] Speaker B: So that's awesome. It's the aftermath. Yeah.
[00:12:08] Speaker A: It's the aftermath, yeah. Jason Sean Alexander cover is really cool. And it's very appropriate. Because, as we'll find out in the spawning grounds. This is actually the last of his multi year run on spawn.
[00:12:20] Speaker C: I don't know about that, because I don't have the spawning grounds.
[00:12:24] Speaker B: I'm sorry, David.
[00:12:25] Speaker A: Luckily, you have me. That's why you need friends that have different versions.
[00:12:28] Speaker C: If for no other reason, you need friends. So that way they can fill you in on your spawn gaps.
[00:12:33] Speaker A: That's the only reason to have friends.
Just because I'm here and I'm looking at it. Because it's a cover price. I just want to say $17 right here. Boom.
[00:12:46] Speaker C: Nice. $17 for the copy you have or for the Jason Sean Alexander cover?
[00:12:51] Speaker B: For the copy I have. Oh, nice.
[00:12:54] Speaker C: Which copy do you have? Do you have the matina?
[00:12:56] Speaker B: I have the a. Yeah. Nice.
[00:12:59] Speaker A: This is bought in that bundle I bought off of eBay.
[00:13:03] Speaker C: I just keep coming back to this medieval that the Todd father did. And I love the little spawn emblem that's on his forehead. Has big old Kirby rams horns. And just has so many teeth.
[00:13:19] Speaker B: Yeah, looks cool.
[00:13:21] Speaker C: I think it's the best spawn emblem yet.
[00:13:24] Speaker B: Best one yet, yeah.
[00:13:26] Speaker C: Because they don't typically have mouths.
[00:13:30] Speaker B: And this one is just like.
[00:13:32] Speaker C: It looks like a Sarlacc pit. It's so great.
[00:13:37] Speaker A: It does.
[00:13:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:13:41] Speaker C: So who's writing if Jason Sean Alexander's drawing Johnny.
[00:13:46] Speaker A: Tod McFarland's writing.
[00:13:48] Speaker C: Oh, hell, yeah. That's real good.
[00:13:49] Speaker B: That's real good.
[00:13:50] Speaker A: So Tod McFarlane's writing, you can also tell by the issue. So many words and so much, like.
[00:13:56] Speaker B: Decrees that opening quote.
[00:14:01] Speaker A: That's from this issue.
[00:14:01] Speaker B: Or it's just like, since the beginning of darkness.
[00:14:05] Speaker A: No spawn has ever killed another spawn. It's like, really? Okay, cool.
[00:14:09] Speaker C: I'm pretty sure I've seen Spawn kill some other spawns, but, you know, that's just.
[00:14:14] Speaker B: Or have we. Well, later.
[00:14:16] Speaker A: Have we at this point? No, not really.
[00:14:18] Speaker C: You're the one who's further up on the ye oldie backlog. Have you seen Spawn kill anybody?
[00:14:24] Speaker A: He hasn't yet.
[00:14:25] Speaker B: Okay, but that's also back because that's at the time.
[00:14:30] Speaker A: There's only one spawn.
[00:14:31] Speaker C: Yeah, I was about to say that was back when it was one spawn at a time. Except for the army of spawns.
[00:14:36] Speaker B: That then doesn't come back for, like.
[00:14:39] Speaker C: Ever until 1997 in the movie when there is an army of Spawns in hell.
[00:14:46] Speaker A: So weird that he doesn't use that.
[00:14:50] Speaker B: I don't know.
[00:14:52] Speaker A: But they use it in the movie.
[00:14:54] Speaker C: I don't know, Johnny.
[00:14:55] Speaker B: I don't know.
[00:14:56] Speaker A: It's iconic. It's iconic.
[00:14:57] Speaker B: I don't know. All I can say is that since.
[00:15:01] Speaker C: It'S in the past and in the back matter of the back matter, I think that's the wrong term. Since it's in Spawn's history, we can probably look forward to either Sean Lewis or Rory McConville pulling it out at some point.
[00:15:17] Speaker A: It's true. Well, what I imagine is, after that issue that Alan Moore wrote, while I let him go crazy, he was like, I feel like Todd McFarlane or, sorry.
[00:15:26] Speaker B: The Todd father would want spawn to be special.
[00:15:29] Speaker A: Still, at that time, it was only issue eight.
[00:15:31] Speaker B: Yeah. And I feel like if you have.
[00:15:33] Speaker A: An army of spawns, it makes them less special.
[00:15:35] Speaker B: Yeah, probably also, I'm sure we've kind.
[00:15:42] Speaker C: Of poked at it a little bit when we were there, that there maybe wasn't, like, a grand design for where the story was going at that point. But I think maybe the toddfather had at least some bullet points that he wanted to hit that necessitated spawn remaining by himself.
[00:16:01] Speaker B: Right.
[00:16:02] Speaker A: And he also just kind of.
[00:16:04] Speaker B: They wave the hand away where he.
[00:16:06] Speaker A: Gets to keep whatever he wants to from that. And he does keep some things like he keeps the term fleabiac, I believe.
[00:16:10] Speaker B: Is coined in there. He keeps the brothers, but definitely he.
[00:16:15] Speaker C: Doesn'T keep the ice shrimp.
[00:16:16] Speaker B: And come on, we need the ice shrimp.
[00:16:19] Speaker A: But he gets away because they can kind of wave it away because at the end he's like, I had some crazy dreams, but just keep what he wants.
[00:16:27] Speaker C: An artwork, a talking artwork.
[00:16:30] Speaker A: That'll be our first issue back.
[00:16:32] Speaker B: Oh, man.
[00:16:32] Speaker C: No, we already covered that one, didn't we?
[00:16:34] Speaker A: Oh, we.
[00:16:34] Speaker B: Yeah, we did.
[00:16:35] Speaker C: Yeah, because we talked about Dave Sims bragging about being super rich by going to Leafs games.
[00:16:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:43] Speaker A: No, I'm saying our first one back.
[00:16:44] Speaker B: Will be the one where he wakes up.
[00:16:48] Speaker C: No, because that was eleven. And isn't that the Frank Miller one with Byron TM?
[00:16:55] Speaker A: No, he wakes up after all the guest spots.
[00:16:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:59] Speaker C: So twelve but he's woken up and said a talking Arvark. He says that in eleven.
[00:17:04] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, a talking Arvark.
[00:17:07] Speaker A: We'll find out.
[00:17:08] Speaker C: This has been spawn history, spawn history.
[00:17:12] Speaker A: And spawn memories in the history of February 2020. Though, to continue through these credits, Jason, Sean Alexander and Todd McFarland did art in this.
[00:17:26] Speaker C: Yeah, most definitely.
[00:17:28] Speaker B: And we got plot.
[00:17:30] Speaker A: Tod McFarland and John Goff.
[00:17:32] Speaker C: No, lazy Tod McFarland in this.
[00:17:34] Speaker A: Yeah, take that. Rob Weefeld. When's the last time you did some interior pages?
[00:17:39] Speaker C: I think he's currently doing a new book.
[00:17:41] Speaker A: Shit.
Tom Orzachowski on lettering.
Peter Steigerwald on colors.
Additional art and colors. Philip Tan and Sonny go. And we covered the covers.
[00:17:58] Speaker B: Yeah, we did.
[00:17:59] Speaker A: Like a good cover artist does. Yeah, we covered them like Richard Cheese, baby.
[00:18:06] Speaker C: Okay, question for you, Johnny.
Who's the editor? Who's the editor for this one? Is Thomas Healy joined yet, or is.
[00:18:13] Speaker A: It still John Goff? Still goff. Okay.
[00:18:18] Speaker B: Oh, are you psychic for the first.
[00:18:21] Speaker A: Time in this issue? This is crazy. That's weird that you asked that, because right underneath it says publishing coordinator Thomas Healy.
[00:18:29] Speaker C: Oh, so you're saying our buddy Thomas Healy worked his way up from we're going to next, we're going to learn that he cleaned the bathrooms for the spawn office first. And he worked his way up through there. That would be awesome.
[00:18:43] Speaker A: All the way from the mail room. I tell you, the mail room, man.
[00:18:48] Speaker C: I really wish they still had a mail room, because every time I get mail at work, nobody knows where it's supposed to go. And it always arrives, like, three months late because somebody's just like, oh, shit, there's a box in the basement with mail in it we were supposed to pick up.
[00:19:02] Speaker A: Oh, boy.
[00:19:03] Speaker B: Yeah. Do us a mail room.
[00:19:06] Speaker C: A little insight into David's brain here. After I interviewed my place of employment, I went home and I wrote a thank you for letting me have this opportunity to be interviewed letter and mailed it the same day.
It did not show up until six months later, after I was already working there.
[00:19:24] Speaker B: And they were like, oh, I guess.
[00:19:26] Speaker C: It'S a good thing we chose you anyway.
[00:19:29] Speaker A: That's hilarious.
It's like back the future where he mails the letter to himself.
[00:19:36] Speaker C: Marty.
[00:19:39] Speaker A: So previously in Spawn.
As Eddie Frank is hunted by violent agents of the afterlife. In a small North Dakota town, Spawn and his allies work to track all the powerful anomalies that have appeared across the globe. Meanwhile, medieval spawn arrives in North Dakota, and Eddie's troubles have only just begun.
[00:20:02] Speaker C: He's only just begun.
[00:20:06] Speaker A: Evil never wins when Batman begins.
[00:20:09] Speaker B: Yeah, that was the tagline for the toy line, not for the movie.
Little.
[00:20:18] Speaker C: That's a little on the nose. Especially for Christopher Nolan.
[00:20:21] Speaker B: Yeah, Christopher Nolan wouldn't be.
[00:20:25] Speaker C: While I often decry Christopher Nolan for.
[00:20:29] Speaker B: Being more obvious than subtle, Subtle was.
[00:20:35] Speaker C: The word I was trying to say there.
[00:20:36] Speaker A: He's definitely a maximalist filmmaker.
[00:20:38] Speaker C: That's definitely way more obvious than he would ever dare go.
[00:20:46] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:20:46] Speaker A: I feel like his movies don't really have taglines. Just like the tagline is a.
[00:20:55] Speaker C: That's a.
[00:20:55] Speaker B: That's a decent style.
[00:20:57] Speaker A: Well, much like the snowy scene in.
[00:20:59] Speaker B: Inception, we open on a snowy North Dakota town.
Yes.
[00:21:05] Speaker A: And just the Todd father. So he's going to break down this town with numbers, miles, and how close it is to the canadian border.
[00:21:14] Speaker C: I feel like we can just using this blurb, can just find where west hope North Dakota is and go there.
We don't need a map.
[00:21:25] Speaker A: He would look up. He'd be like, I wonder where this west hope North Dakota is. Let me see. Like, if he's reading a comic book.
[00:21:31] Speaker B: He looks up where the places are.
[00:21:33] Speaker C: It's like he had a particularly difficult page to ink that he just needed to rest his mind a little bit. And he was.
[00:21:42] Speaker B: Where's.
[00:21:42] Speaker C: Where's a place that's really close to Canada that I could set a story? And just like, that way.
[00:21:48] Speaker A: Canada.
[00:21:51] Speaker B: Yeah. We open on this town, we get.
[00:21:54] Speaker A: All the stats on it, and its obscurity has just been shattered on a national level.
[00:21:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:59] Speaker A: It's 20 minutes after those gunmen shot down all those kids at the Christmas tree.
[00:22:04] Speaker C: It's been quiet for 175 years, Johnny.
[00:22:08] Speaker B: Damn, what a run. What a run. And now it's not quiet because you got medieval holding the sword right to Eddie's face. Holding the sword.
[00:22:17] Speaker A: Yeah, right to Eddie's throat.
[00:22:18] Speaker B: Hold him against a wall, man.
And then some heaven gunmen appear.
[00:22:26] Speaker A: Which is confusing to me because didn't heaven send medieval?
[00:22:30] Speaker B: Yes. Oh, but they're going to shoot Eddie, huh?
[00:22:32] Speaker C: Yeah, they're going to shoot Eddie.
So medieval was the backup for the angels, because the angels, if you remember, they done messed up when they killed a whole bunch of innocents instead of hitting their target. And so they were like, we need to sense this man from the big poppy. Big poppy. The pope came out and was like, you need to go do this. Right, big Popey.
[00:23:01] Speaker B: Damn it.
[00:23:01] Speaker A: And then you turn the page and boom.
[00:23:04] Speaker B: Boom.
[00:23:04] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:23:05] Speaker A: Awesome, awesome page of Jessica jumping in there, kicking the guy in the face.
[00:23:09] Speaker B: Kicking his teeth out.
[00:23:11] Speaker C: And spawn just like, doing backup, just being like, I'll be back here just doing all the work.
[00:23:18] Speaker B: Guns.
[00:23:19] Speaker C: She's shooting that dude in the stomach and kicking this dude's teeth out. She doesn't give a damn about anything, johnny.
[00:23:27] Speaker A: She shoots the dude, and she's shooting the other dude at the same time.
[00:23:31] Speaker C: Yeah. And Spawn's just back there like, I got these.
[00:23:38] Speaker A: And Spawn's like, get them before they change.
[00:23:40] Speaker B: This other guy who she kicks decides.
[00:23:43] Speaker A: To change into it starts to change into this angel, and she just booms his head off.
[00:23:47] Speaker C: Yeah. Oh, man. I like this transformation scene where his eye just gets, like, real big. It's very the judge and Roger rabbit where his cartoon eyes pop out real big.
[00:24:01] Speaker A: Or like the cartoon two face from Batman, the animated series.
[00:24:05] Speaker C: Yeah.
I like how they put the little halo on top of him because he's still an angel. So he's got a halo.
[00:24:11] Speaker B: Yeah. That's funny.
[00:24:14] Speaker C: It doesn't last very long.
[00:24:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:18] Speaker C: So I know it was unintentional with this panel where it's Jessica's torso and then the next panel has her legs.
[00:24:26] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:27] Speaker C: But they kind of squish together, and so it looks like she's really it.
[00:24:34] Speaker B: I love, I like there's a little.
[00:24:36] Speaker C: Bit of an echo here that will come back in gunslinger where it's his transformation happens in seconds while the removal of the angel's head is even faster. So it's very much like that. Javi and Jessica, I show you mine, you show me yoursing.
[00:24:53] Speaker B: And what was that issue, nine or ten? 910. Yeah, nine or ten. Yeah.
[00:25:04] Speaker C: Spawn just comes in, guns blazing toward medieval.
[00:25:10] Speaker A: Yeah, he's dual wielding like a game.
[00:25:14] Speaker C: And the classic, they just bounce off.
[00:25:16] Speaker B: Ding ding ding.
[00:25:17] Speaker A: Yeah, that's hilarious.
I like that. Jason Sean Alexander has a certain amount of humor to some of his art. You don't get with Carlo Barberry, which is their different styles and the comic books at a very different place now.
[00:25:29] Speaker B: Than it is here.
[00:25:30] Speaker A: I mean, the Todd father, I think you have to have a little bit.
[00:25:32] Speaker B: Of that humor with his writing.
[00:25:34] Speaker C: It's a little more necessary for Jason to build in more visual humor gags than it is for Carlo because Carlos style is much more bright and sort of traditional comic bookie, whereas Alexander's is so dark.
It's like that one issue we covered that one issue, it was like evil dead rise, where it's like you need that little pepper of a laugh to release.
[00:26:09] Speaker B: Right.
[00:26:10] Speaker C: Release yourself a little.
[00:26:11] Speaker B: We got a little ting ting ting.
[00:26:13] Speaker A: That's hilarious.
[00:26:16] Speaker C: And then medieval slashes at him with his big old sword.
[00:26:20] Speaker B: Because, hey, you know what?
[00:26:22] Speaker C: He's been looking for this Al Simmons guy, Johnny.
It says, his quest may finally be over.
[00:26:30] Speaker A: Jessica, on the next page, goes and grabs Eddie, who's looking very taylor esque. Right here.
[00:26:36] Speaker C: Yeah, she just, like, backpacks him. Just, like, throws him on her.
[00:26:41] Speaker A: What's your goddamn name? Just say your name to me. She's like, I don't have time for this shit.
[00:26:50] Speaker C: He's 160 pound millennial.
[00:26:52] Speaker A: Johnny isn't much of a test.
[00:26:54] Speaker B: Does that make Jessica's a gen xer that fits.
Yeah, she's probably Gen X. Yeah.
[00:27:08] Speaker A: She's what, right now?
[00:27:09] Speaker B: Like 50.
[00:27:13] Speaker C: 40 something?
[00:27:14] Speaker B: 40?
[00:27:15] Speaker C: I would say maybe early 40s. Based on the story in the back.
[00:27:19] Speaker B: Of Spawn's universe number one, I would say maybe early forty s.
And then.
[00:27:28] Speaker A: Spawn and medieval are just going at it. He punches him in the face.
[00:27:33] Speaker C: Spawn grabs medieval by the cape and smashes him into the wall.
[00:27:38] Speaker A: Smash.
[00:27:40] Speaker C: It's like he's questioning whether it is a spawn. Because he's not sure why he's fighting what appears to be another spawn.
[00:27:47] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:27:48] Speaker C: Is this armor clad spawn an enemy?
[00:27:51] Speaker A: We take for granted that it took so long for them to bring other spawns together.
[00:27:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:27:56] Speaker C: We have an embarrassment of spawn riches right now.
[00:27:59] Speaker B: We do.
[00:28:00] Speaker C: I like that. A helicopter comes by and sees them.
[00:28:05] Speaker B: Fighting in this alley. It's just like, okay.
They're going at it.
It's really cool.
[00:28:14] Speaker A: Like, red and black and white. Like, it just is. Like the shadows fighting in the alley. It's really cool.
[00:28:19] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah.
It's mostly just, like Cape with occasional fist.
[00:28:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
So cool.
[00:28:27] Speaker C: And then medieval knocks Al Simmons down. And then raises his sword up to give him a death blow.
[00:28:36] Speaker B: Right.
[00:28:39] Speaker C: Al just falls into a shadow blast.
[00:28:44] Speaker A: It's one of the things they say in hell. One of the rules. Never let a spawn near a shadow.
[00:28:50] Speaker B: Zoink.
[00:28:52] Speaker C: And then very cartoony when they come out the other end of the shadow owl's on the ground. And medieval has overshot.
[00:29:02] Speaker A: And just like, he's like the thing where you stand behind a friend and the other friend pushes you over them.
[00:29:08] Speaker B: Yeah. You tripped him. Yeah.
[00:29:11] Speaker C: And he just soared all the way into the ground. Up to the hilt.
[00:29:17] Speaker A: Like, just right in the. Yeah.
[00:29:18] Speaker B: Yeah.
Why are you doing this?
[00:29:22] Speaker A: We're spawns, not enemies.
[00:29:24] Speaker C: Oh, man, Johnny, we're spawns, not enemies.
[00:29:28] Speaker A: Yeah, you're a spawn. You're not an enemy.
[00:29:30] Speaker C: I'm going to have to start introducing when we meet new people. Be like, this is my spawn, John. Spawn.
[00:29:35] Speaker A: John this is my spawn, John. This is my spawn, David.
[00:29:39] Speaker C: But Spawn is wasting his breath, Johnny. Medieval won't relent if we know anything about medieval. Regardless of if this is the same iteration of medieval or not.
[00:29:49] Speaker B: He don't give up.
No, he does not.
[00:29:54] Speaker C: He's in it to win it.
[00:29:58] Speaker A: This angel walking through the snowy woods. Man, I got to go. I got to go play Diablo four.
Sorry. Seeing, like, a zombie demon thing.
[00:30:07] Speaker B: I got to go. Yeah.
[00:30:10] Speaker C: He's just walking through the snow, leaving a trail of blood. And then I like how he's on one side of a tree, and then it's just like. And he transforms as he passes by the tree.
[00:30:21] Speaker B: Yeah, so good.
It's so good. And then he sneak attacks Jessica, gives.
[00:30:29] Speaker A: Her a couple slashes.
[00:30:31] Speaker B: Slashes.
[00:30:32] Speaker A: And Jessica, he's got, like, a cool, like, gim with El Toro kind of design.
[00:30:36] Speaker B: Yeah. On his gauntlet. Yeah.
[00:30:40] Speaker C: I actually think those are just vines that are wrapping around his forearm.
[00:30:43] Speaker A: Vines?
[00:30:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:30:44] Speaker C: Jessica tells Eddie to go save himself.
[00:30:47] Speaker A: And then Eddie just decides to change.
[00:30:50] Speaker C: He just bursts into some green light.
[00:30:52] Speaker B: Oh, man. And he becomes the redeemer man.
[00:30:57] Speaker C: No, he's reaper now, isn't he?
[00:31:00] Speaker B: Oh, shit.
[00:31:02] Speaker A: The reaper.
It's called Redeemer. And then now he's.
[00:31:08] Speaker C: He's been replaced by Reaper.
[00:31:10] Speaker B: I'm surprised there was no callback to that one issue. Oh, where he pulls him in the.
[00:31:16] Speaker A: Shadow and changes where he pulls him.
[00:31:17] Speaker C: Into the shadow and changes him.
[00:31:18] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:31:19] Speaker C: Man, Reaper's axe is awesome.
Look at that.
[00:31:23] Speaker B: Cool.
[00:31:25] Speaker C: We bring it up a lot, but that is totally an anime axe.
[00:31:30] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:31:31] Speaker A: I mean, or, like, a final fantasy character, for sure.
[00:31:34] Speaker C: Or, like, what is it? Silent hill dude with the pyramid heads.
[00:31:39] Speaker A: Or there's that guy with the big axe.
[00:31:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
Oh, man.
[00:31:44] Speaker A: And then he just unleashes, like, zappy eye.
[00:31:48] Speaker C: He just. He just cyclopses him right through the gut. Oh, man.
[00:31:53] Speaker B: It just explodes.
[00:31:54] Speaker A: The forest.
[00:31:55] Speaker C: Heaven shudders at the sight of its angels killing one of their own with such fury.
[00:31:59] Speaker A: I like how he scares Jessica. What was that? I didn't mean to scare you.
[00:32:03] Speaker C: I do like this. After he blasts the angel, there's this.
[00:32:06] Speaker B: Quiet panel where it's just reaper in.
[00:32:10] Speaker C: The middle of a whole bunch of trees that have been stumped.
It's a great little beat, and I'm so glad that Alexander put that in there.
[00:32:20] Speaker A: He's talking about how these angels, these heaven people are unrelenting.
[00:32:25] Speaker B: He knows them.
He's lived with them.
[00:32:28] Speaker A: And then we cut back to spawn evil.
[00:32:31] Speaker B: Still going at it. Oh, you forgot the part where it.
[00:32:34] Speaker C: Says, so God's a thief.
[00:32:36] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, God's a thief.
[00:32:37] Speaker C: That's insane.
That's also the bonk panel. I was going to talk about moving.
[00:32:44] Speaker A: On like a good under boob.
[00:32:47] Speaker C: Like goo.
[00:32:48] Speaker B: Holy man.
[00:32:49] Speaker C: That is physics defying almost.
You got to have hellpower for that kind of quality under boob, Johnny.
[00:32:57] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:32:58] Speaker C: That's what we've learned from this issue.
[00:33:00] Speaker B: So they're fighting. Yep. Spawn talked to the sword, basically turned into Mojinr.
[00:33:07] Speaker C: I was about to say they're doing the classic action film fighting for the gun, only it's a sword in the.
[00:33:15] Speaker B: Ground, and spawn stuck it in the ground. And then, Johnny, I just realized something.
What?
[00:33:24] Speaker C: What is currently going on in Spawn's.
[00:33:26] Speaker B: Universe, particularly your favorite title in king.
[00:33:31] Speaker C: Spawn, and what happens in the Disney animated classic sword in the stone?
[00:33:40] Speaker A: He pulls the sword out of the stone.
[00:33:42] Speaker B: And what does he do after he.
[00:33:44] Speaker C: Pulls the sword out of the stone?
[00:33:45] Speaker B: Becomes king.
[00:33:46] Speaker C: He becomes king. We have here a symbolic beginning of Al Simmons becoming the king by removing the sword. Like, even the presentation that he's got. He's got it in the classic sort of King Arthur removing pose. He's not just removing it for use. Yeah, he's making a show of it.
[00:34:06] Speaker B: No, you're right.
[00:34:06] Speaker A: This is planting those seeds.
[00:34:08] Speaker B: Very kingly. Yeah.
[00:34:11] Speaker C: I'm assuming it was an oversight on the Todd father and Jason. Sean Alexander's part, that there was no little fat owl that just, like, floats in and starts cracking wise.
[00:34:24] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, of course.
Merlin's like, a drunk or something.
[00:34:30] Speaker C: Oh, man. Oh, archimedes. But we know who Merlin was, Johnny.
[00:34:35] Speaker B: Jesus. We do.
[00:34:36] Speaker C: We do. No, you sent me the pictures from the compendium you were reading. We know to go by the name of Merlin Cogliostro.
[00:34:47] Speaker B: Yeah, he had many names.
[00:34:50] Speaker A: Man, that was a wild few issues.
[00:34:58] Speaker B: What?
[00:34:59] Speaker C: I'm continually astounded to learn what we don't know.
[00:35:04] Speaker A: Yep, that's the journey.
[00:35:05] Speaker C: There's so much in this series, Johnny. It's so good, but yeah. So then, immediately after performing the ritual of becoming king in the manner of.
[00:35:17] Speaker B: King Arthur, spawn does what kings are known for. Yeah.
[00:35:23] Speaker C: And lops medieval's head straight from his.
[00:35:27] Speaker B: Shoulders clean off like a dandelion head.
[00:35:30] Speaker C: It just goes, WHOOP. Al knows that there's no kill like overkill. So after he chops the head off, he just smashes the sword right into the body's chest.
[00:35:43] Speaker A: Don't you mean overt kill?
[00:35:46] Speaker B: Yeah. No, you mean overkill.
[00:35:49] Speaker C: Did I say it in hushed enough tones, Johnny.
[00:35:51] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:35:52] Speaker A: You don't want him to hear.
[00:35:53] Speaker B: He might overt kill you.
[00:35:56] Speaker C: I don't think he would recognize the difference. Between somebody lightly mocking him. Or actually just using the original phrase. So maybe I should be more careful.
[00:36:08] Speaker B: He'll come and get you.
[00:36:10] Speaker C: He's not the brightest bulb in the crayon box.
[00:36:14] Speaker B: He's really not.
[00:36:16] Speaker A: We get our three heroes, Spawn, reaper, and Jessica. Overlooking dead medieval. And we get our opening quote about how this is the first time. That the rule has been broken. Everyone knows the passage by heart. Spawns do not kill spawns. Not really that hard to learn by.
[00:36:33] Speaker B: Heart, I will say.
[00:36:34] Speaker A: You don't talk about fight club, David. You don't kill Spawn.
[00:36:40] Speaker C: His name was medieval.
[00:36:43] Speaker A: His name was.
So that's. I guess that answers our question. Because I was like, so is this the original medieval spawn? And how does he become the helmet? So they take the helmet back, obviously. And this is how that becomes a thing.
[00:36:57] Speaker C: Well, they take the whole body back.
[00:37:00] Speaker B: Whole body.
[00:37:00] Speaker C: The head and the body.
[00:37:01] Speaker B: They take the head and the body.
[00:37:02] Speaker A: Back to Tod McFarlane's pen.
[00:37:09] Speaker C: Not only do they go to Todd McFarland's pencil. But they also go to Al Simmons'safe house. Where he has imprisoned Mark.
[00:37:18] Speaker A: He's imprisoned to be a comic book man in the chair.
[00:37:21] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:37:22] Speaker B: Oh, man.
[00:37:23] Speaker C: The little necro star, where they show up in. And the first thing Al Simmons does upon returning to the lair. Is Mark, give ready a table.
[00:37:33] Speaker A: Jessica does her classic. That's it?
[00:37:35] Speaker C: That's all you've got to say? People are dead because of you.
[00:37:38] Speaker A: So he's going to get Mark to analyze what's left of medieval spawn here. You get a really good spawn face there.
[00:37:44] Speaker C: Yeah, it's a real good one. Mark's like, is it as bad as. Is this as bad as they said it was? It's worse.
[00:37:52] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:37:52] Speaker A: Jessica's just like, yo, he pissed off a whole fucking.
[00:37:59] Speaker C: Mark. Mark is always the voice of reason. We'll argue about that later.
Who's this new guy? What's the pile of debris?
[00:38:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:07] Speaker C: Okay. Reaper is with them. I was about to say, okay.
And then Al tells Mark to watch a movie that I haven't seen. He says, analyze this.
Okay.
[00:38:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:25] Speaker A: I don't think.
Gotta love it.
[00:38:29] Speaker C: And then probably invariably says, and analyze.
[00:38:32] Speaker A: That and analyze everything.
[00:38:36] Speaker C: Those are.
[00:38:40] Speaker A: Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal.
[00:38:44] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:38:45] Speaker C: Billy Crystal.
[00:38:46] Speaker B: You know, some.
[00:38:49] Speaker C: Some award show hijinks aside. Funny man.
[00:38:53] Speaker A: Yeah, funny man. Yeah.
[00:38:55] Speaker B: Big fan.
[00:38:57] Speaker A: Like when he does Sammy Davis, Jr. A lot.
[00:39:01] Speaker C: That was the live show hijinks that I was trying to put aside.
[00:39:06] Speaker A: Hey, don't even worry about it. The oscars, like, show clips of that.
[00:39:09] Speaker B: They let him do it. Yeah. Oh, boy.
[00:39:13] Speaker C: Then there's also Ted Danson, who went in blackface to a party while he was dating Whoopi Goldberg.
That means that Whoopi Goldberg signed off on that. And it's like, oh, man, the 90s were a wild time.
[00:39:27] Speaker B: Johnny, that's a sticky wicket. Oh, man.
[00:39:30] Speaker C: The stickiest of wickets, spawn looking classic.
[00:39:34] Speaker A: The McFarland spawns.
[00:39:36] Speaker B: Holding up the head. Yeah, he's got the sword and the head so good.
[00:39:43] Speaker A: I want to know what's in here. If I create a bunch of Frankenstein spawns, I want to know.
[00:39:49] Speaker C: And then. Hey, Johnny.
[00:39:51] Speaker B: Hey, Johnny.
[00:39:52] Speaker C: On this page, I have in my trade paperback, a little bit of an error. Do you have any error on this page?
[00:40:00] Speaker B: So I've looked at your page.
[00:40:03] Speaker A: Mine has the bottom right one, but it doesn't have the one coming out of spawn. So it's just someone off. Yeah, it's just like someone else says that.
[00:40:10] Speaker B: So, yeah.
[00:40:10] Speaker C: In the bottom panel on mine, it's got reaper and spawns.
Their word bubbles are doubled and in random spots.
[00:40:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:40:25] Speaker C: His weapon, use it to your advantage. Turn their power against them. His weapon, use it to your advantage. Turn their power against them.
[00:40:32] Speaker A: This one doesn't have that, but I think what they were probably trying to do was move, because the speech bubble that's supposed to be coming from spawn isn't coming from spawn. Yeah, it's like coming from off screen.
[00:40:45] Speaker C: I assume they tried to move it, and then they'd think they didn't move it, but they accidentally copied it and.
[00:40:51] Speaker B: Then buried it in a layer, and.
[00:40:54] Speaker C: Then when it printed, it moved that.
[00:40:56] Speaker B: Layer up to the top.
Yeah, man.
[00:41:00] Speaker C: Tricky, tricky stuff.
[00:41:02] Speaker A: And then we get over three minutes, over three of them, we get a Todd father time.
Todd father time.
[00:41:12] Speaker C: He just scoops the decapitated head out of the helmet. Oh, man, that's gross. I like how it flashes to the outside, and there's just, like, a bison hanging out with a wolf or a deer. That's a deer.
[00:41:23] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. It's out in the middle of nowhere.
[00:41:26] Speaker C: Did you ever go to Woolarok for field trips as a.
Do you remember. Do you remember the trash can they had that was shaped like a bison, and it had a vacuum on it, so you just put trash in front of its mouth, and it sucked it up.
[00:41:41] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. His name was Boffo. His name was Boffo the buffalo.
[00:41:45] Speaker C: How many soda cans do you think people have offered to real life bison because of that trash can?
[00:41:53] Speaker A: I feed bison soda cans all the time.
[00:41:55] Speaker C: Man, oh, man, Woolarok was so fun.
[00:41:58] Speaker B: My favorite part about.
[00:41:59] Speaker C: My favorite part. Guess what my favorite part about Woolrock was?
[00:42:02] Speaker B: Johnny Buffalo.
[00:42:03] Speaker A: The buffalo eating your.
[00:42:05] Speaker C: No, no.
[00:42:06] Speaker B: It was in the, um. I don't know.
[00:42:10] Speaker C: It was the shrunken heads.
[00:42:12] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, they did.
[00:42:13] Speaker C: They had shrunken heads. For those who didn't grow up in Oklahoma, Woollerock was a nature preserve and.
[00:42:23] Speaker B: Museum that was founded by, I forget.
[00:42:29] Speaker C: His first name, but Mr. Phillips, the.
[00:42:31] Speaker B: Guy of Phillips Oil, he was lived.
[00:42:36] Speaker C: And based in, his company was based in Oklahoma. So like, any sort of cultural landmark in Oklahoma is more than likely originally endowed by the Phillips company because unlike a lot of tycoons, after he got all of his, well, I guess kind of like the Rockefellers, where he just had so much money, he was finally.
[00:43:03] Speaker B: Like, I have to give some of.
[00:43:05] Speaker C: This back to the people. Maybe not because he wanted to, because there was nothing else to do with it.
[00:43:11] Speaker B: Sure. Yeah.
[00:43:13] Speaker C: And for people who are of the Boy Scouts inclination, he is also the man who owned the land that became Philmont, which is a massive, massive undeveloped bit of mountain land in New Mexico, Simaron, New Mexico, to be exact.
[00:43:33] Speaker B: That is just a massive camp.
[00:43:36] Speaker C: So you go and you hike for 14 days and it's amazing.
[00:43:39] Speaker A: So these last two pages is this.
[00:43:42] Speaker B: Philip tan because it said additional art.
[00:43:45] Speaker A: And it looks different.
[00:43:46] Speaker C: Yeah, I would say probably so, because it's definitely not Jason Sean Alexander.
[00:43:51] Speaker A: And it doesn't look like the Tod father.
[00:43:53] Speaker C: It doesn't look like the Tod father. It looks definitely inspired by the Todd father, but it's definitely not the Tod father. It's pretty goopy too.
[00:44:00] Speaker B: Oh, man.
Oh, yeah, he's got a goopy head. He's going to put this in a container also. I love this.
[00:44:06] Speaker A: Don't gaslight me.
[00:44:11] Speaker C: So spawn's trying to move the head to a place where they can save it, and its eyes light up. And then suddenly a liquid abyss engulfs spawn.
[00:44:19] Speaker B: Before he can react, all the goop.
[00:44:21] Speaker A: From the head forms like a thing that's sucking him in.
[00:44:24] Speaker C: Yeah. What follows will be a nightmare like nothing he can imagine.
[00:44:29] Speaker A: And mine says next, a dark vision of the future.
[00:44:32] Speaker C: Mine says, a dark vision of a dark future.
[00:44:35] Speaker A: Oh, that's what mine says too.
[00:44:37] Speaker C: Okay. Dang it.
[00:44:38] Speaker B: All right, now. Yeah.
[00:44:43] Speaker C: I don't get a necroplasmic count.
[00:44:46] Speaker B: I don't have one either.
[00:44:48] Speaker C: So that's the end.
[00:44:49] Speaker B: Of Hellhunt.
[00:44:50] Speaker C: That's the end of Jason sons Alexander's run on Spawn.
[00:44:54] Speaker A: We know that because I have the spawning grounds here.
And it's a letter basically from Tod. Just about how he basically says.
He was originally thinking, I'd like to get someone like Jason Sean Alexander. Because he does that gothic horror style. And then he was like, why don't.
[00:45:12] Speaker B: Just get him nice?
[00:45:14] Speaker A: And he thought he'd maybe do a miniseries, maybe a few issues.
[00:45:17] Speaker B: But he did it in a multi.
[00:45:19] Speaker A: Year run on a monthly comic book.
[00:45:21] Speaker B: Nice. So he did 276 to 305.
Man.
[00:45:29] Speaker C: That'S a pretty good run. It's a couple of years at least.
[00:45:32] Speaker B: And he gives him a big thank you.
[00:45:34] Speaker A: Has a little couple of his favorite covers of his.
And then there's another spawning next page, it says. But the marathon continues.
And it's pictures of pencil covers of 306 and 307.
[00:45:49] Speaker B: Teasing our new character that's going to.
[00:45:53] Speaker A: Be coming in 306. Because that's the really hard raptor, I believe his name is. Because that's the hard to find one.
[00:45:59] Speaker B: Because it's a first appearance, literally, on.
[00:46:02] Speaker C: The COVID is he not?
[00:46:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:05] Speaker A: So there's, like, a preview of pencils of 306.
[00:46:08] Speaker B: 307 covers by Philip Tan.
And then we get the ads for.
[00:46:15] Speaker A: All the trade paperbacks. And ad for Philadelphia, issue three.
[00:46:19] Speaker C: Nice.
[00:46:21] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:21] Speaker A: And that's the end of Jason Sean Alexander's run.
[00:46:23] Speaker B: And great run.
[00:46:25] Speaker A: I'm excited. We'll get back to those earlier issues eventually. But I loved seeing his stuff.
[00:46:30] Speaker B: And he was perfect for this kind of really epic, really epic era of spawn.
Yeah.
[00:46:41] Speaker C: And that's spawn three oh five.
[00:47:05] Speaker A: So next up, we have spawn 340. And boom. We already were talking about it.
[00:47:11] Speaker B: We couldn't wait to get to it.
[00:47:12] Speaker A: We got that mark Spears cover with our man.
[00:47:15] Speaker B: Well, not our man, the man.
[00:47:19] Speaker A: Amen.
[00:47:20] Speaker C: Amen, coglios.
[00:47:21] Speaker A: I love Cogli. Cogliostro. Hurt me, man.
[00:47:24] Speaker B: Let's talk about that. Yeah.
[00:47:26] Speaker C: Fucking original Cogliostro. Just drinking that strawberry ripple and rat alley.
[00:47:33] Speaker A: See you later.
[00:47:36] Speaker C: Just being like, nobody's here. I'm taking this booze to go.
Yeah.
[00:47:42] Speaker A: His big hat.
[00:47:43] Speaker B: He's hanging out with Sam and twitch.
[00:47:46] Speaker A: Now he's just a big jerk.
[00:47:48] Speaker C: It just, like, shows up in the backseat of the car.
[00:47:52] Speaker A: He's like, turn left here. And there's, like, french fries lying around.
[00:47:57] Speaker B: Oh, man.
[00:47:59] Speaker A: But now he's just some big power hungry jerk.
[00:48:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:48:03] Speaker A: And he's looking real smug on this cover.
[00:48:06] Speaker C: His forehead veins are just, like, fit to burst.
[00:48:13] Speaker B: In. All his glory and.
[00:48:15] Speaker A: All his glory and horror.
[00:48:17] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:48:17] Speaker A: He's just kind of like the Ben Linus character. I guess you didn't watch lost, but Ben Linus is a character that just.
[00:48:24] Speaker B: Always was kind of smarmy and always wanted to just more power. Yeah.
[00:48:30] Speaker A: And you kind of liked him, but.
[00:48:31] Speaker B: He was also pretty bad and threw everyone.
[00:48:35] Speaker A: He wasn't necessarily evil. He just threw everyone under the bus.
[00:48:37] Speaker B: To get what he's pretty close to.
[00:48:41] Speaker C: Would. I would say that sounds very much like cog my notes here, Johnny. They say that Mark Spears isn't the only cover for this issue, though.
[00:48:50] Speaker B: That's true.
[00:48:51] Speaker A: There's another one.
[00:48:52] Speaker B: Kabar did a cover, and it's spawn.
[00:48:58] Speaker A: It looks like an animation cell.
[00:49:01] Speaker B: Yeah, it does. And he's, like, flying through the city or just flying through a void.
[00:49:08] Speaker C: He's backlit. It's like he's trying to make shadow puppets.
He's like, we need a spawn.
[00:49:18] Speaker B: You need a spawn signal.
He wouldn't answer, though.
[00:49:22] Speaker A: He'd be pissed.
[00:49:24] Speaker C: It would be like the opening of Batman begins, where he's just sitting and brooding in his chair, and then he would notice the signal and then just ignore it.
[00:49:33] Speaker A: Batman returns.
[00:49:36] Speaker C: What did I say?
[00:49:37] Speaker A: Begins.
[00:49:38] Speaker C: Begins, damn it. I meant to say returns.
[00:49:40] Speaker A: I got begins. You got begins on the brain, man. Small would show up, and he'd go, you called me.
[00:49:46] Speaker B: Why?
[00:49:47] Speaker A: I have stuff I have to do. He'd, like, yell at you.
[00:49:49] Speaker C: He'd be even more of a jerk about it than Batman, is what you're saying. How is that possible?
[00:49:55] Speaker A: You think your problems are worth me? I'm fighting a war. You're like, oh, God damn it. Okay, sorry.
[00:50:01] Speaker C: He would make more of a production of leaving, though, because classically, Batman just, like, flips out while Jim Gordon is talking about other stuff.
You got to watch me while I disappear.
[00:50:15] Speaker A: It's probably really loud when he goes, like, boom. When he goes, bam. It's probably, like, really loud.
[00:50:19] Speaker B: It's like, sound being sucked out.
Spawn 340 is written script plot by Rory McConville.
[00:50:29] Speaker A: Additional script by Todd McFarland.
[00:50:30] Speaker B: Yes, indeed.
[00:50:31] Speaker A: We got our main man that we were just talking about. Carlo Barberi on art.
[00:50:36] Speaker B: J. David Ramos on colors, Tom Worstzhachowski on lettering.
[00:50:42] Speaker C: Hell, yeah.
We already covered the COVID artists covered the covers.
[00:50:46] Speaker A: And then Thomas Healy's got his job up from publishing coordinator, and Todd McFarland's the creative director.
[00:50:54] Speaker C: Yeah, he directs the creativity.
[00:50:57] Speaker B: Johnny.
[00:50:58] Speaker A: He sure does. There's a lot of creativity in this issue.
[00:51:02] Speaker C: It's also world record breaking comic. Johnny.
[00:51:05] Speaker B: He didn't lie.
[00:51:07] Speaker C: He followed through on his threats to just put it on each one, because.
[00:51:12] Speaker A: He said if he was feeling sassy, he'd put it on there.
[00:51:15] Speaker C: Maybe someday we can do, like, a retrospective and see kind of how, if we can, a sassy index.
Because maybe sometimes he doesn't put it. Maybe sometimes he does.
[00:51:29] Speaker A: And it's like, I don't feel sassy this week.
[00:51:31] Speaker C: Todfather wasn't feeling sassy then.
[00:51:35] Speaker A: So previously in Spawn.
Spawn and Han infiltrate heaven and are shocked by what they discover. Meanwhile, Uruzin begins to assemble his horsemen.
What?
[00:51:48] Speaker C: That was in scorched. Yeah.
[00:51:50] Speaker A: That's not true.
[00:51:52] Speaker B: Yeah, but I mean, okay, Spawn and hot infiltrated heaven. Yes, because that happened.
[00:52:00] Speaker C: They beat up Mr. Stuck in the dead zones, man.
[00:52:04] Speaker B: But the other thing that happened in.
[00:52:06] Speaker A: Spawn was the cockroach line, not Urzin.
[00:52:09] Speaker B: Yeah, whatever.
[00:52:13] Speaker C: It's fine.
They'll fix it in post Johnny.
[00:52:17] Speaker A: Maybe that means there's going to be some kind of colliding of Urzin and everything if they're getting their streams crossed.
[00:52:22] Speaker B: I mean, I would assume that.
[00:52:25] Speaker C: Isn't that kind of the point of all the titles is that they can just go.
Instead of just sitting there and smashing action figures together, the Todd father can sit there and just be playing with issues of comic book, like their toys and smashing them together, basically. And then voila, you have a crossover event.
[00:52:47] Speaker A: Yeah, they're due for one. I'm sure they'll do a big one at some point.
[00:52:50] Speaker C: Yeah, it'll be great.
[00:52:51] Speaker B: It'll be great. I can't wait.
[00:52:54] Speaker C: I like the technique that this opens with. It opens on panume.
Just an angel in heaven right now. He looks like he's a shell shocked little soldier.
Penemiu.
[00:53:12] Speaker A: Is it Penemu or Penume?
[00:53:15] Speaker C: I would say panume.
[00:53:16] Speaker B: I don't know.
[00:53:18] Speaker C: Why don't we get Rory McConville up on the horn and call him?
[00:53:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:53:22] Speaker A: How do you save his angel?
[00:53:26] Speaker C: It's got, like, his lineage. He came from a long, proud bloodline of warriors.
His father slew the heb dragon, Johnny. Both of his sisters fought during the burning night.
This is a pedigree. If he were a dog, he would have, like, a stack of papers from registering him with the.
[00:53:48] Speaker A: Just. He's like a dog. He's like a dog on a leash.
[00:53:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:53:52] Speaker C: And he's just standing back, watching while haunt and spawn just murderize this group of angels.
Because if you remember in the last issue, they were just, like, standing on.
[00:54:04] Speaker B: A.
[00:54:07] Speaker C: Star wars landing platform in the city planet of Coruscant, and then just a phalanx of angels blacked out the sky and now they're all being made dead.
[00:54:20] Speaker A: I'm saying he's a dog on a leash because he enlisted right when the dead zones close.
[00:54:25] Speaker C: Yeah, but then once he's just been stuck. Yeah, he's like somebody who enlisted in, like, 1944 and was like, yeah, I'm not going to be sent over there. And then got sent over anyway. Or at the end of World War II and then got roped into going to Korea.
That's a better analogy.
[00:54:44] Speaker B: He wants to fight, though, but not right now.
[00:54:48] Speaker C: He's frozen. He's stuck still.
[00:54:50] Speaker B: Yeah, he's scared.
[00:54:51] Speaker A: He's just like, seeing this chaos in front of him. Then he's like, I'm getting out of here.
[00:54:54] Speaker C: It's the moment that he can prove his metal, Johnny. And he decides his metal is liquid, like the t 1000, and.
[00:55:05] Speaker B: Goes away.
[00:55:06] Speaker A: Shunked in the ankle.
[00:55:08] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:55:08] Speaker A: That would hurt so bad, man.
[00:55:10] Speaker B: Yeah, just like right through it.
[00:55:12] Speaker C: And then Al sends his chain through.
[00:55:14] Speaker A: His ankle, like, loops him in and pulls him down.
[00:55:17] Speaker B: Oh, man.
[00:55:19] Speaker C: Nothing can prepare you for a battle with a hellspawn, though, Johnny, especially this particular hellspawn.
[00:55:24] Speaker B: And he's like, you either help us.
[00:55:26] Speaker A: Find a weapon in the antidote or I'll kill you.
[00:55:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:55:29] Speaker C: And I like how Skeets is there for some reason.
Do you know who Skeets is? So the DC character booster Gold is a man from the future who's just a loser. And he's like a security guard at a museum dedicated to the greatest superheroes of the world.
[00:55:54] Speaker B: And in it is the suit for.
[00:55:58] Speaker C: A man named Booster Gold, who was a great superhero. But his suit also has, like, a little drone companion and has the ability to travel. And so he steals the suit and he's like, I'm going to be a superhero now. And then he somehow gets thrown back in time.
I don't remember how it happens, but he intentionally is like, I'm going to go back in time and become, like, the greatest superhero ever.
And so he's just a doofus. And Skeets, the little drone is the actual hero.
Booster gold just, just shows up for a photo op.
[00:56:35] Speaker B: Yeah, you got a little skeets here.
[00:56:37] Speaker C: Skeets.
[00:56:38] Speaker B: Skeets.
[00:56:39] Speaker A: Someone's watching them.
[00:56:41] Speaker C: Yeah, he always feels like somebody's watching him.
[00:56:48] Speaker B: And we cut.
[00:56:49] Speaker C: He's got no privacy, Johnny.
[00:56:51] Speaker B: No privacy. We cut to hell, to the Tower.
[00:56:54] Speaker C: Of Wrath, not the tower of power. That would be in San Francisco.
[00:57:00] Speaker A: I can take about an hour on the tower of power.
[00:57:05] Speaker C: As long as I get a little golden shower.
[00:57:07] Speaker A: Golden shower good old Frank Zappa. Oh, God.
[00:57:12] Speaker C: Oh, God. I'm so fantastic, Johnny.
[00:57:15] Speaker B: Oh, man.
[00:57:15] Speaker A: That's a crazy song. You know, it's like a huge hit in mean.
[00:57:20] Speaker C: Frank Zappa was the fucking man.
[00:57:24] Speaker B: Yeah, he's the man.
[00:57:26] Speaker C: He's great.
If you were part of his band and you didn't have the chops, he would chew you up and spit you out.
[00:57:37] Speaker B: No, I said there's a lot of.
[00:57:38] Speaker A: Demons being chewed up and spit out right here.
[00:57:40] Speaker C: Yeah, they sure are.
I like that one in the background that it's a torso with just, like, guts hanging out of it.
[00:57:47] Speaker B: Yeah, his fleacs are fun. Yeah, he got, like, face heads.
[00:57:53] Speaker A: They got, like, head faces.
[00:57:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:57:55] Speaker C: But this is.
[00:57:57] Speaker B: Whoa, whoa.
[00:57:58] Speaker C: This is. What's his name? Barabbas. Not Barabbas. Barnabas. Not Barnabas.
[00:58:03] Speaker B: Barbados. Barbados.
[00:58:06] Speaker A: Barbados.
[00:58:07] Speaker C: So this is Barbados explaining what's happened since sin's been gone.
[00:58:14] Speaker A: And because the dead zones were closed, there wasn't really an enemy for them to rally against. So they kind of all infot for many, many.
[00:58:22] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. And so it was just like sort of a perpetual cycle of. Nobody really was king of the hill.
And then a dude named Lord Dialon Gale stepped up and was able to overtake most of the armies. And then he created the cataclysm to ensure his future on the throne of hell.
[00:58:48] Speaker B: But, Johnny, if you are maybe kind of a weak person and you think.
[00:58:56] Speaker C: You have control over a very strong willed being that you've created.
[00:59:01] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:59:02] Speaker C: You ain't going to be in control very long. So cataclysm just straight up murks his master and then becomes the de facto leader of hell.
[00:59:13] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:59:14] Speaker C: I still. Scene of cataclysm just like dangling his dead body over a field of cheering demons.
[00:59:22] Speaker A: Yeah, nice little background there on cataclysm.
[00:59:25] Speaker B: He's a little bastard.
[00:59:28] Speaker C: I like his little loincloth skirt thing has that big. It's got like a mongolian fur belt.
[00:59:39] Speaker A: Yeah, he's funny.
[00:59:41] Speaker C: It doesn't seem like the mountains of hell would be cold enough to require that.
[00:59:45] Speaker B: But I guess it's all about the style, David.
[00:59:49] Speaker C: Yeah, it looks dope.
[00:59:52] Speaker B: So it's allowed.
And then we get a little bit.
[00:59:58] Speaker C: Of insight from Cogliostro here about how cataclysm's power are from obsidia, not necroplasm.
[01:00:04] Speaker A: You know, he's a necroplasm man. Yeah, it's like propane versus charcoal. He's like Hank Hill and loves the necroplasm.
[01:00:13] Speaker C: I was about to say it's like back when you had the Marlboro versus camel people, right? But that's not so much relevant anymore. Coke versus Pepsi might be closer.
[01:00:25] Speaker B: Coke versus Pepsi.
[01:00:27] Speaker A: Well, I prefer obsidian.
[01:00:30] Speaker B: Obsidian.
[01:00:31] Speaker A: So he's talking to Barbados, and he's.
[01:00:34] Speaker B: Just, like, wheeling, dealing, talking about how.
[01:00:36] Speaker A: Many soldiers he got. That's not enough. And he's like, well, if you don't have that many, no one will join you.
[01:00:41] Speaker C: Yeah, he's trying to strong arm him here.
You got to do something for me, or I won't get you the small amount of men you need to then recruit other people to your cause.
Kind of Game of Thrones y here, and it's level of politician.
[01:00:58] Speaker A: So then we go back to heaven.
[01:00:59] Speaker B: Where our boys are chilling just like.
[01:01:02] Speaker A: On top of this tower, waiting for some news. They sent Kurt his recon.
[01:01:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:01:06] Speaker C: Like how spawn's got a pair of binoculars.
[01:01:10] Speaker B: That's hilarious.
[01:01:11] Speaker A: Yeah, he's got him his belt.
[01:01:13] Speaker C: Yeah. They got to be in one of those pouches.
[01:01:15] Speaker B: I mean, now we know we always want in the pouches.
[01:01:19] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:01:20] Speaker A: And Kurt found a route they can take. He said there's some security, but they.
[01:01:24] Speaker B: Should be able to do it.
And so they do it.
[01:01:27] Speaker C: Yeah, they just bum rush the place.
[01:01:31] Speaker B: They're going in.
[01:01:32] Speaker C: They're doing the sneaking in and quietly taking out employees one by one until they get to the door they have to get through.
[01:01:42] Speaker B: That's got sentries on it.
[01:01:45] Speaker A: It's also doing that fun thing that you're Wanda's favorite thing, where it's a heist movie, and it explains what they're doing and shows it at the same time where they're like, here's what we'll do. But then it just shows you as they do it.
[01:01:58] Speaker C: I still don't know what happened in oceans eleven, Johnny.
I've seen it three times, and I'm still confused. It's like when I was little, not knowing where the padme and the padme and the Yamadala, not knowing which one was which.
I still don't know which one is which in oceans eleven.
[01:02:21] Speaker A: The money or the sex worker flyers.
[01:02:24] Speaker B: Yeah, it actually doesn't make sense if.
[01:02:27] Speaker A: You think about it, but it's a fun movie.
[01:02:29] Speaker B: Yeah, but you know what I mean.
[01:02:31] Speaker A: Where it's like, we're going to do this, we're going to do this. But it's also showing you as they do it.
[01:02:35] Speaker C: Yeah, and haunts just, like, comes down out of the rafters and clobbers the security guards. I like how they've got the two little stars, like.
[01:02:49] Speaker A: They'Re knocked out.
[01:02:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:02:52] Speaker C: But they got this one doctor scientist guy that they've got his mouth gagged with chains, and they drag him into.
[01:03:00] Speaker B: A room full of.
[01:03:01] Speaker C: It's like an armory. And Spawn's like, if you were going to kill me, which of these would you use? And they point out, yeah, it's like a gun called the divine judgment. It totally looks like a nerf gun.
And divine judgment is totally the name that nerf would have given a gun in the.
[01:03:21] Speaker B: Think I see a noisy cricket.
[01:03:24] Speaker C: Feel like I'm going to break this damn thing.
[01:03:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:03:26] Speaker B: So then he asked him about the.
[01:03:28] Speaker A: Antidotes, and those aren't in this building. So Hans, of course, pissed off.
[01:03:32] Speaker C: Yeah. Your antidotes in another castle.
[01:03:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:03:36] Speaker A: Your antidotes in another funky building.
[01:03:39] Speaker B: So they're all arguing, which is a mistake, because then comes an angel with a gun. Yeah, he's got a little calm link.
[01:03:50] Speaker C: Tells control to send back up to his location immediately.
[01:03:53] Speaker A: But then haunt just, like, fits him.
[01:03:56] Speaker B: Fits fit.
[01:03:57] Speaker C: Yeah, haunt's like, man, I'm feeling some shishkabov, y'all.
[01:04:02] Speaker B: He just shoots out those little haunt ropes and just, like, just poke guy. Skewers him.
[01:04:09] Speaker C: Skewers him like, he turns him into a reverse hedgehog. It's crazy.
So cool.
[01:04:14] Speaker B: And then the scientist does my favorite text. Speech bubble, Johnny.
[01:04:24] Speaker C: The speech bubble of exclamation mark.
Then he pulls a crazy ass sword off the wall and starts to just.
[01:04:34] Speaker B: Throws himself at Al Simmons, who.
Well.
[01:04:41] Speaker C: Another connection between these issues, Johnny. Al Simmons does a decapitation.
[01:04:46] Speaker A: Yeah, near the end of the comic, he decapitates the dude.
[01:04:49] Speaker C: Yeah, he decapitates this dude with his chain, man.
Can you imagine?
[01:04:56] Speaker A: And then we cut from that eye in the sky. We're assuming this is who was watching them.
[01:05:01] Speaker B: Yeah, you've got this angel guy with his helmet off who's just telling this guy named Rapture that they're here and what they've been up to.
[01:05:14] Speaker A: Rapture looks like a big, evil angel.
[01:05:18] Speaker B: Got, like, a loki helmet on. He looks really happy to be killing.
[01:05:22] Speaker A: These people, to be getting spawned and hot.
[01:05:24] Speaker C: He says that means we've already won.
And he's like, dispatch teams to each of the dead zone sites. Tell them this is a priority one initiative.
We now know what that means. But, man, why would he be so happy to be not putting teams of angels on Spawn and moving them away?
[01:05:51] Speaker B: I don't know.
[01:05:54] Speaker C: He's got a little bit of a crazy in his eyes too.
[01:05:59] Speaker B: He's got that manic excitement that.
[01:06:04] Speaker C: It's a little spooky.
[01:06:05] Speaker B: It's a little spooky.
[01:06:07] Speaker A: Han's a little pissed. They're hanging in this dead zone cave, and they're pissed.
[01:06:11] Speaker C: I like the little green.
Their little green orb of light in the cave.
[01:06:16] Speaker B: Yeah. Swan just, like, made an orb. Yeah.
[01:06:23] Speaker C: In the middle of yelling at Spawn for, like, you fucked this up. Where's the shit? He just starts to convulse. And then after Spawn is out or haunt is out on the ground, we get a new guy who just comes up.
[01:06:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Some angry guy.
[01:06:40] Speaker C: Some angry guy.
He's got, like, some pseudo sin armor.
[01:06:45] Speaker B: Going on here, and he wants to.
[01:06:47] Speaker A: Know who's responsible for trapping me in this cesspool.
[01:06:51] Speaker C: Yeah, he kind of looks a little bit like apocalypse.
[01:06:54] Speaker B: It's just, like, a fancier a. Yeah, a little bit.
[01:06:59] Speaker C: Yeah.
I'm loving this sort of crazy, wild, decadent, super comic bookie style that Carlo Barberi is bringing on everybody. All of these outfits look awesome.
He doesn't care about sort of the practical things aren't designed to be practical. They're just designed to look awesome.
[01:07:33] Speaker B: And it's great.
[01:07:36] Speaker A: Well, it's cool because there's all these.
[01:07:39] Speaker B: This book right now has become.
[01:07:40] Speaker A: These battle between these godlike characters is what Spawn is at the moment, and he does a really good job of representing those.
[01:07:46] Speaker C: It's not apocalypse that he looks like. I'm doing some real time correcting on myself.
Who is that man?
[01:07:53] Speaker B: Who is that man?
[01:07:54] Speaker A: I don't know him.
[01:07:56] Speaker B: I'll just be wrong.
[01:07:57] Speaker C: No, Mr. Sinister. That's who he looks like. He looks more like Mr. Sinister than he does like apocalypse. Because Mr. Sinister's got the. Got the cape made of just, like, ribbons.
It's like he's put streamers on his shoulders.
Like, he went to party city and.
[01:08:16] Speaker B: Was just like, this creepy paper. I want that.
[01:08:19] Speaker A: Spawn's power meter. 1596.
[01:08:22] Speaker B: Yeah, not too bad. Not too bad looking.
[01:08:24] Speaker A: Okay, Spawn.
[01:08:25] Speaker B: Not great, but not bad than where.
[01:08:29] Speaker A: It was at, like, 304.
[01:08:30] Speaker B: Three five. Yeah, that's the truth, man.
[01:08:35] Speaker C: Then we got a spawning grounds.
[01:08:37] Speaker B: We got a nice little letter from.
[01:08:40] Speaker C: Brandon about how excited he was that Nick's came back.
[01:08:44] Speaker A: They brought her back.
[01:08:45] Speaker B: Very well done. Yeah.
[01:08:47] Speaker C: And then Tom Healy is just like, hell, yeah. You liked the bringing back of Nick's.
[01:08:53] Speaker A: We thought about that for a long time.
[01:08:55] Speaker B: Yeah. So it's real good.
[01:09:00] Speaker C: Bob was a lapsed reader who got back in after Batman Spawn, which was.
[01:09:05] Speaker B: A great way to get back into spawn.
[01:09:09] Speaker A: Hell, yeah, it was.
[01:09:10] Speaker C: I like how Thomas is like, hell, yeah. We're almost at 350. Wait till we get to 500.
Yeah, he's like, don't go away again.
[01:09:21] Speaker A: Stick around.
[01:09:23] Speaker C: We got some awesome figure photography here.
[01:09:28] Speaker B: With some clown action, man.
[01:09:30] Speaker A: Looks like clowns in, like, a Vegas or, like, at a theme park.
[01:09:33] Speaker C: Yeah, it's like the scene in the movie where the people at the carnival, but they've been drugged a little bit, and it's just like, there's some slowed down and out of tune calliope music going on in the background. And all of the lights have, like, tracers on them, and they don't know what's going.
Dude, here's a dude who got to meet the todfather in Canada.
[01:10:02] Speaker A: Yeah, he went to that signing.
[01:10:03] Speaker B: They did that comic shop there at a mall with his dad, the one.
[01:10:08] Speaker C: That he brought his dad to. I need the picture of the Todd father's. Toddfather.
[01:10:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:10:13] Speaker A: Where's the Todd father's father?
[01:10:15] Speaker C: I mean, I'm pretty sure. I think the Todd father put a picture of his dad on his instagram. And he's just like an old guy who's just like, hell, yeah, this is fun.
[01:10:22] Speaker A: He's like, this is the real tod father.
[01:10:26] Speaker C: It's great because it seems kind of like he's still like, I kind of don't know what my son does, but it's great.
[01:10:34] Speaker A: Yeah, he's like, okay, as long as you all like it.
[01:10:38] Speaker C: The more response universe titles advertisement that has the complete put together Mark Brooks Internet connecting covers.
[01:10:51] Speaker A: Looks great.
[01:10:52] Speaker C: It's real nice.
[01:10:52] Speaker B: It's real good.
[01:10:55] Speaker C: We got the regular advertisements for all the classics at image.
[01:10:59] Speaker B: And then the toys, man.
[01:11:03] Speaker A: Toys.
[01:11:06] Speaker B: Yeah. Pretty sweet. That's 340 bing bang boom ha chacha, as they say. That's 340 Johnny.
[01:11:18] Speaker C: I think there are too many puppies here that have gone without ratings.
[01:11:23] Speaker A: Too many.
[01:11:25] Speaker C: Too many. So I think we gotta. I think we got to correct that a little bit by rating these puppies.
[01:11:30] Speaker B: It's time to rate these puppies.
[01:11:34] Speaker A: So first up, we had spawn 305. It's the Jason Sean Alexander Todd McFarland.
[01:11:40] Speaker C: It's the 300 and fivest issue of Spawn I have ever read.
[01:11:44] Speaker A: Hell Hunt, part four.
[01:11:47] Speaker C: It's the part four hell hunt issue I've ever read.
[01:11:51] Speaker A: I put it away, but I'm busting it back out again. Just want to flip through it while I talk about it.
[01:11:55] Speaker C: You just love giving yourself extra opportunities to get that bag seal stuck on the back of the.
[01:12:02] Speaker B: Yes.
[01:12:03] Speaker A: Just screw it right up.
I really like this issue mainly because of the art.
[01:12:07] Speaker B: I thought it was really great. Yeah, it was really good art and.
[01:12:13] Speaker A: Just a lot of fun, fun fight with medieval and spawn. The spawns are coming together.
Yeah, it was a good climax to Hellhunt here.
[01:12:22] Speaker B: I would give it five for Jason Sean Alexander for the art, for his run.
[01:12:28] Speaker A: I'm going to give it five ting ting ting. Bullets off of medieval's helmet.
[01:12:33] Speaker B: Nice.
[01:12:35] Speaker C: So you try to give him praise and it just ricochets off of his.
Off of his stony disposition.
[01:12:46] Speaker A: Exactly like, no, I will not take your praise, sir.
[01:12:51] Speaker C: You will take it.
[01:12:51] Speaker B: You will take it. No, it's great issue. I loved it. Love the art. Good job.
[01:12:56] Speaker A: Jason Shawn Alexander. Great run on.
[01:13:01] Speaker C: Give it.
[01:13:01] Speaker B: I'm going to give it five as well.
[01:13:03] Speaker C: I'm going to give it five tree stumps hanging around Reaper there.
[01:13:08] Speaker B: Boom.
[01:13:10] Speaker C: I know we're already deep in the.
[01:13:12] Speaker B: Thick of it, but it's going to.
[01:13:15] Speaker C: Hurt to see Jason Sean Alexander go.
[01:13:18] Speaker B: Because being able to get on this.
[01:13:20] Speaker C: Little run that he's been, it's just a visual feast getting to see his artwork. It is so gnarly.
[01:13:32] Speaker B: And just like, if they didn't get.
[01:13:37] Speaker C: Javi Fernandez to do King Spawn, they would have been shooting themselves in the foot. Not getting Jason Sean Alexander for King Spawn.
[01:13:44] Speaker A: Yeah, he would have been a good one.
[01:13:45] Speaker C: Maybe. It maybe lacks a little bit on the story front there because it is pretty much an end. It's a part four to the hell hunt. So we get kind of an end.
[01:13:55] Speaker B: But maybe strange cadulity a little bit on its.
[01:14:00] Speaker C: But wait, there's more.
So this is purely an art. Five tree stumps.
[01:14:08] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:14:09] Speaker A: That's what pushed it over the edge for me, too. I mean, I like the action. I like seeing Jessica and Spawn fight.
[01:14:16] Speaker B: It was.
[01:14:16] Speaker C: It was a good time. If nothing else, it was a good time, Johnny. I enjoyed every second that I was here reading it.
[01:14:23] Speaker B: Absolutely.
Oh, man.
[01:14:27] Speaker A: Spawns do not kill spawns.
[01:14:29] Speaker B: No, they do not.
[01:14:30] Speaker C: So they're following the reboot planet of.
[01:14:34] Speaker B: The apes rules, I see. Yep.
[01:14:37] Speaker A: Spawn kills Spawn.
[01:14:38] Speaker C: Not killed Spawn.
[01:14:40] Speaker A: Why cookie rocket? Why Cygor rocket?
So next up, we had 340 the issue. Kind of a dual storylines of heaven and hell, where you have haunt and.
[01:14:53] Speaker B: Spawn journeying through hell, heaven and sin.
[01:14:57] Speaker A: And cataclys journeying through hell, making some wheeling and dealing.
[01:15:02] Speaker C: Yeah, it's that classic epic fantasy storytelling.
[01:15:08] Speaker B: Where you get two groups and you bounce between them.
[01:15:12] Speaker A: I'm going to give it three chains.
[01:15:15] Speaker B: To the Achilles heel, just like Spawn does.
[01:15:18] Speaker A: That angel. At the beginning, he shoots his chain.
[01:15:19] Speaker B: Right through his heel.
[01:15:21] Speaker A: So I'm gonna give it three.
[01:15:22] Speaker C: I'm gonna give it.
I can't believe this is finally happening, Johnny. I'm gonna give it three and a half stars.
[01:15:32] Speaker A: Stars.
[01:15:33] Speaker C: Oh, star. Because of the stars. Because the dude's knocked out and he's got stars around his head.
[01:15:40] Speaker B: Three and a half stars.
[01:15:41] Speaker A: There you go.
[01:15:41] Speaker C: Three and a half stars, Johnny.
[01:15:44] Speaker B: We're done.
[01:15:45] Speaker C: It's over. There's nowhere else to go.
[01:15:47] Speaker A: Finally did it.
[01:15:49] Speaker C: We did it. We pulled it off.
[01:15:52] Speaker A: Three and a half stars floating above a guy's head.
[01:15:54] Speaker C: Three and a half.
[01:15:56] Speaker B: This issue was excellent.
[01:15:57] Speaker C: The art is excellent. The writing is excellent. The bit of story in it is excellent.
[01:16:01] Speaker B: It only gets knocked down because what.
[01:16:06] Speaker C: Comes in 341 and 342 have to be rated higher than this issue.
[01:16:13] Speaker B: Yeah, it's also like the middle part.
[01:16:15] Speaker A: Of their journey too.
[01:16:19] Speaker C: As far as middle parts go. And we've covered a lot of middle parts.
[01:16:22] Speaker B: This is like Obi Wan Kenobi on.
[01:16:26] Speaker C: The high ground of middle parts.
[01:16:30] Speaker B: It's fantastic.
[01:16:34] Speaker C: But I gotta have some upward mobility for what's coming up.
The technical term for it might be some bullshit of a way of rating an issue of spawn. But that's how I feel when I read them the first time. And then when I read them the.
[01:16:56] Speaker B: Second time, I'm always calibrating my rating.
[01:17:01] Speaker C: Of them between the first reading, going back in the second reading. And then as we go through it.
[01:17:09] Speaker B: That'S what I feel.
[01:17:10] Speaker C: Three and a half stars.
[01:17:11] Speaker B: You just got to go with what you feel, man.
[01:17:14] Speaker C: Still an excellent issue, though.
[01:17:15] Speaker A: It's also just crazy to see how.
[01:17:17] Speaker B: Different the two titles of the same title can be.
[01:17:20] Speaker A: Like that earlier kind of God with much smaller story. And now it's this epic gods battling story. So it's just cool to see that evolution across three years.
[01:17:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:17:32] Speaker C: And then we get to take part on that journey.
[01:17:35] Speaker B: To see the intervening.
[01:17:37] Speaker A: Well, I got a journey I want.
[01:17:39] Speaker B: To take the listener on into the unknown.
[01:17:44] Speaker A: Oh, I know what it is.
I believe if you guys know, there.
[01:17:50] Speaker B: Was a new wave of spawn toys.
[01:17:54] Speaker A: And there was one of them that is very heavily featured in this 305. So I figured it'd be a good.
[01:18:01] Speaker B: Time to open it.
[01:18:02] Speaker A: David, I think I'm going to open my medieval spawn figure.
[01:18:06] Speaker B: What?
[01:18:08] Speaker A: Yeah, not allowed. Sorry. I'm sure you're really jealous that I get to open one and you don't.
[01:18:13] Speaker C: You can't do that, Johnny.
[01:18:15] Speaker B: Why?
[01:18:16] Speaker C: You can't do that without be a. It's gotta be a double or.
[01:18:26] Speaker B: Oh, I know. That means here. That's a double.
[01:18:29] Speaker A: Todd's toy. Talk it.
[01:18:45] Speaker C: Right.
[01:18:46] Speaker A: David got medieval as well.
[01:18:48] Speaker C: Nice. It's the only. The only one of this series I got.
[01:18:51] Speaker B: I have to be more judicious in.
[01:18:54] Speaker C: Which ones that I want to get.
[01:18:56] Speaker A: I'm just a crazy person.
[01:18:58] Speaker C: The crazy person. I guess I don't have to be more judicious.
[01:19:01] Speaker B: I just choose to be.
[01:19:03] Speaker C: I know that if I let myself, I will literally drown in spawn action figures. And so I'm trying to avoid that.
[01:19:14] Speaker A: You got to space it out, but you got to have medieval.
[01:19:16] Speaker C: I mean, you got to have medieval.
It's no secret that I love medieval spawn.
[01:19:22] Speaker B: He's great.
[01:19:25] Speaker C: He's so cool. I can't wait until we get to cover the medieval Spawn series.
Medieval spawn with Witchblade, which Johnny will be more informed for that one than I am.
[01:19:36] Speaker A: I'll be very excited for that.
[01:19:38] Speaker C: He's got that witchblade.
[01:19:40] Speaker A: Yeah, it's great package. You got the classic spawn packaging, that famous Bjorn Baron's cover there for the key art.
[01:19:49] Speaker C: I love that they are saying that we're basing all of these figures off of Bjorn Baron's art because it's fantastic.
[01:19:56] Speaker B: Do they say that?
[01:19:58] Speaker C: Well, no, it's just like, there's the Bjorn Baron's art on the back. And that's obviously the exact same figure.
[01:20:03] Speaker A: Even, like, the sword is the what they've.
[01:20:06] Speaker C: That's what they've been doing for this last couple of ones.
[01:20:09] Speaker B: Yeah, some. Pretty cool. It's really good.
[01:20:11] Speaker C: Really good.
[01:20:12] Speaker A: Well, I got my handy dandy pocket knife here.
[01:20:15] Speaker C: Yeah, I got my handy dandy pocket knife, too.
[01:20:19] Speaker A: Well, I guess you want to bust into this guy.
[01:20:21] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:20:22] Speaker A: Shaking it in front of the mic.
[01:20:23] Speaker C: Let's go at it.
[01:20:25] Speaker A: All right.
[01:20:26] Speaker C: Yeah, I'm shaking it as hard as I can. It's not going.
[01:20:32] Speaker A: Figure. He's heavy.
[01:20:33] Speaker C: Yeah. The packaging for this one's really good, too.
[01:20:37] Speaker A: Yeah. So I ordered the three pack off the McFarland store. So I got a Batman spawn action figure.
[01:20:45] Speaker C: Nice.
[01:20:46] Speaker A: Which is pretty fun.
He's got a big old cape.
[01:20:56] Speaker C: Yeah, I like how it's.
[01:20:57] Speaker A: I didn't think about that.
[01:20:58] Speaker C: Like, the cape goes through the plastic.
[01:21:02] Speaker A: Oh, man, it smells so good.
Smell that plastic.
[01:21:06] Speaker C: It does.
[01:21:09] Speaker A: All right, I'm going to switch over my pocket knife to scissor mode so I can get these.
[01:21:13] Speaker C: I'm about to do that after I get this base out there.
[01:21:16] Speaker B: These pesky little.
[01:21:18] Speaker C: These little clear rubber bands, those pescatarians.
[01:21:24] Speaker A: Yeah, these pesky pescatarians, these pesky Episcopalians.
[01:21:31] Speaker C: No shame if you're a pescatarian. I'm not going to make fun of.
[01:21:36] Speaker B: You for what you eat.
[01:21:37] Speaker C: Maybe for being an Episcopalian, but, yeah.
[01:21:41] Speaker A: No shame for being an Episcopalian. They're, like, nice Catholics.
[01:21:44] Speaker C: Yeah, I like how many denominations can be described as nice catholic or catholic light or catholic to have fun.
[01:21:54] Speaker A: All right, I'm busting them out.
[01:21:58] Speaker B: Ah.
[01:22:01] Speaker A: Did I miss one?
[01:22:03] Speaker C: No, there's. There's ones on the feet and the.
[01:22:05] Speaker A: Hands on the legs too. I didn't see the leg ones. Oh, my God. See, that's the thing. That's why I need his friends to help me tell me where to cut these to open.
[01:22:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:22:16] Speaker C: I also got to cut it off on the sword.
[01:22:19] Speaker A: There's one on the sword. Oh, my God, he is secure in there.
[01:22:23] Speaker C: Yeah, I was shaking him with all my might, and you could just barely hear him rattling around.
[01:22:32] Speaker A: 2000S were pretty packed in there too, but they had those metal, like, twisty ties.
[01:22:37] Speaker C: I got to tell you, Johnny, this figure is awesome, but I do have one problem with it.
[01:22:43] Speaker A: What?
[01:22:47] Speaker C: The shins. They should have been red with the silver of the contrast is a little off, but that's the only ding I have on this figure, Johnny.
[01:23:01] Speaker A: Yeah, it would have been better with the red and silver spikes. The one color feet are a little.
[01:23:08] Speaker C: But I'm sure that was a production consideration.
You know what?
[01:23:14] Speaker B: I'm fine with it, but, man, I.
[01:23:18] Speaker C: Fucking knocked my fingernail with that hammer getting it out, and that hurt. That's a hefty.
[01:23:26] Speaker A: Yeah, that's a hell of a hammer.
[01:23:27] Speaker C: That's a hefty hammer, man. I don't know if I'm worthy enough to hold that. I like how the face of it.
[01:23:33] Speaker B: Has the little spawn emblem on it.
[01:23:35] Speaker A: Oh, my God, that's hilarious. I didn't even know. That's, like, a stack. Use as, like, a stamp for my letters.
[01:23:40] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:23:43] Speaker A: I didn't realize these have things too. I got to cut these off.
There's one on the sword also. Oh, my God.
[01:23:50] Speaker C: There's two on the sword and two on the hammer. There's one hidden up by the head of the. Oh, I see it.
[01:23:55] Speaker A: Don't forget that one. Oh, nice.
You got a sword to get it out here.
Oh, yeah. Get this hammer in there.
He's awesome.
[01:24:07] Speaker C: Jen is getting hammered over there.
[01:24:09] Speaker B: Getting hammered at 10:00 a.m., oh, man.
[01:24:17] Speaker C: His little skirt is very flexible, so there's lots of.
Lots of movement, lots of ways you can make them.
The spikes are nice and soft so you don't accidentally stab yourself real hard on them.
[01:24:36] Speaker A: Look at Javi, man. Javi will get you.
[01:24:38] Speaker C: Oh, jeez. Javi has gotten me.
[01:24:43] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Look at these weapons.
[01:24:47] Speaker C: I like how there's runes on the sword.
[01:24:51] Speaker B: Yeah, that's pretty cool.
Nice.
[01:24:54] Speaker A: This is great. Great figure.
[01:24:56] Speaker B: Love. Medieval.
[01:24:57] Speaker C: Oh, man, I am so glad I got this. This is great.
[01:25:02] Speaker A: I'll save this for the bonk hammer. If you ever get to need a bonk on Mike, I'll bonk you with this hammer.
[01:25:08] Speaker B: Bonk.
[01:25:10] Speaker C: I was just about to hit my mic with the thing, but that would.
[01:25:14] Speaker B: Probably be unlisten to add.
[01:25:17] Speaker C: Man, the detail on this is insanity.
[01:25:23] Speaker B: Johnny, I haven't put the hammer over his shoulder. Looking good. Head doesn't come off. That's good.
[01:25:29] Speaker A: That's good.
[01:25:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:25:30] Speaker A: We want to make sure Spawn didn't decapitate him.
[01:25:32] Speaker B: You know what else looks good?
[01:25:34] Speaker A: Our friends on Instagram.
Every single one of them looks great.
[01:25:40] Speaker B: All of you are beautiful, but we.
[01:25:43] Speaker A: Can'T highlight everyone every week. We would love to. We would love to lead off every one of our 300 Instagram friends every week, but I don't think anyone would.
[01:25:49] Speaker B: Like to listen to that.
[01:25:50] Speaker C: That would be the whole podcast. It would just be Johnny and David, Instagram. Johnny and David's friends.
[01:25:56] Speaker A: But we have a friend this week.
[01:25:57] Speaker B: We wanted to highlight.
[01:25:58] Speaker C: Yeah, we did.
[01:25:59] Speaker A: Because they're featured in the spawning grounds of 340.
[01:26:02] Speaker C: Hell, yeah, they were. And unfortunately, I think it was maybe them being a little humble. They didn't submit their Instagram handle in there, so they didn't get a proper shout out. So why not take this opportunity to correct that error, Johnny?
[01:26:19] Speaker A: So how'd you figure out it was just. You saw them post it on Instagram?
[01:26:22] Speaker C: Yeah, they posted it on Instagram. They were like, oh, hey, this was me. I was in it.
[01:26:26] Speaker A: And who is this person?
[01:26:27] Speaker C: This person is devil Spawn 91. That is at DVL. Spawn 91.
[01:26:36] Speaker B: Great. Yeah.
[01:26:37] Speaker A: So doing action figure photography.
[01:26:40] Speaker B: Yeah, they are.
[01:26:42] Speaker C: Hold on.
Their about me section is absolutely bitching.
[01:26:47] Speaker B: Let me get it right, because phrasing is important.
[01:26:53] Speaker C: Only cool shicks.
[01:26:55] Speaker A: Only cool shicks.
[01:26:58] Speaker C: And so, yeah, they got action figure photography.
[01:27:01] Speaker B: They got dope ass covers of issues.
[01:27:10] Speaker C: They got a picture of a Mario lighter. That is choice.
[01:27:14] Speaker A: There's some people hanging with Javi there.
[01:27:17] Speaker C: They got some hot wheels. Oh, man, talk to me all day about hot wheels. I know fuck all about hot wheels, except for I love playing with hot wheels. I had one birthday that literally, I was like, the only thing I want is hot wheels cars. I got, like, 60 hot wheels that birthday.
[01:27:36] Speaker B: That's awesome.
[01:27:37] Speaker C: It was awesome. And I had that city carpet that we got at Sam's. And then I would just play traffic with my cars all day. I would be like, these guys are going over here. All these guys are over here. The hours spent just playing with cars.
[01:27:52] Speaker B: That's awesome.
[01:27:53] Speaker C: Awesome.
[01:27:54] Speaker B: Yeah, give him a follow.
[01:27:55] Speaker A: And while you're over there, also give T. Brian Voiler a follow.
[01:27:59] Speaker B: He does our amazing music, posting amazing food. Yeah.
[01:28:05] Speaker C: I just learned that he is a vegetarian and is posting about, you ain't got to eat meat to eat good.
It's true. I personally have tried to go vegetarian from time to time. But Wanda has told me that I am unlivable. When I don't have red meat on at least a biweekly. That's once every two weeks schedule.
[01:28:32] Speaker B: Got to have it. Yeah.
[01:28:36] Speaker C: It's nothing. Conscious. Conscious.
[01:28:39] Speaker B: It's just. I guess that's how God made you.
[01:28:42] Speaker C: It's weird.
[01:28:42] Speaker B: Yeah. But, yeah.
[01:28:43] Speaker A: Give him a follow. And give us a follow while you're.
[01:28:46] Speaker B: There at regarding spawn pod.
[01:28:49] Speaker C: You can see both of our beautiful faces regularly now.
[01:28:52] Speaker A: And you can see both of our beautiful medievals.
[01:28:55] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:28:56] Speaker A: I'm doing a Malibulge Monday segment. Where I talk about some.
[01:29:00] Speaker B: The Malibulge of pop culture.
[01:29:01] Speaker A: I'm into at the moment. Spawn related and some non spawn related. And David's posting reactions to the new issues.
[01:29:09] Speaker C: We're definitely going to have to switch those up every once in a while. Because I know for sure I'm going to have some sort of hell related stuff. I want to talk about on Malbolge Monday.
[01:29:18] Speaker A: Get in there. Yeah, we could switch it up.
[01:29:21] Speaker C: Speaking of horny, our good friend Mike Jones was like, but mail bulge Monday was right there.
[01:29:28] Speaker B: Bonk, bonk, bonk.
[01:29:31] Speaker C: Straight to jail.
[01:29:32] Speaker A: I know. I wrote it, and I was like, that looks like male bulge.
[01:29:34] Speaker B: I was like, oh, whatever. I'm going with it.
[01:29:36] Speaker A: Welcome to the Malbolge is my catchphrase.
[01:29:39] Speaker C: Oh, it's shit. What was that?
I keep seeing trailers for a documentary. About a failed cartoon movie project called Mole Star.
And they're like, it was great. It was going to be the best thing. But nobody could get over the name. Because if you write Molestar down, what does it look.
[01:30:11] Speaker A: Hilarious?
[01:30:12] Speaker C: Names are important, y'all.
I can't remember a goddamn name to save my life. That is now how I introduce people. I'm going to be like, I'm totally going to forget your name. So I'm going to ask, like, six times.
But names are important.
[01:30:27] Speaker A: Hey, as long as you're upfront about.
[01:30:28] Speaker C: It, it's the easiest way. I've known people who have been like, I've known them for three years, but I don't know their name, and I can't ask now. And it's like, well, your problem was not being honest in the first place.
[01:30:40] Speaker A: Right?
[01:30:40] Speaker C: You just got to rip that band aid off at some point. You just have to be like, listen, we've known each other for a really long time, and I don't remember your name, and I'm super sorry about it.
[01:30:52] Speaker B: You just got to be honest.
[01:30:54] Speaker C: You got to be honest. If they're upset with you and don't want to talk, you, tell you anymore because you've forgotten their name, and you were honest enough to say, hey, I.
[01:31:02] Speaker B: Forgot your name, maybe they weren't people.
[01:31:07] Speaker C: You wanted to hang out with.
[01:31:08] Speaker B: Anyway, if you want to be honest.
[01:31:10] Speaker A: Be honest with us. You can hit us up on email at. Regarding
[email protected].
[01:31:16] Speaker C: Yeah, just in case you forgot it. It's regarding
[email protected]. Did we actually say our instagram handle, johnny? Because our handle.
[01:31:26] Speaker B: Okay, I got off on a tangent.
[01:31:29] Speaker C: And, you know, oh, I thought, okay.
[01:31:31] Speaker B: Yeah, no, we said, yeah, regarding spawnpod.
[01:31:35] Speaker A: And then regarding
[email protected]. For all your questions, concerns, inquiries, let us know how we're doing. Let us know how you're doing.
[01:31:44] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:31:45] Speaker A: And every week, I like to ask a question. This week, we had the final of jason sean alexander's run.
[01:31:51] Speaker B: So I just want to put out.
[01:31:52] Speaker A: There into this spawn universe. Who is your favorite main title spawn artist? Is it tod mcfarlane? Greg capullo. Jason sean alexander. Philip tan.
[01:32:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:32:04] Speaker C: I like how you narrowed it down to main title, main title, main title, main title spawn.
[01:32:13] Speaker A: So, yeah, just curious if you want to let us know what your favorite main title spawn artist is.
[01:32:17] Speaker B: I would love to hear it. Yeah, I'd love to hear it, too. We would both.
[01:32:21] Speaker A: Anytime, too. You can answer these anytime. If you're listening to it later, we'll.
[01:32:24] Speaker B: Answer your questions and answer your mail.
[01:32:27] Speaker A: As we get it.
[01:32:29] Speaker B: I got to say, johnny, I'm 100% a Capulo dude.
Yeah, he's pretty great.
[01:32:40] Speaker C: It feels kind of like the cop out answer. Like, of course he did. How many issues? Or, like 120 or something like that.
[01:32:50] Speaker A: Something like that.
[01:32:51] Speaker C: And so it's going to be hard to beat Greg Capullo, but Jason Sean Alexander comes close. But, I mean, there's nothing like the comedy that Greg Capullo brings. Just like all the way around, everything is exaggerated and excellent.
[01:33:12] Speaker B: Yeah, it's great.
[01:33:14] Speaker A: I like Angel Medina.
He's been writing that third compendium. He's wrote a lot in that third companion I've been reading. It's pretty good.
[01:33:21] Speaker B: It's Capullo esque. Nice. So, hey, Johnny. Yeah.
[01:33:28] Speaker C: Hey, what are you doing next week?
[01:33:31] Speaker A: I think I'm going to be reading some spawn.
[01:33:33] Speaker C: You think you're reading some spawn? Well, what spawn do you think you're going to be reading? You have any ideas? You got any?
[01:33:39] Speaker A: Why don't you tell me, David? You're better at keeping track of this.
[01:33:42] Speaker C: Oh, nice. I will tell you what to read, Johnny.
[01:33:45] Speaker A: Tell me what to.
[01:33:47] Speaker C: Uh, Illinois just passed an anti book ban legislation, but I am going to ban you from reading any books but these two, Johnny, I am risking my freedom and not being in jail time for this because, well, we really appreciate it. I enjoy it too much. You, Johnny, you were going to be reading for next week. We're going to be reading two entries into Spawn's universe. Our classic next week will be king spawn number nine.
Yeah, that's the penultimate to tie up the whole king Spawn lineage. So after that, we've only got one classic king Spawn left, so we better enjoy it while it lasts. Yeah.
[01:34:33] Speaker B: And then our current issue is going.
[01:34:37] Speaker C: To be gunslinger Spawn 19.
And we get to learn how Javi got out of that scrape that he was in at the end of 18.
[01:34:49] Speaker B: We got his chest blown up.
[01:34:51] Speaker C: Also, there's something fantastic that happens at the end of the issue that we might have some strong opinions about.
[01:35:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:35:04] Speaker C: Regardless of what we feel about it, it's happened and there's no goal.
[01:35:10] Speaker B: It has happened like a shark always moving forward.
[01:35:14] Speaker C: Yeah, unless it's a nurse shark. Nurse Sharks can sit still. They can pump that water over their own gills.
[01:35:21] Speaker A: We don't want to be a nurse shark.
[01:35:22] Speaker B: We want to be moving forward. No.
[01:35:25] Speaker C: Speaking of, Johnny, do you have a favorite shark?
[01:35:29] Speaker B: Not really. Not really?
[01:35:31] Speaker A: I mean, I guess the great white or the hammerhead.
[01:35:34] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. Hammerhead is my favorite shark, mostly because you see a hammerhead from the side and it looks like an absolute dingus, but no hammerhead. Shark's favorite sharks. Also, second question of the week for the email. What's your favorite shark?
[01:35:53] Speaker A: Yeah, we got a kind of shark.
[01:35:55] Speaker C: We're going to have shark week coming up here. Before too long. Sonic is going to have shark week. Slushies.
Let's go.
[01:36:03] Speaker A: Sharks are in.
[01:36:05] Speaker B: Yeah, man. I love a shark. Love a shark.
[01:36:07] Speaker C: I've always loved a shark.
[01:36:10] Speaker B: Used to scare me, man.
[01:36:12] Speaker C: I always used to. When I was little and at the beach, every single time I was in the water, I thought I saw a shark coming after me, and I would always run out screaming and be like, oh, yeah.
[01:36:26] Speaker A: After I saw jaws, I was scared of a shark at the swimming pool.
[01:36:29] Speaker B: Like, it didn't, man. Yeah. Oh, man.
[01:36:33] Speaker C: So, yeah, that's what we got for next week, Johnny.
[01:36:35] Speaker B: We're going to be reading some spawn, and it's going to be great.
[01:36:38] Speaker C: I think that just leaves me to.
[01:36:39] Speaker B: Say, johnny, may the scorched be with you.
And also with you, David. Hell, yeah. Hell, yeah. Hell, yeah.
Oh, man. Well, really excited to get this medieval figure. Yeah.
[01:36:56] Speaker C: Well, luckily he came with a hammer because I got to go to work.
I told some people I'd help him do some carpentry work, so.
[01:37:05] Speaker B: Got my hammer. I'm going to go do that.
[01:37:11] Speaker A: It's a sturdy hammer toy. You could probably really use it as a hammer. I'm happy for you. I'm glad you got this.
[01:37:15] Speaker C: Yeah, no, all the other guys at the site are going to be so jealous.
They're going to want to borrow it, and I'm going to be like, nah, I'm never going to give it back.
[01:37:24] Speaker B: If I give it to you.
[01:37:25] Speaker A: Yeah, it's got the spawn emblem on it.
[01:37:27] Speaker B: Yeah, that totally means you'll be able.
[01:37:31] Speaker C: To see in the wood. When I've missed the nail.
[01:37:35] Speaker A: You just see the spawn face all around the nail.
[01:37:38] Speaker C: Somebody's going to move into their house. They're going to be like, what is this?
I dig it.
[01:37:45] Speaker A: Who put all these venoms on my wall? And David comes in and goes, it's not venom.
[01:37:53] Speaker C: They were created by the same man.
