[00:00:00] Speaker A: More than anything, I wanted to live a normal life. No killing, no powers, and no enemies trying to hunt me down. Just a simple, boring existence where I could focus and take care of my little girl. But Al Simmons warned me that once we were in this life, there was no going back. Good evening and welcome to the Malibols. This is regarding Spawn, the world's best Spawn podcast. I am your co host, John Fisher. [00:01:00] Speaker B: And I am your co host, David Williams. And Johnny. [00:01:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:01:05] Speaker B: So much depends upon a red real barrel glazed with rainwater beside the white chickens. [00:01:13] Speaker A: Ooh, is that a. Is that the whole poem? [00:01:15] Speaker B: That's the whole poem. William Coyles Williams. I guess I have two poems memorized. [00:01:19] Speaker A: Okay. Happy National Poetry Month. It's still April. [00:01:22] Speaker B: It's still April. I was going through a whole stack of. I got a stack of them that I was looking through and I've forgotten how horny poetry is. Johnny. [00:01:32] Speaker A: Yeah, well, guess what, David, I got one for you here. [00:01:35] Speaker B: Ooh. [00:01:37] Speaker A: There's a whisper down the line at 11:39 when the nightmare's ready to depart saying Skimble. Where is Skimble? Has he gone to hunt the thimble? We must find him where the train can't start. That's from Skimble. I'm not gonna read the whole fucking thing. But that's Skimbleshanks, the railway cat from old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. [00:01:56] Speaker B: Hell yeah. Hell yeah. [00:01:58] Speaker A: So it's officially National Poetry Month. [00:02:00] Speaker B: Yes. I mean, yeah, we definitely don't want to read an entire T.S. eliot poem on this podcast that would not let us go. [00:02:10] Speaker A: Then you and I, we're not going to do that. But yeah, it's. It's Poetry Month and Spawn is poetry. [00:02:16] Speaker B: I got a. I got another one for you that I thought was pretty funny. [00:02:19] Speaker A: Okay. [00:02:20] Speaker B: Sometimes when you get really high on amphetamine or sometimes other drugs, you begin rhyming or alliterating. And it's sometimes very hard not to do this. [00:02:31] Speaker A: That's funny. Read some poetry. [00:02:37] Speaker B: Poetry. [00:02:37] Speaker A: Also this weekend. Well, previous weekend. [00:02:40] Speaker B: Previous. Yes. [00:02:41] Speaker A: Smoke some weed. [00:02:42] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:02:43] Speaker A: It's meant to be 4:20 as of. [00:02:44] Speaker B: This record upcoming for us past for when you're hearing this. [00:02:48] Speaker A: Yeah, gotta. [00:02:50] Speaker B: You gotta. You gotta roll yourself one of those crucifix joints because it's also Easter. [00:02:56] Speaker A: It's also Easter. It's also the week of the new Ghost album. Once Sunday hits, they should release it on Easter. [00:03:03] Speaker B: Yeah. Could you imagine? I wonder if Kuma's gonna bring back their ghost burger with. [00:03:10] Speaker A: They got in big trouble for that. One with the. [00:03:15] Speaker B: Not sanctified. [00:03:17] Speaker A: What do they do to it? [00:03:18] Speaker B: Whatever. Yeah, it's the unblessed communion wafer. But like, so it's just a little bit of. Basically just a cracker. But people lost their shit. Holy Christ. [00:03:32] Speaker A: Yep. [00:03:33] Speaker B: If they do, we should definitely do that. [00:03:35] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:03:36] Speaker B: Although the problem is that it's got a ghost pepper sauce on it and ghost peppers and me don't have a good history. [00:03:44] Speaker A: Yeah, me either. [00:03:46] Speaker B: I love. I love spicy things, but there's something about the ghost pepper that just like, is immediate. Like you must poop yourself and. [00:03:54] Speaker A: Oh, boy. [00:03:54] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. I don't. I don't know what it is. Rocket fuel. I guess I could go to the moon on that. Yeah. [00:04:02] Speaker A: I'm just scared of it. I don't know. Ghost pepper, it's like all built up. I'm like, I'm not touching that with a fucking 10 meter pole. [00:04:07] Speaker B: Yeah, they're. They're very. They're very spicy with very little taste. So you're not missing. [00:04:12] Speaker A: Exactly. [00:04:13] Speaker B: Like, definitely just stick to a habanero. Or if you're not a spicy of a person, a jalapeno. Jalapeno is one of the best peppers in existence. [00:04:21] Speaker A: Okay. I love jalapeno. [00:04:23] Speaker B: They're so good. Oh, man. [00:04:26] Speaker A: But yeah, it's we day is just happened or is going to happen. Easter Ghost album, Revenge of the Sith rerelease coming up. [00:04:35] Speaker B: We're going to Jam Packed April, Jenny. [00:04:37] Speaker A: A jam Packed April. Yeah. [00:04:39] Speaker B: Flying high in April. Oh, I guess that means we're going to get shut down in May, doesn't it? [00:04:43] Speaker A: Probably. I mean, that's life though. [00:04:47] Speaker B: Yeah, that's what all the people say. [00:04:50] Speaker A: You got to watch Joker too, man. He sings that song. [00:04:55] Speaker B: Man, that was. We used to go to a karaoke that was right across the street from our apartment. The Galway Bay is where it was. And that was the. That was the host's opening song. Every. Every week to get people to come in. And he did a very good job. [00:05:12] Speaker A: Nice. [00:05:13] Speaker B: Yeah. Kiyoki, if you're out there, you're an amazing singer, sir. [00:05:17] Speaker A: You're an amazing kj. That's karaoke jockey for those not in the know. [00:05:23] Speaker B: Yeah. It's actually kind of a difficult job because if you have a slow night and you don't have like 40 songs lined up, you're just like, ah, shit. Am I gonna sing this? [00:05:37] Speaker A: Yeah. No, it isn't. You got to keep it moving. You gotta keep it pleased. You gotta keep it going. It's a tough gig. [00:05:43] Speaker B: It Is a tough gig. It's. I mean, please. The. You can't. Please. [00:05:47] Speaker A: They're underappreciated heroes. [00:05:49] Speaker B: Yeah, they are. They are. Especially. Especially if you have a karaoke in a place that's a little hostile to karaoke. [00:05:58] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:05:59] Speaker B: And you don't have a sufficient. A sufficient crowd of people who are hooting and hollering for it. That's why you gotta. You gotta find yourself a theater person and go to karaoke. Every theater person has like six. Six songs tucked in their belt that they're just raring to let go. [00:06:15] Speaker A: My new movies was just attempt ghost songs. I've never sang in public before and see how it goes. It's had mixed results. [00:06:21] Speaker B: Oh, nice. I mean, you know, that's. That's kind of the way it is. [00:06:26] Speaker A: I just gotta remember I'm actually pretty decent at it. If I just sing literally through my nose, then you sound like Papa. [00:06:32] Speaker B: He's. He has a very weird. Like. I can't even approach it with any sort of amount of falsetto that I can put on. It's tough. [00:06:41] Speaker A: He has some kind of. I read this. I'm not making this up. I don't believe I actually read this. But he has some sort of, like, deviated septum or something going on. Is that makes him, like, really nasally and like, he just embraces it. [00:06:56] Speaker B: I mean, that's what you got to do, Johnny. That's what makes. That's what makes your contributions to art that much more personal. Is it something that you can do that you can't help but do, that nobody else can do in the middle of the night? [00:07:11] Speaker A: It feeds. That's what he sounds like. [00:07:15] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. It's true. It's actually. It's actually very good. Tobias. When did we get Tobias Forge on this. This podcast? [00:07:21] Speaker A: Johnny, I told you. [00:07:22] Speaker B: I didn't realize you had a special guest. [00:07:24] Speaker A: I wish. Pick his brain for a bit. [00:07:28] Speaker B: That would be amazing if we could. [00:07:30] Speaker A: I'm sure he likes Spawn. I'm sure he's least aware of Spawn. [00:07:34] Speaker B: I'm sure. I mean, I know that. I know that they could spawn over in that part of the world because I have a friend who sent me some. Some translated into Dutch. Spawn from the Netherlands. [00:07:43] Speaker A: Oh, yeah? [00:07:43] Speaker B: Yeah. Don't know what it says, but it's pretty fucking cool. [00:07:47] Speaker A: That's awesome. [00:07:48] Speaker B: Yeah, it's very cool. You know what else is very cool? [00:07:51] Speaker A: Johnny Spawns Universe. [00:07:54] Speaker B: Spons Universe. And what are we. What are we doing today talking about Spawn's universe being cool? [00:07:58] Speaker A: Well, we are respawn. Where each week we bring you two issues from Spawn's universe. Except when we don't. This week is no different. We have two issues for you. We have main title spawn 262 all the way back from March 2025. We're catching up, David, on some of them. And scorched 38 all the way back from February 2025. [00:08:24] Speaker B: The best. The best part about being a little. A little spawn 362 being from March is that the, the book on the back is the one that came out this week. And when I got it, I literally went, hell, yeah. Because it's a fucking awesome cover for the next one. [00:08:40] Speaker A: Yeah, 263 does have an awesome cover. [00:08:43] Speaker B: But yeah, well, hell, hell yeah. For spawn 362 and scorch 38. A heller of. Yeah, for scorch 38. It's the better of the two today. [00:08:52] Speaker A: True. It is. 262 is funny and interesting. [00:08:56] Speaker B: It is. It is. It is a wild ride. It is the most comic booky, comic book. Comic bookness that I've ever. [00:09:03] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:09:05] Speaker B: I, I. What's happening? [00:09:09] Speaker A: What's going on? [00:09:10] Speaker B: What's going on? [00:09:12] Speaker A: Tommy Farland's just let it loose. [00:09:14] Speaker B: Oh, man. He is. Yeah. He's like, you know what? It's time to just play around. It's. He's. It's like he's. It's like he's. He's coming back to the sand pit after, you know, having to go home and eat supper or something. And now he's just. He's saying, and you were over here. No, no, you were over here. And then you were over. Yeah, you were over here. [00:09:38] Speaker A: He's also just kind of knocked down the entire castle and was rebuilding a new one. [00:09:42] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:09:43] Speaker A: Because this is like, if you're just reading this story as a story, you'd be like, man, that's a hard shift. What was going on the last, like, 12 issues? [00:09:49] Speaker B: Yeah, I can, I can imagine, like, if you started at 360 with Todd McFarlane coming back on, you would be like, whoa, how did you get here? But also, having read all of them up to that, it's like, whoa, how did we get here? [00:10:03] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:10:04] Speaker B: Oh, man. I mean, it's fun. That's. [00:10:07] Speaker A: It's fun. It was interesting. It was. It was a maybe chuckle. Maybe think of this. Maybe go like, put my hand on my hand, my head on my hand, and think of the Todd father. [00:10:16] Speaker B: The. They're taking definite swings. And we, as if nothing else, we appreciate a swing. [00:10:22] Speaker A: We do. [00:10:23] Speaker B: Yeah. Because I like to go higher. I like to say higher. Man, I wish they. I wish they had swings for adults and not like adult swings. I know they have those. [00:10:36] Speaker A: They have those, buddy. Come on. [00:10:37] Speaker B: But no, like, like, if, like, like if there was like at the park, section of playground equipment for adults with like, rated for people who weigh more than £50 swings, that would be so awesome. [00:10:51] Speaker A: Yeah, you gotta go like amusement park. [00:10:52] Speaker B: Yeah, I would just. I would just go to the swings during lunch and be like, I'm just gonna go swing for a minute, guys. I gotta. I'd have to. I'd have to avoid doing the jump out of the swing dismount because I'm pretty sure I would break something. [00:11:07] Speaker A: Well, David, when we go see episode 3 and 40x, that's how you have to get out of your chair because it's moving. So if you have to go to the bathroom, you have to dismount out of it. Hopefully you don't have any popcorn on you. [00:11:18] Speaker B: You gotta, you gotta. You gotta do like a bull dismount where you throw yourself clear of it so you don't get trampled afterwards. [00:11:23] Speaker A: I mean, kind of, dude, you're gonna. You're laughing, but like, 40x is like kind of intense. [00:11:27] Speaker B: This is gonna be my first ever 40x experience. When Anakin kills the younglings, are they then going to have little like, heat, heat things that go swing, swing, swing by your. [00:11:38] Speaker A: I don't know. I mean, the space battle at the beginning, I imagine will be very thrilling. Yeah, it's going to be. And then like the rocking with the lava. Yeah, I think it's going to be cool. [00:11:50] Speaker B: You were the chosen one. [00:11:52] Speaker A: I hate you. [00:11:55] Speaker B: Oh, man, I'm so fucking excited. More. More on that coming up in a couple of weeks. [00:12:00] Speaker A: Yeah. For our special every year. [00:12:03] Speaker B: Spoilers. They know it is. [00:12:06] Speaker A: I mean, we've done it twice before. It's not a spoiler. [00:12:08] Speaker B: It's a wonderful confluence of this silly thing we do and a re release in theaters. [00:12:14] Speaker A: Yeah, it is. It worked out really well. [00:12:16] Speaker B: That are if they re re release the original trilogy in theaters. Oh, joy. That would be amazing. [00:12:24] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:12:24] Speaker B: The only problem is they're going to be the ones with the. The animated Jabba the Hut in the. In the New Hope. [00:12:32] Speaker A: Yeah. Not the best moment. [00:12:33] Speaker B: Like, like, I don't. I don't. [00:12:35] Speaker A: I don't need that kind of ruins. And it ruins his reveal in the third one. That's the point, you know? [00:12:40] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:12:42] Speaker A: I don't know it. I mean, as a time I Was a kid, and I was like, it's new Star Wars. I don't care. [00:12:47] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:12:47] Speaker A: But looking back on it, that scene sticks out like a sore thumb. There's also a scene that was deleted because it's redundant. He says most of the same dialogue to Greedo. Like, the Greedo scene was written to, like, get rid of that scene. [00:12:57] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:12:58] Speaker A: So, like, you could tell it's a redundant deleted scene because he just kind of says the same information you learn in the Greedo scene. [00:13:04] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:13:05] Speaker A: So these scenes are deleted for a reason, guys. [00:13:08] Speaker B: Yeah. Come on. Just. Just stick with your Diet Coke and your spaghetti, Mr. Lucas. [00:13:13] Speaker A: No, we love Georgie Porgy. [00:13:15] Speaker B: Well, like that stuff. Stop fiddling with the Star Wars. Stop fiddling with it. So let it be what it is. Let it be what it is. If you want to change it, Do a new one. Do a new one. [00:13:27] Speaker A: Do a new one. So we got a new one. And that's the new issue of Spawn 362. [00:13:33] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [00:13:35] Speaker A: I have the A cover. [00:13:37] Speaker B: Nice. Nice. I'm looking at it right now on the Internet. [00:13:40] Speaker A: And you. [00:13:41] Speaker B: I have the beat. [00:13:42] Speaker A: Well. Well, you got the fucking. The Internet, Starling. I did not. I'm an idiot. They love Jeff Monk on the Internet. [00:13:49] Speaker B: Oh, okay. [00:13:50] Speaker A: You don't know Jeff Monk. [00:13:51] Speaker B: No, I know Jeff Monk. I just didn't know that. I didn't know that there was any big, big to do about it. [00:13:59] Speaker A: Oh, no. People were really excited for him to get a cover because he was at Spawn Con. And like, I remember we. When they had the Thomas Healy meeting, someone's like, give Jeff Monk a cover. And he was like, oh, we'll work on it. [00:14:08] Speaker B: Okay. [00:14:08] Speaker A: So it's been a long time coming. [00:14:10] Speaker B: I was. I was unaware of this. I just. I got it because I knew you would get the A. And also, I was like, hell, yeah. The B cover is dope. [00:14:17] Speaker A: It is dope. Oh, yeah. So I have the A cover by Marco Faglia. [00:14:20] Speaker B: Yes. Which is also dope. [00:14:22] Speaker A: It's dope. [00:14:23] Speaker B: Is that a cygor in the background, Johnny? [00:14:25] Speaker A: It is a cygor. [00:14:26] Speaker B: Hell, yeah. Monkey on the COVID unfortunately means no monkey in the book. [00:14:30] Speaker A: That's how it goes, Boo. Boo. It's Spawn with his, like. It's kind of in between. He's like, his. It's his regular cape, but he's kind of got the face, like the scarf thing going on. [00:14:41] Speaker B: It's like. It's like Middle Eastern terrorist Spawn. If I can say. Yeah, he looks like he should be on the back of that discontinued Toyota Truck. [00:14:54] Speaker A: Oh my God. I don't know what that means. [00:14:56] Speaker B: There's. There's a specific model of Toyota truck that's been discontinued. But like, they, they were all produced for the Middle Eastern region because they had certain add ons to make them compatible with desert conditions. And like, if you ever see any videos of terrorists in the Middle east, they're all in this one specific Toyota truck because they last for, like, for forever because they were built so well. [00:15:24] Speaker A: Okay, I didn't know that. [00:15:25] Speaker B: Yeah, it's weird. It's a weird rabbit hole to fall down the trucks from different countries. Car people are crazy. Johnny, I hope you. I don't know if you know this. [00:15:36] Speaker A: I do a little bit, but I mean, what am I. I'm amazed at people that can see a car and just name what it is in like almost a year. But like, I can do that with a Star wars character. [00:15:46] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:46] Speaker A: Oh, that's Ki Adi Mundi. That's Plutun. [00:15:51] Speaker B: That's Dabusque. [00:15:52] Speaker A: That's Dabousque. That's Lo Asti. [00:15:58] Speaker B: Ooh, not sure that one. Not sure that one. [00:16:01] Speaker A: He's the one in Force Awakens. Like, kind of like a. Kind of like an elephant trunk, but it's really short. [00:16:05] Speaker B: Okay, that's Porkins. [00:16:08] Speaker A: That's Jeff Porkins. [00:16:10] Speaker B: Oh, his first name is Jeff. [00:16:11] Speaker A: No, I don't know what it is. That'd be funny if it was Jeff. [00:16:17] Speaker B: Oh, RIP Porkins. Lost in the nut. [00:16:22] Speaker A: It might be Jeff. [00:16:25] Speaker B: Real time. Real time fact check here. And you know he has a bad check. [00:16:29] Speaker A: It's Jack. [00:16:30] Speaker B: Jack. J E K. J E K. Nice. Close. Close enough. I was about to say Jeff. Star Wars. [00:16:36] Speaker A: Hi, I'm Jeff. That's Jack Porkins. [00:16:39] Speaker B: Could you imagine. Could you imagine Jack Porkins? But yeah, it's a. It's a real good cover. This, this cover A. Yeah. [00:16:48] Speaker A: Cool guns. He's got some strapped on. Grenades. [00:16:50] Speaker B: Yeah. He's got cross bandoliers. He's got pouches. Hell yeah. With the pouches and the, the muck cover. The B cover is just so. It's spawn face and it's like melting. That's the best way to describe it. [00:17:06] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:17:06] Speaker B: But it's like the painting is melting into spawn face and then spawn face is melting back into paint painting. It's very, very cool. Very cool. It's very creepy. It's very. It's gooey. It's. It's gooey. Like you kind of. You kind of feel like if you touch parts of it that your finger is going to come away with a little bit of something on it, a. [00:17:25] Speaker A: Little bit of goo. [00:17:26] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. It's terrifying, honestly. [00:17:31] Speaker A: Yeah, it's good. He's got good stuff. It's very good, Jeff. Monk, if you don't follow him, please do. [00:17:36] Speaker B: Oh, no. I got some coffee on this. Maybe that's the goo that's coming off. [00:17:41] Speaker A: That's the goo that's coming off is your coffee. [00:17:44] Speaker B: I mean, could be pizza. No, I can't eat read while I eat because I know I'm going to then just end up with all of my food all over my book. [00:17:54] Speaker A: Yeah. One time I ate a book at a ramen shop. It was a bad idea. Fucking ramen all over that book. [00:18:00] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, man. I mean, it's not like the book doesn't just absorb it all up quickly, so you try to dab it off and it's just like, oh, nope, this is ramen book now. [00:18:09] Speaker A: This is ramen book. My old possums book's got some damage on it. It's got some, like, water damage from something nice. [00:18:16] Speaker B: Probably from being in a bag while it was raining. That's where a lot of my water damage comes from. [00:18:20] Speaker A: Probably looks like soda. I don't know. Let's pop this baby open. [00:18:25] Speaker B: Some good life in that book. You gotta. [00:18:28] Speaker A: I've had this old. This copy of Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats since, like. Oh, I don't know. Probably like, I was in middle school. [00:18:37] Speaker B: Hell, yeah. [00:18:40] Speaker A: I imagine. [00:18:41] Speaker B: I like to think that the beaded. The beaded upness of a book indicates the amount of knowledge you've removed from it, the amount of life you've lived in it. It's real fun. [00:18:53] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. I performed a couple poems From Cats from T.S. eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats when I was in speech and debate in middle school. [00:19:03] Speaker B: Because. Because that's what Cats was based on. And you were like, aha. [00:19:06] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. I did shit I liked. [00:19:09] Speaker B: I did this. [00:19:09] Speaker A: I did Oyster Boy. The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy by Tim Burton. I did. I did shit I liked. [00:19:16] Speaker B: That's the way to do it. [00:19:17] Speaker A: I wasn't. I was. I did it. Good. [00:19:19] Speaker B: That's the way to debate. You can't debate something you don't care about. [00:19:23] Speaker A: Nope. [00:19:23] Speaker B: Nope. [00:19:24] Speaker A: Or speechify about it. It wasn't really a debate. It was just poetry. I never did debate. I did speech. [00:19:30] Speaker B: I did. I didn't either. I was banned. [00:19:33] Speaker A: Oh, well. La dee da. All right. We pop this sucker open and we've Got the credits. Script plot by the one, the only, the Todd father, Todd McFarlane. [00:19:43] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [00:19:44] Speaker A: Art by the one, the only, the electric Brett booth. [00:19:48] Speaker B: Brett electric booth. [00:19:50] Speaker A: Brexit electric booth. Adelso. Corona's on Inks. Colors are Robert Nugent. [00:19:57] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [00:19:58] Speaker A: Lettering is the Tom father, Tom Wojciekowski. You already covered the covers. Yet again, rearing his head, creative director Todd McFarlane. [00:20:07] Speaker B: He's all over the place. [00:20:08] Speaker A: He's all over the place. And then the busiest man in show business, editor in chief, Thomas Healy. [00:20:14] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [00:20:16] Speaker A: Previously in Spawn, Nyx brings Spawn back from the dead and restores his powers. In doing so, she has also restored powers to all of Earth. [00:20:25] Speaker B: Yeah, but that's literally the. That could have been the. Previously on. On the previous one. [00:20:33] Speaker A: Yeah. And then they fought. [00:20:34] Speaker B: Yeah, and then a little bit of fight. [00:20:36] Speaker A: Then Deadpool showed up. [00:20:37] Speaker B: Deadpool shows up. Speaking of Deadpool, Johnny, we got him right here. [00:20:43] Speaker A: We got Green Deadpool on page one. [00:20:45] Speaker B: Yeah, Green Deadpool and Trimmer and Bone. Curse of Spawn. [00:20:49] Speaker A: Curse of the Spawn is what they call him. So I guess he's from that old miniseries. [00:20:53] Speaker B: I guess. [00:20:53] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:20:54] Speaker B: Well, if we're. If we're spoiling names already, then Green Deadpool is bulletproof. [00:21:00] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:01] Speaker B: So we got Quentin Tarantino movie. We got. We got Spooky Scary Man. And then we got the Devil from Legend mixed with the Hulk in Trimmer. [00:21:17] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:18] Speaker B: Did you. Do you. Did you ever watch Legend? [00:21:20] Speaker A: Yeah, of course. [00:21:21] Speaker B: Yeah. So good. [00:21:22] Speaker A: So scary. [00:21:23] Speaker B: The. That prosthetic Curry had to wear must have been so uncomfortable. [00:21:29] Speaker A: I can't imagine. [00:21:30] Speaker B: Because it was, like, so front loaded. I bet his neck hurt like a mother. [00:21:34] Speaker A: They made a movie. Maniacs figure out of that Devil. [00:21:37] Speaker B: Did it stand up? Was it like. Was it, like, fused to the base? [00:21:41] Speaker A: Must have been. [00:21:41] Speaker B: Did it come with a little unicorn? [00:21:44] Speaker A: No. [00:21:45] Speaker B: Nice. Sad. [00:21:47] Speaker A: Yeah, we got this team of. Ragtag Team of three people. [00:21:50] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:51] Speaker A: Attack Spawn at the end of last issue. [00:21:53] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:54] Speaker A: And he's Deadpool. He's got guns and swords. And he looks exactly like Deadpool. [00:21:59] Speaker B: Yeah. He's got. He's got a mouth on him. He calls Spawn a dumbass. [00:22:04] Speaker A: Damn. And he winks at the camera. [00:22:06] Speaker B: Yeah, he doesn't do that. [00:22:09] Speaker A: But anyway, he's like, listen, buddy, you're the one that nearly got us killed because he turned off all the powers. [00:22:18] Speaker B: Even though he didn't. [00:22:18] Speaker A: But I don't know. [00:22:21] Speaker B: There's a big switch just on the side of the Earth that says powers on off. [00:22:27] Speaker A: I mean, that's kind of what happened. [00:22:29] Speaker B: Kinda. [00:22:31] Speaker A: I mean, in canon, I guess. She expanded the Zed Zones to cover the entire Earth. [00:22:35] Speaker B: Yeah. And I guess if you were in hell or in Heaven, you still retained your powers. It's just you weren't able to access them from. [00:22:42] Speaker A: From Earth when you're in Earth. Yeah, yeah, but. [00:22:48] Speaker B: But that's. That's a lot more words than what is here, so. [00:22:51] Speaker A: Yes. [00:22:52] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, man. Trimmer is looking pretty frightening in this. [00:22:56] Speaker A: Yeah, he's got a very sinewy neck. [00:22:58] Speaker B: Yeah, it's red eyes. [00:23:02] Speaker A: And so these guys kind of like spar off. [00:23:05] Speaker B: Yeah, this. This issue has. It's a classic. [00:23:07] Speaker A: Dude, it's Todd McFarlane again. [00:23:09] Speaker B: Yeah, it's a. [00:23:10] Speaker A: Random people show up and they go, hey, I've been looking for you. Yeah, like why? Like, I'm not going to tell you. And they fight and they're like, this is why I've been looking for you. [00:23:17] Speaker B: Yeah. And it's just like rehashing. It's like rehashing everything that's happened up to this point. Point to. So basically all of the dialogue is just about how when everybody's powers went away, the factions were broken up to basically hell and Heaven. People had to protect themselves from the vampires because the vampires were the only people who still retained their powers, except for the hybrids, which curiously missing. And then. And then now that their powers are back, they have to team up in a strategic way to make sure that. That the balance of power doesn't fall in a way that is contrary to what they want. That's. That's all the dialogue in this book switched into a little bit so we don't have to worry about keeping track. [00:23:59] Speaker A: Yeah. But basically like, look, buddy, you gotta help us or get out of our way. [00:24:04] Speaker B: Yeah. And they start breaking down. How the. How the factions are gonna. You know, how the factions are gonna form. Like, what the factions are gonna be now that everybody has powers again. It's going to be heaven, the vampires, or humanity and hell. And everybody's got to choose a side, Johnny. And the first people to choose a side are little goonies, little omens. [00:24:30] Speaker A: The little clown omens. I didn't even realize they were there. They just like show up and hug. [00:24:36] Speaker B: Spawn and disappear and then disappear. They're just like. Just like some like these minions of the villainous clown choose quickly. And so they choose spawn because they choose hell because that's. That's where they live. They're going to choose where they live. [00:24:50] Speaker A: Where these guys come from. Where do they go? [00:24:52] Speaker B: Something I Joe Yeah. Thinking about how the lyrics went. [00:24:57] Speaker A: Where did they come from? Where did they go? Where did they come from? Cotton Eye Joe. Yeah. These guys just show up, they hug Swan's leg and then they disappear. We love the omens. We wish they would stick around more. [00:25:09] Speaker B: Oh, man, they're. [00:25:10] Speaker A: They've kept the crazy pug faces from. From Batman V Spawn. [00:25:14] Speaker B: Yeah, they've got the big. The big, big bulging eyes. [00:25:18] Speaker A: Yeah. They kept that great Capullo kind of redesign there, but. [00:25:22] Speaker B: Yeah. And then. And then Bulletproof and Trimmer and Curse of Spawn are talking about how they need. They need to all rally behind one leader. A strong leader, a good leader, a leader we can trust. And then, as though summoning them like it's a. It's a very speak of the devil thing, the leader that they've chosen to trust and fall behind appears. [00:25:47] Speaker A: It's an action figure. Yeah, it's a Mandarin spawn. [00:25:51] Speaker B: Right? It is an action figure. Brett Booth draws a great Mandarin spawn. Channing. [00:25:58] Speaker A: Yeah. It's excellent. But, yeah, Mandarin spawn appears. The magnificent bean is the one they've chosen to lead them. Yeah, he's got a mission. Get the people that are weak, the prey on the weak, and then kill their offspring. Oh, my God. [00:26:12] Speaker B: Yeah. Geez. [00:26:13] Speaker A: He wants to, like, go kill all the bad people and kill their children a bit much. [00:26:18] Speaker B: Yeah. Johnny, that's pretty heartless. Slaughter children? Jesus. [00:26:22] Speaker A: Biblical fuck. [00:26:23] Speaker B: So, I mean, speaking of it being the final days of Passover this year, it's kind of a. Maybe appropriate. [00:26:31] Speaker A: Yeah, it is. [00:26:32] Speaker B: Oh, man. Glad to see you guys passed over, Johnny. [00:26:36] Speaker A: I did get passed over. [00:26:37] Speaker B: Yeah. Although you also aren't by a lot of things. You also aren't the firstborn son, so you weren't even in danger. You better call your brother, see how he's doing. [00:26:45] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, I better. It's his birthday on 4 20. [00:26:48] Speaker B: Oh. Oh, hell yeah. Really? [00:26:51] Speaker A: Yeah. Never smoked weed in his life. It's pretty funny. It's wasted. [00:26:59] Speaker B: Well, that just means that you get to celebrate him. It's. [00:27:03] Speaker A: I do. [00:27:04] Speaker B: It's not. It's not. It's not overindulgence. It's not over self indulgence. If you're celebrating him. [00:27:10] Speaker A: I'm celebrating. I'll be serving him and capital H him on Sunday. [00:27:14] Speaker B: Oh, a whole bunch of hymns. You'll be celebrating. Hymns. You'll be getting your boner pills through the mail. [00:27:19] Speaker A: Sure, why not? [00:27:22] Speaker B: So him, him and hims. Very nice. [00:27:25] Speaker A: And I'll be singing the Holy Trinity, Johnny. I'll sing hymns. I like how the Female version of hers. Or, like, it's just, like, a depression medication. [00:27:36] Speaker B: Yeah, well, so they both. They both sell the depression medications, but, like, that's the way that they can get men to subscribe to their service is get your dick hard. [00:27:46] Speaker A: Is there any kind of libido pill for women? Does that exist? [00:27:49] Speaker B: Ooh, I don't know. Probably not. [00:27:53] Speaker A: I wonder why I wouldn't. [00:27:55] Speaker B: I mean, you know, do we have the time? But, I mean, you know, also. Also, boner pills were started as a way to fix certain heart abnormalities. And then they just realized that it didn't do what they wanted to in the heart region. But, boy, howdy, boy, howdy. Did it have an effect. [00:28:15] Speaker A: Oh, boy. So they're basically, join us. You must submit to me. And Spawn, of course, is like, hell, no, man. I'm out of. Oh, there they are. They're still there. He's got his little guys. [00:28:24] Speaker B: Yeah. He's. He's like. He's like, I'm taking my children, and I'm going. [00:28:28] Speaker A: We are going home. Come on, children. He's taking his little minions. [00:28:36] Speaker B: So he's. [00:28:36] Speaker A: That he, like. He, like, lassos him and turns him around with his powers, and it's like, yeah. [00:28:41] Speaker B: And then. And then. And then Trevor comes up and starts poking him in the chest. That one little minion's just like, huh? [00:28:50] Speaker A: Spawn says, keep your stinking magic off me. [00:28:53] Speaker B: Yeah. And then. And then blasts. Blasts Tremor away for poking him in the chest. [00:29:01] Speaker A: Yeah. Just does a big old necroplasm blast. Don't poke me, motherfucker. [00:29:04] Speaker B: And then the Curse of Spawn comes to help, and Spawn blasts him, too. The Curse of Spawn has been in suspended animation for some time. [00:29:12] Speaker A: Duh. Who didn't know that? [00:29:14] Speaker B: It slowed him down? But Spawn is wasting unnecessary energy, Johnny. He needs that. He needs that necroplasm, but he's wasting it. [00:29:22] Speaker A: And then Deadpool flies in, and he's impervious to necroplasm. [00:29:26] Speaker B: Yeah. And then another day, Spawn will find out why they named him Bulletproof. And apparently, so will we. [00:29:35] Speaker A: Probably because he's immune to bullets. [00:29:37] Speaker B: Probably. And so then Spawn just, like, wraps him up in his cape. And as he's wrapping him up in his cape, he's flipping the bird, Johnny. Look at that. He's dead. [00:29:44] Speaker A: Oh, he's looking sassy. Slipping the bird, just like Deadpool. [00:29:49] Speaker B: If he can't harm him, he can at least blind him. But then, while he's wrapping Deadpool up, Tremor comes up and just gores him from behind. [00:29:58] Speaker A: Yep. Rams him like we can keep this up all day if you want. [00:30:03] Speaker B: Yeah. Spawn calculates his next move. He sees how deadly serious they are about their threat, but he also knows he'll need them on his side too. So. So he can't just completely pummel them because they'll never join him. And then. And then Mandarin, Spawn steps in and is like, hey, hey, let's stop fighting. I need you on my team. [00:30:26] Speaker A: We need each other. [00:30:27] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:30:28] Speaker A: How do I make you understand that? [00:30:29] Speaker B: Yeah. Spawn says you recruiting message is for shit. Well, it's not like you're the easiest person to convince to do something, Spawn. Jeez. [00:30:40] Speaker A: Yeah, you're pretty hard to convince. [00:30:43] Speaker B: If they had just come up and asked, you would have been an asshole about it. [00:30:47] Speaker A: He's like, why were you fighting me then? If you want peace, go fight the enemies, you idiot. We need an army. And of course, in the classic Topfather, bring up the military man. [00:30:56] Speaker B: Yeah, I'd build an army, but I'm not for hire. It's just such a. He's such a terrible teammate spot. [00:31:08] Speaker A: Such a terrible teammate. And Mandarin calls him out and says, you've. You're too valuable to be a lone wolf. You're too erratic to be our leader. [00:31:16] Speaker B: Yeah. And being a. Being a leader is Mandarin. Spawn's destiny. [00:31:22] Speaker A: And Spawn's done talking. [00:31:23] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:31:24] Speaker A: They start punching. He starts punching him. [00:31:26] Speaker B: Yeah. But Mandarin, Spawn is a split second faster than Al on every move, and. [00:31:32] Speaker A: He shoots his chains at him. [00:31:34] Speaker B: Yeah. And Mandarin's like, pathetic. They won't help change anything. [00:31:40] Speaker A: He just deflects them. [00:31:41] Speaker B: Yeah. And Spawn, he's like, oh, yeah, well, you've forgotten where you are. And he, like, conjures up a whole bunch of shadows with his cape or with his. With his. With his cape. And, like, shadow blasts in that shadow. [00:31:57] Speaker A: Just blast right into it. [00:31:59] Speaker B: He's using the shadows to his. To his benefit. Then Mandred says some hellspawn like to cloak themselves in shadows to hide from their duties. Ooh. Burn. [00:32:10] Speaker A: Same. [00:32:11] Speaker B: Burned. [00:32:12] Speaker A: Yeah, same. Only a blanket. [00:32:14] Speaker B: Yeah, like, if I don't see it, it doesn't exist. I don't have to take care of it. No, nom nom, no. [00:32:19] Speaker A: I'm just. No, no. I'm just under a blanket. Leave me alone. [00:32:22] Speaker B: Nobody here but us fellows. Go away. Bulletproof doesn't know what's happening. And so curse respond says he's using the shadows to move. [00:32:30] Speaker A: And he pops out of the shadows. And. Yeah, like, punches manner Spawn in the. [00:32:34] Speaker B: Spine because kind of does a. I mean, I'm going To assume there's a little bit of a gooch punch there. [00:32:41] Speaker A: Too, Johnny, because, yeah, right in the crotch. [00:32:43] Speaker B: If you're gonna shadow blast up from right underneath somebody, you're totally gonna get a. You're totally gonna get an errant crotch shot in there, too, because why the fuck else would you do it? [00:32:52] Speaker A: That's what it seems like. [00:32:53] Speaker B: That's what it seems like. And tentacles of Spawn's cape pin the Mandarin's arm to the ground. And then Spawn's like, well, well, well. Looks like I have the upper hand now. What you gonna do about it? And then Trimmer and the Curse of Spawn, you know, Trimmer tries to pull the cape off of Mandarin and Curse of Spawn and Bulletproof, like, head towards Spawn and he disappears. And he pops up in some shadows behind them. And, like, he keeps. He. He's doing, like, a whole bunch of three stooges ducking and, like, having them run into each other or grasp at the air that he's left behind. [00:33:35] Speaker A: Mm. Throwing him around with his cape. [00:33:37] Speaker B: And then Spawn pulls Mandarin and himself into the void, the space between the realms, Leaving Tremor and Curse of Spawn and Bulletproof to be like, huh? Huh? Where'd he. Where'd. [00:33:50] Speaker A: Where'd they go? [00:33:50] Speaker B: Where'd it go? [00:33:51] Speaker A: Randarin's like, ah, you try and suffocate me. You're only nothing with magic here. And he makes his chains start choking Spawn himself. [00:33:58] Speaker B: Yeah, so it's. So we got a little scene of why you hitting yourself from both sides? Why you hitting yourselves? Why are you hitting yourself? And Al Simmons says he turns into Bane for a second. [00:34:10] Speaker A: You weren't trained in the darkness. I was born in it. [00:34:19] Speaker B: So. So Spawn's like, the. The darkness is going to weaken your symbiote. And Mandarin's like, well, yours fucking hates light, so why don't I just. [00:34:29] Speaker A: He turns on his lantern eyes or his chest. [00:34:32] Speaker B: Yeah, just like necroplasmic lanterns. Johnny, I think we can safely say that this is some Luciferase. [00:34:40] Speaker A: Luciferous. [00:34:41] Speaker B: Luciferase. So it's what makes fireflies grow glow is Luciferous. [00:34:47] Speaker A: Okay, very exciting, because Lucifer means, like, light, right? [00:34:50] Speaker B: Yeah, because Lucifer is the Lightbringer. [00:34:53] Speaker A: Damn. [00:34:54] Speaker B: Yeah, it's awesome. [00:34:54] Speaker A: Until he fell. [00:34:55] Speaker B: Yeah, well, I mean, that's kind of why he was forced. [00:34:59] Speaker A: He led a rebellion, right? [00:35:01] Speaker B: Yeah, he did. But to begin with, he was the bringer of the light. Like, he was God's lackey to bring the light over. And then he brought the metaphorical light and clarity of the fucks with these people. I thought Angels were your preferred creation. So got a lot of Lucifer sympathy over on this side of the recording booth. I don't know if you've noticed that. [00:35:24] Speaker A: That's all from Paradise Lost, right? [00:35:26] Speaker B: It's not in the Bible, no, yeah, it's definitely extra canonical to the Bible. But, I mean, there's. I mean, there's a lot of. There's a lot of. [00:35:41] Speaker A: Paradise Lost was good. I read that in college. [00:35:43] Speaker B: I haven't. I haven't read it. I have a. I have a copy of it over on a bookshelf. I just haven't sat down to sit it. Very exciting. Very exciting. I know. It's very well researched as far as the construction of it, so, sure, it might as well be canon. [00:35:58] Speaker A: I consider it my head cannon. [00:36:00] Speaker B: Yeah, that's good. That's good, that's good. And then Mandarin Spawn starts saying. Starts confusing Spawn by saying things like, we could be together. Isn't that what you've always wanted, for us to be together? [00:36:12] Speaker A: And Spawn's like, what the hell? [00:36:13] Speaker B: What's going on? And it's like, hold on, let me take off your mask. And so struggles and removes. Removes the armor from Mandarin piece by piece. And then we see who is Mandarin Spawn. [00:36:27] Speaker A: Johnny, turn the page. It's Wanda. [00:36:30] Speaker B: Wanda. Wanda. So Mandarin spawn is Wanda. How long has Mandarin spawn been Wanda? Is that Mandarin spawn who had the fighting ring in, like, single? Was that man. Was that Wanda? Or is it all, first of all. [00:36:47] Speaker A: Racist, Second of all cultural appropriation? Wanda, you can't be Mandarin Spawn. Yeah, but like you said before the record, it's better. It's not just a white guy. [00:36:57] Speaker B: That would be way worse because then that would also be colonialist. Yeah, but, like, what the hell? What the. What? [00:37:05] Speaker A: What? Wanda's inside Mandarin Spawn. Okay. [00:37:07] Speaker B: Yeah. How long has Wanda been inside Mandarin spawn? [00:37:09] Speaker A: Well, this is what you're saying. It's like, the most comic book y thing ever. It's like, let's just throw in a crazy twist. That makes, like, no sense. [00:37:15] Speaker B: No, it makes no sense. But. But goes down much smoother than that kiss a couple issues ago. Go. Yes, infinitely better. [00:37:25] Speaker A: I can see this being, like, some kind of mind trick on Mandarin's part too. Yeah, like, it's not really w. But I don't know the weight they put to it. I don't know. If Tom's a crazy. He'd probably bring Wanda back as a Mandarin spawn. Like, that'd be wild. [00:37:39] Speaker B: That. I mean, that could be a good. That could be a good, like, hell. Hell trying to to convince maybe. I mean, it could be something that Nix was doing. Because we know Nyx was very, very pro Wanda. And maybe Nyx is like, you know what? I got a plan for you. It'll help me with Al Simmons. [00:37:57] Speaker A: That's true. She wasn't hell last time we saw her. Maybe. I guess we'll find out. [00:38:02] Speaker B: I guess we'll find out. Then we get necroplasma meter to end the issue. [00:38:07] Speaker A: 3571. [00:38:09] Speaker B: 3571. [00:38:11] Speaker A: Isn't that a movie? U571. [00:38:13] Speaker B: U571. Still pretty close. They're all prime numbers though. So that's got to mean something. [00:38:19] Speaker A: Does it, David? [00:38:21] Speaker B: I don't know. It just means they can't be divided by anything other than themselves in one evenly, at least. So we turn the page and we got some spawning ground presents. A mailbag. We got somebody Eddickson writing says that they bought 360 at a comic book store and enjoyed reading it. I'm not sure if this is like their first spawn, so if it is their first spawn, I mean, not a terrible place to start. A confusing place to start, perhaps, but they enjoyed it, so that's really all that matters, right, Johnny? [00:38:57] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, I started in a weird place with Spawn. [00:39:01] Speaker B: I mean, you kind of gotta just start in a weird spot. Even starting at the issue number one is a very weird spot this time. [00:39:07] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:39:10] Speaker B: Oh boy. And they say that they always wanted to be a comic book creator. And hopefully in the future they can publish their own comics to Image Comics, which, you know, we know that's literally what Comics or Image Comics does. So. And Thomas Healy is like, hell yeah. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. And then we also get a Charles who just finished reading issue 360. And Johnny, this is the other side of the coin. This is the very. This sounds a lot like this guy maybe combed through your brain to. To pull up a couple of issues. And he's like, what the continuity? What the. What the. What the, what the, what the? [00:39:54] Speaker A: So basically Charles here is asking. He recalls back in the pre issue 100 days that spawn was bitten by a vampire and acquired some vamp powers. So he's saying that now the dead zones are close. Shouldn't he still have his vampire powers? Or did I miss something over the years? [00:40:08] Speaker B: Yeah, he's struggling, Johnny. [00:40:11] Speaker A: And Thomas, like a good editor, has a good answer. Spawns does have a small amount of vampire powers, but nearly as much as a pure blooded vampire. That's the reason why Al is able to Survive so many heinous injuries during this arc. Slight healing factor and help from the Tinkerer helped him to keep him alive. [00:40:28] Speaker B: Not. He would been toast. He would have been very terrible toast. Could you imagine a toasted Spawn? Oh, hang on. [00:40:35] Speaker A: We have one. [00:40:36] Speaker B: Oh, there's not enough butter in the world to recuperate. That one. And then we get. We get some fan art submission. So Storm had somewhat a French name back. Do a Cygor She Spawn cover on a Spawn. Kills every spawn blank issue. And it's. It's wild. It's wild because. Because this little. This little stinker, Chibi Spawn has a. The dynamite plunger hooked up to a banana that's hiding a stick of dynamite. And Psygor is about to eat it. [00:41:20] Speaker A: And Jessica's looking like paint girl or something. [00:41:23] Speaker B: Yeah. And Jessica, she looks like she's like bended down to be like, oh, how sweet. What a little child. [00:41:29] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:41:33] Speaker B: The dynamite and the banana is classic. [00:41:36] Speaker A: Yeah, it's funny. [00:41:39] Speaker B: Oh, it's real good. It's real fun. Yeah. Do you need more Sponge Universe, Johnny? [00:41:45] Speaker A: Always nice. [00:41:46] Speaker B: Then don't miss the ongoing titles, Johnny. That Core four Spawn King Spawn. Sporched, Sporched, Scorched Sporched Gunslinger. You know all. [00:41:55] Speaker A: They're coming. [00:41:56] Speaker B: They're coming. I think at this point, they've all came. [00:42:00] Speaker A: Hopefully. [00:42:01] Speaker B: Image Classics Ad. What does that look for, Johnny? [00:42:05] Speaker A: Because you said they all came. I said hopefully I was being a cream. [00:42:16] Speaker B: I don't know, Johnny. That just seems like you regularly are. [00:42:20] Speaker A: What? I'm not. [00:42:21] Speaker B: No. [00:42:21] Speaker A: Creep. [00:42:22] Speaker B: Just. Just exactly what I would expect a creep to say, David. [00:42:27] Speaker A: I'm just. [00:42:29] Speaker B: You just. You're just doing. You're doing your best. I know. No, but yeah, I mean, you know, you walked into my trap, Johnny. I. I said. I said it in such a way and you fell for it. Ha. Call of Duty. The toyed on the back Call of Duty Spawn. [00:42:49] Speaker A: We got two spawns of Call of Duty. I suck at Call of Duty. Actually. I don't suck. I'm actually okay because I played a lot of Halo. [00:42:55] Speaker B: Nice. [00:42:56] Speaker A: But I suck sometimes. [00:42:58] Speaker B: I mean, you suck compared to the people who basically pay 32 hours of call of Duty every week. [00:43:06] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. Well, I'm playing 32 hours of Diablo 4 every week, which isn't even competitive. So I can't even like, be better than people. [00:43:16] Speaker B: You know, whatever. [00:43:18] Speaker A: Actually, I haven't been playing much Diablo 4. I haven't been playing much video games at all. [00:43:21] Speaker B: David, is it the end of the season? [00:43:24] Speaker A: End of the season? Of this season though, I'll be getting back on. On the new season. I've just been busy and. [00:43:31] Speaker B: It'S been. [00:43:32] Speaker A: Less depressed, so that helps. [00:43:35] Speaker B: Oh, nice correlation. [00:43:36] Speaker A: Correlate. I usually play a lot of video games when I'm depressed, so. [00:43:40] Speaker B: Oh, hell yeah. Hell yeah. [00:43:41] Speaker A: And then when I'm happy too. I like video games, but I can. [00:43:45] Speaker B: Play a video game. [00:43:48] Speaker A: You sing some Lana at me. [00:43:50] Speaker B: Yeah, trying to. [00:43:53] Speaker A: I love Atlanta Del Rey. She got a couple new singles dropped this week. [00:43:57] Speaker B: Oh, nice. I was about to ask because I didn't keep up with her. [00:44:02] Speaker A: So I still like her first album the best. It's the most fun. She gets really weepy. She's really weepy now. But they're still pretty good. You just have to be in the right mood for them. [00:44:10] Speaker B: I get that. I get that. [00:44:12] Speaker A: But it's not something you put on like every day. [00:44:15] Speaker B: But that was spawn 362Johnny. [00:44:19] Speaker A: There it was in all its comic book nest glory. [00:44:24] Speaker B: It was wild. [00:44:25] Speaker A: I'm Wanda, Nana. Next up we got the scorch 38. [00:44:46] Speaker B: Yes, we sure do. [00:44:47] Speaker A: It's pretty great. [00:44:48] Speaker B: It's pretty. I mean, I don't want. I don't want to faff about Johnny. I kind of want to get right into this one because. Yeah, it's some good stuff. It's some good stuff. [00:44:57] Speaker A: Start with the covers. [00:44:58] Speaker B: Uh huh. [00:44:59] Speaker A: I've got the A covers. Shocking no one. [00:45:01] Speaker B: I have the A cover as well because Johnny, I love. This is basically she spawn is Ariel saying, look at my guns. Isn't that neat? [00:45:12] Speaker A: Yeah, it's just like my guns, mine, My guns mine. Just Jessica, like arms spread in front of a wall of guns. Yeah, I own all of these. [00:45:24] Speaker B: There's the wall of guns and it's got things from just like a 9 millimeter to an Uzi to revolver to like a. Yeah. Grenade launchers and shit. And then like this super triple, triple decker stacked. I don't even know what that's supposed to be. There's like a Tommy gun and then. And then down at the floor there's. She's got ammunition. She's got like grenades and I guess another kind of grenade and like rockets and what looks like a detonator button. Ooh, a detonator button. [00:45:59] Speaker A: She's got quite the. [00:46:01] Speaker B: It's the Kevin Keene cover. It's great. And she's just like. She's just. She's got like the mischievous smile. Like she's like. She's just begging you to ask her to show you how her guns Work like, just. Come on, come on. Ask me, Ask me how these guns work. [00:46:18] Speaker A: So let me show you. There's a B cover that actually is appropriate for the issue. [00:46:24] Speaker B: Yeah, it is. It's great. And it's. It's a very well done cover because it's a Von Randall. And we. We stand a Von Randall here. [00:46:32] Speaker A: Yes, we do. It is Medieval Spawn holding aloft a. [00:46:38] Speaker B: Like, flaming necroplasmic geese sword. It's great. [00:46:42] Speaker A: And Medieval Spawn's a big part of this issue, so it actually makes sense to cover. [00:46:46] Speaker B: Yeah, he's a. It's a. It's a big, beefy Medieval Spawn. It is so good. Like. Like if I saw this guy coming down the. Coming down the street at me, I would be like, absolutely fucking not. Goodbye forever. Yeah. You'll never see me again. [00:47:02] Speaker A: Spawn is scary. [00:47:03] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:47:05] Speaker A: Back to the early days of Spawn we talked about. Spawn is scary. [00:47:08] Speaker B: We forget about it. But he was. He was a frightening man. But we gotta. We gotta pop this open so we can get these credits out where they're due. We got script plot by John Layman and additional script by Todd McFarlane. Got art by Steven Segovia. And it continues to be just fucking badass. Colors by Danai Ribeirio and world design doing the lettering, covered the covers. Todd McFarlane is the creative director. And Thomas Healy continuing to be the hardest working showman ever. [00:47:43] Speaker A: The greatest showman. [00:47:44] Speaker B: The greatest. The greatest hard working. He's gonna. We're gonna make a musical about him. It's gonna be the Thomas Showman. [00:47:53] Speaker A: The Thomas Showman. [00:47:55] Speaker B: Previously in the Scorched. Jessica and the team are beaten, bloodied and dying on the ground. Only a miracle can save them. [00:48:07] Speaker A: Well, in fact, did it? [00:48:08] Speaker B: Did it? Did indeed. [00:48:10] Speaker A: The end of the last issue was It's a miracle. And I started believing in miracle. Well, I realized I believed in miracles. I'm spiritual. [00:48:17] Speaker B: It's a miracle. [00:48:19] Speaker A: She's alive. Damn it. Any chance to sing that anytime. I'm spiritual. [00:48:25] Speaker B: Yeah. John Johnny Spiritual Fisher. [00:48:29] Speaker A: That's my new name. [00:48:30] Speaker B: Ooh, nice. That actually works. Nice. But yeah. So we start. We start on the opening reading with this great splash page of Jessica Priest hanging out with her daughter. Some great artwork here because Jessica Priest's outfit here looks so comfy. I want a shirt that. That, that shirt looks like it's the comfiest goddamn shirt in existence. Even though it's a turtleneck, it looks hella comfy. Does I want shirts to fit like that? [00:49:04] Speaker A: We get the opening reading where Jessica's just dreaming about A normal life. [00:49:09] Speaker B: And then, and then it ends. The bottom of it is just like her and her, her costume. Just like serious crying. [00:49:20] Speaker A: Yeah, she's crying over someone like you. [00:49:27] Speaker B: And it's just. It's just such a well composed, well composed page. It's so great. And there's like these, these bright glimmering leaves of like memory and desire just floating down from what she remembers, what she wants into what she's currently doing. It's. They're turning into her tears. Oh, Jesus, Johnny. [00:49:53] Speaker A: And what she's doing is kicking the Black Brotherhood's ass. [00:49:56] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. So we turn the page and it's just. It goes straight from this sort of idyllic autumnal, just sort of. Ah, this is nice. To wham, bam. [00:50:10] Speaker A: She's just like using her chains to throw around like three of the dudes. [00:50:14] Speaker B: Yeah, it looks like. It looks like she's just grabbed one of them and thrown her behind her. [00:50:19] Speaker A: Oh, man, I'm going to enjoy to make these fuckers pay for what they did to me. [00:50:23] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:50:23] Speaker A: They ripped off your fucking arm. [00:50:24] Speaker B: Yeah. She's like, no thanks to this group of assholes, a bunch of dark wizards known as the Black Brotherhood. And she's like, and now my powers are back. Didn't want them. But now that they are, I'm betting that Redeemer feels exactly the same way. And so we cut from Jessica Priest beating up the Black Brotherhood to just like some, some like evil wizard looking guys shooting beams at Redeemer. And Redeemer just being like, weak. [00:50:57] Speaker A: We bats him away with his power. [00:50:59] Speaker B: And then like hits him with the holy light. Oh, man. [00:51:04] Speaker A: Jessica mentions the elephant in the room. The weird thing is, after fighting it outside all this time, I don't even know his name. [00:51:10] Speaker B: Yeah, because the last time he tried to tell her his name, like, they've been fighting. They've been fighting since the interruption at the bar. [00:51:19] Speaker A: Yeah, basically. [00:51:20] Speaker B: And then Jessica Priest says, but I do know one thing, I'm glad he's on our side. [00:51:25] Speaker A: Yeah. She shoots a chain through a guy's eye. [00:51:28] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, boy. [00:51:30] Speaker A: No, she decapitates him. [00:51:32] Speaker B: Oh. But it looks like it also, it looks like, I think she shoots it through his eyes and rips his head off. Oh, could you imagine getting hit in the eye so hard your head falls off? [00:51:43] Speaker A: No. [00:51:44] Speaker B: Oh, Jesus. Oh, Christ. And then. And Jessica's like, hey, Kilgore, we got this. Go get Medieval. [00:51:52] Speaker A: I love how her chains are all bloody. [00:51:53] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:51:54] Speaker A: Oh, they're all covered in like viscera. You can tell she's just like whipping ass. [00:51:59] Speaker B: Yeah. She's not even. She's not even stopping to take names. She's like. [00:52:04] Speaker A: She doesn't use her chains that often. [00:52:05] Speaker B: No, she doesn't. She's usually. She's usually Gun lady. She. She tends to eschew the. The powers. Even when she has the powers, she doesn't even use them very much. She's like, like original. Original Spawn. Trying to like what he knows is guns. So instead of powering things, he. He just. [00:52:26] Speaker A: Guns. Yeah. [00:52:27] Speaker B: So. But now pissed. Repowered. No guns in sight. Jessica Priest is using what she has at hand. And we know she is very resourceful. [00:52:37] Speaker A: Yeah. And then out comes the Viscerator. [00:52:42] Speaker B: Yeah. She's been patiently waiting for them. To kill Medieval Spawn will be thrilling. [00:52:47] Speaker A: But to kill his friends first before his eyes, that'll be more satisfying, more pleasurable. [00:52:53] Speaker B: Pleasurable. [00:52:55] Speaker A: She starts transforming. [00:52:56] Speaker B: She like, like turns into a. A much more insecty, like, thing. [00:53:02] Speaker A: Arachnid, like. [00:53:03] Speaker B: Yeah. And Jessica Priest is like, this is. This. This abomination is somehow related to the Fleabiec brothers. This is the. This is the Violator's sister, the archenemy of Medieval Spawn. [00:53:16] Speaker A: You get this great two page spread of the new viscerator form. [00:53:19] Speaker B: Yeah. She's. [00:53:20] Speaker A: She's got like stylized lettering, is great. [00:53:22] Speaker B: Yeah, she's the. I'm the viscerator. I've been holding back, observing, testing you, but no more. She's got like these big claw hands too. Oh, geez. [00:53:34] Speaker A: She kind of reminds me of the rock in the Scorpion King and the Mommy Returns. She looks a lot better. [00:53:40] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:53:41] Speaker A: It's not a diss. [00:53:42] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:53:43] Speaker A: Yeah, it's like some of the worst CG ever. [00:53:45] Speaker B: Oh, it definitely is. It's. [00:53:48] Speaker A: I remember, like, just that's happened in theater and I was like, what the. Like, I just remember seeing that movie. Like, we're supposed to accept this. [00:53:55] Speaker B: I mean, what else were we supposed to do? [00:53:57] Speaker A: I don't know, have a real person? [00:54:01] Speaker B: Come on, Johnny. That's not the way Hollywood works. [00:54:04] Speaker A: That's true. [00:54:06] Speaker B: And then we cut from there to Mark Rosen strapped down to a table. And then looming over him is Abramo Thomas Cardinal Vignolia Supreme High Priest, Lord Imperator of the Black Brotherhood. And he basically just gets his name out. And Mark is like, you're insane, sir. [00:54:31] Speaker A: Is a parrot or a real thing, or is that just from Mad Max? [00:54:37] Speaker B: I don't know. We could look it up, but I would assume it's at least some. Somewhere in some hierarchy there's An Imperator? [00:54:45] Speaker A: Yeah. Mother Imperator or sister Imperator. Sorry. [00:54:50] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:54:50] Speaker A: There's a comic book about her. Did you see that? [00:54:54] Speaker B: The. [00:54:54] Speaker A: The Ghost Ghost comic book. [00:54:56] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, it's. [00:54:57] Speaker A: I think I missed the first issue. [00:54:59] Speaker B: Oh. I mean, you can just order some. You just order back. Back issue. [00:55:02] Speaker A: I'll probably just wait till the trade paperback, honestly. [00:55:04] Speaker B: Probably. Yeah. [00:55:06] Speaker A: But I do want to read it. [00:55:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:55:08] Speaker A: I love the ghost lore. It's so fun. [00:55:10] Speaker B: It's. It's wacky. That's the best part of it. Imperator. That Cardinal Vignola is like, it's strange how those two don't comprehend, distort reality. It's your own faults that have led you here. Like, oh, sure, sure, Mark. Mark definitely wanted to have himself strapped to a table and have a crazed madman wielding a bone saw above his head. [00:55:35] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:55:37] Speaker B: And he's like, I now need to open your skull. So come on, chop chop. We gotta get with the saw. [00:55:46] Speaker A: He's basically explaining that Medieval spawn occupies. [00:55:48] Speaker B: His conscious because there's Conscious. There's something special about Mark Rosen's brain that allows the entity of Medieval spawn to exist within his mind, but not like, fuse to become a single entity. They still remain separate. [00:56:05] Speaker A: Yes. And they want to figure out why. By cutting. Is it brain open. [00:56:09] Speaker B: Yeah. And they. They want to figure out why, how it's happening, but they also want to take away this safe spy space because they want to make sure that Medieval never gets out of their grasp again. And they don't. They don't give a. About what's going on. They don't care about heaven. They don't care about hell. They just want power. [00:56:23] Speaker A: They just want power. [00:56:24] Speaker B: And Medieval is a means to achieving that power. And they've been. They've been following this trail for centuries. Centuries. And they. They thought they lost him for a while until spawn 304 brought Medieval back into the limelight. And they're like, oh, hey, there's that guy we lost a couple hundred years ago. [00:56:44] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:56:45] Speaker B: Then Cardinal Vignoya raises the Bonesaw again and is like, it's time for us to remove. [00:56:51] Speaker A: Time for us to remove the brain. [00:56:54] Speaker B: And then he gets called away. He's like, well, all right. Sorry about this, man. I'm gonna have to leave you here. But don't worry. I'm gonna be right back. I'm gonna get that brain out of you. Two shakes. Yeah. And they're like, and so we'll let you go. But if you let Medieval spawn back in your head again, we're gonna cut that. That head right off, you know, the second he goes in, just like, whoop. Oh, man. As if Mark needs another thing to stress about. Jesus Christ, man. Poor Mark. He just keeps getting shit on by all the. Like. It's like. It's like the scorch around. And he's the one that has to find out. [00:57:39] Speaker A: He finds out. Yeah. He's the one that gets all the pain. [00:57:42] Speaker B: Oh, man, that's rough, rough stuff. And then we cut to the fight between Redeemer and Jessica versus Viscerator. And I do like that they're. They're fighting over a whole bunch of disembodied heads. [00:57:56] Speaker A: Yes. And then the viscerator uses these heads and resurrects them into, like, little head bugs that are really cool. [00:58:01] Speaker B: Yeah, those. Those things that she. She shot at them the first time they fought that she just, like, reanimates dead. Dead beings into her little children. And Jessica Priest calls for help from Daniel Kilgore, and he's like, ah, I can't. [00:58:17] Speaker A: I can't get it up. We need to get some of that fucking hymns for him. [00:58:20] Speaker B: He needs some. He needs some hot hymns, some hot hymns. He drains too much energy. Redeemer, he's like, redeemer, step up. But Redeemer's like, yeah, no worries. Blasts him with the holy light again. He just scrows them. Oh, boy. [00:58:37] Speaker A: Boom. He's got such a big beam. [00:58:39] Speaker B: Man, Redeemer is strong as fuck. Jesus. [00:58:43] Speaker A: Yeah, he's pissed, too. [00:58:44] Speaker B: Yeah. Eviscerator's like, ah, no worries. I'll just make some more. Well, we'll kill you. [00:58:50] Speaker A: And then we'll gut them too. [00:58:51] Speaker B: She's like the. You will. And wraps the viscerator's head in this chain. And then. Then, you know, Jessica Priest says, you hear me? She turned into a little bit of Freddy Krueger there. [00:59:05] Speaker A: And little Freddy Krueger. A little Ripley from Aliens. [00:59:08] Speaker B: Yeah. And she just, like, decapitates the viscerator with. With her chains. [00:59:16] Speaker A: Much like he does to the violator in the Spawn movie. Yeah, pretty much exactly the same. [00:59:21] Speaker B: Yeah. Except for the viscerator, like, grows back from both parts. And Redeemer's like, ah, the only way we can keep it from regrowing is to completely demolish every bit. So he. [00:59:34] Speaker A: He unleashes his beam yet again. [00:59:36] Speaker B: Yeah, so. So, like, the viscerator regrows her head, and so then he punches the head off, and then holy beams the rest of the body so that way nothing else can grow. And then the smoke clears, and there's nothing left but some inky spots on the floor. And Kilgore is like, is she destroyed, Jessica? Priest says, who knows, but let's. Let's not wait to find out. [01:00:03] Speaker A: I'll take it. [01:00:04] Speaker B: Go get. Go get Rosen. [01:00:05] Speaker A: They got to pick up Overkill's parts. They'll establish what you can of Overkill. [01:00:09] Speaker B: Yeah. And she's like, redeemer, grab hold of Medieval, and then we're gonna go home. And so then they. Later, they're at the scorched hq, Johnny, and down. Your cogoa is just knocking on the door. He's like, hey, Jessica. Hey, Jessica. We're gonna. We're gonna go drink. I think. Me thinks maybe the Scorch team has a drinking problem, Johnny. [01:00:27] Speaker A: Yeah, they drink a lot. [01:00:28] Speaker B: They're always drinking. Maybe. I think it's almost as if they're in Chicago. [01:00:33] Speaker A: Yeah. As if they live in Chicago. [01:00:35] Speaker B: Oh, man. [01:00:37] Speaker A: I was a big drinking town. [01:00:38] Speaker B: Yes. I guess. Yeah, I guess we should explain that to non Chicago folks. [01:00:42] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:00:43] Speaker B: Yeah. A Chicago sober is definitely a problem anywhere else, so. [01:00:49] Speaker A: Oh, no, we. [01:00:52] Speaker B: We do drink a lot. It is. It is well known. And then, you know, Kogor's trying to get Jessica to come out to come have a drink, and Redeemer's like, ah, man. I think. I think she needs. She wants to be alone, dude. I don't think she feels much like celebrating. And then we end basically where we started with Jessica crying. [01:01:16] Speaker A: Over someone like you. [01:01:19] Speaker B: She's not done. And so she's. [01:01:23] Speaker A: I will say, though, I love a sad girl. She looks hot. [01:01:25] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, yeah. For real. So she's. She's basically finished a whole bottle just thinking about what she's drinking. [01:01:36] Speaker A: This is kind of like gin. [01:01:37] Speaker B: It. It's in a. Yeah, it's in a square bottle. [01:01:41] Speaker A: Whiskey. [01:01:42] Speaker B: It could either be like a Jack Daniels or it could be a gin. [01:01:47] Speaker A: We'd have to. Chugging hot gin. [01:01:49] Speaker B: I'd say. I'd say she's more of a. She looks more like a gin girl. She's. The tears from the first page repeat on this last page, and she throws what she's holding. [01:02:00] Speaker A: We don't know what she's looking at. She's looking at a photo. [01:02:01] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:02:03] Speaker A: And it's a photo of the beginning of her and her daughter. [01:02:06] Speaker B: Yeah. And more than anything, all she asked for was a normal life, Johnny. And that's. That's the note that this issue ends on. We get scorched skull to end it. Oh, man. Oh, man. [01:02:19] Speaker A: Scorch bringing the pathos. [01:02:21] Speaker B: I feel so bad for everybody in this. Everybody in this book. I feel so bad for him, Johnny. [01:02:26] Speaker A: I know. [01:02:26] Speaker B: Over kills in pieces. Mark Rosen's getting the. Jessica Priest is torn between what she needs to do and what she wants. [01:02:35] Speaker A: Demons is trying to hold it together. [01:02:37] Speaker B: Oh, man. He keeps forgetting. [01:02:39] Speaker A: Kilgore doesn't know what's going on. He can't get it up anymore. [01:02:42] Speaker B: Oh, man. We get a Spawning Ground Presents, the Mailbag. And it's a whole bunch of fan art. So we get an Al Simmons spawn issue cover homage. It's very good. It's a spawn with green glowing hands, and he's like. And then another one of Meatball head spawn hiding behind a cape, vampire style, with some necroplasmic flames coming up. [01:03:09] Speaker A: Yeah, those flames are really cool. [01:03:10] Speaker B: Yeah. And then one of Javi with his angel wings just, like, taking a snooze, taking a nap. Which reminds me, Johnny, they need to bring back the goddamn angel wings. [01:03:24] Speaker A: Yeah. What happened to the wings? [01:03:26] Speaker B: What the. What the hell? Like, he sucked them into them, and then they just, like, forgot it was. [01:03:32] Speaker A: Demon wings for one issue. [01:03:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:03:34] Speaker A: Two issues. [01:03:35] Speaker B: The. Yeah. I don't know. [01:03:37] Speaker A: His wings keep coming in and out. What's up with Todd McFarlane and wings? [01:03:41] Speaker B: I don't know. I think they're fun to. Fun to draw. [01:03:43] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:03:45] Speaker B: They give you the ability to have a reason to have one character above the rest of them. It fills up the page. [01:03:52] Speaker A: Fills up the page. Maybe just a big fan of 90s sitcom Wings or. [01:03:57] Speaker B: Or a big fan of the X Men angel. [01:04:00] Speaker A: It could be. [01:04:01] Speaker B: And Thomas says, this is a great piece of gunslinger art. I kind of miss him working with the scorched. Maybe he'll show up again someday. [01:04:09] Speaker A: Yeah. I remember back in the day when it was, like, all of them. [01:04:11] Speaker B: Remember back in the day when he was on the team with Monolith? And then they meet later, and Monolith is like, I've never met you before. [01:04:18] Speaker A: It's like, you scorched me, bro. [01:04:22] Speaker B: You were there when he came up with the name. He can't read, right? [01:04:25] Speaker A: I don't think Monolith was there. [01:04:27] Speaker B: Monolith was. Oh, not at the. The naming. [01:04:30] Speaker A: He didn't come till later. [01:04:31] Speaker B: Yeah, but still, Javi came up with the name, and he wrote it in fire, and he just. [01:04:36] Speaker A: He can't read or write. I'm gonna ask Thomas Ely about that when we have him on next. Just to make him squirm. [01:04:44] Speaker B: He probably has a good. He probably has a Good answer. Chambered. He probably was expecting us to ask it the last time he was on. And so it's just. It's been in there since. [01:04:54] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:04:54] Speaker B: Need more Sponge universe, Johnny? [01:04:56] Speaker A: Yes, I do. Again, to keep the podcast going. [01:04:59] Speaker B: Don't miss these ongoing titles. And it's. All of these ones have come out too. [01:05:03] Speaker A: So for March 2025. Yep. [01:05:07] Speaker B: The image Classics ad again and then the toy ad on the back. Is that issue number one statue. That is gorgeous. But, you know, bit out of the budget of your world's favorite Spawn podcast hosts. [01:05:23] Speaker A: Yeah, you gotta. You gotta. I gotta save it for Switch too. David, how am I gonna get the statue? [01:05:29] Speaker B: Yeah, well, when, you know, you got a long time until that Switch two comes out. Probably. [01:05:37] Speaker A: It comes out in June. [01:05:39] Speaker B: Haven't they pushed it back like twice already? [01:05:41] Speaker A: I guess they did push it back as the tariffs. I don't know if they pushed back the release day. They pushed back the pre order date. [01:05:46] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Well, that's. That's scorched 38, Johnny. [01:05:51] Speaker A: Scorch 38. [01:05:52] Speaker B: It's a good, raucous little time. Yeah. [01:05:54] Speaker A: It's fun and it's got like some, you know, emotion to it. And it's just a great. See, that's the thing. It's like these are both issues. They're both big fights, but this one's done so much better. [01:06:04] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, there's. [01:06:05] Speaker A: Because you have character moments. You have like the action and the words and like, it shows you as opposed to telling you. Whereas Tom McFarland does a lot of telling. [01:06:12] Speaker B: Yeah. So it. It allows. It allows the. The words and the pictures to do separate things instead of making the words and the pictures be the same thing for every panel. [01:06:24] Speaker A: Right. But that kind of sounds like I'm reviewing it. [01:06:27] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, Johnny, I do know that spawn362 has those little goonies, those little minions that look an awful lot like pugs. So I guess that means there are puppies in these issues. So we should probably rate these puppies. [01:06:41] Speaker A: Johnny, it's time to rate the puppies. So first up, we had spawn 362. I think it's a marked improvement over 360 and 361 definitely just is so bonkers and like comic booky. I enjoyed that aspect of it. I loved the art. Like Brett Booth drawing all these characters is just stellar. Like the detail and tremor and the detail and Curse of the Spawn. [01:07:06] Speaker B: It's amazing. [01:07:07] Speaker A: Response is crazy. [01:07:08] Speaker B: It's amazing how clear and like followable everything is because it's It's a lot of stuff in one small little spot. And Brett Booth, just a master of keeping everything. [01:07:20] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:07:21] Speaker B: Visible. [01:07:22] Speaker A: Well, the problem is the script is mainly just them being like, I want you to join us. Like, I don't want to. Okay, we're gonna fight. Okay, maybe we will. I don't know. [01:07:30] Speaker B: Now we're fighting. Maybe. Maybe you changed your mind now that we're fighting. No, I don't think so. Let's fight some more. [01:07:35] Speaker A: It's just classic Todd McFarlane stuff. It's what he like always goes to. And like, I feel like he's like revving. Like he has to like get it out of his system. He got back on Spawn. He's like, okay, we have three big fights in a row. [01:07:46] Speaker B: He's got. He's got. He's got two years of Spawn fights pent up inside of him. And he's just like, I gotta. I gotta get him out of me. [01:07:52] Speaker A: Yeah. Don't love the bulletproof guy. I don't know. It's just so Deadpool. I'm like, what, the little. His little smart and Breadpool. [01:08:03] Speaker B: Breadpool? [01:08:05] Speaker A: Yeah. Why not? [01:08:07] Speaker B: Well then what would he have like a baguette on his back instead of a sword? He's like, yeah, croissant. [01:08:18] Speaker A: Croissant. And then there's the big twist at the end. That Wanda's Mandarin spawn. And it's just like interesting. I want to see where that goes the wild. [01:08:29] Speaker B: It's a wild twist. I'm. I'm. I'm here for a wild twist. [01:08:33] Speaker A: Yeah. But I will give it a three because the art's so good. I think I'll give it a 3.5. [01:08:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:08:40] Speaker A: I would give it 3.5. Goonies. 3.5 little omens. Hugging spawns. Leg. [01:08:45] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh man, they're so great. I still love the. The where it looks like it spawns just like a fed up mother leaving the grocery store. [01:08:54] Speaker A: He's like, I'm taking my kids. We're never coming back here again. Timmy. [01:09:00] Speaker B: I agree. The art is the. If it weren't for the art, I would be so much more harsh on this book than we have been. Yeah. Everything you say holds true. It's just some fight. It's spinning your wheels and fight. That's the Todd father for you. It's fun to see the curse of the Spawn. He's real spooky. Mandarin looks great. The. The twist is good. I think I'm going to give it. I'm going to give it three middle fingers. Johnny from Green Deadpool from Green Deadpool. [01:09:34] Speaker A: Three middle fingers. He's not like other superheroes, David. [01:09:39] Speaker B: No, no, he's. He. He says. He says bad words. [01:09:42] Speaker A: He says naughty words. [01:09:45] Speaker B: He knows. He knows he's in a comic book. [01:09:47] Speaker A: He knows he's in it. And then we have scores.38, which is kind of the. What is that word? Denouement. [01:09:58] Speaker B: Denouement. [01:09:59] Speaker A: Denouement. [01:10:00] Speaker B: Denouement. [01:10:00] Speaker A: How do you say it? Yeah, it's kind of the denouement of this big Vatican thing. It's the come down and final fight and just kind of like exiting that arc. But that was been the Vatican arc has been one of my favorites of Scorch. When they went and rescued Medieval Spawn is great. And this ending doesn't disappoint. You get the emotion with Jessica Priest wondering her place in the Scorch and wondering. [01:10:22] Speaker B: Replacing the world. [01:10:24] Speaker A: Replacing the world. I wonder if she ever get out of this life that she finds herself in. And you get some great action. Yeah, I love like the creepy they're gonna cut his brain out scene. [01:10:35] Speaker B: So like the. Oh, that is nightmare fuel. Imagine a dark cardinal hovering above you with this like, raggedy ass bone saw. Like, it doesn't even look like a sharp. Holy shit. [01:10:49] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:10:49] Speaker B: He was like, I'm just gonna. I'm just gonna cut your skull open. Don't worry about it. [01:10:53] Speaker A: No big deal. Like, the Scorch has been so much fun. The thuz back. What the hell? [01:11:00] Speaker B: I don't. I don't know. I haven't been keeping track of it. [01:11:02] Speaker A: So I don't know when it came back. There's the. The on there. On the COVID Originally it was. It was the scorched and it was scorched. Now it's the Scorched again. I just love this team. I love John Layman and Steven Segovia. It's just been a really solid book. It's the one I'm always looking forward to. [01:11:18] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [01:11:20] Speaker A: Love Jessica, love Redeemer. I love all the characters. Like, it's really great. I just. I can't get enough of the Scorch these days. So I'm gonna give it four and a half little decapitated head creatures. [01:11:36] Speaker B: Oh, man, there's so this a wild. I like this one still has a mustache. [01:11:40] Speaker A: I know. [01:11:41] Speaker B: It's so creepy. Yeah, this. This has been a wild. A wild, raucous ride. It's. Yeah. [01:11:48] Speaker A: The last like four issues just been. [01:11:49] Speaker B: Crazy from start to finish. It's been so good. And it's. It proves that you can have Just an issue that's nothing but a fight. And it'd be fucking great, right? I love the scorched. This, this creative team is just knocking it out of the park. I'm gonna give it five holy beams from Redeemer. He's just like blasting everything else out of the way. It's just so good. I love it. Incredible. [01:12:20] Speaker A: Yeah, nice. [01:12:22] Speaker B: That's those puppies rated Johnny. You know what else is incredible though? [01:12:27] Speaker A: Our friends on Instagram. [01:12:29] Speaker B: Our friends on Instagram. Hell yeah. What do you what you say about maybe shouting out a friend on Instagram? Instagram. [01:12:36] Speaker A: Yeah, definitely. This one is called Hatchet Spawn. [01:12:41] Speaker B: Yeah, that's Hatchet underscore Spawn. And they've got a lot of little action figures and they basically take little videos and like, like introduce the characters and have fun little goof them ups. It's pretty fun. Yeah, that's a good time. There's a, there's a prominent Mandarin spawn posts that they have recently that I felt was appropriate to this, this particular episode. [01:13:10] Speaker A: Okay. [01:13:11] Speaker B: Yeah, they're a fun follow. That's Hatchet underscore Spawn. [01:13:15] Speaker A: Give them a follow. And while you're over there, give us a follow. We are regarding Spawn pod. [01:13:19] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [01:13:20] Speaker A: On Instagram. Reach out to us. Or you can also reach out at. Regarding spawnpodmail.com we've got mail. We'll send us a mail. If you send us your address, we will send you some stickers. We haven't mentioned that in a while, but we sure will. [01:13:34] Speaker B: And if you. If you don't tell us not to read it, we won't read it. But if you there or if you don't tell us not to read it, we will read it. But if you tell us not to read it, we won't. [01:13:44] Speaker A: But we'll read it on air for now. [01:13:45] Speaker B: So. [01:13:46] Speaker A: So send us a letter. And every week I like to ask a question to spur the thoughts. And I'm just wondering what you guys are thinking of the new turn for spawn after Todd McFarlane took over of this like, kind of like very comic booky fight based kind of Todd McFarlane style stuff. Or if you're missing the Rory McConville of it all. Me, I am missing the Rory McConville. I thought he was really setting up some things and new characters and then just kind of like threw it all aside. [01:14:17] Speaker B: It's. It is a little too, too clear cut. [01:14:21] Speaker A: It is just like, boom, new writer. Yeah. It's like. [01:14:23] Speaker B: Okay, we would also accept your response to this being a voice memo in your best Todd McFarland impression about what's happening. That would be great. [01:14:37] Speaker A: Spawns on the roof and the people are coming. I'm turning to Bill Cosby. [01:14:42] Speaker B: It's. It's a. It's. It's a. It's a natural progression because I find myself doing. Doing that, too. It just, like, goes right into. [01:14:49] Speaker A: And there's a new guy. There's a new guy. He's called Bulletproof. He's not like Deadpool at all. [01:14:53] Speaker B: No, no. But he's. He's sassy. He's got a smart mouth. He likes that. He likes to flip the people off. He says Spawn's an. [01:15:00] Speaker A: He thinks Spawn's an. He's got two swords. And we got the new figure. [01:15:05] Speaker B: Now you're becoming kind of a Boston guy. [01:15:07] Speaker A: I don't know what I'm doing. Stop. Stop doing a Tom McFarland impression. Me. [01:15:12] Speaker B: Oh, man. Well, why don't we stop that Todd McFarlane impression also? [01:15:15] Speaker A: I just want to be clear. We love Todd McFarlane. [01:15:17] Speaker B: Yes, yes, absolutely. Well, why don't we stop that Todd McFarlane impression by having you do an impression of somebody who reads comic books and then talks about them on the Internet? Johnny. [01:15:28] Speaker A: Okay, I can do that. Do you want to do that impression next week with a couple new issues? [01:15:32] Speaker B: Yes, I would. Except for I wouldn't like to do it with a couple of new issues. [01:15:35] Speaker A: That's right. Because it's a very special episode. [01:15:37] Speaker B: I would like to do it with a single issue. [01:15:40] Speaker A: A single issue. And we are finally getting to. Yeah, the stars have aligned. We are doing Spawn kills Every spawn number five. With special guests. Rob Sketch Craft Duenas. [01:15:50] Speaker B: Yes. Awesome. We get it. He's. He's got a good. He's got a good time expression impression, so. [01:15:55] Speaker A: Oh, he's got a good one. We'll ask him to bust out a few times. He's got a really good one. [01:15:59] Speaker B: I mean, I don't even think we'll have to ask. I think it'll just happen. [01:16:01] Speaker A: I think it'll just happen. [01:16:03] Speaker B: So, yeah, find yourself in a copy of Spawn Kills Every spawn number five, and come back in a week and listen to us talk to half of the creative team of that book. Rob Sketchcap to anus. [01:16:14] Speaker A: Can't wait. [01:16:15] Speaker B: Awesome. I'm so excited. I'm so pumped. [01:16:18] Speaker A: Yeah. I'm excited to see Rob again. [01:16:20] Speaker B: I got the excitement sweats already. [01:16:21] Speaker A: I thought you were saying your nipples were getting hard. You pointed his chest. What's going on, David? [01:16:27] Speaker B: It was my. My pits. My pits. [01:16:29] Speaker A: Oh, okay. Okay. We've already pits, not tits. [01:16:31] Speaker B: We've already established that you're the creeper of the podcast, so. [01:16:35] Speaker A: Yeah, my nipples are always hard. That's my secret. Captain. [01:16:42] Speaker B: Don't forget to to rate, review, subscribe, tell your friends and family and co workers about us because we love talking about Spawn. And we'll talk about Spawn into the void. But if somebody's listening to us, that's even better. Yes. So with. With nipple talk concluded, Johnny, I think I have nothing else to say. [01:17:02] Speaker A: Except for free the nipple. [01:17:04] Speaker B: That too. But also, may the scorched be with you. [01:17:09] Speaker A: And also with you, David. [01:17:10] Speaker B: Hell yeah. Hell yeah, Johnny. In honor of today, I get to make my favorite joke of all time. And that is. [01:17:18] Speaker A: Okay. [01:17:18] Speaker B: Have a good Friday. [01:17:21] Speaker A: Oh, because we're recording on Good Friday. [01:17:25] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:17:25] Speaker A: Got it. [01:17:26] Speaker B: Yep. It's my favorite joke of the I gotta make it once a year. [01:17:29] Speaker A: Hope you all had a great Easter. [01:17:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:17:31] Speaker A: Hope you had a great 4 20. [01:17:34] Speaker B: I hope you're excited about that re release of episode three. [01:17:39] Speaker A: It's gonna be crazy. [01:17:40] Speaker B: I know. I am very excited. [01:17:42] Speaker A: Yes. I'm very excited. My nipples are hard thinking about it. I'm not a creep. [01:18:24] Speaker B: Sa.
