[00:00:00] Speaker A: Get comfortable, douchebag. You're going to be here a while. Good evening and welcome to the Malibols. This is regarding Spawn, the world's best spawn podcast. I am your co host, John Fisher. [00:00:44] Speaker B: And I am your co host, David Williams. And Johnny, it was. It was only like 72 degrees yesterday. It was pretty awesome. [00:00:54] Speaker A: 72? Fuck you. [00:00:56] Speaker B: Yeah, I had a conference call with my mom and my sister while I was walking home from the train, and they were like. It was. It was. It was only 99 today. And I was like about that. [00:01:10] Speaker A: So let me just get my tally out. David, opening episode, talking about the weather. This is episode 187. So this is the 145th time you've done that. [00:01:21] Speaker B: What else? It's always topical. There's always weather, Johnny. [00:01:25] Speaker A: Always the weather. [00:01:26] Speaker B: It matters whether there will be weather, not what. [00:01:30] Speaker A: Wow, that's. That's. Is that. Is that a quote? [00:01:32] Speaker B: That's the weatherman from the Phantom Tollbooth. [00:01:35] Speaker A: What does he say? [00:01:36] Speaker B: It's more important to know whether there will be weather than what the weather will be. [00:01:41] Speaker A: That's profound because he was. [00:01:43] Speaker B: He's the weatherman spelled with an H. And it's a pun on weatherman with the W, E, A. I get it. [00:01:51] Speaker A: If there's no weather, that means the world's ended. [00:01:58] Speaker B: If there's sharks, there will be. [00:02:00] Speaker A: It was hot as hell in Oklahoma today. [00:02:04] Speaker B: How hot was it? [00:02:06] Speaker A: I felt like I was having a hallucination. I thought I saw the deviant and Becker fighting. I thought I was in hell. [00:02:15] Speaker B: Oh, shit. Oh, shit. Did you see the viscerator in the background there? [00:02:22] Speaker A: Yes. It turned out to be an unhoused lady in downtown Tulsa. [00:02:27] Speaker B: Just like. Just like the crazy cat lady in the Simpsons just throwing cats at you. [00:02:31] Speaker A: David, if you only know how true that was. [00:02:36] Speaker B: Oh, projectile. Cats are no joke, Johnny. [00:02:39] Speaker A: It's true. [00:02:40] Speaker B: It's a dangerous prospect, flying cats, when they. When it's. When it's their idea, when it's against their will. Oh, no. All bets are off. [00:02:50] Speaker A: Yeah. Anytime you see a cat fly, it's not a good thing. No, it's just a tornado of claws. It's just like, give me something to grab onto. [00:03:00] Speaker B: It's kind of. It's kind of how it is. Sometimes when they're just, like, sitting on your lap. Sometimes when they decide they don't want to sit on the lap anymore, they're just like, ah, fuck you. Yeah, exactly like, ah, what the hell? [00:03:12] Speaker A: That's a Jellicle cat, David. [00:03:13] Speaker B: You could have just. You could have just fucking left. Why'd you have to fuck everything up? [00:03:18] Speaker A: What's a Jellicle Cat? [00:03:21] Speaker B: Why don't you tell me? [00:03:23] Speaker A: Jellicle Cats are rather small Jellicle Cats are black and white Jellicons jump like a jumping jack and have a cable or two in the hall Jellicle Cats come out tonight Jellicle Cats Come one, come all the Jellicle moon is shining bright Jellicles come to the Jellicle Ball Nice. [00:03:45] Speaker B: Well, I mean, it's better. It's better to be a Jellicle Cat than to put on some paint and pretend you're someone you ain't. [00:03:53] Speaker A: Who did that? [00:03:55] Speaker B: That's. It's from Facade Johnny. [00:03:58] Speaker A: Oh, it could be someone you. Wait, how'd you go from. Oh, I guess it's a musical. [00:04:03] Speaker B: Yeah, I've been listening to a lot of Jekyll and Hydlet lately. I did. [00:04:08] Speaker A: I did for, like, March to May. I listen to a ton of. I listen to it like once a week. The. The complete co. Hoarding. [00:04:15] Speaker B: But I'm now bouncing around to just the hits from both of them. Yeah, but murder. Murder is a fucking. [00:04:26] Speaker A: Got a killer on the loose. Could be. Could have the one on the Broadway release. [00:04:33] Speaker B: The Broadway cast of Duty. [00:04:35] Speaker A: There are a couple of. The Broadway cast is better, like murders better on the Broadway cast. Yeah, it's a little too. Word, it's a little too chewy. In the concept album, I understand where they kind of tightened it up a bit. [00:04:47] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. They, they, they. [00:04:49] Speaker A: I like Good and Evil, but it's no Bring on the Men. [00:04:52] Speaker B: No. [00:04:53] Speaker A: When I saw it in Tulsa, it was Bring on the Men. They got rid of Good and Evil wasn't in the show. [00:04:57] Speaker B: It's a fucking good one. I love the. I love the chatter in the background. [00:05:02] Speaker A: That's awesome. [00:05:03] Speaker B: Like the. The one. The. The. The other lady who's just like. Yeah. [00:05:09] Speaker A: And I really feel like in this very short amount of audio, like, just great voice acting because, like, I really feel a connection with Lucy and Jekyll. That little scene they have after that song where she's like, yes, it's not. And then Jahe comes back and repeats it to her later and then. [00:05:25] Speaker B: And then kills her. Come on, Hyde, why you gotta be so mean? [00:05:29] Speaker A: It's so funny because I was listening to this on a road trip with my cousin. He was driving me. He was also going to Texas, so he was driving me down to see my dad. And I was listening to this on my cassette player because, like, the radio Was broke. And he's asking me. I was listening to. I was telling Jekyll and Hyde and he's like, is it pretty close to the book? And I'm like, not really. It's like really expansive. He's like, what do you mean? I was like, well, because I had read the book after I saw it. It was like 90 pages. It's a novella. Yeah. And I was, how's the book? And he's like, they find him. He killed himself by himself. And they figured out he was Hyde. It's like a mystery. And it's like the final scene. They like find him. He acted erratically, but he died. He killed himself. And he was. Has the end in the play. I was like, his best friend shoots him at his wedding. [00:06:16] Speaker B: Fantastic. [00:06:17] Speaker A: Which is better. Which is better? [00:06:19] Speaker B: It's better. Speaking of. Speaking of the ending of mysteries, Johnny, it always. I always forget that the. The murderer from Murders in the Room org was a fucking orangutan. [00:06:32] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:06:33] Speaker B: From the goddamn zoo. Just ape pissed off. It was like the first story. [00:06:41] Speaker A: That's a good story. [00:06:42] Speaker B: It is. [00:06:43] Speaker A: I read an H3 Lovecraft collection in college. [00:06:46] Speaker B: I thought that was a. Was that Lovecraft? I thought it was Poe. [00:06:50] Speaker A: It might be Poe. You might be right. You're probably right. [00:06:55] Speaker B: Let's. Let's see. We got the. We got the Internet here. If I could type. He wrote. Okay. [00:07:00] Speaker A: No, okay, love, you're right. It's Poke. Lovecraft wrote a really racist one about a ape that escaped. And it's racist [00:07:12] Speaker B: that Johnny. [00:07:13] Speaker A: But it was Lovecraft. [00:07:15] Speaker B: Yeah, it was Pope Lovecraft writing a racist story. I don't believe it. [00:07:18] Speaker A: I don't believe it. [00:07:19] Speaker B: I don't believe. I. I once checked out, you know, the. A big stack, like the complete works of Lovecraft from the library, and I got maybe like 45 pages into it. So I read roughly 20 stories. [00:07:36] Speaker A: But then like, you revisit read that in the 1800s and this is some fucked up shit. [00:07:39] Speaker B: Some. Some fucked up shit. But it's like it was all. It was all just like. It was like a plot outline. [00:07:46] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:07:47] Speaker B: Is how. This is how the stories read. And I'm like, I don't care about these people. I don't care about these people. [00:07:51] Speaker A: It's just a plot. It's a plot. Yeah. It's like a little. [00:07:55] Speaker B: It's a. It's a summary now. [00:07:57] Speaker A: Yeah, I understand. [00:07:59] Speaker B: I want. I want. I want. [00:08:00] Speaker A: I understand. But his world is cool and like. It was. It's. It's a young writer. It's nice to read. He's like, I got better than that. I was. Rip his ass off. That's just in public domain. [00:08:09] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, fucking. I mean, the concepts that have come out of it, like fucking in the Mouth of Madness is just fucking great. [00:08:18] Speaker A: My second unproduced play was about two college friends, basically me and Tom at the time, finding out he has like an elder God under his apartment. They got a reading at OSU but never got produced. It's called Don't Fear the Scuda. Scuda was sk K D H was the name of the. As some unpronounceable thing. They call him Scooter. [00:08:39] Speaker B: Was that was. Was that going to star you and Tom? [00:08:44] Speaker A: I wouldn't be in it. Probably. [00:08:45] Speaker B: You wouldn't be in it all Tom would. [00:08:46] Speaker A: I wrote the part for Tom. [00:08:49] Speaker B: He would have killed it. [00:08:51] Speaker A: Yeah, we did a reading. It was good. I cast Nick Leos as a. It's a Indian exchange student, like from India. And he did an accent at the reading. It was 2008. [00:09:06] Speaker B: Nine. [00:09:07] Speaker A: Nine. It was nine. [00:09:08] Speaker B: You were a college student. It's. [00:09:11] Speaker A: It was 2009, dude. Yeah, give me a different. Give me a break. So you're putting on paint to be something you ain't. I never. I've never race crossed for a Halloween costume or anything like that. So come at me. Twitter. Come at me. Tick tock. [00:09:28] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, me either. Me either John. [00:09:31] Speaker A: And everyone is Aladdin or Django or something like back in the day. Although someone did try to fight me when we all went as the Inglorious Bastards and we went to the bar at Stonewall and Stillwater after and I was wearing a coat I bought at Army Surplus because they sell to the public. And he was like, that's Stolen Valor. And I was like, it's Halloween, dude. It was literally. It was literally October 31st. [00:09:52] Speaker B: Also, we were very obvious. [00:09:54] Speaker A: The movie had just come out like two months ago. Like, I look like Brad Pitt. I was very sexy. [00:09:58] Speaker B: And then Logan, still sexy. [00:09:59] Speaker A: Logan was the bear Jew. He was Eli Roth, also sexy. And I think that was it Nice. [00:10:07] Speaker B: But I mean, like the. The army surplus. Everybody could go to the army surplus. [00:10:11] Speaker A: Yeah, we're an army Jack and be a hobo if you want to train. [00:10:16] Speaker B: I was just jealous. [00:10:18] Speaker A: That was weird. He was just drunk and wanted to start a fight on Halloween because he struck out probably. [00:10:24] Speaker B: Yeah. Was he. Was he a college student or was he. [00:10:27] Speaker A: He was old. He was like in his 50s or 60s. [00:10:30] Speaker B: Oh, man. The. The old guys who would. Who would just go to the wall for lunch. Were they were either the nicest people you ever met or were just. [00:10:37] Speaker A: He was just fucked up. And I was just like, man, like, I'm not gonna fight you. Like, it's a costume. Inglorious Basterds, if you heard of it, just came out like, I'll do the voice. And he was like, stolen valor. Where'd you get that? I was like, army surplus, dude. It was $18. Yeah. He tried to get mad at me, but we didn't fight. But it's just a weird experience, and I'll never. And one time, Brand in Chicago got harassed on Halloween. [00:11:00] Speaker B: What? [00:11:00] Speaker A: Because we went to, like, we. We just moved there. We moved there, like, August, like, September. It was like, September 16th. Ish. [00:11:08] Speaker B: Okay. [00:11:09] Speaker A: And so, you know, we were a month and a half before we went to Halloween. They were ash, and they had bought, like, a plastic chainsaw that they could strap on their back or wear on their hand. Like, they, like, engineered, like, cut it up and, like, made it, like, a prop dope. And we went to this. We didn't know what the fuck we were doing. It's like walking around Lake View, dude. Like, we didn't know. We just moved there. We didn't know anybody. We're like, lakeview is cool. It's where everyone goes when you're 25. [00:11:36] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:11:36] Speaker A: Like, Bro Town, USA. And we. We walked into a bar on Halloween. I was Scott Pilgrim. I had the shirt, and I had the, like, knit cap and didn't have a beard. I shaved for it. I had a crop katana that we put pink brand made pink flames and put on it. [00:11:57] Speaker B: Nice. [00:11:58] Speaker A: And I had a little sign that said, Scott Pilgrim, 24 years old, rating. Awesome. That was, like, stuck to me. [00:12:04] Speaker B: Nice. [00:12:04] Speaker A: I almost won a costume contest. [00:12:06] Speaker B: Nice. [00:12:07] Speaker A: I got, like. I was in the final five, but the girl went as one of the hosts from MST3K with, like, the robot, and she won. Oh. [00:12:14] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:12:15] Speaker A: That's a good costume. [00:12:17] Speaker B: Props to robots. [00:12:18] Speaker A: But anyway, we went to this one bro bar. Like, some people were dressed up. They just had, like, teeth in, like, a cape on. They weren't, like, really dry. It was, like, a bro bar. And some guy walked up to Bran, and they shook the. The guy, like, shook Bran's chainsaw that was strapped to their back. And he was like, yeah, right. Yeah, right. What do you mean? He was, like, getting really confrontational about us, and we were like, what do you mean? He's like, yeah, right. That's not a real chainsaw. He's like, and goes, no, dude, it's Halloween. Are you crazy? And he's like, you ever heard Evil Dead? And the guy got so mad, he's like, dude looks fake, man. [00:12:54] Speaker B: What? [00:12:56] Speaker A: Yeah, right. Yeah, right. [00:12:58] Speaker B: Could you imagine walking around with a real chainsaw first? That's just. [00:13:02] Speaker A: And then a very kind, like, you know, I don't know, probably a trans person, I think, because we talked to him for a second because they got our attention on the streets. They went, don't cut me with your chainsaw to brand. So that was like a classic meme for us for to this day. [00:13:21] Speaker B: Nice. [00:13:22] Speaker A: It was a fun night. [00:13:23] Speaker B: But, yeah, Scotty Pilgrim. I still. I. I haven't watched Scott Pilgrim. I should watch. [00:13:28] Speaker A: Oh, my God, get over yourself. [00:13:29] Speaker B: Anyway, it's not because I haven't intentionally watched it. It's just I keep forgetting that it exists. [00:13:35] Speaker A: You don't like Edgar Wright movies, David? [00:13:37] Speaker B: No, I think they're all poopy. You know what? Shot of the Dead I do like, Shauna. I like. I can write movies. [00:13:43] Speaker A: I bet you love Hot Fuzz. [00:13:46] Speaker B: I do like Hot Fuzz. I like. I like Subterranean Things. So the fact that they throw all the people in the. The town underneath the town is. It's cool. [00:13:57] Speaker A: Do you like the World's End? [00:14:00] Speaker B: I didn't like the World's End as much. [00:14:01] Speaker A: That's my favorite. That's one of my favorite movies of all time. That's like my number one mean. [00:14:05] Speaker B: It's. It's. It's good. I didn't like it as much as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz. [00:14:09] Speaker A: It's better than both. [00:14:10] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:11] Speaker A: How many times you seen it, David? Once I saw it four times in theaters. [00:14:15] Speaker B: Holy crap. Speaking of theaters, Johnny, did you see the 31 days of horror movies that Regal Cinemas is going to do this year? [00:14:25] Speaker A: AMC sucks. They got like three. [00:14:28] Speaker B: Oh, dang. Yeah, and they're like 7.99 a piece. It's a different one every day. Well, they have in the Mouth of Madness. They have the Blair Witch Project. They got Candyman. They're actually showing both Candymans on the same day, so it's a double feature. They got Trick or Treat. Is Halloween your favorite? Oh, yeah, the Nightmare on Elm Street. I'm gonna have to see. I'm gonna have to see if I can convince ELO to do that. [00:14:52] Speaker A: Didn't you say the Trick or Treat is your favorite movie of all time? Didn't you say that once? [00:14:59] Speaker B: We've. We've discussed this. I don't think it's my Favorite movie. [00:15:02] Speaker A: But didn't you say. That's where you said that. [00:15:04] Speaker B: I said I. I love it. It's great. I think it. I think it might be my favorite, like, short. Short stories. Movies. Yeah, it might be my. My favorite anthology of all time, but I like it a lot. It's a good. It's a good Halloween movie. It's a nice little. I like. I like that it's got a nice little through story that doesn't feel forced. [00:15:28] Speaker A: What about a little anthology, David, that has, across its various tendrils and chains, had probably, I would guess, over 1500 issues. 2000. 2000. [00:15:41] Speaker B: Well, I mean, if Todd McFarland can turn that. [00:15:43] Speaker A: I mean, total, total, total spawn appearance on a page or. No Spawn. Universe related and like spin offs throughout all time. Like, we got to be at least like, what, almost 2000, right? [00:15:57] Speaker B: Probably something like that. [00:15:59] Speaker A: That's my guess. This is off the cuff, baby. [00:16:01] Speaker B: There's a. There's a lot. [00:16:02] Speaker A: There's four. If there's almost 400 mainline spawn. [00:16:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:16:05] Speaker A: And there have been so many miniseries. Okay, maybe like 1500. [00:16:09] Speaker B: Yeah. Maybe closer to 1500. Yeah. Because. Yeah, there's. There's a lot of those. Those miniseries. [00:16:17] Speaker A: There's a lot now. [00:16:19] Speaker B: Yeah. A lot more, too. [00:16:21] Speaker A: So let's chip away at some of these miniseries, and one is an anthology, but one we unfortunately know is a miniseries is coming to an end. [00:16:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:16:33] Speaker A: Did it end? [00:16:36] Speaker B: Both of them have ended. I do believe so. [00:16:38] Speaker A: It's like, okay, 1500 ish issues of Spawn. So that's not one of your favorite anthologies. Did you say any media or just movies? As far as. [00:16:47] Speaker B: It's just movie movie anthologies. Because the thing about the. [00:16:51] Speaker A: One of the other great ones. [00:16:53] Speaker B: Well, there's. [00:16:53] Speaker A: I don't particularly like any of the Crypties. I don't. The first one's pretty good. [00:16:57] Speaker B: First was first. So the problem. The problem with the anthology film is that you always. You always remember the worst ones, and those are the ones that flavor the whole thing. And there's. There's a lot of stinker stories that are just. [00:17:13] Speaker A: You ever seen. Have you ever seen Four Rooms? [00:17:16] Speaker B: Oh, I haven't. [00:17:16] Speaker A: The one that. So it's Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, and two female directors. I can't remember their names from the 90s. And they did an anthology where Tim Roth is a bellhop. Like an overworked bellhop with four rooms. And like Robert Reguez and Tarantino is obviously the strongest. But, like, it's a good cadence and Tim Roth is an amazing performance that [00:17:34] Speaker B: Sounds that sounds you love. [00:17:36] Speaker A: You'd actually probably really like sounds. [00:17:39] Speaker B: It sounds great. I love. I love. [00:17:42] Speaker A: That's an amazing theme song and a cartoon like Pink Panther intro. [00:17:45] Speaker B: Ooh, nice. I love. I love a member of the service industry that like he's overstressed. Dude is like. Has a little bit of. They're the deus ex machina. [00:17:58] Speaker A: Yeah, it's this. I like that one. Some of the VHS's are good. Like I don't. I can't remember which ones. They all kind of blur together. But the later, after like two or three. The VHS have been pretty fun. [00:18:11] Speaker B: I haven't seen any of those. [00:18:13] Speaker A: They're fun. I think I watched the found footage. One is the one I watched. I can't remember. Those are good. And what other anthology movies are there? That's it. There's probably a lot. [00:18:29] Speaker B: As soon. As soon as we get off this episode, I'm going to remember like 14 of them. [00:18:32] Speaker A: We're trying to remember one more. [00:18:36] Speaker B: I don't know now. [00:18:37] Speaker A: Roshumon. [00:18:42] Speaker B: Kinda. [00:18:43] Speaker A: Kinda. [00:18:46] Speaker B: Oh boy. [00:18:47] Speaker A: Fucking film nerd joke. [00:18:49] Speaker B: You. You said found footage and now I can only just think of found footage movies. [00:18:54] Speaker A: You better go see Blair Witch Project at Regal Cinemas. [00:18:56] Speaker B: It's. It's on a Sunday, so I could go see it with Eloi. [00:19:00] Speaker A: I saw it first on a Sunday [00:19:03] Speaker B: for the first time ever. [00:19:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:19:05] Speaker B: On a Sunday. [00:19:05] Speaker A: Yeah, I remember. It was a Sunday afternoon. [00:19:08] Speaker B: Like. Nice. Very exciting. [00:19:12] Speaker A: August 20th. August 1999. [00:19:16] Speaker B: 1999. Wow. [00:19:20] Speaker A: Wow. But yes, Spawn is one of the great anthologies. All of his permeations and universes. And now interesting sees. Go ahead. [00:19:33] Speaker B: Oh, I was gonna say now all I can think of is a Spawn anthology book drawn by Sketchcraft that has the little Chibi Spawn with a little. [00:19:42] Speaker A: A little. [00:19:43] Speaker B: A little bubble pipe, like he's from Masterpiece Theater. [00:19:47] Speaker A: Do you remember. Do you remember Dark Horses, Star Wars Tales from the late 90s? That was awesome. Yeah, because they had Tag and Binker Dead. It was like a sequel to that, but it was like a parody version of like the goings on. But oh man, there's so many great little stories. [00:20:03] Speaker B: I bought a collection of them, I guess about a decade ago now. [00:20:09] Speaker A: Those are good. [00:20:10] Speaker B: There was. There was a. There was a story that was. It was a garth Ennis, John McCrae collaboration. And it was about the stormtrooper who was just like a son of a bitch his whole life. And like he was just like. Just like a fucking. Absolute beast of a fucking marine stormtrooper. And he's the first one like the story ends with him being the first one to get shot storming the. The Hammerhead Corvette. [00:20:38] Speaker A: Oh, that's awesome. [00:20:40] Speaker B: In A New Hope. It was. It was fucking phenomenal. [00:20:43] Speaker A: Or in Rogue One. [00:20:45] Speaker B: Oh, Rogue One. [00:20:48] Speaker A: Let's not get this. Go down that rabbit hole. We love anthology comics. We love comics. And we're talk. [00:20:58] Speaker B: Yes. [00:20:58] Speaker A: About Rat City 23. The soon to end and the soon to end story arc, which is more of an anthology. The one I said is an anthology is Sam twitch case files 23. [00:21:11] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [00:21:12] Speaker A: Because we are respawn regarding Spawn, where each week will bring you two issues of Spawn's universe. Except when we do not. [00:21:20] Speaker B: We're so good about putting that right at the beginning so people know what this is. [00:21:26] Speaker A: We like five minutes of side talk. It'll be fine. [00:21:32] Speaker B: And Johnny, this week is no different because as you said, we have two issues from sponsor universe. One of them even says a Spawn Universe title on right on the COVID Both of mine. [00:21:44] Speaker A: Both of mine say it. [00:21:46] Speaker B: Oh, well, this one's naked, so. [00:21:48] Speaker A: Oh, you got a naked cover. [00:21:50] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:51] Speaker A: Oh, you might serve some online controversy. [00:21:57] Speaker B: Controversy. [00:21:59] Speaker A: That's a. That's a joke from the World's End. He's pronounced that way at one point. [00:22:07] Speaker B: See, if I'd seen it more than once. [00:22:08] Speaker A: If you've seen him four times in theaters, you're fucking. [00:22:10] Speaker B: If I'd seen it more than once. 20 years ago. [00:22:13] Speaker A: It wasn't 20 years ago. [00:22:16] Speaker B: Almost 20. [00:22:17] Speaker A: Because 2014. [00:22:19] Speaker B: 12. Really? [00:22:21] Speaker A: I think it's 2014. Yeah. [00:22:23] Speaker B: I thought it came out while we were in college. Still Dan. [00:22:25] Speaker A: No, I was in Chicago 100. [00:22:28] Speaker B: I'm thinking of Hot Fuzz. [00:22:29] Speaker A: Let's think of Hot Fuzz. [00:22:34] Speaker B: That's what I'm thinking about. I'm thinking about some Hot Fuzz. [00:22:38] Speaker A: Because you're thinking of Sam Twitch. They are the hot fuzz. [00:22:42] Speaker B: I am. I was gonna make a Fozzie Bear joke. [00:22:45] Speaker A: I love. I love Timothy Dalton in that is the grocery store manager. Here come the fuzz. He's just like, I'm a positively a slasher. [00:22:54] Speaker B: Like, [00:22:57] Speaker A: it is him the whole time. It's everybody. It's fun. [00:23:00] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, it's fun. [00:23:01] Speaker A: It's very cozy. You. It's very David coded. [00:23:06] Speaker B: I like it. I like a cozy film. I like it cozy. Especially when there's some heinousness in it. That's what's so good about the first knives out is it's, like, fucking cozy as hell. [00:23:18] Speaker A: 3 was pretty good. [00:23:20] Speaker B: 3 was great. I've liked all of them. I mean, the second one, it's the weakest of the three so far, but [00:23:24] Speaker A: you gotta go big, and then you can bring it back. There's a cadence to it. [00:23:28] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Also, Johnny, there is a cadence to Red City, and it is a good one. [00:23:38] Speaker A: We'll start. What does cadence start with, David? [00:23:41] Speaker B: It starts with a C. What else [00:23:43] Speaker A: starts with a C? [00:23:44] Speaker B: Cookie. [00:23:46] Speaker A: What else starts with a C? [00:23:49] Speaker B: Cover. [00:23:50] Speaker A: Correct. Oh, [00:23:57] Speaker B: We've gone slap happy, Johnny. Yeah, we have, indeed. [00:24:01] Speaker A: That's good. [00:24:02] Speaker B: Yeah, it's fun. [00:24:04] Speaker A: I was telling Megan about my day, and she was like, yeah, I'm tired too. I'm wiped. I'm like. She said, I'm wiped too. Like, explain her day. And I was like, I saw us record an episode of a podcast. [00:24:16] Speaker B: You have to. You have to. Because I told you, you have to. And I'm not. [00:24:19] Speaker A: I made the date. [00:24:21] Speaker B: I'm not gonna mail you the key to get you unchained from that chair until you finish this episode, Johnny. [00:24:27] Speaker A: That's what he does to me, folks. [00:24:28] Speaker B: What I do. I chain him to a chair from three states away. [00:24:34] Speaker A: Very spawn like powers. [00:24:36] Speaker B: I just. I just bike there in the dead of night, come up to your house, just huffing and puffing. [00:24:42] Speaker A: Like. Hold. [00:24:44] Speaker B: Hold on a second. Let me check when you sleep. [00:24:46] Speaker A: That would take, like, 25. [00:24:49] Speaker B: How many hours it would take so long to do that? [00:24:53] Speaker A: Brand did it. Yeah. Well, I have the A cover. [00:24:57] Speaker B: I also have the A cover. [00:24:58] Speaker A: What? [00:25:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:25:02] Speaker A: Wow. [00:25:02] Speaker B: A cover. Cover. A. Well, that's because the B cover was just the black and white. And the problem with the black, it [00:25:07] Speaker A: doesn't even list the COVID Oh, listen, there's only a cover. Yeah, right. [00:25:11] Speaker B: The. The problem with the black and whites is as soon as I put them in my bag, they. They get. If I don't take them out soon enough, they get like a. They look dirtier sooner just from the sheer rubbing up against all the other stuff I got in my bag. [00:25:24] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:25:25] Speaker B: So I don't like to get the. I don't like to get the black and white covers, Johnny. But, yeah, it's. It's good. It's the. It's the deviant, and he's Spider Manning there just on. I like this sort of, like, cyberpunk nod to what would be a gargoyle in the future city. [00:25:44] Speaker A: Yes. [00:25:45] Speaker B: It's just. It's just like a brutalist little chunk. [00:25:49] Speaker A: It's pretty cool, though. [00:25:51] Speaker B: Yeah, it's great. And he's got his claws, and he's got like the. The. That's the only. The Only way you can describe it. It's like a little. [00:26:04] Speaker A: It's like the Smash Brothers logo. It's like a flash. [00:26:07] Speaker B: Yeah. Or like. Like a. Like a sun. [00:26:10] Speaker A: A lens flare. A lens flare. Yeah. [00:26:14] Speaker B: Or I was thinking like the sun glinting off the. Off of a sword in a cartoon. Gives a little. But yeah. That cover. This cover is by Harvey Tollebao with Kevin Tolobal, I guess, doing the. The cut. The. The colors. So maybe it's a joint effort by two individuals who I'm going to assume are related. In what way? I do not know, but they have same lesson. [00:26:46] Speaker A: Oh, my God. David. [00:26:48] Speaker B: What? [00:26:49] Speaker A: Nothing. [00:26:51] Speaker B: I know nothing about them. I don't want to make an assumption about anything. [00:26:54] Speaker A: Don't ever assume anything. [00:26:56] Speaker B: Don't ever assume anything. [00:26:58] Speaker A: I'm gonna assume that we should read the credits next. [00:27:01] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. We should probably pop open this cover to get those credits, huh? [00:27:04] Speaker A: So we got script plot by Erica Schultz. Art by Zay Carlos. [00:27:07] Speaker B: Hell yeah. [00:27:08] Speaker A: Color by J. David Ramos. Lettering dipping, double duty, Erica Schultz. We already covered the covers. Creative director is one Todd McFarland. No additional script. Denied. Get. [00:27:24] Speaker B: Get at it. Get out of here. [00:27:25] Speaker A: Get out of here, Todd. [00:27:28] Speaker B: Why don't you make like a tree? Get out of here. [00:27:32] Speaker A: Editor in chief, the respectable Thomas. Previously in Rat City. The progeny has attained their true form and seek to rest control of hell from the viscerator. [00:27:46] Speaker B: Now that is a Previously on blurb. [00:27:50] Speaker A: Johnny, I guarantee Erica Schultz is like, can I just write my own blurbs for you? [00:27:55] Speaker B: Definitely. She's like, I remember what I wrote for the last issue, Todd. So let me. Let me do it. [00:28:02] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:28:03] Speaker B: Yeah, I guess. I guess a level setting where we are. We're in the middle of the fight between the progeny and Eviscerator. As. Because the progeny revealed their true form. [00:28:18] Speaker A: Well, while they're Peter fights Decker. [00:28:22] Speaker B: Yeah. They're champions. They're. Is that what we're gonna call. [00:28:24] Speaker A: Yes, they're. They're pawns, David. They're pawns. [00:28:28] Speaker B: Yes, they're pawns. So we got. We got eat. Hell yeah. [00:28:36] Speaker A: Eons ago. [00:28:37] Speaker B: Eons. [00:28:43] Speaker A: What does it say? [00:28:44] Speaker B: It says eons. [00:28:45] Speaker A: Oh, if it's an eons like Ghostbusters, [00:28:49] Speaker B: could you imagine just a little eon? I mean, Egon's got some pretty spectacular hair. He could fit in with the. He could fit in with Malbol. [00:28:56] Speaker A: He's got to get Mount Bulga hair. Yeah, in the. [00:28:59] Speaker B: In the real Ghostbusters. Yeah, with the big weird pompadour thing. It's like a tube Yeah, I don't know. It doesn't have to make sense, Johnny. It's cartoons. Yeah, but we start hell eons ago, as you said. And oh, Johnny, it's. Oh, it's the progeny. He's got the. He's got the whole progeny in his hands there, Johnny. They're just hanging out in Malbolge's palm now. So there's a little bitty. [00:29:28] Speaker A: Oh, the babies. [00:29:30] Speaker B: Little babies. Look at that cute little puppy dog. Little bitty, little bitty. And we start with Malbolsha, just like monologuing, saying, I have fathered offspring before, but none as good as you. [00:29:46] Speaker A: You're the best motherfucker. [00:29:48] Speaker B: Yeah, you are. [00:29:51] Speaker A: Then we get a nice belly shot with all that hair, baby. [00:29:54] Speaker B: Yeah. And he's just like, everybody in hell. Look at my children. [00:29:58] Speaker A: Haha. [00:29:58] Speaker B: They're my children. Like, gather around my vassals. Pay homage to the true heirs of hell. You will protect them with all you are. I like how he gives the little fox the little pet on the head and the fox is like so cute. I wonder, I wonder how the meeting between Zay Carlos and Erica Schultz went on this. I wonder how many times she had to be cuter. Cuter. Cuter or if she had to be like less cute. [00:30:30] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:30:31] Speaker B: That would have been a fun meeting, though. And then we cut from there to the, you know, the viscerator, all the [00:30:41] Speaker A: Darth Mauls, man, all of my Bulger's little Darth Mauls, his little Darth tyrannises sitting around his little puppets. You got the clown, you got, you know, Violator slash clown. You got viscerator. Get some fucking spiky ass, dude. [00:30:56] Speaker B: Yeah, you got the. One of those demons with like the stacked eyes and the wings. [00:31:01] Speaker A: All those little, all those little lackeys, [00:31:04] Speaker B: these little Grumpy Gus's is what they. [00:31:06] Speaker A: Yeah, they're like, man, I like this new kid. [00:31:08] Speaker B: Yeah. And you know, they're. They just start tormenting the progeny. The clown picks up the. The little mouse one and flings him to the ground. And it's like, oh, it's so sad when he flings the mouse to the ground and they're like, oh. All the rest of my. Like, oh, no, look at the snake. Even the snake's like, oh, Cuz. Yeah, I do like that. When the clown picks up the. The rat, they're like, how dare you touch us, you inferior beasts. And he says, we'll show you inferior, you little shits. And then we cut from there too. The viscerator fighting the progeny and their. And their emo goth get up. Eviscerator says you speak lies. Malbolia never spoke that kindly, and we were far more cruel, which. Oh, she just. She's just like, luxuriating of being a terrible, terrible person. Progeny just like, it goes far and shoot some project. [00:32:17] Speaker A: Looks like a Castlevania character in a good way. That's a compliment. That's a compliment. [00:32:20] Speaker B: Yeah. And then he. They, like, shoot like. [00:32:24] Speaker A: Like a bad guy in Bayonetta or something. [00:32:26] Speaker B: Like, shoots feathers at Viscerator. Is that what those are? Yeah, they look like feathers. And just like one of them catches her. Yeah. And so they just, you know, they continue to fight. And then, you know, Eviscerator's like, I'm the. I'm the true. I'm the true inheritor of hell. She says my mastery of the environment is proof. [00:32:52] Speaker A: And she's just, like, manipulating the ground, the flames. And the progeny's like, lies. [00:32:57] Speaker B: Yeah. And then. And then we cut from there to. To the deviant fighting. What's his name? Name? [00:33:08] Speaker A: Becker. Right. [00:33:09] Speaker B: Becker. We cut to the deviant fighting Becker, and they're just like. Like, the deviant looks like he tried his. His little scorpion attack and be like, get over here. And Becker was just like. And cut the cape. And then, you know, then they just start beating the. Out of each other. And it's pretty great. This. This issue just clips by because it's just some excellent fighting. And the. And Peter. Peter's just like. I start. I just start giving it to Becker. Like I give him. I give him that he isn't even responsible for. And, like, you know, we see some blasts to Peter's past with some bully. Some children bullying him when his brother is. Died dead, which. That's not a good look. What the fuck you gonna. What the fuck are you gonna. Also a kid for having a bad brother. [00:34:00] Speaker A: Well, I want to point out we've skipped over it, but I was looking it up. Is a German now, meaning a little lad, youngster, or cheeky fellow Becker calls Peter. [00:34:14] Speaker B: He says, come here, little brushinn. That's. I guess that's his. Get over here. Get over here. [00:34:20] Speaker A: Oh, my God. I just watched all four Mortal Kombat movies in the last two weeks. [00:34:24] Speaker B: Oh, nice. Get over here. [00:34:27] Speaker A: One, two. The original two, actually not as bad. Yeah, which is not. If they hadn't recast Raiden and like, Sonia and Johnny, it could have been pretty cool. [00:34:39] Speaker B: Did you. Did you also watch the. The one hour cartoon movie that takes Place before the original one. [00:34:48] Speaker A: Yes. The journey begins. [00:34:50] Speaker B: Oh, it's necessary. You need to know why they're fighting. [00:34:53] Speaker A: Then it goes into 3D at that one point. [00:34:57] Speaker B: That was the first one I saw because I was like, oh, my mom will let me watch this because it's not rated R. And then, and then nobody fought. So I was like, what the. Where's the fight? [00:35:07] Speaker A: You like the first movie, the original? [00:35:10] Speaker B: I mean, I've only seen it the once and it was a long time ago, but I remembered enjoying it. [00:35:15] Speaker A: It's a good movie. It's great. [00:35:16] Speaker B: I should probably watch him again. [00:35:20] Speaker A: Then I watched the new three, Mortal Kombat, the third movie. And that was pretty good. [00:35:25] Speaker B: That was. [00:35:26] Speaker A: That one was two was okay. It wasn't my favorite. [00:35:28] Speaker B: I haven't seen that one yet. [00:35:30] Speaker A: It was a little too marvelly for me. [00:35:32] Speaker B: But I did, I did, I did do remember really enjoying it. Being the middle of COVID and just being like, oh, yeah, Mortal Kombat. [00:35:40] Speaker A: Yeah, it's good. [00:35:41] Speaker B: That's just. It's just two hours of people beating the shit out of each other. It was great. [00:35:45] Speaker A: It was fun. [00:35:47] Speaker B: It didn't take itself too seriously. And I liked that. [00:35:50] Speaker A: I would rank them. Original Mortal Kombat, technically the third movie, but the new reboot is number two. Then Mortal Kombat Annihilation, then the new Mortal Kombat 2. [00:36:02] Speaker B: Nice that. I would give that a toasty. [00:36:10] Speaker A: So they're doing a Mortal Kombat and he's getting over here and they're chaining each other and they're pulling each other around. Yeah, like you said, they bring up that bad memory of him being a kid. [00:36:20] Speaker B: And then they bring up. And then there's like a flashback to an actual time in the past where they were. They were technically on the same team and Becker was just being a dick hole about it. So they're. They're in battle and they're running across this field and their. Their commander gets hit right in the. He gets Charlie Kirk's Johnny. Here's the Charlie Kirk treatment. [00:36:45] Speaker A: True. [00:36:46] Speaker B: Right in the nick. And so Peter Cairn, obviously the. The one who cares about people is just like, oh, shit, we got it. We gotta help this guy. And Becker just comes over and is just like being a dick about it. And so what's his name? Yankee Simray. Yankee Simray. Rhys. And Rhys comes over and is like, Peter. Okay, Peter, you gotta. You gotta let him go. He's dead. And you know, I like this little. This little balance that always shows that, you know, Becker, technically, maybe might be right in that Commander's dead, but he doesn't have to be a dick about it. And it takes Rhys being like, hey, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta treat people with respect, Becker, you piece of shit. Yeah, Gotta say, come on, Yankee, that's an order. Becker never had any respect for life. Still doesn't. [00:37:39] Speaker A: And they're still wailing on each other, [00:37:41] Speaker B: so why should I respect. Why should I have respect for him now? [00:37:49] Speaker A: Let's find out. [00:37:50] Speaker B: And like, just pulls. Pulls the chain that he's got wrapped around Becker's neck and just like, makes his head go, turns around all the way around. Peter's like, huh, I guess you can die in hell. And then. And then Becker's body, just like it's covered in the viscerator's little demon children that she made with that fucking. What's his face. And the scorched. [00:38:19] Speaker A: Yes. Oh, I knew Carter. [00:38:22] Speaker B: Bishop. [00:38:23] Speaker A: Bishop. Yeah. [00:38:27] Speaker B: I was like, wait, he wasn't a bishop. No, his name was Bishop. And you know, Becker's just like, like bringing his body up and his head's all like, wampity John. And he's just laughing. We are not done yet. Yankee, attack the deviant children. Eviscerator. And it's these little skulls. [00:38:48] Speaker A: Crabbies. And they bury him. [00:38:49] Speaker B: Yeah, you can't breathe. Yeah, there's too many of them. [00:38:54] Speaker A: Come back. Eviscerator or Sorry, Eviscerator versus. [00:39:00] Speaker B: Versus. The progeny. [00:39:01] Speaker A: Yes. And she's like, haha, I killed your champion. [00:39:06] Speaker B: She's like, yeah, he's dead. My children have overwhelmed the deviant of hell spawn. She says, I am the rightful ruler of hell. Say it. The progeny says, never. And Sylvester's like, becker, get over here. Help me kick this. This, this thing's had. [00:39:22] Speaker A: Get over here. [00:39:24] Speaker B: Come and a your queen. [00:39:26] Speaker A: He's like, I'm here, my love. [00:39:28] Speaker B: He says, my liba mina liba. Yeah, he just. He just like leaps into the air. Look at how high he leaps, man. [00:39:35] Speaker A: But then the crabs pull back and where Peter was, there is no. [00:39:40] Speaker B: There's no. There's no, there's nothing. There's nothing. [00:39:42] Speaker A: Well, they didn't need him. They didn't eat him. [00:39:44] Speaker B: No, they didn't need him. Johnny, Johnny, I have a hypothesis. [00:39:47] Speaker A: What's your hypothesis? [00:39:48] Speaker B: I have a hypothesis that the deviant used the shadows created by. When it was covered by the viscerator's children. [00:39:57] Speaker A: I reject your hypothesis. One of the best quotes of all time. You know what that's from? [00:40:03] Speaker B: What? [00:40:04] Speaker A: There's an interview With Quentin Tarantino after the premiere at, like, Canes or some European festival of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. And some reporters stood up and said, you have Margot Robbie, third bill. But she doesn't have nearly as many lines. Like, she doesn't speak a lot in her scenes, and she doesn't have as many lines as the male characters. Like, why is that? He leans in the microphone and Quintin sits there for like 30 seconds. He goes, I reject your hypothesis. That's all he said. I was like, that's brilliant. [00:40:37] Speaker B: That is brilliant. That's brilliant. You know what else is brilliant? Johnny the skull to end the issue. Because it's a good issue. [00:40:43] Speaker A: It's brilliantly green. [00:40:45] Speaker B: So fucking. So fucking short, though. It's just. It just. [00:40:48] Speaker A: This is action packed. [00:40:49] Speaker B: Yeah, there was a lot in there, but it just went by so quick. [00:40:52] Speaker A: It's good. [00:40:54] Speaker B: Then we got the new generation, new stories, new you ad always. Yep, yep, yep, yep. With Sam and Twitch, Deadly tales, Spawn, the Dark Ages, the Image Classics ad. [00:41:05] Speaker A: We had a new toy ad. We had this specific one before. [00:41:08] Speaker B: Yeah, the Fallout Elite edition. [00:41:10] Speaker A: And that's the power armor. [00:41:11] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. It's pretty good. Looking pretty good. [00:41:15] Speaker A: Looks pretty good. [00:41:16] Speaker B: Yeah, it does. [00:41:17] Speaker A: Then we got something that's gonna make David go crazy. [00:41:19] Speaker B: Oh, man. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle page punchers. I've been. I've been trying to find those, but. Because, I mean, you know, I gotta. You know, I gotta find that one with Leonardo on it. Leonardo's my boy. [00:41:29] Speaker A: Yeah, that's. [00:41:30] Speaker B: That's how you can tell I'm the uncool, cool one of the group. Because my favorite turtle was Leonardo. [00:41:37] Speaker A: I was Michelangelo or Raphael. [00:41:39] Speaker B: Yeah, that's the cool people liked. It's cool. [00:41:42] Speaker A: My brother was Donatello, though, so. [00:41:44] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, nice. [00:41:45] Speaker A: The. [00:41:45] Speaker B: The nerds were Donatello. The. The sticks in the mud were Leonardo and Johnny. That was me. [00:41:54] Speaker A: My brother was Leonardo Dontello guy. I was a Mike Raft guy. [00:41:58] Speaker B: Yeah, you're a party. You're a rude. You're a rude but cool party dude. [00:42:04] Speaker A: I'm rule. But Raphael is crude, but is rude, but rude but cool. And Michelangelo is a party dude. [00:42:10] Speaker B: Yeah, Donatello does machines. Leonardo just leads. That's all he does. He leads. [00:42:17] Speaker A: He's just good. He's like Liu Kang or Luke Skywalker. [00:42:21] Speaker B: Those are some good looking foot clansmen. [00:42:24] Speaker A: This figure's great. They look better than the Spawn page punchers. They have more articulation, that's for sure. [00:42:29] Speaker B: Hey, I like the. The one with spawn and anti spawn. Those are. Those are. [00:42:33] Speaker A: Yeah, those are great figures. [00:42:34] Speaker B: Those. Those are great ones. [00:42:35] Speaker A: The Auger's gunslinger ain't too great. You gotta pick Oscar. You picked Auger. [00:42:41] Speaker B: You pick Auger. Auger. [00:42:43] Speaker A: Auger. I think Linda over Auger. [00:42:48] Speaker B: Linda action figure would have been awesome. Could you imagine? [00:42:52] Speaker A: I would love it. [00:42:54] Speaker B: Like a little Wyatt and a little Linda. [00:42:56] Speaker A: Do you know the girl who played a little. A little bottle of pills, you know, so sad. [00:43:02] Speaker B: Lex, like the. The TV show Lex. [00:43:05] Speaker A: The girl who played Lex in Jurassic park when she found out they weren't making an action figure of her character. She like ball. Oh, no, they didn't. [00:43:14] Speaker B: Yeah, they. They. [00:43:15] Speaker A: Ellie. Series two had a Hammond and a. No, Series two had a Ian Malcolm. They added Ian Malcolm. They never added Lex. And I think they added Hammond. It was originally was Grant, Ellie, Tim Muldoon for the good guys and then Dennis Nedry for the bad guys. [00:43:43] Speaker B: That they. That they did. That they did. The little boy and not the. And not his sisters. Yeah, Veggie Source. It's Veggie Source. Lex. [00:43:51] Speaker A: Yeah, she come with, like, a. [00:43:54] Speaker B: She got sneezed on. [00:43:55] Speaker A: That would have a laptop that had a rocket launcher on it. [00:43:58] Speaker B: That would have been. That would have been a great little. A little action set where you've got. You've got her and then you've got [00:44:05] Speaker A: Brachiosaurus. [00:44:06] Speaker B: Not sneezing. Brachiosaurus. Yeah. [00:44:09] Speaker A: RIP Sam Neill. Today was his birthday. [00:44:12] Speaker B: Oh, really? [00:44:12] Speaker A: Or yesterday. Yes, yesterday was Samuel's birthday. [00:44:16] Speaker B: Oh, dang. [00:44:17] Speaker A: All right. [00:44:17] Speaker B: R.I.P. he was. He was. He's a fun person to watch, even. Even in movies that I hate, but can't stop thinking about. [00:44:25] Speaker A: You ever see the Omen 3 with him where he plays Damian? [00:44:28] Speaker B: It's like a. I've not seen any Omen. [00:44:31] Speaker A: What? [00:44:34] Speaker B: Saying I have a hole I need to fill in my. [00:44:36] Speaker A: At least the Omen. Oh, my God. Yes. [00:44:39] Speaker B: Okay. [00:44:40] Speaker A: I think it's just as scary as the Exorcist. [00:44:42] Speaker B: I'll try to. I'll try to remember it. I don't know if I was scared by the Exorcist. [00:44:46] Speaker A: I was. [00:44:48] Speaker B: I think. I think I. [00:44:50] Speaker A: What movie scared you, David? [00:44:52] Speaker B: What movie scared me? Oh, fuck. Well, the first Evil Dead scared the piss out of me. [00:44:58] Speaker A: It's scary. [00:44:59] Speaker B: It was. It was intense. Trying to think. I think the last thing that, like, truly shook me was the Haunting of Hill House. That's not a movie, that's a miniseries. But that's. That's the last. The last thing I watched new that. That, like, gave me. Like, I was like. I Have to turn on lights in my house. Yeah, yeah, that was good. And then, yeah, I think, I think it was Everybody, everybody that I watched the Exorcist with was just like, this is the scariest fucking thing ever. And so I thought it was going to be more than it was. And I wasn't actually. I was too young to really pay attention to the story. So I think not having an emotional investment in it made it less scary. [00:45:45] Speaker A: 24 or 25 probably. [00:45:47] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. I think it's. I think it's one of those that before a certain age you're just looking for the gore, the nastiness in it. And there wasn't enough nastiness in it for it to really fulfill me when I saw it as a 13 year old. But I think, I think if I had seen it later, you got to see. [00:46:05] Speaker A: Either see it before you're 13 or after you're 18. [00:46:08] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Because that's, that's a lot of things that I watch. I'll re watch something now that I saw when I was a teenager and I was like. I missed out on like all of the. About this. That is actually good because I was an idiot who didn't understand people. [00:46:24] Speaker A: Yeah, well, no, you didn't have a. [00:46:27] Speaker B: You're. [00:46:27] Speaker A: You're growing up. What is media drench as mine? I had cable and my mom would rent us PG13 movies all the time. [00:46:34] Speaker B: And well, but also, you know, you know, you gotta. Emotional intelligence takes a long time to build. And a lot of, A lot of the things that I both love to watch and hate to watch now prey on that sort of emotionality and that, that, the weight. [00:46:51] Speaker A: Sure. [00:46:52] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:46:53] Speaker A: Last thing that really scared me. Movies like Hereditary Mid Song. [00:47:03] Speaker B: Oh, fuck it. Hereditary did freak me the fuck out. [00:47:07] Speaker A: There's a documentary on Netflix called the Nightmare about night terrors that actually scared me the most. [00:47:12] Speaker B: You've told, you've told me about that. Yeah, I don't think I want to watch that. [00:47:15] Speaker A: It follows. Kept me up a bit. [00:47:17] Speaker B: It follows was fun. [00:47:19] Speaker A: Conjuring 2. [00:47:22] Speaker B: Conjuring 2. I still can't believe that works. The conjuring one's gonna be in the, the regal thing. [00:47:29] Speaker A: Oh, nice. [00:47:31] Speaker B: I just. Every time, every time I see like an overbloated movie, I'm hoping it's gonna turn out like the Conjuring 2. [00:47:38] Speaker A: But it's crazy because I have, I [00:47:40] Speaker B: have no idea how it fucking works. But it is, it is really, it is really frightening having that all of those children's nightmares be in that One building. Because of all the children that have been there. Scary ghosts. [00:47:56] Speaker A: Bill Wilkins. [00:47:58] Speaker B: R City 23. [00:48:01] Speaker A: Bill Wilkins. Next up, we have Sam twitch case files 20, 24. Number 23, strawberry. [00:48:30] Speaker B: It's strawberry letter number 23, Johnny. That's what it says. [00:48:34] Speaker A: What? [00:48:35] Speaker B: Strawberry letter number 23. What is that song? It's a song. [00:48:39] Speaker A: By who? The who? No, I haven't heard of it. [00:48:46] Speaker B: It's an old funk song. [00:48:48] Speaker A: I don't know. I remember Dune. Sing it for me. [00:48:54] Speaker B: I'm trying to remember how it goes. It's. It's. It's famously been sampled a lot. [00:49:01] Speaker A: You talking about Raspberry Beret? [00:49:03] Speaker B: No, but you know, that is. That is. That is a good one, man. I. Fucking, man. Prince was good, Johnny. Controversial opinion. Prince. Excellent musician. [00:49:15] Speaker A: It's true. [00:49:16] Speaker B: He's like, if Frank Zappa didn't try to be funny. Both. Both similarly intense, though, I think think probably both perfectionists. Yes. [00:49:32] Speaker A: We love. [00:49:33] Speaker B: That's got to be hard to work for. There's. There's just like anytime that there's any musician who was like, yeah, I worked for Frank Zappa. He completely destroyed me as an individual because he was so demanding. [00:49:45] Speaker A: What do you think Tobias Forge is like in Ghost? Ooh. They seem like they don't like each other. Yeah, they're very playful. The. [00:49:53] Speaker B: The only. I remember a while ago, there was, like. There was one formal, faceless ghoul who came forward and was just like, we had to wash our own robes. And it was just like, okay, okay, you gotta wash your work uniform. That's fine, dude. [00:50:09] Speaker A: Welcome. Working in the arts, dude. [00:50:11] Speaker B: Yeah, but, you know, I think. I think. I think it's probably a good time, especially. Especially because after a certain point, like, session musicians were like, I want this job. I want this job. So people. People wanting to join the. The collaboration, I think helps. [00:50:28] Speaker A: It's probably a fun show to do. [00:50:30] Speaker B: Yeah, I bet. I bet it's fun as hell. [00:50:33] Speaker A: Just back up. Like, lady goulettes look like they have the best time. [00:50:36] Speaker B: Yeah. Or like when they bring up the. [00:50:38] Speaker A: The. [00:50:39] Speaker B: The. The sisters on the risers. [00:50:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:50:42] Speaker B: That's got to be fun. Oh, was that good Buddha? So what I was about to say, this dog just, like, woke up to scratch his ear for 30 seconds and then fell back asleep. [00:50:55] Speaker A: Story of my life. I have the. A cover of seven Twitch case files. 20, 24, number 23. [00:51:03] Speaker B: That's a lot of numbers. Oh, nice. Well, I. Johnny, I have the. The B cover, which just happens because there is another. [00:51:14] Speaker A: That's so shitty. They could have called it anything else. They decided to call it Sam Torch Case Files, which there is another comic book series that already existed with that name. [00:51:22] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. What are you gonna do? [00:51:25] Speaker A: Always have the 2024 next to it. Just like Ghostbusters, which they've rebranded. 2016. Ghostbusters. They've rebranded as Answer the Ghostbusters. Colon, Answer the Call. [00:51:39] Speaker B: That's not a bad title. Not. But not a bad title at all. It's. It's better than Ghostbusters 2016. [00:51:46] Speaker A: What about Halloween 2019? [00:51:50] Speaker B: Halloween 2019. [00:51:52] Speaker A: What was it? I think it was 2019. It was 2018. [00:51:55] Speaker B: 2018. It was 2018. 28. 2019. Fuck. Well, because then you also have just. They just, like, retroactively called it Rob Zombies Halloween. [00:52:06] Speaker A: No, I'm talking about. [00:52:08] Speaker B: You're talking about. [00:52:08] Speaker A: You're talking about the David Gordon Green's House. [00:52:11] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:52:12] Speaker A: I thought the third one, that was pretty good. Everyone hated it. [00:52:15] Speaker B: I think. I actually think it was 2018. [00:52:17] Speaker A: I think it was. [00:52:19] Speaker B: But Halloween Ends. Halloween ends. Kicked ass. [00:52:21] Speaker A: I was good. [00:52:22] Speaker B: The. Yeah, the Kid. [00:52:24] Speaker A: That was awesome with the kid. I love that trilogy. [00:52:26] Speaker B: It was. It was a good one. It was a good one. [00:52:28] Speaker A: Halloween Kills. Great title. [00:52:31] Speaker B: Yeah, he did. He did. Oh, boy. But Halloween Ends. Is that the one that, like, he goes to the hospital and there's just, like, fucking so many goddamn people. Because it was after Covid and it was like, why are there so many people there? [00:52:44] Speaker A: That might be the second one. No, it's the second one because everyone goes to the hospital that night. Yeah. [00:52:49] Speaker B: Okay. God, that was. It was just like, why are there so many people? Why are there so many people? [00:52:55] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:52:58] Speaker B: Nice. I didn't. I didn't mind the Rob Zombie one. The first one. I think the. The second one. The second. The second one fizzled, but the first one was. Was decent. [00:53:08] Speaker A: Well, I like the Cody or. I think his name was Cody. Or Corey. The plot line about the guy who took over for Michael Myers. I thought it was good. [00:53:15] Speaker B: Yeah. Jamie Lee Curtis. Still kicking ass. [00:53:20] Speaker A: Kicking ass and taking names. Yeah. Just like our two favorite directors. Or not directors. [00:53:26] Speaker B: Detectors. But Johnny, we were still talking about these covers. [00:53:29] Speaker A: I know. That's what I'm trying to get back to. God damn it. [00:53:34] Speaker B: We got this. We got this spooky David Fincher character in the background. He looks like. He looks a little bit like the Scarecrow. And he's got the seven pointed star carved into his chest. He's got knives in his hands. And then we got Sam Twitch down at the bottom. This this is perfect movie. This is a perfect one sheet right here, Johnny. I would go see this movie. I would go see this movie. I don't care what the. [00:53:58] Speaker A: I love Twitch's hair in this. It's so spiky and staticky. [00:54:02] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. It's real. Vash the Stampede. [00:54:04] Speaker A: Yeah, it's good. I love it. Sam's looking sexy as ever. [00:54:08] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, it's so good. It's so good. God, I love this book. [00:54:12] Speaker A: It's great. [00:54:14] Speaker B: Let's pop open that cover and give credit where credit is due, Johnny. And we got plot script by Thomas Healy with additional script by Todd McFarlane. [00:54:21] Speaker A: Oh, he had to get in, you know, Thomas, get out of here. [00:54:24] Speaker B: He's like. He's just. He's just like salt bae. He's just like walking by, going, hoping some of his words make it in the book. [00:54:34] Speaker A: Just look for the most pedantic side text that explains what's going on. And that'll be it. Let's see if we can spot it. Yeah. [00:54:41] Speaker B: Art by Von Randall. It's nice and gritty. Color by FCO Placentia. And Sheila Saldana is doing the color flats lettering by the Tom father himself, Tom Wozykowski. We done covered the COVID Johnny. Creative director is Todd McFarlane and the editor in chief is Thomas Healy. And previously in Sam and Twitch, after a long day, Sam returns home and is met by a visitor who is long thought dead. Yeah. From the last time that we coverage. You know, they left the crime scene of the. The detective that they went to go to go talk to about the. The case they're currently working on because he had some information to share and Sam stole a. Stole a file. They got like, chastised by the. What is he. What was his. Was he a sergeant or was he a captain? [00:55:42] Speaker A: I can't remember. [00:55:44] Speaker B: They were chastised by the. The. The officer in charge of the crime scene for even being there. And then, you know, Sam goes home and he's reaching into his fridge for some cold pizza and a beer and it gets attacked by this. And great, great, like four page fight between Sam and this. This beastly man. [00:56:09] Speaker A: So Twitch is driving home. He's. He's dreaming about having a scotch. [00:56:12] Speaker B: Yeah, he's. [00:56:14] Speaker A: We know, we know. Him and Helen are fucking party animals. [00:56:17] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:56:17] Speaker A: No, remember that one issue where they had like, they had a six pack, like. [00:56:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:56:21] Speaker A: A six pack of tall boys and a thing of liquor. They're all empty. [00:56:25] Speaker B: Yeah. And that was just. That was just them sitting down to watch some television. After they put their kids. [00:56:30] Speaker A: They're just fucking going for it. [00:56:32] Speaker B: We were luscious. Oh, man. I think it was. I think it was. I think it was like a six pack. Like a full six pack. And Twitch had a beer in his hand, so he had seven. [00:56:43] Speaker A: And there was liquor. [00:56:44] Speaker B: And there was liquor. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so while. While Twitch is driving home, he gets a call from this dude. The dude at Nash Ash. Nash Antiques, you remember, from the first issue of this arc, first or second, where they. They took some of the. The strange occult business that they found. And it's Alex Smith from Nash Antiques, Johnny. And he. He tells. He tells Detective Twitch Williams that, sorry, I can't help you, but it just looks. It looks like you just gave me some nonsense. It looks like they. They made it up. So, sorry, this is a dead end for you, which is like, ah, dang. Well, thanks. And then they hang up. And then Nash is just. Alex is just there like, oh, yeah. That wasn't nothing. Oh, yeah. So pretty sure. Pretty sure Alex just lied to Detective Twitch Williams about the thing being nonsense because he's now one step closer to his goal, Johnny. But that's another story. Ooh, another story, you say? And then. Then we see. We see, you know, Twitch. Twitch calls Helen and is like, papa's coming home, baby. That is like, hold on. Sam's calling me. [00:58:07] Speaker A: Hold on a second. [00:58:08] Speaker B: I think. I think there should have been a little. [00:58:10] Speaker A: A little. [00:58:10] Speaker B: A little thing of Helen being like, don't you. Don't you do it. But it's. But it's Sam. And Sam is just like, twitch, you gotta come here right now. So he's in my place. I need you, God damn it. [00:58:23] Speaker A: So you think. We'll see. Is that Thomas Healy adding something to the Spawn Cannon with Alex Smith? Like, that's another story. [00:58:30] Speaker B: Oh, that feels. That totally feels like, like, the beginning of a new series maybe. Or maybe a. A story. [00:58:39] Speaker A: Or is it something for someone smart like Erica Schultz, who, like, picks up on the lore and, like, keeps. Obviously she keeps up with it. Like, she has, like, the prod, you know, eviscerators, babies, crab things and. Yeah, it was just. [00:58:55] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, I think. I think it. It could be just sort of finished or. [00:59:01] Speaker A: But it could not. And I love that. I love leaving those doors open. [00:59:04] Speaker B: Yeah, it's excellent. So. So Twitch. Twitch just like. Like, he doesn't even bother parking correctly. He just, like, pops his car up on the curb and just, like, runs inside Sam's apartment building. [00:59:18] Speaker A: It's like, Sam, who officially Lives like, he was like, who can you get to design your apartment? Aesthetic. He's like, let me contact my old buddy Davey. You might know him as David Fincher, because literally, it looks like his apartment looks like some horror show out of stuff 7. Yeah, it really, like, getting up. I'm like, dude, he's a New York City cop for, like, 20 years. He can't get, like, a penthouse or something? I think he chooses to live that way. I guess it says a lot about him. [00:59:44] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:59:44] Speaker A: He got a huge pension. [00:59:47] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:59:47] Speaker A: But he won't ever retire because he just loves the chase. [00:59:50] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. No, he's gonna. He's gonna die at his desk. Yeah, he'll be lucky to die at his desk. He's probably gonna die in the field. Who are we kidding? [00:59:58] Speaker A: Or of a coronary disease. Donuts and pizza and beer and sandwich. What is it? Yeah, cigarettes. Say that too. [01:00:10] Speaker B: That'll do it, Johnny. But yeah. So. So. So Sam Twitch gets there. He's banging on the door. And Sam's like, ah, it's okay. It's. I'm okay. Come on, Come on. I got him. I got him in here. I got him tied up. And Twitch is like, what? What. What the. Is happening, Sam? Is he dead? I do like, luckily, I ain't no punk. I feel like maybe the luckily I ain't no punk was the. The Todd father. [01:00:36] Speaker A: Yeah, that's true. That's because Todd father is. [01:00:41] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:00:42] Speaker A: With your Netflix macho streaming shows, [01:00:48] Speaker B: which is like, tell me he's not dead. And Sam's like, of course he's not. At least I don't think he is. [01:00:53] Speaker A: I don't think so. [01:00:58] Speaker B: And then, you know, at least they break it down. [01:01:01] Speaker A: It's like, why would someone come in here dressed as this guy. [01:01:04] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:04] Speaker A: And try to kill me? [01:01:06] Speaker B: Yeah, we know. We know he's. We know this guy is dead. What the Is going on? It was like, why did you take off his mask? And Sam was just like, couldn't. My hands were shaking too much. But then he makes. He just like. He just groans. Then Sam's like, see, he ain't dead at all. [01:01:23] Speaker A: He's just. He's just a kid. He just reeks. Hired gun man. [01:01:27] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. He's just like. He's just like this, this, this. And even Sam's just like, who the is this? They're just, like, staring at him like this. What the is this? [01:01:39] Speaker A: Who hired you tough guys? Like, I can't. Can't do it. [01:01:42] Speaker B: Can't do it. [01:01:43] Speaker A: Nope. Not going to Die, Twitch. [01:01:44] Speaker B: And Twitch is like. Twitch is like. Sam was like, take off his gloves when we shot him last time. We shot him through the hands. And, you know, like, he's. He's not stigmatted in the hands in any way, Johnny. [01:01:56] Speaker A: Nope. [01:01:57] Speaker B: So, yep, yep, yep. And so, you know, they take him [01:02:03] Speaker A: in, take him downtown. [01:02:05] Speaker B: Yeah, they got on the. They're making their way downtown walking fest. [01:02:11] Speaker A: And then we put them in interrogation room, and we get the opening quote. [01:02:16] Speaker B: We sure do. And then Sam and Twitch leave this guy in the interrogation room. And then when he's all by himself, he's just like, yeah, then. And then out. Out in the corridor, Sam and Twitch are trying to figure out, you know, how they're gonna play it. [01:02:36] Speaker A: He's like, in Twitch, like, you offer this. He beat the. Out of you. He's like, man, he hits like a galaxy. [01:02:43] Speaker B: Like, if you say so. I guess we should wait for the prince to come back. And Sam's like, this guy. Now we. We got him. We got him. We could just. We just gotta bluff our way through it. It'll be fine. We'll do what we do till he cracks. [01:02:57] Speaker A: Yo, we know you're not. Someone told you to put you after this. Who paid you? And then they're just getting to the meat of the investigation. There's a knock, knock, knock on the door. [01:03:05] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Like he. He. He says, the. The suspect just says, I. And then they're interrupted. It's interrupted by Jimmy, and he's like, I need to. [01:03:19] Speaker A: It doesn't show on mine, really. [01:03:21] Speaker B: It's. It's. [01:03:23] Speaker A: Show it to me on this. [01:03:24] Speaker B: On this panel here. He's. It's whoop. And it says, I. Oh, you're right. [01:03:30] Speaker A: Oh, I thought it was a crack in the concrete. [01:03:32] Speaker B: Oh, no, no, no, no, you're right. [01:03:34] Speaker A: Oh, my God. [01:03:35] Speaker B: Yeah. So he's starting to speak. He gets silenced by Jimmy. And Jimmy's there saying, hey, they got a. They got some. They. They got a new development they got to show you up at the. That the old house, the old crime scene that we just found you guys at. At o'. Shea's. And then they're like, well, we got a. We got a guy here on ice. What are we supposed to do with him? And Jenny says, oh, I'll hold him. I'll put him in hold until you get back. [01:04:03] Speaker A: Like, don't let anyone touch Sam's. [01:04:04] Speaker B: Sam's like, he's ours. Nobody else gets to talk to him. And so then they drive back to Queens to o' Shea's house and the, and they're talking about how like, what the fuck? What the fuck is this? What do you think? And you know, they're, they're suspecting something is up. They think this is wasting their time, Johnny. So they show up and then they get shown to Osha's closet up in his bedroom. And somebody had come through and rifled and they're just like, ah, floor safe, floor safe. So the floor safe was underneath the floorboards and it's been ripped out and it's been opened, the contents removed. So somebody knew that that was there and somebody knew that stuff that was in it is valuable in whatever form that value is. And Sam's just like, boy, I really don't like this twitch. Why are we here? Twitch is just like, you feeling it too, huh? So they're like, well, I guess they've wasted enough of our time. Let's get back to our guy before he, you know, disappears. And the, the light, the light just breaks upon yonder. [01:05:25] Speaker A: Oh my God. They worked all night. [01:05:27] Speaker B: They worked all night. They worked all night. But no drink of rum and coffee and a couple donuts. [01:05:37] Speaker A: Oh my God, kill me. [01:05:43] Speaker B: So, so they, they show back up at the precinct and Sam's like, hey, we need our John Doe. Come on, trot him out here. Come on, come on. And then they're like, oh, oh, oh, sorry. Sorry about that. [01:05:54] Speaker A: He was a Rikers. [01:05:56] Speaker B: The cap. The captain sent him to Rikers while you were gone. And they're like, God damn it. So they bust into the captain's order and they're like, captain, huh? Captain's office is empty and there's nobody at the desk but his badge, his badge is there. And so they're like, well, so Sam tries to call him and just go straight to voicemail. [01:06:20] Speaker A: Please leave him a voicemail. [01:06:22] Speaker B: Yeah, God damn voicemail. And so they're just sitting there, just sitting there, you know, Biden their time in their office. And then one of an officer, a young officer comes in and it's just like, sirs, nice to meet you, sirs. [01:06:38] Speaker A: He's like, can you imagine how much Sam resisted getting a cell phone, iPhone 8 in this probably in the current time. [01:06:47] Speaker B: I'm surprised he doesn't just still have the old fashioned flip phone he's just got. He's just. [01:06:51] Speaker A: They probably made him like, you gotta get a smartphone. [01:06:53] Speaker B: He's like, I don't wanna. [01:06:55] Speaker A: But they figured out I could order him pizza and probably beer in New York. You can probably get that delivered to you. [01:07:00] Speaker B: Yes, Doordash. Yeah. [01:07:01] Speaker A: Or donuts, of course. Like, yeah, Artesian donuts. [01:07:07] Speaker B: I don't think. I don't think Sam would go for Artisian donuts. I think he would be upset at the. [01:07:13] Speaker A: No, you're right. Reduced. They also suck. Like, fancy donuts with a bunch of on them suck. [01:07:18] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [01:07:19] Speaker A: There's a place here in Tulsa does like, half a Mars bar on top of their donuts. And. And I'm like, nah, that. No, I want a simple, like, daylight donuts. Like fry glaze. Like, give me that. [01:07:29] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. My favorite donut of all time is just an old Fashioned with cinnamon sugar on it. [01:07:36] Speaker A: Classic lays those. [01:07:38] Speaker B: Those sour cream donuts or sour. Yeah, those are good. [01:07:41] Speaker A: Those are good. Those are good. [01:07:42] Speaker B: Yeah, those are real good. But so this young officer comes in and, you know, he doesn't stop saluting him, and he's just like, yo, your John Doe was stabbed at Rikers. Oops. And then Sammichwitch is just like, oh, this is. This isn't a. Oh, this isn't good. This isn't good. This isn't a coincidence. And then. And then the young officer's like, oh, also, apparently your John Doe was an informant for the captain. [01:08:10] Speaker A: And then they were getting for anime last panel, which I love. [01:08:13] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. They're just, like, staring at each other [01:08:16] Speaker A: and Twist is looking manic with his hair, and Sam's looking like an anime character. Looks like Papa Racer [01:08:27] Speaker B: looks a little bit like. They both kind of look like different aspects of what's his face from Cowboy Bebop. Yeah. The main guy. [01:08:39] Speaker A: Spike. [01:08:40] Speaker B: Spike. Thank you. [01:08:43] Speaker A: You're welcome. We get the blood spattered, the blood splattered spawn, the Orb 10 issue. [01:08:52] Speaker B: To be continued. [01:08:53] Speaker A: To be continued. [01:08:56] Speaker B: Then we get Avatar Fire and Ash toyed. Yep. Get the Call of Duty Spawn crossover. Toyette. [01:09:02] Speaker A: Yes, sir. [01:09:04] Speaker B: We get new generations, new story, new you. Ooh, this one's got she Spawn in it. Johnny. [01:09:08] Speaker A: There it is. [01:09:09] Speaker B: There it is. She spawned Rat City Gunslinger, Deadly Tales of the Gunslinger, and spawned the Dark Ages. Got the image Classic set. Oh, and that is the back of the issue. [01:09:24] Speaker A: That is the back of the issue. What are you doing? [01:09:27] Speaker B: There's no more. [01:09:28] Speaker A: There's no more. [01:09:29] Speaker B: I thought there was another page. [01:09:30] Speaker A: There's no more. David. That's it. That's it. [01:09:34] Speaker B: Sad. [01:09:35] Speaker A: Sad. [01:09:36] Speaker B: That's the same at twitch number 23. Johnny. That's a Johnny. I think. I think, much like all of these dogs I got laying around here, they've [01:09:49] Speaker A: been pretty good today. [01:09:49] Speaker B: These. [01:09:50] Speaker A: These issues. [01:09:51] Speaker B: These issues are laying around here and we should probably tell them that they're pretty good and give them little scratches on the behind their ears. [01:09:58] Speaker A: It's time to rate the puppies. [01:09:59] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:10:02] Speaker A: First up, we had Rat City 23. [01:10:05] Speaker B: Hell yeah. [01:10:06] Speaker A: I give it a. You know what? It was awesome. It was. It was. It was fast paced. [01:10:11] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:10:12] Speaker A: But it's not like a topic. Farland fight in the forest. There's a bunch of pointless shit. Like, everything felt high stakes. It was clear action. [01:10:18] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [01:10:18] Speaker A: There are still great lore reveals and like. Like Eric, her Schultz respects the lore and, like, respects you as someone who's buying these new spawn, which I feel like sometimes mainly Todd McFarlane doesn't. Yeah. The other writers are good about it. They're like, okay, let's like, shepherd this along, you know? But she uses the lore well. It's fun. It's a great climax to this arc. This storyline we've had so far. It's building up to the climax and I just. It was. I loved it. It was great. [01:10:54] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:10:55] Speaker A: It's an action scene, but it's amazing. It's a sequence, it's a. It's a rise. And because we've kind of had some. Like, this is happening, you know, like. And then like, the fights have been building, but these are the fights and they were. It's so much better than when, like, gunslinger fights Lobo at a rest stop or whatever. [01:11:12] Speaker B: And then it like, like everything resets afterwards. And as he has to fight again, [01:11:17] Speaker A: he's like, I was also your brother and I killed your brother. [01:11:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:11:20] Speaker A: He's like, my name is Carl. My name is Carl. Remember me? They made me into a robot. But you didn't expect that. [01:11:28] Speaker B: And you're never going to remember me after this fight and you didn't remember me before this. [01:11:33] Speaker A: I feel like when Thomas Healy got the Carl scripts, he was just like, he put his head in his hands. Maybe. [01:11:40] Speaker B: Maybe there's a. There's a sign over Todd's office's door that says, no more Carl. [01:11:44] Speaker A: No more Carl. We're not talking about Carl. We're talking about Rat City 23. [01:11:47] Speaker B: Yeah. This is the opposite. [01:11:49] Speaker A: It's so cool. We have the eviscerator. We've got the progeny. All these characters we, like, know and have relationships with, and we're still learning about them. I just love it. [01:11:57] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:11:58] Speaker A: I'm gonna give it 4.5 little crab babies out of five. [01:12:05] Speaker B: Oh. 4.5 little crab babies. I. I agree. It's great. It's good seeing our boy Malpia we got the. The gross, nasty clown boy here. We got like just a whole bunch of. A whole bunch of. Just a whole. An assemblage of people in hell is always fun. I like these. I like these, like ectoplasmicy ghosty people. Those are real fun. [01:12:26] Speaker A: You like that belly? You like the belly? [01:12:28] Speaker B: Yeah, you gotta. You gotta rub it for good luck. [01:12:31] Speaker A: Oh my God. [01:12:32] Speaker B: It's like a little. He's like a little. He's like a little Buddha. It's. It's great. Yeah. Like, the fights, I love. I love the. Like the fights have good symmetry to them. There's like a nice little echo between them. [01:12:45] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:12:46] Speaker B: And like, we're still. We're still learning stuff. I like. I like that Jessica Schultz takes every. [01:12:52] Speaker A: Erica Schultz, not Jessica Schultz. [01:12:54] Speaker B: I like how Erica Schultz takes every opportunity to be like, hey, just in case you didn't realize that Becker was a piece of shit. Here's. Here's another little bit. And I just love how much worse like, like, you're like, I get it. This guy's a piece of. He can't get any worse. And then she reveals a little bit and just like that is a piece of. [01:13:14] Speaker A: Called Peter a cheeky boy in German. [01:13:18] Speaker B: A cheeky boy. A little. A little lad. He called him a little lad. [01:13:25] Speaker A: It's. [01:13:25] Speaker B: It's awesome. And it's like this Z. Carlos art is just so. Oh, it's amazing. [01:13:32] Speaker A: He handles well. He handles the storytelling, the action sequences and like the reveal of like Peter's not there because in a. In a battle in his hand or different artist hand. You can read that as like they ate him. [01:13:43] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:13:44] Speaker A: You know what I mean? But like just one panel, it tells you a whole sentence. [01:13:47] Speaker B: Yeah, it like. I like how it. It just very. It's very good at melding like the over the top cartoonish nature of the comic book with like real weights. It's. It's awesome. I'm gonna give. I'm gonna give this. I'm gonna give this five. Five happy little, little foxes getting petted by male bolgia. Cuz. Look at. [01:14:11] Speaker A: Look at. [01:14:13] Speaker B: He's so happy. The. The progeny are so fucking cute that I just. I just can't. Johnny, That's. It's got to get the full amount for me. This. [01:14:23] Speaker A: I fucked up. No, I kept this at the elephant club. It was just my honest opinion. [01:14:28] Speaker B: Yeah, I just. I just fucking love that little fox. [01:14:32] Speaker A: I know. You do not. Next up, we had Sam Twitch case files 2024, number 23. Why is that funny? [01:14:44] Speaker B: David. [01:14:44] Speaker A: That's the title. [01:14:46] Speaker B: No, no, I know. [01:14:47] Speaker A: It's just. [01:14:47] Speaker B: It's you. You're so much better at it than I would be. Like, I would still be it up. And you just, like, it's. It's natural. It's just like, that's part of. It's a natural thing to see. Same in twitch case files. 2024, number 23. [01:15:00] Speaker A: I thought, this is great. Love the art, love the story. [01:15:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:15:05] Speaker A: It's fun. It's Detectives in New York. It's not. I thought. I think it's been a good flow. This is the third story arc. The first one was like in the country, which was fun. Took them out of their element. Seemed maybe Supernatural, but it wasn't. And the second one was supernatural related, and that was like an epic. It was great. And this one's like a more like kind of David, like we say, David Fincher detective story. [01:15:29] Speaker B: This is. This is a. Like a gritty, street level story, we would call it. [01:15:33] Speaker A: I love the variety. [01:15:35] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:15:35] Speaker A: And I love that he mentions in this issue that he's like. I was thinking all this spawn shit, like Supernatural, because we always do a spawn and shit, like from the grave. It's just a guy in the mask. [01:15:47] Speaker B: Yeah. He's like, this is just. This is just some fuckery by an actual human. [01:15:51] Speaker A: Yeah. I love that. I love that. I love it. I thought it was amazing. I think. I mean, so far, I don't know, it's between two and three, but like, this might. I don't know. We'll see how it ends. Yeah, I love this. I love the same Twitch story arc. I'm gonna also give this in a you to David, a 4.5. [01:16:15] Speaker B: Salutes. [01:16:16] Speaker A: Salutes. I'm gonna give this as a you did, David, because he's probably. Give it a five and I'm it up again. I'm give it 4.5 salutes. [01:16:27] Speaker B: Nice. [01:16:29] Speaker A: To David, for. [01:16:30] Speaker B: For those just listening, Johnny gave me the one finger salute. He gave me five of them. Four of them. Four and a half. [01:16:36] Speaker A: I did not. I did not flip you off. I saluted you. Famous emoji. Like one of my top 10 emoji. [01:16:45] Speaker B: For me, it is. It is a good emoji, though. [01:16:47] Speaker A: Or just sending the Roger Roger gift. Gift is. [01:16:49] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, right. That's. That's classic. I do that. I drew that in a professional capacity. [01:16:54] Speaker A: I do that. When I acknowledge something [01:16:57] Speaker B: I've. I've started. I've started saluting people a lot of times because it started with every time I saw A dead animal, like a pigeon smashed by a car or like, you know, a poisoned rat or whatever. I would salute them, thank them for their service, and then just started saluting everybody. So I don't know. [01:17:14] Speaker A: I like a salute. [01:17:16] Speaker B: It's. It's. It's fun. I like to salute people when they let me run in front. [01:17:20] Speaker A: Oh, like your Han Solo, Indiana Jones? I do that, too. Like, see you around, kid. [01:17:24] Speaker B: Yeah, it's good. It's good. This is. This is a fun story. I love. I love how just, like, creepy and dark and, you know, like, the mystery is still bubbling. Like, we're. We got. We got some of the pieces, but we're not sure what's happening. [01:17:39] Speaker A: It goes all the way to the top, David. All the way. [01:17:42] Speaker B: All the way to the top. I'm gonna give this. I'm gonna give this four and a half. Four and a half. Say Alex Smiths, because Alex. Alex Smith is up to something, and I'm interested in what that dude's cooking up. [01:18:00] Speaker A: He's read Lovecraft. [01:18:02] Speaker B: I do. I do also, like on this page that these panels of Twitch make them look awfully Colonel Sandersy. [01:18:10] Speaker A: A little bit now. [01:18:11] Speaker B: Like. Like. Like Leonardo DiCaprio as Colonel Sanders. [01:18:15] Speaker A: What? A little bit. A little bit. [01:18:20] Speaker B: Oh, good. Good as hell. I love it. [01:18:24] Speaker A: Well, that's those puppies rated, David. [01:18:26] Speaker B: That's those puppies rated Johnny. You know what else I love, Johnny? [01:18:30] Speaker A: Spawn immunity. [01:18:31] Speaker B: The Spawn immunity. It's so good. And this week, we would like to shout out a member of the Spawn community, that person being Marco Polo 0452. That is M A R K O P O L O 0452. They're a comic collector and a Spawn fanatic, Johnny. Would you believe it? They got a lot of Spawn stuff. They got the. They got the signed Scotty Young 50s from Gunslinger Scorched and Kingspawn 50s. They're pretty cool. Pretty cool. They got a Spawn Hunter challenge coin. [01:19:13] Speaker A: We love that. [01:19:14] Speaker B: Yeah, they sure do. They got a. They got one of Those signed Todd McFarlane 350 issues. [01:19:24] Speaker A: I got the Spawn Con coin. I love that thing. [01:19:28] Speaker B: It's good as hell. Yeah, check them out. Show them some love. Say hey. Oh, Johnny. And you'll love this. Their icon is a dog spawn. [01:19:40] Speaker A: Like Doge Spawn. [01:19:42] Speaker B: Like. Like Jet Lucanus's dog spawn. [01:19:45] Speaker A: Dog spawn. Dog spawn. Dog spawn. [01:19:51] Speaker B: While you're on Instagram checking out Marco Polo 0452, you should check out us regarding Spawn Pod. We're there occasionally trying to. Trying to keep up with it as [01:20:02] Speaker A: Much as if you're keeping up with the narrative of the show. I used to run the social media and I've sworn off all social media, so. And now it's left David and quite a lurch. [01:20:10] Speaker B: And now the person who's bad at it is the person who shows up every once in a while, posts four things in two days, and then goes away for two months. [01:20:19] Speaker A: We'll see what happens. While you're on the Internet, hit us up at regarding SpawnPod, gmail.com. anything, any question, anything you want to know. And while you're googling that Google Lonnie Bones. [01:20:35] Speaker B: Yes, he does. [01:20:37] Speaker A: He does our music. [01:20:38] Speaker B: It is excellent. And Johnny, speaking of, regarding spawn. Podmail.com. [01:20:44] Speaker A: yes. [01:20:45] Speaker B: You promised us that you would answer the question you asked me last week. What is, what is your least favorite Spawn issue of all time? I guess of the ones you've read [01:20:59] Speaker A: the Overkill. [01:21:02] Speaker B: The seven. [01:21:03] Speaker A: Yeah, seven. Spawn seven. [01:21:06] Speaker B: That's gonna be my answer because it's poopy diaper. [01:21:08] Speaker A: Poopy doopy doopy. [01:21:09] Speaker B: God awful. [01:21:10] Speaker A: It's awful. And then you get followed by the best issue of all time, issue eight. [01:21:15] Speaker B: It's so roller coaster. The green nasty kinds, Johnny. [01:21:23] Speaker A: Like the poo poo that you get in your butthole. You know I'm talking about poop. It's. Oh God, that. I mean, it's my least favorite. [01:21:34] Speaker B: It's awful. It's awful. [01:21:36] Speaker A: That, that spawn that, that 50 run of the first spin offs wasn't great. [01:21:41] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. No, it was not. So yeah, those. That's our least favorite issues of Spot of all time. [01:21:49] Speaker A: Number seven. [01:21:50] Speaker B: Asked and answered. [01:21:51] Speaker A: Get it out of the way early. It's only number seven out of 369 or whatever. [01:21:56] Speaker B: Yeah, don't. Don't read it for yourself. Only read it if you're gonna have another friend read it and then you can talk about it. I would say like if you're, if [01:22:03] Speaker A: you're, if you read it by yourself, you're a poopy diarrhea. [01:22:06] Speaker B: Like if you're, if, if you're starting your Spawn journey and you're just trying to read some stuff, just skip issue seven. Just, just. [01:22:13] Speaker A: No, read it. [01:22:13] Speaker B: Read it. [01:22:14] Speaker A: No, it's important [01:22:17] Speaker B: because you got to know about the, the one dudes and then the other dudes that are literally just rip offs of Frank Miller. Frank Miller gangs from every other comic book that he had done for the previous six years. They're literally just his. Like the gangs that he wrote for RoboCop 3. Yeah, yeah, very Exciting. Well, Johnny, hopefully you don't have very many issues of Spawn that you hate, and hopefully I don't. [01:22:53] Speaker A: The. [01:22:54] Speaker B: The two that we're gonna read for next week, I won't. You won't hate at all. I. I think you're gonna. I think you're gonna like them a little bit. [01:23:02] Speaker A: What are they? [01:23:03] Speaker B: Because next week, we are gonna read Deadly Tales of the gunslinger number 14 and the curse of Shirley Johnson number five. [01:23:11] Speaker A: Sounds Gouda to Mooda. [01:23:15] Speaker B: Apparently it's actually in the Dutch is pronounced Howdah instead of Gouda. [01:23:22] Speaker A: How to do. [01:23:24] Speaker B: How. That's a. That's a fine how to do. [01:23:26] Speaker A: That's a fine how to do. [01:23:29] Speaker B: How did it do? Yeah. So find yourself copies of Deadly Tales of The Gunslinger Number 14 and Curse of Shirley Johnson Number 5. Read them and come listen to us talk about them. [01:23:40] Speaker A: And subscribe. [01:23:42] Speaker B: Yes. [01:23:43] Speaker A: Rate, review, subscribe. Put Spawn into free libraries. If you have extra copies of Spawn you don't want to read anymore, put it in a free library. [01:23:51] Speaker B: Yeah, do it. Do it. Tell your friends, families, co workers, cousins, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, maybe. Maybe get your grandparents some Spawn. I don't know. Maybe this. This got to be an issue that they would be good with. [01:24:08] Speaker A: Show it to JD Vance and tell him it's a documentary. [01:24:11] Speaker B: You gotta buy. Buy as many issues. Copies of issue number eight as possible and go to all your snooty, highfalutin friends and be like, you gotta read this. It's a masterpiece. And if they tell you that they don't like it, that, you know they're full of. [01:24:24] Speaker A: And then give them issue 7 and say, read this as punishment. Not liking it, [01:24:30] Speaker B: man. Issue eight's a banger. [01:24:32] Speaker A: That's amazing. [01:24:33] Speaker B: It's so good. [01:24:34] Speaker A: It's just one of the best comic artists of. [01:24:37] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:24:38] Speaker A: In existence. [01:24:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:24:39] Speaker A: That's all it is. [01:24:40] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. He's. He's. It's hard to. It's hard to argue with the genius of Alan Moore. [01:24:48] Speaker A: It's true. [01:24:50] Speaker B: It's just really good. [01:24:51] Speaker A: So I won't do it. I'm going to be silent in honor of his genius. [01:24:55] Speaker B: Then I will continue to talk ad nauseam until I run out of things to say and end up with nothing else to say except for Johnny. May the Scorch be with you. Hell, yeah. [01:25:14] Speaker A: Let's keep playing. Silence. The break is just silence. Sam. Sa.
