[00:00:00] Speaker A: Everything happened and everything has changed forever. [00:00:32] Speaker B: Foreign. [00:00:37] Speaker A: And welcome to the Malibu. This is regarding Spawn, the world's best Spawn podcast. I am your co host, John Fisher. [00:00:45] Speaker C: And I am your co host, David Williams and Johnny Robot. [00:00:49] Speaker A: Is that a Star wars robot I just heard? [00:00:51] Speaker C: No, it was my. It was my phone. I forgot to. [00:00:54] Speaker A: I forgot to turn my BB8 noise. [00:00:56] Speaker C: What is that? No, it's, it's. No, it's from an improvised Star wars parody podcast and it's a. No, it's. It's called Mission to Zix and it's one of. One of the. The main arcs is they have to find this being at the center of the universe and it's just this weirdly warm being called Beano. And Beano is like this all knowing, all knowing being and just always goes, beano. No. So it's, it's. It just be. No, no. Be. [00:01:28] Speaker B: No, no. [00:01:28] Speaker A: Interesting. I've never heard of that. [00:01:31] Speaker C: There's too many podcasts. One could say, Johnny, this is one of them. [00:01:36] Speaker A: One of the great traditional podcasts, I think, is guests. [00:01:40] Speaker C: Oh, yes. [00:01:41] Speaker A: It's always exciting because it shakes you up. Makes you a little better at it. [00:01:45] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:01:47] Speaker A: And you make friends along the way. [00:01:49] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:01:49] Speaker A: What is this, a four? I think he's from. This is the fourth. Fourth or fifth timer club. Is this the fifth time we've had this gentleman on the podcast? Fourth or two gunslingers. No, gunslinger devil tales number one and then these 50. [00:02:05] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:02:06] Speaker A: So these are fourth. [00:02:08] Speaker C: Nice, nice. [00:02:09] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:02:10] Speaker C: Hell yeah. [00:02:11] Speaker A: This is the Phantom Menace of podcasts. If you go by release order at the fourth. Fourth actually released. Star Wars Movie. [00:02:20] Speaker C: Did you say fourth? Naturally. [00:02:21] Speaker A: Released theatrically released. [00:02:30] Speaker C: Ain't no artificial. Artificial conception here. But yes, yes, the Fourth Timers Club. It is Tiny Mark Spani. [00:02:39] Speaker B: Yes, it is good to be back. I love coming on your show, I think. [00:02:43] Speaker A: Oh, so much fun. [00:02:44] Speaker C: We love. We love having you. [00:02:46] Speaker B: I. I think it's a toss up between you and World at Work Comics. I think I might have done his show like maybe once more. Maybe so. [00:02:54] Speaker A: All right, well, I'm declaring war against World of War. We're gonna beat him. [00:02:57] Speaker B: Yeah, right, There you go. [00:02:58] Speaker A: Because right before we recording, we were already penning him in and it's a few months from now. We're not gonna say what. We already penned him in for a very special episode this year. Late this year. [00:03:08] Speaker B: It's gonna be a surprise. [00:03:09] Speaker A: Of course we'll have you back before then. [00:03:12] Speaker B: Oh, yes. Awesome. I love coming out. [00:03:13] Speaker A: But this is the promised third in the trilogy of 50s. Because the original idea, we were like, we can cover all three in one episode, right? Yeah. Hour and 30 minutes. We hadn't been talking about the first one. I text David in the chat and I was like, hey, we should probably just cover. [00:03:32] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, that was fun. [00:03:33] Speaker A: That was really fun. [00:03:35] Speaker B: It was a nice. It was a nice pipe dream. But, yeah, definitely, we could not do these all in one night. There's just so much to talk to talk about. We all have. [00:03:41] Speaker A: So we always take so many because we all appreciate the minutia. We're steeped in the Swans universe and there's so much interesting things that remind you of a toy or remind you of a spawn memory or remind you of some other piece of pop culture. It's always fun to go down those rabbit holes. [00:03:56] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, that's. That's one of my favorite parts of the show is you guys just, like, completely, like, go off the rails and then eventually get it directed back, you know, in the right path. But I love all the side stories. [00:04:05] Speaker A: We were also very distracted by your background the first time, so we were [00:04:08] Speaker B: like, what are these? [00:04:11] Speaker C: Still distracted by it, by the way. [00:04:13] Speaker B: I. I have hit. I have hit a milestone in my collection, though, and it's kind of bittersweet because as of two weeks ago, I have completed my figure journey. Oh. I have one of everything that's been released in the U.S. oh, dang. Yeah. So there's a lot in here. I have all series up through 1 through 34. I have the reborn series. I have, you know, all the 12 inch figures, all the deluxe figures. [00:04:44] Speaker C: Do you have the. The weird ones? Like, I was at a garage sale and there was a guy who had, like, animal spawn action figures, and there's like a crocodile and an ostrich. Do you have those? [00:04:55] Speaker B: That would be. I think you're talking about series 33, and that's the crocodile. [00:05:00] Speaker A: You buy them, David? [00:05:02] Speaker C: No, I did buy them. They're just this. This right here. [00:05:05] Speaker B: Are you. [00:05:07] Speaker C: Yeah, they're in a box. They're just on the floor here. Yeah, it's the crocodile. The crocodile dude right here. Technos. Fun. [00:05:14] Speaker B: Oh, no, no. Okay, yes, I have those. [00:05:17] Speaker A: Crocodile. [00:05:18] Speaker B: You were talking about this from series 33. [00:05:21] Speaker C: Oh, wow. Is that a snake tongue? Holy. [00:05:28] Speaker B: This is series 33. They went with Age of Pharaohs, so they're all kind of like, you know, Egyptian themed, but. [00:05:36] Speaker C: Oh, hell yeah. But yeah, it looks like a Nile album cover. And then I got like, ostrich guy. [00:05:42] Speaker B: I have the. I have the Technospawn series I think it was the series right before that where it was the six figures you could turn into the robot. [00:05:50] Speaker C: Yeah, I got. I have one of those, and I don't understand how it's supposed to work. [00:05:55] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I haven't even tried to take them out of the package to put him together. But, yeah, I have. I also have some of the Japanese, the medcon figures, little cubics. I have all those. So, yeah, it's. It's getting down to the nitty gritty. There's a couple, like, less than 6, like, paint variants that I'm looking for, or figure variants, but, I mean, that's it. [00:06:20] Speaker C: So it's gonna come down to a knife fight between you and Ty? [00:06:24] Speaker B: Oh, no. I'm sure Ty has, you know, everything a long time ago. No, wait. Although they're okay. So I think it was in 2025 when the. The Black Light clown came out. There was a collector's edition that comes in a box, and, like, he glows under black light. [00:06:43] Speaker C: Whoa, that's cool. [00:06:44] Speaker B: Well, Ty had passed on it, and, you know, I had said in our group chat, I said, I'm gonna go ahead and grab it. And he says, you know, I'm just curious as to why. He's like, I don't want it, but I'm curious as to why, you know, you want to get it. And I said, you know, it's a different paint application. I said, you know, it glows under the black light. I think it's cool. And he's like, you know, just wondering, you know, why, you know, I was actually going to purchase it. Well, here we come, like, a couple years later. And he goes, hey, man, if you come across one of those glow in the dark or black light, you know, clowns, you know, let me know. And, you know, they're selling for, like, you know, 100 bucks, 80 bucks. And he's like, what the hell, man? And I'm like, you know. You know. You know, he should have grabbed it back then. It wasn't, you know, wasn't that expensive. So I may have one more thing that he does, but I'm sure he has what, you know, way more figures than I do, but pretty great. [00:07:36] Speaker A: Awesome. [00:07:37] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:07:38] Speaker A: So what do you level up with next? Like, what's the next challenge? Like, I would say what I would suggest, what if you went for a full U.S. mcFarlane period? [00:07:48] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:07:49] Speaker A: Movie Maniac. Sleepy Hollow. [00:07:51] Speaker B: Matrix. [00:07:54] Speaker A: Next step. [00:07:54] Speaker B: Oh, figures. Lord, no. This. This room is bursting. [00:07:58] Speaker C: Like, Next. [00:07:58] Speaker A: Like Movie Maniacs. You get all those, and it's like, okay, I do have. [00:08:03] Speaker B: For the movie Maniacs, I do have Pumpkinhead because that was like, myself. [00:08:07] Speaker A: I have tons of those. [00:08:08] Speaker B: I. You know, Pumpkin has such an underrated, like, horror, like, character. I mean, his backstory, everything, and he's just, like, gotten pushed aside. [00:08:16] Speaker A: He's right. That movie's great. I love Lance Parkinson. [00:08:18] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. [00:08:19] Speaker C: I've not seen Pumpkinhead, Joe Bob Briggs [00:08:22] Speaker A: covered in a shutter like, a few years ago. [00:08:24] Speaker B: Nice, David. It truly does like the origin story. Everything is great. But, like, some of the. The remakes and sequels just got like, super campy and then it just went, you know, it. It just kind of, you know, as they do. [00:08:37] Speaker C: As they do. [00:08:38] Speaker B: Yeah, Make a note. And you know, check out Pumpkinhead. We didn't. [00:08:42] Speaker A: One of my favorite action figures of all time is the Movie Maniacs, Edward Scissorhands. And I. I was in 10th grade. I opened the. Out of that and it was one of the best acts. It was so detailed and all the scissors move separately. [00:08:53] Speaker B: Really? [00:08:54] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:08:55] Speaker C: Hands, scissors. [00:08:57] Speaker A: He was like, perfect. Like, it was one of my favorite figures. That and I love the Sleepy Hollow line. I love their Matrix one line. They did like a bunch of like, kind of like almost diorama. Like, both their Matrix lines were good for the sequels and like, one and then I don't really remember. I really liked the monster playsets in like the late 90s because it was like a fan of the opera Wolfman, but It was like McFarlane's monsters. And they're like, they like to spawn the movie. Remember when they were doing the little playsets? Yeah, one of those. [00:09:30] Speaker C: I don't know. Mark just got up, which means he's about to show us something. [00:09:37] Speaker A: But to. [00:09:37] Speaker B: To answer your question, what I'm gonna go focus on next are like, all the trading card sets. [00:09:44] Speaker C: Okay. [00:09:44] Speaker A: Oh, spogs. [00:09:48] Speaker B: I. I don't have any spogs. Actually. I have one that Ty sent me a few years ago. So I have one, but I haven't tried those yet. [00:09:55] Speaker C: I imagine you could use that challenge coin as a slammer. [00:09:59] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Oh, actually, the. The spawns, they. They had a mail away. [00:10:06] Speaker C: Oh, nice. [00:10:07] Speaker B: A slammer that you were able to get. So, yeah, I do have one of those, but I don't have the, you know, the actual spogs themselves. [00:10:16] Speaker A: But [00:10:19] Speaker B: no, what I'm, you know, concentrating on next are the cards and the, the. The power cards spawn set. All right. I'm down to one card. There's 190 cards in this set. Some of the Cards are rare or ultra rare, and I've helped a couple of my friends complete theirs. But card 107 vertebreaker is like, I can't find it. [00:10:42] Speaker A: It's a collectible card game or it's [00:10:44] Speaker B: a. Yeah, look up power cards. Oh, with a Z. Yeah. Well, there was a spawn set. 190 cards in the set. There's no, like, chase cards or anything like that, but they put ultra rare cards in there, which I think was just a dick move, because this card is, like, rare. And I watched a guy open a pack on YouTube, and he wasn't really saying if he wanted to complete the set or if he, you know, really knew the value of the cards. And I messaged him and I said, look, I have a 20 bounty on that card if you're not going to complete the set. And he said he would think about it. [00:11:19] Speaker A: So 20 bucks? Offer him 40. [00:11:22] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:11:22] Speaker B: Right. Well, it. It's on this one site that I go to where I found a couple the other rare cards. They had a. It was $10 for that card. So I'm like, all for 20 bucks for the card. Yeah. So I'm. I need one card to finish that set, and then there's, like, a few chase cards that I need to complete some of the others. So, yeah, that's my next focus. But when you said collect everything McFarlane I did pick up, like, super cheap on ebay. I did get. Let's see, his first. What was it like? In the back of the book is the first time that he was printed was, you know, the Coyote book. [00:12:05] Speaker C: Huh. [00:12:06] Speaker B: So this was, like, the first time anything of McFarlane was published. And then the infinity issue number 28, his actual first full book. And they were, like, super cheap on ebay. So I did get those. I did go after, like, you know, a few weird, random things. But, yeah, I'm not gonna try to get all the figures. There's no way I could fit them all in this room. No way. [00:12:34] Speaker C: That would be a lot. That would be a massive undertaker. [00:12:38] Speaker A: I'm gonna try to fit into this room, into this podcast. Right now is the final of this trilogy, like we were saying, because this is respawn. For each week, we're bringing two issues from Spawn's universe. Except when we don't. And this week is no different. We have two issues from Spawn's universe. Except we don't. We have one issue. [00:12:57] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:12:58] Speaker A: Two chapters. Chapter three and six of this 50. This number 50 crossover extravaganza. Why does he love that so much? I Think he literally likes Pulp Fiction because he always, like. Like, there'll be, like, a drunk guy in a bar and Spawn, he's like, yeah, it's like some out of a Tarantino movie. Like, it's like, like 50 issues of Swan. I swear. [00:13:24] Speaker B: Yeah, he does like to jump around. [00:13:27] Speaker C: He does. [00:13:27] Speaker A: Loves the little time thing. He's like, oh, watch this. [00:13:30] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:13:31] Speaker A: Very 90s. And, like. Because, like, there's like, what's the other movie Go? Jumps around in Time. Run Lower, Run Lola, Rent, Memento. I've never actually seen Momento. [00:13:46] Speaker B: That is a really good movie. [00:13:48] Speaker A: I haven't seen it. [00:13:49] Speaker B: Like, Christian Bale, he literally loses a ton of weight to play that role. That's not what's good about it, but it's a really good movie. Once you find out, like, what's going [00:13:58] Speaker C: on, what's happening, what, for Memento or the Machinists? Because I know Christian Bale lost a lot of. [00:14:08] Speaker B: Yes, I have seen Momento, but, yes, it's the Machinist. I'm thinking of York. [00:14:11] Speaker C: Oh, that movie's. That movie's up. [00:14:14] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:14:16] Speaker C: He was so small, and that was like. [00:14:18] Speaker A: Like two episodes of the show. [00:14:19] Speaker C: That was either right before or right after he did Batman. Right before he did Batman. [00:14:24] Speaker A: Right before he did Batman. It was in the middle. [00:14:25] Speaker B: It was before. [00:14:26] Speaker A: I think it was after Batman Begins or right before Batman. [00:14:30] Speaker C: That's insane. That's. A body shouldn't do that. [00:14:33] Speaker B: No, that's. But that's like, some serious dedication to your role. Yeah. [00:14:37] Speaker A: We are doing one issue response universe. Two chapters. Score. 50. Yes, sir. Todd McFarlane. [00:14:48] Speaker B: Yeah. Once it finally came out, because this issue was delayed, I think it was pushed back. [00:14:52] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:14:53] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:14:54] Speaker A: And it's so funny because it's like all of chapter three, we're like, yeah, I know it's Terry. I know it's Terry. I know it's Terry because I showed his wallet. He's like, hey, Spawn, you might know. [00:15:03] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:04] Speaker A: It's like, yeah, we know. [00:15:06] Speaker B: He just. Just the way he kind of broke it up between the book, it makes [00:15:09] Speaker A: chapter three kind of inert. It just makes it pointless. [00:15:12] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:15:12] Speaker B: Yeah, it does it, Johnny. [00:15:14] Speaker C: To me, it feels like having watched episode three for the first time being like, yeah. It just connects the two films that are on either side of it. We get it. [00:15:23] Speaker A: That's. That's. It's. There either be something interesting that happens in three, Chapter three, or he needs not to tip his hand as much. Yeah. Because like. [00:15:34] Speaker C: Like, yeah, I don't know, Johnny. This was. This this was real subtle. It was a real. He played. He played it real close. [00:15:41] Speaker A: Last one, like, zoomed in on his wall. I was like, where'd he go? He got raptured. [00:15:46] Speaker C: I don't know. I was on the edge of my seat. Didn't know it was going. [00:15:48] Speaker B: Maybe people won't notice that Terry's wallet is laying there and his clothes, you know, and he just totally, like. [00:15:55] Speaker A: He went to Spawn and was like, you may not be who you. I think you think I am. [00:16:00] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, yeah. We'll get to it. But, like, the way that he just. The way Todd explains it is just. It's. It's kind of insulting. [00:16:08] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:16:08] Speaker A: I will say it's a better. It serves as a better scorch 50 than as a gunslinger 50. [00:16:14] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:16:15] Speaker C: True. [00:16:16] Speaker A: Jessica Swan doesn't have a hero moment. Or Jessica's Priest has a hero moment at the end. [00:16:20] Speaker C: Jessica Spawn. [00:16:22] Speaker A: Jessica Spawn. [00:16:23] Speaker B: And she's in it for more than one time. [00:16:24] Speaker A: Spawn calls her Jess. I'm like, you never call her. He goes, yes. You never called her that before. I don't know. I can't wait to get into it. Boys, we got a feast ahead of us. [00:16:33] Speaker C: Well, we gotta. We gotta start where we always do then. Johnny Mark with the covers. Iron cover B. The puppeteer Lee. Because it's the fucking Puppeteer Lee. You gotta get the Puppeteer Lee. [00:16:45] Speaker A: I got the A, because I have a sucker for black and white and red numbers repeated. And, you know, it's what they had today because I, I. This is one of the ones when I moved, when I went to my comic shop to pick up all the back issues, they didn't have this one. And I went on a whim today and went to wizards asylum, that 71st and Mingo in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and got it for five American dollars plus tax and read it. [00:17:11] Speaker B: So I. I've had my. My copy, you know, in. In preparation for this episode. Just down here on the bottom shelf of my desk. See, I just had out my. My reader copy. The. [00:17:23] Speaker C: The Todd McFarlane. [00:17:24] Speaker A: So do you have all the covers? [00:17:26] Speaker B: Yes, I do. I have. It was the puppeteer Lee. It was a Scotty Young. It was this one. But the only one that I did. The. What I do. The. I did the 1 in 54 was gunslinger. No, I did the 1 in 100 for gunslinger. [00:17:41] Speaker A: Oh, man. [00:17:41] Speaker C: There was a Mark Spears cover. That's awesome. [00:17:43] Speaker A: Oh, my God. We gotta look this up. [00:17:45] Speaker C: It's. It's. It's Jessica Priest doing the. The classic. [00:17:49] Speaker A: What's the C Cover C cover, I [00:17:52] Speaker C: think, is the is Scotty Young. Okay, so A is the Todd McFarlane with the Johnny has with the red and black numbers. Cover B is the puppeteer Lee that I got. Cover C is the Scotty Young, which is Jessica Priest standing on some skulls shooting a big gun. [00:18:11] Speaker A: Cover D is awesome. [00:18:13] Speaker C: Cover D is a blank. Cover E is the Mark Spears. [00:18:16] Speaker A: The Mark Spears is awesome. [00:18:18] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:18:18] Speaker A: The 50. Like the molten 50 over her head. That rules. [00:18:22] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:18:24] Speaker C: Cover F is another Todd McFarlane. It's just the. The one without the trade dress. Cover G is also Todd McFarlane, and it's just a black and white sketch variant. Oh, no. Cover H is the sketch variant. [00:18:42] Speaker A: Scotty Young is actually amazing, but I would say I would go with the Marc Spears because she has been holding the weight of this series on her shoulders. And she's from the strength line. [00:18:54] Speaker B: Yeah, right. Yeah. [00:18:55] Speaker A: In this issue, she's a badass. And I was like, thank God she got a cool hero moment. [00:18:59] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:18:59] Speaker A: At least she was, like, the star of her own book on, like, Gunslinger. He was like, hey, what's up? He's over there. [00:19:05] Speaker B: He was in Gunslinger was one panel, so at least Jessica's in at least two, I think. [00:19:10] Speaker A: Yeah, she did something. [00:19:13] Speaker B: I didn't count, but yeah. Yeah, at least she's just not just there leaning on the wall, waiting for Terry to show up. [00:19:18] Speaker A: Oh, my God. Anyway, all right, so that's the covers. We crack this puppy open, and we got the credits. [00:19:24] Speaker C: Yes. [00:19:25] Speaker A: We got script plot by the one, the only Todd McFarlane. Art by Steven Segovia for pages one through 15. [00:19:32] Speaker C: Wrong. They have those switched. They have those switched. Carlo Barberry is obviously 1 through 15, and Steven Segovia is obviously 16. Yeah, they don't. They done goofed it. [00:19:48] Speaker A: Colors by Danae Riviero, building for In World Design. We already covered the extensive list of covers because Tom McFarland, he loves a number. He loves a nice round zero. He does, but we love him for it. [00:20:02] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:20:03] Speaker A: Creative directors. And we celebrate every zero, except for, like, the tens. But like 250. 200. We've always do something special. [00:20:11] Speaker C: Yeah, 350. We did 350. [00:20:14] Speaker A: No, for our. For our podcast. [00:20:17] Speaker C: Oh. [00:20:18] Speaker A: Episode. We're almost hitting three. We gotta figure out what we're doing for 300. [00:20:20] Speaker C: We gotta figure out what we'RE doing for 200. [00:20:22] Speaker A: Jack Sniders. 300. [00:20:24] Speaker C: We could do that. [00:20:25] Speaker A: Director's commentary. [00:20:26] Speaker C: Except for I. I. We. Our. Our movies. Our movie episodes haven't been titled or numbered with the same numbering. So they're just like one offs. Whoops. [00:20:38] Speaker A: Thing. [00:20:39] Speaker B: How many episodes you guys up to now? [00:20:42] Speaker A: This is what, 285. [00:20:44] Speaker C: 184. 5. [00:20:46] Speaker A: 185. Sorry, sorry. Numbers. [00:20:48] Speaker B: Okay. Because I, I, I started listening to you guys like in the early seven when you guys were in your early 70s episode wise. Not, you know. [00:20:56] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:20:59] Speaker B: That's about the time that Spawncon was going on. [00:21:01] Speaker C: Oh yeah. This is 186. [00:21:03] Speaker B: 186. Wow. I haven't missed an episode. I've listened to everyone. I even go back. [00:21:10] Speaker A: The first, the first horrible audio and [00:21:15] Speaker C: then those ones in the middle where I discovered drops. [00:21:19] Speaker A: Hey, we're doing a journey. The journey. [00:21:21] Speaker C: It is a journey. We know. We learned. You learned the hard way. I learned the hard way. [00:21:26] Speaker A: Creative director. You learned the hard way. The creative director who is Todd McFarland and who's learning the hard way and working the hard work. And we love him. Editor in chief, Mr. Thomas Healey. [00:21:38] Speaker B: Did you see on Instagram that they're doing a. I don't remember if it's a miniseries or if it's a one off, but the salmon Twitch, like noir. It's like a detective stories like set back in the 50s. [00:21:52] Speaker A: So yeah, we all know now that has the Amazon prime account. Has watched Spider Man Noir. [00:21:58] Speaker B: Right? It was. It's called the war. It's called. [00:22:00] Speaker A: That's cool. That's cool. [00:22:02] Speaker B: No, no, no. It's sandwich. Gangland or gang. [00:22:04] Speaker A: Oh, cool. [00:22:06] Speaker B: Stories or it's a one off or I don't remember. The. The artist posted the COVID He says, like, I'm finally allowed to say something and it's gang something. I just saw it. [00:22:19] Speaker C: Gangland. Yeah. [00:22:21] Speaker B: Yes. Does it say it's a miniseries or a one off brand? [00:22:24] Speaker C: Miniseries. [00:22:25] Speaker A: Okay. Nice. Hell yeah. [00:22:27] Speaker C: Detectives are pulled into a brutal case connected to a string of murders dating back to 1920s New York City. And the suspect might not be entirely human. [00:22:36] Speaker A: Who's writing it? [00:22:38] Speaker C: Frank Terry. Frank Thierry. [00:22:43] Speaker B: Cool. [00:22:44] Speaker A: I can't wait. I'm always Pro Sam and Twitch content. [00:22:47] Speaker C: Yeah, definitely. [00:22:49] Speaker A: So I saw an article online that like Jeremy Renner was like, yeah, I'm still like, I'm on board to play Twitch. Like the top of the really wants Jeremy Renner to play Twitch, which I think is an interesting casting choice. I would go for someone. [00:23:02] Speaker C: It's a very interesting casting choice. [00:23:04] Speaker A: Less tough. [00:23:05] Speaker C: A little. [00:23:07] Speaker A: I want a little more. [00:23:08] Speaker C: A little Weasley or a little more [00:23:10] Speaker A: like Sibushimi or like. [00:23:12] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. [00:23:12] Speaker A: I mean not him, but like a little Nevish. [00:23:15] Speaker C: Here. [00:23:16] Speaker A: A little Nebuchair. Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:23:17] Speaker C: A Griffin Newman. [00:23:19] Speaker A: I would cast David over for me. [00:23:24] Speaker B: David, yeah, he. I could see that. Yeah. He could be a twitch. [00:23:28] Speaker C: Yeah. Because I don't. [00:23:31] Speaker B: Because you don't. [00:23:33] Speaker A: I'm just like. I'm just like, okay, is this gonna happen yet again or is he gonna miss? Because he. Every. Every seven to eight years, it's like the Spawn movies happening. It's happening, it's happening. And he just won't let go of control. [00:23:45] Speaker B: And then it's like, yeah, but we're [00:23:47] Speaker A: not gonna do it then, dude. Like, it seems to be the pattern. [00:23:50] Speaker B: And did you hear, like, I. I kept seeing all these articles pop up. They're saying, oh, the spa movie's in production. The spawn moves in production because someone interviews. [00:23:57] Speaker A: Like, yeah, Like, Bloom House was like, yeah, we're still working on it. Don't worry about. [00:24:00] Speaker B: Yeah, but then at San Diego Comic Con, somebody asked Todd in an interview, and he says, no. He says, we don't have a script yet. So he says, every time they send it to me, he goes, I reject it. I send it back. Yeah. So, yeah, he didn't say, you know, come out, say, no, the movie's not under production. But he sat there and said himself that he doesn't have a script, so there's no way anything's in production. [00:24:23] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:24:23] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:24:25] Speaker B: So, yeah. Where all those articles. [00:24:26] Speaker A: I think he needs to let it go a little bit because, like, there was that whole rumor that he was going to direct it. I think that's what he wants to do. Like, it's just my little theory. I don't have any, like, news to substantiate that. But he keeps rejecting it, keeps being difficult. Like, if Blue has want to make a 30 to 50 million dollars spawn movie, they probably make, like, 60 to 100 million, like, easily. And, like, they could do it. But I think he's just holding it back because he's like. Because there was that rumor. It was like, 20, 13, 12, 11, 13, he. That proof of Concept, and it's going to be like, Spawns barely in the movie. But he wanted to write and direct it. He had a deal, it was going to happen, and then it just all got pulled. He had, like, Proof of Concept trailer that he made. And then I think he's just, like, holding on to that dream where it's like, you're going to have to let it go, Johnny, a little bit. I would say maybe I'm projecting, but that's my theory. [00:25:17] Speaker C: He's holding out for A hero. [00:25:20] Speaker A: Chris or fucking Nolan. Who's he want? [00:25:22] Speaker C: No, no, no. Spot. Spot is the hero. He's holding out for a hero. [00:25:26] Speaker A: Well, he's. He also was talking about the interview, right? I saw him quoted. He was like, yeah, we want to do TV shows about Sam and Twitch and the Gunslinger. And, like, he was, like, talking like he was Kevin Feige or J.J. abrams or some. [00:25:38] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. He's saying that all that's going to come bundled in with the movie deal. Once the movie gets, you know, green lit, then. [00:25:43] Speaker A: Well, he's just waiting for that. Yeah, exactly that. [00:25:47] Speaker B: You know, everything else will. Will come after. [00:25:49] Speaker A: So he needs to hit it, like, right now. Like, he's, like, almost past the point where he's the hit. Cuz like, that nostalgia for that 90s, like, Spawn will get lost in the shuffle with that if you don't get, like, a little bit of a bump. [00:26:01] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:26:02] Speaker A: But I will say when, like, you do have strangers who, like, I have a shirt on or a hat, like, I'm reading a small comic at, like, an airport one time a guy, when they, like, recognize it, like, it activates something, and it's kind of special. Like, people, like, really respond to it that are like, oh, man, I used to love Spawn. Or, like, I do love Spawn. Like, it's cool to randomly find people. I don't know if that's ever happened to you guys. Once. I swear, once I was reading at an airport, like. Like, I was having breakfast, and the, like, server guy was like, oh, man, you Spawn. I love Spawn. Like, he talked about it for, like, five minutes. [00:26:37] Speaker B: Honestly, most of the people that I run into, they said the first. You know, what I get is who? Spawn. [00:26:43] Speaker C: That's what I get a lot, too. [00:26:44] Speaker B: I have to explain it to them. But, [00:26:48] Speaker A: boy, in the 90s, who are you? [00:26:50] Speaker B: Yeah, I recently started traveling for work, and I was, you know, going into different comic shops. And one of the guys that I was talking to, I asked him, you know, if, you know, I like to ask the shops that I go into, like, is, you know, spawn popular? You know, do you sell a lot of Spawn? And some say a couple say no, not, you know, maybe in their area. But one guy that I talked to said that in his shop, he says, spawn sells really well. And he says, you know, and then somehow we got on the topic of, you know, collecting other things. And he says, honestly, he goes, a lot of the Spawn group, he goes, that's all they collect, you know, because I think that's what I would. I told Him. I said, that's my entire collection is just Spawn. And he says. He says that's how most of the Spawn collectors are. You guys, you know, just, you know, collect Spawns. And I told him. I said, you know, I never really gravitated to any of the other superheroes or any. Any of the other books. And there's so many books in the Spawn universe now. I don't need to go anyplace else. [00:27:44] Speaker A: Exactly. [00:27:45] Speaker B: Because I don't see how. I mean, you know, if a lot of these collectors out there, if they're buying, you know, all these Marvel titles and these DC titles and whatever, I mean, are they actually reading them, or are they just collecting them? Because how could you keep all of those stories straight? [00:27:57] Speaker A: Yeah, Yeah. I mean, Todd Universe. And, like, it's fun just to have. Like, I found, like, I like going to comic shops. So I got into Covid. So we told the story many times in the podcast. But, yeah, I. In Fangoria, I read about Nice House on the Lake, and I was like, I want to read that. It's like, it looks like the next loss. And so I went to. I went to Challengers. I stumbled into Challengers. I see. [00:28:21] Speaker B: On my way to work. [00:28:22] Speaker A: I was like, do you have this book? And he, like, pointed left of him. It was like, their book of the week. I was like, oh, I'll take that. I was like, can I, like, subscribe to this? And they explained it to me and picked out a few others, and then I bought, like, everything, like, for a while. This is Covid. I had Covid money. Like, I didn't have anything to do. I wasn't going anywhere. And I was buying, like, indies. Like, I was keeping up with anything that mildly interests me, I'll buy it. And then it got overwhelming. [00:28:45] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:28:45] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:28:46] Speaker A: And that was, like, a year and a half, two years in. But in that time is when I was kind of interested in the Spawn. Like, picked them up and looked at them every time. But I was like, I don't know what's going on. And then when I heard, like, King Swan coming out, I was like, oh. And I bought it. Like, I, like, reserved the first copy and, like, subscribed to it instantly. And, like, that's when I was, like, texting David, like, yo, yeah, start a Spawn podcast. [00:29:10] Speaker C: I do. I do believe it was, like, a. A text at, like, 10:30 at night. [00:29:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:29:16] Speaker C: And I do believe the first tech text was. David, I'm drunk. We need to do a Spawn podcast. [00:29:23] Speaker B: It doesn't matter how. How the show was born. It's. It makes for a great story. [00:29:29] Speaker A: But it was just that. That there was. It was so exciting to be like. And like, Todd McFarlane, like, I don't know, like, he needs to figure out his stride with how much creative versus production control. Because, like, that launch of those, like, scores. Gunslinger King Swan. And it was. That was it, right? [00:29:49] Speaker B: Yeah. And the main title. Yeah, there were four. [00:29:51] Speaker A: Yeah, well, the main. But like, the launch of those three, it's huge. [00:29:54] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:29:54] Speaker A: I was like, monumental. And all the first issues were big, thick. [00:29:58] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:29:58] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:29:59] Speaker A: They're like a toy fair. They're like a wizard magazine for the 90s. [00:30:03] Speaker B: Did you get the Spawns universe book? Yeah. [00:30:06] Speaker A: Yes. Yeah, I got that. I got that online to, like, catch up. I bought on ebay for like, five or six bucks. So, like, be like, okay, I gotta figure this out. So I bought that too. [00:30:19] Speaker B: Yeah. And honestly, I think, you know, for him to expand the universe the way that he did, he picked the perfect time to do it. I mean, he. I don't think. I think it was just dumb luck because his expansion of the universe hit right as we were going into lockdown for Covid. So I think if he would have tried to do that either before COVID was a thing or after. I don't. I think he was in the perfect window. Because everybody's at home. [00:30:47] Speaker A: So use that perfect window of 90s nostalgia. It's like right around that time, I had rewatched Spawn because I was at home and it was on hbo. And that probably had a lot to do with. It was on hbo. Max. It was like, popped up my things, like, yeah, I'll watch Spawn. And I was, like, thinking about it and people got into action figures again. Like McFarlane. Like, it was. I think you're right. He struck it, like, just by probably dumb luck. It had to be in production a couple years before. [00:31:11] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. You know, this whole thing had been, you know, in the works. But it just so happened that it hit, you know, right in the middle of COVID I mean, I'm sure that these would have all been successful on their own. But I know that helped propel it and, you know, I think really helped. [00:31:26] Speaker A: And what. He lost track. This. Here's the track to this 50 we lost track with that is there were three. They all three had awesome covers. A covers. All the covers were stellar. Especially the A covers on all of them. Yeah, they were thick and they were great, and they were different. And like, what with these 50s of all three of them, it's all kind of the same muddled stew. Todd McFarlane Stew of, like, the world's gonna end. We gotta do this. We're gonna get Terry Superpowers. [00:31:57] Speaker B: Spoiler. Yeah. I think, you know, it felt so [00:32:01] Speaker A: different, even Scorch, like, even though it was written by Sean Lewis as well, I think, but. But, like, it felt like this, like, G.I. joe, like, mission that they stormed that Russian base. It was crazy. [00:32:11] Speaker C: Yeah. Like, it was issue seven, which was awesome. [00:32:15] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:32:15] Speaker B: Yeah. I think they tried too hard to make this, like, a big arc. [00:32:20] Speaker A: I wish they just did it. That's the thing, though. It's like, it was. It feels too similar to the Portland arc. It's too close. You can't do that. That close. Yeah, I think you can't, really. Oh, you gotta buy all of them. It's like you just did that. Like, it would have been like, what? This came out finally in April this year, and the other ones were, like, late last year and then. But the. The Portland arc, like, wrapped up in, like, August last year, and it's like, you can't do it that fast. [00:32:50] Speaker B: Yeah, but he also. I think he tried. Pushed too hard to like, make all the 50s the same, and they kind of lost their individuality, like, with covers. I mean, they could have done one cover, you know, that shows the 50, but then the other one, you know, just a regular, you know, normal cover. Because, I mean, they're all the same. All three titles are the same. Yeah, essentially. [00:33:13] Speaker C: Yeah, It's. [00:33:14] Speaker B: But, you know, I mean, I get what he was trying to do. [00:33:16] Speaker A: They tried it, but it just. It makes it disappointing. As someone who was there at the beginning, what got them into Spawn to wrap the loop on this story? My history of comics is like, it was like, that's what I feel about the. If this is the end of the 50s, this is return of the Jedi of our trilogy. [00:33:35] Speaker B: And then they're doing. But they're doing, like, I think, too close together. All these, you know, incentive covers, you know. [00:33:43] Speaker A: Yeah. They got to spread it out. [00:33:44] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:33:44] Speaker B: All these, you know, one in one hundreds and, you know, one in 250s. I like, you know, doll, you know, all the big fans out there. It's like I've had a bunch of, you know, you know, big collectors say, you know, it's really, you know, ticking them off. Like, you know, if, you know, it makes it not fun. It makes it feel like, you know, you just have to get everything. And, I mean, you don't, but it's. It's all too close together. [00:34:07] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:34:08] Speaker A: What's funny, because it's almost exactly what he did with the Spawn figures and the variants in the 90s, and we got sick of it. And then, like, it's like you're doing the same thing again with these comic covers. Person has. [00:34:20] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, they've definitely dialed it back, like, on all the variants, because, like, you know, series one of the figures. I know Angela had, like, 17. [00:34:28] Speaker A: Right. It was insane. [00:34:29] Speaker B: Paints. [00:34:29] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:34:30] Speaker B: It's like. [00:34:31] Speaker A: Well, that was when, like, Toy Fair and the price guy with the magazines they used to keep up with, like, like on the Star wars figures, like, that's my main base. I follow those. But, like, it was like, Luke with closed hands. It's like a factory error where his hand was still sealed. Killed. It was like Luke with gray vest versus black vests of the Return of the Jedi. Luke. Like, it got that specific in, like, the toy collector guys in the 90s because they didn't know. Because, like, the 70s toys, that all mattered, and that was worth so much. [00:34:59] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But now they purposefully. I mean, I don't know if they do it as much, but, you know, they purposely, purposely make, like, variants, you know, different things to go over, like, with the. Which I was fortunate enough to get the ones that I wanted out of the first four boxes of the new Q figs. I really like those. Have you guys gotten those yet? [00:35:21] Speaker C: I haven't gotten any of them. You know, I keep forgetting to look for them at the. At the shop. [00:35:25] Speaker B: They're. They're sold at Target and GameStop. [00:35:30] Speaker A: Okay. If I see one of the wild, I'll buy it. [00:35:31] Speaker C: I see something. [00:35:32] Speaker A: Spawn in the wild. [00:35:34] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:35:34] Speaker C: I think I'll have to get a little. I think I'll have to go to Goth Target for that, because the small Target. [00:35:38] Speaker A: I was at Target the other day, and I almost lost Spawn, a savage dragon figure, because in the back, the picture with him, it was him and Spawn. [00:35:44] Speaker C: Nice. [00:35:45] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, I saw that. I'm like, I'm not buying that. Just because Spawns on the bottom, [00:35:50] Speaker A: too. [00:35:51] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. I've seen several of those, you know, in the store. But, see, I was able to get the, you know, the four that I wanted. But, you know, as far as variants go, there are different. There's like, a gold one and a noir one, and there is one that glows in the dark that I, you know, would like to get. But yeah, I'm not trying to chase all of those down. [00:36:08] Speaker A: We famously gave away a bloody violator variant. [00:36:12] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:36:13] Speaker A: At an event at A comic shop in Chicago. [00:36:16] Speaker C: It was, it was for the, the 350. [00:36:19] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:36:20] Speaker A: Hey guy. Got it. [00:36:21] Speaker B: So has somebody finally gotten a violator book? [00:36:24] Speaker A: No, nope, don't email us. You need to put it out there. Yeah, someone needs to message you on Instagram. [00:36:33] Speaker B: Yeah, I, I, I, I will do it again. [00:36:34] Speaker A: The only proof that they show is they are subscribing to our podcast on some form of. Yeah, if you want to put that out there, we'd be internally grateful. [00:36:43] Speaker B: Yeah, I, I think I did like once before. [00:36:45] Speaker A: David just wants to go to the post office. [00:36:46] Speaker C: I do, I do, I love going to the post office. I gotta, I got something I gotta go to the post office for you, Johnny. But I'm not gonna tell you what it is because it's a surprise. But I gotta get the right thing to put it in first. [00:36:58] Speaker B: Oh, and then also do you know the constructive figs that they, they made? [00:37:04] Speaker C: Constructive figs? [00:37:05] Speaker A: I've, you told us about them last time. [00:37:07] Speaker B: Okay, well I wasn't gonna buy one. I wasn't gonna buy any. So here's a quick little story. I happen to be up in Canada about three weeks ago and I went into an EB Games up there. [00:37:25] Speaker A: They still exist up there. [00:37:26] Speaker B: And yeah, which actually they told me the girl that was working said they just a few months ago have separated themselves from GameStop so they're their own entity now. [00:37:37] Speaker C: Oh, nice. [00:37:42] Speaker B: Bud. Actually if you want to know, seriously, it stands for Electronics Boutique. [00:37:49] Speaker A: No, I remember because I remember that's what they're. [00:37:51] Speaker B: But yeah, I believe in Canada. Yeah, yeah, it's a bud. [00:37:57] Speaker A: Funko Land exists in the malls where you grew up like in the 90s. [00:38:00] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, I love Funko Land. Yeah, I used to buy, going there to buy games all the time. [00:38:04] Speaker A: Oh yeah, the whole price got like the printed out page every month or so. [00:38:10] Speaker B: Oh yeah, yeah, I do remember that [00:38:12] Speaker A: Funko Land was like A, before GameStop. [00:38:15] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, there was Funko Land we, when we, we had Electronics Boutique down here. Because I remember when Gamestop bought Electronics Boutique, right? That was at like the local mall. [00:38:28] Speaker A: Do you remember Suncoast? Yes, I love Sun Ghost. [00:38:32] Speaker B: I don't think I really went in there but they had a lot of [00:38:34] Speaker A: McFarlane figures in the 2000s actually. Good, he did too. [00:38:40] Speaker B: I, I do remember seeing them at Sam Goody, but when I, when I was buying figures like back in the day I was going to Toys R [00:38:47] Speaker A: Us and Walmart is there that had them out the shelves early, right? [00:38:50] Speaker B: Oh yeah, yeah. I mean they were Always, you know, hanging there. And I remember getting. I don't have that one anymore, but I remember going there and getting the, the Santa spawn, you know, from issue 39. [00:39:01] Speaker A: Just go in there when they toys rest when they open. [00:39:04] Speaker B: Oh, did I go there when they help? No, I wasn't like probably that, you know, into, you know, figures where I was sitting there on their doorstep waiting for them to open. [00:39:11] Speaker A: But I was into the Star wars figures when I was a kid. And it was tough because like, I remember one time my parents paid $20 in 1997. 6. Yeah, for $20, like $40 today for a Princess Leia figure at a flea market because it was so rare. [00:39:31] Speaker B: Really. [00:39:31] Speaker A: Only had one. One per case. [00:39:34] Speaker B: Oh yeah. [00:39:35] Speaker A: Three Hans, three Luke's, three Darth Vaders, three Stormtroopers, two Obi Wans and one layer per case. [00:39:43] Speaker B: Really? Yeah, I, I do remember it was like, it would have been back like in the early 2000s I guess. They had were re releasing at that time the. Some motu figures. And I do remember that there was an evil Lynn that she was like one per every 12 cases. [00:39:58] Speaker A: 12? [00:39:59] Speaker C: Yeah, damn. [00:40:00] Speaker B: And I happened to be in the, I think it was the EB Electronics boutique when the guy had opened up the case and that one had the evil in it. So I bought it. I wasn't collecting motu figures. But he's like, here, this is super rare. [00:40:14] Speaker A: I'm like, okay, yeah, but one of those crazy opportunities in your life is like, because I kept up with toys and like. So the Phantom Menace wave, everyone's seen them at the Comic Con. The red Darth Maul face. Little Star wars action figures. Yeah, I had all of them when I was a kid. Like out of box. Of course. [00:40:32] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:40:33] Speaker A: And that was like seventh, eighth, ninth grade. But like the summer after eighth grade there was a final wave that was released like six action figures. It was hologram Sidious Padme with like Grappling Hook and a couple other like Qui Gon and Obiwan with like soft goods and instead of like, like actual soft bits on those little figures. Yeah, and I never saw him in a Target. Never saw him anywhere. I was at Branson. We went to a closeout store that close out wall in Branson with my friends, like the summer after eighth grade. So this is like 2000 or 2001, like a year after the movie come out. [00:41:12] Speaker C: Was it the Tanger Outlet Center? [00:41:15] Speaker A: Yes, probably it was an outlet store. They had a wall of action figures and they had racks of the final wave of Phantom Menace. That, like, stores wouldn't buy because they had other Phantom Menace. [00:41:25] Speaker C: Nice. [00:41:25] Speaker A: And, like, they're rare. They're. And I bought them and opened them all, but, yeah, it was so. That was one of the coolest finds in my life. I always remember that, like, walked in there, I was like. They have Co Bibble. They have hologram Palpatine. They have Padme with Ascension gun. [00:41:41] Speaker B: That's awesome. [00:41:42] Speaker C: They have. Previously in the Scorched. Joni. [00:41:45] Speaker A: Oh, Jesus Christ. We haven't even gotten there yet. [00:41:49] Speaker B: No, we haven't. [00:41:50] Speaker A: So there's only one issue. David, you. Previously on. [00:41:52] Speaker C: Okay, so previously in the Scorched. With our heroes captured, Mammon's plans start to become clear. [00:42:02] Speaker A: Do they? [00:42:03] Speaker C: Well, I mean, they've been clear this whole time. [00:42:05] Speaker A: Yeah, pretty much. [00:42:07] Speaker C: At least to us. I don't know how clear they are to the people in the story, but. [00:42:12] Speaker A: So where are we, David? [00:42:13] Speaker C: So we start with chapter three, and it's a scene that unfolds. It's worse than what other either Terry or Mammon imagined. I'm. I'm really pissed off at the narration in this, making it seem as though Mammon is just a helpless bystander when he's not. When he's actually the person, like, fucking manipulating everything. Come on, don't write. [00:42:36] Speaker B: Don't, don't. [00:42:36] Speaker C: Don't do that bullshit. But we start with. We see. We see Mark, and we see Jim Downing just dangling from the ceiling. And we see Plaguespawn just, like, digging into Monolith, just, like, [00:42:53] Speaker A: throw him in the gas. [00:42:55] Speaker C: And, you know, the narration tells us that everybody's pretty sure Plaguespawn is insane. And actually Plague spawn died for a little bit. So that might be part of what. Why he's the same. [00:43:10] Speaker B: I do like the. In the narration here, that. Where Todd says that, he says the. The creature is the plague spawn, the first symbiote ever created in Hell. It failed, so it was discarded like a piece of disposable trash. Like, you put your trash. Do you have to say that? [00:43:29] Speaker C: It's. I thought that, too. I was like, it could have just been. It could have just been trash. [00:43:33] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, maybe he had a certain word count that he had to hit with this book, so he just. [00:43:37] Speaker A: But imagine Christopher Lee saying disposable trash. [00:43:40] Speaker C: Disposable trash. [00:43:43] Speaker A: Or, you know, some Shakespearean actor. It's kind of. I. I don't. Yeah, yeah. I mean, he. [00:43:49] Speaker C: His. [00:43:50] Speaker A: This narration did bug me in this issue. [00:43:52] Speaker C: It's disposable trash. [00:43:54] Speaker A: It's disposable trash. It's overdone. It's overcooked turkey. But, like, he does charm to it. But it's just like, like we said, like 20 minutes ago, this chapter is such a slog because you know the outcome. [00:44:07] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:44:07] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:44:08] Speaker A: I must say, there's zero tension here. [00:44:11] Speaker C: I must say, at the. [00:44:13] Speaker A: He's gonna take over, Terry. [00:44:15] Speaker C: Yeah. At. At the outset here, just before we get there. Actually, I didn't mind the chapter six. Chapter six moved by at a good clip. [00:44:25] Speaker A: We'll get to it. I don't even remember sticking to three. I'm so honed in on three. [00:44:29] Speaker C: But, but. So then we're. We're. We're going back over and over this thing that we've talked about in each of these issue 50s, that plague spawn can't take over a hell spawn. It doesn't work that way. And in each of those issues, we've seen plaguespawn try to take over a hellspawn, and it doesn't work. And here again, plaguespawn takes over a hell spawn and it doesn't work. [00:44:55] Speaker A: You know what I'm kind of realizing? I think there's a through thread here. [00:44:58] Speaker C: I think. I think he was. I think Todd was just like, here's. Here's two halves of the story. We're Gonna repeat these two halves of the story in each of these 50 books and make it seem like they're different parts of the story. [00:45:13] Speaker A: What's the Netflix like mantra? Like, make it so people that are on their phones can understand it while they watch it. [00:45:18] Speaker B: Listen to me on your phone while you're trying to read a comic book. We. We have enough common sense. [00:45:24] Speaker C: Hopefully not unless you're reading it. David. [00:45:26] Speaker A: What I'm saying is. Oh, true. It all comes together because I didn't think about it till now, but I've mentioned it already, came up tonight between Star wars action figures and me saying it's the Return of the Jedi. Of our trilogy of podcasts, this is very Return of the Jedi. You have the emperor and his little black hate monster with a red highlight attacking our pure hero of the comic being attacked by the Darth Vader, which is Blake Spawn with the Emperor, which is Mammon. [00:45:59] Speaker C: True. [00:46:00] Speaker A: It's very Emperor's throne room scene. Because he's just like. Oh, yeah. [00:46:04] Speaker C: He's like. [00:46:05] Speaker A: It's kind of the same vibe, but like, there's no tension. [00:46:10] Speaker B: No. Because I mean, he. Todd completely shows his cards in issue in the second book of the story. [00:46:16] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:46:17] Speaker A: And so he attacks he's like, okay, I'm taking over model. He's the biggest. [00:46:21] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:46:22] Speaker A: And then you have monolith. What feels like a future action figure. You have monolith Plague spawn. [00:46:27] Speaker C: Yeah, it's actually a pretty cool. It's. It's pretty cool looking. Not gonna lie. [00:46:31] Speaker B: Yeah, it is. Oh, yeah. They definitely could be a variant. [00:46:34] Speaker A: I like his surprise. Look. Look in like his eyes. [00:46:37] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. When. When it's. [00:46:38] Speaker B: Whoa. [00:46:39] Speaker C: When. When the creature stiffens with pain, like it's been electrocuted. [00:46:43] Speaker A: See, we don't so too short. This is still fun. It's fun, but it's just like, we know what's going to happen. [00:46:49] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:46:51] Speaker A: And the man's like, good job. You did it. [00:46:53] Speaker B: Ha ha. [00:46:53] Speaker A: I told you not to do it. Also, m just a twat. Like when twat McFarland ride friends. [00:47:02] Speaker C: McFarlane twat McFarlane. Is that what you meant to say, Johnny? [00:47:09] Speaker A: I write for Wizards magazine in the 90s and I'm making fun of Todd McFarlane. [00:47:17] Speaker C: And so. So maybe it's just like. [00:47:19] Speaker A: That's one thing I admire about Todd is he puts himself out there and he's not afraid. He's easily make fun of all. We make fun of him too, but we love him. Yeah, but like, that's what I love about him. He's just Todd, man. [00:47:33] Speaker C: Yeah. I was actually. Actually it's a. It's a well known thing even for people who don't care about Spawn. Because I was talking. I was trying to explain this particular comic to Wanda earlier and she was just like, does that man ever sleep? Like ever? I was like, no, no, he doesn't. No. He's got too much stuff to do. [00:47:52] Speaker A: He's like, it's like George Lucas, like in the like 20 years later. You're like, maybe he was right. I don't know. Who knows? He reminds me of George Lucas in a way. Like, there's very few authors that do have complete creative control over their things. [00:48:07] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:48:07] Speaker A: Like the first. The first six Star wars are an example. The only. The one that's most studio interfered is the first one. Yeah. Because he had a deal that like any sequels, he had complete creative control over. And he. Episodes one and one through three are the biggest independent films of all time. He's made him his ranch and sold him to Fox. [00:48:26] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:48:27] Speaker B: One of my favorite things though about George Lucas in Star wars is that the studio didn't think the movie was going to do anything. [00:48:33] Speaker A: Oh, no. [00:48:33] Speaker B: They gave him 100 control licensing, you know, control over figures and everything. Like, no, you can have it. You know, we don't care. [00:48:40] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:48:41] Speaker B: It's. You know, Star wars has blown up into what it is today. So they. [00:48:45] Speaker A: That's just basically like, stopped interfering with him. They're like, we don't understand this. You can do whatever the hell you want. [00:48:50] Speaker B: Right. [00:48:51] Speaker A: Like, even the first one, which was the one that was a studio movie because he had his contract, you know, Empire Strikes Back to independent film. [00:48:58] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:48:59] Speaker A: And which is crazy to think about. That's also amazing for George Lucas. Like, Lucasfilm wasn't it? Until Disney bought it, it was just like a ranch and Modesto, California or whatever it was. [00:49:13] Speaker C: It was like the original Robert Rodriguez's garage. [00:49:16] Speaker A: Yeah. But it was. Yeah, they basically just, like, didn't understand or, like, just try to make some money. Just like so much money on this. On you. After American Graffiti and they let him kind of do it. Even. Even on Star wars, the original, they would kind of let him do his own thing. And it obviously paid off. [00:49:33] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, for something that the. The studio had no faith in whatsoever, has blown up and, you know, to. What it is today is just. It's kind of funny in a way. You know, they. They lost a huge opportunity. [00:49:43] Speaker C: Right. They'll never make that mistake again. [00:49:45] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. The kids, they kept cutting his pay. He's like, okay, I'll take merchandising rights. I have all the merchandising and I own all the sequels. Okay, sure, whatever. [00:49:54] Speaker B: Yeah. They're like, we don't care. It's. This isn't going to go anywhere, you know? Yeah, and it obviously did. But I mean, I. I think it's good that, you know, you know, Todd has, you know, total control over Spawn, because, I mean, you know, whenever anything goes off the rails, we only have one person to blame, and that's Todd. You know, when he forgets about a storyline or whatever, it's not like another writer is coming on and trying to change things. It's just, you know, Todd, you know, doing what he does and. And forget. [00:50:21] Speaker A: He needs to let his. He hires good people that are underappreciated. He's let them have their reign. [00:50:27] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:50:29] Speaker A: He needs to get rid of that. That additional story and additional dialogue. [00:50:34] Speaker C: He needs to, like, Mammon, release all of the shackles, because he can do whatever the fuck he wants whenever he wants, and he just needs to let those people go. [00:50:44] Speaker B: Right. [00:50:45] Speaker A: Because Terry's like, okay, his Mammon's doing this weird thing. He's like, we gotta go. You should get away from Him. And he's like, okay, well, let's get fucking these guys out of here. [00:50:52] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:50:53] Speaker A: So Terry's trying to free Mark. I can't get him out. He's like, oh, my God. Just pissed me off. [00:51:00] Speaker C: Yeah. He's just being. He's just being a jerk. [00:51:03] Speaker A: Oh. And he's like, oh, I could do that anytime. [00:51:06] Speaker C: And then he's like, oh, no. Oh, no. I made. I made Plague Spawn and Mark and Jim Downing disappear to somewhere else. [00:51:13] Speaker B: But, I mean, as far as the. As the story goes, you know, regardless of how this ends, it doesn't make sense that those shackles were magically locked and Mammon knew this, so he sends Terry over there to open them. It. It doesn't make any sense as far as the story goes. [00:51:29] Speaker A: Also, the one missed opportunity that pissed me off when I got to this point in the issue. [00:51:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:51:33] Speaker A: Why didn't he make it a miss? He could have set it up to this point until this reveal. [00:51:38] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:51:39] Speaker A: Of Plex Spawn. New Spawn. But it could have been Terry, Jim, or Mark. Yeah. And you should have set up that mystery to be like. Like, set it up like this. He's like, pick your host. And he's, like, standing in front of him, and they show the spike with place while he knows Spawn. But you don't, like, quite get on the nose of, like, showing his wallet. And then in this, there's tension because it's like, who's it going to be? [00:52:07] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:52:08] Speaker A: Going to be Terry, Mark Twain, or Jim. [00:52:14] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:52:15] Speaker A: That's such a huge missed opportunity. [00:52:17] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:52:18] Speaker A: If you want to tell the story in this order, which I don't agree with, but if that's what you want to do, then that's a way you can make this order play in your advantage and be interesting as opposed to, like, hey, guys, I think Terry might be playing Spawn, Right? [00:52:32] Speaker B: Yeah, He. He definitely narrows it down. [00:52:34] Speaker A: And then so he. Everyone gets free. But then he's like, no, no, no. [00:52:39] Speaker C: Yeah. And Terry's like, I'm getting out of here. And Mammon just, like, makes himself a chair of rubble, and he says, I didn't say you could leave. I like to make it a chair out of rubble. That's pretty cool. And then, like, he gives Terry a heart attack when he tries to walk away. And then Mammon explains. Explains what he's doing. He's like, well, Plague Spawn is taking over Earth, and it's turning Earth into Hell. And Nyx has gone crazy since she's become Queen of Hell. And so God's gonna Be like two realms that are run by hell. Absolutely not. I'm gonna destroy Earth. And Mammon says that that's he needs to control plague spawn so that way he can prevent the world from being destroyed. And he says the way to, you know, he's like the way to control it is to give it, you know, a body that it can control that can then in turn be controlled by him. Rube Goldbergian this. [00:53:32] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:53:34] Speaker C: This plan which, you know, I just [00:53:36] Speaker B: want to point out that, I mean, you know, this is scorch 50. But like in the main story we're up to what, 376 and we have not heard that. We have not heard anything. I mean, and I know Rosenberg has taken over on the writing, but ever since, like maybe a couple issues after 50, we never heard about Nick's, you know, sitting on the throne again. [00:53:55] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:53:56] Speaker B: So, you know, she never came back up. [00:53:57] Speaker A: So I feel like Source needs to be removed from the hell. It's like a techno thrower. It's like X Men, like Earth based. [00:54:07] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:54:07] Speaker A: Like, it's like the best run of it was so far was John Layman's run. [00:54:10] Speaker C: It's like Batman and Detective comics. That's. They're. They're different. They're different. [00:54:14] Speaker A: It's not as. It's not as hell supernatural. It's more like a techie thriller where they have superpowers. [00:54:19] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:54:20] Speaker A: Is when I like it the best anyway. [00:54:23] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:54:23] Speaker B: Yeah. It's like the books, you know, they do need like a little bit more definition on like. I mean some of them have it like. I think Gunslinger is pretty well separated, [00:54:32] Speaker A: but stomach farms, it's just stop and start. Like it's the problem with Gunslinger is like you have this like lore with its characters. [00:54:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:54:40] Speaker A: Then they're completely ignored for like four or five months. Issues. I mean, it's just issues. But that's monster way to reading it day to day, day. And it just feels it. I always feel like I'm disappointed by. It's always a slap in the face. Like if I'm following Gunslinger, I know this and you're kind of like you need to be pushing this a little harder. Well, status quo change and like some more. And I feel like Deadly Tales would pick up the weight on that of like bringing the. The story weight and all that. But the main Gunslinger is always just like Todd, you gotta like do. You can't just keep tease. I don't know. I don't know how to put into words. [00:55:19] Speaker B: Well, the. You know, Todd has a couple months ago has, you know, decided he was going to step away from the writing. He has stepped away from everything except for Gunslinger. Every single issue Erica Schultz has done, he's been there for additional writing. I mean, I get it, you know, Gunslinger is his baby. But if. If you don't like his over explanation. I just read the most recent issue. It is just thick with it. Like, he's going back and re explaining lore and everything. As far as the Gunslinger goes, I'm like, you don't have to do this because you think maybe a new reader is coming on or whatnot. Like all of this stuff, you know, you don't have to keep re explaining it every like 20 issues or so. Like, this is just not. [00:56:02] Speaker C: Not even every 20. Like, every three. [00:56:05] Speaker B: All right. Although it's really bad in this issue, like, where he's just, you know, completely tying it. Well, you know, him and Erica, they're just completely tying in his, you know, complete backstory. Like they're starting the story over and it's like, we know this. You don't have to keep re explaining it. But yeah, Todd just. He can't step away from Gunslinger. He's still there. [00:56:26] Speaker A: So we do get this cool picture of Nicks that I love where she looks insane and yeah, if I may say so, David, kind of sexy. [00:56:34] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, yeah, I agree with you, Johnny. [00:56:39] Speaker A: Wow. Stamp. [00:56:40] Speaker B: Stamp it. [00:56:42] Speaker A: And Terry's like, what's going to happen? Ah, perfect timing. And then like, king like, yeah, we all know what's going to happen. [00:56:49] Speaker C: Yeah. Now, Terry, it's time you played your part. Humanity will thank you someday. And then Maimon just like, summons an ice pick in his hand. [00:56:58] Speaker A: Then we get the spawn skulls and the chapter. Chapter six. [00:57:20] Speaker C: Chapter six. Ready? [00:57:22] Speaker A: Are we all ready? [00:57:23] Speaker C: I'm ready. Bonesaw is ready. Fucking love Bonesa. [00:57:35] Speaker A: I love Bruce Campbell as the announcer in the arena. [00:57:39] Speaker C: The humans, the human spider. [00:57:40] Speaker A: That sucks. Sucks, kid. The Amazing Spider Man. Bruce Campbell. You see, he announced he's retired. He's never gonna play Ash again. [00:57:53] Speaker B: I thought he just. [00:57:54] Speaker C: I thought he just retired in general. [00:57:56] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:57:57] Speaker B: I thought they said they were making another. [00:57:59] Speaker A: They are. The new ones are good. But he's not in them. [00:58:02] Speaker B: No, no, but not. Not the Evil Deads like themselves. I thought he was doing like, a new movie. I thought something was. [00:58:06] Speaker A: Sam Raimi, he's producing maybe, but he's not athe anymore. [00:58:10] Speaker B: Okay. [00:58:11] Speaker A: I know he did some pretty bad cancer. [00:58:13] Speaker B: Yeah, he said he does have the cancer. So he's just, you know, trying to, you know, make the best of the time he has left. [00:58:18] Speaker A: But I love Bruce Campbell. [00:58:20] Speaker B: Yeah. I didn't know that he, like, said he was retired. [00:58:24] Speaker A: He's amazing. I just. I love Bruce Campbell. [00:58:28] Speaker C: Yeah. Bruce Campbell's awesome. [00:58:31] Speaker A: Who would he be in a. Spawn. You know what else is on 90s TV? David Spawn. Bond and Ally fighting a dude. [00:58:40] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:58:40] Speaker A: In this chapter, chapter six. [00:58:42] Speaker C: Yes. [00:58:42] Speaker A: Who could the dude be? [00:58:44] Speaker C: I don't know, Johnny. But he's. He's a. It's a buff. That's a buff. Plague Spawn. [00:58:48] Speaker A: He's happy too. Uh huh. [00:58:50] Speaker C: It's been months and months since Spawn first laid eyes on the hell Spawn called Plague. [00:58:56] Speaker A: In my writing time. Yeah. Actual time, it's been like months and months. I think he met Plague spawn in like 300. [00:59:05] Speaker C: Yeah. Or 300101 on Omega Island. [00:59:11] Speaker A: He was definitely part of the mega island election. [00:59:14] Speaker B: Yeah. Where they met. [00:59:17] Speaker A: Six years, sir. [00:59:19] Speaker B: But the. That's what irritates me about the start of this chapter. He says, you know, it's been months and months since Bond first laid eyes on the hellspawn called Plague. In all that time, no one has ever heard it utter a single intelligible syllable. Like, you know, just setting us up, you know, for this chapter. So when. When Plague Spawn says, we're like, what? [00:59:39] Speaker A: Yeah. How did that happen? But hasn't he, like, said like. Yeah, I swear to God he said something. [00:59:47] Speaker C: He. He said. He said. He said some words, but not like, yeah. Oh, Al Simmons. [00:59:54] Speaker B: Hey, Al, how's it going? [00:59:56] Speaker A: And I was just like. So he threatened him. He's like, basically the last. In the last issue, he was like, I'm Terry. [01:00:02] Speaker C: Yeah. Without saying I'm Terry. [01:00:04] Speaker A: He's like, you better pray Terry's unharmed. Where is he? What'd you do to him? And then he comes in all smiling. [01:00:11] Speaker C: You have it all wrong, Al. The question isn't what I've done to Terry, it's what has Terry done to me? [01:00:20] Speaker B: Yeah. But like, the whole time before that, you know, leading up to the reveal, that's Terry inside. Spawn isn't questioning anything about Plague. Like, he's not saying, oh, he's moving differently, or. Yeah, he's acting different. [01:00:31] Speaker A: Like an idiot. [01:00:32] Speaker C: He's not. Yeah. The Spawn I know would totally be like, why the. Did you take. Why is Terry. Terry. Get out of there. [01:00:39] Speaker A: Would have figured it out. [01:00:41] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:00:42] Speaker A: He's talking about. Terry's like, oh, God damn it, they got Terry. [01:00:45] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:00:46] Speaker A: Or he would have, like, been like, hold on a second. Try to call Terry. Terry. Answer. He's like, all right. [01:00:52] Speaker C: I've been trying to call him for 10 minutes. [01:00:54] Speaker A: Right. I was. But, like, yes, exactly. Like, Al Simmons is smarter than this. [01:00:59] Speaker B: Yeah. He could have spun this a little bit differently at the beginning because. Yeah. It just makes Spawn look stupid. [01:01:04] Speaker A: Like, yeah, but, like, Todd loves, like, a bad guy who's like, I know everything, and I'm gonna beat you up. Like, he loves that, like, kind of trope, you know, he loves, like, the bad guy who's like, yes, I've. Yes. And. Oh, you thought of that? Well, I thought of this. And, like. Like, just, like, explains how they know more than the hero and then beats him up for a while, and the hero's like, no, you did it. And, like, gets him at the end. Yeah, that's fine. But he does that. He does that trope a lot. [01:01:30] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. [01:01:31] Speaker B: But they. [01:01:31] Speaker A: They tough bad guy. [01:01:34] Speaker B: But they could have done it to where it was like, you know. You know, Placebon says something, and Al's like, you know, nobody has said that to me in, like, 30 years. You know, And I didn't let him get away with it then, you know, it was Terry, you know, some kind of different reveal than what we got. [01:01:49] Speaker A: The emotional moment of, like, Terry, I never wanted to be a part. You have super power. [01:01:53] Speaker B: Is. [01:01:53] Speaker A: You're like a demon now. [01:01:55] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:01:55] Speaker A: Like, this should break Al's heart. [01:01:57] Speaker C: It should. Absolutely. [01:01:59] Speaker A: This could be such an emotion. Can you imagine that? Like, the hands of a deaf writer was like, this is an emotional moment where he's like, al Simmons is so sad. He's like, oh, no, Terry. I brought Terry into this. Like, that's. That's the thing that, like, that's the whole crux of the issue they haven't. Holding back is like, I don't like that Terry has superpowers or has been touched by hell. [01:02:19] Speaker B: No. [01:02:20] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:02:21] Speaker A: Because that ruins. Mark, if we can zoom in on your back. Right shoulder. It ruins that little action figure that Terry Fitzgerald you got. [01:02:28] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Hanging right there. [01:02:28] Speaker A: It's like, I love about Terry's. He's the normal guy, and I don't. It's that cheap thing they do. And, like, again, marvel. Like, Jimmy Olsen. Everyone gets superpowers. Or in D.C. whatever. Like, at some point, they all do. [01:02:39] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:02:40] Speaker A: But, like, they felt. Sure. It was, like, the pure thing of, like, when he said, wanda's never gonna come back alive. And she kind of did there. She's, like, around. [01:02:48] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:02:48] Speaker A: And, like. But, like, I always felt this. I think, like, Terry's not gonna get superpowers. Is that A joyous moment. It's kind of a. It's not a moment I liked as a Spawn fan, honestly, is, if I can just say as a base level, now that we're talking about textual, like, Terry is in this suit. I did not enjoy it. I did not like. [01:03:08] Speaker B: Yeah, but do. So do you know. Did you pick up on the plot point as to why Terry was able to bond with the plague? [01:03:16] Speaker C: Because. Because he. He was exposed to hell spawn, but he was never a hell spawn. [01:03:22] Speaker B: Right, but do you know what that exposure was? Do you remember? [01:03:27] Speaker A: But I don't remember. Let's get to it. Okay. [01:03:29] Speaker C: I don't think. I don't think I read. I don't think I read. [01:03:32] Speaker A: He's like, you don't know who I am, Al. [01:03:34] Speaker C: Haha. [01:03:34] Speaker A: I'm so powerful. [01:03:36] Speaker B: But they don't tell you in here why Terry has been touched by the hell spawn? [01:03:43] Speaker A: Yeah, they have the reference to 50. Where's that little hall bag? [01:03:46] Speaker B: Oh, no, no, that's not where it's from the. Okay, so Terry has Spawn's necroplasm in him because just like what he did to Bobby back when Terry had gotten shot and he had the cancer, Spawn went into the hospital and saved him. He went in there and touched him and cured him. [01:04:08] Speaker C: Okay. I think I vaguely remember that. [01:04:11] Speaker B: Yeah. That's why. That's how Terry is, you know, touched by the hell spawn. That's where that comes from. [01:04:15] Speaker C: Touched by a health spot. [01:04:17] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. You know, touched by an angel, touched by a health spawn. You know, they have to have their own spin off, but that's where that's where that comes from. So Terry has, you know, the hell spawn. Like, that's kind of cool, the symbiote in him. So, yeah, that. That part, you know, that's why I said that I, like, I did like, this part of, like, the end of the arc as to how, you know, they made it to where Flag spawn could bond with somebody. He couldn't do it. He couldn't do it with a hell spawn because they have their own symbiote. So Terry was like the middle ground. And, you know, since Bobby has not resurfaced in, you know, 300 some issues, Terry was the next. Like, we came. [01:04:59] Speaker C: Oh, Bobby. [01:05:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:05:00] Speaker A: I miss getting ahead of ourselves a little bit. If we're going by issue order, what were you gonna say about Bobby? [01:05:07] Speaker B: Oh, no, just like, Bobby, like, we haven't seen him since, like, issue 38. [01:05:11] Speaker A: Yeah. When he wandered off. [01:05:13] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. And that's what. No, that's what I keep saying. [01:05:15] Speaker A: Like, bring back Bobby. [01:05:17] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:05:17] Speaker B: Like, if. If I get. Like. And I've said this, I think, Thomas Healy. But, you know, they have said. TMP has said, you know, if you offer them a suggestion, they can't use it in the books or whatever. So I haven't said any of them out loud, but I have, like, eight different ways they could put Bobby back into the story. Like, right now, it'd be very easy to. To write him back into the story, because, I mean, Bobby and Bootsy were a big part of Spawn's life, you know, when he was in the alley. And, Yeah, I realized the story has moved way beyond the alley, but Bobby was a big part of that. And, you know, he was there kind of helping Spawn, you know, get on his feet and figuring out how to navigate the alley. [01:05:56] Speaker A: And that's the thing about reading 300. What? We're on three. What'd you say? Three. [01:05:59] Speaker C: We're on 376. [01:06:02] Speaker B: Getting ready to come out. Yeah. [01:06:03] Speaker A: You're reading all that. There are these moments in these time periods that stick with you and that. Like this first 40 to 50 with Bobby and all that sticks with me. [01:06:11] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:06:12] Speaker A: There's parts in between, like, when they're coming up in 100, and, like, there's parts. But, like, that always is, like, that foundational lore. Like, you need to mind that. And, like, some of these. That's just great. When you see these other authors that Todd McFarland brings in, and they're so good at, like, Erica Schultz is so good at mining Spawn lore for good stuff. And John Layman just, like, seeing how good they are at, like, bringing back those little things dangling that. [01:06:38] Speaker B: But that's one thing that I have a problem with is, like, sometimes, you know, they bring on new writers or they'll introduce these new characters, like Lyra, you know, she was introduced, which I thought was end up going to be, you know, Spawn and Angela's love child, but they totally wanted Gunslinger. No, Lyra was in Kingspawn. The redhead. [01:07:00] Speaker A: Yeah, that. That was it. Was that the top McFarlane run on Kingspawn? [01:07:04] Speaker B: Yes. [01:07:05] Speaker A: He loves introducing new characters. [01:07:07] Speaker B: Yeah. So, you know, they've introduced Lyra, they've introduced in Gunslinger. They've also had Focus, which we've only seen one other time. [01:07:14] Speaker C: Who's supposed to have his own comic book. [01:07:17] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:07:17] Speaker B: When. You know, whenever. [01:07:18] Speaker A: But when he. You mean when he. And then we also supposed to have Taylor's backstory where he got free. [01:07:25] Speaker B: That so pissed me off by the. [01:07:27] Speaker A: The poacher. I want the Taylor. [01:07:30] Speaker B: Po. [01:07:31] Speaker A: Taylor and Poacher. Like, can they announce that? [01:07:33] Speaker B: But I was. I was waiting so long because, you know, we all knew that Taylor was going to get powers. [01:07:38] Speaker A: That was so chees. That was such a cheese dick. Way good. [01:07:41] Speaker B: But so, you know, but, you know, they send him off, you know, and it's like, okay, he's gone. He's coming into his own. He's gonna get his powers or, you know, figure things out and maybe we'll have a couple, you know, books in here that show him. And then all of a sudden, we get this big event where they're fighting this giant monster, the Nicks, and he just shows up. [01:07:58] Speaker A: By the way, I'm a superhero now. [01:07:59] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:08:01] Speaker C: Okay. [01:08:01] Speaker A: You have a guns. You had Javi in the storyline with, like, Linda and everybody. Yeah. Perilous situation is of a lot. Last moment of an issue, Taylor comes in as a superhero and saves him. [01:08:11] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:08:12] Speaker A: The next issue is his backstory. Like a single, like kind of a pill, like a. A box issue. That probably would have been a great issue. [01:08:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:08:20] Speaker A: But so he. It was Poacher. It was involved. Taylor's origin as a superhero involves him freeing a giant elephant from some kind of jail. That's canon, David. He's like, thanks for freeing me, Taylor. We'll tell that story another time. Yeah, something like that, right? [01:08:40] Speaker C: Yeah. He says. I think he says that's a story for another day. [01:08:45] Speaker B: But he's just, you know, he just tamed. [01:08:47] Speaker A: Why tie him to an action figure from the 2000s. [01:08:50] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:08:50] Speaker C: I don't know. I don't know. [01:08:53] Speaker A: And that's what pissed me off about that road of Gunslinger up until another event. And like, they had something going with Gunslinger. Like he's in dusty motels with Linda. Like, he had the whole Linda thing that Tom McFarland invented himself. [01:09:06] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:09:06] Speaker A: And they completely evand. [01:09:08] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. And then he. [01:09:10] Speaker A: And then he does the, like, where's justice for Linda? And y. And like, all his side characters. [01:09:15] Speaker C: And he's got the. The heaven version of he man and Battle Cat. [01:09:20] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:09:21] Speaker B: I mean, I don't. I don't know if you. If you've read them yet, but Todd does tie up the Linda story. Excuse me. [01:09:28] Speaker A: He does. I haven't gotten there. We haven't gotten there. [01:09:30] Speaker B: I. I'm. I'm not going to spoil it for you, but Todd does tie up some loose ends before he goes on to be just an additional writer on Gunslinger. He's okay. There is. You do get some closure. [01:09:43] Speaker A: I just felt like he had some momentum going with the L thing because, like, the first 12 issues were, like, an explosion of, like, he had the Dakota arc. You had the kind of grounding arc. And, like, those were fun, and I can accept those, like, being cut off, like, gone beyond. [01:10:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:10:00] Speaker A: But, like, once he introduced Linda and then he just abandoned her, I was [01:10:03] Speaker C: like, yeah, that sucks. That sucks a lot. [01:10:08] Speaker A: It was just weird. [01:10:09] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, she was a big part of it. But just, like, on a side note, though, so, you know, Erica has taken over the writing. Yeah, I. I haven't gone back and looked, but I'm 95% sure that back in the early days, Dakota was a thick girl. Well, apparently, she's been hitting the gym while she was gone, because she is cut now. [01:10:29] Speaker C: I don't. [01:10:30] Speaker B: I don't. [01:10:30] Speaker C: I think Dakota's always been. [01:10:32] Speaker A: She's always been pretty good. [01:10:33] Speaker C: She's always been pretty svelte. It's that. It's that. It's that. That Brett Booth lankiness. She is lanky as a. I. I [01:10:42] Speaker B: thought she was kind of, like, nice. I like Dakota, but. I don't know. I just don't remember looking that cut. Maybe it's just. I haven't seen her in a while. I'll have to go back and look now. [01:10:53] Speaker A: I mean, maybe she was raised with dinosaurs, with books. Remember how confusing that was? [01:10:59] Speaker C: She goes back to the past, hangs out with dinosaurs, and finds books about dinosaurs. [01:11:05] Speaker A: Or she wrote all books about dinosaurs. You couldn't figure out what it was trying to imply. [01:11:10] Speaker B: Yeah, well, I. Unfortunately. Unfortunately, Dakota's back, and so are the dinosaurs. [01:11:14] Speaker A: So I'm not. Maybe that's not unfortunate. That's your least favorite part of gunslinger, right? [01:11:20] Speaker C: Could it. Could it be. Could it be the difference between Brett Booth and Carlo Barberry? [01:11:26] Speaker A: When Mark and I met at Smoke on, we were talking for, like, 45 minutes, and then he was like, I woke up. I still get the dinosaurs. I was like, I love them. [01:11:35] Speaker C: I love the dinosaurs. [01:11:37] Speaker B: It's. They just seem like. I mean, I get it. It's a comic book. It's all fake. It's all fiction. But I mean, to throw dinosaurs, and I'm like, come on. One that just. That. That kind of takes me out of it. [01:11:48] Speaker C: That happens. Yeah, it happens. [01:11:50] Speaker B: Yeah. That's my. [01:11:51] Speaker A: Out of it is when there's an alley, it brings me back into it. [01:11:55] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:11:55] Speaker A: Because we have a pretty generic time to front. Alley fight. Like, Swan breaks off a pipe. He's beaten Spawn to death. [01:12:02] Speaker C: Plague Spawn does say, I've seen This trick of yours a hundred times, which is not. Not even like, the third time that somebody has said that to Spawn. The. This last year. [01:12:12] Speaker A: Like Mark said earlier. I can't believe that Al Simmons wouldn't have figured this out. Yeah, but. Oh, Blake Swan took over. Terry. I need to get the out of here and regroup and call. [01:12:22] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:12:23] Speaker A: Like, there's no way. Alison, Al Simmons is a smart. He's a badass. [01:12:27] Speaker C: But. But. But Spawn tries to show his smarts as after Jessica Priest blows Plague Spawn's head off and says, no, don't hurt him. He just wants you to. To. To hurt him so he'll regenerate. And it's like, what could this. What could this regenerating do? [01:12:44] Speaker A: Hero moment. [01:12:44] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. Yeah. [01:12:45] Speaker A: This was a decent issue of. Of Scorches. In this moment. Kachun. [01:12:53] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:12:53] Speaker A: Jessica Priest head shots him. [01:12:56] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:12:56] Speaker A: With a badass gun. You just. I felt. I. I don't know. I felt that shot. It was a good. It's a good. Like. [01:13:01] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:13:03] Speaker A: Like, she's. [01:13:04] Speaker C: It's after. After Plague stabs. Stabs Spawn with the pipe, she just says, back the away now. And she's just like, huh. With the big gun. That doesn't make any sense. [01:13:15] Speaker A: It's so cool how that bottom right panel, like, right after she shoots him, when she comes. She comes on. [01:13:22] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:13:23] Speaker A: Face it looks like. It looks like it's in motion. Like, it's like an anime. [01:13:26] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:13:27] Speaker A: When. After she shoots him, like, it's so cool. I love Jessica Priest. [01:13:31] Speaker C: For a moment, she wonders how he knows her name. Then the moment, like, bam. [01:13:39] Speaker A: Like, honestly, in this situation, not a bad strategy. [01:13:43] Speaker C: No. [01:13:43] Speaker A: Shoot it in the head. [01:13:44] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:13:44] Speaker A: Get, like, at least a minute to figure it out if it regenerates. Like, but let's de. Escalate. [01:13:50] Speaker B: But. But where. Where does Spawn get this nugget of knowledge that, you know, he says, no, don't injure it. He just wants to regenerate itself. I know. Where does that come from? [01:14:01] Speaker A: Made up. Yeah, that's exactly what I thought. [01:14:04] Speaker B: Like, nowhere. Yeah. Nowhere was that pointed out whatsoever. [01:14:09] Speaker A: If you want to set that up for the finale of this issue when she walks in and shoots him to head like a badass. You have to set up a moment earlier where someone does that to him, and they're like, oh, you just made him more powerful. Powerful, you fool. Like, you have to set it up earlier. [01:14:24] Speaker C: Yeah. Like. Like, maybe he's like a nerd being [01:14:27] Speaker A: like, oh, no, he can re. He can regenerate. It's like a Bad dm. [01:14:30] Speaker C: Yeah. And it's. And it's like when. When Plague first confronts Spawn in the alley. Like, some. Some thug. Some thug sees them, and it's like. And then Plague goes, ah, you shouldn't have done that. I need the. I need regenerates. [01:14:47] Speaker A: Oh, that makes it more powerful. And, like, she does that. And that's a cool gut moment of like. [01:14:52] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:14:54] Speaker A: Like, so I'm just like, oh, no, don't shoot him in the head. That makes him more powerful. [01:14:59] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:14:59] Speaker B: But then it goes on. [01:15:01] Speaker A: It's like, you kill the boss. And it's like, you just helped me. And they have to fight him again. [01:15:07] Speaker B: But Jessica says, you know, don't worry. He's dead. And then Spawn says, no, it wants you to believe it's dead. Where's. [01:15:13] Speaker C: Like, where does that come from? [01:15:15] Speaker A: None of that has been a plague spawn expert. [01:15:18] Speaker B: Yeah, like, all. Yeah. All of a sudden, he's, like, the expert. He's this. The plague spawn whisperer. He knows everything. And I'm like. [01:15:24] Speaker A: The thing is, like, I feel like when Tom McFarland's in control of Al Simmons, he really gets lost. [01:15:30] Speaker C: Yeah, he does. [01:15:31] Speaker B: It's like, I. I think he has a voice. He has so much going on in his head that he. Either, you know, he's thinking this, but he doesn't explain it. He just, you know, gets it down on paper, and we're. [01:15:43] Speaker A: He over explains the wrong things. [01:15:45] Speaker B: Oh, no, he. He is definitely the king of over explaining. [01:15:49] Speaker A: But, like, Al Simmons, like, is a very. Like, in some de. Hands, he can be very complex, and, like, he's smart and, like. [01:15:59] Speaker C: Yeah, he's. Well, he. [01:16:00] Speaker A: I feel like in this to far, he's so ragey. [01:16:03] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:16:03] Speaker A: Tom Friction. He's so ragey. And, like, he's so. I feel like he never learned anything. [01:16:11] Speaker C: So. [01:16:12] Speaker A: Yeah, Other writers, like, even the early King Swan with Sean King and like, other writers, right. Todd. The right. Al Simmons, he can be very smart and, like, calculated. [01:16:24] Speaker C: Yeah, he's Al Simmons. Al Simmons is. Is. Is, like. He's tactically smart. He's shrewd. He under. He understands what's happening. But when Todd McFarlane writes him, he tries to make him, like, an intellectual little weenie. [01:16:38] Speaker A: Arrogant. [01:16:39] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. [01:16:41] Speaker B: But in this one, he's just. He's very. In this chapter, he's just very, like, blank or plain. Like, there's. [01:16:48] Speaker A: He doesn't seem like himself. [01:16:50] Speaker B: No. [01:16:50] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:16:52] Speaker B: He's, like, just, like, on autopilot. Like, there's no soul to him in this. [01:16:58] Speaker A: There should be no Question that Al Simmons would figure out if he took over Terry. [01:17:03] Speaker B: Yeah. 100%. Yeah. [01:17:06] Speaker A: It's weird that he doesn't. [01:17:09] Speaker C: Although it is. This regeneration of Plague Spawn's head is actually pretty cool. [01:17:13] Speaker A: It's pretty cool. [01:17:14] Speaker C: It's some of the best. It's some of the best narration, too. A sickening gurgling sound is all that escapes the wounded monster. [01:17:24] Speaker A: Very cool. [01:17:25] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:17:26] Speaker A: Like, rushes them. So Justin starts unloading on him. [01:17:28] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:17:29] Speaker A: He does the. He does the hug spike. What is that on? Is that on another piece of media? Yes. [01:17:37] Speaker B: Well, it's. It's in. I mean, kind of. I was just thinking of the movie when the Violator goes to bite Spawn's head off. Yes. [01:17:45] Speaker A: It's like that. Yes. [01:17:46] Speaker B: Shoots the spikes out. [01:17:47] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [01:17:48] Speaker B: Into his mouth. And then cuts his head off with his chains. [01:17:51] Speaker A: Kind of like that. [01:17:52] Speaker B: Yeah, in a way it is. [01:17:53] Speaker A: That's a cool part of the movie. [01:17:55] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:17:57] Speaker B: Yeah. When Kag yelling him. Concentrate. [01:18:01] Speaker A: I'm not Obi Wan Kenobi. [01:18:03] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:18:04] Speaker C: And then we get that. Then we get the Jess. [01:18:07] Speaker A: Which is weird that he's never called her Jazz. [01:18:11] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. [01:18:12] Speaker A: Very weird. [01:18:13] Speaker B: Wait, actually, doesn't the Plague. When the Plague Spawn is looking like Spawn up on the rooftop when he goes to talk Justin, doesn't he. [01:18:22] Speaker C: Oh, oh, but that's. That's in the same. [01:18:25] Speaker B: Right? No, but what I'm saying is. [01:18:27] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:18:27] Speaker B: Pawn has never done this. [01:18:28] Speaker C: He does. [01:18:28] Speaker B: So why would he have. Why would Todd have. You know, Al say it here, when the Plague Spawn called her Jess. [01:18:36] Speaker C: Who knows? Who knows? [01:18:38] Speaker B: I think he just forgets. [01:18:39] Speaker C: Todd McFarlane knows. He knows the answer to that. [01:18:42] Speaker B: That. [01:18:44] Speaker C: And then. And then plagues like Simmons. Give me that bit of soul that I asked for. You give me. You give me. You give me the soul, and I'll make sure that Terry's family is okay. And by that, he means. By that, I mean my family. And then there's the reveal. [01:19:02] Speaker A: That's what sucks. It's like Spawn would have figured it out. [01:19:05] Speaker C: He would have figured it out. Terry, fight back. Don't give in. [01:19:09] Speaker B: Yeah, well, we get none of that. [01:19:11] Speaker A: But I will say with the shoulder showing, Siri's kind of sexy. [01:19:14] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. It's a. It's a good look for him. He's got. He's got trapezes. Yeah, trapezes for days. [01:19:22] Speaker A: He's looking good. [01:19:24] Speaker C: And Spawn says, I'll kill you. I'll kill you, Mammon. [01:19:28] Speaker A: We have a Mammon speech where he's like. He's telling you the truth. [01:19:32] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:19:32] Speaker A: Your friend is. Terry's dead. Like your wife. [01:19:36] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:19:39] Speaker A: He's so mad, it'll kill you. Then Zach, he gets zached by Mammon's hand powers. [01:19:48] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:19:48] Speaker A: He's like, look, kill him. [01:19:51] Speaker C: And then he. He's. He's. He's putting together his whole plan, and he's like, I need to be able to. Need to be able to control Plague so that way God doesn't destroy. Destroy hell and Earth. And then the explanation of one has [01:20:03] Speaker A: been touched, which Mark explained in issue 50, where he saved him. I mean, then he just touches it. But then Spawn does the ET Moment. [01:20:12] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:20:13] Speaker A: See plants in him. My goodness. I don't know. [01:20:16] Speaker C: But he gives. He gives a little bit of. He gives a little bit of his soul over to Plague. And the mammoth's like, okay, good. Thanks. We won't hurt Terry's family heroes, though. They're on the table for good. We're going to. [01:20:27] Speaker A: Jessica wakes up, says what happened? [01:20:32] Speaker C: Because she wakes up because Spawn is necroplasmically healing her. And then we get the opening reading. Everything happened and everything has changed forever. Forever. [01:20:46] Speaker A: I like that ending. [01:20:48] Speaker C: I like how. I'm pretty sure that basically right after this, all. All of that just kind of goes in the garbage. Because then they do the. The writer refreshes and it jumps forward. It's like. But it didn't change forever. It changed for, like, a week. [01:21:01] Speaker B: Yeah, that's. That's what I was going to point out that, you know, all this is for not since Rosenberg taking over. But also, if you think about it, Wanda's gone and Terry's gone, so that leaves just Cyan and her two younger siblings. So now they have no parents. You know what? [01:21:15] Speaker C: Yeah, but I guess. I guess so. I guess what? Cyan. Cyan's gonna have to drop out of college to take care of her younger brothers? Is that what's gonna happen? [01:21:24] Speaker A: I don't know. [01:21:25] Speaker C: Are they all gonna have to go live with Granny? [01:21:28] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [01:21:29] Speaker C: I mean, Granny Blake. [01:21:30] Speaker A: Okay. I mentioned it earlier. We talked a little bit earlier, but, like, my. We're done with this. We did it. We finished the issue. [01:21:37] Speaker B: Yes. [01:21:37] Speaker C: The Need More Sponge Universe, Johnny. [01:21:39] Speaker A: Yes. [01:21:40] Speaker C: Okay. And then we got hockey guys. And that is. [01:21:43] Speaker A: That is anything. Same with the hockey toy ad, Mark. [01:21:49] Speaker B: I, I've. I, I. All I can say as far as hockey goes, is I went to one hockey game, and to me, it is. It's not. They're not actually playing hockey. There's, like, a little bit of hockey between all the fights is really because, like, there was a. [01:22:04] Speaker A: If there was a Spawn hockey team, I would go watch it. [01:22:07] Speaker B: Well, there was back in the day, but. Yeah, not anymore. [01:22:09] Speaker A: Was there, like. I know it was Little League. [01:22:12] Speaker B: Todd sponsored a hockey team. Was Spons. Like, get on another one. [01:22:18] Speaker A: I would go see that. The New Swans. [01:22:21] Speaker B: Yeah. I can't remember what the team was that he sponsored, but it was like they had the Spawn logo on their jerseys. Like, you can buy the jerseys online. [01:22:26] Speaker A: Like, I think it was the. [01:22:28] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [01:22:29] Speaker A: That's why we've talked about this on the podcast before, David. [01:22:32] Speaker C: Yeah. Or was it. [01:22:37] Speaker B: I have an official license. [01:22:38] Speaker C: The Redford Whites. [01:22:40] Speaker A: What? [01:22:41] Speaker C: The Redford Mites. Oh, no, that's the junior hockey team. [01:22:46] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't know. I don't think it was a pro team. It was like some kids teams. [01:22:49] Speaker C: All right, so. Because there's a picture here. The Redford Mites with their winning trophy. A Spawn themed Michigan junior hockey team sponsored by Todd McFarland, 1995. [01:22:58] Speaker A: That's so awesome. But there was the. If there was, like, the Minneapolis Spawns, I would follow them. [01:23:06] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. But I've only seen one hockey. [01:23:10] Speaker A: Well, we've come to the end of the issue because I want to go on my rant about what I would do with the plot of this issue. David, you have some beautiful puppies that we've seen. [01:23:21] Speaker C: Yeah, we get a couple. [01:23:23] Speaker B: A couple. [01:23:23] Speaker A: I think it might be time to. [01:23:25] Speaker C: It might. Well, Johnny, I think these puppies need to be raided. I think it's time to raid some puppies. What? [01:23:30] Speaker A: What did you say? [01:23:30] Speaker C: I think it's time to rate the puppies. [01:23:32] Speaker A: It's time to rate the puppies. So only up we had score. 50. [01:23:41] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:23:42] Speaker A: Is like out of the 50. So this. If this is a Return of the Jedi of the 50s already established. [01:23:50] Speaker C: It is. [01:23:50] Speaker A: There's Ewoks. [01:23:51] Speaker C: It's the best one because it's the newest. Yes, go ahead. [01:23:54] Speaker A: I did like it the most when I was a kid. You're right. There was a few years I liked the most, and then I was in Vampire. You're right. Like, because weirdly was the one we didn't own. So we had taped most of the New Hope off TV and we had a tape of Empire. We didn't own Return of the Jedi, so it was like my favorite because we had to rent it. [01:24:16] Speaker C: Nice. [01:24:17] Speaker A: I remember we rented it one time. My brother watched like six times over a weekend. [01:24:21] Speaker C: Nice. [01:24:22] Speaker A: So if this is indeed Return of the Jedi, the question I want to ask is, what do you feel about the sacred space of Terry being a human, getting drawn to this cosmic game. And that's the thing that, like, as big duplications, I feel like it was done a little sloppily and like, I understand, but it's not evidently mentioned in the next few comics at all. And it's just. It's kind of disappointing to see because I like having that human touch of like. And I know comics do that. Like, Jimmy Olsen's probably been like seven superheroes at this point, and so is fucking April. Neil's been probably a fucking Ninja Turtle. I don't even know. But it feels cheap and I'm not a fan of it this late in the game. Why revert to that? To try to gain people interests. [01:25:15] Speaker C: If, If I may, Johnny. April o' Neil had a daughter with Casey Jones and then becomes the sensei after Shredder died or after fucking Splinter. Splinter dies. So, yeah, she is. She is a hero. [01:25:34] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:25:35] Speaker C: Yeah, it's from Last Ronin. It's good as hell. Have you read the Last Ronin Mark? Are you a Turtles guy? [01:25:42] Speaker B: The only Turtles that I was really into was I watched, you know, the, Obviously the cartoon as a kid. [01:25:47] Speaker A: Yeah, the first movie is a badass movie. [01:25:51] Speaker B: It's a bad that that movie was like. Yeah. Ahead of his time. [01:25:55] Speaker A: Oh, it is. It's like, I don't think Spawn would have been made if it wasn't. [01:25:59] Speaker C: Yeah, probably not. [01:26:02] Speaker A: Just here's some DNA. [01:26:04] Speaker B: Yeah, the. The Spawn opened the doors for like so many, you know, other movies to be made. I mean, it. Spawn is good in its own right. It's not the best. [01:26:13] Speaker A: They're also the same studio, New Line Cinema. [01:26:16] Speaker C: True. [01:26:17] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, true. [01:26:18] Speaker A: They're the ones that took the gamble on Lord of the Rings. [01:26:21] Speaker B: But see, then, you know, the. The first Turtles movie was great. The second one was okay. The third one, Swinging a Miss. [01:26:28] Speaker A: David loves. [01:26:30] Speaker C: I love the so much. [01:26:32] Speaker B: You do love the third one. Ironically or seriously? [01:26:36] Speaker C: No, seriously. I seriously love the third one. [01:26:40] Speaker A: I think he's crazy and make fun of him for it. [01:26:42] Speaker C: I actually have a friend who picked up DVDs of Turtles 1, 2 and 3 for five bucks each at Vintage Stock in Tulsa earlier this week. Johnny. [01:26:51] Speaker B: Well, I mean, every movie out there has to have a fan. David is the fan. You know, the Turtles three, he's two [01:26:57] Speaker A: has a decent plot. [01:27:00] Speaker C: Go, ninja, Go, ninja, go. Go, Ninja, Go, ninja, go. [01:27:04] Speaker A: But I like, I like the Doctor. I like. David Warner is the. The ign. [01:27:08] Speaker C: I, I that they. That they. They did that weird thing that the early 90s did, where it's like, people. People don't want to see what was actually in the thing. We have to make something kind of like it. So instead of having Bebop and Rocksteady, they got. [01:27:21] Speaker B: That's what makes me mad. [01:27:22] Speaker A: That was rights disputes with the owners. [01:27:25] Speaker C: Ah. [01:27:25] Speaker A: Because they. The studio had the rights to the sequel, and they were like, we want to make it way less violent, way less dark. Like, okay, well, you don't have rights to be Bach from Rocksteady, so they didn't give him the right to him. And so they made up Token Razor. [01:27:40] Speaker B: Yeah, well, and that's. I mean, also how we got Jessica Priest and spawned was because Chapel, you know, originally killed him, kills him in the comics, and then obviously that's, you know, owned by Rob Liefeld, and they couldn't work out a deal, like, licensing wise to be able to have Chapel in the movie, so they invented Jessica Free. [01:27:57] Speaker C: Worked out for the best. [01:27:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Honestly. I mean, it did, man. That's where, you know, where she came from. But, yeah, beyond. [01:28:04] Speaker A: That's why I'm such as Jessica Priest fans. I love the movie, but she. Go ahead. [01:28:11] Speaker B: I would say, like, so beyond the third Turtles movie, you know, from back in the 90s, I have not gone into any of the new stuff. [01:28:18] Speaker C: Well, if. If all, you know, is just like the Saturday morning cartoon that's kind of just like, imagine nothing happened. But in the 30 years since. And that's where the. The last Ronin picks up. [01:28:30] Speaker A: And it's awesome. [01:28:31] Speaker C: It's kind of. It's kind of like the. The Kevin Smith Masters of the Universe, the first season that he did where it's like, you know, you've got this. This fun sort of episodic show, and then we give it a definitive ending kind of thing. It's fun. Last Ronin's awesome. [01:28:50] Speaker B: Okay. [01:28:51] Speaker C: Because. Because you don't know which turtle is the last Ronin until, you know, like, halfway through the series. And then you're like, holy shit, that's who it is. It's good. I know. I know who it is. It's. It's not. It's not who you would expect. [01:29:07] Speaker B: Oh, and I. I also played the, you know, the. The TMNT video game that was on. [01:29:11] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. [01:29:12] Speaker B: And would always get pissed off at the damn level, you know, oh, my God. And not touch the. The grass and everything and try to get it like, oh, that was that level. [01:29:22] Speaker A: They made it. That was not based around that level. [01:29:24] Speaker B: That. That was not as bad, though. That was not as bad, though, as the battletoads level where you have to do the jump. Oh, yeah. [01:29:33] Speaker A: Oh, no, I couldn't. [01:29:34] Speaker C: I, I, I, I couldn't make it more than like, 45 seconds in Battletoads. I was terrible at it. [01:29:39] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. I was. [01:29:40] Speaker B: I was terrible at that speed bike level because those little walls, you had to figure out which top or bottom of the screen you need to be on. [01:29:46] Speaker A: It's so disappointing because the first level is so fun. We have. Oh, yeah, guys. Yeah. Like the robot. And the second level is, like, impossible. [01:29:54] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I'm sure a lot of people raged on that level. It was just crazy. [01:29:58] Speaker A: I did love Battletoads and Battle Maniacs sequel for snes. And it was the one time my brother. So there's one level. It's the second level. It's like in the first game where you're falling down a straight. You have to go side to side. [01:30:12] Speaker B: Yep. I remember that my brother and I [01:30:14] Speaker A: had the special controllers we got for Christmas. We could turn on turbo or slow down. And basically it paused. It was basically, you turn on switch, it would be pause on pause, pause on pause, pause and pause. So we did it that way. [01:30:29] Speaker C: You're right. [01:30:29] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:30:30] Speaker A: I mean, that game was great. Battle Battle Maniacs. I mean, those games were really fun. I love Rare. It's a great studio. I think they're dead because the Xbox has no money. And the last game Rare made was probably. I don't remember what. [01:30:46] Speaker B: Has there been something since Banjo and Kazooie? [01:30:47] Speaker A: Oh, they made a bunch of new games. Yeah. Rare Studios. David was the last game they made. [01:30:52] Speaker C: I'm looking. [01:30:54] Speaker A: Go, David. You're my man of the chair. You're my Terry Fitzgerald. Don't turn into Head Plug Swan. [01:31:02] Speaker C: It looks like they did all right. They did a. A remaster of battletoads in the 2020. That was the last game, but yeah, [01:31:13] Speaker A: Thieves, which makes a bunch of money. [01:31:15] Speaker C: See if Sea of Thieves was the one before that. [01:31:20] Speaker A: It's so active on, like, people love it. I love Rare. Battletoads was crazy. [01:31:26] Speaker B: Their best game, though, was Conquer's Bed for a Day. [01:31:29] Speaker A: Oh, my God. [01:31:30] Speaker B: I love that. [01:31:31] Speaker A: Hilarious. [01:31:32] Speaker B: Oh, I love that game. That game sells. [01:31:35] Speaker A: Their best game. My Rare's best game is Perfect Dark is the best top five video game of all time. [01:31:42] Speaker B: I've, I've heard of it. I do remember that, but I have not played it. [01:31:44] Speaker A: It was a sequel. It was the spiritual sequel, a Goldeneye. [01:31:47] Speaker B: Oh, really? Okay. [01:31:49] Speaker A: It was a shooter. N64 that started a hot brunette. [01:31:53] Speaker B: Goldeneye is like, hands down the best game, like, ever made. I love that. [01:31:56] Speaker A: That's rare. [01:31:58] Speaker B: Yes. Rare made. Golden Eye. Yeah. [01:32:01] Speaker A: That game. Oh, my God. The game was a revolution. When I played. It was like, you can go in the bathroom. Like, it was so crazy to, like, walk around. Like, that was so cool. [01:32:09] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [01:32:10] Speaker C: I remember I had some friends who were playing Perfect Dark, but they. They just rented it and so they had to. They had to like, surreptitiously mark the cartridge. So that way when they went to go rent it again, they could buy the same one because it would save to the cartridge. Yeah. [01:32:25] Speaker A: So what do we think about this issue? We're rating the. This technically we're in the rating the puppies part. We haven't anything. [01:32:31] Speaker C: No, we haven't. [01:32:32] Speaker B: But I believe we're on your. Your go there, Joe Smart. [01:32:35] Speaker A: It's my rating. [01:32:36] Speaker B: Yes. [01:32:38] Speaker A: I think it's the best. I think it's the best of the relaunch 50s. No doubt. No doubt. Even though the third chapter is useless, pointless. Yeah. There's so many things you could. So many little things you could have done to it. I don't like that Terry Fitzgerald got superpowers. [01:33:00] Speaker C: Yeah, that's dumb. [01:33:01] Speaker A: It's been this long and you have to give it to him now. Why? Like, you're not. Are you that desperate? It just feels desperate and like fan bait. I don't know. I wasn't a fan. I like, I do. Like after Mark pointed out and I was wondering about the issue 50 callback that he had the. But like, here's the thing though. Like I said earlier, why not set up as a question? It's like, okay, set that up and be like, we have someone who has a little bit hell spotted him. Terry, if it's true, we have someone who used to be a hell. Spot on. Mark Downing or. Or Jim. [01:33:38] Speaker C: Jim Downing. [01:33:39] Speaker A: And then we have Mark Rosen, who kind is. Isn't a health spawn, but is. Which one did he choose? Yeah, like, that should have been the main mystery because what a cool reveal. Who you realized it was Terry at the end. I think it's a huge. Just missed opportunity. It is to be like, if you have those three, like kind of hell spawns in a cage together, why not make the mystery like, which one is it? [01:34:05] Speaker C: Yeah, because they could have. They could have started, you know, like after Terry was like, first abducted by Mammon. Being like, who. [01:34:13] Speaker A: Like, like once you see them. Because they're all health spawns. But they're not. [01:34:17] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:34:17] Speaker A: Like instead of traditional house ones. Used to be one. [01:34:21] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:34:22] Speaker A: You have. Which one is easier for house? 1 for plague swan to take over. [01:34:25] Speaker C: Yeah. And then. Then you could have gotten. You could have gotten rid of the. The Mammon being like, I don't know what's going on. Mammon could have just been like, I need. I need somebody who's been touched by a hellspawn. That's why you're here. Instead of. And try to. Instead of trying to make it seem like he's on Terry's team. Just like from the. From the get go. Be like, I'm a bad guy. I need to use one of you. One of you is gonna die. [01:34:50] Speaker A: It's the best of 50s. It gets honorary. Good, good, good tap for being a scorch 50 with the Jessica Pre save at the end. I'm gonna give it four headshots out of four. [01:35:02] Speaker C: Nice. Would you like to go second or [01:35:05] Speaker A: would you like to go four headshots out of five? I mean, sorry. [01:35:08] Speaker C: Would you like to go second or last? Mark? [01:35:11] Speaker B: I can go. Okay. All right. So like, you know, out of five, not four. I it up out of five. Four. You gave it a four out of four. [01:35:21] Speaker A: I gave it a four out of five is what I meant to say. Okay. [01:35:25] Speaker B: I agree with Johnny. As far as out of the three, I do think this one was like the. I mean, the best out of the three. [01:35:34] Speaker A: Remember the first one, they're just talking on cell phones for most people for 10 minutes. [01:35:39] Speaker C: For 10 minutes they talked. [01:35:41] Speaker A: She was like, hey, what are you doing? I'm on a mission. Like 10 minutes later. Okay, I'll talk to you later. That. That was one of my favorite episodes to listen to of our podcast after we edited it because I was cracking up and us making fun of them. The issues about them talking on cell phones. [01:35:57] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:35:58] Speaker B: Calling from like, what was it? A private number, Unlisted number under the bridge? You know, they were supposed to. Yes. You know, as far as the story goes, you know, had they not. Had he not played his hand so soon, like in, you know, issue in the second one where they show Terry's clothes and his wallet laying there, like, obviously something happens to him. So coming into this, we already had a pretty good idea of where it was going to go. I. I didn't mind so much that Terry was the one that was picked because I did think it was cool the way that they picked who the hell spot or who the placemark could go into. So the fact that, you know, Terry had some necropolis plasmic energy in him, but the thing that you know I didn't like is that. That's never pointed out, never mentioned by Mammon, never mentioned where Plague Spawn could go. So, yeah, I agree with Johnny. The fact that they should have left it down to those three because they're all at different stages in the Spawn, you know, universe as to where the Plague Spawn could, you know, could go. And yeah, even though hit the end, you know, in chapter six where Spawn completely misses that, it's Terry. [01:37:08] Speaker A: Oh my God. [01:37:09] Speaker B: Which, you know, kind of annoyed me because it does. [01:37:13] Speaker A: It feels like a betrayal of Al Simmons. Like, I respect. Yeah, love Al Simmons. I think he's a smart guy. I think he's been through a lot of. But like, when he's written good, I'm usually on Alison inside. But he just seemed like a dummy. [01:37:26] Speaker C: It was such a putz. [01:37:27] Speaker A: Yeah, like, like I said, it's like Todd McFarlane loves to have a villain, like, beat up. I'm gonna be like, you're wrong. You don't know, like for like a whole issue. Then be like, it's me. He. It's like a trope. It's not exactly the same. But like, even in Gunslinger and other issues, there's always like a guy shows up out of nowhere. He beats the. Out of the hero for like six pages and he's like, oh, I'm actually this. Or whatever. You know what it's like what will stick as an action figure sometimes to what it feels like to me with what he's writing. [01:38:01] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. I. I definitely think that by the end of this, he just kind of was like phoning it in because Spawn isn't fleshed out very well in this final. In this final part. But as far as Terry goes, you know, being absorbed, you know, by the Plague Spawn, I don't. In the back of my mind, I don't think that that's going to stick. I don't think that's going to stay because we've already got, you know, we already have Sin. We have. I mean, you know, we have Nick's on the throne. You know, we have the clown running around. I don't think that we need another high level villain. So what I agree. Which. What I think is going to happen is Plague is going to play some key part in some storyline, but then they're not going to really have any use for him. So what I think is, in my mind is going to happen is what. What should happen or the way that it could play out is that Nyx is going to be removed from the throne at some Point, she's gonna. They're not going to kill Nicks off. So I think she's going to revert back to herself. They're going to get the. The corruption out of her somehow, and then she will be the one that's able to separate Terry and the plague. Oh, that's because if she was able to put. If she was able to stitch Al back to his symbiote when they were separated, I'm fairly confident that with her magic, she should be able to separate the plague from Terry. So I don't think Terry's gone. I don't think he's lost, honestly. [01:39:30] Speaker A: That's a great theory. [01:39:35] Speaker B: Now that I've said that out loud, though, Todd's gonna hear it and be like, nope, we can't do that now. But, you know, in the back of my mind, that's the way that I see it playing out. So I don't think this is permanent. I do think it was kind of cool, you know, the way that they. They made it stick, you know, that plague had to be in somebody that was touched by necroplasm. Terry, you know, way back in the early days, Spawn went to the hospital and saved him so that Wanda and the kids, you know, he was. He was selfish or selfless. He could have used his last bit of energy to go, you know, to get out of there. But no, he used his last little bit to save Terry. And that's what, you know, that drained his necroplasm. He went back to hell. That's how Cyan ended up with the pacifier, you know, all that stuff. So the fact that they called all the way back to that, I really enjoyed. But I would say I still. I. I will give it three magical shackles out of five. [01:40:34] Speaker C: Nice. [01:40:35] Speaker B: It just. I feel that it could have been executed a little differently. But yeah, three out of five. [01:40:41] Speaker C: Nice. Picking up on what. What Johnny said. Like, they could have established in chapter one that it. Terry was taken for this purpose. And then. [01:40:54] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:40:54] Speaker C: For issues 50, like the second two 50s have, like an advertising campaign of who is it, who's gonna. Who's gonna die, who's gonna get absorbed by. [01:41:05] Speaker A: And it could have been missed opportunity. [01:41:07] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:41:08] Speaker C: As the. As a. As a marketing guy, Todd, it feels like Todd really biffed it on that. But yeah, it's as I have faith [01:41:18] Speaker A: in his already established characters that he realized that fans like us are invested in it. [01:41:23] Speaker C: Yeah. I think. I think he's. He's. He's somebody who's frequently distracted by the new and Shiny and figures that everybody else is also going to be. They only want the new and shiny. [01:41:34] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:41:35] Speaker A: Like in Rat City and in other series when they use deep lore. Like when they introduce. When John Layman introduced the two Eddies, like, yeah, brilliant. [01:41:45] Speaker C: I mean, he. It's not like he's. It's not like he's a stranger to deep lore. And literally the first Batman story he ever did. Did they have Joe Chill's gun that he uses to go right. Basically threaten Joe Chill and then he puts it in his back cave, but [01:42:06] Speaker A: it's like he only remembers what he wrote or, like, a few years ago, like we talked about in the last episode, Mark, that's coming out Friday. [01:42:16] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:42:19] Speaker A: For his. It's all about Omega island to get all this up Simon. It's like, where's Omega island been? Like, you ignored it for five years. [01:42:29] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:42:31] Speaker A: He likes the things he created. [01:42:32] Speaker C: I don't know. [01:42:32] Speaker A: He likes the things he created. He's our George Lucas. We love him. And, David, what are you gonna give this out of five? [01:42:41] Speaker C: I'm. I'm gonna give this three bottoms of the big right foot out of five. Because we see. We see the bottom of the big right foot again. [01:42:51] Speaker A: Well, before we go on, I have a little side segment that neither of you know about. [01:42:56] Speaker C: Oh, okay. [01:42:57] Speaker B: Oh. [01:42:57] Speaker C: Oh, I, I like a surprise sometimes. Depends on the surprise. [01:43:02] Speaker A: So, Mark, last time we recorded, you sent us a box. We hadn't opened it yet, but I've opened one of the blind boxes of the Spawn. It is the Angel Spawn minifigure. But I was wondering. [01:43:22] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:43:23] Speaker A: As a favor, if we could do a little Todd's toy talk session. [01:43:28] Speaker B: Sure. [01:43:29] Speaker A: Because I have the other box you sent me. I haven't opened it yet. [01:43:34] Speaker B: Oh, okay. [01:43:35] Speaker A: And I wonder if you guys would join me and we trade on opening a box spawn figure that we have within our grasp right now. [01:43:42] Speaker C: Okay. [01:43:43] Speaker B: You want me to open one? [01:43:48] Speaker A: If there's anything you can open. Do you have, like, a. Are you saving, like, you have, like, six wine boxes. You haven't opened some of them. You don't want to open it? That's fine. I'll challenge just David. [01:43:58] Speaker C: Okay, well, I got, I got all of them here. What? Is there a specific one you want me to open, or do you want me to. [01:44:06] Speaker A: What did you get from. What'd you get from Mark? Did you get another one of these? [01:44:09] Speaker C: Oh, I, I, I already opened them and took them to work. So I got, I got the. The elite edition of the original Spawn. I've got Mortal Kombat 11 spawn. I've got the 1977 spawn with the Todd McFarlane action figures. I got the crocodile. I could open. I could open this guy. [01:44:31] Speaker A: Yeah, I kind of want to see detect. [01:44:33] Speaker C: Okay, I'll open it. I'll open the Technospad crocodile. [01:44:36] Speaker A: So. But first, that's all to say it's time for. Time. It for market. [01:44:57] Speaker C: Do. Do you want to do it all at the same time or do you want take turns? [01:44:59] Speaker A: Have to open anything? There's no. [01:45:01] Speaker B: I, I found one I was going to use. This is just one that was in like my giveaway pile. [01:45:07] Speaker A: All right. [01:45:08] Speaker B: I figured it was appropriate. [01:45:09] Speaker C: Are we doing this at the same time or whatever? Okay, okay, okay. [01:45:14] Speaker A: I don't have the other figure Mark sent me. [01:45:17] Speaker B: I don't have him out of the box. [01:45:19] Speaker A: So what the hell is. Oh my God, that looks so cool. It's the fucking Mandarin spawn. [01:45:27] Speaker C: Yeah, it is. Yeah. [01:45:28] Speaker B: I think you guys have said like during the show that you'd like the Mandarin one also. So [01:45:34] Speaker C: the only, the only problem with the Mandarin spawn is you have to be very careful with the sword because the sword will just slide out of his hand. It's so detailed. It's incredibly detailed. Yeah. [01:45:49] Speaker B: The thing is though, when they. So the detail on the series one figures is just nuts. The second series I didn't think was as good. I have that series as well. [01:45:58] Speaker A: This is amazing. [01:45:59] Speaker C: I'm about to sniff this 20 year old air in here, darling. Smells like the. It smells like the inside of a new. Like when you used to get like a set of swimming goggles with like the rubber on them that went over your nose. It smells like that. [01:46:18] Speaker A: Oh, man, I love this thing. [01:46:22] Speaker B: Oh yeah, like they still have a. That aroma. Steel pocket. [01:46:28] Speaker C: Oh, and it's all tape instead of twist ties. Hell yeah. That's what I like to see you get it out. Yeah. So he's got, it's got a couple of cannons that I gotta attach later. Oh, look at this guy. He's got. Oh, oh, oh. [01:46:47] Speaker A: I'm so mad that you have that right. [01:46:52] Speaker C: His mouth opens and he's got, he's got this little. [01:46:56] Speaker A: Oh, I'm so glad that was made. [01:46:58] Speaker C: So you [01:47:01] Speaker B: break it? [01:47:02] Speaker C: No. [01:47:03] Speaker B: Where did it pop off? [01:47:04] Speaker C: It's if they came, they came unattached. And so it's got, it's got like an array of. Oh, and its tail is articulated and its legs are all articulated. [01:47:19] Speaker B: I do not have any of those open. I don't know which series is that? Is that. [01:47:23] Speaker C: Yeah, 15 okay. [01:47:24] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay. So I went over to my pile of random extras that I have. I did find one that I found figure was appropriate to open up for the show. [01:47:39] Speaker A: Hey. [01:47:40] Speaker C: Oh, hey, look at that. [01:47:42] Speaker B: Got plug spawn. So I do have him open up. This was. This come out? This came out. [01:47:52] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:47:52] Speaker B: So I. I'm looking around. I do not have a plague spawn out of box. So I think he was on clearance when I picked him up. It's not one of my favorite figures. And I'll show you. I'll show you why, like, once I get him out of the box, like sometimes, you know, some of the. Some of the newer stuff they've came out with has kind of been like a. In my opinion, like a swing and a miss. [01:48:10] Speaker C: But it's got. It's got a. It's got a spring tail. [01:48:14] Speaker B: Oh, that's from the. The Techno Spawn, which I don't think has any tie into any comic at all. [01:48:24] Speaker C: Probably not. [01:48:25] Speaker B: I was just tired getting random. [01:48:26] Speaker A: Dude, this man, this Manus one, this is amazing with the shield. [01:48:31] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I think the detail one is great. [01:48:34] Speaker C: Yeah. Like, his. His clothing is so detailed too. Johnny, you'll be. [01:48:38] Speaker B: It looks way better than the one that they came out with for the page punchers. [01:48:43] Speaker C: You'll be. You'll be excited. Johnny, there's an advertisement for Sleepy Hollow Toys. [01:48:50] Speaker A: Hell yeah. [01:48:51] Speaker C: It says heads will roll in November. [01:48:54] Speaker A: Yeah. I got the sword. [01:48:56] Speaker C: Okay. [01:48:56] Speaker B: I have a couple ties to get [01:49:00] Speaker A: off of here to get him out of here. [01:49:01] Speaker B: Hold on. They've got him in there rather well. He's tied down. Put him out of there. One more. Oh, I'm not going to cut you. Just move over to the side. [01:49:18] Speaker A: Okay, [01:49:21] Speaker B: we got another one. Hold on. Back in the day, they used to be held in with twist ties, which was a lot easier. Okay. [01:49:29] Speaker A: All right. [01:49:30] Speaker B: So the thing that I don't really care. He's another one on his hand. Get off there. [01:49:36] Speaker C: All right. [01:49:37] Speaker B: The thing that I don't care about is his face. [01:49:41] Speaker A: Yeah, [01:49:43] Speaker B: I mean, it does have a cool base for him to stand on, [01:49:49] Speaker A: but those bases are indisposable. Those are amazing to have. [01:49:53] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:49:53] Speaker B: So, yeah, the thing that I don't really care about. Which I'll see if I can get him on the camera. Well, man, his arm is like super articulated. The figure itself looks good, but I don't know, just on his face, it looks like he has lipstick on. [01:50:09] Speaker C: It looks like he tried to be the Joker. [01:50:12] Speaker B: Yeah, like, it just looks like lipstick. It doesn't look like. Like his mouth is Glowing red, you know, and yellow inside. Looks like lipstick. And they just painted the teeth. So that was the thing that I didn't care for, for this figure when I saw it. So it wasn't, like, on my list to open up, but I mean, the base. The base is pretty cool looking like the one that's. [01:50:36] Speaker C: Oh, wow. [01:50:37] Speaker B: It goes up under his foot. And then he also does have a separate pair of hands because this hand has, like, some long, like, aliens coming out of it. [01:50:47] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:50:48] Speaker B: So he does come with a different set of hands, but it's. It's not so bad once you open him up. [01:50:53] Speaker C: Nice. [01:50:54] Speaker B: But yeah, I figured he was appropriate to. To get out and let him. I just. Oh, great. I just unleashed plague spot on my collection. Terry. Terry is still. Oh, no, wait, I do have a Terry that's loose. Maybe I should put them outside now. Yeah, Terry's. Terry's in trouble, but. Yeah, I don't think Terry's gone forever. That's just my theory because, I mean, technically he's not. He's not dead. He's just. Yeah, right. I mean, the kids are now parentless. I mean, they have Granny Blake, but she's blind and dead. [01:51:27] Speaker A: Right. [01:51:28] Speaker C: Did she die? I don't think she died yet because the last time we saw her was in. [01:51:36] Speaker B: No, she was in a King Spawn. [01:51:39] Speaker C: Was that. [01:51:40] Speaker A: Was that after that miniseries? [01:51:44] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:51:44] Speaker A: What's it called? Oh, [01:51:47] Speaker B: Misery. [01:51:48] Speaker C: Misery. [01:51:50] Speaker B: Which. I really hope somebody picks that up [01:51:52] Speaker A: because, you know, honestly, this. Yeah, it would be good to see. [01:51:56] Speaker B: Yeah, Misery was great. I just thought it was like, very raw. Like, you know, it talks about domestic violence. Violence and. And rape. Or grape. [01:52:04] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:52:04] Speaker B: Do we need to edit that? [01:52:06] Speaker A: No, no, dude, I. I was at work and I was training a kid and he said unalived, and I said. [01:52:13] Speaker B: What do you think he said? Un. Alive. Like in real life. [01:52:16] Speaker A: Unalive. Like unironically. He's like 23, and I was training him. I was like, this thing killed him or died. Yeah, it's fine. [01:52:24] Speaker C: Don't be. Don't be. Death. Death is a natural part of life. [01:52:27] Speaker B: Don't. [01:52:27] Speaker C: Don't abstract away from it. We've already abstracted away from death. [01:52:31] Speaker A: What is unalive better than that? Why is that better? Because it's shitty. [01:52:36] Speaker B: Because I think it's on tick tock. You can't say murder or dead. You say unalive. So that means. [01:52:41] Speaker A: That's stupid. That's stupid, yeah. It's a huge part of the world we live in. [01:52:46] Speaker C: I mean, ultimately, ultimately, death is why we're living. If it weren't for death, we wouldn't be living. [01:52:56] Speaker B: We're just filling in the time, you know, trying to fill the time before all that comes. [01:53:00] Speaker A: We're also hoping to get a little necroplastum so we can maybe come back, Right? [01:53:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:53:06] Speaker A: I want to be the world's first. [01:53:09] Speaker C: You need to start. You need to start eating more of those creepy crawlies that don't live in God's light, Johnny. So that way you can build up your necroplasm before you. You just gotta just go hit the dumpster. [01:53:21] Speaker A: This is our return of the Jedi of the 50s. Let's all give our ranking of the 50s. Number three. I would say gunslinger. [01:53:32] Speaker C: Gunslinger's definitely the worst. [01:53:33] Speaker A: King spawn. 50. Number one. This one. [01:53:36] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:53:38] Speaker B: I would have to agree. [01:53:40] Speaker C: I think that that has to be the rating. Yeah. [01:53:44] Speaker B: Is that like a subcategory in the Hellfire Club that we all three agree on? The ranking of the books, since we didn't give it. [01:53:50] Speaker A: Make up a new sound for that. [01:53:52] Speaker C: You know, I'm not gonna remember what I do, so it doesn't really matter. I'll put something in, but put something in. Don't expect me to. It'll be. It'll be like our version of the hand holding club. [01:54:05] Speaker A: Mark, it's been so great to have you for these 50s. I'm so glad it spawned. [01:54:10] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I'm glad that we got to vent. I mean, we got to talk about something. [01:54:16] Speaker C: It's cool. [01:54:16] Speaker A: It's somewhat refreshing to, like, be into something that's very niche and just talk to someone that's read them all. Yeah. And be like, hey, let's talk about this for real. I like this. I love this. I have a podcast about it, but. [01:54:30] Speaker C: But this sucks, and I want to talk about it a little better. [01:54:33] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, we can't. [01:54:35] Speaker A: I think with the relaunch, with all the new authors, I think maybe they got the message. They're like, hey, Todd. [01:54:42] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:54:42] Speaker A: And I know he wants to create. I love. I love that he wants to create. And he is. He has moments that are great. Like, we love Todd's issue last week on our podcast. We love parts of this one, but it's like, maybe give him a coloring book or something. [01:55:00] Speaker B: You're right. Just go over. Just sit in the corner for a minute. [01:55:03] Speaker A: Let the. [01:55:03] Speaker B: Let the other kids play in the same box a little while. [01:55:06] Speaker C: Let him hit the batting cages for a little bit. Get some of that. Get some of that energy out. [01:55:11] Speaker A: Can you imagine being. Oh, I'm gonna give additional storage Echo Schultz. I'd be like, nope, no, I'm not gonna do it. [01:55:19] Speaker B: You know, and that's. You bring up a good point, Johnny. That's. That was the whole reason that I started, you know, posting a lot on Instagram when I was, you know, you know, building up my page. And that's why I launched my YouTube channel. And that's why I like listening to your podcast. And the Spawnography podcast is because it's, like, some of these issues that I read, and I'm like, I want to talk to somebody about it, and there's nobody to talk about it. So even the fact that, you know, I mean, I've been on your show now, you know, four times, but you guys are up to 100, almost 200 issue or episodes. I listen to you guys every week, you know, and it may not be, like, a live interaction, but, you know, I. I'm agreeing and disagreeing with, you know, whatever you guys are saying is I'm listening. And that's what I love about your show, is I get to hear somebody talk about it. [01:56:05] Speaker A: I remember we bonded at spawncon. [01:56:07] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:56:08] Speaker A: The first thing you said was like, whoa. You actually read Gunslinger? I was like, yeah. We talked about, like, the plot of Gunslinger. And you're like, dude, no one. And you took. We were outside. I was vaping weed, and you were talking to a vape pen, and I [01:56:22] Speaker B: was, like, talking about Ruby Tuesdays. [01:56:24] Speaker A: You were talking about Ruby Tuesdays, but I was like. You were like, no one reads them. Like, yeah, cousin. It was so refreshing to meet someone there, even at Spawn. [01:56:34] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:56:34] Speaker A: Like, they just care about the covers or, like, the hype or, like, whatever. It's like, I'm here for the story. I'm here for the universe. I'm completely committed, and it's so cool to, like, connect with someone that also is on that level. Or we can be like, okay, you got your. Maybe you sold out all issues of the 50s at comic shops, but, like, the people that are reading it, like, it's not. You could have done better. [01:57:00] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, you know, just because it's. I mean, granted, you know, I have a room full of this stuff, but that doesn't mean that I love every single thing that comes out. We, you know, we can critique it and we can talk about it, but, you know, Johnny, you were, you know, saying how you and I, you know, just started talking and, you know, kind of bonded at Spawn Conduct. I think you were the only person. Person that I actually, like, connected with. There that I, like, didn't already know. And it was, it was really cool because there's like nobody in my day to day life that I can sit down and talk about Spawn with. So, you know, I, I like to come on your show and, you know, do my YouTube channel and do my stuff on Instagram as a way to, you know, just to get it out there. And so that's my way of talking about it, you know, and sharing it. So it's, it is, it's great and, you know, refreshing to be able to just sit, you know, and just talk about it and, you know, give our opinion and say what we liked and what we didn't like. And there's, you just can't find it out there really. Because I would go on all these spawn. Different Spawn pages or on Facebook you [01:58:02] Speaker A: have this 8964C variant. Yeah, it's like, I don't know, I can tell someone, like, it emotionally affects me what they did to Terry Fitzgerald and that. And you understand what I'm talking about. That, yeah, that's cool. [01:58:16] Speaker B: But, you know, I would ask in these groups, I'm like, hey, you know, did you guys check out the latest issue? And like you said, oh, well, I'm looking for, you know, 254, you know, B cover. And I'm like, okay, I, I, I don't, All I did was to complete my run is I got all of the A covers. I don't care about all the old variants, you know, you know, the 185 black and white, the super rare or these rare books. Like, I don't care. That's not what, you know, appeals to me. I'm not, I'm not trying to get everything now since I've gotten, you know, back in this bot, all the current stuff, I buy every issue I can, but every, yeah, but I, I do it because I love it. And you know, the fact that, you know, we can talk about it is just awesome. [01:58:59] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, it's really fun. [01:59:02] Speaker C: It is really fun. And speaking of it being fun, talking about Spawn. Johnny, it is time for me to reveal what we should read next time. What is it on this very, on this very show. So next time we are going to read Gunslinger 51 and Kingspawn 53. So. [01:59:20] Speaker A: Okay. [01:59:21] Speaker C: Very, very exciting. [01:59:24] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't remember. You're a couple issues away. I can't remember what Todd. I think Todd's last issue of gunslinger was 53. [01:59:33] Speaker C: I don't know, flipping, flipping through this issue. I'm pretty excited for what I'm seeing. So we'll see. We'll see if that remains the case. Looks like. It looks like there's some. Some good shit in there. And then obviously kingspawn53. Oh, boy. It's gonna be. It's gonna be another banger, it looks like. Whoo. [01:59:51] Speaker A: You're getting ahead of yourself, David. [01:59:54] Speaker C: Why is that? [01:59:54] Speaker A: You haven't even said thank you to Lonnie Vaughns. I have music. You can look it up online. You can also look us up online and regarding Swampod on Instagram when we post, which is not very often because I'm retired from all social media and Dave is trying to pick up Slack. But we are two human beings. [02:00:16] Speaker C: I've always. I've always been bad at it. [02:00:19] Speaker B: Yes. At least you're upfront about it. [02:00:20] Speaker C: And it's hard enough just posting pictures of dogs frequently and. [02:00:26] Speaker B: And guys, Johnny and David have brought it up to death. But I'm. I'm going to stand on here because I know everybody listens till the very end of the podcast. You guys need to send the show an email. Tell them. [02:00:36] Speaker C: Please do. [02:00:37] Speaker B: Tell them that you loved that tiny Spawny was on there as a guest. Tell them your opinion on this. You know. [02:00:43] Speaker A: 350 Mark, will you do us a favor? [02:00:46] Speaker B: Yes. [02:00:47] Speaker A: Your Spawn community reach as a spawn community. God, compared to us. Will you link to our episode, this episode when it comes out? [02:00:57] Speaker B: Yes. [02:00:57] Speaker A: And will you link in the episode? Link not. Not a message to us, but a DM to you. And we will give them that violator. Oh, yeah. [02:01:10] Speaker B: Yes. Okay, so guys, if. If you send me whether you DM me on Instagram or. Yeah, let's just say Instagram or my YouTube channel. I don't care. But just mention this episode of regarding Spawn and like how much you loved it. We will get you guys. They are giving away the violator. [02:01:31] Speaker C: Yeah, this is that. That good one. That's way better than it should be. [02:01:37] Speaker B: So I am really shocked that none of you have reached out to try to get this book. It is 140 free. [02:01:42] Speaker C: 100%. [02:01:43] Speaker B: No problem on Instagram entering my giveaways. So all you have to do is just send Johnny and David an email. That's it. [02:01:52] Speaker C: Yeah. [02:01:53] Speaker B: Say hi. Say give me the free book. So anything. [02:01:55] Speaker C: What? I have to go to the. I have to go to the post office. Oh, no. I might get to buy some stamps. [02:02:02] Speaker A: Oh, they might have a VHS copy of the Hobbit. Just that story. [02:02:08] Speaker C: The post office. [02:02:09] Speaker A: Yeah. [02:02:10] Speaker B: David has an unnatural fear of post office. So you're gonna challenge him to go to the post office and buy stamps and stand in line. So let's, let's do that things. [02:02:22] Speaker C: I love it. I love it. [02:02:26] Speaker A: The reveal will be a multi drop on time. Spotted speed and our speed. And we will give our mission is we within a week of this episode dropping. You want this trade paperback of the original Violator miniseries in someone's hands. [02:02:42] Speaker C: Yeah. To be in a good home, a nice home that's not filled with dogs. Well, I guess, I guess if you have dogs, it's fine. But I mean these dogs aren't gonna read it. They don't know. This guy doesn't even have eyes. [02:02:53] Speaker B: Can't read it. You. You guys are taking up space where another dog could be laying. [02:02:58] Speaker C: Yeah. [02:02:59] Speaker B: Valuable space. [02:03:00] Speaker C: You were keeping me from getting another dog because this ding dang book. [02:03:05] Speaker B: Yeah. So please, please give. Give David a mission so that he has to go to the post office and clear up a space for a loving dog. You need to play like the Susan Sarandon background. The eyes. We need to really sell it. Yeah, that one. Or you could just sing it. Yeah, you just sing over top of it. [02:03:25] Speaker A: Loves to sing. Yeah. [02:03:29] Speaker C: Much. Much to my wife's chagrin. [02:03:31] Speaker A: Thanks for being here. [02:03:32] Speaker C: Thank you very much. Mark, we fucking love having you on. Always such a good time. You're. You've mentioned them, but you haven't explicitly said this time what your. Your handles on Instagram and YouTube are. [02:03:46] Speaker A: Plug yourself, Mark. [02:03:47] Speaker C: Plug yourself. [02:03:48] Speaker B: Well, you can find me over on Instagram @TinySpawney. [02:03:54] Speaker C: Hell yeah. [02:03:55] Speaker B: Which is also linked to Facebook, but I don't think anybody goes there anymore. So whatever. [02:04:00] Speaker A: I post ad videos to pretend to be the news. [02:04:03] Speaker B: Yeah. So yeah, the. Whenever I post on Instagram ends up on Facebook and then so I do have a YouTube channel. But like I had mentioned earlier, I have started traveling for work. So I'm not able to do my episodes as often as I would like. I'm going to try to do them a few like while I'm out on the road. [02:04:24] Speaker A: Can you imagine what that feels like? I will do episodes as often as you would like. [02:04:29] Speaker C: Can't even, can't even fathom what it would be like to. To miss an episode of release day. [02:04:35] Speaker B: So I mean, actually I did while I was out, while I was in Georgia, I did sit in with World of War comics and we got to interview Jet Lecanus. [02:04:45] Speaker C: Oh, nice. [02:04:46] Speaker B: That was really cool. That's. That is a moment like, this is [02:04:49] Speaker A: for everyone if you're listening and like you Like Spawn or you, like, you want to do something and, like Mark doing his channel and us doing this and we miss weeks, our personal lives. It happens. But, like, just make it. [02:05:05] Speaker C: Yeah. [02:05:05] Speaker A: And just. If you can only make it once a month. Once every two months. [02:05:09] Speaker B: Yep. [02:05:09] Speaker A: Just start it, and it'll. It'll get easier. [02:05:13] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. But, yeah, let's talk Spawn. If you guys head over there to YouTube, that's. That's my channel over there. I've got, like, I think a little over four months worth of episodes, weekly episodes. So I'm gonna. I'm gonna get another one up before I actually go back out. I'm not sure where I'm headed next, but, yeah, I try to put as much Spawn stuff out there as I can. Nice. We love it. We love it. [02:05:40] Speaker A: And. [02:05:41] Speaker B: And do occasional giveaways on my own. So, yeah, you guys have no problem entering my giveaways, so get yourself a free Violator trademark. [02:05:50] Speaker C: Do it. Do it. [02:05:52] Speaker B: Maybe David will include a. A paw print from Dingus. Yeah, I can. [02:05:58] Speaker C: I can put it. I can. I'll figure something out. [02:06:02] Speaker B: He can. He can. [02:06:03] Speaker C: He can. He can even. He can even nibble on the book if you want him to. [02:06:07] Speaker B: There you go. [02:06:08] Speaker A: All I'm craving right now, David, is a giveaway from your lips. [02:06:13] Speaker C: A giveaway, you mean? Well, Johnny Mark, this has been an excellent little bit of Spawn talking. Glad that we get to do this. [02:06:28] Speaker A: A trilogy of Spawn. [02:06:29] Speaker C: A trilogy of Spawn talking. [02:06:30] Speaker A: The Ewoks of Vanquish, the Empire. [02:06:33] Speaker C: I think. I think, as the runtime will note, I have probably run out of constructive things to say, So I will just leave you with Johnny Mark. May the Scorch be with you. [02:06:46] Speaker A: And with you also with you to David. [02:06:48] Speaker C: Hell yeah. [02:06:50] Speaker A: Hell yeah. What if one of the villains that Tom McFarlane wanted, plaguespawn to take over was Tom McPar. [02:06:57] Speaker C: Oh, interesting. [02:06:59] Speaker A: He was like, I found this man on the street. He's selling baseballs. He's been touched by a Hell Swan. Sam, [02:07:47] Speaker B: It.
