[00:00:00] Speaker A: A butterfly flaps its wings in Brazil. And it creates a tornado in Kansas or something like that. Al Simmons changed everything, and no one knew what would change next. Good evening and welcome to the Malibuls. This is regarding spawn, the world's best spawn podcast, I guess. Well, I guess we should be the world's best new you podcast. We'll talk about that. I'm your host. Co host. Not only hosts. I am your co host, John Fisher. [00:00:59] Speaker B: And I am your co host, David Williams. And you better. You better not drop that code, Johnny. I'll fight you all. Fisticuffs for you. [00:01:05] Speaker A: Yeah, sorry, not host. Co host. Co host. [00:01:10] Speaker B: Hopefully you aren't presaging a split between the co hosts based on the split between our two favorite cops in one of the. [00:01:20] Speaker A: I mean, we did cosplay Sam and twitch at c two e two last. [00:01:23] Speaker B: Weekend, so we got the Tom o seal of approval on them too, which is. Yeah, he's touched more spawn than anybody else. Oh, that's a terrible way to put it. [00:01:32] Speaker A: Oh, no, it's true. Oh, only if you think about it that way. [00:01:38] Speaker B: Well, Johnny, we're on the Internet, Johnny. Somebody's thinking of it that way. [00:01:44] Speaker A: That's true. [00:01:46] Speaker B: That's just the way the world works, unfortunately. [00:01:49] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:01:50] Speaker B: If we were going to be accurate, we would just walk around with the bonk noise on repeat. Like just playing out of a speaker. [00:01:57] Speaker A: Bonking everyone for being too horny on Main. [00:02:00] Speaker B: We gotta. We gotta go buy some wiffle ball bats and just bonk, bonk, bonk. That might actually get me in a lot of trouble. [00:02:10] Speaker A: Yeah, don't go around bonking people with wiffle bats. You might get Sam and twitch on your ass. [00:02:14] Speaker B: Could you imagine the news report of man dismembered after a hitting other man with wiffle ball bat on green line? Do the story at ten. [00:02:24] Speaker A: Well, welcome. Welcome to. Regarding Spawn. [00:02:26] Speaker B: Yes. [00:02:26] Speaker A: We bring you two issues from Spawn's universe. I guess for the new you. [00:02:31] Speaker B: The new you. [00:02:32] Speaker A: We. Two issues for the new you. I'm still gonna call it Spawn's universe. Yeah, sorry. [00:02:36] Speaker B: Spawn's universe just makes more sense. [00:02:38] Speaker A: It's Spawns universe. The skull in it. Come on. [00:02:41] Speaker B: I mean, the you. [00:02:42] Speaker A: Because it's confusing. It won't always be new. [00:02:45] Speaker B: Yeah, well, I mean, it's like that time back in, like, the mid teens here, where Marvel had. Oh, what did they have? They had all new, and then, like, all. I don't know. But they had a series where it was like, one year. They had one phrase, and then they added another. Another new to the phrase. And then, like, all new. It was a wild. It was a while. They were putting out new number ones, like, every three weeks. Like, almost every single arc was just one through five. And then that series would go one through five again, and it was like, what the hell? [00:03:25] Speaker A: What are you doing? [00:03:27] Speaker B: I don't know. It was very confusing. That's why we love the toddfather, because he doesn't renumber unnecessarily. [00:03:32] Speaker A: Some special numbers this week, because we are doing two number ones. [00:03:36] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:03:37] Speaker A: All the way from the new you. [00:03:39] Speaker B: It's feeling a little bit like DJ Khaled in here, johnny. And another one. [00:03:43] Speaker A: And another one. [00:03:44] Speaker B: How did that guy get famous again? Just screaming his name in the background of other people's songs, right? [00:03:51] Speaker A: I think so. I'm being a dj. [00:03:52] Speaker B: Can I show up and just scream my name in the background of other people's songs and then make bajillions of dollars? I'd love to try. [00:04:01] Speaker A: You can always try. [00:04:02] Speaker B: You got any contacts that I could exploit for that? [00:04:05] Speaker A: No one I know. I would have done it already. [00:04:08] Speaker B: We're gonna have to do it ourself. I'm gonna have to edit it into the background of this episode, Johnny. And see if it gets us anywhere. Just randomly getting us somewhere is. [00:04:19] Speaker A: We have these two issues. [00:04:20] Speaker B: Yes. [00:04:21] Speaker A: From Spawn's universe, the new you. Today we are covering rat city number one and Sam and Twitch case files number one. So these two new issues that just came out this spring to kind of kick off this big old explosion of Spawn we got coming up. [00:04:39] Speaker B: So we figured it'd be a good time to cover these, if you will, spawn splosion sponsors, you know, as. As Thomas Healy had said, 300 is a great jumping on point. And, well, I mean, obviously, with all these new number ones, there's a whole bunch of other great jumping on points for people after. It's just like the season of jumping on points for spawn. [00:05:00] Speaker A: Johnny, just jump. Jump on. Hop the fuck on, bitch. [00:05:04] Speaker B: Come on. Whoa. Speaking of the green line, man, could you imagine if the conductors on the CTA were just like that, instead of being so polite and just being like, get out of the way of the doors, just being like, bitch, get on this train. That would be great. [00:05:22] Speaker A: So we got Rat City and Sam and twitch. Case files are what we're bringing you today. [00:05:26] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:28] Speaker A: I guess we'll start with Rat City here. [00:05:30] Speaker B: That sounds fine to me. I was going back and forth. I had reasons why one would be good to go in front of the other for both of them. So I'm glad you made a decision for me, Johnny. [00:05:42] Speaker A: I think Rat City would be better because Sam and Twitch is so short. It's like a palate cleanser at the end. [00:05:47] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:05:48] Speaker A: Rat C is the meatier one. [00:05:50] Speaker B: Oh, and it's good. I'm just excited to get into this. We've been talking for a real long time about how we've been excited for this book, Johnny. I know we're going to talk about this book, and I'm really excited for this, so. But can't get ahead of ourselves, Johnny. What do we always do when we start talking about a book? [00:06:07] Speaker A: We always got to cover the covers. [00:06:09] Speaker B: Yeah, we do. [00:06:10] Speaker A: And that is no different. There are two covers to this. One of them hasn't even come out yet. Yeah, no, it's coming soon. But the COVID we've got is the classic a cover. Of course. It's the only one that originally came out by Z Carlos. [00:06:27] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [00:06:28] Speaker A: And it is Peter Cairn, our spawn of the future, who we haven't really seen yet. But we get to see him here. [00:06:34] Speaker B: Yeah, we get to meet him in this issue when we meet Peter. [00:06:39] Speaker A: Karen, but we don't meet his spawn quite yet. [00:06:41] Speaker B: Yeah, no, but we gotta. We gotta learn about that. We gotta learn about the man in the. In the symbiote before we can care about him. Johnny, of course. [00:06:49] Speaker A: Of course. There's this cover which is just. Yeah, the new future swan. Kind of hanging off the side of like, a big old steampunk. Or not. Steampunk. Yeah, cyberpunk. Oops, I'm kind of punk. [00:07:00] Speaker B: Johnny. Johnny's getting his punks confused. [00:07:02] Speaker A: Next, steampunk. [00:07:04] Speaker B: Next. He's gonna confuse his crust punk and his grind. Oh, boy. [00:07:07] Speaker A: I don't want to mix that up. That sounds like trouble. [00:07:13] Speaker B: I could think of a couple of people who would. Who would raise a. Raise a stink about it, but then everybody else would just be like, what were those words you just said? [00:07:20] Speaker A: Yeah, what are you talking about? [00:07:23] Speaker B: Sometimes I don't even know Johnny. Most times, actually. Yeah, he's clinging to the. It looks like he's near the top of this cyberpunk building. And, man, it looks like drone technology in the future allows you to get graffiti up in those high places. Johnny, look at that. [00:07:41] Speaker A: That's a graffiti way up there. [00:07:43] Speaker B: This is looking like those towers in LA that have been, you know, abandoned by the developers. And just all the taggers in the town have been slowly filling it up. [00:07:53] Speaker A: Yeah, you just get the kind of. A little bit of the futuristic a little bit of, like, just, like, detritus and trash and stuff. [00:08:00] Speaker B: Yeah. Pieces of paper just floating around in the air. I like how Z Carlos has incorporated his signature onto one of those pieces of garbage. [00:08:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:08:11] Speaker B: It's just very. It's very organic, even though it's a very inorganic space. [00:08:17] Speaker A: Yeah, it's cool. It's evocative. It's interesting. It makes you want to pick it up and read it. [00:08:21] Speaker B: Yeah. He's got those green, like, crosshairs coming out of his eyes. Oh, it's so good. They're good. [00:08:28] Speaker A: Yep. He's zooming in on you. [00:08:29] Speaker B: Yeah. The. The reprint cover, which will actually be coming out on May 8, which. So by the time this episode drops, the reprint cover will be there, so. [00:08:39] Speaker A: Yes. And it is really cool. It's like a blueprint of the suit of the future spawn. [00:08:46] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. It's a little bit. It's a little bit spoiler. Like, it ties into kind of a scene in the book. [00:08:54] Speaker A: Does it? [00:08:55] Speaker B: Yeah. With the. When they're at pts, they're, like, looking at all this stuff. It's kind of like the little pad they have that has the information. [00:09:03] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:09:04] Speaker B: People in it. So. [00:09:05] Speaker A: Yeah. That's a cool second printing. That's awesome. We got a second printing. [00:09:08] Speaker B: It is. It is great. Yeah. I mean, it deserves it. I think. I think it's sold out. It's sold out at the distributor level immediately. [00:09:16] Speaker A: Now, what does that mean? That means it's like, the comic shops bought them all up. [00:09:19] Speaker B: So I think. Yeah, I think that means that for pre orders, every single issue that was originally printed was pre ordered by the stores. So that means that, like, on release day, they immediately ordered a second print, which just means a lot of people were excited about it and for good reason. And it did not disappoint. Holy shit. [00:09:41] Speaker A: It did not. [00:09:42] Speaker B: I have never read anything by Erica Schultz, but I might have to, because this is a very well written book, Johnny. [00:09:51] Speaker A: Yeah. It's exciting, and it's just, like, opens up its own world and, like, just a lot of fun. [00:09:56] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, speaking of open up the world, Johnny, we should open up this new you and crack open the COVID new year, new you. Here we are. We're opening up the new you. It's more. More of a v. It's a new v. But, you know, semantics. [00:10:17] Speaker A: But, yeah. The script plots by Erica Schultz, as we mentioned. [00:10:19] Speaker B: Yes. [00:10:20] Speaker A: First female writer on spawn. So took long enough. [00:10:24] Speaker B: Yeah. And it's. I like that. Apparently, in interviews, like, she was apparently presented with, she spawned and be like, you want to do she spawn? And she's like, no, no, no. I got an idea. This is what I got something better. [00:10:37] Speaker A: Yeah. No, that's what Thomas Healy said in Spawn con was that they were, like, offered her she spawn. She was like, yeah. [00:10:46] Speaker B: So that just makes it even more exciting that this is specifically her vision. Like, nobody was like, you know what would be good for a female writer on spot? [00:10:55] Speaker A: Right? [00:10:56] Speaker B: So this is fully formed from Erica Schultz's brain meat. Yeah, it's good. [00:11:05] Speaker A: It is art by Z. Carlos. [00:11:07] Speaker B: Speaking of good. Holy shit. This is. This is their first book doing interiors, right? [00:11:15] Speaker A: I actually don't know. [00:11:17] Speaker B: Let's. Let's take a quick. A quick google. Although now it looks. I guess it looks like they've got 52 books that show up on Marvel Unlimited, so I'm assuming. [00:11:29] Speaker A: Yeah, they must have done some interiors, then. [00:11:31] Speaker B: Yeah, they've. They've done some interiors. Dang. Well, all right. No, dang. But still. Oh, they did Spider Man 2099. They did Spider Man 2099, which is right up the sally. Ooh. Written by Steve Orlando. Shit, I should probably read that. [00:11:48] Speaker A: Yeah. He does an amazing job. Just like, I remember really liking his covers. They did when he was the featured artist a few months ago. [00:11:55] Speaker B: Yes. [00:11:56] Speaker A: And just being able to give him a full book to really run wild with his art. And, you know, the colorist, J. David Ramos and the other guys too, as well. [00:12:10] Speaker B: Fc o Placentia and Marcello Iazo. Iazoli. [00:12:14] Speaker A: Yeah, Iazoli. Yeah, those three. Those three do an excellent work on the colors. Really make it pop and get that futuristic kind of neon look to it all. [00:12:24] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. A little bit of. A little bit of a shake up in the. In this new you, Johnny, lettering. We got Erica Schultz doing her own lettering. Oh, man. [00:12:37] Speaker A: Tom. Oh. [00:12:38] Speaker B: Oh, where's. Where's the Tom father? Although I, what? With 19 current titles, I'm sure at some point, he was like, I cannot do all of these. [00:12:48] Speaker A: I cannot do all of them. Yeah. [00:12:51] Speaker B: But that's awesome. That's awesome. [00:12:53] Speaker A: No, this is great. That's cool to pull double duty. [00:12:56] Speaker B: Yeah, well, triple duty, because she got that script, that plot. That's double duty. Then lettering. That's a triple duty. That's triple threat. [00:13:04] Speaker A: That's a triple threat. [00:13:05] Speaker B: Yeah. She's now officially a theater kid. She's a triple threat. [00:13:11] Speaker A: Yep. [00:13:13] Speaker B: Done. Covered the COVID Got. Todd McFarlane is the creative director, and Thomas Healy is the editor in chief. [00:13:21] Speaker A: Yes. And this is from March 2024 is when it was released. [00:13:28] Speaker B: Just. Just like, just that way. Just a little bit ago. [00:13:32] Speaker A: Just a little bit ago. [00:13:34] Speaker B: It's always very. Since we've been, you know, tromping through many, many issued series is. It's very weird to see. No. Previously on. [00:13:46] Speaker A: I know. It is weird to have. [00:13:47] Speaker B: No. [00:13:47] Speaker A: Previously on. Because usually we do. [00:13:49] Speaker B: It would have been. It would have been funny if the mandate for all the new. The new books was to just say previously on this is a new book. No previously. [00:14:00] Speaker A: You don't get it previously. There is no previously. This is the new you. [00:14:03] Speaker B: Yeah, new you. [00:14:07] Speaker A: Not the old you. [00:14:08] Speaker B: No. But yeah. So just getting in it, we got outside a lot. Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan. My mouth does not work today. [00:14:20] Speaker A: Where in the world is that? [00:14:22] Speaker B: Boo. Somewhere where karma in San Diego has been, I'm sure. [00:14:27] Speaker A: Is it real? I'm sure it's real. That'd be hilarious if it was a fictional place and we didn't even know. [00:14:33] Speaker B: It's over by Georgia, okay. Georgia the country, not the state. [00:14:42] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:14:43] Speaker B: I get. I get so confused because I remember when getting political here when Russia invaded Georgia, I was like, why is this not such a big deal? It's fucking next to Florida. [00:14:55] Speaker A: Georgia. Yeah. What's going on? [00:14:58] Speaker B: Oh, no. And so. But now, a lot of times when people talk about Georgia, the state, I'm like, but that's like, all the way fucking across the world. What are you talking about? [00:15:05] Speaker A: Oh, that Georgia. [00:15:08] Speaker B: You mean hot lanta. Okay. [00:15:12] Speaker A: So, yeah, we're just outside Alat. [00:15:14] Speaker B: Azerbaijan in the year 2107. [00:15:19] Speaker A: And just like, going on the water, you got the spec ops team. [00:15:24] Speaker B: Spec ops team, yeah. And, ooh, this water is dirty, Johnny. Look at all that trash. [00:15:29] Speaker A: Yeah, look at all that. [00:15:32] Speaker B: I guess, Johnny, we could have just read this first little bit of narration and found out where Azerbaijan is very quickly. The media called it the conflict in the Caucasus. That's because no one really wanted to say what or wanted to say what it really was. World war. So up in those caucus mountains, Johnny, that's where they're hanging out, doing stuff up there. [00:15:56] Speaker A: Oh, duh. Yeah, that's what that means. Sorry, I'm not a good geography person. [00:16:02] Speaker B: Did you accidentally think it meant, like, caucus races a lot? [00:16:06] Speaker A: I didn't know what the fuck. I didn't know what the fuck it meant. [00:16:09] Speaker B: Oh, man. We're gonna. We're gonna learn ourselves a little bit of geography here, Johnny. Even if it's future geography, that's fine with me. [00:16:17] Speaker A: I need to. [00:16:18] Speaker B: But. So we learned that there's a united coalition of nations, which I guess isn't a new world government because it implies that there's other nations, another coalition. But this UCN has a series of very highly trained, specialized military ops teams that they use for secret missions. So that's what we're starting with, Johnny. It's the old military man becomes the spawn, it seems. [00:16:59] Speaker A: Yes, a very tale. As old as time. [00:17:01] Speaker B: Very familiar. [00:17:02] Speaker A: It echoes. It rhymes. [00:17:03] Speaker B: Yes. That's about how old it is, Johnny. It's as old as rhyme. [00:17:09] Speaker A: Yeah. Swan is old as rhyme. [00:17:11] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:17:11] Speaker A: He's an antique. [00:17:13] Speaker B: Officially. Officially, yeah. So we learned two names of these people right off the bat. We got Peter and Rhys, and so we know we gotta pay attention to Peter and Rhys because if they name them, we gotta pay attention. So two members. [00:17:34] Speaker A: He has a really cool, like, grappling hook thingy that you, like, shoot out of your. [00:17:37] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Like it's like a. Like a ring grappling hook. Yeah, I like. I like the little. Cause a lot of people would just be like, oh, yeah. All the hardware is just in the. Just in the glove, but, like, you could see the spool, like, right next to. To his hand, which is a great little detail. [00:17:57] Speaker A: Yeah, that's pretty cool. They climb. Climb over the wall. They get into this, like, compound. [00:18:02] Speaker B: Yes. I like how it is. 100 years in the future, and they're still using the Desert Storm era humvees everywhere. [00:18:13] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:18:15] Speaker B: I mean, I guess it's the perfect military vehicle for that region of the world, Johnny. [00:18:20] Speaker A: You got used to it. The conflict of the Caucasus. [00:18:23] Speaker B: Yeah. So they're flying over this, or they're flinging themselves over this wall, and then they're. They're like, doing hand signals to get around. They see what looks like a future teen talking on the phone with his brother. [00:18:42] Speaker A: Yep yep, yep, yep. [00:18:45] Speaker B: Talking about a failed, a failed, tried, failed meat. I would say failed meet cute, but we don't know very much about it, so I don't know if we can classify it as a meet cute or not. [00:18:59] Speaker A: He didn't even know their name. [00:19:00] Speaker B: Didn't even know their name. So, you know, womp. Womp. Apparently. Apparently teenagers in the future are still unlucky in that regard, Johnny. Some things remain the same, don't they? [00:19:15] Speaker A: Halo's oldest time, as we said, Taylor's oldest time. [00:19:21] Speaker B: And this guy fit in. He notices just like, there's a whole bunch of fucking military guys here now. And he's just like, ah. And one of them just screams, we've been made commander. And their. Their commander's like, fucking shushed. Quiet. [00:19:41] Speaker A: Be quiet. [00:19:42] Speaker B: Yeah, there's been some narration about how every team has that one person who just really wants to be there to fuck stuff up. It's a cool little superhero grouping of poses they got going on there. [00:19:56] Speaker A: Yes. Very kind of like early image looking. [00:19:59] Speaker B: Yeah, they got inspired by big shoulder pads. The commander has headband. What. What are those? It's like. What was it? Starshatter? Is that who it is who has like the. He's just got like a puffy, like, karate practice mask on and it's like, oh, yeah. What is that? [00:20:23] Speaker A: Why, that is Starshatter. Yeah, that's fine. [00:20:26] Speaker B: Nineties, dude. We've got the commander there trying to, you know, work through this situation as cleanly as possible. But we got the dude who just wants to cause havoc. Just shoots this guy right in the head. I know, Johnny, there's a lot of getting shot in the head in this book. Jesus. [00:20:44] Speaker A: Yeah, it's like SEAL team six up in here. [00:20:46] Speaker B: Yeah. And then, you know, Peter. Peter. Our protagonists, our moral compass. Yeah, it was like Becker was just a kid. So Becker is this guy who. [00:21:00] Speaker A: Clearly a fucking psycho. [00:21:01] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Apparently not the lovable old curmudgeon doctor. [00:21:06] Speaker A: Becker, as Becker is. No, no, Ted Danson. [00:21:10] Speaker B: He's not gonna. He's not just gonna take the piss out of people in a dilapidated cafe up in the Bronx. No, no, no. He's gonna shoot the kill. [00:21:19] Speaker A: He's just shoots you in the head. [00:21:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:21] Speaker A: Even if you're just a kid. [00:21:22] Speaker B: Yeah. And this guy Becker is also just a fatalist. He's like, they were all dead anyway. They just don't know it yet. Like, Jesus. [00:21:31] Speaker A: He calls him a grape made up. [00:21:33] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:21:35] Speaker A: Siglifa. Siglifath, you filthy sigliffath. There might be a. Maybe it's a. It's a word in the language of Aziri. [00:21:47] Speaker B: I don't know. Well, it's. I don't know. It's not in the brackets. Like, translated from Aziri is very. [00:21:55] Speaker A: Yeah, it's true. [00:21:55] Speaker B: But I mean, it might be. It might be like a spanglish word, only it is aziri ish word. [00:22:00] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:22:01] Speaker B: Smash together. That's one of the things I like about Sci-Fi is getting to learn their new curse words. Oh, always fun. Basically the same intent behind all our regular words. They sound a lot like our regular words, but the tv people won't bleep it out on air. [00:22:22] Speaker A: Dank ferric. [00:22:23] Speaker B: Dank ferric. Like, that's Star Wars. Battlestar Galactica had frack instead of fuck, right? So everything's no fracking way. You know, it fits. It's got the, it's got all the things you need. Um, but so they take a bit longer than they absolutely should have to step on this actively transmitting communicator that the fit in child was, was talking to his brother on. Um, so. Oh, whoops. But then they, they sneak in. They're like, there. We got to do a silent extraction from this point on, codenames only on the communications. And, you know, if it moves, it dies, basically. Thresh casualties are approved. So they, they get in and they split up and they take over. You know, they, they sculch some hired goons with some really cool sunglasses. Cyberpunk has excellent sunglasses, Johnny. [00:23:26] Speaker A: Oh, always. [00:23:26] Speaker B: Yeah, look at that guy. [00:23:30] Speaker A: Pretty awesome. [00:23:32] Speaker B: They take out another child who's walking around with his fucking metaverse screen on. [00:23:42] Speaker A: He's more of a young adult with that goatee. Come on. Child. You said a child child. [00:23:52] Speaker B: Well, Johnny, maybe he's childish in his mind. I don't know. But anyway, he gets, he gets got. And then they, the team comes to another big, big door, and they put a little, they put a little charge on it so they can blow the lock. And they come in on big boss man just like, hanging out naked in his bedroom. Which, if you're a big boss man, that's your prerogative to sit around naked in your bedroom. Bedroom. Why not? [00:24:22] Speaker A: Yeah, why not watch some cool. He's watching some cool, like, anime show. [00:24:26] Speaker B: Yeah. And he's got, like, like a stock report going on, on his. So he's like, getting work done, but, you know, from the comfort of his sheets. He's got a bag full of snacks next to him. That's pretty great. [00:24:40] Speaker A: Sounds like he's doing well. Yeah, yeah. David, special note on both these issues. The bottom half is completely soaked on both of them because I got caught in the rain last night. [00:24:50] Speaker B: Oh, no. [00:24:51] Speaker A: And then, like, the bottom of my bag got a little wet. [00:24:54] Speaker B: Oh, boy. Oh, that's rough. Yeah, it rained massively yesterday. [00:25:00] Speaker A: Yeah, it did. I got caught and I got caught in one of them. [00:25:04] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:25:05] Speaker A: One of them I did not get caught in. I was luckily inside. [00:25:08] Speaker B: Nice. [00:25:09] Speaker A: One of them. I was walking down the street and just got. There are two big downpours in Logan Square yesterday. [00:25:14] Speaker B: Oh, man. Yeah, there were like, every time somebody I worked with left the building, there was a downpour. It was hilarious. [00:25:20] Speaker A: And they're like, no, why must it happen? [00:25:23] Speaker B: They were like, I could sneak out now and then, and then, like, they'd leave, and then 30 seconds later, there would be a downpour, and it was like, I bet they would regret their decision immediately, which is to say, this. [00:25:35] Speaker A: Is probably gonna fall apart by the end of this episode, so I might have to buy that second printing that's coming out. [00:25:39] Speaker B: Oh. Oh, no. Oh. [00:25:42] Speaker A: Oh. So sad. [00:25:43] Speaker B: Worst. The worst possible fate to befall. [00:25:46] Speaker A: Cause this is just gonna, like. It's gonna fall apart. It's really. It's really wet. [00:25:51] Speaker B: It's really. It's really, uh. It's. Ugh. Now. Now I have a tactile sensation of wet paper, and it's making. [00:26:00] Speaker A: It's never fun. [00:26:01] Speaker B: It's making me feel gross over here, Johnny. [00:26:03] Speaker A: It makes me, like, nervous of, like, white paper. So I'm gonna rip it. [00:26:06] Speaker B: Well, but if you. If it. I mean, if it falls apart, that automatically gives it more stars. So. [00:26:12] Speaker A: That's true, because I loved it too much. [00:26:16] Speaker B: You should have come up with a better. A better. I was like, you know, you spilled your. You spilled your soup on it or something instead of something. [00:26:24] Speaker A: No, he spilled his soup on me. So much rain. I was soaked. Completely soaked. [00:26:31] Speaker B: Saying God was bowling. And he knocked over his pitcher of beer and was like, oh, shit, I hope that doesn't do it, basically. So they've got a little scanner to try to do a facial recognition scan to see if this is their target. And I like how kind of throwbacky the facial recognition scan grid is. It looks like a cyberpunk comic panel from, like, 1993. It's great. [00:27:00] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:27:03] Speaker B: I don't know if I've said it yet so far, Johnny, but this D. Carlos art is phenomenal. It is giving me life, as they say. And, you know, while Toro one is scanning. Scanning this guy's face, Becker's just like, eh, fuck it. It's him. And shoots. [00:27:23] Speaker A: Shoots big boss in the head. Right in the head. [00:27:27] Speaker B: And the, you know, tora one's like, the scan wasn't done. He's like. It was him. And the scanner's like, possible match. [00:27:36] Speaker A: Toro one just doesn't have time. [00:27:37] Speaker B: He's a. He isn't or not. [00:27:39] Speaker A: Toro one. Becker. Becker don't have time. [00:27:41] Speaker B: Yeah, ain't nobody got time for that. So then they, you know, they're communicating, saying, hey, hey, we got him. And Peter's like, okay, all right, awesome. Bring him with you. And Becker's like, nope. No can do. [00:27:54] Speaker A: We killed him. [00:27:56] Speaker B: And then command comes through and is like, scorched earth. Scorched earth. Scorched earth. So. [00:28:03] Speaker A: And then she spawn, redeemer and medieval show up, and they go, scorched earth. Did someone say scorched? [00:28:13] Speaker B: I bet Mark would thrive in this. Not this particular environment, but the cyberpunk environment. I bet Mark would thrive. He would be like, is it? He would be like, the king. [00:28:24] Speaker A: So now I'm confused, because I started watching fallout show, which is good. I watched the first four episodes, but then I started playing one of the old games. So I can't remember if this is one of the old games or the show, but there's someone called the scorch. Was that in the show? [00:28:37] Speaker B: The scorched? [00:28:37] Speaker A: That was probably in the game. [00:28:40] Speaker B: Yeah, I think that was in the game. [00:28:42] Speaker A: You would have remembered it. You would have been like, Johnny. [00:28:44] Speaker B: No, because they referred to the waste a lot. But that's just, you know, the wasteland. So I do not remember a reference to scorched. And. [00:28:53] Speaker A: Okay, that's got to be in the game. I started playing new Vegas again. It's really fun. [00:28:57] Speaker B: Nice. Nice. [00:28:59] Speaker A: It's like a western flavored fallout. It takes place in the mojave. [00:29:02] Speaker B: Nice. Fallout show is one. Walton Goggins is a gift, johnny. He is a gift to all mankind. [00:29:13] Speaker A: His name. I sort of got his name changed. [00:29:16] Speaker B: Like it was walter at one point, and now it's Walton. [00:29:19] Speaker A: Yeah, it was a mandela effect thing, I'm pretty sure. [00:29:26] Speaker B: It's just that everybody I've ever known who's said his name has thought it was walter instead of Walton. [00:29:31] Speaker A: Yeah, I think so. But it's just funny because I was like, I know that guy's name. I don't know that guy's name. [00:29:36] Speaker B: Yeah, no, that's baby billy. [00:29:37] Speaker A: Yeah, that's baby billy. [00:29:40] Speaker B: I got. I got a friend, a baby billy live at live live poster for Christmas this last year. And it. It went over a treat. [00:29:51] Speaker A: Oh, nice. [00:29:52] Speaker B: Baby billy bike bible bonkers, man. I love. Oh, uncle baby billy. But, yeah, scorched earth policy. So they. They hotwire these ancient, ancient humvees and just zoom out of there. I love. I love how low tech these side mirrors are, too, especially in the cyberpunk world. [00:30:18] Speaker A: Like, those are mandela effect. That's a big one. [00:30:21] Speaker B: Which one? [00:30:22] Speaker A: Objects and mirror may be closer than they appear. It doesn't say maybe it just says objects in mirror are closer than they appear. [00:30:28] Speaker B: Yeah, well, there's the. I think it was that meatloaf song that fucked everybody up, because there's a meatloaf song called objects and mirror maybe closer than they appear, but no, it's just objects and mirror are closer than they appear. [00:30:42] Speaker A: It said, maybe when I was a kid. [00:30:43] Speaker B: I swear to God, I spent a lot of time looking out that window, wondering what the fuck they were talking about. It definitely says are larger than they appear. [00:30:55] Speaker A: What did you say, man? [00:30:56] Speaker B: Because I tried to ask my dad, and he tried to give me a non physics based answer, and it just confused both of us. And then he tried to give me the actual physics based answer, and I was just like, I have no idea what that means. Let me tell you, mirror imaging is where most of the physical sciences loses me. I, uh. I just can't follow it. It doesn't. It doesn't fit in my brain. Johnny. [00:31:25] Speaker A: Mirrors, how do they work? [00:31:28] Speaker B: Same way as magnets do, Johnny. I guess. [00:31:32] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. [00:31:34] Speaker B: So they're. They're driving down this highway, away from this burning, burning mansion, I guess we. [00:31:41] Speaker A: Could call it looking for adventure and whatever comes their way. [00:31:45] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly. And they get shroomed by these giant laser cannons that have laser cannon, like, laser Gatling. They have, like. Like homing lasers. Like, look at this. It fucking curves around to hit this one Humvee. [00:31:59] Speaker A: Yeah, no, it does. Like a swoosh. [00:32:01] Speaker B: Yeah, we get a great explosion and then a close up on Peter's face, just in anguish. Jesus Christ. [00:32:09] Speaker A: In agony. Yeah. Oof. [00:32:11] Speaker B: Oh, um, I'd love to. I'd love to hear Immanuel Kant's reasoning for why this isn't an effective, effective reliance of emotion here. Johnny who? Immanuel Kant. He was a philosopher, but he famously, in talking about one particular statue, I don't remember which one it is, he says that the emotion is conveyed much more strongly in the fact that he is depicted in the moments before he is actually emoting his strongest. Because if he is emoting his strongest all the time, that that then reduces the effectiveness of that strong emotion. So if you want to get a strong emotion across, you have to depict it in the moments leading up to the full expression of that emotion, and that makes it stronger. But, no, I think this fucking full expression of emotion right here is way more effective. Thank you very much, Immanuel Kant. So Peter is trapped beneath this flaming Humvee. Oh, boy, what a terrible place to be. And he's like, rhys, rhys, rhys, I need help. And Rhys comes over, tries to push the humvee off of Peter, and just like, can you imagine touching something so hot it sets your hands on fire? [00:33:37] Speaker A: Um, no, it sounds awful. [00:33:39] Speaker B: Like, there's. There's a bathroom at work that something is broken with it and it just puts pure hot water on it. And like, like 3 seconds of that is just like, ah, for like five. The five minutes afterwards, I can't imagine actually having my hands on fire. That has to suck real bad. [00:33:59] Speaker A: It's a very mustafar looking imagery here. [00:34:02] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:34:04] Speaker A: As we record the day before Star wars day. [00:34:07] Speaker B: Yeah, indeed. Well, I mean, and keeping kind of with Mustafari and peoples Johnny, we got a whole bunch of people getting artificial limbs here exactly six months later at Pharmatech solution headquarters in New York City. [00:34:23] Speaker A: New York City. [00:34:28] Speaker B: You know what I never liked? Paste picante sauce. It's always been garbage. [00:34:33] Speaker A: Yeah. I don't know. It's okay. [00:34:36] Speaker B: It's like they threw some vegetables and tomato soup. [00:34:40] Speaker A: Yeah, that's a good way to put it. [00:34:42] Speaker B: It's not good, but, yeah. So we got a whole bunch of, whole bunch of people minus limbs going on over here. We got Doctor fornius Bose, chief science officer, talking about, you know, what's gonna, what's gonna happen. The government's paying them to develop these state of the art prosthetics. And, hey, guess what? As veterans who lost their, their limbs in a war, you're gonna get some faked body parts. He goes over, talks to first Lieutenant Peter Cairn, and he looks at his little pad. This is the reference that I was talking to about the second printing. [00:35:22] Speaker A: Yes, it looks like that pad. [00:35:23] Speaker B: Yeah. So it's got, it's got, you know, Peter's headshot. It's got, you know, like an EKG squiggle. It's got some things. It's got, like, a nice little outline of his skeleton and what exactly is wrong with it? And, boy, they didn't, they didn't even just chop this off at the knees. It was just like, mid femur. Mid femur. Oh, and he asks a wonderful question. Are you ready to walk again, Peter? He says, yes, sir. I'll do whatever it takes. Then, you know, doctor Bose is like, I'm gonna do this surgery myself. He's looking a little overt killy there. [00:36:04] Speaker A: He doesn't look a little like overkill. [00:36:06] Speaker B: These nurses with their, their helmets are pretty dope, too. [00:36:12] Speaker A: He gets, like, this great page of him just, like, spread out. [00:36:15] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:36:16] Speaker A: This is like a back to tank or. I don't know what it is. [00:36:19] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know, but it's. It's. It's whatever. The. The surgery. The surgery suite is the operator, it's. [00:36:26] Speaker A: Got, like, the drain. I love that detail. [00:36:29] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. It's just got, like a whole bunch of close ups of sharp, pointy things going into other things that aren't sharp or pointy and oftentimes leaking, and it's just, oh, it's intense. [00:36:48] Speaker A: Nanites are gonna integrate within the hour, says doctor Bose. [00:36:53] Speaker B: Yeah, understood, doctor Bose. Ah. Oh, no. Just spilled my coffee on myself. [00:36:59] Speaker A: Oh, no. [00:37:01] Speaker B: It's like the fourth time I've done that this morning. Geez. I am not coordinated. And then we cut to three months later where we got, you know, obviously the guy who was laying next to Peter in that, that first pts scene with his, his jack's arms. Yeah, it's like, it's like he was Axel and had been removed from the wheels, just lifting an impossible amount of weight. Look at that. Yeah. And jacks. Yeah. [00:37:35] Speaker A: I was at the dentist the other day and they put on mortal Kombat because. [00:37:39] Speaker B: Just. Just because. Which one, the original one or the new one? [00:37:42] Speaker A: The new one. They're like, you like this? I'm like, sure. Because they just, like, put stuff on the tv. [00:37:46] Speaker B: Okay, this is the same dentist that also had Spider man that one time. [00:37:50] Speaker A: You went, yeah, but I actually chose Spider man this time. I just sat down and they were playing mortal Kombat, and I was like. [00:37:56] Speaker B: Okay, it was, it was fine. It was a fine film. I mean, yeah, it was fun. It wasn't like a great, a great masterpiece, but it was a fun little beat em ups. And then Peter's like, hey, why are you taking Max? And the orderly is just like, focus on your own recovery, Peter. And this guy's got, oh, boy, this guy's got the craziest mouth. Speaking of dentists, Johnny, he's, like, missing. He's, like, missing his lower lip. And so he's got. [00:38:24] Speaker A: He's lucky, though. Like, you should just do that. They should just, once you lose all your baby teeth, they should just put, like, metal teeth in everyone's mouth. So you have to deal with fucking. Because you know what, David? Dental pain sucks. [00:38:34] Speaker B: But they know they didn't replace his teeth because you see he's got the bottom row of teeth behind the metal thing. So it's just like, it's just like, he has a metal lip. [00:38:44] Speaker A: That's weird. You're right. Well, they should replace people's teeth. [00:38:49] Speaker B: Yeah, they should. We should. We should just be walking around, like, jaws all the time. Time. Yeah. [00:38:53] Speaker A: With cyberpunk teeth. Because no one having teeth pain, you don't have to deal with, like, fucking expensive dental shit. [00:38:58] Speaker B: Oh, Jesus. Dental shit is so expensive. And if you're over the age of like twelve. Insurance covers fucking nothing. [00:39:05] Speaker A: Yeah, they're like, they're like, oh yeah, here's dollar 20 off. Like, you're like, thanks a lot. They cover your cleaning every year. [00:39:12] Speaker B: That's about every six months. Sometimes they only cover one cleaning a year and then they still recommend that you do two. And it's like, come, come, come the fuck out. [00:39:21] Speaker A: Come on, guys. [00:39:22] Speaker B: What are you doing? [00:39:23] Speaker A: What am I paying you for? Fuck. Dental shit. Yeah, yeah, but not as bad as having lost your legs and having to get. [00:39:34] Speaker B: Yeah, and he's on, he's on what looks like the flash's cosmic treadmill here. He looks like he's trying to time travel by running super fast. [00:39:45] Speaker A: Yeah, they're basically like, he's like doing a really good job, it seems like, but they're just like, they're over there. [00:39:52] Speaker B: Like, I don't know, the standards are, the standards are impossible to meet. [00:39:57] Speaker A: Impossibly high in this, you know, Doctor booze or Bose or his fucking name is, I call him booze. He's probably drinking, he's probably drinking like. [00:40:05] Speaker B: Drinking on the job, drinking like Becker. [00:40:08] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. [00:40:11] Speaker B: And then, and then, you know, doctor Bose reviews his charts and then we get to see what happens in those individual one on one meetings with these veterans with their new bits after they meet with Doctor Bose personally in his office. And they get the boot and they get given the just be glad you get to keep this state of the art equipment kind of nonsense. Like it's you, like you're literally kicking me out of the program. You don't need to continue to neg me, sir. [00:40:46] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:40:46] Speaker B: And so then we cut to 20, 111, which paying attention four years after the Azerbaijan initial incident incidents. And then, you know, three years and three months after he gets booted out of, booted out of the program. So he's been, he's been spending some time, you know, trying to take care of his life. [00:41:11] Speaker A: He's found some work. Looks like he's like a maintenance guy. [00:41:14] Speaker B: Yeah. We get a repetition of the original mission team's sort of motto, adapt or die. We get the sad fact of that happens with a lot of vets. A lot of them simply cannot make it for one reason or another. That fucking sucks. So, yeah, but if you're ever, you. [00:41:42] Speaker A: Know, if anyone's ever feeling down or feeling like you got no way out. [00:41:46] Speaker B: Or no choice, remember to call, call or text. You can call or text. 988, 988. Just somebody to talk to. [00:41:54] Speaker A: Somebody to talk to because, you know, suicide is a terrible, terrible thing. [00:41:59] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. It's no good. It it doesn't. It doesn't make the pain go away. It just spreads it out. Um, the world is better with you in it. We promise you. Take it. Take it from us. Some strangers on the Internet, right? But all joking aside, yes, the world is better with you. [00:42:19] Speaker A: So Peter perseveres, and he gets a job, and he's working and, like, plumbing for, like, this. I imagine he's working for, like, the city. Yeah, it seems like. [00:42:26] Speaker B: I like how this hole. This hole just looks like it was a sinkhole that opened up. [00:42:31] Speaker A: Yeah. It was just like. It's just. Well, you imagine, like, a cyberpunk city. It's always raining. [00:42:36] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:42:37] Speaker A: So you imagine there's just, like, random sinkholes. It's just always raining in the cyberpunk city. Cause it's so oppressive. [00:42:41] Speaker B: I always. I also always imagined that a cyberpunk city. Occasionally, one of the sinkholes will reveal a pristine street from LA in the nineties. They have built over, encased it in glass so you can be eating your high class taco bell meal and look at what the street would look like 120 years ago. Demolition man. Good film. [00:43:07] Speaker A: A good cyberpunk film. [00:43:09] Speaker B: It's excellent, excellent. One of my speaking. Speaking of swears in the future, Johnny. [00:43:14] Speaker A: Yeah. Toilet paper machine. [00:43:17] Speaker B: Toilet paper is banned, but they still, uh, paper citations for foul language. [00:43:24] Speaker A: So there you go. [00:43:25] Speaker B: Oh, boy. I don't think that movie was appreciated as much in its time. [00:43:31] Speaker A: I appreciated it in its time. I loved it. I was, like, the right age. [00:43:35] Speaker B: It's fucking great. I mean, it's it's beautiful. It, uh. The. The conception of Sylvester Stallone is that he's just a big lunkhead who doesn't think about stuff. But, like, Sylvester Stallone, the man spends a lot of time thinking about shit that it's just like, why? Why would you even worry about that? Just go punch somebody. And he's like, nah, what's the point? So it's. It gets. It got to show people his. His sort of wry sense of humor. And I think it kind of escaped a lot of people because they're like, he's just supposed to be a big dummy. He's not. He's not a big dummy. [00:44:12] Speaker A: Yeah, it's great. And you got. Dennis Leary is like a rat man living down the sewer. [00:44:18] Speaker B: You got Sandy B. Being his daughter. [00:44:23] Speaker A: She's not his daughter. [00:44:24] Speaker B: She's not his daughter. [00:44:24] Speaker A: I thought she was Sandra Bullock. Yeah, they have sex. [00:44:27] Speaker B: No. I thought they were related somehow. [00:44:29] Speaker A: No, no, okay. Oh, God. [00:44:33] Speaker B: I think I might have fallen for a joke that the blockbuster film school was making. [00:44:40] Speaker A: Oh, really? [00:44:41] Speaker B: At some point, who knows? [00:44:44] Speaker A: Who knows? No, but they're. They're not. I don't think they're related to that movie. That'd be too weird. [00:44:48] Speaker B: Yeah, very weird. Speaking of Johnny, apparently with the rise of these genealogical DNA tests for making family trees, they are discovering that people give it away for adoption because they were conceived via. Via incest is way more prevalent than anybody ever thought. So that's a. Wow, that's something. That's something. Oh, boy. [00:45:22] Speaker A: Well, good to know. [00:45:23] Speaker B: Oh, boy. Yeah, oh, boy. Fun to see those recessive genes popping up in the health world, I guess. But anyway, back to what, a tangent. Back to Peter at the bottom of this hole. Just like, you know, toiling away. He's being told not to think. Just do the job. And he's like, can I at least get some water? It's hot. It's hot as hell down here. It's hot as hell, Johnny. Hot as hell. [00:45:50] Speaker A: Hot as hell. Interesting. [00:45:58] Speaker B: But then, you know, some stuff starts popping off up at the top of the hole. And Peter's just like, what's going on, Jimmy? Jimmy, what's going on? Uh, I like that. [00:46:07] Speaker A: It's better not be a prank. [00:46:10] Speaker B: He pops his head over the. The top, and then we cut to another time, in another place. [00:46:16] Speaker A: Johnny, we know this. This is in, like, issue three. Something. 300. [00:46:21] Speaker B: 300, yeah, yeah, 300. And we see a body, a skeletal body. And then the narration of when Al Simmons succeeded in the necroplasic, necroplasmic detonation in 2019, it not only affected his reality, it affected all realities. [00:46:42] Speaker A: Cthulhu, that is. [00:46:43] Speaker B: That is a massive. A massive arch in c'thoum. It's great. [00:46:47] Speaker A: I love this page. It's cool. Like just a little quick cutaway to something in, like, a cool, gnarly skeleton. [00:46:53] Speaker B: Yeah, that is a really gnarly skeleton. Those are some sharp ass teeth in that skeleton. [00:46:58] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:46:59] Speaker B: But then, you know, we're back in the. The 20 111 world, and there's just green fire rumbling through the city and people are running away for their lives. And Peter's still struggling to get out. [00:47:13] Speaker A: Like a really, like, kind of like junky looking robot arm. [00:47:17] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, that's pretty cool. Just like a utilitarian. He got it off a. He got it off of aliexpress. [00:47:24] Speaker A: Yes. [00:47:27] Speaker B: And, you know, Peter's. Peter's almost out of the hole, and then his legs lock up on him and he's, you know, like, trying to fingernail his way out of the hole. And then there's another. Another big boom. And it almost throws him back into the pit. He almost goes from the pinnacle to the pit there. Johnny. [00:47:50] Speaker A: Almost. It's a long way down. [00:47:52] Speaker B: Yeah, it is. [00:47:53] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. We didn't talk about it. There's a ghost movie. [00:47:55] Speaker B: Oh, yeah? Yeah. Right here, right now. Two days only. June 20 and June 22. And they got popcorn buckets, Johnny. [00:48:02] Speaker A: Oh, wow. [00:48:03] Speaker B: Really? Yeah. [00:48:04] Speaker A: I gotta get tickets. [00:48:05] Speaker B: Yeah, we do. [00:48:07] Speaker A: What days of the week is that? [00:48:08] Speaker B: It's a Thursday into Saturday. [00:48:11] Speaker A: Okay. I might have to get that Thursday off, try to figure it out. [00:48:17] Speaker B: Yeah. Very exciting. The trailer will have already dropped by the time this episode comes out. But the 9th. The 9th is when the trailer comes out. [00:48:27] Speaker A: Sweet. Can't wait. [00:48:28] Speaker B: Yeah. And then, you know, some jerk fucking steps on Peter's wrist there. [00:48:34] Speaker A: I don't think he needs to. [00:48:37] Speaker B: Kicks a. Kicks a rock in his face. [00:48:39] Speaker A: And then all the commotion. [00:48:41] Speaker B: This is where he falls down back into the. He fell in at the pit. And then we flash to pts headquarters, and all the. All the current vets with their. Their new prosthetics, they're just going crazy. And, like, the prosthetics are exploding, and there's, like. There's, like, sparks falling down from the ceiling, and everybody's like. It is full power. Excellent. It's kind of like the being on the bridge during a battle sequence in a Sci-Fi. A sci-fi sci-fi drama. It's like the enterprise where everybody's, like, rocking around. [00:49:22] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:49:25] Speaker B: And then we cut back down to Peter at the bottom of the pit. The blackout took everyone by surprise, Johnny. And government agencies would study its effect for decades. You can tell here that there's no additional script by Todd McFarlane. Cause it would have been specific number of years. Decades, yes. And poor Peter was stuck in a damn hole, John. His ladder is broken. His phone is dead. It's good to know that, you know, phones are so easily killed in the future as they are now. [00:49:59] Speaker A: As they are now. [00:50:01] Speaker B: Bring back the Nokia brick, please. I bet if he had a Nokia brick, he would be perfectly. He would have been able to call somebody. [00:50:08] Speaker A: He would have been able to call and then play some snake while he waited to get out of the hole. [00:50:14] Speaker B: Jimmy, you still there? Anyone? He's just yelling at the bottom of this pit, and there's just people, like, stealing widescreen or flat screen tvs. [00:50:26] Speaker A: Yeah. Cyberpunk tvs. [00:50:28] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:50:29] Speaker A: He basically says, yankee one, adapt or die. [00:50:33] Speaker B: Yeah. Then he. He fucking jumps just out of the pit just the whole way. And the way Peter tells it, johnny, he looks damn cool. [00:50:43] Speaker A: He does look damn cool. [00:50:44] Speaker B: Look at that. He. He lands in the. He lands in the. The black widow pose that. That Francis Pugh makes. Florence Pugh makes so much fun of in the black Widow movie, right? And then we get a change in colorists because it. It becomes very cartoony here. And I love. I love this. This change in sort of the colors from the dark desperateness of Peter being stuck in this pit to just, like, the goofiness of these looters just running around causing havoc. And Peter's just like, what the f. I'm just trying to get home, you guys. [00:51:22] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:51:24] Speaker B: They'Re like, don't be stealing our loot. And he's like, jack, what you want, man? I just want a shower. [00:51:30] Speaker A: Yeah, it was funny reading that, because I don't. I kept reading. I don't give a shit, Jack. Like, call it comma. Yeah, I don't give a shit, Jack, what you want. [00:51:44] Speaker B: But, like, like, three or four people are like, man, no, stop trying to steal our shit. And he's just like, I'm just walking. He's like, I'm walking here. Yeah. But somebody's always looking for its fight, Johnny, as we learned, and also, as we know, once a soldier, always a soldier. So Peter's soldier ness kicks in, and he's just punching people. Somebody comes at him with the Negan. He just holds onto it. Like, he stops it. And the guy who swung it was like, oh, shit. Oh, shit. [00:52:22] Speaker A: And he's just like, says he's a soldier, but this was something else. Like, he's just being super powerful something. And he says, I'm going home. And he screams, home. And what is that? [00:52:32] Speaker B: What? I don't know. [00:52:33] Speaker A: What is that on home? [00:52:34] Speaker B: What is that on home? Johnny. Johnny. [00:52:37] Speaker A: It's the spawn bubble. [00:52:38] Speaker B: The spawn bubble. He's got the green eyes. [00:52:40] Speaker A: Sorry, the green eyes. The spawn comes out. [00:52:42] Speaker B: I was singing corn there. Sorry, Johnny. [00:52:44] Speaker A: Yeah, that's okay. I was just trying to ignore it. [00:52:51] Speaker B: You can't. You can't ignore it, Johnny. But, yeah, yeah, he just, like, lets some spawn out, you know, through his eyes, through his actions, through his words. I bet. I bet he sounded very Keith David when he did this, too. [00:53:07] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:53:08] Speaker B: And then he's exhausted, like, what was that? Oh. Ah, yeah. Very nice. I loved that little touch. Just. That's literally one of the Al Simmons teases we get here, because especially in this new you that we've got spawn in king Spawn and main title doesn't have this. Doesn't have his bubbles anymore, Johnny. He's got just regular ass bubbles. So seeing this, seeing this pop up here, I was. I was like, whoo. When I read it the first time, it was great. [00:53:48] Speaker A: I liked it a lot. It's a cool reveal or a cool way to, like, tease it. [00:53:51] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:53:55] Speaker A: And so computer goes back home to Rat City on the Bowery. [00:53:58] Speaker B: Rat city on the Bowery. That makes it sound quite beautiful. It's like, it's like Stratford upon Avon, Johnny. [00:54:07] Speaker A: Yes. [00:54:10] Speaker B: Yeah. So potentially this rat city is built upon the old Red alley. Bowery Alley, maybe. [00:54:20] Speaker A: The Bowery alley, maybe. [00:54:23] Speaker B: And then, so apparently even in cyberpunk future, that there are still sections of New York that are still just garbage pits. [00:54:33] Speaker A: Yes. I mean, that's kind of the cyberpunk 2077, 5th element. I mean, that's kind of a common thing to have. The shitty little weird apartment. [00:54:43] Speaker B: Fucking Blade runner. [00:54:44] Speaker A: Blade runner. Yeah, he's the shitty little weird apartment. It's like what you do in that. [00:54:48] Speaker B: Whole, like, abandoned warehouse where he. Where he follows the replicants up to where he fights them, like, with the staircase. Oh, beautiful. Like tears in the rain, Johnny. Tears and rain tale as old as time again. Haves and haves nots. Peter's just glad that the electricity worked enough that his door would open so he didn't have to. Didn't have to deal with the super, which I can only imagine. A cyberpunk super is probably one of the worst things in the world, and. [00:55:20] Speaker A: Some things never change. He's looking for his phone charger. Yeah, we all can relate to. [00:55:24] Speaker B: Yeah. But. But they have brought back the voicemail or the. The answering machine. And he's got a new message from Owen Reese. [00:55:35] Speaker A: And he's like, Owen? [00:55:37] Speaker B: He's like, ah, motherfucking Uncle Owen. Just drink your blue milk. Go farm that voice. [00:55:44] Speaker A: Leave me alone. Owen's got his metal hands. [00:55:49] Speaker B: Yeah. So that way we know it was him. And he's like, we burned up. He's like, I got some things I got to talk to you about, but I can't leave messages here. So some in intrigue, and Peter's just like, I ain't got no time for this. [00:56:06] Speaker A: And that's what you find out, that him and Rheus Rhys were the only two survivors of the attack. [00:56:12] Speaker B: And the attack back in, presumably this little medallion that it focuses in on is sort of the 2107 equivalent of Purple Heart. [00:56:24] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what I was assuming too. [00:56:26] Speaker B: I do like, how his window has a whole bunch of random stickers on it. [00:56:31] Speaker A: That is cool. [00:56:32] Speaker B: So nice detail. Yeah, that's a little fun. It's a little pineapple stickler. [00:56:40] Speaker A: And then he trying to take his legs off, but they won't come off. Yeah, got a nice detail. He's got, like, a comic book on the ground or magazine. [00:56:49] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. And just, like, his dirty clothes. Just because, I mean, a studio, a studio apartment in the cyberpunk universe has to be one of the most depressing things. [00:57:01] Speaker A: Yeah. No windows. Well, I guess he doesn't have windows. [00:57:03] Speaker B: He does have windows. [00:57:04] Speaker A: He does have a window. Usually. You wouldn't have a window. [00:57:06] Speaker B: Yeah, no. And, you know, while he's having trouble with his legs, he's got, like, his hands all go, necroplasmy, Johnny. [00:57:16] Speaker A: Yep. [00:57:17] Speaker B: And then, you know, he basically has just, like, a necroplasmic freakout right here. Like, he's fizzting and arguing and knowing. [00:57:28] Speaker A: Yeah. And we got our opening reading. [00:57:30] Speaker B: Yeah. And there's, like, a, there's, like, a spawn ghost, an Alseman spawn ghost that. [00:57:35] Speaker A: Forms in front of him just staring him down. [00:57:37] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:57:39] Speaker A: And it's just like, whoa, what the hell? [00:57:41] Speaker B: And while, while Peter's all covered in crackling green, green lightning. And then we get, we get a scorched skull to end it. Johnny, get the skull. [00:57:52] Speaker A: I guess that's the new, we got to call it the new you, skull. [00:57:55] Speaker B: New you skull. I guess. I guess. And then the spawning grounds is some artwork, some concept art, some, you know, fun little bits here. Yeah. [00:58:11] Speaker A: Pretty cool stuff. Just to see the evolution. [00:58:13] Speaker B: Some cover thumbnail sketches, some, yeah. Different, different ideas on how the thing would work. I like, I like how this from the opening up, the opening panel has, like, everybody's names pointing to them. And after reading it the first time, I was like, why didn't they keep that in there? That would have been so useful. But that makes it seem like they're all more important than they are, when really you only care about Rhys and Peter. [00:58:42] Speaker A: I mean, maybe a little bit about Becker just to know. [00:58:44] Speaker B: Just cause he's a jerk. [00:58:46] Speaker A: Because he's a jerk. Yeah, but there might be flashbacks to the group. You never know. [00:58:51] Speaker B: Yeah, but I do. I do like that they actually did forego this and went with, the only two people named on the first page are Reese and Peter. So those are the only two you need to pay attention to because that's. [00:59:02] Speaker A: You know who to pay attention to. Right. [00:59:03] Speaker B: It's almost as if there was an editorial decision behind that. And I agree with it. [00:59:09] Speaker A: Then we get a few pages of inks by Z Carlos, which are awesome. [00:59:12] Speaker B: Yeah, we got that first page. We got that. The operating room page, which. Beautiful. Even without colors. [00:59:23] Speaker A: Oh, it's great. Without the color. You really see some of the details. Even better. [00:59:25] Speaker B: It's so good. See, Carlos art. Fantastic. We get the flashback to the Al Simmons necroplasm explosion. Explosion. This one. That one definitely benefits from the colors because it's largely a sort of just color fiesta. [00:59:44] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:59:44] Speaker B: But it is exceptional work. And then the final image. Very good. [00:59:52] Speaker A: Yeah, we get the image classics ad and a World of Warcraft toy ad when we haven't had before. [00:59:58] Speaker B: Yeah, look at this, guys. Look at that orca that. [01:00:02] Speaker A: You ever play World of Warcraft? [01:00:04] Speaker B: Nope. [01:00:05] Speaker A: Me neither. [01:00:06] Speaker B: This guy, this guy with the hood and, like, the little blue dots kind of actually looks like he belongs like that. That's a helmet. That would belong in this universe, Johnny. [01:00:15] Speaker A: Oh, totally. Very much. Yeah. Cool. Yeah, that's rat city number one, baby. Nice preview of that Bajoran Barron's cover for rat city number two. Two back. [01:00:27] Speaker B: Oh, hell yeah. [01:00:27] Speaker A: Can't wait for that. [01:00:29] Speaker B: Can't wait for rest of the day number two, period. [01:00:31] Speaker A: Yeah, but that cover. [01:00:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:00:34] Speaker A: Hell yeah. It's raining. Very cyberpunk. I love it. [01:00:37] Speaker B: Yeah, it's like green rain, too. [01:00:39] Speaker A: No. After rereading this, I'm just, like, really excited to see where this goes. And it's just so cool and well written and. Yeah, the arts, amazing. [01:00:45] Speaker B: I love. I loved it the first time through and just like, fell in love with it all over again the second time through. It's just. [01:00:53] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what I felt like, too. [01:00:54] Speaker B: It's good. Well, Johnny, unfortunately we have to take a trip back from the future to the now. So we're doing the end of back to the future two, where we go from the future back to the past, but the past is now. Our presentation. Something like that. [01:01:21] Speaker A: Something like that. [01:01:21] Speaker B: Why don't you make like a tree? Get out of y. [01:01:24] Speaker A: Good old Biff Tannen. Always a fun guy. [01:01:28] Speaker B: Hey, you know, I guess. I guess it works. I guess it works. But, you know, continuing on with this little spawn tease we got going on here, Johnny, we got a. [01:01:39] Speaker A: We got a Sam and twitch case files number one. Woo woo. That's what we got here. Another new entry to the new you. [01:01:47] Speaker B: Yeah, the one of two at this point in time. Although by the end of this month, they just sent out the announcement for coming this month. We should get. We're gonna get monolith next month in June. [01:02:02] Speaker A: Yes, I have it pre ordered. [01:02:04] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, that's monolith number two. What? What? We're supposed to get monolith number one on the 15 May. Johnny, what the fuck? Yeah. [01:02:15] Speaker A: I didn't realize it was so close. I can't keep up. Where are you reading this? In that new email we got. [01:02:21] Speaker B: That Todd McFarland Productions announcement email. [01:02:26] Speaker A: Yes, I need to read that. I saw. We got. I sent it a chance to check it out. [01:02:32] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, man, there's misery. [01:02:34] Speaker A: The miseries after that. [01:02:35] Speaker B: Yeah. Misery is coming out. Misery number one is June 5. Although final cutoff date for that is May 13. So if you haven't ordered misery number one, get it done. [01:02:49] Speaker A: I mean, get on it. [01:02:50] Speaker B: It's too late now, but. [01:02:52] Speaker A: Too late now, if you're listening. Yeah, I've already ordered it. [01:02:54] Speaker B: Yeah, me too. They got a cover reveal for spawn. Kills every spawn. Number one. Okay, so that's it. That's exciting. He's on, like, a Mount Bolshe mobile. [01:03:05] Speaker A: Oh, cool. [01:03:07] Speaker B: Yeah. And that's coming out July 24. Hell, yeah. [01:03:13] Speaker A: Oh, boy. [01:03:14] Speaker B: All right, well, that's back to. Back to the new you at hand. [01:03:21] Speaker A: The new you at hand. Sorry. We're looking at the future of the new you. Gotta look at you. New you. [01:03:26] Speaker B: Yeah, we got a couple of covers with the Sam and Twitch case files. Number one. What cover do you got, Johnny? [01:03:33] Speaker A: I got cover a. The Kevin Keene cover. [01:03:36] Speaker B: I get that one too, because it's the one that has spawn on it. [01:03:40] Speaker A: Yes, exactly. [01:03:42] Speaker B: And the most forlorn looking Sam and Twitch just standing in the rain. [01:03:46] Speaker A: I know, just like, what the hell are we doing? [01:03:48] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [01:03:50] Speaker A: Sam's got his gun. [01:03:51] Speaker B: Twitch has his gun. [01:03:52] Speaker A: Twitch's got his gun. [01:03:54] Speaker B: Sam's got his hands in his. Sam's probably protecting his pocket donut from the rain is what's. [01:03:59] Speaker A: Yes, he's protecting his sandwich from the rain in his pocket, smoking a cigarette. [01:04:03] Speaker B: Yeah. And it's got spawn looming behind them. Yes, there was. [01:04:10] Speaker A: I always love it in the old series when spawn shows up. And they basically saw him get the fuck out of there in the old Sam and switch series. So hopefully that happens again. [01:04:18] Speaker B: Yeah. And then the second cover was a Todd McFarland joint. Jonny, it is. [01:04:23] Speaker A: It's awesome. I actually really like that cover too. [01:04:25] Speaker B: It's very. It's very noir. It's just black and white. And it's Sam and twitch both shooting in different directions. [01:04:32] Speaker A: I like how twitch is just. His face isn't shadow, except for the glasses. [01:04:35] Speaker B: Yeah, that's, that's classic, classic twitch for like a. I wonder if that was born out of a lot of just time saving measures. Like, he's got glasses. Just show the glasses. Everything else is black. [01:04:47] Speaker A: That's pretty cool. [01:04:48] Speaker B: Yeah, it's cool, but it doesn't have a spawn on it, and that's ultimately. [01:04:51] Speaker A: What push you to the A cover. [01:04:54] Speaker B: Yeah. Wow. I mean, it's almost as if. [01:04:57] Speaker A: So did you, did you have it pre ordered? Did they just let you choose when you pre ordered? [01:05:01] Speaker B: Oh, no, I do the pre order. I think when I pre order, they just, a cover is what they do. But then my shop always orders, like, fucking everything. So if I don't like the A cover and I prefer the B cover, I'll go switch it out real quick. [01:05:17] Speaker A: Okay, cool. [01:05:18] Speaker B: But they just automatically give me a cover. Um. [01:05:21] Speaker A: Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha. [01:05:24] Speaker B: Most, most everything. The variant cover is $2 more, and it's like, why would I, why would. [01:05:29] Speaker A: I sign up for that? [01:05:30] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, some of, some of them, it's worth it for, like those, those ones by, uh, the mark spears covers for those DC books. Those are, those are excellent. Yeah, excellent. [01:05:43] Speaker A: Well, that's the covers for Sam and switch case files. [01:05:46] Speaker B: Yes. [01:05:46] Speaker A: It's time to pop it open. [01:05:47] Speaker B: We should open this case file and read what this case is about, Johnny. [01:05:52] Speaker A: I like how it has Spawns universe and new you stamped on there. [01:05:56] Speaker B: Yeah, they'll figure it out eventually, Johnny. [01:06:00] Speaker A: They'll figure it out. [01:06:00] Speaker B: It's the HD DVD Blu ray of, yeah. [01:06:04] Speaker A: Is it gonna be Spawns universe or called the new you? We don't know. We'll find out. [01:06:08] Speaker B: New spawns universe. Spawns new. It'll be spawns new you. Yeah. So, so it's sponsored universe, the new you, then new spawns burn universe, and then spawns new universe and then new spawns new you. [01:06:21] Speaker A: New universe then eventually just gonna spawn you. Spawn university. [01:06:24] Speaker B: Spawn you, spawn you. Go hell. Spawns. [01:06:29] Speaker A: Go spawns, man. Go Todd McFarlane and write the script plot. Cause that's what he did. [01:06:35] Speaker B: Yes, he did. And he co plotted with John Goff. I every single time have read this as co pilot. [01:06:41] Speaker A: Yeah, I know. Co pilot. You're my co pilot, buddy. [01:06:48] Speaker B: It's like they're, it's like they're co hosting. Ooh. There's actually, I just realized there's a, on this, this credit page, there's a tease of issue two in the back there. [01:07:02] Speaker A: Oh, there is? [01:07:03] Speaker B: Yeah. It's literally issue two. [01:07:08] Speaker A: Secret. [01:07:09] Speaker B: Yeah. Art by Seisman Kudorensky. Is that z silent? Would it just be Simon Kudoransky? [01:07:19] Speaker A: I think it's just Simon Kudoransky. [01:07:20] Speaker B: Simon Kudoransky. Oh, man. We live it. We live in Chicago. We should be able to speak polish better. [01:07:26] Speaker A: Yeah, you really should. [01:07:27] Speaker B: Yeah. Shame on me. You know what? My favorite pierogi spot closed during COVID and I've just never recovered. [01:07:35] Speaker A: That's sad. [01:07:36] Speaker B: There's apparently one over in Bucktown, but I'm just. It's inconvenient for me because I used to. [01:07:41] Speaker A: Yeah, there's one in Bucktown that's pretty good. [01:07:42] Speaker B: Yeah, I used to. I used to eat the one. My favorite one. I used to eat it for lunch. Terrible idea. Don't eat pierogi for lunch, y'all, unless you have nothing else to do that day. [01:07:54] Speaker A: Also, take a nap. [01:07:56] Speaker B: Just skip the ones with the meat in them, the potato ones and the vegetable ones. Infinitely better than the ones with the meat in them. You're gonna be tempted because you're like, I like beef, I like chicken. I'm gonna like nowhere near as good. Pierogi talk is over. [01:08:11] Speaker A: We got color by Fco placencia and Sheila. Sheila Saldana. [01:08:15] Speaker B: Yeah, Sheila Saldana. Color flats. That's what she does. She likes to. She likes to live the color flats. I would have been better if her last name started with an e. Sorry. Lettering. Johnny. We got some lettering going on by Tom Wojciekowski. [01:08:35] Speaker A: He's back by the Tom. [01:08:36] Speaker B: Father. Some interesting lettering. Discuss when we get there. We done covered the covers, Johnny. Todd McFarland is our creative director, and Thomas Healy is the editor in chief. And once again, no previously on so. [01:08:54] Speaker A: No previously on. Because it's a number one. [01:08:56] Speaker B: Yeah, this is the coldest of cold opens. Johnny. [01:09:00] Speaker A: Boom. Just a foot running through a puddle. [01:09:03] Speaker B: Well, we. We open. We open on a moon, and then we learn that it's a puddle when a footsteps in it. [01:09:08] Speaker A: Right? Classic. [01:09:10] Speaker B: It's. It's very. It's a very horror movie opening here. Just. [01:09:14] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, guys running. [01:09:16] Speaker B: Running through the foggy, foggy night that's got puddles everywhere. He's running by some trains. He's running over like, an old, rickety bridge to, uh, the. The Kent's abandoned farmhouse. Joni. [01:09:31] Speaker A: Yeah, a farmhouse. [01:09:32] Speaker B: Yeah. Um, and he. He runs into the. Runs into the house and is just like. Got a stitch. Oh, got a stitch. Oh, that's a. That's what I imagine is going on in there. [01:09:47] Speaker A: That was a long run. [01:09:48] Speaker B: Somebody from the shadows says, did you follow the plan? And this is where we get our first of the very interesting lettering. [01:09:57] Speaker A: Yes. So this is the same lettering they did on the other Sam and Twitch series. [01:10:00] Speaker B: Okay, that's. I didn't. That. That would make sense because I have not read the other Sam and Twitch series, so I should get on that since I now have them all in that humble bundle. [01:10:11] Speaker A: Yeah, but it's the same lettering as the Samit's wish earlier miniseries, which is this kind of like, instead of a. [01:10:20] Speaker B: Bubble, it's just like the words appear over the background. [01:10:25] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:10:26] Speaker B: I do like how it. Later on, it makes like. I think bubbles would make it feel much more claustrophobic where you can see the background behind it. And it opens up the feeling a little bit. So that way, because the story is tight enough and kind of oppressive enough as it is, that I think the bubbles would have. Just taking too much. Too much out of it. [01:10:50] Speaker A: Yeah. It also just makes it seem a little more gritty. [01:10:52] Speaker B: Yeah, it does. More. Yeah. [01:10:54] Speaker A: Real. [01:10:55] Speaker B: Yeah, a little. A little more slapdash too. It seems like. Just kind of like. [01:11:00] Speaker A: Yeah, just more gritty. Yeah, exactly. [01:11:03] Speaker B: So man's asked if he followed the plan, and he said, yeah. And then shadowy man says, then why were you running? And then we get another. Lots of head trauma in these two issues, Johnny. [01:11:15] Speaker A: Headshots all over the place. [01:11:16] Speaker B: Yeah. And then we get a nice little. A little falling bullet casing here, I guess. Falling brass, if we're gonna be specific. And then a gloved hand picking it up. And then all is quiet on the abandoned farmhouse. And then we. We cut to a busy. A busy city scene with fucking Waluigi here. Talking about Waluigi. He looks like Waluigi. [01:11:45] Speaker A: He doesn't like Waluigi. He does talk about smash brothers. [01:11:48] Speaker B: No, they're talking about Mario Kart. [01:11:50] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, they're talking about Mario Kart. [01:11:52] Speaker B: Trying to. Trying to. This is. This is a sweaty. A sweaty. A sweaty insult for somebody playing Mario Kart here. Like. Like he was seriously playing peach. Princess Peach. And then I kept. I kept. I kept quoting toadsting. It's like what I feel like. I feel like Todd McFarlane, like, just played Mario Kart, was like, hmm, interesting. I'm gonna use that. [01:12:19] Speaker A: Yeah, he used. I'm the best thing. That's probably what? He probably plays toad. He probably mains toad. [01:12:23] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm. [01:12:25] Speaker A: What is this ring that's in the foreground? [01:12:27] Speaker B: So, Johnny, that is a Notre Dame national champions ring, which I think is implying that Sam Burke went to a, or a, went to Notre Dame and B, played football on a championship winning team. [01:12:39] Speaker A: There you go. [01:12:40] Speaker B: That's. [01:12:40] Speaker A: That makes sense. That's what I'm assuming that's good storytelling right there. [01:12:44] Speaker B: Yeah, it's not bad. [01:12:45] Speaker A: They're arguing over Mario Kart. [01:12:47] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. It's Waluigi dressed as, you know, a white guy thinking that he's the hardest man ever. And just this nerdy kid with braces. They. They knock an old man out of the way. So. [01:13:03] Speaker A: Bad people. [01:13:04] Speaker B: Yeah. And then they. They walk into a deli. Let's get some sandwiches. Don't mobody mess with my kart skills. [01:13:12] Speaker A: And do you mainly have to play Mario Kart? Do you have someone usually play as. [01:13:17] Speaker B: I really liked using Rosalina. [01:13:19] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [01:13:20] Speaker B: Because Rosalina was quick once you got there. No, I usually will just take whoever. I don't like the big, beefy guys because I need the acceleration. I liked playing dry bones because he was fun. He is funny. But, no, I don't really main anyone. Okay. As the younger brother and the person who was always bad at stuff, I just got what was left over. I was the person who was so bad at Smash Bros. That I was allowed to play Kirby, because even with Kirby's overpoweredness, I was still terrible. [01:13:53] Speaker A: Kirby's not that overpowered. I could kick Kirby's ass as Mario on Smash bros. I'll kick his ass. [01:13:57] Speaker B: Oh. It's just that Kirby could steal everybody else's power powers. So if somebody was good enough at it, they were just annoyingly good. [01:14:03] Speaker A: Yeah, no, he could be really annoying. [01:14:04] Speaker B: Yeah, but so. So they're eating their sandwiches, and Sam comes by and just smashes Waluigi's face into the table. And Sam tells this other kid to get out. And, like, the proprietors of this deli are just like, oh, oh, oh, geez. Oh, oh, geez. Oh, geez. And we learned that this kid's name is Diego, and he was supposed to help Sam, uh, pinpoint a particular perpetrator from this one case that he'd been working for a real long time, and Sam doesn't like that. Sam's like, I promised your mother that I'd watch over you and take care of you, but you gotta fucking give me something. Uh, so he's like, I don't care if you fuck up your life. Just don't fuck up my cases. So that's Sam Burke's priorities are the cases and then life. [01:14:48] Speaker A: And then, of course, the owners come up, and they're like, you okay, man? What's going on here? [01:14:52] Speaker B: This is a decent estate establishment. [01:14:55] Speaker A: He's like, NYPD brushes him off. [01:14:57] Speaker B: Yeah, the old lady brings Diego a glass of water, and Sam's just like, that's mine. Thank you. [01:15:04] Speaker A: Yoink. [01:15:04] Speaker B: Yeah. And Sam further threatens him if he fucks up another one of his cases. And then we cut to Sam at the barbershop with the understanding that apparently Sam literally just told all his Barbershire buddies this story. And his friends are like, what the fuck is wrong with you? And Sam Burke's just like, suck it up. That's how the world works. Barber's lather, stropping up that razor to give Sam Burke a shave. So we've talked about Sam Burke being unshaven, and he doesn't do his own shaving, apparently. [01:15:43] Speaker A: So he's about to get that shave right now, and it gets interrupted. [01:15:47] Speaker B: Yeah, it gets interrupted because he gets cut on the cheek. And he's like, jesus, Bernie, watch it. But it's not Bernie, Johnny. It's twitch. [01:15:58] Speaker A: It's twitch. [01:15:59] Speaker B: He says, heard what happened today. Chief wants to see us. Yeah, real good. And Sam's just grumbling, grumbly grumbling. And then they get in the car and twitch is like, come on, Sam. Fucking grow up. And then, I like the last panel on this page. Come on, it's been 20 minutes. Stop with the silent treatment. Oh, poor, poor Sam. Poor Sam. He's a bit of, he's, he's a blowhard. He's a softie. So we're in a, we're in their commander's office, and he's given them what for. And not only did the kid's mom file a complaint, but she knows somebody in city hall, so it's coming down on him. [01:16:41] Speaker A: She's taking it all the way to city hall. [01:16:45] Speaker B: And so, so the thing is, he's, uh, and Sam's just, Sam's just being a jerk here. He's just, you know, yawning, inspecting his cuticles, you know, not paying attention while he's getting dressed down. And he gets a, he gets, he gets a month. A month suspension, Johnny. [01:17:07] Speaker A: Yeah, that sucks. [01:17:08] Speaker B: Yeah, a month. [01:17:11] Speaker A: I'm sure it's without pay. [01:17:12] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, probably. And twitch is like, man, that sucks for you, Sam. Okay, well, let's go. And the commander's like, nah, since you took us back down, sir, you're getting suspended too, which is like, what? [01:17:26] Speaker A: Keep covering for him? [01:17:27] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, they've, they've already transferred the case, so, you know, and he's like, gives him, gives him the, he's like, use this time to decide whether you want to be a cop or babysitter. See you in a month. Damn, man. Yeah. Fucking brutal. Then we get twitch walking across the bullpen to their office. This. [01:17:53] Speaker A: This looks random convicts fighting. [01:17:56] Speaker B: This looks like a scene out of a, like, like a late nineties Lucasarts game. Johnny. [01:18:01] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Where you go talk to different people. [01:18:03] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. There's just random shit happening. Yeah, I'd play that video game. I like the big water cooler in the middle of the floor there. [01:18:12] Speaker A: Sam's just throwing papers around. He's so pissed. [01:18:14] Speaker B: Yeah, he's just like, rifling through stuff. We get a nice overhead shot of the office. And then there's Sam's side and Twitch's side, and, oh, boy, there's almost a line drawn on the floor where pretty much. And Sam's like, fuck this, let's go get a beer. Which is like, nah. Sam says, what do you mean no? And we get a close up on Sam's chin to see that he didn't get his. He didn't get his shave finished, so he's still all scraggly. [01:18:46] Speaker A: He did not get his shave finished. [01:18:48] Speaker B: Nope. And twitch is like, I can't, I can't. No, man, you gotta just fucking go. [01:18:55] Speaker A: I'm too exhausted with this. [01:18:57] Speaker B: Yeah, it's like, I'm tired of you. And then Sam's. Sam, Sam doesn't want to hear that. And he's just like, all this bullshit. This fucking shit sucks. Where are my goddamn keys? I just have them and switches, like, sir, they're in your pocket. [01:19:16] Speaker A: They're in your pocket. [01:19:17] Speaker B: He finds them, and then he's just like, go fuck yourself. I like how it says. It says, fuck. No grolics at all here. [01:19:26] Speaker A: We gotta fuck it. [01:19:28] Speaker B: Sam is so pissed. Oh, boy. [01:19:31] Speaker A: Yeah, just twitch is his keeper. He twitches is one that watches out for him, and he's saying no. [01:19:38] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:19:39] Speaker A: Pushing back on him. [01:19:40] Speaker B: So. And you know, twitch just stands there for a bit and then he gets a phone call. We don't know from who. [01:19:48] Speaker A: Oops. But he says, nope, thank you. [01:19:51] Speaker B: And then he goes back to his desk, and then the puzzle pieces start falling out. Johnny. [01:19:56] Speaker A: Pretty cool. [01:19:56] Speaker B: The next, it's a two page spread of. It's a puzzle of some corn with a whole bunch of pieces of real bad injury. Body parts. [01:20:09] Speaker A: Yeah, body parts scattered across. [01:20:11] Speaker B: There's a torso, there's a wrist. Missing a hand. There's a hand with no body. There's legs where one of them is chopped off. There's a foot, there's an eyeball. And over it is just like the message from that phone call. It's guy named Jim Tressel. Went to the police academy with Twitch. He's like, hey, how's it going? [01:20:37] Speaker A: How's the family? [01:20:40] Speaker B: He's like, I've been meaning to catch up, but I got a. I need to talk to you about a work related matter. [01:20:46] Speaker A: I got a real fucked up case. [01:20:47] Speaker B: Yeah, he's like, this is some. He's like, I don't know how to. I don't know how to do this. This is a bit outside of my league. Maybe you could come help me. And we see him on the phone standing over this field of carnage. Yes. [01:21:04] Speaker A: Just like five or six bodies, just like all cut up and mutilated. [01:21:08] Speaker B: It's hard to count them because not all of them are fully complete. [01:21:12] Speaker A: Exactly. That's the problem. [01:21:13] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, boy. It is. Carnage is the only way to. Only way to describe it. [01:21:21] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [01:21:22] Speaker B: No, no, no. To be continued. No. See you next month. No, nothing. It just bam, cut out. [01:21:28] Speaker A: Bam. [01:21:29] Speaker B: Hard cut right into image classics. It's a little bit. It's a little bit jarring to go from this image to the bright advertisements of the next. Yeah. [01:21:40] Speaker A: Especially this one's Sheldon dressed as the flash from big bang theory. [01:21:47] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:21:48] Speaker A: Yeah. These movie maniacs are kind of weird. They made a 40 year old version one. Have you seen that? [01:21:53] Speaker B: No, I haven't. [01:21:53] Speaker A: I make it a 40 year old version one. They made a Sheldon. It. I mean, it makes sense. Aragorn, I guess. Makes sense. [01:22:02] Speaker B: I thought that was Faramir or Boromir. [01:22:04] Speaker A: It's Aragorn. [01:22:05] Speaker B: It's Aragorn. [01:22:06] Speaker A: Yes. Come on. [01:22:11] Speaker B: The eyes. The. The eyes and the. The goatee made me think it was Faramir. [01:22:16] Speaker A: It's Aragorn. Definitely by the clothes. [01:22:18] Speaker B: But Aragorn doesn't have a goatee. [01:22:21] Speaker A: It's a beard. They just don't show it cuz his hands, the way it's a full beard. It's like a scruffle. It's definitely Aragorn. [01:22:28] Speaker B: Oh, I guess. I guess the. I guess the. The handle of the sword kind of gives it away, doesn't it? [01:22:33] Speaker A: Yeah, it's definitely fucking Aragorn. [01:22:39] Speaker B: I've learned my lesson. [01:22:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:22:41] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:22:42] Speaker A: And then on the back there's a preview for Sam and twitch two, which I really like because it's like a norman rock. [01:22:48] Speaker B: Yeah, it's real good. [01:22:50] Speaker A: Real good. That's the breezy Sam and twitch number one in the new you. [01:22:59] Speaker B: The new Sam. The new twitch. The new you the new Sam? Yeah. [01:23:05] Speaker A: He loses like 50 pounds. I wouldn't like him as much. [01:23:08] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, Johnny, I think that brings us to the part of the show where we choose a couple of puppies and we rate them. [01:23:19] Speaker A: Let's do these two puppies we read. Cause it's time to rate the puppies. Woo. So first up, we had rat City by Erica Schultz and Z Carlos. Number one, I would say, kind of like what I said before, it's excellent beginning to the story. It really gets you hooked. Gives you just enough tease of the spawn stuff to really, like, make you wonder where it's gonna go with it. You're making enough for the other stuff. You care about them too. [01:23:47] Speaker B: It makes you want to pull out your wallet and immediately say, I'm, I am paying for all of the issues right now. Just, yes, give them to me. [01:23:53] Speaker A: Give them all to me. Yes. I'm excited to see where it goes. It's just so, it seems so interesting idea. Such a big world to explore. I love the aesthetic, love the art of the COVID I love the interior. I love everything about it. Yeah, I really liked Rat City and I like cyberpunk stuff. So I think it's gonna be one of my favorite series, probably. We'll see how it goes, but I'm expecting it to be pretty high on my, on my list. [01:24:20] Speaker B: Oh, yes. [01:24:21] Speaker A: Also, I like that it's another new ongoing because, like, the other ones are kind of mini series, but it's nice to have, like I said before, one of the things I, when I try to pick and choose the comics I get, I try to get stuff that's ongoing and like, serialized, because that's something you can only get that feeling in comics. [01:24:41] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:24:41] Speaker A: Whereas it's like a five, if I know it's a five issue miniseries, like, I can wait and maybe get the tray of paper back from the library, or I can wait and just get it wherever. But if it's an ongoing series, it's monthly. I think that's pretty exciting. [01:24:53] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. [01:24:55] Speaker A: I'm going to give it five cell phone chargers, because even in the future, Peter, Karen has to look for his cell phone charger, which we know, you. [01:25:02] Speaker B: Know, you've got like twelve of them, but you can never find one when you need it. [01:25:05] Speaker A: Whenever we need it, it's always, yeah, when you're at 1%, where is it? [01:25:10] Speaker B: Absolutely. Uh, well, Johnny, I agree with everything you just said. Writing is wonderful, the art is beautiful. The, the whole concept is just like something cyberpunk. It's fucking great. If you don't like cyberpunk, fuck out of here. What are you doing? What are you doing? Go talk to somebody else about something else. Uh, it's. It's just wonderful. It's. It's. It's wonderfully garish. Like, the color is wonderfully garish. It's. Because it's what it is. It's basically light pollution as, as aesthetic, and it's. It's crazy. It's. It's. I'm so excited for where this is going. Um, I love how it's the most different of any of the new. The new stories, I think. [01:25:56] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. It's definitely the most exciting and new visually, for sure. [01:25:59] Speaker B: Yeah. Because it's new characters. It's a new, entirely different aesthetic. It's. It's not hell based yet, but, I mean, the incorporation of sort of that, that hellness into the cyberpunk aesthetic, I think is going to be beautiful. [01:26:15] Speaker A: Yep. A lot of reds, greens and neons. I can't wait. [01:26:18] Speaker B: I'm also this fucking C Carlos art. This is C Carlos art. Joe. Holy crap. We were, we were very right to be excited about this. I am also going to give it five. I'm going to give it five. Obviously, it's animated. Five animated drug advertisements on the streets of 20, 111 New York City. [01:26:45] Speaker A: Of course, you got to have the. They're always animated. It's got, like, a big, like, hot lady on it. [01:26:49] Speaker B: Yeah. But it's like, it's like a bottle of pills opening and you know that it's just an animation of the top popping off and the pills going. [01:26:56] Speaker A: The pills, like, dancing out. Yeah. Yep. Street animation in the cyberpunk universe is always good. [01:27:03] Speaker B: Yeah, it's great. [01:27:04] Speaker A: The ads are crazy. [01:27:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:27:06] Speaker A: There's that Coca Cola ad in Blade Runner. [01:27:08] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [01:27:10] Speaker A: And there's the giant lady in Blade Runner 2049. [01:27:16] Speaker B: Most of them. Most of them revolve around a giant lady. That's a. It's a big thing in anime, too. There's always. [01:27:21] Speaker A: Yes, it's a big thing in anime. [01:27:22] Speaker B: Always. The giant lady advertisements. [01:27:25] Speaker A: Yes. And there's a lot of anime odes into cyberpunks. [01:27:28] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:27:28] Speaker A: It's ode to Akira and a lot of stuff like that. [01:27:31] Speaker B: So I used to, it took, it took me a while to get over it. Like, much like with Logan and the art style of clone wars. It took me a very long time to just be like, fucking. Just watch the anime for the story. I used to be like, I don't like the. I don't like the style thing. You know what, Johnny? I got over myself and now there's so many more stories that I can, I can watch and enjoy. [01:27:59] Speaker A: Yeah, I need to do that at some point. I still haven't. [01:28:02] Speaker B: I mean, obviously it's not for everybody, but if any of it speaks to you in any way, it just increases the amount of things that you can enjoy. And what is life if not a constant pursuit of things that you enjoy? [01:28:16] Speaker A: Yeah. Another thing I enjoyed was Sam and twitch. [01:28:18] Speaker B: Oh yeah. [01:28:19] Speaker A: Case files number one. [01:28:20] Speaker B: Oh yeah. [01:28:21] Speaker A: Basically completely different from Rat City, which is kind of fun about the new you, is you can get something that's so diverse and so incredibly different. But I really like this. I like, I know. I like where it goes. I like the second issue even more. [01:28:37] Speaker B: The second issue is great. [01:28:38] Speaker A: I love the art style. I love the, the lettering just gives it this realistic graininess to it. [01:28:43] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [01:28:44] Speaker A: I feel like the Todd father is like, you know, doing a long con, did a long game story, which is good to see, is a lot of time. He focuses issue to issue, as we say. Yeah, but it seems like he's setting up a big mystery here. So I'm excited about that. Yeah, I love Sam and Twitch. So it's. I thought it was excellent. I'm going to give it 4.5 Tanooki Marios because that's my main Mario party. [01:29:09] Speaker B: Nice. Excellent. Yeah, I agree. It is on a spectrum of aesthetics. We've got Sam and twitch on one end and Rat City on the other end and they have no crossover except for Al Simmons shows up occasionally. [01:29:28] Speaker A: Al Simmons shows up on the COVID or in the back. [01:29:30] Speaker B: Or the back. Yeah. Like you said, the art itself, it lends a massive amount of grittiness. Like it feels like it's one of those things where everything is traced off of actual physical reference photographs. So there's, there's that extra, extra bit of verisimilitudes to the things. And it's not just the expressions on. [01:29:54] Speaker A: Sam and Twitch faces. [01:29:55] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:29:55] Speaker A: Like that, where he's holding the razor and like contemplating it. You really get a sense of how he's moving. [01:30:02] Speaker B: Yeah, but it's, I mean, you know, it's a little bit exaggerated because visual storytelling requires a little bit of exaggeration just to get your point across. But it's the most subdued exaggeration that you can get away with in a comic book just because it is so real. There is nothing big and bombastic about this. It's a small story with regular stakes. I think. I think the Todd father was made to write sort of detective noir stories, because every time he does that, his writing is amazing. The writing in this. Incredible. You could have told me that this was written by somebody other than Todd McFarlane, and I would have believed you. He's just. He's just very good at it. That's. I don't know what it is about him and this. This sort of genre that clicks so well, but he's good at it. So let's. Let's keep it going, Toddfather. Um. [01:31:01] Speaker A: Keep it going, Todd. [01:31:02] Speaker B: Father, I very much enjoyed this. Um, I enjoyed it more second reading. After reading the first, the second issue. Um, just because when I went to the shop, though, the week after this came out, the guys there were like, what did you think? I didn't like it as much as I thought I was going to. What did you think? And I was like, I am upset that the boys are having issues. I don't like that our boys are fighting, but I can see where it's going to bring us that this is an inciting incident. It's not the end. So I understand that sometimes to make a nice, good, compelling story, you have to experience something bad. And that's. That's what's happening here. So I'm very excited for it. [01:31:55] Speaker A: When they finally come back together, it'll be great. [01:31:57] Speaker B: Oh, it's gonna be. It's gonna be. It's gonna be beautiful. It's gonna be beautiful. Although the opening of issue two means that it's probably going to be a very hard one. Reunion. [01:32:10] Speaker A: Yes. [01:32:10] Speaker B: But I'm gonna give it. I'm gonna give it four. Sam just trashing his side of the office. [01:32:20] Speaker A: Four trashy sides of the office. I love it. [01:32:23] Speaker B: I like that he's not even really doing anything. He's just picking up papers and throwing them. [01:32:28] Speaker A: Yeah, I know. He's just like, angry. Like, meh, meh, meh. I'm throwing papers. [01:32:32] Speaker B: Oh, boy. Yeah, it's good. I'm excited for where this is going and, you know. [01:32:39] Speaker A: Absolutely. [01:32:40] Speaker B: It's. It's good. It's good shit. [01:32:41] Speaker A: What else is good shit. [01:32:42] Speaker B: What's that, Johnny? [01:32:43] Speaker A: Some of the people we follow online. [01:32:45] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. That also follow us. [01:32:47] Speaker A: That also follow us. And we've got someone we wanted to highlight today. Each week, like a little shout out to some of the people in the sponstagram community. And who are we shouting out today? David. [01:32:57] Speaker B: So, uh, sorry. [01:32:59] Speaker A: I went to search and it's just naked women. [01:33:01] Speaker B: I. Yeah. [01:33:03] Speaker A: Why is it always like that? [01:33:04] Speaker B: I don't know, cuz. My. My personal instagram, that is nothing. [01:33:07] Speaker A: But why is it making me click on them now? [01:33:08] Speaker B: Has nothing but naked women on it too. So I think when. When meta took over for the search or like, that, they put the meta AI in. It's just like, oh, all men just want to see tits all the time. Even. Even if you've demonstrably done nothing but put pictures of dogs and liked pictures of dogs and talked to people about their dogs fucking the world's gross, Johnny, this is. This is our cyberpunk future that we're living in. These are our big lady advertisements. But yes, yes, yes. We've got a nice little follow here for you this week. His name is Estevato. Obviously, that's not their real name. That's just the title they go by. But their handle on instagram is Estevatu underscore collects. There's an extra s. There's an extra o. [01:34:01] Speaker A: We'll put it in. [01:34:03] Speaker B: But they. Yeah, literally, flat out just south Texas collector. And, Johnny, what they collect is mostly spawn, so. [01:34:12] Speaker A: Mostly spawn. [01:34:13] Speaker B: They're a great company. They've got. Look at, like. Yeah. Oh, man. They got blood feud there. Hell, yeah. [01:34:22] Speaker A: They got some of the ones we've been covering, man. [01:34:24] Speaker B: They got a. They found an awesome. An awesome classic covers spawn figure at a flea market. Holy shit. I've never seen that one. That's awesome. It's like spawn going, ha. Oh, man. They're friends with the spawn hunter too. Look at that. [01:34:40] Speaker A: We're in good company. [01:34:41] Speaker B: Good company. Yeah, follow them. They're great. They got this, like. It's a beautiful collection. Beautiful collection. You just. You just scroll through it, and it's nothing but green, black, and red all the way down. Hell, yeah. [01:34:55] Speaker A: Hell, yeah. [01:34:56] Speaker B: You know what else is hell yeah over on Instagram, Johnny, besides the. [01:34:59] Speaker A: Sorry, I'm still looking at the naked ladies on my instagram. I'm sorry. [01:35:02] Speaker B: Well. Well, if you can. If you can take your eyes away from them, you should take yourself over to Brian Boyles, underscore 27. [01:35:09] Speaker A: Okay. [01:35:10] Speaker B: And, you know, give him some love, because Brian, he does our music and. [01:35:14] Speaker A: Oh, nice. [01:35:15] Speaker B: He does. He deserves all the love you can give. He's. He's a cool motherfucker, if you will. [01:35:21] Speaker A: Yeah, he is. Sorry, I'm putting it down. [01:35:22] Speaker B: Bonk. [01:35:25] Speaker A: The episode begins with a bonk and ends with a bonk. [01:35:27] Speaker B: I mean, it's just bonks all the way through, Johnny. That's bonks all the way through. That's the world we live in. While you're over there, I mean, you might as well come by and see us, too, regarding spawnpod. You know, we got our faces. We got some Colin books. We got some. Some things that tie into the episodes. You know, if you. If you wouldn't mind, maybe, you know, following us, we can keep you up to date there. You can see our pictures of us at c two e two there. We talked to Tom Orzakowski and then walked away. And then we're, like, three aisles away in Artist alley, and we're like, we should go back and take a picture with him, shouldn't we? [01:36:09] Speaker A: Yeah, we should have done that. [01:36:11] Speaker B: So then we circled back, and he took a picture with us. [01:36:13] Speaker A: Cool. [01:36:13] Speaker B: He's talked to us some more, talking about cool motherfuckers. Tom. Oh, he's one of the greats. Yeah. Please do come by. Just hang out with us on Instagram. Well, you know, we like to talk. We like to see pictures of your stuff. See pictures of our stuff. We'll share pictures of our stuff. [01:36:31] Speaker A: So much stuff. [01:36:32] Speaker B: So much. So much stuff. If you don't have Instagram, if you refuse to be part of the metaverse, understandable. You can always send us an [email protected]. [01:36:44] Speaker A: Let us know there. [01:36:45] Speaker B: We will send us there. [01:36:47] Speaker A: We will answer all your questions, comments, and concerns. [01:36:50] Speaker B: Yeah, if you send us an email, we'll read it on air, unless you don't want us to. And if you send us your address, we'll send you some stickers. We got. We still got a lot of these puppies to give away. [01:37:00] Speaker A: Actually, some of my stickers in my bag got soaked yesterday. Throw away, like, a bunch of them. [01:37:04] Speaker B: I had. I had. So for my twitch cosplay, I had tucked a couple in the rolled up part of my sleeve so they were easy to get at since my shirt didn't have a pocket on it. I accidentally washed, like, ten of them. [01:37:16] Speaker A: Yeah, I lost, like, 20 yesterday to the storm. I was like, no. [01:37:20] Speaker B: Oh, boy. But, you know, the sooner we run out, the sooner we have to buy more. And, hey, the more people will have them. But, you know, stickers, we love. We love giving out our stickers. [01:37:29] Speaker A: Yeah. And I always like to ask a question, and I just want to know out of these two, or they asked a question to respond, spawn some email thoughts. [01:37:38] Speaker B: Ooh, that's a good one. [01:37:40] Speaker A: Yes. So I was just asking, out of these two flavors on the opposite of the spectrum, which one did you prefer? Did you like Rat City or Sam and twitch case files? Which one are you more excited about in the future. So just let us [email protected]. [01:37:52] Speaker B: Dot hell, yes. Yes, indeed. You know what else, you know what else we should do, Johnny? [01:37:58] Speaker A: Read some more spawn. [01:37:59] Speaker B: Yeah, we should read some more spawn. I got the. The. The spontes, and this just makes me want to get into the. I know. [01:38:06] Speaker A: We got to dive into the real thing. [01:38:08] Speaker B: I get the real thing, you know? [01:38:10] Speaker A: So what do you want to check out next week? [01:38:12] Speaker B: Um, you know, I don't know. Uh, maybe. Maybe something along the lines of, you know, some. Something classic. Something classic, like, from way back in the day. [01:38:22] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. We're, like, right at 19 and 20. Right? That's where we were doing it. [01:38:25] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, that's. Those are the next ones that we got coming up. What do you think? [01:38:28] Speaker A: But wait, we're not gonna do it. [01:38:30] Speaker B: Oh, why not? [01:38:31] Speaker A: Because Thomas Healy, who is a very busy man, said he's a big Houdini fan. [01:38:36] Speaker B: Yes. [01:38:36] Speaker A: And he wanted to do the Houdini issues with us, so we decided to save those for Thomas Healy the next time we can get him on. So we're skipping 19 and 20, the two Houdini issues, just to be preserved in time. [01:38:49] Speaker B: It's been a while since I've read them, so I hope they don't have anything for the next issues following that. [01:38:56] Speaker A: That's okay. We could read them. We're just not going to cover them. [01:39:00] Speaker B: It's comics. It's comics. It'll all make sense. [01:39:01] Speaker A: You could read them if you want. David, I'm not allowed to read them until you're covering them. [01:39:06] Speaker B: Well, the problem is that I tend to leave things till the last minute. Oh, no. Oh, gosh. I'm human. So that if I read the Houdini ones without being about to cover them, then I might accidentally run out of time to read. Read the ones that we need to read. [01:39:23] Speaker A: Exactly. [01:39:24] Speaker B: Yeah, so those are. Yeah, those are held in. [01:39:26] Speaker A: So those were jumping over. [01:39:28] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:39:28] Speaker A: So what we're reading for next week. [01:39:29] Speaker B: Is we're going to be reading spawn 21. [01:39:32] Speaker A: Spawn 21. Right after 1920. Spawn 21 and Kingspawn 30. [01:39:37] Speaker B: Yeah, it'll be a good. So a good. It'll be another double, double Todd father written episode. [01:39:44] Speaker A: Yes, it will be. [01:39:45] Speaker B: Maybe. Maybe we can convince him to write the script for it. So that way, the script for both issues and the show will be written by Todd McBrown. [01:39:54] Speaker A: Yeah. Let's go and write the script for the podcast. [01:39:55] Speaker B: Hell, yeah. Let's do it. [01:39:57] Speaker A: Let's do it like a two hour script, you know, no big deal. [01:39:59] Speaker B: You can probably bust that out in, like, 15 minutes. [01:40:01] Speaker A: Probably. [01:40:05] Speaker B: He doesn't have to worry about getting editorial rewrites from Thomas Healy or making it so that there's fewer words for Tom O to write. Just. Well, just write them down, Todd. Father, we'll read them. [01:40:15] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:40:16] Speaker B: Email the script to regardingspudpodmail.com, and we'll. We'll get it out there. [01:40:22] Speaker A: Whatever you want. [01:40:24] Speaker B: Absolutely. So those. Those sound like a couple of great episodes. Issues to read for the next episode, Johnny. Those, again are spawn 21 and Kingspawn 30. That'll be a good time, man. I guess that brings us around. We've talked some spawn. We've talked some spawn related. We've talked about what we're gonna talk about next week. I don't. I don't think I have anything left to say, johnny, except for may the scorch be with you. [01:40:56] Speaker A: And also with you, David. [01:40:58] Speaker B: Hell, yeah. [01:40:58] Speaker A: And also with the new you. [01:41:00] Speaker B: Ah, the. The spawn's new you. Spawn you. [01:41:04] Speaker A: So what are you doing for your new you, David? I'm gonna start doing wii boxing. Or I guess not wii switch boxing. That's what I'll do. [01:41:10] Speaker B: I heard that as weed boxing, and. [01:41:12] Speaker A: I was like, weed boxing? No, I say wii boxing, but that's not wii anymore. It's switch switch boxing. [01:41:18] Speaker B: But since it's the new U, it needs to be the wii U boxing. So you gotta go. [01:41:22] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, I need you. I need to do wii U boxing. [01:41:25] Speaker B: You gotta go to vintage. Oh, nice. [01:41:27] Speaker A: I have a wii U. I was gonna sell it, but now I gotta use it. [01:41:30] Speaker B: Well, I'm Johnny. I have been. I have been entranced by the dancing capsules in the advertisement across the street. I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go buy some drugs. [01:41:40] Speaker A: Okay. That's very futuristic of you. [01:41:42] Speaker B: That's my new me. My new you. [01:41:43] Speaker A: All right, well, welcome to the new you, motherfucker. [01:41:52] Speaker B: Welcome to the new me.
