[00:00:00] Speaker A: Your mother would be so disappointed. Good evening and welcome to the Malibols. This is regarding Spawn, the world's best Spawn podcast. I am your co host, John Fisher. [00:00:43] Speaker B: And I'm your co host, David Williams. And Johnny. Johnny. I'm impressed. I'm very happy. So a couple of days ago, I just had the books that I were reading for today laying out on the. On a coffee table. And Wanda walks by and sees the Gunslinger. And she goes, is that Roland Deshain? I almost. I almost fell backwards. And I was like, you remember? You remembered his name. [00:01:08] Speaker A: Wow. [00:01:09] Speaker B: Yeah. And she was like, you've only been talking about him for like 25 fucking years. [00:01:13] Speaker A: The main character of Stephen King is the Dark Tower series. [00:01:18] Speaker B: The Gunslinger. The Gunslinger himself, Roland to Shane. And it does say gunslinger. And so [00:01:25] Speaker A: it does. [00:01:25] Speaker B: So that was. That was. That was. I was very excited about that. [00:01:28] Speaker A: It's been a while since we covered original gunslinger. Because 50 didn't feel like one. [00:01:33] Speaker B: No, no. [00:01:34] Speaker A: Remember, he was barely in it. He was in like what, five panels maybe? [00:01:39] Speaker B: I don't even think that. I think he was on a page. Maybe maybe two pages. [00:01:44] Speaker A: Two pages? Yeah, because he was like, yeah. He was like, yeah, plague spawns out there. He tried to take my skin, but I got away. [00:01:50] Speaker B: Yeah. He's like, that guy's no good. [00:01:54] Speaker A: I'm going over here, 50th issue out and then we get 51. David's favorite issue is Spawn. [00:02:03] Speaker B: I think it's a. It's a top contender. Most definitely. [00:02:07] Speaker A: If you want to get someone to Spawn, just get slapped at gunslinger 51 in their hand. [00:02:17] Speaker B: It's the best entry point [00:02:20] Speaker A: because today we are covering. Before we get to that, we have a. It's like getting a really disappointing dessert, I guess because we have a luxurious main course. [00:02:30] Speaker B: Yeah, we do. [00:02:31] Speaker A: Because we are reading King Swan 53 and Gunslinger 51. [00:02:37] Speaker B: Yes. And why are we reading those books, Johnny? [00:02:41] Speaker A: Because we are respawn regarding Spawn, where each week we bring you two issues from Spawn's universe. Except when we don't. This week is no different. We have two issues in Spawn's universe. We're chugging up there. These are from February. Oh, God. We have to lap us. We had to do like a Spawn a thon. [00:03:02] Speaker B: We could just. We could just do a chunk of. We could. We could have a couple of episodes that inspired by Spawnography. And it's just like. We do an arc. [00:03:11] Speaker A: We just do a catch up. [00:03:12] Speaker B: Well, we could do that on these series. [00:03:13] Speaker A: Do like four in one episode would be fine. [00:03:18] Speaker B: I Don't know. I think it would take a little bit of the flavor out. [00:03:21] Speaker A: Yeah, we wrote our own pace, [00:03:25] Speaker B: you know. That's fine. I don't mind it. Apparently. Apparently 79 people in the last week don't mind it either, Johnny. [00:03:34] Speaker A: That's good. Yeah, like that. [00:03:40] Speaker B: Looking at the geographic stats, we got. We got. We got Brazil. Brazil's been doing gangbusters lately. Nice. [00:03:50] Speaker A: That's good. Yeah, but those are our issues. This week's no different. We already told you. We have Gunslinger 51. And then before that we have King Spawn 53. [00:04:02] Speaker B: Yes, yes indeed. [00:04:03] Speaker A: Is that all the intro? It's been a while. [00:04:06] Speaker B: I think that I'm. That's yeah, that's all the intro that we actually have to do. [00:04:10] Speaker A: We draw our catches. We forgot to play Foghorn Leghorn. [00:04:16] Speaker B: We forgot to do the thing where we just talk about something completely different for half an hour. [00:04:20] Speaker A: I just want to get to it. We can talk about. Because, David, I gotta check. I gotta update. I'm wheeling away from my computer and I'm looking at my TV because. [00:04:32] Speaker B: What's this? [00:04:33] Speaker A: Delivered by God. By God's United States Postal Service today. [00:04:37] Speaker B: The eagle itself. Scott [00:04:41] Speaker A: delivered me a freshman PlayStation 5. [00:04:44] Speaker B: Hell yeah. Five of them. Five. [00:04:46] Speaker A: Five PlayStation 5 PlayStation ones. Yeah. Metal Gear Solid and the Chicken, which I own. David, I bought the Chicken Run game with my own money on PS1. [00:04:55] Speaker B: Was it good? [00:04:59] Speaker A: That's all that matters. Minigame collection. But there were some stealth sections too, that were fun. [00:05:02] Speaker B: I mean, because, I mean, I remember the 7 up spot. Game on Sega Genesis was great. A banger. [00:05:10] Speaker A: It was hard as shit. Well, I got pretty far in it with my brother. I don't know if we ever beat it. [00:05:15] Speaker B: Interesting. [00:05:17] Speaker A: Blue Squad had a bitching soundtrack. Alright. So I got the sexy controller. It tells me it's updated. I'm telling you to hit the PlayStation button. [00:05:26] Speaker B: Hit that PlayStation button, Johnny. [00:05:29] Speaker A: Continue without discs. I don't have any disk. [00:05:33] Speaker B: It doesn't come with it. It doesn't come with a game. Boo. Remember when. When game consoles all came with a. Like a single game? [00:05:41] Speaker A: This is more. I gotta like set up my whole account. Oh my God. [00:05:45] Speaker B: Well, it's come up with a good name for you, Johnny. What's it's gonna be? J. Fish Boy. [00:05:51] Speaker A: No, dude, it's. You know what it is? You don't know my gamer tag. [00:05:55] Speaker B: Oh, no, it's. It's Oyster Boy. Yeah, I know. [00:05:59] Speaker A: Evidently that's taken. But Oyster under Dash boy is not. But Oyster Space Boy taken. So I got that in 11th grade, I claimed that name on Xbox Live. [00:06:11] Speaker B: There's some other. There's some other Tim Burton nerd out there. Johnny. [00:06:15] Speaker A: There's other oyster boys on Xbox Live. I've looked. [00:06:18] Speaker B: Oh, nice [00:06:20] Speaker A: about the one. The only weirdest thing about that name, there's like two years when, like, people were still on mike. Now people don't really get on mike. Occasionally they do mainly to like, troll, [00:06:33] Speaker B: but say words that they shouldn't say. [00:06:35] Speaker A: It's helpful when people are nice on it. But there's like a two year period. I don't know what was up, but guys would get mad at me on Halo because Aaron was mouthing and I was playing with Aaron, but I was kind of mouthy too. And they'd be like, oyster boy, what does that mean? You go hunting for oysters in your ass. Like multiple people said that to me. And I was like, what's going on? And then someone was like, oh, oysters. Like, you're gonna suck on my balls. My oysters. You little. Like, it was all about like they turned oysterboard into some kind of gay thing. [00:07:07] Speaker B: Weird. [00:07:08] Speaker A: And my, my comeback was always, no, I'm the oyster king. I would say if you live west of the Mason. If you live Mason Dixon's North. South. [00:07:16] Speaker B: No, south. [00:07:17] Speaker A: Yeah, Yeah. I was like, if you live north of the Mason Dixon and you've had an oyster in the last two months, that was part of my company. I'm the northern oyster boy. And I would like. That was my bet if they made fun of my name. [00:07:28] Speaker B: That's funny because I actually have a friend who lives in Maine. I think he lives in Maine and he owns an oyster farm. [00:07:37] Speaker A: Yeah, oysters on a half shell. Oh, yeah. [00:07:39] Speaker B: Oysters are fucking delicious. The problem is getting fresh ones. Finding. Well, nowadays, finding a happy hour deal, that's oysters for less. Three bucks a butt a piece. [00:07:51] Speaker A: Bar Parasat has a good one. The guy who owns my old restaurant, Table Donkey and Stick, Matthew Susserman, Shout out, he owns Bar Pariset. And they have a good oyster deal. I think they were a dollar. [00:08:04] Speaker B: Well, but also it's great. [00:08:05] Speaker A: It's a great restaurant. I loved going there. [00:08:07] Speaker B: That's. That's absolutely nowhere near work is the problem. Look at looking. Looking for places. [00:08:13] Speaker A: Take a $60 uber David to get oysters. [00:08:16] Speaker B: Looking for. Looking for a place to hit after work with coworkers and downtown Chicago. Nobody's got dollar oysters. Or if they've got dollar oysters, they're like, like the size of a quarter. [00:08:30] Speaker A: My fucking Balls, you stupid bitch, Oyster boy. [00:08:33] Speaker B: I mean, I'd be low. I'd be. I'd. I'd be fuller after eating some balls than I would after these oysters. Shit. [00:08:41] Speaker A: I had fried cat fries once. [00:08:44] Speaker B: I had rock. I had Rocky Mountain oysters once in Colorado. [00:08:49] Speaker A: Brand's hometown, Bonita, Oklahoma. Moved to Chicago. We went to a diner. They had like. It was like. It was like in a chicken fried steak breakfast. [00:08:57] Speaker B: But like, I mean, they got. They. They cut them off anyway. They might as well do something with them. Did you ever go to cat fry in. In Stillwater? [00:09:08] Speaker A: I never did. I regret it. [00:09:10] Speaker B: I kind of wish I had gone, but also I'm. I'm good not having gone. Not because I wouldn't have eaten some fried food, because literally once you just deep fry them, it's just. It's eating some deep fried food. But I don't think I could have done the pomp and partying around it. I'm an old curmudgeon, Johnny old curmudgeon. I'll cur that, merchant. [00:09:37] Speaker A: That's why we love you. [00:09:39] Speaker B: Speaking of curmudgeons, I lived in Kur for a year. So was a Kerr curmudgeon. Where in Kerr? The Towers. Kerr Drummond. I lived in Kerr. [00:09:49] Speaker A: Oh, k. That's K E R R, you stupid cur. [00:09:54] Speaker B: Hey, I got some curs around here. [00:09:56] Speaker A: I think those. Are those still active? Surely not. [00:09:59] Speaker B: No, I think they were torn down. [00:10:01] Speaker A: They got demolished, Right? [00:10:01] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:10:02] Speaker A: Or were they hit by a plane? David? [00:10:06] Speaker B: I don't remember exactly. My sister. My sister lived in the ones that they tore down before we got there. That had the smoking room in them. Whoa. [00:10:19] Speaker A: Oh, what about Scott Parker? Wentz? My brother lived in that for a year. [00:10:24] Speaker B: Yeah, well, Wentz was still there. [00:10:27] Speaker A: Wentz was still there. [00:10:29] Speaker B: Scott Parker. [00:10:29] Speaker A: Wentz. And they're like mini curves. Yeah, they had like the two bedroom. Two, like bunk room. [00:10:34] Speaker B: Yeah. Wild man. Some hyperlocal. [00:10:41] Speaker A: One time when we were in college, we edited the OSU Wikipedia for Stout Hall. We said, home of Tristan Francis, who was my roommate. Just one of our eccentric friends. He was like a Kramer. It was up there for like six months before someone noticed. [00:10:55] Speaker B: Hey, I mean, it wasn't a lie. It was true. [00:10:59] Speaker A: It was true. It was just extraneous information. [00:11:02] Speaker B: Yeah. Very nice. [00:11:05] Speaker A: Yeah. I've never owned a PlayStation, David, so I'm very excited. [00:11:08] Speaker B: This is very. This is very cool. You've jumped. You've jumped to the. You've jumped. You're a Sony boy now, huh? They're excited about Their movie output. You like their Spiders man? Spiders Men. [00:11:21] Speaker A: I haven't seen the new one, but I can play the Spiders Men game. [00:11:24] Speaker B: Ooh, nice. Infinite Spiders. You know, I could play the Spider man game too. It's called I find a spider in the house. I put it on my shoulder. Hey, I'm Spider Man. Look at me. A man with a spider. [00:11:39] Speaker A: Did you see the new one? [00:11:40] Speaker B: I haven't yet, no. I'm waiting so I can watch it with Wanda, because I've heard that we should watch it in the theater because it's like you're actually flying around the. The skyline of New York City. And I was like, Wanda would not be able to do that. She gets. She gets motion sick pretty bad. [00:12:01] Speaker A: You should have taken her to 40x like we saw Revenge of the Sith. [00:12:07] Speaker B: I don't think I could stand a 40x of that. Oh boy. Oh boy. It's. It's intense. I don't know if it's an intensity I like though. I don't know. I do not know. But you know what else you can do video game wise, Johnny? Maybe not on your PlayStation, but. [00:12:27] Speaker A: Sorry, it's making me put in my address and shit. The little. [00:12:30] Speaker B: The little. A little bit of news that will be old by the time this episode comes out is the announcement of Spawn in Diablo Infinite. Diablo Immortal. Diablo Immortal? [00:12:45] Speaker A: Yes, of the mobile game, David. [00:12:47] Speaker B: The mobile game. You know, I know so much about games. I know that Diablo 2 is what made me realize I had anxiety and could never play video games. So. [00:12:57] Speaker A: Really? [00:12:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, Very exciting. [00:13:04] Speaker A: Okay, David, this is it. I'm making my gamertag. Ooo, change it to Oysterman. Or did I keep it Oyster Boy. [00:13:13] Speaker B: I mean, try for the boy. And if the boy isn't there, I mean, I guess. [00:13:16] Speaker A: Oh, they don't let you do space. They don't let you do space on what? [00:13:21] Speaker B: There's no space in PlayStation usernames. Just like this. Just like the cats in America. There's none of them. [00:13:31] Speaker A: Oyster voice unavailable even with underspace. [00:13:34] Speaker B: You should do. You should do in dash, underscore in dash or oyster. Oyster boy, parenthesis O, parenthesis. So you could be Oyster boy. O, but also the parentheses O, parentheses maybe looks a little bit like an oyster. Oyster boyo. [00:13:55] Speaker A: This is a big moment, David. [00:13:57] Speaker B: I mean, there's no. There's no going back. You gotta get it right the first time. [00:14:02] Speaker A: I got it, David. Guess what it is. I evolved. [00:14:06] Speaker B: Is it oyster slash Boy? [00:14:08] Speaker A: No, none of it. No slashes. The underscored. It wasn't Available. I was Mondo Zappa on 3Ds and I am now Oyster Mondo. [00:14:19] Speaker B: Oyster. Mondo. [00:14:20] Speaker A: Mondo is like a sub genre of movies and just means like, crazy or lurid. [00:14:27] Speaker B: Could have been you could have been the central scrutinizer. [00:14:31] Speaker A: No, I'm agreeing to the legal policy. I'm just gonna get past this point so I can start downloading this game or something. [00:14:39] Speaker B: Okay. Agreeing to legal policies while recording a podcast. Excellent. [00:14:47] Speaker A: I'll leave it alone. [00:14:48] Speaker B: That makes it. That makes this a poor man's. A poor man's copyright. [00:14:52] Speaker A: Sorry, what were we talking about? [00:14:54] Speaker B: I honestly don't know. [00:14:57] Speaker A: Mondo Zappa. [00:14:58] Speaker B: Mondo Zappa. Hell, yeah. [00:15:02] Speaker A: You know what I mean when I say Mondo film. Do you know what I'm talking about? [00:15:06] Speaker B: I've heard the phrase. I think I've. I've heard it more in reference. [00:15:10] Speaker A: It was like Mondo Kane, even like maybe a deal. Uncle Tom and Cannibal Holocaust are kind of early Mondo films. [00:15:16] Speaker B: Okay. [00:15:16] Speaker A: They also were just like. They were documentary footage, like lurid from around the world. You just do a lot of boobs and stuff. Okay. And they came in like the 70s, 60s, that. [00:15:27] Speaker B: That I. I can. I can recognize. [00:15:30] Speaker A: They basically invented the word Mondo, like, because Mondo Kane was like the first one. [00:15:35] Speaker B: Mondo Kane. Does that mean it's. It's a. It's a lurid. The guy who gives you your. Your quests and. And Diablo. [00:15:46] Speaker A: What about Kano? [00:15:47] Speaker B: David Kano? I know Kino. Kino was a Kano. Do I know Kano? [00:15:54] Speaker A: I love a Sonia. You want to fight in Mortal Kombat? Oh, the guy with the red eye. You don't like Mortal Kombat? It's probably being in your household. [00:16:08] Speaker B: Yeah, Yeah. I. I don't have much experience with Mortal Kombat past. Mortal Kombat 2, [00:16:16] Speaker A: the new movie, or the old Mortal Kombat 2? [00:16:18] Speaker B: Well, like the game. I haven't seen Mortal Kombat 2, the new one yet. [00:16:24] Speaker A: It's good. All right, but have you seen Mortal Kombat? The original? That movie fucking rules. [00:16:28] Speaker B: Yeah, we watched it at my house at a sleepover once and everybody fell [00:16:33] Speaker A: asleep, but still good. Yeah, dude, Christopher Lambert is Raiden all timer. [00:16:39] Speaker B: Yeah, Christopher. [00:16:40] Speaker A: You attacked my fighters before the tournament. [00:16:43] Speaker B: Christopher Lambert? I wonder if. Oh, he should have thrown some roles. [00:16:48] Speaker A: What? [00:16:49] Speaker B: Christopher Lambert? Lambert's Cafe Throw Rolls. [00:16:52] Speaker A: I think it's Christopher Lambert. What about Bill Lambert, the basketball player from the 90s? [00:16:58] Speaker B: I don't all about basketball. [00:17:01] Speaker A: I just remember because there was An SNES game called Bill Lambert's Combat Basketball. It was so shitty, the Blockbuster was selling it before anyone sold used games. They're selling it for 20 bucks. My brother, like saved up and put our money together. Video games, that's $20. So we owned Bill. He was like a semi famous white basketball player in the early 90s. We got a video game deal. [00:17:22] Speaker B: Interesting. [00:17:22] Speaker A: Bill Lambert's Combat Basketball in the future. It was like Mad Max and like people play basketball. We could like punch each other. It was a great game. [00:17:32] Speaker B: That's interesting. That's interesting. I remember watching some guys at the miniature shop play Warhammer football once. That was interesting. [00:17:43] Speaker A: Why don't let me verify? There we go. [00:17:46] Speaker B: What are you verifying? [00:17:47] Speaker A: A PlayStation address. [00:17:51] Speaker B: They send a drone to your house and you have to say, hi, drone. This is me. [00:17:55] Speaker A: I'm the PlayStation man. So let's get into it, David. [00:17:59] Speaker B: Yes. All right, let's do it. [00:18:03] Speaker A: Oh, my God. He's ready. Who's that? [00:18:05] Speaker B: That's all of them. Hold on a second. One of them's going crazy. [00:18:08] Speaker A: Oh, I'll keep updating my PlayStation. [00:18:14] Speaker B: Ginger has decided that when we sit down and record podcasts, that she's allowed to go crazy and make a whole bunch of noise and try to run away. She's silly. [00:18:23] Speaker A: She's silly. What isn't silly, really is Billy is King Swan 53. [00:18:31] Speaker B: It's not silly at all. [00:18:33] Speaker A: It's good, though. [00:18:34] Speaker B: It's. It's real good. Much like the the King spawns have been of late. This. This McConville Sennaar team is just killing it. Killing it. But before we get to the credits that are due, Johnny, we gotta cover the covers. [00:18:53] Speaker A: My PlayStation's still making fucking noises. I thought I muted it. Hold on. I was like, what is that Enya sounding music? [00:19:04] Speaker B: Sail away, sail away, sail away. [00:19:08] Speaker A: Okay. I was like, what is Enya doing? [00:19:10] Speaker B: What is Enya doing? What's she up to these days? [00:19:14] Speaker A: I don't know, I swear. Pure Moods was a banger of a commercial. [00:19:17] Speaker B: Yeah, it was. [00:19:22] Speaker A: My brother had a guy in his elementary school class, that song was popular. His last name was Lu. A L U A Y. And everyone safe. We wait to him all the time. [00:19:33] Speaker B: Oh, no, nothing. Nothing worse than being child with sticks out name when young. [00:19:40] Speaker A: Childhood meme. [00:19:43] Speaker B: Kids are cruel, Johnny. They're so cruel. [00:19:47] Speaker A: Everyone's just like. They'd hear my name, Johnny Fisher, and they'd be like, oh, like Bobby Fischer. Is that your brother? That's spelled with a C? Actually, [00:19:58] Speaker B: they don't Care, Johnny. They're dumb. They don't know how to spell. I don't know how to spell. Oh. [00:20:03] Speaker A: The weirdest reaction was ever I ever got to my name was at a drive thru in Chicago. I was going through McDonald's after work and I was picking up and I mobile ordered it. He was like, John Fisher. He's like, damn, that's a cool name. Like John Wick. I was like, he's like the name John. [00:20:23] Speaker B: Oh, man, the John Wick movies are on Pluto TV right now, Johnny. [00:20:28] Speaker A: Nice. [00:20:30] Speaker B: Speaking of, speaking of McDonald's, Johnny, have you gotten yourself a hello Kitty Godzilla crossover toy? I haven't, I've gotten, I've gotten a lot of them, but I've given most of them away because I don't need a whole bunch of them hanging around. [00:20:43] Speaker A: You get a lot of sammies repeats. [00:20:47] Speaker B: I get, I, I go to get multiple Happy Meals at once and then all of those will have the same in them, but I haven't gotten a lot of repeats. [00:20:55] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. When I was getting those mini McDonald's, I was getting two Happy Meals at once. [00:20:58] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:00] Speaker A: Housing them. [00:21:01] Speaker B: Yeah. But I, I, you know, if I get the, the water bottle that comes with it, then I've got water to drink throughout the day. And if I get all the stuff with no salt on it, I can just give it to the dogs. So it's a win. Win. [00:21:14] Speaker A: Just give it to the dogs. [00:21:15] Speaker B: The dogs fucking love a hamburger. [00:21:17] Speaker A: I bet. [00:21:19] Speaker B: And if I, if I change that, if I change that fucking second side from apples to an extra set of fries. Oh, boy, they're super happy. Yeah. [00:21:29] Speaker A: Happy is this issue of Spawn. It's like a David Fincher film. [00:21:32] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, it's. It's real gritty and grimy. [00:21:36] Speaker A: But let's start with the covers. I've got the. A cover. [00:21:40] Speaker B: Yep. [00:21:41] Speaker A: Francesca Matina. [00:21:42] Speaker B: It's a good cover. [00:21:43] Speaker A: And it's Spawn in like a catacombs. There's rats [00:21:52] Speaker B: and bats. [00:21:53] Speaker A: I also think of, when I think of the rats, I think of the quote from last octaves. Rats. My father never made it this far. He hates rats. It is pretty gross. They're like climbing down Ilsa's blouse. [00:22:07] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, they're like all over the place. [00:22:09] Speaker A: Oh, you gotta outgrow the bugs. How do you do that? Yeah, it's like. Well, hopefully they don't like rats. [00:22:13] Speaker B: I mean, you know, you don't outgrow the bugs because even gross. [00:22:17] Speaker A: I've tumbled. Doom's the grossest one. [00:22:19] Speaker B: Even, Even if you like bugs, that's too many bugs. That's too many bugs. You don't want to. You don't want to think about how outnumbered we are on this planet. If every bug rose up and had a gun, humans would be fucked. [00:22:34] Speaker A: What if they're all little cameras for aliens? [00:22:37] Speaker B: What bugs? [00:22:38] Speaker A: Yeah, [00:22:43] Speaker B: I kind of don't want to think about that either. [00:22:46] Speaker A: Like, to pilot a wasp in VR on their home planet is, like, really expensive because you can, like, people and, like, stay like, oh, this guy's got. He's, like, watching us and. Oh, he's allergic to wasps. Let's go. Sting. [00:22:59] Speaker B: Do you think? Really? Aliens. The aliens must be very bored if that's what they're doing. [00:23:04] Speaker A: Probably. Aren't we, David? [00:23:07] Speaker B: I mean, yeah, I guess. I guess that's what we. [00:23:09] Speaker A: I'm not bored, though. I don't have time to be bored. [00:23:14] Speaker B: That's. That is. Being bored is a luxury. Well, I mean, that makes one of us. [00:23:20] Speaker A: You're not a boring person. If you read, you'd, like, engage with society occasionally. [00:23:30] Speaker B: Sometimes. [00:23:31] Speaker A: Oh, my God. What's the B cover, David? [00:23:34] Speaker B: The B cover? The Kevin King. [00:23:36] Speaker A: Cover your blanket and tell me. [00:23:38] Speaker B: Old school. Old school. Original Spawn standing on a. On a rock that's in flames. And there's. Assuming he's on a rock in Central park because there's a New York City skyline in the backyard. Is that. No, no, no, no. [00:23:57] Speaker A: The original Mortal Kombat 2 movie. Mortal Kombat Annihilation. Because I also watched this. That this weekend. [00:24:04] Speaker B: Nice. [00:24:05] Speaker A: This last weekend. And the Twin Towers make an appearance. [00:24:09] Speaker B: Nice. They made a lot of appearances, Johnny. Yeah, There was that episode of the Simpsons where Homer kept trying to go to the bathroom. And they were like, no, it's in the other tower. And so he would go up and down and up. Oh, yeah, yeah, [00:24:26] Speaker A: I forgot about that. [00:24:27] Speaker B: There was that tightrope walker that did the tightrope walk. And then they made a movie. They made a movie out of it with fucking. What's his face from Nightcrawler. Was it that guy Jake Gyllenhaal? Jake Gyllenhaal? Was he the one that was in there? [00:24:43] Speaker A: No, that was. There was a documentary that was good. Then they made a movie movie. Oh, it was Jordan Gordon Lovett, whatever his name is. [00:24:50] Speaker B: Oh, Justin Gordon Levitt. [00:24:52] Speaker A: Yeah. He pisses me off. Yeah, he's all into AI and Boo Boo. He's just always been kind of a wanker. [00:25:01] Speaker B: Can't win them all. [00:25:04] Speaker A: But mainly, 500 days of summer ruined my image of it. [00:25:08] Speaker B: He was Cut. He was kind of a little wiener in that. [00:25:11] Speaker A: The movie's for wieners. The movie is a wiener. [00:25:15] Speaker B: It is. It is kind of a wiener. [00:25:19] Speaker A: Which. Which is better, but. Which is better. Which is more cringey between guard State and 500 Days of Summer. [00:25:24] Speaker B: Oh, I've not seen Garden State, so I can't. Whoa. [00:25:28] Speaker A: David, did you go to College in the 2000s? [00:25:31] Speaker B: I did, but I basically didn't watch this. I basically didn't watch a movie in college that wasn't. That wasn't a 90s slasher movie that I wasn't allowed to watch as a child. That's basically all I watched in college. [00:25:46] Speaker A: Yeah, I started in, like, 10th grade, two years ahead of you, bitch. [00:25:51] Speaker B: Yeah, that's a Freddy Krueger reference. Nice. Well, you know, the Freddy's. [00:25:58] Speaker A: Even the bad ones. [00:25:59] Speaker B: There are no bad ones. [00:26:01] Speaker A: It's true. They're all fun. [00:26:03] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:26:07] Speaker A: You watch backrooms yet? [00:26:08] Speaker B: I haven't yet, no. [00:26:09] Speaker A: You should watch that. It's good. [00:26:11] Speaker B: What's it. Is it out on streaming yet? [00:26:13] Speaker A: I think it's on HBO now. You don't have hbo. [00:26:15] Speaker B: I don't have HBO anymore, which sucks, because all the things I want to watch on it are on there now. But when I had it, there was nothing I wanted to. [00:26:22] Speaker A: After they canceled Taxi Cab Confessions, he got rid of it. [00:26:27] Speaker B: How dare they? I wanted to know those confessions. [00:26:29] Speaker A: You got it just for the Sex and the City reboot. [00:26:32] Speaker B: Oh, of course. [00:26:32] Speaker A: Which. I don't even know if it was on hbo. It might have been on another network. I don't even know. [00:26:37] Speaker B: I don't know. [00:26:37] Speaker A: And just like that, I haven't. [00:26:40] Speaker B: I never watched a full episode of Sex and the City either. [00:26:45] Speaker A: Well, I never watched a full episode. I'm kidding. [00:26:54] Speaker B: You turned it on and didn't like it and didn't finish the episode? [00:26:59] Speaker A: Sure. I mean, I was in seventh grade, David, when that show was popular. Eighth grade. [00:27:07] Speaker B: Do you watch it for the best character? The City. [00:27:09] Speaker A: It's a good show. [00:27:11] Speaker B: I've never seen it. But you just said you haven't watched the full episode. Wait, I'm confused now, Joe. [00:27:17] Speaker A: I was kidding. I was implying that I used to jerk off when I was in middle school. School is what I was implying. [00:27:23] Speaker B: I needed you to. I needed you to make the subtext [00:27:26] Speaker A: text, because that's how I does anyone that's under 33. You used to have to, like, hunt out boobs and tits. [00:27:35] Speaker B: Yeah. Used to. Used to hope that. Hope that your friends had parents that went to sleep at around the time that. [00:27:44] Speaker A: And they had HBO and Cinemax. [00:27:46] Speaker B: Well, not that they had HBO and Cinemax. Just that there was enough that you could see of the Cinemax. We watched a lot of fuzzy channels. A lot of fuzzy channels. [00:27:57] Speaker A: We one time my brother and I were flipping channels and we just caught this. It was on the pay per view channels. We got it completely clear. I guess like a neighborhood ordered it, I'm assuming. I don't know. Because, like, it was just a woman swimming around the ocean naked. And we were like, what? It was just on a pay per view channel. It was like clear as day. And it lasted like 25 minutes or so. [00:28:18] Speaker B: Dang. Lucky. You were lucky, John. [00:28:22] Speaker A: Lucky. [00:28:25] Speaker B: It took. It took so little. It took so little to bring us joy back then, but now. [00:28:32] Speaker A: Okay, now you're talking about wasting time, talking about shit. We're doing 30 minutes. [00:28:36] Speaker B: I was about to say now it [00:28:37] Speaker A: takes a full credits. [00:28:38] Speaker B: Now it takes a full team of people to bring us joy, Johnny. That's what I was getting. That. [00:28:42] Speaker A: Okay. [00:28:43] Speaker B: And this full. This full team of people. Who's. Who's bringing us this wonderful king spawn number 53. Johnny. [00:28:48] Speaker A: First of all, I want to highlight. In the left, we have the king spawn number one, the iconic cover, the puppeteer Le. Puppeteer Le. Always nice touch. [00:28:59] Speaker B: Yes. [00:28:59] Speaker A: Script plot by Rory McConville. Todd McFarland. Additional script. He had to get his little toddies in there. His hot toddies. [00:29:09] Speaker B: I haven't caught it yet. [00:29:11] Speaker A: We'll see. [00:29:11] Speaker B: I haven't caught it. [00:29:12] Speaker A: Art by Yildre Senar. Colors by Ivan Nunes. Lettering by Anim World Design. We already covered the covers. [00:29:18] Speaker B: Sure did. [00:29:19] Speaker A: Creative director is Todd McFarlane. Editor in Chief is Thomas Healy. Previously in King Spawn. Spawn continues his hunt for wayward demons, wrecking havoc in the human world. Or is it reeking? It's reeking. [00:29:34] Speaker B: It's wreaking. Yeah. Because wrecking would be our W R E. C K you. I don't know how to spell either, Johnny. That's the funny part. [00:29:45] Speaker A: We're keeping both in. We're doubling it. Spawn continues his hunt for wayward demons wreaking havoc in the human world. Maybe I was just expecting there to be a typo. [00:29:57] Speaker B: It's because you read the other one. [00:29:59] Speaker A: Yeah. I was like, oh, it must be a typo. [00:30:02] Speaker B: The previously on and the other issue for this episode is so bad. [00:30:05] Speaker A: Oh, Jesus, [00:30:07] Speaker B: Johnny. It is well to describe. [00:30:09] Speaker A: It is the first words of this issue. What a mess. [00:30:13] Speaker B: Yeah. So we open on a battered face of a guy who's sitting across from a well dressed man at a table. It's in an interrogation room. [00:30:27] Speaker A: And this David Fincher. Greens and low lighting detectives. [00:30:36] Speaker B: This the detectives like. So you're one of some weird spawn fanboy, ain't you? [00:30:44] Speaker A: I love that. Yeah, it's nice. I thought it was gonna be about me, David. Or maybe it is. [00:30:50] Speaker B: Well, I mean, you like to see yourself in the art you consume, so that's true. Or the media you consume. And the guy says, sex in the city. You like to see yourself in that, too, Jonah. You like to see yourself as that city. [00:31:06] Speaker A: I am a Charlotte. You're a Miranda. [00:31:11] Speaker B: Okay, I'll take your word for it. It's like we're talking about horoscope stuff. [00:31:15] Speaker A: You're a Miranda. 100%. [00:31:18] Speaker B: I'll have to look up what that means. [00:31:20] Speaker A: Oh, no, don't offense. [00:31:27] Speaker B: And this guy says, I'm not a fan. I'm one of his soldiers. He's a no limit soldier, Johnny. Signed by master P in 92. And so the detective's like, well, please enlighten me. How did you come to work for him? And the guy tells a story about how his mom was hit by a drunk driver and was left brain dead. And that drunk driver was. [00:31:54] Speaker A: He got off scot free. [00:31:56] Speaker B: Got off scot free because he was part of a big pharmaceutical family in [00:32:01] Speaker A: the area, and they were just really rich and they controlled everything. The guy that did, it's just like leaving smiling. [00:32:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:32:09] Speaker A: And this pale is all this time, David. Yeah. [00:32:11] Speaker B: The rich. The rich get richer. And this guy just fucking gets. [00:32:16] Speaker A: Matthew Broderick, [00:32:19] Speaker B: he gets rich. Oh. Oh, I get. I get what you're talking about. [00:32:22] Speaker A: You know? [00:32:22] Speaker B: You know he did. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He. [00:32:24] Speaker A: He killed two people. [00:32:25] Speaker B: He killed two people. Yeah. I don't think he was drunk droid riding in Ireland. I think it was because he was driving too fast in Ireland and forgot what side of the road he was supposed to be on. But it was like he was like 24 at the time or some. [00:32:38] Speaker A: I don't think he was that young. [00:32:39] Speaker B: Oh, I. I know he was young because he had. It was like very shortly after Ferris Bueller's day off, I think. [00:32:46] Speaker A: Oh, damn. He needed to go to school. [00:32:48] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:32:49] Speaker A: Driving school. [00:32:49] Speaker B: Yeah. Stop being. Stop having a day off. Life comes at you fast, Johnny. [00:32:57] Speaker A: That's a big Chicago movie. [00:33:01] Speaker B: That guy's kind of a wiener. [00:33:03] Speaker A: Yeah. Ferris Bueller sucks as you voted for Trump. Probably. Probably. But it's a good movie. [00:33:10] Speaker B: It's fun. [00:33:12] Speaker A: He's not a He's not a wiener. In like a 500 days of summer, that guy's a wiener. I don't know. He's like a. He's just taking advantage of a situation. [00:33:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:33:22] Speaker A: And you get Cameron in there. We all love Cameron. [00:33:25] Speaker B: Yeah, I guess he's kind of a. Kind of a pest. Yeah. [00:33:31] Speaker A: He's a past. [00:33:32] Speaker B: He's a. [00:33:32] Speaker A: He's a rich kid, David. [00:33:34] Speaker B: He's. He's an enabler. He's a. He's a peer pressurizer. [00:33:40] Speaker A: Just a. Cameron. [00:33:42] Speaker B: That dude was sick. That dude was sick, Johnny. [00:33:45] Speaker A: He got him to have a great day and ruin his life. [00:33:48] Speaker B: That's true. [00:33:49] Speaker A: But speaking of ruin lives, Elliot here. [00:33:52] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:33:52] Speaker A: Like there's nothing you can do. And so he's just delivering pizzas. He's hustling, trying to pay off these medical bills, but he can't afford it. [00:33:58] Speaker B: Can't. Can't afford it. [00:34:00] Speaker A: She died. [00:34:01] Speaker B: She dies. And then he just snaps. And so he decides to take matters into his own hands. [00:34:06] Speaker A: And so decides to do a Luigi Mangione. [00:34:09] Speaker B: Yeah. He puts on the ski mask of breaking and entering and goes to this dude's mansion and breaks in and. Oh, he finds the sky. [00:34:18] Speaker A: He's already dead. [00:34:19] Speaker B: He's already dead. [00:34:20] Speaker A: Someone already shot him twice. Once in the head. [00:34:23] Speaker B: Yeah. And then he gets greeted with a who the fuck are you? It should be noted, Johnny, because it's important. [00:34:30] Speaker A: Oh, yes. [00:34:33] Speaker B: And regular speech bubble. [00:34:35] Speaker A: There's no Spawn speech bubble. Clue. And it's faithful readers. [00:34:39] Speaker B: It's coming from Spawn with a gun. Ah. [00:34:43] Speaker A: Well, when I first read, I was like, why did you stand there with a gun? He wouldn't kill the guy with a gun. [00:34:47] Speaker B: Yeah, I thought the same thing. [00:34:50] Speaker A: His own oysters, if you know what I'm saying. [00:34:54] Speaker B: I go, I get what you're laying down, Johnny. And so. So Elliot. Elliot tells this Spawn everything. He's like, this. This piece of shit ruined my mom's life, and I came here to make him pay. And Spawn's like, okay, I see. I see. And so Elliot's like, so you're Spawn. What are you. What are you doing here? And Spawn says, I'm gathering information on Dune. He was involved in a lot of twisted stuff. Like metal. He was involved in twisted metal, Johnny. [00:35:24] Speaker A: Oh, my God. Speaking of PlayStation. [00:35:26] Speaker B: Yeah. Nice. [00:35:28] Speaker A: That was a good game. [00:35:29] Speaker B: Good series. That was a very good game. Okay. And so. So Elliot, just, like in the middle of this conversation, starts taking his mask off. And it's just like, so what. What are you doing? What are you up to Spawn just like, hey, some people are gonna be here before too long. Put that mask back on, bud. And [00:35:53] Speaker A: good reference to, like, Swan 3:50 era. Like, 347, six or even there. [00:36:01] Speaker B: I mean, hasn't he been on TV? [00:36:02] Speaker A: 300, 300, 300, 300. Oh, my God. Oh, David. Jesus. How. [00:36:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:36:08] Speaker A: So much fun. [00:36:09] Speaker B: He's been on TV a lot, though. [00:36:12] Speaker A: But he's referring, like, the. Around the issue 300 times. [00:36:15] Speaker B: Yeah. And Elliot's like, I remember. I remember him talking on TV and being like, that guy's got some good points. And then. And then he. He follows Spawn to a very comic book lair room with a room. Computer screen. Computer screen. Computer screen takes up a whole wall. [00:36:39] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:36:40] Speaker B: And Spawn's like, this is the Golden Order. It's a group of billionaires who've been secretly running America for the last 50 years. [00:36:47] Speaker A: Very Jeffrey Epstein coded. [00:36:49] Speaker B: Yeah. And Elliot is just, like, unimaginable things to people. [00:36:55] Speaker A: There's images of, like, snipers, Charlie, Kirk, people in cages. Epstein, cult sacrifices. All of them. [00:37:04] Speaker B: All of them. And Elliot just. [00:37:07] Speaker A: Hillary Clinton ate a baby. [00:37:09] Speaker B: Just hook, line, and sinker. [00:37:11] Speaker A: David's, like, getting uncomfortable. [00:37:13] Speaker B: I'm trying to remember that Simpsons episode where they've got the hippie and the hippie with the baby sandwich. [00:37:21] Speaker A: You've watched a lot of Simpsons lately or something? [00:37:23] Speaker B: No, it's just. That's one of the something. [00:37:26] Speaker A: Were you allowed to watch the Simpsons, though? [00:37:28] Speaker B: Nope, not. Basically, by the time I was allowed to watch the Simpsons, it got bad, and I just didn't want to watch it. [00:37:36] Speaker A: But you should. Your mom would have loved it. Your parents. It's very smart, Johnny. It was past the rude crew. [00:37:43] Speaker B: It was. It was rude, crude and tacky. Like, even. Even my dad had to make sure my mom wasn't home when he tried to watch it. [00:37:51] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh. Your mom's like. Like, 90s mom, dude. [00:37:55] Speaker B: I mean, she was a 90s mom. [00:37:57] Speaker A: I know my mom was like that. But then we'd be like, come on, watch it with us. It's good. And she'd be like, all right, you can watch it. It's fine. [00:38:03] Speaker B: I didn't. I didn't have the wherewithal or the sort of gumption to do that. I wish I had. It would have helped me a lot now. Yeah, but so then Spawn's like, I need soldiers like you, Elliot. [00:38:19] Speaker A: And so I got soul, but I'm not a soldier. [00:38:22] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:38:24] Speaker A: I didn't actually say that. That's a song. [00:38:26] Speaker B: Elliot. Elliot follows him to like an underground lair where there's a whole bunch of. Whole bunch of other people who have a shared desire to free this country. Johnny. [00:38:34] Speaker A: All different walks of life. There's like a. There's Ash Ketchums in the far left. [00:38:38] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:38:40] Speaker A: A pizza delivery guy. Like a nerdy guy. Like Mom. [00:38:44] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:38:44] Speaker A: Young girl like Daisy. Really looking girl. Whole different background of funds. [00:38:50] Speaker B: Yeah. And they spent the next few months devoted to the mission. Johnny. Elliot started sleeping at the warehouse. He ate, drank, breathed, slept. Golden Order. And then we see that they do some target practice. And Elliot was like. While we were preparing for our mission, Spawn was able to take away some of the lower level members of the Golden Order. So everything was going good. We were gonna meet them at their annual retreat at the Redwood Hotel in New York. And we're gonna take care of them all at once. And then they killed Spawn. They killed Spawn. [00:39:33] Speaker A: They watch on their phones. They're like, what? [00:39:35] Speaker B: Yeah. And they're like, what do we do? What do we do? And Elliot. Elliot is the one who. Who rallies the troops. And he's like, no, Spawn may be dead, but he wouldn't want us to abandon our mission. Spawn's death won't be in vain. And so then they. [00:39:53] Speaker A: They get them all fired up. [00:39:55] Speaker B: Yeah. If anything, they were more determined at this point. Johnny. And so they. They go to the hotel and like classic. Classic gangster, long trench coat, they fight their way to this. This meeting of the Golden Order that is happening. And they bust in and it's just. It's just a party. This is the party. It's just some people milling around at a party. And then this group just opens fire on them. Kills everybody. They're like, ah, David Fincher. [00:40:27] Speaker A: Because they're like in a tactical gear. [00:40:29] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:40:30] Speaker A: And like shooting up at a hotel. I don't know, like Fight Club taking even worse. [00:40:35] Speaker B: Yeah. We get a. We get a nice. A nice little panel run here of just like some terrible, terrible carnage. [00:40:45] Speaker A: That's crazy. I was like, damn, they're really going this far. [00:40:48] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:40:48] Speaker A: And then Spawns has its roots in that because, remember there was the government, like, public shootings in Kingspawn 1, right? [00:40:56] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:40:57] Speaker A: It was like the inciting incident. [00:40:59] Speaker B: Yeah. And I had that crazy, crazy fucking. That crazy fucking art with those great two page spreads. [00:41:06] Speaker A: Oh, man. Dude. Looking into a diorama. [00:41:11] Speaker B: So fucking. So fucking trippy. And then they're just like, holy shit, we actually did it. We saved the fucking world. And then some of these people they just gunned down start getting up and they're demons, Johnny. And they start attacking, and Elliot's able to kill a couple of them. But very few of them. Very few of the team survive. [00:41:35] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:41:38] Speaker B: And then. And then we cut back to. It's Elliot talking to the detective, and he's telling him. He's like, but very soon, the world's gonna know the truth. Because before we went to this meeting of the Golden Order, we dropped tapes off at the news, and the news is going to read the off, and everybody's gonna know we didn't. We saved everyone. [00:41:55] Speaker A: Like, David watches the news every day. [00:41:57] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:41:58] Speaker A: David's like. He's like. Gets home, he's got a pot roast waiting for him, and he's like, pull up the news on the television. [00:42:07] Speaker B: Give me the clicker. [00:42:09] Speaker A: That's the plot of Disclosure Days to get a hard drive to cnn. [00:42:14] Speaker B: Interesting. [00:42:15] Speaker A: You think they would just upload it to the Internet? [00:42:17] Speaker B: Yeah, you think. Think. But. But you can't trust everything you see on the Internet, Johnny. [00:42:22] Speaker A: But you can't trust everything you see on cable news. [00:42:26] Speaker B: That's true. Because there's a. There's a water skiing squirrel, Johnny. Holy shit. [00:42:30] Speaker A: There is. [00:42:32] Speaker B: I mean, there is occasionally. Every once in a while. Have you not. Have you not seen the water skiing, skiing squirrel? That was. That was big in, like, the 90s. And it was just. It wasn't even really water skiing. It was just like being pulled around on a little platform. [00:42:48] Speaker A: I thought you were saying it wasn't even really a squirrel. [00:42:50] Speaker B: Oh, no, it was just really a squirrel, but it wasn't really water skiing. And then the detective's like, actually, they're not gonna publish that. Nobody's ever gonna hear about this or what you did, because there was no Golden Order. There never was. And then Elliot's like, you're wrong, Spawn. Spawn wouldn't. And the detective goes, that bastard wasn't Spawn. And then we see Johnny. We see Johnny. [00:43:15] Speaker A: The detective transforms. [00:43:17] Speaker B: The. The Spawn. The Spawn speech bubble shows up for the first time in this issue. [00:43:22] Speaker A: Yes. And the detective transforms to a horrifyingly mad spawn. [00:43:26] Speaker B: Oh, Jesus. He's so fucking frightening. [00:43:29] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:43:30] Speaker B: That bastard wasn't Spawn. I am since you. You were played, you idiot. That was a demon who pretended to be me and manipulated you and others to do his bidding. Because this demon wasn't allowed to attack other demons on Earth. And so he recruited susceptible humans to do. [00:43:52] Speaker A: And he looks like just a crazy guy in a cloak. [00:43:55] Speaker B: Yeah, [00:43:57] Speaker A: he was like, kind of a Fleabiac cousin, maybe. [00:44:00] Speaker B: Yeah. Because Elliot's like, but. But but he died. And Spawn is like, nope, he's still out there. And he's just, like, in an alley. [00:44:11] Speaker A: I did it. [00:44:14] Speaker B: And Elliot is. Elliot is just distraught and, you know, overwhelmed. And he says, please, please have pity on me. I thought it was helping. And Spawn's like, oh, absolutely not. Absolutely not. You will pay. You will pay for you. You can. You can help others now by living out the rest of your life in these shadows. And he, like, sucks them into his [00:44:43] Speaker A: cape, and he's just in the darkness by himself. [00:44:47] Speaker B: The world can't afford for you to ever be duped again. Oh, then we get the opening reading. Your mother would be so disappointed. [00:44:57] Speaker A: Oh, my God. [00:45:00] Speaker B: We have the King Spawn crown. Damnation. [00:45:03] Speaker A: Never trust a demon. [00:45:04] Speaker B: Never. Never trust a demon. Huh? Fairness. Need more sponsor universe, Johnny. [00:45:14] Speaker A: Always. [00:45:15] Speaker B: All right, well, they don't miss the ongoing titles because look, they got the best book ever right there. Scorch number 50, our favorite. Wow. Got the Call of Duty Spawn toy and looking pretty good. Got the Witchblade ad there. Got the McFarlane sports pick as the back of the issue ad there. And that is kingspawn53, Johnny. [00:45:40] Speaker A: There it is. [00:45:42] Speaker B: Beautiful. Beautiful. Wonderful. [00:45:45] Speaker A: Let me click on something on my PlayStation and we'll be right back. Next up we have gunslinger 51, and it is. Oh, my God, here we go. [00:46:13] Speaker B: It is an immaculate issue, Johnny. [00:46:15] Speaker A: It's immaculate. Well, let's talk about these covers. I have the A cover. You've got Kevin King. [00:46:24] Speaker B: It is a great coverage with Steve Cannon. [00:46:26] Speaker A: Is gunslinger walking away from Explosion. [00:46:28] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, it's badass. He's just a badass. It's so good. And. Well, Johnny, what. What next? What. What's gonna happen next? [00:46:41] Speaker A: You're gonna read about the B cover. [00:46:43] Speaker B: I'm gonna do what? [00:46:45] Speaker A: The B cover. [00:46:45] Speaker B: I'm gonna. I'm gonna. I'm gonna what? I'm gonna roll. I'm gonna roll that beautiful B footage. [00:46:51] Speaker A: Roll that beautiful bee footage. [00:46:53] Speaker B: Nice. Well, I've got the. The B cover by Vaughn Randall, and it's. [00:46:57] Speaker A: Well, in honor of 911. Let's roll that beautiful bee footage. [00:47:04] Speaker B: Mission accomplished. It's a gunslinger sitting on a chair, smoking a cig. [00:47:15] Speaker A: I thought he's giving the peace sign, pointing a gun. [00:47:19] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, it's a cool cover. It's a very cool cover. He's very creepy. [00:47:25] Speaker A: He's not creepy. He seems kind of chill. [00:47:27] Speaker B: Well, he's got the creepy. Creepy little. [00:47:32] Speaker A: Yeah, he's got a creepy face. Yeah, yeah. [00:47:34] Speaker B: Creepy face. Let's just say. [00:47:37] Speaker A: Speaking of creepy Face. Let's do the credits. [00:47:39] Speaker B: Yeah. All right. Let's, let's. [00:47:41] Speaker A: We have creepy face. Script plot by Tom. [00:47:45] Speaker B: That's true. We got art by Kohler. Barberry. Barberry. Sorry. Colors by Ivan Nunes. We've been doing this for so long, Johnny, we're allowed to mess up from time to time. And by from time to time, I mean all the time. [00:47:57] Speaker A: That's all we do. [00:47:58] Speaker B: From all the time to all the time. Lettering by Tom Wozykowski. We covered the covers. Creative Director is Todd McFarlane and editor in chief is Thomas Healy. And I'm gonna. I'm gonna read this as written, Johnny. [00:48:12] Speaker A: Okay. As written. [00:48:13] Speaker B: As written. Previously in Gunslinger, Javi was fortunate that the plague spawn chose not to absorb him as its new host, giving the gunslinger a chance to escape and get back to his mission to locate and rescue his friend Linda. I'm. I'm excited to learn about giving the gunslinger. [00:48:33] Speaker A: Yeah. It should have been a comma. [00:48:35] Speaker B: Yeah. Instead of that period. [00:48:37] Speaker A: Yeah. It's a proper noun. [00:48:39] Speaker B: Yeah. Giving. Giving. [00:48:40] Speaker A: Oh, my God. [00:48:41] Speaker B: Giving. The gunslinger. It's giving gunslinger, Jeff. [00:48:45] Speaker A: It's giving gunslinger. It's giving gunslinger. To me, [00:48:49] Speaker B: it's given. To Shane, it's given. Roland. [00:48:52] Speaker A: It's given the man with no name. I like the poncho that the man with no name has. [00:48:58] Speaker B: It's good. Poncho. Is that a real poncho or is that like a Sears poncho? [00:49:04] Speaker A: Is that a real poncho? Oh, my God. They start working up on that baby seal with a lead filled snowshoe. [00:49:13] Speaker B: He went upside the head with my favorite baby seal [00:49:17] Speaker A: and he went down. He scooped down, he went down, went down again. [00:49:27] Speaker B: So we open on exterior. Night. Motor hotel. [00:49:33] Speaker A: A motel. [00:49:34] Speaker B: A motor hotel. That's what motel is short for. [00:49:38] Speaker A: I know what it is. I know it is. Do we drive up? [00:49:44] Speaker B: Yeah. Where you just drive right into the room. The room is a garage. [00:49:48] Speaker A: I remember we went and visited my aunt Kathy when she lives in wyoming in the 90s. We all took like two vans and the whole family went up there and stayed. We stayed at a motel called the Lamplight Inn with big plastic signs all over. Two signs in the bathroom that said, do not use the towels to clean your guns or boots. [00:50:08] Speaker B: That's the kind of charm we're missing in this day and age, Johnny, where everything is ubiquitous. [00:50:13] Speaker A: Sometimes they have an arcade machine in the lobby. Sometimes they have like a candy machine, like a vending machine. [00:50:20] Speaker B: They always get that same smell. No matter where you go. [00:50:24] Speaker A: Sex and death. [00:50:26] Speaker B: It's Interesting. Some cigarettes too, occasionally. [00:50:30] Speaker A: Oh, of course. [00:50:30] Speaker B: And we start off with a. For one room, Just one. Seems like robbery, don't it? And we got. We got Javi as the old man that he just killed, the old businessman trying to rent a room at this motel. And the guy at the desk, remember [00:50:47] Speaker A: between all the issue 50. [00:50:49] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I guess. I guess where we pick up here is he was. [00:50:55] Speaker A: He was attacked by plank spawn. He got away. [00:50:57] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:50:58] Speaker A: Two issues before he had taken over an old man. [00:51:01] Speaker B: Yeah, cuz he had. He was. He was like some sort of drug boss and he took over his body and then like toppled his empire, Right? [00:51:12] Speaker A: Yeah, sure. [00:51:13] Speaker B: Yeah. And so. So he's got. He's got. He's got. He's got active camouflage on. And guts. [00:51:19] Speaker A: Like in my day it was 50 cents. And you got a bath and a nice place to sleep. [00:51:26] Speaker B: Just clicks like. Must be really old. Then he's like. I mean, if you don't like it, you can go down, you know, down this a few miles away. They'll charge you $500 a night. And he's like, $500 to do nothing but sleep. And then Javi's just like, okay, here, I think I have enough. [00:51:45] Speaker A: Or you pay me 72. Which. 72 bucks for a night? [00:51:48] Speaker B: Not bad. Not bad. I mean, it's still. It's no. Jesus Christ. I remember when motel rooms were like 24 bucks. [00:51:56] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, David, you went to a lot of motel rooms. [00:51:59] Speaker B: No, it's just we had to drive by all the motels in my hometown to get into town, and we would always look at the signs and it said 24 bucks. Yeah, it was like 24 bucks with HBO, I think. I think you paid a couple more bucks to get the ones with hbo. You had to go to the. You had to go to the Ramada for that instead of the Motel 6. Yeah, the Ramada had a pool. People in my hometown would have birthday parties at the Ramada where they would just rent rooms so they could go to the pool. [00:52:29] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:52:30] Speaker B: Especially in the winter. Yeah, there's nothing. There's nothing like a delivery pizza in a hotel room or a motel room. It just. It's just completely different. Like eating it on that fucking uncomfortable comforter on the bed, watching TV in the super cold room. [00:52:50] Speaker A: Are you talking about a hooker? Pizza. [00:52:53] Speaker B: Pizza. [00:52:57] Speaker A: I'm just trying to set the tone for the issue because both Johnny. Oh, my God. So Javi pulls out. Javi, the old man body pulls out. He's like 70 bucks. Okay, is this enough? And he pulls out like $2,000. [00:53:09] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. And the guy at the desk, like, maybe, maybe don't flash all that cash around, bud. And then. [00:53:16] Speaker A: And then at room two at this very motor hotel, yeah. [00:53:20] Speaker B: We see the door open and this lady runs out and this big fat slob guy comes out after and he's like, ah, you get your back. [00:53:26] Speaker A: It's not just a lady, David. It's like a buck sleep some. It's a sexy lady. [00:53:31] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it is. [00:53:33] Speaker A: She's coded sexy. [00:53:34] Speaker B: Yes. And she's running out. She's. She says, jimmy, help. I can't. He's hurting me bad. And Jimmy's just like, oh, well, it gave me a lot of money. Okay, so you just deal with it. [00:53:46] Speaker A: Oh, God. We're gonna talk about this. [00:53:48] Speaker B: Oh, Jesus Christ. So Jimmy's obviously a pimp. Not sure. I'm not sure that this lady is in his employ of her own volition. [00:54:00] Speaker A: He's a sex trafficker. [00:54:02] Speaker B: Yeah. This guy, this. This big guy and his brother are not treating her real nice. [00:54:07] Speaker A: Desperation. [00:54:08] Speaker B: True. We do hear a little bit of her story. So not a good situation for her to be in because of the clientele and her boss. So sex work is real work, but [00:54:19] Speaker A: this is, [00:54:22] Speaker B: this is not consensual in any way, shape or form, it seems. But this big guy and his brother, they pay a lot to do what they want to do and not very many people can take it. So gross. And so Javi just like doop, do do do do do do do do up to his door and he's like, is there a problem? This big dude says, mind your own business and hobby. [00:54:49] Speaker A: Just Sundays, I was nine panel. [00:54:51] Speaker B: I was asking the lady. They're a problem, man. It's just like face to face to face to face to face. It's like he looked at her and she looked at him. And she looked at him again and he looked at her. He looked at him. [00:55:04] Speaker A: It's true. She's like crying. [00:55:06] Speaker B: Yeah. Big longheads, like, now fuck off. And Javi's just like, you know, I didn't ask your opinion. I let the girl go. I won't ask you twice. [00:55:20] Speaker A: Then he's like, elroy, which is, yeah, come out here and fetch the girl. [00:55:26] Speaker B: And he pulls a knife on. On Javi. Javi says, I'm not looking for trouble. And he says, too late. [00:55:31] Speaker A: And then a very seven like, gluttony coated David. [00:55:35] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:55:37] Speaker A: Or Brendan Frazier and the whale looking man in white boxers. [00:55:42] Speaker B: Yeah, and even, and even an even grosser Individual comes out, grabs the lady's wrists, and says, I'll be inside. [00:55:53] Speaker A: Oh, boy. [00:55:56] Speaker B: And, you know, the guy holding the knife to Javi, Javi says, maybe I made a mistake. And the guy says, you sure shit did. So Javi's like, would this help? And he pulls out just a fat stack of hundreds. I got more in my room, old man. And Javi says, I'm just. I'm just next door. Close the door behind you, would you? And then we cut to the bigger disgustinger brother saying disgusting her things. And we'll just. [00:56:26] Speaker A: We'll just gets crazy. He, like, implies that she, like, starts. She takes off her shirt and starts giving him a blowjob. [00:56:31] Speaker B: I was. I was gonna skip over that. What are you doing, Todd? Yeah. [00:56:35] Speaker A: Oh, to go that far. [00:56:37] Speaker B: No. [00:56:38] Speaker A: Yeah, it was weird. [00:56:39] Speaker B: It's. It's real. It's real. It's real weird. It's. It's uncomfortable making. [00:56:43] Speaker A: It's really weird, man. Like, this is. I was like. [00:56:45] Speaker B: Todd, I was like, what the is this? [00:56:48] Speaker A: But, like, you can. You can make it more disturbing by keeping it in the shot. I don't know. Like, it's just really well lit, and it's just, like, really bright. It's like, what the Am I reading? Yeah, this big, like, blob guy get the blow job from someone against her will. But. But don't worry. Demon hands come through the wall. Yeah. [00:57:10] Speaker B: They smash through. They grab him. They grab him by his chin and just thump him through. Then. And then we see. [00:57:19] Speaker A: Okay, can I ask you, before you read this, what does he make them promise him? [00:57:25] Speaker B: I don't. I don't know. [00:57:27] Speaker A: Could read this. [00:57:29] Speaker B: Yeah, well. But first, I like. I like how it's set up, because we're seeing. We're seeing Javi holding this guy by his neck through the hole in the wall, and his brother's tied up and hanging upside down behind him. You want to just read the whole thing? [00:57:44] Speaker A: No. [00:57:44] Speaker B: Oh, but what is. [00:57:45] Speaker A: He goes, look, blah, blah, blah. There's a chance I'm gonna let you go, but before I do, I need you and your brother here to promise. [00:57:54] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:57:55] Speaker A: And I won't ever lay eyes on you again. Can you do that? But what do they promise? They never show what he promises. [00:57:59] Speaker B: Yeah, he doesn't. He doesn't. He just. He just says, you know, if you understand grunt, and, you know, it's like [00:58:07] Speaker A: a first draft where we forgot to tell them what to promise. [00:58:11] Speaker B: I was so confused. [00:58:12] Speaker A: I'm serious. Yeah, that's what it reminds. It's like, he's supposed to promise you you'll never harm a sex worker again. Or like something like that. Yeah, but it's just not in there. [00:58:22] Speaker B: Yeah, it's not. [00:58:23] Speaker A: I thought it was gonna be real revealed later. It's not. [00:58:25] Speaker B: No. Like a flashback to this is what he made him promise. [00:58:30] Speaker A: I mean, it's not outside with time. It's not out of the question. [00:58:35] Speaker B: But. [00:58:36] Speaker A: So instead of front, if you understand my. You have to promise. But I'm not gonna tell you what. See, that's a shit. I would be like, no, tell me what it's gonna be. [00:58:44] Speaker B: Yeah, that's true. And then he's like, also to make sure, just to show you I ain't bluffing, watch what I do to your brother's gun. Now imagine that trick on your skull. [00:58:54] Speaker A: He crushes his gun and he's like, imagine on your skull. This is so goofy. And then they run up. What do they promise? [00:59:01] Speaker B: What did. [00:59:01] Speaker A: They don't show what they promised. They show the brothers running out. [00:59:04] Speaker B: Yeah. Then he's just like. He just, like, takes off his hat like he's just gotten home, and he's like, damn vultures. And he flops into bed. [00:59:11] Speaker A: That bugged me so much, I didn't recover for the rest of this issue because they didn't say what the promise was. [00:59:16] Speaker B: And then I like. I like how the. The lady goes around and knocks on the door instead of just like. Instead of just like, stepping through the [00:59:24] Speaker A: hole in the wall or running away screaming. [00:59:30] Speaker B: Puts on his old man. His old man outfit real quick before opening the door. And she's like, I just wanted to say thank you, Mr. Thanks. [00:59:37] Speaker A: And then he creepily watches her sleep all the time. [00:59:40] Speaker B: He's like, you. Yeah, he's like, you okay? Come on in here. I'll. You know, you could be safe in here. And after some Karen conversation. Johnny. Caring conversation. I wanted to hear what that caring conversation was. [00:59:54] Speaker A: That's my. That's my band name, Caring conversation. That's my PlayStation name. [01:00:00] Speaker B: Oh, shit. Overly aggressively nice on Mike, but, yeah, Javi just like. So I like how it's. Javi convinces the young woman to stay the night in his room. He watches over her until sunrise. And I like how the tableau. She's in the bed, and he's just. He's just in the chair, grumpy, like. Like he didn't. Like he didn't get dessert. He's so grumpy. [01:00:31] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:00:31] Speaker B: And then. And then she wakes up, and she's like, what time is it? Have you Been there all night. And he's like, I don't know what time it is, lady. [01:00:39] Speaker A: You got some family you meet up with? She's like, nope. [01:00:41] Speaker B: Yep. [01:00:43] Speaker A: She's like, to be the person they wanted her to be. [01:00:46] Speaker B: Yeah, she shouldn't. That. There's some. [01:00:49] Speaker A: There's a great Todd McFarlane line. [01:00:51] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:00:51] Speaker A: What makes you so brave? Have you been binge binging? Been binging all those macho. Wait, what is it? [01:00:57] Speaker B: Been binging all the Netflix macho shows. [01:01:00] Speaker A: What? A normal 25 year old says, yeah, you watch those Netflix macho shows. [01:01:05] Speaker B: Yeah, but we do get. We do get Javier's favorite thing to say. I don't know what you mean. I don't know what you mean. [01:01:12] Speaker A: I just. I love that line. Reminds me of like they're dubbing an anime. Need to fill it up. So, like all those macho Netflix shows, [01:01:19] Speaker B: like, yeah, and then watch that. [01:01:22] Speaker A: You watch that clip I sent you, right? [01:01:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:25] Speaker A: Hey, who am I? [01:01:26] Speaker B: What do you mean? [01:01:27] Speaker A: What am I? The mailman, I was cracking up. He's like, he's like, please take this letter to your brother. And he's like, no, I'm not going to do it. Why should I? [01:01:37] Speaker B: Have some candy. Okay, I'll do it. [01:01:42] Speaker A: That shows I got the complete series and it's awesome. I watched the first seven or eight episodes. Oh, yeah. So the original 60s. 66 or 67. [01:01:52] Speaker B: Damn it. It looks. It looks great for 60s. [01:01:55] Speaker A: I mean, it was one of the few animes they brought to America at that time. [01:01:58] Speaker B: Nice. [01:02:02] Speaker A: It's fun. It's good. [01:02:03] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:02:04] Speaker A: Each show's like a two parter. The fun little adventure. [01:02:07] Speaker B: Nice. [01:02:08] Speaker A: Kind of reminds me like tin tin. [01:02:09] Speaker B: Or like, so. So the ladies, the ladies talking about how, you know, you know, but does the stuff even matter anymore? After all that stuff that happened in Oregon? And Javi's just like, oregon. But he was there. What the fuck does he mean, Oregon? He was there. She's like, I'm sure you saw it on the TV or the Internet. All about them costume fighting, heroes fighting the giant. Look, I'll show you. They're still talking about it. And she turns on the TV and it's the CRN lady. And so they're just watching tv. She's just like going on about heroes and all these people died and what are these heroes thinking? And Javi's just like, maybe, maybe they don't want to have a choice about what happens in their lives. Maybe they, like some of us, they'd rather be someplace else. And she says, why? Where'd you like to be? And Javi's just like, oh, it won't make sense to you. And then we get to the needed us needed. At least a couple more passes on this one, Todd. [01:03:16] Speaker A: Oh, boy. He gets on his white man anti white man monologue. [01:03:20] Speaker B: Oh, boy, oh, boy. Why? Because I'm a female and not smart enough for you? Bad. Look, give me a break. And Javi's just like, pardon? And she goes on. She goes on. And then she apologizes. She says, sorry, you didn't deserve that. I'm grateful for what you did, but I shouldn't yell at you. And Javi's just like, well, I guess. I guess I gotta tell her the truth now. And he transforms himself into his regular gunslinger. Get up. And he's like, lady, I'm as lost as you are. [01:03:59] Speaker A: Lady, I'm hot too. Wants to show her. [01:04:03] Speaker B: Yeah. And he says, but right now. But you're right. Sometimes I have to hide. And she's like, no way. You're like one of them, aren't you? One of the T rows I saw on tv. He says, I need your help. And she's like, me? And he's like, yeah, here's the story. I accidentally kidnapped an old lady, and now she's in trouble. Kidnapped her, then left her. [01:04:28] Speaker A: Yeah. Got her addicted to pills. [01:04:30] Speaker B: Yeah. What? Oh, you got one of them cars. She says, I can get one. So they start driving, and he's back in his old man get up. Lady's like, it's weird you don't own a car. Also, you're a hero. Why do you look like a pudgy old man? Not that there's anything wrong with being pudgy. [01:04:48] Speaker A: He's like, I don't look like that. [01:04:50] Speaker B: You should probably put your seatbelt on. Aren't you supposed to be kind of hot looking? I look like this. And she says, oh, my God, you are hot. Under the cowboy guy again. And then like, I can't believe I'm driving around a superhero who kind of has a hat that's way too tall. [01:05:11] Speaker A: Why is that? They almost answer the question of the hat. [01:05:15] Speaker B: Yeah, they almost do. But then the car crashes, Safety bag deploys, saving the driver. The 1 ton boulder didn't kill her, but Sandra won't be moving without pain for a while. That's he is weird. [01:05:30] Speaker A: Time to introduce her name. [01:05:32] Speaker B: He has. He has described somebody else in gunslinger's path as having this exact same position, like 15 issues ago. Gunslinger isn't as lucky because he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. [01:05:45] Speaker A: Oh, it's a. [01:05:47] Speaker B: It's an after school special, Johnny. It's a PSA. [01:05:50] Speaker A: It's the cat 90s. The cat's PSA. [01:05:52] Speaker B: Yeah. And then added out of the twisted, twisted debris, there's just this weird looking spooky guy. He's got skeleton. [01:06:02] Speaker A: Wow. A new villain. [01:06:04] Speaker B: A new villain. [01:06:04] Speaker A: He's traveling to another location. Gun crashes into a new villain. Never seen this before. I bet next issue is going to be a fight. [01:06:12] Speaker B: Probably. And this, this new villain's just saying, master, why do you want him alive again? [01:06:18] Speaker A: Oh. [01:06:18] Speaker B: Oh. To be continued. Damn, man, his necroplasm meter is low. [01:06:26] Speaker A: It's low. There's some good fan art. [01:06:32] Speaker B: Oh yeah, some good fan art. [01:06:33] Speaker A: Nice custom fig. [01:06:35] Speaker B: Nice custom fig. [01:06:35] Speaker A: We got paint job on that. I like the black coat. [01:06:38] Speaker B: That is a great one. We got. It's. It's real nice. We got Freddy Art there doing a gunslinger. And that's Freddy Williams ii who does a lot of the the Ninja Turtles and Masters of the Universe books with Tim Seeley, so. [01:06:54] Speaker A: Oh, nice. [01:06:55] Speaker B: That's a. He's got. He's got some bona fides. We got another bona fides. [01:07:04] Speaker A: Yeah, you love saying it right. [01:07:06] Speaker B: Yeah, this is some good. Some good. Some good. Good singer art. Some good. Some good tall hat action going on. [01:07:12] Speaker A: Well, gunslinger was a bonafide. [01:07:14] Speaker B: Yeah, he ain't got no time for that French again, Johnny. We need more spawns. Universe always. Well, notice he's ongoing titles. We got the core four there. We got the image classic said. And we got the Call of Duty Spawn ad again. And that, Johnny, is gunslinger number 51. [01:07:37] Speaker A: 51. [01:07:39] Speaker B: And I know you could hear them this entire time. I'm sorry. They're being a little butthole. This one's being a little butthole. Especially pigeon. But I got these puppies, Johnny. And his time to rate them. [01:07:52] Speaker A: It's time to rate the puppies. First up, we have king spawn 53. It was awesome. Those little parables. Little spawn. Like what if spawn real. What things that could happen. Yeah, the Rory McConville does so well. And the sonara arts just compliments it. I mean, I. I don't know. It's like I'm repeating myself cuz. Like this run they've been doing. It's amazing. Yeah, I'm sad I got interrupted by the Todd McFarlane. Like take it over for 50. [01:08:22] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:08:22] Speaker A: Oh, God, don't get me started on the 50. [01:08:25] Speaker B: This is. [01:08:26] Speaker A: I like how all it just like picks up like. Well, I guess that didn't matter. And then they just continued what they're doing before. [01:08:34] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:08:34] Speaker A: It's so weird. [01:08:35] Speaker B: I like how this is sort of a tale of two different. Like, both of these books are very much what has happened previously in both of them. But Kingspawn does the. This is what we've been doing, and we're just gonna do it again the right way. [01:08:50] Speaker A: Well, Roy McConville is very calculated and precise. Tom McFarlane's like, he hadn't, like. And he hadn't watched Sex in the City in a few weeks and just had to, like, Sex in the City all over the place. It was just like, whoa, calm down, dude. It was like him. It was like maximalist Todd McFarlane. [01:09:07] Speaker B: Yeah, but no, yeah, this King Spawn, it's. It's great. It's. [01:09:12] Speaker A: I love David. I'm sorry, but you saying it's offensive to me. Have you been watching those Netflix macho movies? [01:09:22] Speaker B: Binging them, Johnny. [01:09:23] Speaker A: I have. You've been binging those Netflix macho movies. It's like a character from the 1993. Talking about Netflix. [01:09:33] Speaker B: What is this now? What is this? Movies over the Internet, Bright [01:09:42] Speaker A: goblins. Well, there's like, there's a bunch of action. There's that Ben Affleck, Matt Damon one that came out that I don't watch. [01:09:48] Speaker B: I mean, there's. [01:09:51] Speaker A: There's some. The Phantom Gerard Butler ones that Megan likes. [01:09:56] Speaker B: Like, the only. The only Netflix action, like, direct, [01:10:02] Speaker A: depressing documentaries are like, true crime. Okay. I guess that's what I want. [01:10:05] Speaker B: Or Christmas movies. Like, they've got those action Christmas movies. Yeah, I feel like. I feel like. [01:10:13] Speaker A: You ever see that one? I want to see. I kind of want to see Red One because, like, Chris. Chris Ev. [01:10:18] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:10:18] Speaker A: Chris Evans. [01:10:19] Speaker B: Chris Evans. Yeah. [01:10:19] Speaker A: There's a naughty list. It's like he became his character from Scott Pilgrim and is now in a movie. [01:10:26] Speaker B: My. My mom enjoyed Red One. [01:10:28] Speaker A: Oh, I'm sure she did. [01:10:32] Speaker B: It's got buff J. Jonah Jameson in it. That's weird. That's weird. [01:10:36] Speaker A: You mean J.K. simmons? Yeah. [01:10:39] Speaker B: All respect to J.K. simmons, but he [01:10:42] Speaker A: is Joe Jameson forever. [01:10:43] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. That's a late. A late in life buffing up is always. It's always gonna take me aback. It's. It's perfectly legitimate for you to do, but it's. It's always. I'm always gonna be like, What? What? [01:10:58] Speaker A: I'm 53. Like, this is king spawn 53. I'm as buff as J. Joma Jameson is in Red one. This is a buff ass issue. I just love The. The plot. Like, you thought he was doing good. Like, oh, that's kind of cool. Spawn has this underground army because I didn't catch the dialogue thing. Yeah, I honestly didn't. [01:11:13] Speaker B: I was. I was. At first, I was like, come on. Come on. You forgot the bubble. And then I was like, weird, though. [01:11:20] Speaker A: He does a good job because, like, he's just standing there with a gun. I'm like, like, Spawn wouldn't just. He wouldn't have killed a guy with a gun. Yeah, yeah, it's. It's cool. It was. It's really well done. And, like, I love that. Like, you kind of like. Well, that Luigi Mangioni effect of, like, you know, eat the rich. But when you look at the reality of that. Yeah, Well, I mean, if you want to blow up the. If you want to blow up government buildings, go for it. It looks like the Oklahoma city bombing in 911 is terrible. [01:11:45] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:11:45] Speaker A: Kill children. Yeah, like, and that. And that's the thing. It's like, you, like the fight club thing. Like, they never do anything like that in fight Club. But, like, when I was caught up in the issue, I was like, oh, I can kind of see this, like, bringing down the rich cabal or whatever. And then you realize it was just a game. [01:12:01] Speaker B: Yeah, those people always think they're right, Johnny. That's the. That's the thing, right? And I must say, I mean, Spawn would kill a guy with a gun, but he would not kill anybody with a gun that boring. [01:12:14] Speaker A: And just shoot. He was just standing there with a gun like, hey, I shot you. [01:12:18] Speaker B: He would have had, like, the most complicated thing that looked like a early 90s Nerf gun. [01:12:23] Speaker A: Yes. The launched and missile and killed him. But no, it's great. I'm going to give it 4.5. Tactical gear. [01:12:37] Speaker B: Tactical Gears. [01:12:38] Speaker A: I like tactical gear. [01:12:39] Speaker B: Nice. [01:12:40] Speaker A: 4.5 Gears of War. [01:12:42] Speaker B: It's a good one. [01:12:44] Speaker A: Just an Xbox game, and I just bought a PlayStation. [01:12:49] Speaker B: Well, what are you gonna. What are you gonna do about that, [01:12:51] Speaker A: Johnny, and listen to your rating. [01:12:55] Speaker B: Well, I. I agree. This is fucking awesome. It's so good. I'm also gonna give it four and a half. I'm gonna give it four and a half. Ash Ketchums. [01:13:05] Speaker A: He's there. [01:13:06] Speaker B: He's there. [01:13:07] Speaker A: It's canon. [01:13:07] Speaker B: I do like. I do like how each of these issues has been, like, taking, like, a different disenfranchised group and whether they've been disenfranchised for real reasons or, like, sort of imposed disenfranchisement. But also, I mean, Disenfranchised people are the ones who get drawn into the conspiracies. More like, sure, yeah, yeah. So, so fucking good. But not as good as Gunslinger 51. [01:13:36] Speaker A: Yeah, baby. Gunslinger 51 1. Like most 51 year olds, it reads desperate out of date. [01:13:47] Speaker B: The art is good. [01:13:48] Speaker A: Like the art's good. It was, I mean, it's. I was kind of jiving with it for a second. Then we got to the sex worker subplot and I was like, oh, God, don't let Tom McFarland touch this. [01:13:56] Speaker B: And he did. [01:13:57] Speaker A: And it was not gracefully done. [01:14:00] Speaker B: No. And then it got worse. That's weird. [01:14:03] Speaker A: I don't know. Like, if you want to set that kind of tone with like this woman's being like, I mean, sexually assaulted by these men for money, basically, you can have like brightly lit and like just show. I don't know. It was a weird tonal disconnect. [01:14:17] Speaker B: It's, it's not, it's not treated decently. [01:14:19] Speaker A: It's not treated decently. [01:14:21] Speaker B: It's, it's, it's. It's like he wanted to be lurid but not too lurid. [01:14:28] Speaker A: But it's all brightly and it's super. So weird styles wrong for it. God, God bless the artist. It's good art, but like, you gotta like write for your guy, man. [01:14:38] Speaker B: It's. Yeah, it's, it's. [01:14:40] Speaker A: I can see this plot kind of working more with that like 2000s, like 250s, really artsy, abstract spawn artist that no one liked. Like. Yeah, I could see that. [01:14:55] Speaker B: What's not. [01:14:56] Speaker A: I like him. [01:14:57] Speaker B: What's his name? I know. Because it's a. [01:15:00] Speaker A: Is it Killadelphia guy? No. [01:15:03] Speaker B: Oh, because it's the same. It's the name of somebody who played somebody on Seinfeld. [01:15:10] Speaker A: Jason Alexander. [01:15:11] Speaker B: Jason. Yeah, but it's Jason something. Alexander. Jason. [01:15:15] Speaker A: Jason. Sean. [01:15:16] Speaker B: Sean. Jason. Sean Alexander. With that guy. [01:15:18] Speaker A: That, that art would fit. [01:15:20] Speaker B: Yeah, that, that would totally fit anybody other than Todd McFarlane writing. [01:15:24] Speaker A: It doesn't work. It doesn't work. I'm gonna give it one and a half Motor Hotels. [01:15:32] Speaker B: I, I don't, I, I don't think I can in good conscience give that, give it anything as high as that. I'm gonna give it one stack of hundred dollar bills. Johnny. It's kind of unnecessary. [01:15:50] Speaker A: It is what it is, baby. [01:15:52] Speaker B: Yeah. I'll feel bad later for giving it one, but. [01:15:57] Speaker A: And the fact that you don't see what he promises, it just feels very first draft and he's like, oh, fuck, I'm running out of time. Oh, he hits a guy, punches the car. [01:16:05] Speaker B: Yeah, Yeah. [01:16:07] Speaker A: I don't know. 1.5. That's it. [01:16:09] Speaker B: I'm gonna give it one. Yeah, yeah, but Johnny. [01:16:13] Speaker A: Brighten my spirits. [01:16:13] Speaker B: David, you know what is 5? 5 whatever is out of whatever all the time. That's the Spawn munity. [01:16:23] Speaker A: That's great. [01:16:24] Speaker B: It's five munities out of munities, Johnny. And this week we would like to share a shout out from actually the back of Gunslinger 51. [01:16:33] Speaker A: What? Yeah, there's four good things in it. [01:16:38] Speaker B: Yeah, we would like to shout out this week Panjikusumo. And they. They do a lot of custom action figures. And Johnny, the reason why I decided this is the one that needed to be it is currently the. The top. The most recent post they have is a venomized Godzilla. So. Fuck yeah, Godzilla. Gotta get that. Godzilla is awesome. He does awesome stuff. He's got a whole bunch of. He's got some really awesome Spawn custom figures. It's just really good shit. Should give him a follow. Yeah. [01:17:22] Speaker A: Well, David, we gotta speedrun this in because I regret to inform you my Star wars game Zero Company has finished downloading. [01:17:27] Speaker B: Oh, you got a Speed Racer to the end of this, Speed Racer. While you. [01:17:32] Speaker A: While you were Avengers waiting just ahead. Go, Speed Racer. [01:17:37] Speaker B: While you are following Panji Kusumo, you should also look for us regarding Spawnpod on Instagram. And while you're dicking around on the Internet, maybe Google Lonnie Bones music, because he does our music and it fucking rocks. [01:17:52] Speaker A: We love it. [01:18:05] Speaker A: Always. [01:18:06] Speaker B: Always. Absolutely. And Johnny, do you want to ask a question for people to answer that maybe if they answer this question, they'll get a free trade paperback at the 1993 Violator miniseries. [01:18:16] Speaker A: What is your least favorite issue of Spawn? Personally? [01:18:20] Speaker B: Hell yeah. [01:18:21] Speaker A: I don't even want to answer it because I don't want to think about it right now. We'll answer it next week. That's it, Dave. [01:18:26] Speaker B: Okay, we'll answer it next week. Sounds good to me. I like that. I like that. It's a good plan. It's a good plan. Also a good plan. Johnny. Next week we got. We gotta have an episode to answer that question on. So what are we gonna read? Well, you don't know what we're gonna read, Johnny, but you're gonna be really happy that we read it. We're gonna do rat city 23 and salmon switch case files number 23. [01:18:50] Speaker A: Love it. [01:18:51] Speaker B: It's gonna be a good ass episode. [01:18:52] Speaker A: Watch the Jim Carrey movie the number 23. [01:18:54] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, absolutely. 23 times. So yeah, find yourself some copies of SAM and Twitch 23 and Red City 23. Give them a read, come back and listen to us talk about them. And give the answers to our least favorite Spawn issues of all time. You should do it. Absolutely and well, Johnny, since you have to speed Racer out of here. I have nothing, nothing else to say. Except for May the Scorch to be with you. [01:19:23] Speaker A: And also with you, David. Listen to regarding spot. Listen to regarding spot. Listen to regarding spot. Until it stops making sense. And then they'll wake up in the morning and they'll be like, I must listen to recording Spawn. [01:19:50] Speaker A: If you see a guy named Oyster Boy or Oyster Mondo, that's Johnny, you know. Don't tell him to suck your oysters. [01:19:58] Speaker B: Yeah. No, don't fucking. [01:20:00] Speaker A: He's the oyster king of the Midwest, baby. If you've had an oyster west of the Mason Dixon or north of it, [01:20:11] Speaker B: I think west of the Mason Dixon works better because it's nonsense. [01:20:20] Speaker A: What do you mean, [01:20:42] Speaker B: Sam?
