Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: I'm going to drop off my report, then grab some coffee. I'll grab you one.
[00:00:04] Speaker B: Too heavy on the sugar.
[00:00:06] Speaker A: Of course.
[00:00:38] Speaker B: Good evening and welcome to the Malibu. This is regarding Spawn, the world's best swan podcast. I've just dropped my comic book. Jesus Christ.
I am your co host, John Fisher.
[00:00:51] Speaker A: David Williams. And unlike my co host Johnny Fisher, I can. I can hold. I can hold on to my spawn.
[00:00:57] Speaker B: Geez, this boy over here hold on to your spawn.
[00:01:00] Speaker A: He can't hold his spawn.
[00:01:02] Speaker B: Oh yes I can.
[00:01:04] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Lily livered Spawn fan.
[00:01:09] Speaker B: Dude. I carry the Spawn all over today. You don't even know.
[00:01:14] Speaker A: Got it in your bag with you. You always got that shit on you. You got that, that Spawn in your bag. Swag.
[00:01:20] Speaker B: I have a magazine in my bag always.
[00:01:22] Speaker A: I always have some kind of a book with me.
[00:01:24] Speaker B: Reading Empire. The new Empire is like the. The last film magazine that exists is quarterly, I think. I think there's six issues a year. So more than quarterly.
So British. Like, do you remember.
God, what was the American one called?
[00:01:44] Speaker A: I mean, I've heard of. I've heard of Empire, but I don't know what the American equivalent would be because it's. It's more of a. Like a prestige. So it's not like a variety or a.
Right.
[00:01:54] Speaker B: We look up 2000s movie magazines.
Well, there's so many.
[00:02:02] Speaker A: It used to be a. It used to be a rich topic.
[00:02:05] Speaker B: There's Premiere. Premiere was always good.
[00:02:07] Speaker A: I've heard of Premiere. I don't think I've ever actually seen a Premiere, but I've heard it of it.
[00:02:12] Speaker B: Premiere is good now. I review a lot of Premiere they get at the library in my school. Nice DVD review is pretty cool. God, there's more than that. What the fuck?
Total Film. What did I have? It was like an ign. Was it? I know it wasn't ign.
What was it?
[00:02:30] Speaker A: Well, while you're looking it up, Johnny.
[00:02:32] Speaker B: No, fuck. Shut up.
[00:02:33] Speaker A: I. I only ever had three magazine subscriptions in my entire life.
MAD magazine, The Sci Fi.
[00:02:40] Speaker B: You had a Mad Mac? Yeah.
[00:02:41] Speaker A: Oh yeah.
MAD magazine.
[00:02:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:02:44] Speaker A: It used to come with the. The paper covers so it didn't mess up with your Alfred D. Newman face and Modern Drummer.
It's the only three subscriptions.
[00:02:53] Speaker B: What was the second one?
[00:02:56] Speaker A: Sci Fi Magazine.
[00:02:58] Speaker B: Like the channel?
[00:02:59] Speaker A: Yeah, the channel. They put out a magazine every month.
[00:03:02] Speaker B: We subscribed when I was a kid to Disney Adventures, Nintendo Power, which was fucking awesome.
Love Nintendo Power. We subscribed to that. Might have been the only ones.
[00:03:18] Speaker A: Oh, nice.
[00:03:20] Speaker B: I Mean, I subscribe to more throughout my life, currently. Well, I just. I just added Empire because I bought it at Barnes and Noble and I was like, I like this.
I subscribed.
[00:03:30] Speaker A: Very nice.
[00:03:30] Speaker B: I'm gonna first issue soon.
Unfortunately, the newsstands got. I saw it on the newsstands already. I'm like, what the. It is a British magazine, so maybe they have to, like, import it. Hopefully I get it soon.
[00:03:44] Speaker A: Hopefully you don't have to pay.
[00:03:45] Speaker B: Exposure day. Steven Spielberg's on the COVID Oh, nice.
[00:03:49] Speaker A: I'm.
[00:03:49] Speaker B: I'm gonna see it Friday.
[00:03:50] Speaker A: Oh, nice.
[00:03:51] Speaker B: It'll already be out by the time this episode came out. I will have already seen it by the time this episode comes out.
[00:03:55] Speaker A: Are you. Are you excited about it? I'm not sure. I don't know if I'm excited.
[00:03:57] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, absolutely. I guess.
[00:04:00] Speaker A: I also. I haven't really looked much into it. I just know it's.
[00:04:02] Speaker B: What's the bad name? What is the worst Steven Seal movie you've ever seen?
[00:04:06] Speaker A: Worst. One of the worst Steven Spielberg movie I've ever seen is probably Hook is the right answer.
[00:04:13] Speaker B: But everyone loves Hook.
[00:04:14] Speaker A: Oh, I fucking love objectively. Yeah, it is not the greatest movie, but I'm biased. I love it.
[00:04:23] Speaker B: I know you do. I just didn't. I never got into that, like, Goonies. S. Like. Like, I don't know. Hook. Like, I was like, no, I.
[00:04:33] Speaker A: That. More. More Hook for me.
[00:04:35] Speaker B: No, I mean, I'm not saying it's bad, but. But while you're thinking of your worse, I mean, I would say Hook. I would say they're all just actually pretty good when you go back and watch them.
[00:04:49] Speaker A: But the other night, I haven't seen all of them. I'm.
[00:04:52] Speaker B: No, I've seen most of them.
The other night, Megan and I were watching. We were flipping through Pluto TV and we watched the very end Raiders Lost arc and we watched the entirety of Temple of Doom.
[00:05:02] Speaker A: Oh, hell yeah.
[00:05:03] Speaker B: The movie raw rocks, dude. That would be so hard.
But the second one, like, that was my favorite when I was a kid because it's. But it's so up. It's so grim and, like, disgusting and gross and, like.
[00:05:16] Speaker A: It's the nasty one, though.
[00:05:18] Speaker B: Yeah, it's the nasty one. It's a prequel, so. He's like a bat. He's like more of a bastard. He's like, not as.
[00:05:24] Speaker A: Nice try, Lauche.
[00:05:26] Speaker B: Nice try. Loud. You know, Stan Ackroyd is the little guy that leads him to the airplane. Oh, kid, you're playing. That's Dan Aykroyd. Yeah, they don't do a close up. He just did the cameo because he loved the first one. And he like, works with Steven Spielberg on 1941.
[00:05:40] Speaker A: Nice. And then, and then it's like when
[00:05:41] Speaker B: Mike Myers was the British officer in Inglourious Bastards. Like, that guy does a really good British officer.
[00:05:47] Speaker A: So, so is. Does that mean that Dan Aykroyd also provided the crystal skull for Crystals?
[00:05:53] Speaker B: He might have. They drank out of it. But if you go back and watch that movie, it's actually pretty good. I watched it not too long ago.
[00:06:00] Speaker A: Crystal Skull.
[00:06:02] Speaker B: It's not bad.
[00:06:03] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, I, it's definitely. I don't know. I've seen the fifth one.
About the fifth one. It's. It's not a lot. It's not the greatest.
It's not the greatest Indiana Jones movie
[00:06:16] Speaker B: that starts off really strong, I thought. And then when they get to the jungle with the CG monkey, it's all cg. I was like, this is.
[00:06:22] Speaker A: I, I had no problem with the CG monkey. It was very, it was very much. It was very much very George Lucas. It was, was very Jar Jar to me. And I loved Jar Jar. So I still love Jar Jar.
[00:06:33] Speaker B: I don't care if he's a Jar Jar too.
[00:06:36] Speaker A: But I, I.
There was a lot of anticipation for Crystal Skull, and I think that really, really hurt it.
Wanda doesn't like it because.
[00:06:49] Speaker B: Also weird because David Cap had an interview where he mentioned it's like, really beloved by like, a lot of families. Like, it's more of a family movie.
[00:06:58] Speaker A: Is it because of. Is it because of Mutt?
[00:07:01] Speaker B: Well, Mutt, his mom and like all the family stuff. Like, it's very family.
[00:07:04] Speaker A: Oh, I do love. I do love seeing a Marion Ravens. Ravenswood too. Oh, be still my heart. Marion Ravenwood.
[00:07:13] Speaker B: What I love about Temple of Doom is they're like, okay, we're making a sequel. Indiana Jones, it's pulp cereals. Like, we're not going to do Nazis again. Because that'd be the obvious choice. They do like a crazy other pulp sub genre, like cannibalistic cults, the thuggy cults. And they do that.
And I think that's brilliant because the third one originally started developing is it was gonna be him in a haunted house. And they're supposed to be different. But the second one made so much bad money and like, it was such a backlash, so much less money first and such backlash that they were like, let's go. But I think Spielberg was like, can we do the one like, kind of similar to the first one.
[00:07:49] Speaker A: Nazis. I hate those guys.
[00:07:50] Speaker B: Nazis. Yeah. It's like. Well, it's like Last Crusade's like kind of a.
I know. You love it.
[00:07:55] Speaker A: Probably the Last Crusade's my favorite. No, absolutely.
[00:08:00] Speaker B: No.
I'll go. Raiders, Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, Last Crusade.
Crystal Skull and Five are tied. Is that okay?
[00:08:10] Speaker A: That's okay. That's okay. Because, yeah, Crystal Skull and. And Diamond Destiny.
[00:08:17] Speaker B: I have giant, glaring problems with both of them, but they're still enjoyable.
[00:08:20] Speaker A: Yeah, they both have good parts and they both have bad parts and they're like equally good. Bad, bad.
[00:08:25] Speaker B: I mean, my favorite part that was like, this is awesome. Is when Indiana Jones just starts screaming Bach at the cave. He starts singing that song, like the classic. I can't remember what classical song it is, but he's like, ba, ba ba. And it's because he's trying to figure out the mystery of school.
[00:08:39] Speaker A: Yeah, I like that he met Archimedes. Spoilers for dial of this.
[00:08:45] Speaker B: But I liked. I did like the thing, people. Oh, there's just aliens. Like, it's stupid. Like. No, that's the part I liked about that one because it was like him in different pulp genres. Yeah, like he's to the 50s, 60s. So it's gonna be a little more sci fi.
[00:08:58] Speaker A: Yeah, Yeah. I like the. Cate Blanchett was a. Was good as a Soviet.
[00:09:05] Speaker B: A psychic Russian. She was just psychic. That was cool. I thought that was cool.
[00:09:09] Speaker A: That was very cool. I mean, like, it's. That's. That's part of the. The fan. The fantasy ridiculousness. Like, people. Anybody who thought that Crystal Skull wasn't grounded in reality enough obviously hadn't seen the fucking 400 year old knight who had been just chilling in the desert waiting for somebody to come choose the correct car.
[00:09:35] Speaker B: That's Christian David. So it's real.
[00:09:37] Speaker A: Oh. Oh, sorry. My apologies.
[00:09:41] Speaker B: But anyway, long story short, yeah, I am excited about Disclosure Day.
[00:09:44] Speaker A: Oh, nice.
[00:09:45] Speaker B: He, like, came up with the treatment. He, like, had an idea for this movie and, like, he's really excited about it. Seems like he got David Capp on board to write it.
[00:09:54] Speaker A: Nice.
[00:09:55] Speaker B: Writer of Jurassic park, man.
[00:09:56] Speaker A: Jurassic Park.
[00:09:57] Speaker B: I'm excited to see it. I love Emily Blunt. She's one of my canonical milquetoast brunettes.
What?
[00:10:06] Speaker A: Isn't that how we describe them?
That's, That's. That's what we do on this podcast is we are nest. I can't. I can't even. I can't even finish that thought.
[00:10:16] Speaker B: It looks good.
[00:10:18] Speaker A: We talk about Steven Spielberg. And Jaws is still a banger of a movie.
[00:10:22] Speaker B: What's this?
[00:10:22] Speaker A: Worse.
[00:10:23] Speaker B: What one do you like?
[00:10:24] Speaker A: I don't think there's one that I don't like exactly. There's just. There's just ones that I haven't seen.
[00:10:30] Speaker B: The cat. Have you seen Catch Me if you can? That's good.
[00:10:32] Speaker A: Catch me if you can.
Knock, knock.
[00:10:37] Speaker B: You know what? The movie's awesome. The people don't talk about enough.
[00:10:40] Speaker A: What's that?
[00:10:41] Speaker B: Minority Report.
[00:10:42] Speaker A: Minority Report kicks ass. Wait, is that. Is that a Spielberg?
[00:10:46] Speaker B: Hell, yeah, it is.
[00:10:47] Speaker A: Really? Oh, I haven't seen that. That's definitely one of those ones that I watched on some crazy Chinese YouTube dupe my sophomore year of college.
[00:10:58] Speaker B: I saw in theaters three times.
[00:10:59] Speaker A: I think it was 256 is. Actually. I watched it on.
[00:11:03] Speaker B: Oh, my God, you're. I had the video game. There's a shitty video game that beat like 100 completion.
[00:11:10] Speaker A: I should. I should watch it again because that's. That shit's right up my alley. Because it's cyberpunky as hell.
[00:11:14] Speaker B: It's really good. Oh, it's really good.
Speaking of cyberpunk cyberpunks, I feel like we have some cyberpunk in our future.
[00:11:21] Speaker A: I mean, if you notice, you're the. You're the.
[00:11:24] Speaker B: I'm holding up the screen. I'm wearing a Matrix. The Matrix T shirt. The.
[00:11:28] Speaker A: The. The Matrix.
[00:11:29] Speaker B: The original.
It's got Trinity, Morpheus, and Neo walking down the street next to a green. It's a city. It's never named. Kind of like Chicago, these Chicago street names.
Interesting, because in the first scene, the first was, like, Wabash and something.
[00:11:44] Speaker A: Because the Wachowskis grew up around here. Right. Which is why they said a lot.
[00:11:48] Speaker B: Yeah. They grew up in Chicago.
[00:11:49] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. Just like. Just like.
Just like the unnamed city. In short.
[00:11:54] Speaker B: Oh, you haven't seen fucking Jupiter Ascending?
[00:11:57] Speaker A: I haven't yet, no.
[00:11:58] Speaker B: They, like, ice skate in the air around, like, the river and bridge in Chicago.
[00:12:02] Speaker A: Yeah, I know. I've heard that. It is, like, stunning visually. And I've been meaning to watch it.
[00:12:09] Speaker B: You. You would like it.
[00:12:10] Speaker A: I'm sure I would.
[00:12:11] Speaker B: You would like it.
[00:12:12] Speaker A: Do I.
I think I might actually have a copy of it because it might have been one of those movies that my dad bought at the $5 DVD bid at Walmart that he was, like, unable to pass by without rooting through for 20 minutes and buying four DVDs.
[00:12:29] Speaker B: So.
[00:12:30] Speaker A: So when we were cleaning out his stuff, there was just like a whole bunch of unopened DVDs. And my mom was like, what are we going to do with these?
So I think. I think I have a copy of it. I just need to watch it.
[00:12:39] Speaker B: But the Matrix, Cyber. I'm trying to get us on track, David.
[00:12:42] Speaker A: Trying to get us on track. How dare you? How dare you, sir? How dare you, sir. Man.
[00:12:46] Speaker B: Because guess what, David.
[00:12:49] Speaker A: What?
[00:12:49] Speaker B: I know they've been legal for a few months, so it's a late birthday, but Sam, Twitch and the Spawn. The Rat City. Yeah, let me try that again. The Rat City and the. Sam and Twister Recovering today are 21.
[00:13:01] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. So they're able to drink.
[00:13:04] Speaker B: Yeah. So go to your liquor cabinet out there. I know you got a big one.
It's full liquor. You want me to dump it on the issues?
[00:13:12] Speaker A: Glug, glug, glug. Funny, funny story, Johnny. Funny story. Not only are these two issues old enough to drink in months at least. But Sam and Twitch 21 came out on my birthday.
[00:13:27] Speaker B: Are you serious?
[00:13:28] Speaker A: Yes. February 4th.
[00:13:29] Speaker B: Well, howdy doody.
[00:13:31] Speaker A: Happy birthday to me Happy birthday to
[00:13:34] Speaker B: you because that is what we were covering today. Because we are. Which we'll get to.
[00:13:39] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:13:40] Speaker B: But first we are respawn some housekeeping regarding Spawn. Where each week we're bringing two issues to sponsor universe. And our breakdown of the Indiana Jones saga. What do you call it with five movies?
[00:13:54] Speaker A: Quintology.
[00:13:56] Speaker B: Quintology. But then you have all the. Does the young Indiana Jones Chronicles count? Because there's like 40 episodes of that.
[00:14:01] Speaker A: Well, but then that.
[00:14:02] Speaker B: That.
[00:14:02] Speaker A: That could be technically a. Oh, yeah. Okay.
[00:14:05] Speaker B: Did you like that? Because it was very much edutainment.
It was hard to catch. I never. It was on at a weird time that it was never home.
[00:14:12] Speaker A: I remember more the advertisement at the. On the VHS before.
On Last Crusade. Vhs, yes. More than I remember the show. I think my sister and I taped a couple episodes off tv. But I don't know if we rewatched those tapes very much.
[00:14:28] Speaker B: So we got. We watched Indiana Jones because McDonald's would sell. Was selling them for like. It was like a big deal for VHS at the time. Was like $25. But you had to get them at McDonald's. The purchase of like whatever of food.
And we. They like throughout the months. They would sell for three months. They sold Raiders and they sold Temple Doom and they sold Last Crusade.
That's how we got him and watched them.
[00:14:52] Speaker A: That's cool as hell. They need to do that again.
[00:14:55] Speaker B: Bought a McDonald's.
[00:14:56] Speaker A: That's awesome.
[00:14:57] Speaker B: The guy's head explodes in the movie.
And he rips a heart out.
[00:15:02] Speaker A: He rips a heart out.
[00:15:03] Speaker B: What's the grossest thing that happens in the last. See, Last Crusade is a little tamer. It's a little. The.
[00:15:07] Speaker A: The grossest thing that happens in the Last Crusade is that.
That.
That Henry Jones Jr. And senior learned that.
[00:15:15] Speaker B: Sleep with the same woman.
[00:15:17] Speaker A: They slept with the same woman.
They're pen pals. If you catch my drink.
[00:15:26] Speaker B: What do they call it?
[00:15:28] Speaker A: I don't know what they call it.
[00:15:30] Speaker B: Thought it was. I can't even say the word. I don't think. I thought it was called, like, Eskimo Brothers.
[00:15:36] Speaker A: Yeah, that's.
That's.
[00:15:38] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, that's what it's called. I'm not endorsing that phrase.
[00:15:42] Speaker A: Pen pals is funnier to me.
[00:15:46] Speaker B: I'm not worried about getting canceled. I was just using it in context of what I've heard.
[00:15:50] Speaker A: Yeah, no, that's fine.
That makes it. That makes it even grosser to think about, though. So where.
[00:15:56] Speaker B: Each week we bring you two issues to Swans Universe. Except when we don't. This week is no different. We have two issues from Spawn's universe. In fact, it says on both of them a Spawn's Universe title.
[00:16:05] Speaker A: Yes, it says dude. No, one of mine doesn't say it. Only one of mine says it.
[00:16:08] Speaker B: Oh, wow. Mine both say it.
[00:16:10] Speaker A: David, you son of a.
[00:16:13] Speaker B: First up, we have Rat City 21. All the way back from January 2026.
[00:16:18] Speaker A: Yes, indeed. Back when I was still 37.
Am I 30? I'm 38 now. Yes. Oh, goodness.
[00:16:25] Speaker B: And then we have from February 4, 2026, Sam Twitch 21.
[00:16:30] Speaker A: From the very moment I turned 38,
[00:16:33] Speaker B: I was still 39 when this issue came out. Zing.
[00:16:38] Speaker A: Nice. That's okay.
[00:16:40] Speaker B: I try to think what's like a good. Like, Ronnie Dangerfield. Like, he's like, hey, everyone's all mad at the 40 year old virgin. At least he gets some rest.
[00:16:52] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:16:52] Speaker B: Oh.
[00:16:53] Speaker A: We had to try to explain Rodney Dangerfield to somebody at work because they're so young. And it was like, how do you.
How do you explain Rodney Danger?
[00:17:04] Speaker B: That's a good joke. I just made that up.
[00:17:06] Speaker A: That was a good one. That was a good one. My favorite. My favorite Rodney Dangerfield joke is from the Casper.
Is it a Spirited adventure?
[00:17:15] Speaker B: The.
[00:17:15] Speaker A: The direct to video sequel.
[00:17:17] Speaker B: I never wanted to.
[00:17:20] Speaker A: Well, he's. He's.
He says, my wife's so slow, it takes her two hours to watch 60 Minutes.
[00:17:28] Speaker B: That's a good joke
[00:17:31] Speaker A: because I remember being little and being like well, how long does it take to watch 60 Minutes?
And, you know, in. In reality, an episode of 60 Minutes only has, what, like 47 minutes? For the layers, Tony. It's got layers.
[00:17:43] Speaker B: I was a kid. Like, I could have rented that. But I saw. I liked the first cast offer up as a sequel, like, slop. And I was like, I'm not reading that. Yeah, I was getting looked, like.
[00:17:53] Speaker A: I guess I was just young enough. I think, Johnny, that when it comes to matters of taste, I was.
I have been significantly dumber than you for all my life.
[00:18:08] Speaker B: Your parents care. But we had HBO in my house, like, HBO in my basement. My mom never went to. Like, I like. It was. He never censored. And she was like, I gotta kill him. Like, I don't know. I mean, she would censor some stuff, obviously. Like, she didn't want us, like, buying porn, obviously.
But, like, that's what.
[00:18:25] Speaker A: That's what the woods were for.
She just throws a shovel at you. If you want porn, you got to dig for it yourself. Woods are out there, boys.
[00:18:34] Speaker B: The first R movie I saw in the theater was fucking Crimson Tide, which was like, 1993, I swear to God.
[00:18:39] Speaker A: Or for our movie I saw in. The first rated R movie I saw in the theaters was Troy, because I got into it for free because I worked at the movie theater. So they also didn't care that I wasn't seven.
[00:18:49] Speaker B: That movies barely are these days. What's R in that movie? Jesus.
[00:18:52] Speaker A: Some blood?
[00:18:53] Speaker B: Booze.
[00:18:54] Speaker A: I don't even think there's. I don't even think there's boobs in that movie.
[00:18:57] Speaker B: That movie put me to sleep. I hate that movie.
[00:18:59] Speaker A: I. I enjoyed it. I thought it was fine.
[00:19:01] Speaker B: You.
[00:19:02] Speaker A: I know, I know. So many people hate it. I guess I haven't rewatched it since I saw it in the theater, but I enjoyed.
[00:19:07] Speaker B: I think it's boring.
[00:19:08] Speaker A: I enjoyed my time in the theater watching it because I also got my. They let my friends go in for free, too.
[00:19:14] Speaker B: I was also a film snob, David. It wasn't like they came out. It was like 10th or 11th grade. I was being like, yeah, I don't like.
[00:19:21] Speaker A: So what you're saying is the way you feel about movies is how I feel about books. And I just really don't like to talk to people about books because I think they have horrible taste in literature.
[00:19:30] Speaker B: Okay, well,
[00:19:33] Speaker A: I am. For me, I am the classic English major book snob.
[00:19:37] Speaker B: I'm a movie snob. Oh, yeah.
[00:19:38] Speaker A: I haven't even heard of half the books that I try to read.
[00:19:41] Speaker B: But the thing is about a movie, David.
That's what's great about being moviesnob. I will watch any movie. Oh, there's something that's considered a movie. I'll watch it.
[00:19:50] Speaker A: I fucking. I fucking love a movie.
[00:19:51] Speaker B: It's two hours. Who gives a shit?
[00:19:53] Speaker A: It took me a very long time to get here, but much like Marshall McLuhan saying, the medium is the message.
You have to put whatever you're about to enjoy in context. Are we trying to have this be high art? We'll judge it as high art then. Is this just supposed to be something so that way I can get drunk and have an evening where I laugh my ass off on the couch? That's the context we're gonna. We're gonna critique it in. So it's.
[00:20:18] Speaker B: See, I don't like to get drunk during the movie. I like to have one drink during a movie. That's it. I like to get high, but I don't like to get drunk at all.
One drink?
[00:20:26] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, one drink. One drink is. One drink is good. The problem is that I need. I need a sufficient amount of dissuading from pausing the movie and going to do something else.
Which is why I.
It's. It's why I like to go see movies in the theater. Because then it's like, oh, yeah, I am doing a thing. I can't do anything else. But. But here at home, I always. I can't shut off the part of me that's like, if I don't do that now, I'm gonna have to do 14 different things later.
Yeah, I'm working on.
[00:20:59] Speaker B: That's why I loved. I loved you could still go, David, but I think I mentioned on the show before, but I've definitely told you about it, but I used to go to B Fest in Northwestern where it was just in their auditorium and their film department would run a 24 hour B movie festival and start at 6pm Friday and at 6pm Saturday.
[00:21:18] Speaker A: Nice.
[00:21:19] Speaker B: Each ticket got you two seats, which was smart because you could have like your stuff and like a pillow, you know, My Buddy James went five or six years in a row in like 2000. 2020. It's not the 2000s.
From like 2015, 16 to like 2022 or so.
[00:21:36] Speaker A: Oh, nice.
[00:21:38] Speaker B: Covid. We did it for like, okay, we did maybe five. I don't know. But anyway, they lock you in a room. They show 24 hours of movies, like crazy stuff from like every kind of genre. The only thing that's every same. Every Year is they always show Plan 9 at midnight.
And usually you start any time between midnight and one, depending how they get delayed. Yeah, but it was fun and it was the best way to watch a movie because like I would see a bit of every movie. Like some movies like the 4am to like 8am Is like real. Like one year they showed Battlestar Galactica starting at like 3am I was out
[00:22:11] Speaker A: the original Battlestar Galactica.
[00:22:13] Speaker B: No, no. Battlestar Galactic.
No. The God Battlefield Ron Hubbard. Battlefield Earth. Battlefield Earth. You know what I mean?
And I was like, I saw like, I would like wake up and see John Travolta be like, what the hell? Back to sleep.
But one of the. I think that year they showed the Super Mario Brothers movies like the 90s one at like 8am and that got people riled up. It was great.
[00:22:35] Speaker A: Oh, nice. Still haven't seen that.
[00:22:37] Speaker B: But they always end with like a B movie. That's like good because like, and then people on the message boards will get mad. You should show only bad movies. And it's like a B movie can be it. Because it would end with like one year. They ended with they Live one year. They ended with army of Darkness. And those are both b movies. Like 100.
[00:22:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:53] Speaker B: Army Darkness is an A list movie.
[00:22:56] Speaker A: That's true. That's true. A lot of people think the B.
[00:22:58] Speaker B: They would always end with like a good.
No, but it doesn't. It was a B, it would be B. So what it comes from is the B. And the double feature of the Drive In. Yeah, the B movie. Usually the last week's movie.
[00:23:09] Speaker A: Yeah. It doesn't have to be bad a
[00:23:12] Speaker B: lot of times to be a horror movie or like a. Yeah, like an exploitation movie, but like a B movie. A cheap. A cheapie.
[00:23:18] Speaker A: A cheapo. A cheapo cheapo depot made from.
[00:23:22] Speaker B: We love the Leftovers 3.99 comics, which are not leftovers.
They're worth every penny. And this is a double feature we're doing. Like I said.
[00:23:30] Speaker A: Yeah. Two issues.
[00:23:31] Speaker B: I told you. So we got to start with the covers.
[00:23:34] Speaker A: Yeah, we do.
[00:23:34] Speaker B: Rat City 21.
[00:23:36] Speaker A: Yes, indeed.
[00:23:36] Speaker B: To bring it all full circle to Cyberpunk. We're finally back.
[00:23:42] Speaker A: I'm glad we put a pin in it. Yeah.
[00:23:45] Speaker B: Now we have the A cover.
[00:23:46] Speaker A: The A cover. The Marco Falio.
[00:23:48] Speaker B: Marco Falia. It's very.
[00:23:51] Speaker A: It's very eight bit.
[00:23:53] Speaker B: It looks like a Super Nintendo game. It does like, like a step above, like maybe like a PlayStation 1.
[00:23:59] Speaker A: Like in that art style I'm trying to think of.
I'm trying to think of what movie it is that there's like a. A building.
A building him montage. Or kind of like the. The beginning of the Six Million Dollar Man. It kind of looks like they've just finished assembling him and the. The robots are removing the.
[00:24:18] Speaker B: I thought they were, like, fixing him or he was trapped.
[00:24:21] Speaker A: Or was trapped. Yeah. It's very good. It's. It's very. It's a very.
It's a very good cover.
[00:24:28] Speaker B: Yes. It's just the deviant T. Pos Baby tipos. You have to go into a gas station.
[00:24:35] Speaker A: T. Pos Johnny. I don't go into gas stations very frequently.
At all.
[00:24:42] Speaker B: Bodega.
[00:24:46] Speaker A: No, I try to get in and out of those as quickly and as unmemorably as possible.
What? What? What? What? Am I trying to get the person to be mad at me? Make them.
[00:24:57] Speaker B: Do you know what the T pose is, though?
[00:24:59] Speaker A: Is. Is it.
Is it like the crucifixion pose?
[00:25:04] Speaker B: Yeah, it's just you put your arms out like a T, and it's just like the default setting on, like, a video game when it's, like, broken. Like, your character will just be doing that. So if you're just like an npc, you're supposed to T pose or something. So is this. I don't know. I don't understand Gen Z. I'm gonna go see back rooms to try to understand Gen Z a little more.
[00:25:21] Speaker A: That's good.
[00:25:23] Speaker B: It's a Gen Z horror movie.
[00:25:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:25:26] Speaker B: What do you think it's about? Like, kiss, kissing a girl.
Going outside talking to someone.
Not masturbating.
It's about. Honestly, just like, they take away their phones and they're like, no, I have to be.
[00:25:42] Speaker A: I have to be stuck with my own thoughts. Oh, no. Actually, that is actually pretty. Pretty frightening, being stuck with your own thoughts.
[00:25:48] Speaker B: No, it's not.
[00:25:49] Speaker A: Sometimes it is.
[00:25:51] Speaker B: Sometimes it could be.
[00:25:52] Speaker A: Sometimes it is.
[00:25:53] Speaker B: Now we're thinking about Rat City and the beautiful B cover.
[00:25:56] Speaker A: Yeah, the beautiful B cover that I have.
[00:25:57] Speaker B: I have the roll that beautiful B footage. I can't believe I haven't made that joke yet.
[00:26:03] Speaker A: I got the Jonathan Uribe.
Jonathan Uribe.
[00:26:10] Speaker B: Did you hear me, David?
[00:26:11] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:26:11] Speaker B: Roll that beautiful B foot. B footage.
Roll that beautiful bee footage. That's gonna be my new tagline. I'm gonna say, roll that beautiful B cover.
[00:26:20] Speaker A: Roll that beautiful B cover.
I'll have to tell you when I have the B cover.
[00:26:25] Speaker B: No, I'm gonna do it if you don't.
I'm gonna do it every Time.
[00:26:33] Speaker A: You're giving away our secrets. Just like Duke the dog.
[00:26:37] Speaker B: Yeah, I ain't talking.
My friend Adam, my friend who lives in Chicago, who's really. He was, like, into, like, weird. He was, like, kind of famous on weird Twitter. It, like, was funny.
[00:26:51] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, he was.
[00:26:52] Speaker B: Cool goth sweater. On Twitter.
[00:26:54] Speaker A: Cool Garth sweater. Cool goth.
[00:26:56] Speaker B: Cool goth sweater. I don't think it still exists, but, dang, he was awesome. But one of the funniest things he ever tweeted, in my opinion, was when he said, what were we talking about?
[00:27:10] Speaker A: We're talking about beans.
[00:27:11] Speaker B: Oh, he said he tweeted all that. When I forgot what we were talking about.
He said on 9 11, he tweeted, I can't remember which year on 9 11. One of the years he tweeted, let's roll. That beautiful bean footage.
I thought that was really funny.
[00:27:35] Speaker A: I've never forgotten it, Johnny. The bean footage was beautiful bean footage. The bean footage we have.
[00:27:42] Speaker B: I ain't talking.
[00:27:43] Speaker A: I have a. I have a friend who made a bean joke once in our group chat, and now it's. Nick is now the bean guy.
[00:27:52] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[00:27:53] Speaker A: So if anybody gets him for.
For Secret Santa, he's more than likely gonna get something that's branded with bushes. It's funny. It's funny bean jokes.
[00:28:03] Speaker B: Let's roll.
[00:28:04] Speaker A: Beans are delicious. But anyway, this B cover is good. It's just, like, classic, you know, getting ready to fight pose.
[00:28:11] Speaker B: He's like. I'm like a countryside kind of.
[00:28:14] Speaker A: Yeah, it's kind of like. It's. It's like a. It's like a dilapidated city that has been. Nature has reasserted itself. Because that's like.
Like a broken overpass over here and crumbling.
[00:28:26] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:28:27] Speaker A: So it's like the. The foul. The foul. The foulness of man is being covered by the healing.
Healing nature.
[00:28:38] Speaker B: I like it. Let's crack this sucker open.
[00:28:41] Speaker A: I like that.
[00:28:43] Speaker B: And we got the credits. We got script plot by Erica Schultz. Art by Zay Carlos, color by J. David Ramos, lettering by Erica Schultz. We already covered the covers.
[00:28:52] Speaker A: Sure did.
[00:28:53] Speaker B: Crave director is Todd McFarlane. Editor in Chief is Thomas Healy.
[00:28:57] Speaker A: Yes, indeed.
[00:28:57] Speaker B: Previously in Rat City, the deviant has arrived in hell only to discover the true nature of his predicament.
If you remember, it's been a while. I don't feel like it's been a while since we covered Rat City.
[00:29:10] Speaker A: I feel like. I feel like it has been a little bit.
But regalis with the tale of Ret City.
[00:29:16] Speaker B: Pertinent to this, the deviant, AKA Peter Cairn got pulled into Hell by. Or lured into hell by the progeny who are looking for their champion.
And they. We learn a lot about the progeny in this issue.
[00:29:29] Speaker A: Yeah, we sure do.
[00:29:30] Speaker B: It was very interesting. It was cool.
We're gonna talk about it.
[00:29:34] Speaker A: But we learned the origin of the.
[00:29:36] Speaker B: He's been fighting this gladiator death with a bunch of different characters.
And then finally we've arrived and it's him versus Becker, his old German comrade compatriot, his German comrade in his special forces team.
[00:29:55] Speaker A: The who's been working for Hal, the
[00:29:57] Speaker B: sicko guy who's run by the Viscerator is on the throne of Hell.
[00:30:02] Speaker A: Hell. Yeah.
[00:30:04] Speaker B: I think that catches you up. Pretty much.
[00:30:06] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh. Oh. There was.
[00:30:08] Speaker B: Oh. And in New York, a man who lives in an apartment with a young
[00:30:12] Speaker A: girl next to a young girl next
[00:30:14] Speaker B: to a young girl you pick up. You remember this more than I do.
[00:30:18] Speaker A: So it was another. Another veteran who was enrolled in the same program at PTS that Peter and Reece were part of that got infected with the.
The necroplasm power during Spawn's explosion.
He was, you know, trying to get his life together post.
Post service.
He was maybe having a little.
A little fling going on with the lady next door and he took care of her daughter. And then when the explosion happened, she had.
[00:30:52] Speaker B: And she had an awesome. Ready. She had everyday carry.
[00:30:56] Speaker A: Yeah, she. She. She had a sticker bandage for every Boo. Boo.
And when the Spawn explosion went, his implant started freaking out and he turned into like this beast and is now just rampaging through the streets of New York currently after Quinlan and Kizzy, who we haven't seen in a couple issues.
Need some KQ information. I almost said kqed.
[00:31:28] Speaker B: What does that mean?
[00:31:29] Speaker A: Like, KQED is a.
It's either the people. It's either the PBS or the NPR affiliate in San Francisco.
[00:31:40] Speaker B: Okay. I always liked the one in Chicago. The PBS was WTTW to the world.
[00:31:46] Speaker A: Yes, indeed.
[00:31:47] Speaker B: But I do like Oeta.
[00:31:49] Speaker A: Oeta is a good one.
You know what, Johnny?
Public television.
[00:31:54] Speaker B: It's great.
[00:31:55] Speaker A: Two thumbs way up.
[00:31:57] Speaker B: There's one day I was really tired from work and I hadn't had a day off in a while.
I was chilling on the couch and I just napped in and out of like four hours of Ken Burns American Revolution documentary series.
It was great.
[00:32:11] Speaker A: Nice.
[00:32:12] Speaker B: It reminded me there's an epic tale that Tom and maybe just Brandon. I think Tom even moved up to Chicago. It was in my first two or three weeks in Chicago.
It was the first Time, Brian. I got drunk and we met up with some guy we knew from college. We hadn't seen him in forever. And he bought like a 30 pack of ice House.
[00:32:31] Speaker A: Oh, geez.
[00:32:31] Speaker B: And it was the skunkiest and it was the worst hangover ever had in my life.
And I sat on the couch, living room, and it was a marathon on WTTW of Ken Birds baseball. And I watched all 13 innings just hungover on the couch, like, occasionally puking.
[00:32:47] Speaker A: Hilarious.
[00:32:48] Speaker B: It was the worst headache I ever had in my fucking life. Like, worse than, like, drinking, like, a bottle of red wine by yourself. Like, if I have a glass of red wine, I'm gonna.
[00:32:57] Speaker A: I don't.
[00:32:57] Speaker B: Red wine gives me a headache.
[00:32:59] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, it's. It's. It's very. It's very headache.
[00:33:03] Speaker B: But anyway, yeah, so that.
[00:33:06] Speaker A: That catches us up.
[00:33:07] Speaker B: Public television's great.
[00:33:09] Speaker A: Yes, yes, indeed.
It's the winter to the world, Johnny.
[00:33:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:33:14] Speaker A: And here we start on A window
[00:33:16] Speaker B: to hell where we've got this Becker demon.
[00:33:20] Speaker A: Becker demon Becker. And deviant Peter in media fight going to blows.
[00:33:27] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:33:28] Speaker A: Peter says, I thought the in between was bad.
He again refers to the progeny as demon plushies.
[00:33:35] Speaker B: I like that.
[00:33:36] Speaker A: He says, I'm not fighting for them. I'm fighting for my own life. And then Peter starts trying to, you know, to talk to Becker, like, get him to back down a little bit. Be like, hey, Becca, what are you doing, man? This is. This isn't you.
[00:33:47] Speaker B: We were.
[00:33:48] Speaker A: We. We fought together. We. We did bad stuff together because we were told to. And Becker's like, oh, no, I would have done that bad stuff. Anyway, dude, he loves to kill. It is in his nature to kill.
[00:34:00] Speaker B: I love when you see the future soldiers.
[00:34:01] Speaker A: They look like something out of Contra or Starship Troopers.
[00:34:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:34:07] Speaker A: Expect to see some bugs there.
We get a little update that no matter how out of sorts Peter can currently feels, the deviant symbiote still has enough juice to heal itself.
And Becker is somehow able to cut his arm. This armor. So very interesting.
[00:34:30] Speaker B: And it flashes back to them together in their Starship Troopers get up.
[00:34:35] Speaker A: And then them getting an award. Commendations. It looks like they're all getting the same sort of medal.
[00:34:41] Speaker B: Yeah. Except for Chewbacca.
My mom was like, Rise of Skywalker was on before we were recording.
And my mom. I put on the tv. My mom was like, how old is Chewbacca's species?
And I was like, because he's been around a while. This is the sequel.
[00:35:01] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:35:01] Speaker B: I was like, yeah. He's like, they can be like, I think like, I think like 400 or 500 years.
[00:35:06] Speaker A: Yeah, a long time.
[00:35:07] Speaker B: Yeah, because he was like 200 in a new Hope.
[00:35:10] Speaker A: Yeah, I like that wookie, right?
[00:35:13] Speaker B: So I said that to her and she was like, that's crazy. You know that? And I'm like, you buy. I didn't have any money. You're buying Star wars for me. It's not my fucking fault.
[00:35:23] Speaker A: I don't think it's crazy that you know that. I think it is useful because then I don't have to remember if, if I forget a Star wars thing. I could just whip out my phone and text my buddy Johnny and be like, johnny, what is this?
[00:35:34] Speaker B: Ask a question about Star wars just comes to your head and I'll try to answer the best I can.
[00:35:38] Speaker A: Oh. Oh, no. I am unprepared for that.
[00:35:40] Speaker B: Just one, one off the cuff off.
Ask me about a Jabba palace person. You wonder about their background.
[00:35:49] Speaker A: Okay, tell me about, tell me about the, the.
The species that Jabba eats that he pulls out of the little, the little bucket next to his.
[00:36:04] Speaker B: I think they're cheetahs. I think they're now retroactively chubas, which became like a curse word. But it's also the name for like the little frogs that Jar Jar and Sebulba fight over in episode one. I think he's eating little chubas.
Let's look it up.
[00:36:19] Speaker A: Interesting.
[00:36:20] Speaker B: Dude, it's a klatooine paddy frog. It's a klatoon paddy frog.
[00:36:25] Speaker A: Patty frog.
And do they have their own rich lives?
[00:36:32] Speaker B: What?
I don't.
[00:36:34] Speaker A: Do they have their own rich lives and backstories? Yeah.
[00:36:39] Speaker B: So patty frog is a term for a gorg, a small precaution amphibian dated to Tatooine. So Chuba's Huddy's version of a gorg.
[00:36:50] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:36:52] Speaker B: I thought he ate the Chuba.
I'm sorry I gave you false, but I knew a species that was a frog. Like, that's pretty good.
[00:37:00] Speaker A: That's, that's, that's way better than I could have done. I would have, I would have just been like, I don't know, the little, the little.
[00:37:04] Speaker B: This actually one of the guys in the court. Not the frog.
[00:37:07] Speaker A: The guys in the court. What you mean like salacious? Be crumb.
So that's, that's low hanging fruit salacious? Because.
[00:37:13] Speaker B: Yeah, one of the guys in the background, like, like the spider guy. Like we have fortuna or like the three eyed guy.
The goat guy.
[00:37:21] Speaker A: The goat guy.
All. Literally all I can see in My brain right now is the little bat guy asking for a drink in A New Hope.
[00:37:34] Speaker B: He's a chart of. Fan chart. A fan.
[00:37:40] Speaker A: What about the. What about.
Can't ask about the rancor because that's also laying fruit.
And the. The dude who. It always. It always killed me when the.
[00:37:51] Speaker B: When he cries over the ranker.
[00:37:52] Speaker A: When he cries over. Oh, man.
[00:37:54] Speaker B: Malikiki or something. I can't remember his name. The rancor keeper.
[00:37:58] Speaker A: Yeah. But anyway, he cried.
[00:38:00] Speaker B: It's sad.
[00:38:01] Speaker A: Yeah, it is sad. It is. That was. That was his little pet. That was his little dude.
[00:38:06] Speaker B: It was just touches like that that are like.
That's the genius. Yeah.
[00:38:10] Speaker A: The Star wars universe is so lived in. It's. It's great.
It's great. Nothing is new. Nothing is shiny. It's all hand me downs and every hole has a story. It's great.
[00:38:22] Speaker B: He's a rancor down there.
[00:38:24] Speaker A: Yeah. It's awesome.
[00:38:27] Speaker B: That is cool. That's the Cool. That was always my favorite part of Return of the Jedi. Probably is the Jabba's battle stuff.
[00:38:32] Speaker A: Java's battle stuff is really cool. I like the. I do like scary. I do like. I do like bar cart. R2D2 out on the.
On. On Java's little.
[00:38:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:42] Speaker A: It's pleasure. Yeah.
[00:38:43] Speaker B: Sail.
[00:38:46] Speaker A: And then R2D2 just like pushing C3PO off.
Like, we gotta go, dude.
[00:38:53] Speaker B: I just remember when I was a kid when I saw that movie, it freaked me the fuck out.
Like, all those, like, dirty, like, aliens or like gangsters, they all stayed there and slept there and, like, partied all night because they were hiding when Princess Leia came in. They're all just there. Freaked me the fuck out.
[00:39:07] Speaker A: Yeah. Like, all the, like all the. All the friends that Sarah meets in the labyrinth at the end of Labyrinth.
And they're like, should you need us?
And she's like, but I need all of you. And then they just like, okay.
[00:39:23] Speaker B: It's a very Jim Pop out of a room.
[00:39:24] Speaker A: Yeah. It's a. It's a very Jim Henson thing to just have a room of nothing and then suddenly. Bah.
[00:39:31] Speaker B: Well, Return of the Jedi has more in common with those, like, 80s fantasy movies.
[00:39:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:39:37] Speaker B: Than other Star Wars.
[00:39:38] Speaker A: You know, I bet the Ewoks would totally chill you down with the Fire Gang.
[00:39:44] Speaker B: I don't know what the Fire Gang is.
[00:39:46] Speaker A: They're the.
The guys from Labyrinth that, like, take off their head and.
[00:39:51] Speaker B: Okay. I didn't know they're called the fire. I know you're talking about. That's a good song too.
[00:39:55] Speaker A: It's It's a great song, but. And Peter and Becker are just fighting. They're fighting. They're fighting. Peter's like, what are you doing? And Becker's like, I'm doing what I want to do. And I've. I've wanted to hurt you since the day we met. And you're blessed. Reese is not here to protect you.
[00:40:13] Speaker B: Peter's like, shut the up.
[00:40:15] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:40:16] Speaker B: And, oh, this is your rage you've kept suppressed because you fear the wrath of your God.
And he's like, let the beast out.
[00:40:26] Speaker A: Peter says, careful what you wish for, Becker.
[00:40:29] Speaker B: And then we zoom out to, like, a ledge. And the prodigy. Our little critters are a little satanic plushies. What does he call them?
[00:40:37] Speaker A: Demonic plushies.
[00:40:39] Speaker B: Demonic plushies.
[00:40:41] Speaker A: They're watching the battle. Yeah. And they're like, we. We're exposed. We're gonna be found out.
We're vulnerable.
And they're like, I actually. Actually know. It's like nobody's noticed we're here. Were we too scared to come back for no reason at all?
And then as soon as they say that eviscerator is just like, hello, Hello. I like how she's standing on, like, a fucking magma lava waterfall and just, like, jumps from it down to the ledge where the progeny are.
[00:41:14] Speaker B: Oh, nice. Welcome home, motherfuckers.
[00:41:17] Speaker A: Yeah. And she's. She's like, I see you are all. You are all too scared to take your true form.
And they're just like, ah, we exist how we want to.
They say, we have come for what is ours.
[00:41:34] Speaker B: And she said, that is why you brought your bastard spawn to my realm. Which is interesting, touch, because he wasn't created by Hell. He is kind of like a bastard spawn.
[00:41:42] Speaker A: He is. Yeah. Because he was created by Al Simmons.
[00:41:45] Speaker B: Technically.
[00:41:46] Speaker A: Technically.
And then, you know, we got each of the progeny being like, you're not a real queen. You shouldn't be sitting on the throne of Hell. Or what? Nobody should be paying attention to you. And she says that they are. Delulu. You speak of Malebolgia as if he loved you. He was ruler of Hell. He loved no one but himself. The progeny all attack viscerator. And she says, ah, you pathetic children. Hell is mine.
[00:42:12] Speaker B: And she sonic booms them all out of there. And the most awesome thing I've seen, the bird catches the cat.
[00:42:20] Speaker A: So the cat and the rat fall off the ledge.
[00:42:23] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:42:24] Speaker A: And the. The crow version does catch the cat. Yes. And the little rats just there, like.
[00:42:30] Speaker B: And then it falls in the cat's mouth.
That was awesome.
[00:42:35] Speaker A: And then. And then the bird brings both the cat and the rat back to the ledge.
[00:42:39] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:42:40] Speaker A: That was amazing.
[00:42:40] Speaker B: I thought that was so cool.
[00:42:42] Speaker A: That's so much fun.
And the progeny are like, you wish to see our true form Eviscerator? Let us show. Show you.
And they say, we are many, yet we are one. And then we get Alice Cooper here, Johnny. They turn into Alice.
[00:42:59] Speaker B: It's awesome. Like, it's like. No, it's like. It's also like Marilyn Manson, like, kind of asexual being. Like, it's cool.
[00:43:06] Speaker A: Yeah, it's very. It's very.
It's like the.
It's exactly what I would imagine Malbolge's moody child would look like.
[00:43:16] Speaker B: Yes, Very much the Kylo Ren energy. Yeah.
[00:43:19] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm pretty sure Kylo Ren has that same sort of corset belt.
[00:43:23] Speaker B: Oh, he does. Yeah, he does. Of course.
David, when I was. When I got that, I sent you that message. I got all those cool Star logs, Advantage stock, the old magazine. I also got a Kylo ren keychain for $2.
[00:43:39] Speaker A: $2?
Hell, yeah.
[00:43:42] Speaker B: On clearance from 10.
That's a good time to go to clearance stores if you're a Star wars fan.
[00:43:49] Speaker A: The pro tip from Johnny.
Yeah, hit it up. Hit it up. Yeah, it's real cool. And then. And then he's just like, this realm is ours. And lunges for Eviscerator. And then we cut back to Becker and Peter.
[00:44:05] Speaker B: I think it's a good design, but at first, just out of the corner of your eye and you're, like, reading it.
On their reveal of the reveal of the progeny, all you see is, like a colander, like a pasta thing on top of their head.
[00:44:18] Speaker A: Yeah, I was gonna say that. Like, when you start reading this just out of the corner of your eye, all you see is fucking bread basket with torn leggings.
It's like, what?
Definitely a focal point of the.
Of the character, I feel maybe intentionally.
[00:44:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
Looks like Cherith the goblin.
[00:44:39] Speaker A: Yeah, I bet it is filled. Do you have. I shared with you the story about why it's so prominent?
[00:44:46] Speaker B: Sure.
[00:44:47] Speaker A: Okay, so. So during the. The contact juggling scene. That's not David Bowie contact juggling. It's an actual contact juggler.
And the. The juggler who did it had to, like, hide down by David Bro. His crotch to do it. So that way they weren't in scene, but their hands were in the right spot.
And at one point they were like, it's a little musty down there. And so they're like, let's put some potpourri in there. So they gave him a codpiece filled with potpourri so that way the context would be comfortable.
And then afterwards everybody was like, you know, actually, let's. Let's just keep that for the rest of the movie.
Man, working in the movies has got to be just so much fun sometimes.
[00:45:36] Speaker B: Oh, I bet it was funny, if I can tell. My. I'm talking about all this. I'm talking about 90s, 2000s film magazines. I'm talking about nostalgia.
What have I become? But this story of Labyrinth reminds me of how I first saw that movie. So my grandma's house, like after dinner, like, we went to dinner, like a Saturday night.
And she was watching a movie on Encore, which is like the Cheat. It was like the seven 60s, 70s. They barely had some 80s movies.
But it was like kind of the cheapo movie channel was like 60s and 70s movies mainly.
But they had.
[00:46:13] Speaker A: Because it wasn't. It was. It was the not pay per view one. Right?
[00:46:17] Speaker B: It was just a movie channel. Encore.
It's where I first saw many formative movies, actually, which I can.
But anyway, so we saw a Labyrinth on there because my grandma was watching some old fuddy duddy movie at like, you know, 8:30 on a Saturday night. And like, it ended and they're like, in 15 minutes starts labyrinth. And my brother and I had like, kind of heard of it, but we saw like, they show like clips. We're like, we gotta see that. We gotta get. Because we had it at home. We gotta get home. 15 minutes, let's go, let's go. And we went and watched it.
[00:46:47] Speaker A: Nice.
[00:46:48] Speaker B: On a. On a Saturday night on Encore tv.
[00:46:51] Speaker A: Nice.
[00:46:51] Speaker B: Also, I first saw Tommy.
[00:46:53] Speaker A: Oh, nice.
[00:46:55] Speaker B: It's probably Encore's biggest contribution to my life is that I saw Tommy on Encore.
[00:47:00] Speaker A: I still haven't seen Tommy.
[00:47:04] Speaker B: I mean, it's a wild movie.
[00:47:05] Speaker A: I've listened. I've listened to the album several times.
[00:47:09] Speaker B: I showed the movie to Megan and it did not go well.
[00:47:14] Speaker A: Those, those seventies rock opera films really are kind of a hard sell unless you are fully invested from the outset.
[00:47:25] Speaker B: This has a lot of sexual abuse in it.
[00:47:30] Speaker A: That was part of the times it
[00:47:32] Speaker B: was autobiographical because that happened to Pete Townsend. But let's not get into all that.
[00:47:40] Speaker A: So, yeah, yeah, Peter and Becker are still fighting.
And then in the background, the progeny just like pins viscerator against the wall. And Becker's like McQueen and jumps away to try to help help her. And Peter's just like, what the hell Are you doing, Becker?
[00:47:57] Speaker B: Kill me.
[00:47:58] Speaker A: Get your.
[00:47:59] Speaker B: Get your ass back anywhere.
[00:48:01] Speaker A: Yeah, I. I do. I do. I do appreciate Erica Schultz's restraint and not. And not just having him say, get over here.
Because I would been. I would have been unable to not have that be what he said, and then would have gotten trouble from Midway. Who owns Midway now?
[00:48:23] Speaker B: Acclaim. Acclaim, which I think is owned by Xbox. I don't remember.
[00:48:30] Speaker A: Well, if it was a box, what is it now?
[00:48:33] Speaker B: What?
[00:48:34] Speaker A: You said Xbox. And I said, well, if it was a box, what is it now?
[00:48:38] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
I think it was.
Wasn't an Xbox.
I don't remember.
[00:48:48] Speaker A: You would know better than me.
You would know better than me.
[00:48:52] Speaker B: I think Acclaim owns Midway.
[00:48:54] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:48:55] Speaker B: And someone was. Blizzard. I don't know. Warner, bro. No, it's Warner Brothers. They did all the.
They definitely own it.
[00:49:01] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:49:01] Speaker B: I think Warner Brothers Interactive or something. Warner Brothers owns Mortal Kombat for sure.
[00:49:08] Speaker A: Well, so, yeah, Peter's.
Peter's pulled Becker back and Becker says, you will regret this. And then we cut from there to the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Oh, no. The wreck at the George Washington Bridge.
I'm not interested anymore.
[00:49:26] Speaker B: What?
[00:49:27] Speaker A: Because it's not the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
[00:49:30] Speaker B: Where's the Edmund Fitzgerald?
[00:49:31] Speaker A: You don't know about the Edmund Fitzgerald?
[00:49:33] Speaker B: The Edmund Fitzgerald where they did the psychic, the Philadelphia Experiment or whatever?
[00:49:38] Speaker A: No, no, it was. It was a steel freighter on Lake Superior, and in the 70s, it wrecked on a. During a freak. A freak storm in November.
[00:49:53] Speaker B: They just left it as, like a tourist attraction?
[00:49:56] Speaker A: No, no, it just. I mean, it's in the middle of fucking Lake Superior. It's not really a tourist attraction, but it sank and the whole crew went down.
[00:50:05] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[00:50:06] Speaker A: And then. And then they.
[00:50:08] Speaker B: No survivors.
[00:50:09] Speaker A: No survivors. None.
[00:50:11] Speaker B: How many crewmen? How many semen, noble seamen were lost.
[00:50:14] Speaker A: Boy, I've forgotten. Oh, 29. 29.
[00:50:19] Speaker B: Because I've forgotten. Oh, here's the very.
[00:50:23] Speaker A: There's a Gordon Lightfoot song about it called the Wreck of the.
[00:50:25] Speaker B: I figured there was a fucking song about it. Yes.
[00:50:28] Speaker A: And so the fun story about that is. So the church in Detroit that rang out the bells for the seamen when they. When they died.
It was a church that was very important to the sailors on Lake Superior.
[00:50:42] Speaker B: They should have gotten this. If they were doing it while they died. They should have gotten those guys that. Ringing the bells onto a rescue boat.
But anyway, hey, stop ringing the bell. Go out there.
[00:50:53] Speaker A: So during. During the memorial service, they did the 29 bells for each of the crew. Crew members of The Edmund Fitzgerald. And then when Gordon Lightfoot died, that exact same church rang the bell 30 times.
[00:51:07] Speaker B: Who's Gordon Light?
[00:51:09] Speaker A: Gordon, he was. He was a folk singer guy in the 70s singing that song you sang.
[00:51:14] Speaker B: You remember, the Green Beret song. You know that like, kind of folky song.
There's one about. It was like. It's the Ballad of the Green Beret. It was like one of those, like, 60s songs.
[00:51:25] Speaker A: Oh, I know. I don't know that one, but. No, the Edinfitch. You should. It's a story.
[00:51:31] Speaker B: That sounds familiar. That sounds familiar.
That song.
[00:51:36] Speaker A: Yeah. Of the big lake they call Gitchigumi. Come on.
[00:51:41] Speaker B: I'll. I'll put in the queue.
[00:51:43] Speaker A: It's a good one. It's a good one. It. It will. It will bring a tear to your eye. It absolutely does.
[00:51:49] Speaker B: I don't need that music Makes you cry all the time.
[00:51:51] Speaker A: That's good. That means. That means you were in touch with your emotions, Johnny.
[00:51:55] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't care about crying.
[00:51:57] Speaker A: Crying is good, but. Yeah. So we're back at the wreck of the George Washington Bridge.
Welcome to Earth.
[00:52:05] Speaker B: And he doesn't say Earth, he says Earth. It's like he enunciates it.
[00:52:12] Speaker A: I know. It's just more fun to say Earth.
[00:52:15] Speaker B: I don't know, it's a meme.
[00:52:19] Speaker A: And so the.
The guy that's Kingman. Kingman's just hanging there after.
After his rampage.
And the police are all like, surrender and prepare to be taken into custody.
And Kingman's just like, no angels. They're all gone. And he starts spooling up his. His necroplasmic cannon.
And then he gets a.
A voice in his head that says, I haven't got anywhere, Mr. Kingman.
I'm right here. And we see it's angel, the little girl who he used to live next,
[00:52:51] Speaker B: to which Johnny Everyday carry.
[00:52:54] Speaker A: Yeah, Johnny.
I know we cut very quickly from that particular scene because angel and her mom ran away. I'm really hoping this doesn't imply that Kingman has killed this little girl.
That would be devastating.
That would be very devastating because how else would she be in his brain like this? She's just.
[00:53:19] Speaker B: It's a vision.
[00:53:21] Speaker A: I hope it's just a vision and not like a soul.
A soul remnant from somebody who's. I'm prepared to be very sad. If Jessica. If Erica Schultz. Why do I keep calling her Jessica?
[00:53:35] Speaker B: If Erica Schultz.
[00:53:36] Speaker A: If Erica Schulz reveals that Kingman has killed this little girl and it is part of why he is so crazy. I Am prepared to cry a lot.
Erica Schultz, do your worst.
I feel like she can probably do some. Some damage. She seems like the person.
A person capable of doing some damage.
[00:53:57] Speaker B: Speaking of doing damage, this helicopter is surveying.
[00:54:00] Speaker A: Yeah, he.
[00:54:01] Speaker B: Our friend.
[00:54:02] Speaker A: Yeah. So Kingman starts powering down from. From the comfort he has of this vision of angel. And they're like, he's. He's shutting down. He's shutting down. Oh, he moved.
They just rat a tattoo. Tattoo Tatta tat. Attack him.
[00:54:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:54:17] Speaker A: And like, you know, those people that
[00:54:20] Speaker B: Quinlan are like, people, the survivors who are like, off the bridge on the shore, they're like, oh, my God.
[00:54:25] Speaker A: God. And then we see him just like. He basically looks like overtkill at the end of every story that has overkill.
[00:54:35] Speaker B: But he's a. He's. I'm gonna say it. He's a better character than Over.
[00:54:39] Speaker A: Oh, oh, no, no question, no doubt, no question. This man hasn't said anything about the color of poop yet. So.
[00:54:52] Speaker B: Spawn number seven.
[00:54:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
What a wild issue.
It was definitely written for a five year old's child that I would have been at the time that that came out.
[00:55:08] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, of course.
[00:55:10] Speaker A: Absolutely.
And then the issue ends with angel speaking in Mr. Kingman's head again, saying, it's okay, Mr. Kingman. I have all the band AIDS you need.
Fucking devastating, Johnny.
[00:55:26] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[00:55:27] Speaker A: I feel. I'm feeling bad for this, for this.
This man hung up like a slab of beef.
A slab of cybernetic beef.
What's that, Johnny?
[00:55:42] Speaker B: Do you have some cybernetic beef?
[00:55:47] Speaker A: I can neither confirm nor deny.
[00:55:51] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
We get the Spawn skull to end the issue.
[00:55:55] Speaker A: Yes, we sure do.
Then we get the new generation, new stories, new UAD that has Rat City, Deadly Tales of the Gunslinger, I Saw Santa. And Spawn. The Dark Ages.
Some of those we need to get to cover.
[00:56:09] Speaker B: So much stuff we have to cover.
I Saw Santa. We're gonna do this December, though.
[00:56:15] Speaker A: Yeah, that's. It's gonna fill up the month. We're gonna have four weeks.
There's three of those issues and the. The class. Yeah, it'll work.
[00:56:24] Speaker B: Perfect.
[00:56:27] Speaker A: At least we're not covering everything on this Image Classics page, though, Johnny. Oh, boy, that would take.
Oh, that would take so much time.
So much time. Then we get the Avatar Fire and Ash action figures and the McCarlands. McCarland's McFarlane sports.
That's. That's a. That's. Todd's gonna retire and just open a used car lot and it's gonna be McFarlane's McCarland's.
[00:56:57] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
And it's a bunch of football players.
[00:57:01] Speaker A: Football players. I don't know a single one of them.
My, my, my. My knowledge basically begins and ends with Troy Aikman, because at the time that I learned of what football was, he was literally a God to people from Oklahoma and Texas.
[00:57:23] Speaker B: I know some football players, but I don't know any of these guys.
It's like, it's a toy ad. You can't even see their numbers. Half of them.
[00:57:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
Definitely not their faces.
And that's rat City Number 21, Johnny.
[00:57:38] Speaker B: Happy birthday.
[00:57:41] Speaker A: Yes, indeed.
[00:58:01] Speaker B: So next up, we have salmon Twitch.
Blackjack, baby. 21.
That's the only time I ever won Money Casino.
I played blackjack and I won 165 or something like that. And I like, stop playing.
[00:58:17] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what, that's what I would do if I ever gambled and won anything. Like, if it's four over 100 bucks,
[00:58:22] Speaker B: it's like, I'm out. I'm out.
[00:58:24] Speaker A: I'm done, I'm done.
Hell, I love. I love the feeling of winning a.
A dollar on a dollar scratcher. I'm even. Hell, yeah.
[00:58:35] Speaker B: So one time on a five dollar scratcher, because there were scratchers at the. There's a liquor store across my old apartment in Chicago.
They had like, snacks. So, you know, soda get, like, you know, just the liquor store, but you get other stuff there too. You go there pretty often. It's literally a four minute walk from my front door.
[00:58:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:58:52] Speaker B: So it's like, oh, I need sparkling water. I need some chips or whatever.
Salsa. And they had a scratcher machine.
And like during the pandemic. It was definitely during the pandemic, I was bored.
And they had crazy deals on Coors Light, which was insane because they were like buying from stadiums or having events canceled. So they're like vendor box. They're like brown boxes of Coors light. Oh, like 30 for like 13. Oh, because they bought them from, like, concerts that were canceled.
[00:59:27] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:59:27] Speaker B: All the screwers light on hand, and they're just like vendor boxes. It was this crazy deal and they had. They're like the only place open, but like, you go get stuff there and they.
The thing I'll always remember about the scratcher machine is one time I put in five bucks and I want 150.
[00:59:45] Speaker A: Hell yeah.
[00:59:46] Speaker B: But it was bad because then every time I had cash, I'd like, put more in. I never want anything again.
So I stopped doing it. Like, it literally it would last it like Three months where I was like, okay, you can win money on scratchers. I'm gonna do it. And after three months of, like, I've definitely spent over 150 bucks on this, I never did it again.
[01:00:03] Speaker A: I. I like to buy.
I usually don't ever have cash. So that's the main loose dollar.
[01:00:09] Speaker B: I'll buy a dollar.
[01:00:10] Speaker A: It's. It's. I have to have. I have to have $2 because I buy one for me and one for Wanda. And then.
[01:00:16] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:00:16] Speaker A: And with this, usually she wins and I don't.
[01:00:21] Speaker B: Sometimes you win $2.
[01:00:23] Speaker A: Sometimes.
I think the most effective sort of advertisement for not gambling is going to a place that sells scratchers or pick sixes or powerballs and just seeing the piles of fucking wastage tickets on the ground outside. And it's like, oh, nobody fucking wins anything. Because that's what the lottery.
[01:00:48] Speaker B: Aaron worked at a gas station.
He'd tell me about dudes who come in and buy packs of scratchers. They buy them by packs.
[01:00:54] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:00:55] Speaker B: They sit there and scan and scratch the barcodes and scan if they wouldn't play the game.
But they would, like, win money.
If they want money, they would, like, tip him, like, give him, like, 40 bucks cash.
[01:01:04] Speaker A: Whoa.
[01:01:06] Speaker B: Because he was, like, good at, like, processing it fast.
[01:01:08] Speaker A: Wild.
[01:01:09] Speaker B: But there were people daily. Like, he had guys that would, like, come in and buy. They would buy, like, sealed packets of.
It would be like 300 bucks.
[01:01:17] Speaker A: Dang. They. They'd win 300 bucks or would cost 300 bucks.
[01:01:21] Speaker B: That's how much they would sell a packet of scratchers for. It's like. It was like, literally a plastic shrink wrap. Like, whatever. They come in, like, kind of like, you know, stacks up. So they come stacks, like 30 to 60 or something.
[01:01:32] Speaker A: Something dang wild.
[01:01:37] Speaker B: Well, one thing you don't have to gamble on is sandwich, because they're always reliable.
[01:01:43] Speaker A: They are. They are the most reliable.
Good covers. Yeah. Look at that.
[01:01:50] Speaker B: They reliably have good covers. I got the Von Randall cover, which is that kind of a little more outlandish version of the kind of killer zodiac guy.
[01:02:00] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:02:00] Speaker B: That's been stalking our heroes. This issue.
[01:02:02] Speaker A: It's like. It's like we've just been sprayed with the Scarecrow's fear serum and are being made to look at the villain man. Villain man.
[01:02:14] Speaker B: And it's got sandwich, which is skulls, which is pretty cool.
That'd be good tattoo.
[01:02:19] Speaker A: Yeah, it's got that cool seven pointed star on his chest.
Little occult symbol. Have you ever tried to draw a seven pointed star, Johnny?
No, it's hard as hell.
It's so hard.
[01:02:32] Speaker B: I can do the six point easy.
[01:02:34] Speaker A: Yeah, of course you can do this. Try to add a seventh to it.
[01:02:38] Speaker B: That's fucked up.
[01:02:39] Speaker A: Yeah, I actually have. I actually have a ring somewhere with a seven pointed star on it.
[01:02:43] Speaker B: What does it mean?
[01:02:45] Speaker A: It's an occult symbol and I don't exactly know what it means, so I probably shouldn't have worn it, but.
[01:02:50] Speaker B: Shouldn't mess with it, David.
[01:02:52] Speaker A: But I was a spooky kid. It was my. It was my.
Instead of getting a class ring, that's what I got was a.
I was a spooky little goth kid. Johnny.
[01:03:05] Speaker B: I didn't get a class ring. I didn't get an alternative either.
[01:03:09] Speaker A: Well, Johnny, I do believe you have a catchphrase you need to say.
[01:03:13] Speaker B: Yeah, let's roll that beautiful B cover.
[01:03:16] Speaker A: Hell yeah. Well, it is. It is like the classiest motherfucking noir poster ever for Sam and Twitch. It's.
[01:03:25] Speaker B: It's cool.
[01:03:25] Speaker A: It's white and black. It's just in black and white and it's like so cool.
It's very like the Godfather aesthetic. And it's the Marco Falia cover.
Yeah, it's excellent. It's very good.
And if we open.
Pop this. This sucker open, we can see. What else is excellent is these credits that we got to give.
[01:03:52] Speaker B: Oh, excellent credits, you say?
[01:03:54] Speaker A: Yes, indeed. We got the plot. Script by Thomas Healy with additional script by Todd McFarlane.
Art is done by.
[01:04:00] Speaker B: Couldn't pinpoint it.
[01:04:02] Speaker A: Me either. I really couldn't.
[01:04:04] Speaker B: And then nothing stuck out to me.
[01:04:05] Speaker A: Yeah.
Color by FCO Placencia with Sheila. Sheila Saldana doing the color flats.
We got lettering by Tom Orzikowski.
We got the covers that we already covered.
The creative director is Todd McFarlane and the editor in chief is Thomas Healy.
Previously in Sam and Twitch.
Following a hunch, Sam ends up at an old crime scene. But is he alone?
I don't know. Is he?
But yeah. So to this point, we have.
Sam and Twitch have inherited some open cases from a detective o' Shea who recently retired.
[01:04:50] Speaker B: Correct.
[01:04:50] Speaker A: And in going through some of these open cases, Sam was like, hey, this looks an awful lot like a case that we kind of maybe half closed like seven or eight years ago. And Twitch is like, yeah, it really is. And so they've been trying to run it down and it's. It's the case that got away from them. And it.
[01:05:12] Speaker B: It's like the Zodiac kind of guy.
[01:05:14] Speaker A: Yeah, it's like not Zodiac and mythology.
[01:05:16] Speaker B: Zodiac in appearance. Yeah, he kind of looks like the. The lake zodiac where he shows up in the.
[01:05:22] Speaker A: Yeah. In the. The suit.
[01:05:24] Speaker B: Like kind of KKK esque.
[01:05:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:05:26] Speaker B: Mass. But it's not.
[01:05:27] Speaker A: Yeah.
And it's. It's driving. It's driving Sam, quote, crazy.
[01:05:34] Speaker B: So his eyes are bugging out.
[01:05:36] Speaker A: Yeah. So crazy, in fact, that at the end of the last issue he was at the old crime scene and he thought he saw the killer again. And he ended up unloading his service weapon into a wall.
Weren't nobody there, Johnny.
[01:05:51] Speaker B: So we start it's like on a Pulp Fiction where they shoot. Shoot at them and.
You ever seen Pulp Fiction of it? You haven't?
[01:06:01] Speaker A: I have seen Pulp Fiction.
[01:06:04] Speaker B: Didn't like it.
[01:06:04] Speaker A: Not in a very long time.
Well, I just haven't rewatched it.
[01:06:08] Speaker B: It's on Pluto TV a lot.
[01:06:09] Speaker A: I remember. I remember liking it, but it's also like it's over two hours, so that's. That's a commitment.
[01:06:15] Speaker B: Oh my God. Jesus Christ. Pluto tv. It's four hours.
So it actually started the second time I had Covid ever.
I just was watching Pluto TV and I started watching Pulp Fiction and it got this one part and it glitched and it kept showing the same two minutes over and over again.
And I was like, wait, I own this on Blu Ray. And I was like, wait, I own every Quentin Tarantino movie.
So I watched them all in order.
[01:06:42] Speaker A: Nice. Very nice.
[01:06:44] Speaker B: Somewhere on DVD I don't own.
So I got Reservoir Dogs on Blu Ray, got Pulp Fiction on Blu Ray, got Jackie Brown on DVD. But it's really nice DVD.
[01:06:57] Speaker A: Nice.
[01:06:58] Speaker B: I've got Kill Bill 1 on Blu Ray, Kill Bill 2 on Blu Ray.
I've got.
[01:07:05] Speaker A: Gotta make sure you see every, every, every little bit of David Carradine and high def.
[01:07:12] Speaker B: Oh yeah, I've got.
What was that for? Kill Bill, Death Proof, I think is next.
[01:07:18] Speaker A: Yeah, I think so.
[01:07:20] Speaker B: And then in Glorious Bastards, Glorious Basterds, then Django.
So Death Proof having DVD also, is
[01:07:29] Speaker A: it just Death Proof or is it a double? The double.
[01:07:32] Speaker B: The other one was by Robert Rodriguez.
[01:07:34] Speaker A: Well, but no. Did you. Do you have it just Death Proof or do you.
[01:07:38] Speaker B: I just. That's how they released it. Yes, they released the. The full versions of each separately on dvd.
And then I had the Blu Ray of Inglourious Basterds at the Blu Ray
[01:07:55] Speaker A: of Django about Once Upon a Time.
[01:07:59] Speaker B: Isn't there one between Django and Once Upon a Time? Oh yeah, I have the Blu Ray of that. And then I have the 4k of once upon A time in Hollywood.
[01:08:09] Speaker A: Hell, yeah. You gotta. You gotta see it.
[01:08:10] Speaker B: Probably his best movie. I don't know, it's hard to tell.
[01:08:12] Speaker A: I. I still just haven't sat down to watch it. I really need to. Really? You would. It. I really need.
[01:08:18] Speaker B: It's like the softest Tarantino.
[01:08:21] Speaker A: I like a Tarantino, though.
[01:08:23] Speaker B: I know you do, but I think you like this one.
This one's about friendship. It's about two buddies.
[01:08:31] Speaker A: Nice. Okay. It's about. It's about a George Clooney.
[01:08:34] Speaker B: You really haven't watched that?
[01:08:35] Speaker A: Yeah, I really haven't seen it yet.
[01:08:37] Speaker B: Really?
[01:08:38] Speaker A: Really.
It's good. I've been meaning to. I've been meaning to forget, like, since it came out.
[01:08:48] Speaker B: Came out before the pandemic.
[01:08:49] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm. I'm a bad movie watcher.
I'm a bad movie watcher, but is not a bad wall watcher. He is watching this wall and the holes. He just shot it and he's like, what the fuck is this? The fuck.
He is scared. He just charged his service weapon at nothing.
And then Twitch sneaks. Twitch shows up and like the most anime.
The most anime reveal ever.
[01:09:21] Speaker B: Looks like Dr. Robotnik.
[01:09:22] Speaker A: It does.
It looks like he's straight out of Trigun there.
Fast Stampede.
[01:09:29] Speaker B: He's like, you didn't see him, did you? And the switch is like, see who? Sam?
[01:09:33] Speaker A: Yeah, Sam's like, doesn't matter. How did you know I was here? And Twitch is like, oh, after you got kidnapped, put a. Put a child tracker on your phone so I could keep tabs on you. And he's like, you didn't respond.
[01:09:46] Speaker B: 21. Who kidnapped him? It was the lady that was acting in the basement.
[01:09:52] Speaker A: Yeah, it was at that bar. And they beat him over the head and put him in the. The trunk. Yeah, for the classic Tarantino move.
[01:09:59] Speaker B: Yeah, put him in the trunk.
[01:10:01] Speaker A: Stop trying to eat the wall, bud. Jesus. Dingus is. Dingus is trying to eat the paint off the wall over here.
He don't know.
[01:10:09] Speaker B: Hey, we all ate paint. Just a child. It's fine.
[01:10:14] Speaker A: And then so. So Sam is a little irate that he's got a baby tracker on him. And she's like, please, Sam, stop. I'm trying to help you. Let's go. Let's go have a snack.
[01:10:25] Speaker B: This lighting on him, on Sam makes him look like the fan of the
[01:10:29] Speaker A: opera a little bit.
[01:10:30] Speaker B: Yeah, because you can't see his chin. It's just getting old. Rosy cheeks.
[01:10:34] Speaker A: Or. It also does make him look a little bit like Oswald Cobblepot, AKA The Penguin.
[01:10:40] Speaker B: I know who you're talking about.
[01:10:41] Speaker A: Just in case. Just in case there are some spawn fans who don't know Oswald Cobblepot.
[01:10:45] Speaker B: Some spawn fans in Vietnam who didn't know who also Cobblepot is. We had 36 listens in Vietnam yesterday for some reason. Yeah, when was it?
[01:10:53] Speaker A: Yeah, it was yesterday, the 8th. Because Johnny. Johnny. Oh, we forgot to mention it to date this episode. Do you know what today is?
[01:11:02] Speaker B: Today is the 9th.
[01:11:05] Speaker A: What does that make it?
[01:11:07] Speaker B: No, it's not.
[01:11:08] Speaker A: It's 6. 9.
[01:11:09] Speaker B: Oh,
[01:11:12] Speaker A: you're supposed to say nice.
[01:11:14] Speaker B: No, I'm not.
[01:11:22] Speaker A: That's funny. I don't care who you are.
Johnny is. Johnny is not amused. Yo.
He is very upset with me right now.
[01:11:32] Speaker B: I'm not upset.
You've got.
[01:11:34] Speaker A: You've got upset.
But yeah, so. So Sam and Twitch go to a bar. Not a bar, a cafe, A diner.
[01:11:44] Speaker B: Diner.
[01:11:44] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:11:45] Speaker B: Jesus. The lost art of the diner. There needs to be a diner every like six miles that's open 24 hours.
[01:11:50] Speaker A: Hours. Yeah, absolutely. Definitely.
[01:11:52] Speaker B: Like, right?
[01:11:53] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[01:11:55] Speaker B: Six miles. Like from one point to one point.
[01:11:58] Speaker A: Yeah. You shouldn't be able to go.
You shouldn't be able to.
You should be able to walk to one within an hour.
From. From one diner to another. It should take you more. No more than an hour. So you can stop by for a drink and a pee.
[01:12:14] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:12:14] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:12:15] Speaker B: Get a cup of coffee. Yeah.
[01:12:17] Speaker A: Then walk to the next one. Sounds like a great way to get exercise going diner to diner.
Yeah, but. So they're. They're talking about the. They're just like. This is just.
Sam is like. I mean, I don't know what's going on. It's like he was there. I thought I saw him, but he wasn't there. Twitch is like. Yeah, I know it's fucking weird. You thought he was there.
Twitch is just like, man, this.
I know this is a bad.
This case has done a number on us both. And I think. I think you need to talk to somebody. Sam.
[01:12:49] Speaker B: It's funny because he talks to me very level headedly. And Sam says, enough with your psycho babble. Yeah, I'll figure it out. Hey, buddy, get some help.
[01:12:57] Speaker A: And Twitch is like, okay, okay, I'll let it go. But let's look at this.
[01:13:01] Speaker B: Let's. Let's.
[01:13:02] Speaker A: Let's dig a little deeper and see if we missed anything.
[01:13:05] Speaker B: Sam's more of a. Spend the money for therapy on cigarettes and booze.
[01:13:08] Speaker A: Yeah, those. Those. That is his therapist, the Marlboro Man. Is.
He tries to get them written off on insurance.
[01:13:18] Speaker B: Yes.
[01:13:20] Speaker A: Joe Camel is his therapist.
More doctors recommend Camel, actually. I guess I just love.
[01:13:29] Speaker B: Remember those old commercials with the flinters? Like, God damn, Bonnie, don't you love a Winston after a hot day at the quarry like that? Do you remember them talking about.
[01:13:38] Speaker A: I've seen. I've seen a couple.
[01:13:39] Speaker B: There's Winstone Winston cigarette commercials that are hilarious. He's like, hey, Bonnie, that smoke, a real smoke, like, winks at him.
[01:13:46] Speaker A: Yeah. Before they made it illegal to have television ads for cigarettes,
[01:13:54] Speaker B: do you remember the urban legend that there's a naked woman in the Camel on a pack of Camels? You ever hear that?
[01:13:59] Speaker A: I didn't hear that one. No.
[01:14:01] Speaker B: I heard that when I was in elementary school.
One time we got in trouble in elementary school because we found an empty pack of cigarettes in the playground. We started using the sand scoop and some kid told on me, like, why do you have cigarettes? And I was like, it was just over. It was literally yours.
No, but it was just on the playground. I was like, I don't know. I just. It was a really good sand scoop. Yeah.
[01:14:24] Speaker A: I mean, it. Was it a hard pack?
Yeah. Oh, hell yeah. That would be a great sand scoop.
[01:14:30] Speaker B: Yeah. I was playing with it and some kid told him in, like, first or second grade.
[01:14:34] Speaker A: Yeah. That little snitch.
How dare he.
Well, Johnny, I didn't have to. I didn't even have to worry about a rumor about there being a naked lady on a pack of Camels, because by the time I knew what Camels were, there were the voluptuous Camel ladies that were hanging around Joe Cool pool while he was shooting pool on the billboard.
[01:14:57] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[01:15:00] Speaker A: It was. It was just right there.
[01:15:02] Speaker B: I don't even think you can advertisement magazines anymore. They used to be their last resort.
[01:15:08] Speaker A: How do you know how long ago that would have changed? Because I know. Like, art mags when we were in college, like, juxtapose. Always, I think.
[01:15:15] Speaker B: I mean, I've looked at magazines, David. I've looked at modern magazines. There are no cigarette ads.
[01:15:20] Speaker A: That's weird.
[01:15:20] Speaker B: I would say in the last 10 to 15 years, it's changed.
[01:15:23] Speaker A: That's insane.
I.
[01:15:27] Speaker B: There might be. Maybe I'm wrong.
[01:15:29] Speaker A: For. For really. As bad as the industry is, there was some very good art.
[01:15:38] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:15:38] Speaker A: In cigarette ads, especially the cinematic landscape. Marlboro ads.
Those rocked so hard.
[01:15:51] Speaker B: You don't have to be. You don't have to convince me that I think cigarettes are cool.
[01:15:55] Speaker A: I think.
[01:15:55] Speaker B: I think I'm gonna fucking cool as.
[01:15:58] Speaker A: You're gonna go buy you can go buy a pack right now.
[01:16:01] Speaker B: No, I, I, No, I can't. I, I'm addicted. Nicotine. I vape. And that's fine. If I try to smoke a cigarette, I would feel bad. Yeah. And it's. I, I would like. I would prefer to smoke a cigarette, obviously, but.
[01:16:14] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, cigarette. Cigarette advertising. Very cool. I mean, that's like what fucking Mad Men is based around is cigarette advertising.
[01:16:23] Speaker B: And Don Draper's giant dong, the Hammonder,
[01:16:28] Speaker A: they call it hana online.
[01:16:31] Speaker B: I'm serious. That's real.
[01:16:33] Speaker A: I believe it.
[01:16:34] Speaker B: He, like, ran in some jogging shorts on a photo one time they called the Hanmakanda. Anyway, so Sam and Twitch, he's like, all right, we'll see you later. Three days later.
[01:16:44] Speaker A: Yeah. Three days later, they're hunkered behind a car getting shot at with automatic weapons.
[01:16:49] Speaker B: You know what this reminded me of? It reminded the end of dragged across
[01:16:53] Speaker A: concrete a little bit. Yeah.
[01:16:55] Speaker B: Because they're, like, hiding behind the car and there's, like, giant weapons being busted out.
[01:16:58] Speaker A: Yeah. And. And Mel Gibson's given terrible, terrible numbers.
He's given terrible odds.
[01:17:08] Speaker B: Remember that lady?
[01:17:09] Speaker A: 73%.
[01:17:10] Speaker B: They send that lady over and she tries to kill him. She kills Vince Vaughn. Yeah.
Because what are they like, we're gonna kill you unless you go kill them. Or, like, they're gonna kill her.
[01:17:20] Speaker A: I don't, I don't remember. I don't remember. There were.
[01:17:23] Speaker B: She crawls all the way over there and shoots them.
[01:17:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
That's a movie. Yeah.
And so. So Sam and Twitch were just out. They were heading back to the precinct, and they got. They were like, yeah, we're close enough to this call. We'll take it. And now they're getting shot at Johnny
[01:17:38] Speaker B: by like, a, Like a Call of Duty action figure troupe.
[01:17:44] Speaker A: Yeah. And Twitch says that there, he's got four of them. And Twitch, Sam's just like, where's that backup?
So Twitch pops up, shoots one of them real quick while Sam's screaming into a. To a radio.
And the ETA for the ESU is two minutes. And ESU is Emergency service unit.
And so Twitch reloads, and Sam's like, what are you gonna do, Twitch?
And then backup finally arrives, and the. The guys all get. All get arrested. These guys that are shooting at our
[01:18:25] Speaker B: boys, they get swatted.
[01:18:27] Speaker A: They do.
And then one of the. One of the members of the SWAT team comes over and is like, evening, gentlemen. What's the situation here? Talking to Sam and Twitch.
And Sam's just like, I'll handle this prick.
Took your sweet Ass time getting here, didn't you?
[01:18:45] Speaker B: I have a feeling this fellow is gonna be a bad guy.
[01:18:50] Speaker A: Yeah, me too.
I feel he may have been one of those shadowy figures in previous episodes. Johnny.
[01:18:58] Speaker B: Because he's like, yeah, we saved your ass. Things like.
Anyway, I heard you were doing o' Shazel cases.
[01:19:04] Speaker A: Yeah, there's, there's a little bit of ball busting here. Like, there's, There's. What took you so long? And the guy's like, I was watching the Knicks.
[01:19:11] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, that's good. Hey, timely.
[01:19:13] Speaker A: It's good. Yeah, yeah, they.
[01:19:15] Speaker B: They lost last night.
[01:19:16] Speaker A: Yeah, they sure did.
[01:19:18] Speaker B: This exciting game.
[01:19:19] Speaker A: I had it on, but I didn't really watch it because I was, I was clean last.
[01:19:22] Speaker B: Like, this thing about basketball, you just have to watch the last five minutes.
[01:19:26] Speaker A: I watched the last five minute. The last five minutes of game time that took an hour to get through.
Fucking timing out shit. Six seconds left, and they took a timeout. I was like, what the fuck? Just come on. Just come on. Yeah, come on.
[01:19:41] Speaker B: They lost it.
[01:19:42] Speaker A: Yeah, this, this SWAT guy is just like. So I hear you. You got some old Shazots stuff. Anything, Anything interesting in there?
Twitch is like, not really. Why, why, why are you asking, guys? Just like, I like the old man.
And then Sam and Twitch are both just like, man, people keep asking about this. What's a. Was this just like, the most popular cop in New York City?
[01:20:06] Speaker B: Yeah. This is the third time someone's been asked me about this.
[01:20:08] Speaker A: I like how Twitch says, what are you thinking?
[01:20:12] Speaker B: I like how Sam goes like, I think this is the time or place to talk. These fuckers are obviously in on it. Yeah.
[01:20:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
Which is like, yeah, I agree. Sam, you're stinky. Go home, take a shower.
[01:20:28] Speaker B: He actually says, you smell like shit.
[01:20:30] Speaker A: Yeah, true, but that also means stinky. And so then the next day, we're at the. They're at their desks, and Twitch is like, you finish up your report for the ESU there, Sam? And Sam's like, nah, I'm.
I need a break.
And Twitch is like, well, I already did mine. And then we get the opening rating. He's gonna go drop off his report, grab some coffee. And Sam's coffee will be heavy on
[01:20:57] Speaker B: the sugar, just like mine, baby.
[01:21:00] Speaker A: Hell, yeah, it's delicious.
[01:21:01] Speaker B: I want, like, you dip the candy bar on that piece of shit.
[01:21:04] Speaker A: I want, I want it to be thick.
So much sugar. It's like, thick and thick.
[01:21:10] Speaker B: Yeah. I want a slurry. I want to slurry.
Not really.
[01:21:14] Speaker A: I, I, I drink Just boring old, regular old black coffee every day. And I save super sugared coffee at coffee as a treat just because I. I don't have a problem getting sugar inside of my body.
[01:21:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:21:30] Speaker A: I need to. I need to find ways to avoid getting it in there just so I don't go diabetic acid quickly.
Oh, boy. I love sugar, though.
And then Sam's just looking at his desk, and there's a note on his phone that says, jack o' Shea has called multiple times. He's like, well, I haven't seen.
Has this note really been here the whole time?
[01:21:51] Speaker B: I don't remember seeing this note.
[01:21:52] Speaker A: So. So Sam calls and gets Jack's voicemail, and he leaves a message. And then when Sam. When Twitch gets back after they've had their coffee, they're going out to their car, and Sam's just like, I didn't see. I didn't see the note. Twitch, come on.
What do you think? What do you think he needed to call me? You think he's pissed that I called him a bum?
[01:22:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:22:21] Speaker A: They're both still just like, man, it's just. It's.
It's still not sitting right. And Sam's. Sam's like, I think. I think we need to go. I think we need to go talk to Jack. Let's go talk to Jack.
[01:22:30] Speaker B: O' Shea's got a lovely duplex.
[01:22:33] Speaker A: Yeah. So they drive across town. They get to o' Shea's side of the duplex, lights are off, doors open. So they're like, oh, it's going down. They're like, o', Shea. O', Shea, can you hear us? Are you good? We're coming in. We're coming in. We're gonna make sure everything's fine.
So they move. They move through, you know, in classic entering the building fashion.
And then at one point, Sam just stop or Twitch just stops in his track and goes.
I like. I like that. It's a lowercase S.
And we see o'.
[01:23:09] Speaker B: Shea.
[01:23:09] Speaker A: O'. Shea, or what's left of his head blown off. Yeah, half of it. He shot himself in the face. Or. Or we're led to believe he shot himself in the head.
He's covered in viscera and he's got some files just spilling out of his lap.
[01:23:27] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[01:23:28] Speaker A: Then we get Bloody Spot. Bloody, bloody Spawn Orb in the issue.
Oh, man, he
[01:23:37] Speaker B: looks like seven.
[01:23:39] Speaker A: He's got. He's got. He's got two unsmoked cigarettes there, Johnny. I think he was. He was still trying to decide.
Although the presence of two unsmoked cigarettes implies that he probably didn't kill himself. Because if he was gonna kill himself, why wouldn't he just be like, yeah, I'm just gonna take those. Let's do cigarettes. Come on.
Yeah, give me those. Give me those. Bad boys. He's just leaving. Death sticks around. Come on.
[01:24:01] Speaker B: I agree.
Something's up Something's fishy With o' Shea's death, We'll find out.
[01:24:06] Speaker A: Something's up with Jack Something's up with Jack what?
[01:24:10] Speaker B: That's what you think of in fucking June.
Don't know if we're ever going to get his name.
[01:24:16] Speaker A: His name is Jack. And there's something fishy going here. On here.
[01:24:19] Speaker B: He's all alone up there Locked away inside Never says a word Hope he hasn't died. Something's up with Jack Something's up with Jack in this little bric a brac A secret's waiting to be cracked these dolls and toys confuse me so Confound it all I love it though simple object nothing more but something's hidden through the door the Though I do not have the key Something's here I cannot see what does it mean?
[01:24:46] Speaker A: What does it mean?
[01:24:47] Speaker B: What does it mean?
What is it? David? So I wanted to tell you before the episode, but I feel like this is now the appropriate time to tell you today. I listened to. Because I text you about it, I was inspired to re. Listen to the Jekyll and Hyde, the gothic musical thriller. The complete work.
[01:25:05] Speaker A: It's fucking. Fucking amazing.
[01:25:06] Speaker B: It's good. It's a lot better than the Broadway one, I think.
[01:25:08] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, so much better.
[01:25:10] Speaker B: And it has the full, like, story and, like, some of the songs are a little different, but, like, it's really good.
[01:25:14] Speaker A: Yeah, it's real good. It's very good.
[01:25:17] Speaker B: That Border Governor song where he's, like, trying to, like, defend his case.
[01:25:21] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, it's. It's so good.
[01:25:24] Speaker B: And, like, facade is like. They have most of the verses, but they. It's just one big song. It's not like.
[01:25:29] Speaker A: Yeah, it's not spread out.
I do like. I do like. It's. It's much more of a social commentary than the.
The actual musical version of it. Oh, yeah, it's.
[01:25:40] Speaker B: They cut out all the, like, societal stuff.
[01:25:42] Speaker A: Yeah, but that's. It's. It's. It's so much better with all of that in there because it's the duality of man and it's a continuation of the theme that they just kind of, like, gloss over in the.
[01:25:54] Speaker B: And what's his name? The actor on the.
The concept album is much better than the guy. The other guy's a great singer, but he's a bit. The other guy's a better actor. Yeah, for sure.
[01:26:07] Speaker A: Yeah, I think. Yeah, it's good.
[01:26:11] Speaker B: Murder. I like the song. Murder, murder, murder, murder. It's the worst sin. Murder, murder.
[01:26:17] Speaker A: Well, not according to Todd McFarlane, John Johnny. According to Todd McFarlane, it's greed.
[01:26:24] Speaker B: Oh, that's right. It's the root of all evil. Yeah. Well, anyway, here's the Avatar Toys.
[01:26:28] Speaker A: Speaking of greed.
Avatar Toys, the Call of Duty Spawn toys.
[01:26:36] Speaker B: Greed.
[01:26:37] Speaker A: There new generations of story. New. You add nothing fishy there.
[01:26:44] Speaker B: Image classics. Image Classics on the back page. That's rare.
[01:26:47] Speaker A: Yeah. Interesting, interesting, interesting. And that is Sam and Twitch. 21Johnny.
[01:26:52] Speaker B: 21Jump Street.
[01:26:56] Speaker A: Where's Korean Jesus?
[01:26:59] Speaker B: Is that a line for that movie?
[01:27:00] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, because they're based out of a Korean church, the movie rules the part
[01:27:07] Speaker B: in 22 Jump Street.
[01:27:09] Speaker A: Oh, I haven't seen that one where he does.
[01:27:11] Speaker B: He's like, my name Jeff.
Where they're trying to go undercover is like two Mexican dudes like him and Chann Tatum and Jonah Hill.
[01:27:22] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:27:22] Speaker B: And like Jonah Hill's doing like a really racist accent. It's hilarious. And it's like.
Like, channel Tatiana. Can't do it. Yeah. So he's like, yeah, his name's Jeff, man. He says Jeff. He's like, say something. He's like, my name Jeff.
Because he can't do like a fake accent.
[01:27:41] Speaker A: This movies are fun.
They're real dumb. They're good.
[01:27:45] Speaker B: You haven't seen 22 jumps.
[01:27:47] Speaker A: I haven't seen it in a while.
[01:27:49] Speaker B: Do you remember the ending where it just has like 50 sequels teased?
It goes up to like 33 Jump Street. They keep doing like sequels.
[01:27:57] Speaker A: I vaguely a vague recollection, but not enough.
[01:28:00] Speaker B: You know, there was. There was in production and then it got canceled. With the Sony hack? No, got revealed. The Sony hack. They almost went to production. 23 Jump street was gonna be them joining the Men in Black.
[01:28:11] Speaker A: Wow, interesting.
[01:28:13] Speaker B: And like, Sony was like, okay. And they like, got to like pre production and then they like changed.
[01:28:18] Speaker A: That would have been very interesting thing.
[01:28:21] Speaker B: Probably would have been good. Yeah.
[01:28:23] Speaker A: Well, speaking of good, Johnny, these puppies have been very good because hardly a pe. Hardly a peep out of them. Except for the one trying to eat the.
[01:28:32] Speaker B: There's eating paint.
[01:28:33] Speaker A: Yeah, it mollifies.
It soothes the savage beast.
[01:28:38] Speaker B: Did you ever eat pain as a kid? I feel like that's like. Like, oh, he ate lead paint. Did you ever eat paint?
[01:28:42] Speaker A: No. We had wall.
[01:28:43] Speaker B: I never did. We never ate paint.
[01:28:44] Speaker A: Well, we had wallpaper. Paper instead, so I didn't eat the wallpaper, but I never. I never ate paint. No, not that I know of.
[01:28:52] Speaker B: Do you eat bugs? Is you like a guy to eat bugs? It's a dare.
[01:28:54] Speaker A: I. I eat ants.
[01:28:56] Speaker B: You eat ants?
[01:28:57] Speaker A: Ants.
[01:28:58] Speaker B: I feel like you've talked about this.
[01:29:00] Speaker A: I would. I would occasionally eat cat food.
[01:29:04] Speaker B: What?
Why?
[01:29:09] Speaker A: The cats ate it. They enjoyed it.
[01:29:11] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[01:29:12] Speaker A: It's a little salty. A little salty. It's a lot salty actually.
[01:29:16] Speaker B: Johnny, you like the guy at, like, the cafeteria line in high school that would eat like 10 jalapenos or something?
[01:29:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:29:23] Speaker B: Were you?
[01:29:23] Speaker A: No, no, I was. I wasn't into spicy until later, but. Fun. Fun fact, Johnny.
As a food product, there is a quality, controlled taste tester for every animal food facility.
One of my mom's. One of my mom's very good friends is. Has actually was the.
The quality taste tester for a local Tulsa dog food manufacturer for 25 years.
[01:29:53] Speaker B: Like a human?
[01:29:53] Speaker A: Like a human? Yes.
[01:29:55] Speaker B: And she would taste it.
[01:29:56] Speaker A: Yeah. Her job was to taste the dog food to make sure that it. What? The requirements that they had. Yeah.
What? Yeah.
[01:30:06] Speaker B: That's crazy.
[01:30:08] Speaker A: Animal food manufacturers have human taste testers at their facilities.
[01:30:14] Speaker B: This is like a popular game. How'd she start?
[01:30:16] Speaker A: I don't know. That's.
[01:30:17] Speaker B: She probably started in high school eating jalapenos.
[01:30:19] Speaker A: Maybe. Maybe. You know what?
[01:30:21] Speaker B: Could.
[01:30:21] Speaker A: I could ask her. But anyway, Johnny, that's a long way to say that. We got to rate these puppies.
[01:30:25] Speaker B: It's time to rate the puppies.
First up, we had Rat City 21. It was awesome. It's great. It's a culmination of so much of the story.
[01:30:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:30:37] Speaker B: It's just it, like, I don't know. I think it's. It's the best, like, for, like, ongoing story and like, building a world.
I think it's the best bang for your buck and getting sponsored universe, I think.
[01:30:48] Speaker A: Oh, absolutely.
[01:30:49] Speaker B: Because consistent one author, it's not Tom McFarlane coming on and doing, like, a cell phone story.
[01:30:54] Speaker A: Tom.
[01:30:54] Speaker B: And finally presents a cell phone story we had last week.
[01:30:59] Speaker A: Mark, I called you and 14 other people out on a crypt.
[01:31:02] Speaker B: So refreshing to see a story that's like, talk down to you.
[01:31:05] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:31:05] Speaker B: It's just so well done. And it was the fun and I missed Rat City. I'm glad we got to revisit it.
[01:31:11] Speaker A: Oh, and it just moves too.
[01:31:12] Speaker B: Every character is important, and it's like, it's like a great TV show where, like, everything little thing matters. And you know what? I'm gonna give it five everyday carries out of five.
[01:31:26] Speaker A: Hell yeah.
[01:31:27] Speaker B: Angel's everyday carry.
[01:31:28] Speaker A: I agree, Johnny. It is.
It is very good.
It is. It's great.
[01:31:36] Speaker B: Awesome.
[01:31:37] Speaker A: I care about every single character in this book.
Every single one of them.
[01:31:41] Speaker B: It doesn't waste.
Like, we had so many great things in this issue.
[01:31:45] Speaker A: It's so efficient.
[01:31:46] Speaker B: Becker and Peter finding we had the reveal of what the progeny is. And like, we had Viscerator as queen of hell, which is like, so cool and nerdy in the Swans universe. It's just. It's pulling from everything and it's really. It's the.
[01:31:59] Speaker A: The. The heartbreak of Kingsman.
Kings. Yeah, Kingman.
[01:32:04] Speaker B: Well, it's cool. They can, like, you know.
18 issues. 18, 19 issues in. Add a new character we care about.
[01:32:10] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:32:11] Speaker B: And I'm interested about this ongoing problem that everyone.
So my. I think that PTS used some kind of necroplasm in the creation of their.
[01:32:21] Speaker A: They had. Yeah, they had.
[01:32:22] Speaker B: They had to have. Yeah. And they didn't know. Or they knew, but they, like, it won't matter. But when Spawn did his thing.
[01:32:28] Speaker A: Yeah. Or like, if it's like a legacy piece of like, plague spawn that they use.
[01:32:34] Speaker B: It's like how the government's taken UAPs, David. And taking tech from. And making our smartphones.
[01:32:41] Speaker A: Okay, Johnny.
[01:32:42] Speaker B: What?
I saw a hilarious meme like, a few months ago that was like, this is how crazy 2026 is. It was like, normal people. Aliens are real. Conspiracy people. No, they're not.
[01:32:57] Speaker A: I'm gonna give this. Johnny, I'm gonna give it five. The rat version of the progeny falling
[01:33:02] Speaker B: and screaming moment in the. I just saw this movie where the cat just, like, catches the mouse.
[01:33:09] Speaker A: Yeah. It's excellent.
Do you know what that means, Johnny?
[01:33:13] Speaker B: It's a member of the Hellfire club.
[01:33:14] Speaker A: Yeah, it has been. I was thinking about giving you a tease and maybe pretending like it wasn't gonna be in there, but I always
[01:33:21] Speaker B: give it 4.5 with the soccer bundle.
[01:33:22] Speaker A: No, it's. It's fucking. It's a fucking great issue. Rat City is just top tier. It's so good.
[01:33:27] Speaker B: It was better than my 21st birthday, let me tell you that.
[01:33:30] Speaker A: Oh, my 21st birthday ended very poorly.
[01:33:34] Speaker B: Me too.
[01:33:34] Speaker A: Well, I think most of them do. But. Yeah, that's the point.
[01:33:38] Speaker B: Right?
[01:33:38] Speaker A: Yeah. The. The next time I got anywhere close to that drunk was that baseball game we went to.
[01:33:44] Speaker B: Oh, God, David, you were fucked up.
How did you get that drunk?
[01:33:49] Speaker A: I have no idea how I got that drunk. That was wild. That was so insane. And I fucking fell asleep on the train on the way home, and then I fell asleep at the bus.
[01:33:59] Speaker B: Did you drink a lot of beer?
[01:34:00] Speaker A: Yeah, I fell asleep on the. At the bus stop waiting for the bus. And then when I got home, I fell asleep in my.
Oh, I'm not allowed to get baseball drunk anymore.
[01:34:14] Speaker B: Did I give you one of Brian's gummies? Is that what it was?
[01:34:16] Speaker A: No, that was. No, that's another time. That was. That was another. That I. Oh, that was freaked out. Oh. Oh, boy. I was like, I cannot be out in public.
[01:34:28] Speaker B: Yeah, it happened to me.
[01:34:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
And then I. I did have to come home and sleep that one off, but that wasn't. That wasn't. How the. Did I get home. Actually, I really do remember my trip home entirely.
[01:34:39] Speaker B: And, like, I remember because we went downtown.
[01:34:41] Speaker A: Yeah, we went downtown.
[01:34:42] Speaker B: We went to the comic shop. I bought, like, 100 magazines. This was like a thousand dollars.
[01:34:46] Speaker A: Yeah, I.
[01:34:47] Speaker B: No, I spent, like, a hundred bucks on magazines.
[01:34:49] Speaker A: Yeah, I. Comics. I set up a new. A new pull list because work was moving down to where that.
Yeah, yeah.
And then we went our separate ways.
[01:35:01] Speaker B: Yeah.
And you were hoarse and couldn't record that week because.
[01:35:06] Speaker A: Well, but we. If you remember, we did.
I just. I just sounded like this.
[01:35:11] Speaker B: Oh, really?
[01:35:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:35:13] Speaker B: Oh, you cancel once.
[01:35:14] Speaker A: Might have canceled once, but there were definitely a couple of episodes where I was still trying to get you.
[01:35:20] Speaker B: You yelled so hard at a guy. You're like, you got that guy out.
[01:35:23] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:35:23] Speaker B: You yelled the batter from the other team so hard. And a guy in the stands like, yo, you struck that guy out. You're fucking with him.
[01:35:33] Speaker A: Absolutely insane.
[01:35:34] Speaker B: Just like that issue of Rat City.
[01:35:36] Speaker A: Yes.
[01:35:36] Speaker B: And then we have Sam and Twitch 21.
[01:35:39] Speaker A: Not as good as Rat City, but very good.
[01:35:42] Speaker B: I didn't mean to have such a pause. I was just collecting my thoughts.
Yeah, it's good.
[01:35:48] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:35:49] Speaker B: I love it. I love this new story.
I'm excited to see where it goes. I like that. It's like hinting. It's like a deeper police conspiracy.
It's fun.
[01:35:59] Speaker A: It's very good. I like the art. The art is very good. I like.
[01:36:03] Speaker B: We didn't talk about the art for our city. Oh, it's great.
[01:36:05] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. Say, Carlos, we're art farts. Yeah.
[01:36:11] Speaker B: We have to have a stamp. Like an art fart and a stamp noise if we ever forget to talk about the art.
[01:36:17] Speaker A: Sorry, sorry.
[01:36:18] Speaker B: I'm just coming up with bits. I'm gonna have, like, 50 new bits we have to keep up with after this episode.
I've already got. I've already got. Roll that beautiful B cover.
[01:36:25] Speaker A: B cover.
[01:36:28] Speaker B: Or should be. Let's roll that beautiful B cover.
[01:36:31] Speaker A: Yeah, you. You. You mentioned a stamp, and all I can think about is the old guy in the library in the Last Crusade stamping the books.
[01:36:41] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[01:36:43] Speaker A: He's just like, I'm just gonna set this right here.
[01:36:46] Speaker B: Why stamp? I think like a person's picture. It's a red stamp that goes cancel.
[01:36:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:36:52] Speaker B: I thought it was a great issue. I love the story.
I like. They. They had the killer up in front. We've seen him a lot. He wasn't in this issue.
I like the restraint and like the flow. I like this issue. I thought it was really good.
I think this is so far probably my.
The most intriguing to me at this point. At the same time.
[01:37:14] Speaker A: Oh, absolutely. No.
[01:37:16] Speaker B: No question was fine. It was a little clumsy.
Too many.
[01:37:22] Speaker A: Too many.
Todd put too many pieces in it. Thomas Healy has a smaller number of pieces, so that way the mystery is actually allowed.
[01:37:31] Speaker B: And I like that he's showing us them as on the job.
[01:37:34] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[01:37:36] Speaker B: One thing Stephen King says in on writing.
No matter. People love hearing about a job and writing, like a specific job. Like, just like your character a job and do research on it. And like, people love hearing about work.
[01:37:49] Speaker A: Like, that's one of the best things about Andor is literally we get to see the bathroom of a spaceship and somebody just cleaning up, just, you know, washing their hands, washing their face. That shit. I fucking love that shit.
Slice of life. Give me that slice of life.
Give me the business job. But I like.
[01:38:11] Speaker B: I really like his vibe on this is. What is the third issue of his arc?
[01:38:15] Speaker A: Something like that.
Third.
[01:38:17] Speaker B: I think I'm digging it.
I'm gonna give it four diners every mile.
[01:38:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:38:24] Speaker B: Four diners every mile.
[01:38:26] Speaker A: Four diners every mile. Oh, boy.
[01:38:28] Speaker B: You should be within one mile of four diners at any point in your life. You know, I've rediscovered. Because of Megan, but because also being back in Tulsa. And it rocks.
There's only a few left now. A lot of them are close, but the village in. On Harvard Village.
[01:38:43] Speaker A: Do they still do. Do they still do their happy hour with the pie?
[01:38:46] Speaker B: They do free pie. Like Wednesdays or Tuesdays. I got a free piece of pie at breakfast.
[01:38:51] Speaker A: Hell yeah. Village Inn, they do pie happy hour.
[01:38:54] Speaker B: They have a bunch of deals. They do bingo.
[01:38:56] Speaker A: Nice.
[01:38:58] Speaker B: But it's great food. It's always good. It's good.
[01:39:00] Speaker A: Breakfast Village Inn is good.
[01:39:01] Speaker B: Got my car stolen from a Village Inn recently when I was 19.
[01:39:07] Speaker A: Oh. So no dang.
[01:39:10] Speaker B: 21 years ago someone stole my car for that Village Inn.
[01:39:14] Speaker A: Damn. Well, yeah, I, I agree, Johnny. I. I'm liking the story. I'm liking the.
Instead of trying to confuse us with a whole bunch of different happening at once, there's, it's built, it's built much more in a classical mystery fashion. And I'm.
[01:39:30] Speaker B: And I like the second one because it was so big. After the first one, it was like they climbed like a skyscraper. I did like the second second one a lot too. I did, I did it. It was just really long.
[01:39:37] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:39:38] Speaker B: And I don't know how long this is going to be. We'll see.
[01:39:40] Speaker A: Yeah. Who knows? I am going to give this four packs of cigarettes, Johnny. Cuz they, they. Von Randall is not shying away from Sam with a pack of cigarettes. Same with a pack of cigarettes.
[01:39:54] Speaker B: Since we're doing two 21s when I was 21 years old, if I have four pack of cigarettes, I feel like one lucky.
[01:40:01] Speaker A: Oh, hell yeah. Especially if they were lucky.
[01:40:04] Speaker B: I never liked lucky. I was a camel, man. I was looking for that naked woman.
That's D in the sand, David.
[01:40:14] Speaker A: Oh man.
[01:40:16] Speaker B: Unless those puppies rated.
[01:40:17] Speaker A: That's those puppies rated, Johnny. Pretty good. Do you know what else is pretty good, Johnny?
The spawn munity.
[01:40:30] Speaker B: Thank you.
[01:40:30] Speaker A: And this week, this week we're gonna shout out Darren Pole.
And it's Darren Pole illustrations. It's D, A, R, R, E, N, P O L illustrations, all one word. He's got.
He's got some spawn art that he's done. He's got some spawn that he's collected. Hey, Johnny. He also has an Erica Schultz original wristband and a tiny Spawny sticker that he received from tiny Spawny. So hey, he's tiny Spawny approved. So good company. Good company with Darren Paul.
[01:41:05] Speaker B: That's all you want?
[01:41:07] Speaker A: Does. Does some fantastic art. You should. Should give him a follow.
We love it.
Wow, that's a lot of spawn art. Holy shit.
[01:41:16] Speaker B: Holy shit.
[01:41:17] Speaker A: Holy schnick.
While you're on the Instagram, give us a follow. Regarding Spawn Pod.
I am back on there and I'm not as active as I probably should be, but it's fine, it's fine.
We'll.
We'll talk to you eventually.
If you don't like using make it
[01:41:37] Speaker B: part of the meta. David, it's fine. I ran the Instagram. I don't like doing social media.
[01:41:42] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:41:43] Speaker B: So I stopped doing it and Davis took over because he's good human being and sweet boy.
[01:41:48] Speaker A: I'm spending most of my time on Instagram, though, on my regular account, just posting pictures of dogs.
[01:41:54] Speaker B: Is that the toasty post?
[01:41:55] Speaker A: I haven't toasty posted in a long.
[01:41:57] Speaker B: Oh, my God, man.
[01:42:01] Speaker A: All my toasty posts are still up there. You should go. If you. If you haven't had a piece of toast recently, go get a piece of toast, man. I love toast. It's so good.
[01:42:13] Speaker B: Toast is good.
[01:42:13] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:42:13] Speaker B: You know, you know what toast looks good in, like, media Wallace and Gromit. He's got that jam on that toast, that claymason jam looks tasty. It's like a strawberry, like mass produced British jam. It looks good.
[01:42:26] Speaker A: Very good. Yeah, it does look very good. If you would like to get a
[01:42:30] Speaker B: porridge today, Grommet Tuesday.
He's.
Yeah, he said, oh, his birthday.
A grommet's actual birthday.
[01:42:43] Speaker A: Is that the. Is that the one where he goes, I. I'm in the mood for food and it gets caught in the little chute?
[01:42:52] Speaker B: Is that.
[01:42:52] Speaker A: Is that the same one?
[01:42:53] Speaker B: That's. That's probably the movie.
[01:42:55] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, because he has to go on a diet in the movie because it puts his sweater on him. He's like, oh, oh.
[01:43:02] Speaker B: Because he's the were rabbit.
[01:43:03] Speaker A: Yeah.
But yeah, if. If you don't like using social media but you would still like to reach out to us, email us at Regarding Spun Pot gmail dot com.
We're still trying to find some.
A new.
[01:43:19] Speaker B: How long will you do this, David?
[01:43:20] Speaker A: I don't know. If you tell me to stop, I'll stop.
[01:43:23] Speaker B: No, let's keep doing it.
[01:43:24] Speaker A: I would love to give this Violator series to somebody. It doesn't matter where you live.
If you're in Hanoi and you are listening to the show, email us a way to send you a trade paperback of the 1993 Violator series.
Yes, I would. I would love to send it to you. Absolutely.
[01:43:46] Speaker B: We'll figure it out.
[01:43:47] Speaker A: Yeah. You know what else we're gonna figure out, Johnny?
[01:43:50] Speaker B: What? How?
[01:43:51] Speaker A: We're gonna give love to Lonnie Bones because he does our music.
[01:43:54] Speaker B: He does our music. He did all our songs. All the music you love.
[01:43:57] Speaker A: So very good.
[01:43:59] Speaker B: It is very good.
[01:44:00] Speaker A: Yes, indeed.
[01:44:01] Speaker B: What else is good is talking to you about Spawn. I'd love to do that next week.
[01:44:05] Speaker A: I would love that. I would love nothing more, Johnny.
[01:44:08] Speaker B: What are we reading, maestro?
[01:44:10] Speaker A: What shall we read next week? Well, next week we're going to read.
[01:44:13] Speaker B: You're like Bugs Bunny when he's like the conductor. What are we reading?
[01:44:19] Speaker A: We are going to be reading a couple of issues from Spontino, if you can believe it. I don't know.
I hope you're sitting down, Johnny. We're gonna be reading some Spawn.
Okay, we're gonna be reading spawn371 and kingspawn52.
And Johnny, you're gonna be happy to hear this.
Not a double McFarlane week because Roy McConville is back on King Spawn trying very hard to make sure we don't have another double McFarlane week. Because they do get kind of rough when there are multiple.
They do get rough. Love you, Todd. But.
[01:45:02] Speaker B: But we know exactly when everything happens.
[01:45:06] Speaker A: I think I know too well when everything.
[01:45:09] Speaker B: 9:56am I would like a little bit
[01:45:11] Speaker A: more mystery in the timeline. Thank you very much.
[01:45:14] Speaker B: No, they're all gonna call each other. They're all gonna sit around and call each other. And remember that
[01:45:21] Speaker A: we got. We got that 10 minute phone conversation between.
[01:45:24] Speaker B: I think about it more like because I'm editing the episode right now as we're recording this and I'm like, man, they're just talking their cell phone this whole issue and be like, no, this obvious plot hole doesn't make sense because I know about it.
I'm acknowledging that this might be a plot hole, but I'm explaining why it's not.
[01:45:46] Speaker A: I can't wait till we get the issue that is just we get to hear what everyone. Everybody's voicemail messages.
[01:45:52] Speaker B: Yeah, they're always. They're like, Mark.
[01:45:56] Speaker A: Mark definitely, definitely is. As the most technologically advanced person just has the stock.
This.
[01:46:04] Speaker B: I have a number.
Stock number. Yeah, I think.
I think it might say my name.
[01:46:11] Speaker A: I used to have a voicemail. Yeah, I know. Mine definitely is me saying, hey, I'm not available. Leave. Leave a message. Maybe not in the most professional manner,
[01:46:21] Speaker B: but I think my most recent voicemail, the last one I recorded was, hey, you reached the cell phone to John Fisher.
Leave me a voicemail. I'll get back to you. Or better yet, shoot me a text. Because my one time my dad called me, he heard that the first time. He's like, that was really clever.
[01:46:41] Speaker A: The first time you heard that was in 2004.
[01:46:44] Speaker B: That's probably 2016. That was my voicemail.
[01:46:48] Speaker A: Oh, dang.
[01:46:48] Speaker B: And then I was like hiding from the government. So I was like, I'm gonna go to number only my.
[01:46:56] Speaker A: Occasionally. Occasionally I was allowed to change the family answering machine message and my Favorite ever was I took the song Sugar from System of a Down and queued it up just for the sugar.
And I said, we can't come to the phone right now because we're out buying some sugar.
We'll call you right back when we get home.
And I think about how much time I spent trying to put that together. So that way, when I hit the play button on my CD player, it started at Sugar. And not like a couple of milliseconds too early or too late to fucking ruin the answering machine message. I was so proud of that goddamn thing.
[01:47:42] Speaker B: That's awesome.
[01:47:44] Speaker A: I fucking. I miss the art of just. The stupid answering machine message used to be.
[01:47:50] Speaker B: David. Yes, after the beep.
[01:47:53] Speaker A: Well, after the beep, I'm gonna tell you that I have nothing left to say except.
Beep.
May the scorch be with you.
[01:48:03] Speaker B: Come up with your best spawn answering machine.
[01:48:10] Speaker A: Oh, it's best spawn answering machine.
[01:48:13] Speaker B: What would be your spawn?
[01:48:14] Speaker A: We're talking. We're talking us doing spawn stuff. Or like, what would. Al Simmons.
[01:48:21] Speaker B: No, no, no. Like, if you had to make a voicemail out, you know, recording okay for yourself now, but it had to be spawn related.
It's like you have to make a spot. What would it be?
I would say,
[01:48:53] Speaker A: Sam,
[01:49:32] Speaker B: It was just playing sound, and then it just. Silence after it, and then it just goes to the song. I'm serious.
[01:49:41] Speaker A: Play what sound? A beep sound.
[01:49:43] Speaker B: We just go. We say a couple times. And then it just is silent. And then it goes silent after that, and then it just goes.
[01:49:53] Speaker A: We could do that.
[01:49:54] Speaker B: I think that's funny.
[01:49:55] Speaker A: That's funny. That's funny as hell.
[01:49:57] Speaker B: Okay, say a couple times, just to get some arms.
We could say.
[01:50:03] Speaker A: We could. You could do.
We could have.
[01:50:07] Speaker B: That's good. That's good. All right. This could be a good ending.
You're. Oh, you're doing it.
Yeah. Okay. You know what I mean?
Just have. It's a tr. It's a fake out.
It's just another hour.
Yeah, yeah, Whatever you want to do. It's your. You're the maestro.
Okay.
