Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: Who was. Who was it? Who the fuck did this to my dad?
[00:00:04] Speaker B: Near as we can tell, he's some new player been running around the last few months in some fancy costume.
They call him Spawn.
Good evening and welcome to the Malibu. This is regarding Spawn, the world's best Spawn podcast. I'm your co host, John Fisher.
[00:00:54] Speaker A: And I'm your co host, David Williams. And I made a slate to the recording because I had to catch the ice cream truck.
[00:01:02] Speaker B: That's good.
[00:01:03] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, that's good. There weren't. Weren't any finger paints or nothing, so it was. It was on the up and up.
[00:01:09] Speaker B: Did you get a Sonic the Hedgehog?
[00:01:11] Speaker A: No, they've got a soft serve machine, so I just get the swirl.
[00:01:14] Speaker B: Oh, they have a Sonic the Hedgehog, though, with the gumball.
[00:01:18] Speaker A: This one doesn't. There's a. There's another one that does, but this one just has the soft serve machine.
[00:01:24] Speaker B: I like this. I like. I like the Sonic.
[00:01:27] Speaker A: It was come out looking so weird.
[00:01:29] Speaker B: They're like, how much is a soft serve in the mean streets of Chicago now?
[00:01:33] Speaker A: It's now three bucks.
[00:01:35] Speaker B: Not bad. They take Venmo?
[00:01:37] Speaker A: Yeah, they do, actually, but I got a. It's a. My cash. Any cash. Time I have cash, it sits right next to the door in case they hear the. The ice cream truck.
[00:01:48] Speaker B: Yes. Always a treat.
[00:01:50] Speaker A: It is. It's. It's summertime, Johnny. It's hot times in the city.
Hot times. Summer in the city, I guess you could say.
[00:01:58] Speaker B: David, I was on.
I was at work today, and my work involves going around the city a lot. And I'm not gonna reveal what my job is, but it involves going around Tulsa.
[00:02:06] Speaker A: Nice. And you are. You are the mayor of Tulsa.
[00:02:10] Speaker B: Maybe I'm Spawn. Maybe I'm Spawn. I'm wearing a Spawn. I'm wearing my Spawn Con Year one shirt.
[00:02:14] Speaker A: Ooh, nice. It's a. It's a beautiful shirt. That's the. That's the one I didn't get because I wasn't physically there. That was the special one.
Oh, no, wait. No, I'm thinking of the hat. I have that shirt. It's the hat.
[00:02:25] Speaker B: You have the shirt?
[00:02:26] Speaker A: Yeah, it was the. The hat with the orb that I didn't get because that was.
[00:02:29] Speaker B: I got one.
[00:02:30] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:02:33] Speaker B: I'm trying to say it. I fit into it again, which is always a good feeling.
This one. Those T shirts that rise the lines, man. Like in the winter, maybe I don't fit into it, but in the summer. Oh, yeah.
[00:02:44] Speaker A: Johnny, Johnny, I. I cracked into my My.
My cask of old pants that I thought I'd never fit into again.
And we've got, like, maybe a month or two before I can put them back into the regular rotation.
[00:02:59] Speaker B: Nice. Good job, dude.
[00:03:01] Speaker A: Hell, yeah.
[00:03:02] Speaker B: Anyway, so I was going around the city, downtown Tulsa today, and there's an ice cream truck.
[00:03:08] Speaker A: Oh, hell yeah.
[00:03:09] Speaker B: But I was at work and, like, I was like, but I should get one.
But I didn't. But next time I see it, if I do, if I'm down there again, I'll get one.
[00:03:16] Speaker A: Nobody, nobody, nobody will be thankful to be rescued by a superhero with just, like, ice cream drippings on their uniform.
[00:03:23] Speaker B: Exactly.
If you've heard any reports of crime getting stopped in downtown Tulsa, I can either confirm or deny that it has anything to do with me. Then you've.
[00:03:32] Speaker A: Then you've just heard about Johnny being arrested.
[00:03:35] Speaker B: What?
[00:03:35] Speaker A: You're doing the crime Johnny?
[00:03:38] Speaker B: Never. I'd be the one ruining children's lives by killing their criminal fathers.
And then.
[00:03:46] Speaker A: And then later having them be part of your group of people who go out, beat up bed and then meeting their future selves.
[00:03:55] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:03:55] Speaker A: Yeah,
[00:03:57] Speaker B: I used. Wait, what are you talking today? Are you talking about spawn reading today?
[00:04:04] Speaker A: I'm.
[00:04:04] Speaker B: I'm.
[00:04:04] Speaker A: I'm talking about. Well, technically scorched now. Because you are pretty. Because. Because you are the costume vigilante who's killing the bad parents, thereby making an Eddie, and then Eddie grows up.
[00:04:16] Speaker B: No, we're making the main character. Fucking kingspawn.
[00:04:19] Speaker A: 51, baby.
[00:04:20] Speaker B: That's what I'm talking about.
[00:04:21] Speaker A: 52.
[00:04:22] Speaker B: Oh, it's 52.
[00:04:23] Speaker A: Yeah. I hope you. I hope you read 52 today.
[00:04:26] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:04:29] Speaker A: But if we could tangent really quick. I. I wanted to send you a picture of this so bad, but I. I was at the bookstore today and I bought myself a little book, Johnny, and it's called the Luminous Fairies and Mothra.
It's the original short story where Matra is created.
[00:04:47] Speaker B: That's cool. It's a little thin, but.
[00:04:49] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a little thin. Boy, I'm so fucking excited. As much as I love Godzilla, Johnny Mothra is my queen.
[00:04:56] Speaker B: You know what? On the Godzilla channel, those 90s Mothra movies are pretty dope.
[00:05:01] Speaker A: Oh, the return to Mothra with the little kids.
[00:05:03] Speaker B: Kids, yeah. It's like Home Alone Mothra.
[00:05:05] Speaker A: And then there's like. There's like a good.
[00:05:06] Speaker B: They're good special effects.
[00:05:08] Speaker A: There's like a Rita Repulsa. Lady.
[00:05:11] Speaker B: I watched. I watched like this. That and the sequel at least twice on Pluto tv.
[00:05:15] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, man, I wish they would bring it back. I loved having that on. It was so good.
Have you seen the, the Derpy. The Derpy Godzilla poster? They have it like Walmart and family. Family dollar dollar tree. Oh, it's just like a, the older ones, it's just a God. Like a close up on the Godzilla face and he's going, I love Godzilla.
[00:05:40] Speaker B: Oh, Godzilla. What is that song?
[00:05:44] Speaker A: Go Godzilla.
Blue Oyster Cults, I think.
[00:05:49] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, that came on my Apple music the other day and it was awesome. Go Godzilla.
I love Godzilla. Every time I think about a Godzilla thing, which is every day, so they always recommend it to me. I think they're sending it to you. And I'm like, that'd be too much Godzilla stuff, Johnny.
[00:06:03] Speaker A: There's no such thing.
At the comic book store today, there was a little, a little plushie Godzilla that has a zippable mouth.
I don't know what the zippable mouth means, but you can, you can fuck
[00:06:14] Speaker B: his mouth and zip your dick up in it if that's your fetish.
Someone's definitely had a dream. Someone in the world has had a dream where they're getting their dick sucked and their mouth turns into a zipper and their dick gets caught in it. I haven't. Someone has.
[00:06:27] Speaker A: Oh, if you've had that dream, don't email us at. Regarding smoking no.com.
we'll read it. We'll read your. We'll read your email live on air, as always, live on the recording.
[00:06:41] Speaker B: What was that email again, David?
[00:06:43] Speaker A: Regarding SpawnPod. Gmail.com.
[00:06:46] Speaker B: and that is our email because we are respawn.
[00:06:50] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:06:50] Speaker B: Regarding Spawn.
[00:06:51] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:06:51] Speaker B: Where each week we're bringing two issues from Spawn's universe. Except when we don't. This week is no different.
This week we have the entirety of spawn in two issues. I love. You know what? I like the McFarlane too.
Dude. It was so funny when they said they ate him for 10 minutes. Yeah, I, I, I almost died. I almost, like, dropped it.
The.
[00:07:15] Speaker A: Yeah, we, we'll get into it, but. Yeah, I agree with you, Johnny. I agree with you. This is, this is everything we love about Spawn in two issues.
Yes. I'm loving this. I'm loving this. King Spawn issues that are just like, you want something crazy? Let's throw this shit at you here.
[00:07:32] Speaker B: You're like Twilight Zone.
[00:07:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:07:33] Speaker B: Like Spawn. Like, it's like a. Or like reminds me of Irobot. I know that sounds crazy, but iRobot's like nine short stories about, like, what does. What is. Well, how would technology push the Boundaries of the three laws of robotics and how to get around it or whatever. Around it? Yeah, you know, and there are nine stories about that and their mysteries. Kind of like. It's like. It reminds me. It's like a genre that's lost. It's like old Star Trek episodes, Twilight Zone episodes.
[00:07:59] Speaker A: It's a short story. Yeah, yeah. It's like a compendium of short stories.
[00:08:03] Speaker B: Or like an episode of the Shadow on radio.
[00:08:06] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. It's like an old school serial. Like reading the old. Like an old Dashiell Hammett book of short stories.
Yeah. It's good as hell.
[00:08:17] Speaker B: Like, I. This is my new, like, maybe number one, like, go to for, like, first Spawn issue.
[00:08:21] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:08:22] Speaker B: Six in the top ten.
[00:08:24] Speaker A: This one's just. This one's so good.
[00:08:26] Speaker B: It was amazing.
[00:08:27] Speaker A: And like. Like, it's just like. It's like a.
I like this nice, deep well of just, like, new characters that you can fall in love with, and then conveniently, you can forget almost immediately afterwards if you need to.
[00:08:42] Speaker B: I mean, I felt like a movie.
[00:08:43] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, they should make a King's Fun movie, don't you think?
[00:08:47] Speaker B: No. You know who should write the Kingspawn movie is fucking Rory McConnell.
[00:08:50] Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely.
Absolutely.
But they spent all that money on that script that.
[00:08:58] Speaker B: I mean. David, what are we doing? We're talking about Spawn on our podcast. What is wrong with us?
But we're getting ahead of ourselves because we're talking about 52, so.
[00:09:05] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:09:06] Speaker B: And each week. I didn't finish it. I didn't finish it.
[00:09:10] Speaker A: We're too excited.
[00:09:11] Speaker B: Each week we bring you. I didn't say this part yet, did I?
[00:09:14] Speaker A: No, no, no, no. Where.
[00:09:15] Speaker B: Each week we bring you two issues from Spawn's universe. Except when we don't. This week is no different.
[00:09:22] Speaker A: Absolutely.
[00:09:22] Speaker B: Two issues of Sponsor universe. The most heavily featured Spawn.
[00:09:25] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:09:26] Speaker B: They're kind of old school, both of them, and I. Spoiler alert. I like them both a lot.
It was just what I needed when I read them.
[00:09:33] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. The. The Todd McFarlane isn't too Todd McFarlane. It's, like, just enough.
[00:09:38] Speaker B: Oh, it is. No, it's too. That's why it's good.
[00:09:43] Speaker A: I can't. I can't hold it back anymore. My problem is that he, like Todd McFarlane, has become Tommy two times, and he needs. He needs to just cut one of the times out, and everything would be so much better.
Yeah, Quit with the Tommy two times.
[00:10:00] Speaker B: What do you mean, Tommy two times?
[00:10:02] Speaker A: He says everything twice.
[00:10:04] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
[00:10:06] Speaker A: He could just say it once. And it would be.
[00:10:07] Speaker B: He wants to make sure you understand.
[00:10:08] Speaker A: It would be.
[00:10:09] Speaker B: It would be perfect if there were no plot holes.
Blood set an alarm on his phone. He goes, siri set an alarm for 10 minutes.
And he sat there and just, like, chilled in a chair with Spawn while they ate the corpse of the angel for 10 minutes exactly.
[00:10:29] Speaker A: But she didn't.
[00:10:30] Speaker B: He was like, all right, let's go.
[00:10:34] Speaker A: It's the same. It's the same 10 minutes of the phone call from.
From Jessica Priest and Terry.
They overlap. Overlap. It's like.
What movie.
What movie is it that takes place over the same amount of time? And it's the different angles. I know there's a lot of them, but Run.
That's. I haven't seen three.
[00:10:58] Speaker B: I have three versions of the story,
[00:11:01] Speaker A: but, I mean, I guess three multiple different versions is kind of the Rashomon.
[00:11:05] Speaker B: It's kind of like Rashomon.
[00:11:07] Speaker A: Yeah. Basis.
I don't know what I'm thinking of. Maybe I'm thinking of a TV show.
[00:11:12] Speaker B: The Last Jedi, because that is kind of Rashomon with the Kylo Ren Luke killing Kylo Ren story. See, from Kylo Ren's point of view. See from Luke's point of view, yeah.
Somewhere in them, it's probably somewhere in the middle.
[00:11:23] Speaker A: Rashomon. It's a.
It's a good movie. But, boy, howdy, is it tough to get through.
Not because it's poorly made, but the subject matter.
Very difficult. I couldn't be on a. I couldn't be in a. A peer that isn't a jury for that very reason. It's too much.
[00:11:45] Speaker B: You shouldn't be a peer in a jury.
I've been a peer jury. I've had a jury. I've been on a jury, David. I've served my country a million goddamn times.
[00:11:56] Speaker A: I've not. I've not even gotten a summons. Wanda got.
[00:11:59] Speaker B: I got three when I was in Chicago.
[00:12:01] Speaker A: Yeah. Wanda's gotten three of them.
[00:12:04] Speaker B: What the.
[00:12:09] Speaker A: I'd be excited to be doing my civic duty, but I was crazy.
I don't. I don't know. I think. I think I would be bounced out of there pretty quickly, though, because I don't think I fit any lawyer's conception of good jury material.
[00:12:28] Speaker B: I was like the dream client. I don't think I can talk about it.
[00:12:32] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:12:32] Speaker B: Can you? There are books and shit.
[00:12:35] Speaker A: I don't know. Let's.
I don't know.
I don't. I don't know the rules. I've never Been called. I've never.
[00:12:40] Speaker B: Here's what I feel comfortable saying about was a civil lawsuit.
[00:12:45] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:12:46] Speaker B: The civil court downtown, it was like in. Right by a little village in Chicago. So great. Fucking tacos for lunch.
[00:12:52] Speaker A: Oh, down. Down on California.
[00:12:54] Speaker B: That was. So that's where you go for. Okay, sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself. That's where you go for intake.
[00:12:59] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:12:59] Speaker B: That's what they. That's. And then I had to go to the.
The court. Your house down.
Selected for a jury. And I WORE Evil Dead 2 shirt.
[00:13:12] Speaker A: I mean for a period of time there, I almost didn't recognize you if you weren't wearing your Evil Dead 2 shirt.
[00:13:18] Speaker B: Because I did love that shirt because
[00:13:20] Speaker A: it was like, that's. That's just how Johnny looks like. If we were. They were to make a cartoon of you, he would be wearing the Evil Dead 2 shirt.
[00:13:29] Speaker B: Yeah. Are you wearing your Violator shirt? No.
[00:13:30] Speaker A: You're wearing a. I'm wearing a. An animal rescue shirt.
[00:13:34] Speaker B: Oh, that's good.
[00:13:35] Speaker A: I.
I don't know.
[00:13:37] Speaker B: I finished my story about being a jerk.
[00:13:39] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:13:41] Speaker B: So it was in the downtown courthouse in Chicago and we had to be there like seven o'clock in the morning.
[00:13:46] Speaker A: Gross.
[00:13:47] Speaker B: It was crazy. And I took public transportation, so I leave like 5:30 in the morning.
I was there to like 4 usually.
[00:13:54] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:13:54] Speaker B: For two days.
And it was a civil lawsuit. There was a bike collision and someone was suing the other one for like a lot of money because they. Their hips got up forever or something. Bike collision with like very little evidence. But that's all I'm really gonna say. But the, the shittiest thing is we got there at 7:30 in the morning or 7:00 clock whenever it was on the third day and the courtroom was empty. The judge was there and the lawyers are there and they're like, they settle out of court and you have no way to know. Like. Right. We literally start deliberating that morning. We hadn't delivered at all. You're not allowed to talk to the whole time. We're literally that morning should start deliberating. And they settled out of court and we're not allowed to know the results.
[00:14:35] Speaker A: Boo.
I was like, come on, you've already gone this far.
[00:14:41] Speaker B: But you got to order sandwiches from like, looks like a little downtown kitchen in the courthouse that makes sandwiches for all the jurors and.
[00:14:47] Speaker A: Oh, nice.
[00:14:48] Speaker B: And the only hot sandwich was the meatball sub. So the two days I got lunch, I got the meatballs.
[00:14:54] Speaker A: You got it. You got to go for a hot Sandwich. Unless.
Unless you're having the. The ham sandwich poolside at a party in the summer, man.
[00:15:05] Speaker B: Ham sandwich poolside?
[00:15:07] Speaker A: Yeah. Have you ever. Did you never go to somebody's house and they just had, like, ham sandwiches next to the pool?
[00:15:12] Speaker B: No.
[00:15:13] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Ham sandwiches and a bowl of chips that everybody was just, like, putting their soggy hands in.
[00:15:19] Speaker B: So they were all just chips? Yeah, chips. Not the chips.
We can just leave sandwiches with mayonnaise laying out in the sun. David.
[00:15:28] Speaker A: I guess we came. I guess. I guess we came from different sides of the tracks, Johnny.
[00:15:31] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
This week is no different. The second issue is king spawn 370. A regular spawn. Spawn 371. And that's the second issue.
[00:15:45] Speaker A: Yeah. Cool.
[00:15:45] Speaker B: That's Respawn. And that's the whole intro.
[00:15:48] Speaker A: That's the whole intro.
Ooh. A breezy 18 minutes.
We're cruising. We're cruising.
[00:15:57] Speaker B: This is what the people want.
[00:15:58] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, it's what I want out of this.
So it doesn't really matter if people care, listening.
Because this is a. This is a bit of self indulgence that we do, Johnny.
[00:16:10] Speaker B: It is.
[00:16:10] Speaker A: It is.
[00:16:11] Speaker B: And first, we're indulging in king spawn 51, which we're already talking. 52. Why don't I keep saying 51?
[00:16:17] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:16:20] Speaker B: It's the new 52.
[00:16:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
It's now owned by DC.
Could you imagine a DC spawn? That would be very weird. I guess. I guess that would basically kind of be Lobo.
[00:16:33] Speaker B: No, Spawn's not that funny.
[00:16:35] Speaker A: Spawn doesn't give a shit about dolphins.
[00:16:37] Speaker B: I'm taking a wild guess from the box office that you didn't see Supergirl in theaters.
[00:16:42] Speaker A: No.
No, because you aren't. You aren't up here to see it with me. But no, I.
[00:16:46] Speaker B: You.
You don't like women.
[00:16:49] Speaker A: I've been. I've been. I just. I just don't know when I'm. The next movie I know for sure I'm gonna see in theaters is Hadestown, because Wanda and I are going to that. And it's only. It's only in theaters for five days, so we gotta go. But the only. The only one that I'm planning on is Godzilla minus zero.
And everything else is just kind of passing me by.
But my sister. My sister loved Supergirl. I got to. I didn't realize, Johnny. I know I'm a nerd, but I never feel more like a nerd than when I'm explaining some fucking comic book shit to my sister.
And I was trying to Explain like the backstory of Lobo to her and she was just like, yeah, uh huh. Yeah, uh huh. Yeah, sure.
Ridiculous.
[00:17:38] Speaker B: He's a wild and crazy guy.
[00:17:39] Speaker A: Yeah. He's the last Xarnian. He killed his entire race, his entire planet.
[00:17:46] Speaker B: Whoa. Yeah.
[00:17:47] Speaker A: And he likes dolphins. If you fuck with dolphins, Lobo's gonna come kick your ass.
Okay.
[00:17:54] Speaker B: Who would fuck with a dolphin? A lot of people.
[00:17:56] Speaker A: A lot of people. A lot of people. There's a. Yeah, because like, there are space dolphins that are basically like space bikers.
And so if anybody on earth is fucking with dolphins, like the. The tuna fishers or. There's a lot of. There's a lot of Aquaman stories in the 90s where some. Some punk teens are fucking with the dolphins and Lobo comes and teaches them what's for.
[00:18:23] Speaker B: Yeah, Free Willy was really popular.
[00:18:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
I mean, fucking SeaWorld is a terrible place.
[00:18:32] Speaker B: I think orcas are technically dolphins, right?
They're not whales.
[00:18:37] Speaker A: I thought they were technically fish.
[00:18:40] Speaker B: Are they?
[00:18:43] Speaker A: I can't remember.
[00:18:44] Speaker B: They're definitely not whale whales.
[00:18:45] Speaker A: They're. No, they. Cuz they have blow holes, so they must be mammals.
So I guess they are. I guess they're closer to dolphins than they are anything else
[00:18:55] Speaker B: because.
[00:18:55] Speaker A: Yeah, they're not. I know they're not true whales. Although I do know that like, they keep just like wearing dead seals for fashion and nobody knows. Yes.
[00:19:03] Speaker B: An orca is a type of dolphin.
[00:19:06] Speaker A: Nice.
So we. They could. They could literally do a new Free Willy and have Lobo in it. And Jason Momoa will have work for eternity.
[00:19:17] Speaker B: So you're not gonna rush the theaters to see the live action Moana. David.
What?
[00:19:25] Speaker A: I can't tell you how many conversations I've had about why Moana was fucking perfect as it was. Why did we need a new version?
[00:19:33] Speaker B: Money. But it's my bomb.
[00:19:35] Speaker A: But it's. It's the rock. The rock has no nipples.
The rock has no.
[00:19:40] Speaker B: That's weird.
[00:19:41] Speaker A: Nipples.
[00:19:41] Speaker B: I read that and I went and looked up pictures. He does it. They edited them out.
[00:19:45] Speaker A: I mean, I wonder if it's an homage to the old. The old Mummy movies where he was the Scorpion King and I don't think he had nipples.
[00:19:52] Speaker B: He probably had nipples. No, he was like half scorpion.
[00:19:55] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, it wasn't. It wasn't a Joel Schumacher film. Johnny. So he didn't have nipples.
[00:20:00] Speaker B: Do you know what the Scorpion King always makes me think of? What is Meghan, when she lived in Virginia, went to a thrift store and she was looking for a certain s movie. I can't remember what, but there were, like, 13 to 15 copies of the Scorpion King on DVD.
[00:20:17] Speaker A: Did she buy 13 to 15 copies of the Scorpion?
[00:20:19] Speaker B: That's what. That's what I hope to get for my 41st birthday, is 13 to 15
[00:20:23] Speaker A: copies for your next 12 birthdays. It's just the copies.
You're gonna be like that guy who has the world's largest collection of Titanic on vhs, where he gets packages from people, and it's just like, 12 new copies of the Titanic on VHS.
[00:20:42] Speaker B: Well, if you. If you could collect one movie on vhs, what would you collect?
[00:20:45] Speaker A: Ooh, on vhs.
[00:20:48] Speaker B: Single movie.
I had no mind. Easily.
[00:20:53] Speaker A: See, it's. It would be. I'm gonna have to go for nostalgia sake. And I would hope it would be unopened copies because they would still have the. The Pizza Hut coupons in there. But I'd have to go Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles one.
[00:21:07] Speaker B: I'm gonna say Jurassic Park.
[00:21:10] Speaker A: I thought you were gonna see Evil Dead 2.
[00:21:12] Speaker B: No, I didn't watch that on VHS.
I watched that in 10th grade. I saw that on DVD.
I remember. I remember I had two friends over, Jacob and Josh.
Jacob King and Josh Spear. And we had, like, heard about Evil Dead. None of us had seen him. Josh seen, like, one of them. And we were, like. We were, like, 16 or 15.
And asked my mom, like, we weren't there. She was like, sure, whatever.
[00:21:37] Speaker A: Yeah, I was.
[00:21:38] Speaker B: They're mainly funny. We, like, put Army Darkness on top. Like, say it's rated R.
They're funny.
[00:21:45] Speaker A: The first one. First was, I was. I think I was 14 when I saw Evil Dead 1 for the first time by myself in the middle of the night. And it scared the piss out of me. And then the second was terrifying. The second I tried to show it to somebody else. Like, they kept pointing out how ridiculous it looked. And I was like, oh, it's not scary anymore. But that first time I watched it.
[00:22:05] Speaker B: That's not true. It doesn't look that ridiculous. It's real. It has a real quality to it.
[00:22:09] Speaker A: It's. But like.
[00:22:11] Speaker B: Like, yeah, it's like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It has this, like, deranged sensibility. It's like, who fucking made this?
[00:22:17] Speaker A: Toby, Hooper, Johnny. Can't you read?
[00:22:19] Speaker B: Who fucking made Evil Dead?
[00:22:21] Speaker A: Sam Raimi. Can't you read?
[00:22:23] Speaker B: I know, but who made Kingspot 52? But first, you have to cover the
[00:22:28] Speaker A: COVID Yes, we do.
[00:22:29] Speaker B: And I have the only cover.
[00:22:35] Speaker A: There's. Yeah, there's.
[00:22:36] Speaker B: There's only one cover.
[00:22:38] Speaker A: Mm.
[00:22:38] Speaker B: That's one cover.
[00:22:39] Speaker A: The COVID I got, too.
[00:22:40] Speaker B: Johnny, who's that artist?
[00:22:42] Speaker A: David, that is Kale New.
[00:22:44] Speaker B: All right.
[00:22:46] Speaker A: It is.
It is King Spawn sitting on his throne. And he's got a big cudgel in one hand and a glowing. A glowing green in the other.
[00:22:57] Speaker B: Looks like Sauron's head.
[00:22:59] Speaker A: Yeah, well, it looks like the. The head of the Mouth of Sauron.
[00:23:03] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:23:03] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:23:04] Speaker B: Ah, yeah.
He's so good. You know who that is? Who? That's. His name is Tony Spence. But he's the Australian actor who was. One year, I think 2003 was the highest grossing actor of the year because he's the trained man in the Matrix 3.
[00:23:19] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:23:20] Speaker B: He's the Mouth of Sauron, or. And he's the. He's the. He's the shark in Finding Nemo, which he was Bruce. Yeah, he's Bruce.
Bruce Spence. He's mainly known. He was the helicopter pilot guy in Mad Max 2.
[00:23:36] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:23:37] Speaker B: And then he was just like. Oh. He's also the guy that tells everyone Kenobi in Episode three is like, White face. He's like a white face. He's like, there are enemies everywhere. He, like, winks at him.
Do you remember him?
[00:23:48] Speaker A: No, I don't see.
[00:23:49] Speaker B: On Medon. You remember Tion Medan?
[00:23:52] Speaker A: Johnny. Johnny Google.
[00:23:53] Speaker B: Tion. T I O N M E D D O N.
You can remember this. He's that guy.
[00:24:01] Speaker A: Oh, okay. I remember that guy, but he was
[00:24:04] Speaker B: the Mouth of Sauron. He was that guy in Star Wars. He was in Fighting Nemo. He was in the Matrix 3.
[00:24:10] Speaker A: I was about to say. I was about to say Johnny. The. The problem is.
[00:24:13] Speaker B: Look up Bruce. It's Bruce Spence.
[00:24:14] Speaker A: Yeah, Bruce. Bruce Spence. The last time I saw. The last time I saw Episode three, it was in four dx.
[00:24:21] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:24:22] Speaker A: I had massive anxiety.
[00:24:24] Speaker B: Well, it's one of the scenes where they were talking, so nothing was moving, so you're probably asleep.
[00:24:31] Speaker A: He's in Children of the Corn. He's in Dark City. Hell, yeah.
Inspector Gadget 2, which is the same year as Matrix 3.
It was in Australia.
Yep. Fighting Nemo.
[00:24:47] Speaker B: He was about the Sauron.
[00:24:49] Speaker A: Nice.
[00:24:51] Speaker B: It was a shame they cut. I mean, the extended editions are pretty much better.
[00:24:54] Speaker A: He was in Ace Ventura. When Nature Calls too.
[00:25:00] Speaker B: I would say the extended editions are the better versions of each movie. Right.
[00:25:03] Speaker A: Of the Lord of the Rings. Oh, I.
[00:25:06] Speaker B: Return of the King. Honestly, I almost prefer the theatrical.
[00:25:09] Speaker A: It's just so long. But yeah, I. I prefer the extended editions of all of them.
[00:25:14] Speaker B: I know, but you. You missed the Mouth of Sauron.
[00:25:16] Speaker A: Yeah, man, I do remember seeing that in the theaters, though, and everybody thought it. The movie ended three times. They're, like, stood up and they're like, oh, wait, there's more movie.
[00:25:25] Speaker B: You know what's crazy, though? The theatrical cut of Two Towers fucking rocks, dude. That's like an action fest. That movie rules. Two Towers is probably my favorite.
[00:25:35] Speaker A: It's good. It's good. They're all good, dude.
[00:25:38] Speaker B: Helm Steve was like. It unlocked me crying at movies.
[00:25:41] Speaker A: Oh, nice.
[00:25:42] Speaker B: Like I didn't cry at movies before.
The helm's deep at the end.
[00:25:46] Speaker A: Don't tell the. Don't tell the elf.
[00:25:49] Speaker B: Not that part. I'm like, gandalf, rise right out with me.
[00:25:53] Speaker A: Yeah, fairness, man.
Lord of the Rings is good.
[00:25:59] Speaker B: So there's one cover. It's Lord of the Rings.
He looks like Sauron. We love Lord of the Rings.
[00:26:05] Speaker A: We love King Spawn, King Sauron.
[00:26:11] Speaker B: They're good.
[00:26:11] Speaker A: Yeah, they're good.
[00:26:14] Speaker B: You gotta love Lord of the Rings.
[00:26:16] Speaker A: Yeah, you do. You know who else?
[00:26:17] Speaker B: Peter Jackson. He needs to make another fucking movie.
He started to make Tintin, too, which I hope he does.
[00:26:25] Speaker A: He needs to make another movie. But somebody needs to whip up the cojones to say, we gotta cut this out. We gotta cut this out. We gotta cut this out.
[00:26:39] Speaker B: On the Hobbit DVDs. It's actually really sad. They show them, like, breaking down, like, during the filming. So they document everything for the DVDs.
Like, he didn't want to split into three movies. He thought it was two. And he, like, had to make up the third movie on the fly. He said it was, like, the worst experience of his life. And he's never made a fiction movie since.
[00:26:57] Speaker A: He needs to make a. He needs to make a Brain Dead two.
Yes.
[00:27:04] Speaker B: I prefer the title Dead Alive, but that's just because how I knew it.
[00:27:07] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:27:09] Speaker B: I mean, Brain Dead's a better title, I guess, but I just know it is Dead Alive.
[00:27:13] Speaker A: I don't even remember which one's the American and which one's the Australian anymore.
[00:27:17] Speaker B: The American is dead Alive.
[00:27:18] Speaker A: Dead Alive. Okay.
[00:27:20] Speaker B: And it's one of the finest films ever made.
[00:27:22] Speaker A: Yeah. It's also one of the most disgusting.
[00:27:26] Speaker B: You ever see Meet the Feebles.
[00:27:27] Speaker A: I have not. That's the puppet one, right?
[00:27:30] Speaker B: You would fucking love it.
[00:27:32] Speaker A: I'm sure I would.
[00:27:33] Speaker B: It's impossible to find. Good luck. I have a copy of it.
[00:27:36] Speaker A: It was on Netflix for a long time, and I just never got around to watching it.
[00:27:43] Speaker B: I have it on DVD. Bitch.
[00:27:45] Speaker A: Who let. Who that? Who let Freddy Krueger in here.
[00:27:50] Speaker B: I bought it for 15 bucks at the vintage stock by 71st and it was in their out of print section. It was $15. Like a used DVD, which is expensive back then.
[00:27:59] Speaker A: Yeah, that's not bad.
[00:28:01] Speaker B: And I bought the fuck out of it.
[00:28:03] Speaker A: So now it has no more fucking.
No, unfortunately.
[00:28:10] Speaker B: Unfortunately.
But what does is this issue? Well, we gotta give. There's only one cover.
[00:28:15] Speaker A: Yeah, there's only one.
[00:28:16] Speaker B: Monumental. This is Monumental.
[00:28:21] Speaker A: Because they want you to focus on who made it and who made it. Johnny.
[00:28:25] Speaker B: We have script plot by Rory McConville with Todd McFarlane with additional script which I couldn't spot.
[00:28:30] Speaker A: Me either.
[00:28:33] Speaker B: Art by Yildir Senar, color by Ivan Nunes, lettering by Tom Orzczykowski.
We already covered the COVID Yes, Singular.
Brave Director is Tom McFarlane and editor in chief is Thomas Keeley.
[00:28:51] Speaker A: Yes, sir.
[00:28:53] Speaker B: Previously in King Spawn.
Spawn encounters a group of hung humans with a demon in their midst.
I almost read it as Hunters.
[00:29:03] Speaker A: Hunters.
I'm trying to remember what happened in the last.
[00:29:08] Speaker B: It was just another. It was another short story.
[00:29:10] Speaker A: Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. It was the dude who got scratched by the demon and turned into one after. After you're exposed to blood. Gotcha.
[00:29:23] Speaker B: That. That old chestnut.
[00:29:27] Speaker A: Same. Same crime family. I do believe we're like dancing around the edges of the Gambino family. Is Gambino. Gambino, yeah. Did I get that name right?
Gambino. Yeah, yeah. We start with Johnny.
Years ago, I got this. This teen talking to a guy named Cesar.
Cesar. I'm at a loss. Help me understand what happened.
And Cesar is giving this little boy and his wife, his mom, the bad guy.
[00:30:03] Speaker B: So why do you think it's Cesar, not Caesar?
[00:30:05] Speaker A: I just like saying Cesar.
[00:30:07] Speaker B: What the fuck
[00:30:10] Speaker A: do you not like?
[00:30:11] Speaker B: What the hell is wrong with you?
Do you say khazar salad?
[00:30:16] Speaker A: Do we have time? Do we have time?
I mean, he's Italian, so it probably is Caesar. Cesar is more the Mexican pronunciation.
[00:30:26] Speaker B: Yeah, dude.
[00:30:27] Speaker A: Yeah, but he's Cesar.
[00:30:30] Speaker B: Caesar.
[00:30:30] Speaker A: Caesar. He's Caesar.
He's a bad man and he's selling well.
[00:30:37] Speaker B: You don't know that yet.
[00:30:39] Speaker A: Look at him. Look at him, Johnny. Look at him.
[00:30:41] Speaker B: That.
That's what I said. He looks like an S. Craig Zollerkin.
[00:30:45] Speaker A: That is the face of a. That is. That is the picture of a man who is not a good person.
[00:30:52] Speaker B: This reminded me of an escrig Zoller joint a little bit.
[00:30:55] Speaker A: A little bit? A little bit.
[00:30:57] Speaker B: But you haven't read his. You haven't read his crime stuff.
[00:31:00] Speaker A: No.
[00:31:00] Speaker B: I have the Slanted Gutter and mean business on 4th Ganson Street.
[00:31:06] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:31:07] Speaker B: They're pretty good.
[00:31:08] Speaker A: Are those also difficult to find?
[00:31:11] Speaker B: They're expensive on Amazon. Yeah, maybe not. I don't know. Let's look it up.
[00:31:17] Speaker A: But it does. It does have. There is. There is that sort of callous, nasty undertone that s. Craig Zoller stories tend to have that little nasty undertone. Oh, Johnny. Apparently there is a cover B.
[00:31:35] Speaker B: So Mean Business on North Gateson street is only available as was in three languages. Oh, nice.
Hardcover or Kindle. And it's 1727 for the book.
[00:31:47] Speaker A: Nice.
Johnny, did you hear me? Apparently there is a B cover and it's just.
[00:31:52] Speaker B: What?
[00:31:53] Speaker A: It's just black and white and green instead of full color. Okay.
[00:31:58] Speaker B: And the slanted gutter is $22.95 for a fucking paperback.
[00:32:03] Speaker A: Jesus.
For used.
No, I'm new. Nice.
[00:32:11] Speaker B: It's a good paperback, though. I bought it. I have a rare edition.
I don't want to get into it.
[00:32:16] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:32:17] Speaker B: I could. I could.
[00:32:19] Speaker A: I mean, that is. It is.
You could. You could get into that or we can get into this spawn.
[00:32:25] Speaker B: Do you want to hear Internet story? A saga I saw unfold? I'm gonna tell you, dude, I think people would be interested in this. Okay, so Dallas Sonny was a producer who worked with Escalar a lot, made all his movies, and he bought and resurrected Fangoria and then he bought and helped birth Movies Death, the old movie website.
And then every, like, some producer guy that he, like, allied with. Like, he basically. He was like, trying to be like a. He was annoying on Twitter and, like, conservative.
I mean, I like a lot of his products, but basically he just, like, got canceled or produced. Got canceled. And he got like. And he just sold everything, went crazy.
Made a movie where they shot a deer on camera because it was like, allowed because it was like a hunting thing.
But, like, I think he still makes movies. But, like, anyway, he and Escal. He was publishing his books. He had books he published as well. And then they, like, honor the pre orders because this was like, the book came out, like, right as this was happening. He, like, stopped publishing things. Like escrow separated himself from him and, like. So I have the edition from that publishing company. It doesn't exist anymore.
[00:33:39] Speaker A: Interesting.
Nice. Very cool. Is it named something a Horribly, horribly sketchy?
[00:33:47] Speaker B: No, it's just this landing gutter.
[00:33:49] Speaker A: Okay, nice.
[00:33:51] Speaker B: But he. The second one is called Author's Preferred Text or one of. Yeah, so I don't know.
[00:33:56] Speaker A: I mean, the original. The original one's A better name.
[00:34:01] Speaker B: No, the original. They're both called.
They're both called the slanted Gutter. But, like, inside it says author's Preferred text. Or like, in parentheses.
[00:34:08] Speaker A: Oh, I thought you were saying author's Preferred text was the name of the. The company.
[00:34:14] Speaker B: No, no, no, no. I don't know what the names of the companies are.
[00:34:17] Speaker A: Interesting.
Authors Preferred Text.
Well, yeah.
[00:34:23] Speaker B: I wonder if the one I have is, like, more expensive.
[00:34:27] Speaker A: I'm sure. Maybe. Probably. Possibly on the secondary market at least. But everything's more expensive on the secondary market, Johnny.
[00:34:36] Speaker B: Nice. Anyway, sorry to completely derail.
[00:34:41] Speaker A: Yes. No, no, you aren't.
If I know anything about you, Johnny, and you love derailing stuff, Tony.
[00:34:50] Speaker B: What the. You do.
[00:34:52] Speaker A: That's why we work so well together.
Or you take two derailleurs and they cancel each other out and the train stays right on the tracks.
I'm going one way, you're going the other way. It was just. Wow.
[00:35:04] Speaker B: Yeah. It's good, though.
[00:35:06] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:35:06] Speaker B: So we got S. Craig Zoller here.
[00:35:08] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:35:08] Speaker B: He's got the world's tightest ponytail.
[00:35:10] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:35:10] Speaker B: And he is talking to this kid who looks like probably, I guess, high school David.
[00:35:15] Speaker A: Look like I. Johnny, I could not grow a goatee in high school.
[00:35:19] Speaker B: Serious? You didn't have a goatee?
[00:35:21] Speaker A: I couldn't. I couldn't grow a bit of facial hair until I was like, 34. 34 was when I was able to actually start growing stuff.
[00:35:32] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:35:32] Speaker A: I didn't have the High school was a little late for the butt cut. I had the butt cut in middle school.
[00:35:39] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:35:39] Speaker A: So this guy would have been way cooler than I was.
[00:35:42] Speaker B: And he is telling him his dad died. And, yeah, he's like, this is crazy guy. He killed your dad. And we try to fight him off,
[00:35:49] Speaker A: but this wild and crazy guy.
[00:35:54] Speaker B: What the.
You want to say King Tut King. That song is good, though.
I bet you love that song when you're a kid.
[00:36:05] Speaker A: I. I don't think I've ever seen the King tutorial sketch.
[00:36:09] Speaker B: You never heard the song?
[00:36:11] Speaker A: No, not in full.
[00:36:13] Speaker B: What? You love that?
[00:36:15] Speaker A: Probably. Probably the. I wasn't. I wasn't as exposed to the Martin. Not Martin. See, the Steve Martin stuff. I almost said Martin Lawrence.
The Steve Martin stuff. As much as my dad talked about how much he liked it. But then we watched other things.
[00:36:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:36:33] Speaker A: Kind of. Kind of weird. Like, he never showed me the jerk. He just talked about the jerk a whole lot. Like he had showed it to me.
[00:36:38] Speaker B: My dad, too, but.
[00:36:40] Speaker A: But it was.
[00:36:41] Speaker B: I couldn't see because it was, like, rated R. He, like, wouldn't let me see it.
[00:36:44] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:36:44] Speaker B: But he referenced Blues Brothers.
[00:36:46] Speaker A: He referenced it a lot in the
[00:36:47] Speaker B: original vacation, which had tits in it. And he let me watch it.
[00:36:50] Speaker A: Hip, hip, hooray for Christmas vacation.
[00:36:53] Speaker B: I'm so glad it's Christmas vacation. But anyway, this guy's dad is dead. He was killed by. We don't know who yet. Some creature thing.
[00:37:01] Speaker A: But. But Caesar says they call him Spawn. Because we got the opening reading there.
[00:37:05] Speaker B: Yeah.
Paul. And then we see Paul now it flashes. That was then. This is now.
[00:37:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:37:13] Speaker B: And Paul's just wandering the streets of New York.
[00:37:17] Speaker A: He has.
[00:37:17] Speaker B: He said he's had a tightness in his chest since the day that Spawn killed his dad.
[00:37:21] Speaker A: Yeah. And his.
It took him. It took him less than a year to lose everything and mess up his life.
[00:37:28] Speaker B: He's probably, what, like, 35 now? I'd say.
[00:37:30] Speaker A: Yeah. I'd say. I'd say at least late twenties.
Because if he's. If he's.
[00:37:35] Speaker B: He's over. He's in his 30s.
[00:37:36] Speaker A: If he's.
[00:37:37] Speaker B: If he's.
[00:37:37] Speaker A: If he's lived his life as hard as he's saying he has, you know, that. That ages you a bit. So
[00:37:45] Speaker B: maybe. But he said.
But I guess, 30s, when his dad dies, when he started using, it took less than a year to destroy his life.
[00:37:55] Speaker A: Pissed away his scholarship along with everything else.
[00:37:59] Speaker B: And he walks into a bar. His bar that he works at.
[00:38:02] Speaker A: Yeah.
That's owned.
[00:38:04] Speaker B: There.
[00:38:04] Speaker A: It is. That's owned by the mob, basically.
[00:38:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
There's little hints because Caesar looks like a mobster.
[00:38:11] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:38:11] Speaker B: He says, vinnie couldn't help your dad. Like Vinny.
[00:38:14] Speaker A: Yeah.
We love that. It's the Gambino family of the.
Spawn's been with the Gambino family.
[00:38:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:24] Speaker A: King Spawn for the last couple of times. But. But. So Paul walks into the bar, and there's this.
This one man hanging from the ceiling. Johnny.
[00:38:34] Speaker B: It's an emaciated Spawn. He looks like a husk. He looks like Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen.
[00:38:41] Speaker A: He's not that skinny.
What? He said he's not that skinny.
They're just straight up skeletons.
[00:38:52] Speaker B: Yeah. With charcoal on him.
[00:38:55] Speaker A: They burnt skellingtons.
Yeah. So Spawn is just hanging from the ceiling,
[00:39:02] Speaker B: but he looks emaciated.
[00:39:04] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, he does. He does.
And Caesar's just like, yep, we finally got him.
[00:39:14] Speaker B: Is he dead? He's like. We found him a.
Found him on the street a few hours ago.
[00:39:20] Speaker A: Never thought we'd see the day where we were finally rid of that piece of.
And then Caesar's like, hey, hey, kid. This is a. This is a. This is a good day. This is a good day. This man killed your pops. And, you know, we're gonna have a celebration, and we're going to auction this off.
[00:39:37] Speaker B: Yeah, dude.
[00:39:38] Speaker A: Probably. People will pay money for anything.
[00:39:40] Speaker B: It's so funny to me that someone can bash a dude's head in from behind later in the comic, but they can't show you the word without a scene star.
[00:39:48] Speaker A: Yeah, that's ridiculous.
[00:39:50] Speaker B: That's insane.
[00:39:51] Speaker A: But so.
So obviously, obviously Paul is on the bandwagon after, you know, getting clean. And so he's. Cuz.
[00:40:02] Speaker B: Cuz I just want to come back to this. David, he's def. Look at that panel. He's like 35, dude. Okay, tell him he's in his 20s.
[00:40:07] Speaker A: Yeah, okay, fine. He's. He's.
[00:40:08] Speaker B: Look me in the face.
[00:40:10] Speaker A: Look, he's in his 30s.
[00:40:11] Speaker B: Yeah, okay, good.
[00:40:12] Speaker A: But so. So Caesar. Caesar's like, come on, we're gonna have a party. We're gonna have some drinks tonight. Well, maybe you have one of your.
Oh, it's nice to. It's nice that the. They're taking his, you know, substance abuse.
[00:40:26] Speaker B: It's a nice little. Well, it's a nice little hint of the story. Like, he's sober now.
[00:40:29] Speaker A: Yeah. But then he's also still a bartender.
They got him slinking drinks in the bar.
[00:40:35] Speaker B: Dude, I've known. So I worked with so many bartenders in Chicago. That's all you know how to do.
If you're making like 600 bucks a night doing that, and you gotta get sober, like, that's probably a tough journey.
[00:40:45] Speaker A: Yeah, it's gotta be Pulse. Pulse.
Sober bartenders, they're not. They're not stealing. They're not stealing the. They're not stealing from the bottles in the back.
[00:40:58] Speaker B: No, not at all. John Taffer would love them.
[00:41:01] Speaker A: Yeah.
So the. The party starts picking up. You know, they're cheersons going around, you
[00:41:09] Speaker B: know, today, dancing around a dead spawn.
[00:41:11] Speaker A: Yeah. Just. Could you imagine going to a party at a bar with a fucking corpse hanging from the ceiling?
[00:41:19] Speaker B: A superhero corpse.
[00:41:20] Speaker A: A superhero corpse.
We learned that Paul.
[00:41:25] Speaker B: See, that's what reminded me of S. Craig Zoller. It's, like, just really grim and, like, gross.
[00:41:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
We learned that Paul is also unlucky in love.
He just broke up with a girl.
Oh, sad.
[00:41:38] Speaker B: Yeah, but he got a new one.
No, he didn't.
[00:41:42] Speaker A: No, he just. He just broke up with one.
[00:41:44] Speaker B: Oh, I was just dreaming.
[00:41:46] Speaker A: He's probably He's, I mean, at the, the end of the issue makes me think that maybe he's gonna get another one. Johnny.
[00:41:54] Speaker B: But everyone's partying. They don't realize. Yeah, there's all these bugs, these creepy crawlies.
Creepy crawlers.
[00:42:02] Speaker A: Creepy crawling, creepy.
[00:42:06] Speaker B: What's that from?
[00:42:07] Speaker A: Boris the Spider. The who song.
[00:42:09] Speaker B: Okay, the who song. Yeah, I was doing the creepy crawlers commercial.
Creepy crawlers. It was like a AC Bake oven for boys.
[00:42:19] Speaker A: Oh yeah.
Cuz it was, it was the same, the same form factor. It was just like gray and green. Right.
[00:42:26] Speaker B: But it wasn't food. It was just like worms you like hid in your sister's hat or something.
[00:42:32] Speaker A: Oh, the Easy bake oven. The 100, the 100 watt light bulb. What burn.
[00:42:37] Speaker B: They did have, they did have in the 90s, the Dr. Dro from Food Lab, which was the gross Frankenstein horror. You make candy. And I had.
[00:42:44] Speaker A: Boys were only allowed to cook food if it was gross.
[00:42:47] Speaker B: Right. And then, and then we ran out of all the little packets of stuff of mix and we showed my mom the thing in the instruction. You had to order it through the mail. And she's like, I'm not doing that.
You never do use it again.
[00:43:00] Speaker A: Just fun while it lasted.
I was. That's like, that's like the light bright where they tried to get you to buy the things to put back on it. And I was like, nah, just fucking use construction paper.
[00:43:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
Nightbreak was a cool toy.
[00:43:14] Speaker A: Nightbreak's a fun toy. It's an all timer.
Gets the creative juices flowing.
[00:43:21] Speaker B: Are the colors in the background or is the bulb you put in?
[00:43:24] Speaker A: It's the little, the little spiky things that you put in have different colors. And so depending on which color things the light comes through them.
Yeah.
And so yeah, after these.
[00:43:39] Speaker B: What would you say if you had named like 90s, like what is your favorite like 90s toy? A singular toy?
[00:43:50] Speaker A: Like an like actual toy or like type of toy? Like one specific.
[00:43:56] Speaker B: Specific toy.
[00:43:57] Speaker A: One singular toy.
[00:43:58] Speaker B: My favorite toy.
[00:43:59] Speaker A: My favorite.
There's a theme, Johnny.
Oh. Or the Ninja Turtles.
It's either the Mutating Ninja Turtles that go from the tiny little Turtles.
[00:44:14] Speaker B: Yes, those are amazing.
[00:44:15] Speaker A: Or my cousins had a lot of Batman toys and they had the, the ice Batman that was like blue and white and I loved that Batman. So it had to be one of those two.
[00:44:27] Speaker B: I would say the 1990s, either Jurassic park compound playset because my brother and I got that for Christmas one year. Or the. Actually no, it's the T. Rex. It's the 1993 Jurassic Park. Real feel, skin, full size, T. Rex. Nice thing. Was amazing.
[00:44:46] Speaker A: Hell, yeah.
Or Nerf guns. Just in general. Nerf guns were a good.
[00:44:52] Speaker B: Yeah, they're okay. I don't lose the darts.
Yeah, that or. I mean, I like the Technodrome. A lot of the Millennium Falcon, but it was a reissue. That's a cheat. Because it's a reissue of the exact same mold as the 70s.
[00:45:04] Speaker A: Yeah. How dare you cheat, Johnny. How dare you not have been born in the 70s?
[00:45:08] Speaker B: But I love that Millennium Falcon. Yeah, it was like the size of, like, a dinner. Like a platter.
[00:45:14] Speaker A: Yeah, you could probably.
How many times did you eat dinner off of it?
[00:45:19] Speaker B: All the time.
[00:45:20] Speaker A: Nice.
[00:45:21] Speaker B: I would go out in the park. I set up my Falcon.
I did use the landing gears. Had, like, these tabs that popped out that kept them up in the back. I used them so much, I had to prop. They wore out. So I had to prop Lego pieces behind them to make them work.
[00:45:35] Speaker A: Nice.
That's. That's a lot, Johnny. That's like. That's like when you break the little footy things off your keyboard. You got to put, like, binder clip pieces in there.
Office hack for you.
[00:45:49] Speaker B: Office hack.
[00:45:50] Speaker A: But anyway, so after the bugs, all
[00:45:52] Speaker B: these creepy crawlers are coming after Spawn. Because, as we know, one way can spawn, can regenerate energy, is by absorbing and eating the creatures of the night.
[00:46:03] Speaker A: Yeah, the. The creatures that live outside of God's light give him power.
[00:46:08] Speaker B: It's like rats and bugs. Basically 90s.
[00:46:11] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Bugs, earthworms, you know.
[00:46:14] Speaker B: Oh. Oh, my God. If Spawn's about to die, if he gets some gak, he'd be like, thank you, and drink it. He'd be, like, superpowered. I'm serious.
[00:46:23] Speaker A: It's the right color.
[00:46:25] Speaker B: Yeah, it's green.
I had some orange gak. That thought was really cool. I did have some gag gak.
[00:46:31] Speaker A: Was a gak was a great toy.
[00:46:33] Speaker B: I just remember they, like, solid it. That's the thing. Like, it was a kid.
[00:46:37] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:46:37] Speaker B: There's a Internet. I just saw it at Target. Like, yo, they're selling Nickelodeon slime now.
[00:46:41] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:46:42] Speaker B: Crazy.
Like, I gotta get that.
[00:46:44] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:46:44] Speaker B: Probably so annoying for the parents.
[00:46:46] Speaker A: Yeah, well, because, I mean, the thing. You made fart noise with it.
[00:46:50] Speaker B: I never liked that part.
[00:46:51] Speaker A: Oh, really? That was one of my favorite parts. I love making.
[00:46:53] Speaker B: Of course it was.
[00:46:56] Speaker A: Farts are funny. The Bog of Eternal Stench is, like, the number one.
It is the argument in my marriage, Stephen.
[00:47:06] Speaker B: Never ending story. Or what's that from?
[00:47:07] Speaker A: Labyrinth. We will. We will never agree because the log of Eternal Stench is the funniest thing in the world. And Wanda is just like, can we please.
Can we please stop? But the fact that when they walk over the stones at the end and every time they step on a stone, it farts.
Masterful.
Masterful.
[00:47:29] Speaker B: I agree. I feel like I'm in more Wanda's camp on Labyrinth. It's not my favorite.
[00:47:32] Speaker A: Look at the.
[00:47:33] Speaker B: Look at the.
[00:47:40] Speaker A: Oh, okay, well.
[00:47:41] Speaker B: So, David, here's what I'll say about Labyrinth. David. I was a nerd. I probably saw it in middle school, and I was like, man, this movie's for nerds.
[00:47:49] Speaker A: Well, hey, Wanda. Wanda loves Labyrinth. She just doesn't like the Bog of Eternal Stage.
[00:47:55] Speaker B: My brother liked it more than I did. But Secret. My brother is a bigger nerd than I am.
[00:48:00] Speaker A: There you go. There you go.
[00:48:03] Speaker B: Anyway.
[00:48:03] Speaker A: But, yeah.
[00:48:04] Speaker B: So all the creepy crawlies are getting sucked up by Spawn. And all of a sudden, this one guy.
[00:48:08] Speaker A: Well, but. But while the creepy collars are showing up, Paul's just like, man, I thought I would feel better about this. Why do I still just feel so bad?
[00:48:16] Speaker B: I feel empty. I feel that tightness.
[00:48:18] Speaker A: Like, he's like, I always wanted to be the one who killed Spawn out of revenge, and now I don't even get to think about that.
But, yeah, now Johnny Rodney starts freaking out. Yeah. Everybody's like, who gave what to Rodney?
[00:48:36] Speaker B: Yeah. What? Oh, what's he on this time?
[00:48:39] Speaker A: That guy's. That guy is a loose cannon.
[00:48:41] Speaker B: And then he literally pulls out his gun and starts shooting people in the fucking head.
[00:48:44] Speaker A: Yeah. He's back.
[00:48:45] Speaker B: Back.
[00:48:45] Speaker A: All of you. Who the fuck are you? And then we turn the page, and we get to see what he sees. And it is.
[00:48:51] Speaker B: Is.
[00:48:51] Speaker A: It is just like, night Zombies dead here.
[00:48:54] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, David. Oh, David.
Do you want to do it now? You gave me a perfect segue.
[00:49:01] Speaker A: Yeah, segue away.
[00:49:03] Speaker B: Guess what I just got in the mail, baby.
[00:49:07] Speaker A: Something. George A. Romero. Oh, nice.
[00:49:10] Speaker B: Living dead 4k.
[00:49:11] Speaker A: Nice. You paid money for that? But they didn't even. They didn't even copyright it, so it's free.
[00:49:17] Speaker B: This Criterion Collection.
[00:49:20] Speaker A: Nice. That's beautiful.
[00:49:22] Speaker B: I went a little crazy on Prime Day.
[00:49:25] Speaker A: That's fine. You gotta do it. You gotta.
[00:49:26] Speaker B: You want me. You want me to go through them all real quick?
[00:49:28] Speaker A: Yeah, sure. I would love to see what you got. Are they all 4Ks?
[00:49:32] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:49:32] Speaker A: Okay.
Not a Living Dead. That's a. That's a beautiful looking box, I must say.
[00:49:38] Speaker B: The Matrix 4 film collection.
[00:49:40] Speaker A: Ooh.
It's it. What's the.
[00:49:43] Speaker B: What's the fourth resurrection? Someone that came out during the pandemic on HBO. Max.
It was made by one of. One of the Wachowski.
[00:49:50] Speaker A: I totally forgot that even happened. Holy crap.
[00:49:53] Speaker B: I think Lana made it.
I got David Lynch's Blue Velvet.
[00:50:01] Speaker A: That's a beautiful one. Pabst Blue Ribbon.
[00:50:04] Speaker B: I got this movie. It's the only movie I got that haven't seen. But it was only $12.
[00:50:08] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:50:09] Speaker B: Weapons.
[00:50:10] Speaker A: Oh, nice. It's a good movie.
[00:50:11] Speaker B: I haven't seen it.
[00:50:12] Speaker A: It is. It is one that is.
The hype around it kind of ruins your viewing experience a little bit. But it's a good movie.
Anybody who didn't like it, I mean, that's fine. That's their opinion. They're allowed. But it's. It's a good movie.
[00:50:30] Speaker B: And here's the movie. The next movie I got is Criterion Collection. I famously named. Is my favorite movie. Everyone knows of 2021. It was my favorite movie. 2021.
No, you don't.
[00:50:46] Speaker A: I don't. Okay.
[00:50:46] Speaker B: This game of Del Toro's Nightmare.
[00:50:48] Speaker A: Oh, nice.
That I thought was gonna have a lot more mystical aliens and goddamn.
[00:50:56] Speaker B: But I like it.
[00:50:58] Speaker A: Yeah, I like it.
[00:50:59] Speaker B: Didn't.
[00:51:00] Speaker A: That's Bradley. Bradley Cooper. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:51:03] Speaker B: And Rudamara. It's a great movie.
[00:51:05] Speaker A: Good movie.
[00:51:05] Speaker B: My faves. Then I got an anime. David. Oh, my favorite director. Eloy got me into him.
[00:51:15] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:51:15] Speaker B: I got the Perfect Blue Steel book.
[00:51:18] Speaker A: Nice.
[00:51:18] Speaker B: Shytoshi Khan. This movie's really up. It's one of the best movies I've ever seen.
[00:51:22] Speaker A: Nice.
[00:51:23] Speaker B: Then I got it keeps going. David.
[00:51:26] Speaker A: No. Dang.
[00:51:28] Speaker B: Mulholland Drive.
[00:51:29] Speaker A: Oh, that's a good one too.
[00:51:33] Speaker B: 7.
[00:51:34] Speaker A: Ooh, what's in the box?
[00:51:37] Speaker B: And then I got one battle after another.
[00:51:39] Speaker A: Oh, nice, nice.
[00:51:42] Speaker B: And that's it.
[00:51:43] Speaker A: Oh, nice. Wonderful. Man. Mulholland Drive is a good movie.
[00:51:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:51:48] Speaker A: Like the fact that. The fact that it started as a pilot for a television series and then they were like, well, fuck, this has got to become a movie now. And it's just such a good movie.
[00:51:57] Speaker B: Yeah. So I've heard.
My friend Steve in Chicago told me that Twin Peaks the Return is one like, the best. It's like a book. It's like one of the best movies or like pieces of media ever made.
The Return. And I haven't watched it, so I need to watch it. I've had multiple. I've heard that from multiple people. Like, it's one of the best things I ever made.
[00:52:17] Speaker A: I'm a third of the way through it.
[00:52:20] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:52:22] Speaker A: It's.
It's good.
What I've seen so far is good, though.
But I just. I love Twin Peaks, Johnny. It's good.
[00:52:32] Speaker B: Blue Velvet.
I don't want Heineken, God damn it. I want pass Blue ribbon.
One time, I was riding bikes with Tom in Chicago, and we saw pass moving truck delivering. We were to stop sign, and he yelled it at the truck. He didn't realize. Realized the guy was in the truck with it open. He walked out and gave us a look, like, what the. He was like, oh, it's from a movie.
[00:52:58] Speaker A: I'm sorry.
[00:52:58] Speaker B: I'm sorry. Then we rode away our bikes.
[00:53:04] Speaker A: That's ridiculous. That's ridiculous. Yelling at. Yelling at people, delivering. Come on, Tommy.
[00:53:09] Speaker B: He didn't know. He didn't know.
[00:53:12] Speaker A: Yeah. So, like, Ronnie starts shooting, Rodney starts shooting everybody. And Paul's just behind the bar being like. Like lost in his own little, little universe while this is happening. And he's like, you know, if it had been anybody other than Caesar, he probably would have tried to recruit me into the. Into the. Into the gang. But. But he didn't. You know, I appreciate. I appreciate that from him because he knows. He knows I didn't have the stomach for it. And that always disappointed my dad. And there Johnny is. Like, the crux of the issue is that Paul never had the stomach to. To. To lead the. To lead the family.
Right? And Caesar knew that.
[00:53:55] Speaker B: Whatever.
[00:53:56] Speaker A: He zeroed in on a weakness.
[00:53:58] Speaker B: You're cutting the tension of the moment. You're Tom McFarland and you're.
[00:54:01] Speaker A: But, yeah, so. So this. This big old beefy dude picks up. No.
[00:54:05] Speaker B: Caesar's like, yo, I've heard Spawn's curse. Maybe he's got something to do with Rodney going crazy. No. No way.
[00:54:10] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:54:11] Speaker B: They look. He's like that guy. They point behind him, and he's gone.
[00:54:14] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:54:15] Speaker B: Swan's not hanging from the ceiling no more.
[00:54:17] Speaker A: No.
Where did it go? And then. And then he, like, shows up right behind this guy's face, like, coming out of the shadows.
He chomps on, just, like, bites him like a vampire.
[00:54:29] Speaker B: He looks almost like nightmare swan.
[00:54:31] Speaker A: Yeah, he does.
[00:54:31] Speaker B: Or like a plague swan, everyone's favorite character.
[00:54:37] Speaker A: And then there's just a great couple of pages here of just some absolute carnage, some chain action. This dude just, like, this dude's head getting just, like, chopped in twain by the chains and blood and viscera and gore everywhere. And Paul's just still cowering behind the bar.
And then. And then we get on Caesar. Caesar's on the ground and he's. He's. He's huffing and puffing.
[00:55:07] Speaker B: Johnny.
[00:55:09] Speaker A: And Spawn is just, like, standing over him.
[00:55:12] Speaker B: Like, he looks like a slender man.
[00:55:15] Speaker A: Yeah, he's standing kind of like Sally the rag doll.
[00:55:20] Speaker B: Who's Sally?
[00:55:20] Speaker A: Sally the Ragdoll from Nightmare Before Christmas.
[00:55:23] Speaker B: No one calls her Sally the rag Doll. She's just Sally Sally.
[00:55:27] Speaker A: But she's the. She's a rag doll.
[00:55:29] Speaker B: She's not a rag doll.
[00:55:30] Speaker A: Yeah, she is.
[00:55:31] Speaker B: She's a homoculus, but she's.
[00:55:33] Speaker A: She's a wreck. She's. Oh, she's stuffed with rare.
[00:55:36] Speaker B: No, she stuff with leaves, David. She stuff with leaves. She's a scarecrow. She's more scarecrow. I would have never. I've never heard anyone call her Sally the rag Doll. Like, that's her title. Like, all caps is. I don't think she's a rag doll.
She's a human being.
[00:55:54] Speaker A: Let's look at that.
[00:55:55] Speaker B: Made by Dr. Finkelstein.
[00:55:58] Speaker A: Let's look at the nightmare before Before Christmas wiki. Yeah, she is a rag doll from Halloween town.
[00:56:04] Speaker B: Okay, well. Okay, well.
Me
[00:56:11] Speaker A: age possibly early.
[00:56:13] Speaker B: You said you. Hey, I'm just. The only thing I'm objecting to, David. Sally the Rag Doll. As if you said Sheriff Woody, like. Like other people would ever call her Sally the rag. It's just Sally from.
[00:56:25] Speaker A: Sally. Yeah.
[00:56:26] Speaker B: Sally Jack. Sally. It's a love story, David.
[00:56:30] Speaker A: She's her own person, Johnny.
[00:56:32] Speaker B: I know, but she can love Jack, too.
[00:56:35] Speaker A: She is not a possession.
[00:56:36] Speaker B: What are you, my fucking therapist?
I know she's not a possession, but what if someone really cool likes her a lot?
[00:56:45] Speaker A: Well, that's fine. Somebody really cool can like her.
[00:56:47] Speaker B: Doesn't define her.
[00:56:48] Speaker A: Oh, Johnny, apparently you have to come up to Chicago.
[00:56:51] Speaker B: Why?
[00:56:52] Speaker A: Because It's.
Yeah, it's one of the 11 cities.
[00:56:56] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know if I'd be allowed to talk about it.
I mean, I'd love to.
[00:57:03] Speaker A: Who's stopping you? Who's stopping you? Not me.
[00:57:05] Speaker B: You.
You're like, he's evil.
[00:57:11] Speaker A: I'm not gonna let you talk about the things you like because of some things, but I'm gonna keep talking about one specific movie with one specific, specific, problematic person at its center.
[00:57:21] Speaker B: Who?
[00:57:22] Speaker A: Labyrinth and David Bowie.
[00:57:24] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. But no, he's forgiven.
He, like, died, Dude. He died in January or February 2016. He dodged that. Me, too.
By a bullet.
Not a bad. I'm not saying, like, sp.
[00:57:40] Speaker A: Spun.
[00:57:41] Speaker B: It's just. It's just weird how society is. Like, if that came out against like anyone else, it would be a huge deal or if it came out the right time. Yeah, but David Bowie had sex with a kid. It's, like, well documented and magazines celebrated it because there's, like, a groupie magazine.
[00:57:56] Speaker A: Honestly, it's very difficult.
[00:57:58] Speaker B: All of Led Zeppelin should be arrested.
[00:58:00] Speaker A: Every. Everybody who was a rock star from the 60s to about the 2010s should probably be arrested because it was very popular to lie about your age to have sex with the rock star.
That was a thing.
[00:58:14] Speaker B: So you're blaming the women?
[00:58:15] Speaker A: No, no, I'm. I'm saying. I'm saying they should all be arrested.
[00:58:20] Speaker B: All the women and the women and the men.
[00:58:23] Speaker A: Everybody. Just lock everybody up.
[00:58:27] Speaker B: You said a little Spanish right now.
[00:58:29] Speaker A: Yeah. But you steamrolled it over my segue, Johnny, that. That Spawn didn't dodge these bullets. They go right through his head.
Paul shoots him right in the head.
Twice.
[00:58:41] Speaker B: Nothing.
[00:58:44] Speaker A: And Spawn's like, you're defending him after what he did to you, to your father?
Paul's like, huh?
And. And Caesar's like, don't listen to him.
Blow his head off.
[00:58:56] Speaker B: He's like, I killed a lot of people, but your dad was one of them.
[00:59:00] Speaker A: He's like, I don't. I don't. I don't leave survivors. How did.
[00:59:03] Speaker B: At. It's like, ask. Ask. You ask old Caesar why he didn't show you his body.
[00:59:08] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:59:09] Speaker B: Caesar wanted power from self, your dad. So Caesar, when he was a kid, at the beginning of the issue, when he was telling 90s David with a goatee because David couldn't grow one, that his dad was dead. And Spawn killed him.
He killed him. Caesar killed him for power in the mob.
[00:59:27] Speaker A: Yeah. Because he knew. He knew that. He knew that. He knew that Paul was just like, let him.
Paul wasn't gonna fight back. Paul wasn't gonna try to assert his place in the family.
[00:59:35] Speaker B: Paul checked out Labyrinth from the library. Yeah.
[00:59:38] Speaker A: Along with the Brave Little Toaster.
[00:59:41] Speaker B: And maybe a copy of the.
The Mouse on the Motorcycle.
[00:59:45] Speaker A: Mouse on the Motorcycle and Run Away Ralph. The second one, what's with the.
[00:59:48] Speaker B: And the Indian in the Cupboard. Was that at the post office?
Can I say that?
Am I allowed to say the title of that movie?
[00:59:57] Speaker A: I think. I mean, it was the name of a book first.
We watched that one in school more than. I got it from the library.
[01:00:04] Speaker B: It was good. You directed that? Who, Yoda? Frank Oz.
[01:00:08] Speaker A: Oh, really? Yeah.
[01:00:10] Speaker B: And he said in Britain, like the book, because he thought that was important.
And they tried to pressure him to make it American, but He's like, no one's set in Britain. No, it was set in America. Fuck, I'm wrong.
[01:00:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
It's a little. It's a little less weird, it being in Britain, I think. I think it makes it a little. A little more awkward, it being set in America. But. Yeah. So anyway, Paul has this, like.
Like, he has a think, and then he gets the. He gets the angry face, and he goes over and punches. Punches Caesar and punches him. Punches him and smashes his head.
And he finally gets revenge on his dad's killer because it's Caesar. Yeah.
[01:00:58] Speaker B: He smashed his head on the floor.
[01:00:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:01:00] Speaker B: You can't say yeah.
[01:01:03] Speaker A: And then
[01:01:05] Speaker B: when he woke up, he just blacked out. He murdered Caesar, his father figure who killed his father.
[01:01:11] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:01:11] Speaker B: And he blamed it on Spawn. He murdered his ass by. By bashing his head into the floor.
[01:01:16] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:01:17] Speaker B: And then when he came to, Spawn was gone.
[01:01:21] Speaker A: And then he. He burns the bar, sets it on fire. And he says he realizes for the first time in a decade, the tightness in his chest is gone.
He's free.
[01:01:34] Speaker B: Awesome story.
[01:01:35] Speaker A: He's just.
[01:01:36] Speaker B: King Spawn. Skull crown to end.
Whatever Crown. There's a skull on it, too.
[01:01:42] Speaker A: There's a skull on it. Yeah, but it's like.
[01:01:44] Speaker B: It's like, oh, my God.
[01:01:45] Speaker A: It's like the jewelry in the crowd. It's not the crown itself, but. No. Yeah. And just.
It's wonderful.
It's great.
[01:01:57] Speaker B: It's a great short story. It reminds me of Twilight Zone or Star Trek, the original series. Like, that's another one that reminds me of, like, little short stories.
[01:02:05] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:02:06] Speaker B: Like, problems. Like, little problems.
[01:02:08] Speaker A: Yeah. It's real good.
It's real nice.
[01:02:12] Speaker B: Like, how do you take this, like, Star Trek and, like, Twilight Zone? Like, how do you take this setting concept and stretch that story to its limits? Yeah, and that's what I love about episodic things like that. Because like. Like you said, like, Dashiell Hammett or.
Because things like you couldn't get everything before now. Like, everything's continuity, but before then, it's like you want to be able to come in and have, like, maybe kind of heard of this guy or maybe you saw one from a friend.
And I get it.
[01:02:39] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:02:39] Speaker B: This is a perfect intro to Spawn.
[01:02:42] Speaker A: Yeah. It's. It's something that we don't get a lot anymore because there's not.
Everything is available all the time, like you said. But there's also not, like, you know, you have to have enough to fill the time. So we don't have 24 episodes of a television show for a season that runs for 13 years.
[01:03:03] Speaker B: Well, what's crazy is Spawn has an opportunity to be like that. Todd McFarlane writes and creates so much of it.
[01:03:08] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:03:08] Speaker B: But as we'll see next in mainline Spawn, he's like stuck in a gear where it's like, for like almost coming up on a decade now. It was like everyone just found out superheroes exist.
[01:03:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:03:17] Speaker B: He's like, just stuck in that gear on a car.
[01:03:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:03:20] Speaker B: And can't figure out how to like, significantly move the four story forward from that. Because they found out about three times
[01:03:24] Speaker A: now since we've started cover.
Need more Sponge Universe, Johnny.
[01:03:33] Speaker B: Yes.
[01:03:33] Speaker A: The don't miss these ongoing titles because that's the next advertisement.
[01:03:36] Speaker B: I won't.
[01:03:37] Speaker A: Yeah. Look at this.
[01:03:38] Speaker B: We've covered most of them. Yeah, well, server 372.
[01:03:41] Speaker A: We've only covered one of them, Johnny, because we haven't covered Gunslinger.
[01:03:44] Speaker B: All right. We covered least of them.
[01:03:51] Speaker A: Call of Duty Spawn toy advertisement Looks good.
[01:03:54] Speaker B: Looking good.
[01:03:55] Speaker A: So the Witchblade ad again, then the McFarland sports picks with the Hockey Gag guys.
That is
[01:04:06] Speaker B: with the Hockey guys.
[01:04:07] Speaker A: With the hockey guys. Because I know exactly who they are.
The only hockey player I know is sh.
Give your balls a time.
[01:04:17] Speaker B: You know what's fun about like, you know, being, you know, you know, this, like, you live in Oklahoma, you live in Chicago.
Having, like, connections in multiple cities is like, when you're bored, you flip the sports channels, be like, oh, there's Oklahoma team. There's a Chicago team, you know, and like, watch the game.
[01:04:34] Speaker A: Or. Or I have, like, when I watch MLB tv, like, usually the only games that I have the ability to sit down and watch are the. The night west coast games. So I just like, watch a lot of Padres baseball.
[01:04:49] Speaker B: There you go.
[01:04:51] Speaker A: They're not going to fucking let me watch the local games because it's fucking
[01:04:55] Speaker B: a racket I got into. I watched like two or three, like college softball games.
[01:05:01] Speaker A: Oh, nice.
[01:05:01] Speaker B: Women's softball. It was good.
[01:05:03] Speaker A: Yeah. Suppose. Suppose softball is competitive. That is insane.
[01:05:11] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, that Swan. That King Spawn was insane.
And now we go to the other side of the same coin.
[01:05:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:05:22] Speaker B: And go deeper into Spawn's universe after this brief break.
[01:05:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:05:46] Speaker B: All right, next up, up, we have King.
Not King.
[01:05:51] Speaker A: Not King. Just regular spawn.
[01:05:53] Speaker B: Regular spawn.
[01:05:55] Speaker A: 371.
[01:05:57] Speaker B: 371.
That's why I think I was saying 51. Because there's 371 and 52.
[01:06:02] Speaker A: Quite possibly.
Quite possibly. Good, sir.
And so we gotta start where we always Start, Johnny. I almost called you Gandhi.
What?
Fuck that guy.
[01:06:14] Speaker B: Wait, don't, don't. I thought he was canceled.
[01:06:17] Speaker A: Where we always start, Johnny, with the covers with Gandhi.
Could you imagine. Could you imagine Gandhi reading a spawn?
[01:06:26] Speaker B: He'd love it.
[01:06:28] Speaker A: I bet.
Who played. Who played Trevor?
[01:06:32] Speaker B: Ben Kingsley.
[01:06:33] Speaker A: Ben Kingsley. I bet Ben Kingsley.
[01:06:34] Speaker B: He played Gandhi.
[01:06:35] Speaker A: I bet Ben Kingsley would enjoy a spawn.
[01:06:38] Speaker B: It's like full crazy brown face.
[01:06:41] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:06:42] Speaker B: Directed by. Directed by John Hammond. It was directed by Richard Attenborough.
[01:06:47] Speaker A: Damn.
Again with the Freddy. So, Johnny, what cover you got? What cover you got for the spot? 371.
[01:06:56] Speaker B: All of them.
[01:06:57] Speaker A: All of them. You got the digital version?
[01:06:59] Speaker B: Correct.
[01:07:00] Speaker A: Nice. I've got. I got the COVID B. I got the Raymond. The Raymond Gay cover.
[01:07:04] Speaker B: It's pretty. It's. It's pretty awesome.
[01:07:07] Speaker A: It's Spawn in front of a castle with a machine gun in one hand and a glow coming out of his other hand.
It's pretty great.
[01:07:16] Speaker B: The A cover is pretty good too.
[01:07:17] Speaker A: Yeah, that Francesco Matina, Swansea can cover. Yeah.
He's getting shot at and I do appreciate that. Francesco Matina, when showing a bullet flying through the air, shows just the bullet and not the bullet with the casing.
[01:07:34] Speaker B: There you go. He heard. He's my listener, like.
[01:07:38] Speaker A: Like some people do.
[01:07:40] Speaker B: He was like, I cannot disappoint David
[01:07:45] Speaker A: if I. Like. I literally remember having a lecture where I was being told what was a bullet? What was around the difference between a magazine and a clip. And I will never, ever forget them or forgive anybody for making the same mistake.
I had a strange childhood.
[01:08:03] Speaker B: Johnny, you wrote a hard bargain.
[01:08:06] Speaker A: Did I ever tell you about that Christmas that my dad got my sister and I overstock Soviet.22s, and the whole day was spent just cleaning the grease that they were packed in off of them.
[01:08:19] Speaker B: No, you never told me that.
[01:08:21] Speaker A: I can't. I can't tell if you're being facetious or not.
[01:08:24] Speaker B: No, you haven't. You have.
[01:08:26] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. We got.22s for Christmas one year because he got them cheap because they were from the. The Like a Soviet. A Soviet stockpile.
And they were just like. Like they just took them and shoved them in like a vat of. Of grease. And so we just spent the whole day degreasing them. Very exciting guns.
[01:08:44] Speaker B: You gotta clean your gun.
[01:08:45] Speaker A: You gotta. You gotta keep them clean. This is my rifle. This is my gun. Johnny, let's. Let's pop open these covers and see who's bringing us this world record breaking.
[01:08:55] Speaker B: I was watching the American Revolution by Ken Burns in honor of our 250 years for our fantastic, perfect, no fault country.
And I was like, I could do that. They walked for two days. And I was like, if I had to, I think I could walk for two days.
[01:09:13] Speaker A: Did they get to. Did they stop? Or was it just like they stop
[01:09:16] Speaker B: for like 20 minutes.
[01:09:17] Speaker A: Dang.
[01:09:17] Speaker B: And they're getting shot at the whole time. I could do that. If you had to live. Come on.
[01:09:22] Speaker A: I think, I think. I think we would amaze ourselves.
[01:09:25] Speaker B: You'd amaze yourself when you put in a position to like.
I think, I think it's true.
[01:09:31] Speaker A: Yeah. When that lizard brain takes over.
[01:09:34] Speaker B: It's not a lizard brain, it's a AI brain. The grays. The Grays are the little AI. Little AI controls this from the Bermuda Triangle and it launches out the orbs and the grays are just like. Like they're not a real species. They're bioengineered to, like, pilot the craft.
[01:09:55] Speaker A: Don't. Doesn't. Does. Don't these aliens have something to do with Jesus? Isn't that the new one?
[01:10:00] Speaker B: They always have.
[01:10:00] Speaker A: They always have.
[01:10:01] Speaker B: Okay, I've heard on. I've seen on Reddit threads that are like, crazy. They're like, they. Aliens do fear when you call out to Jesus Christ.
I'm serious.
[01:10:11] Speaker A: I've heard that.
[01:10:12] Speaker B: It's a deep F. Gone. David. Most people can like. Yes, can confirm.
Dude.
It just. It's not multiple, David. This is all I want to say.
You never get that moment where, like, you see behind the pane of glass or something. We're like, this isn't what we think it.
[01:10:32] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:10:33] Speaker B: You know what I mean?
[01:10:34] Speaker A: Nothing is what we think it is.
[01:10:36] Speaker B: No, we're not right about.
[01:10:37] Speaker A: We're too stupid to actually know what we're looking at.
[01:10:40] Speaker B: It's like the video game that lasted so long, like, tried to figure out the boundaries of the video game.
[01:10:45] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, these multiple people have brought us the story, Johnny. And we got Script flop by Tom McFarlane, art by Brett Booth. Oh, it's Yahoo. It kicks so much ass. It's good art inks by Adelso Corona. Robert Nugent doing the colors.
[01:11:04] Speaker B: I love it.
[01:11:04] Speaker A: Tom Orzikowski doing the letters, Hardest Working man and Spawn.
[01:11:11] Speaker B: Word Business. Word business.
[01:11:14] Speaker A: We got. We covered the covers. Oh, there's a cover.
[01:11:16] Speaker B: Your dog did not like that word business.
[01:11:18] Speaker A: No, he didn't. He didn't. He's. He's a. He's a critic.
Where is this cover C? This cover C is incredible, Johnny.
[01:11:27] Speaker B: Oh, the Christmas one.
[01:11:28] Speaker A: Yeah, it's. It's spawn in an abandoned church and there's like a Christmas tree in the background and then the violators above it being like.
[01:11:37] Speaker B: Well, you imagine it's like the church on Christmas Eve. Like everyone brings up a present or whatever, like for like the homeless gloves or whatever. But like they didn't collect them all. Let's just go home, father. We'll collect them in the morning.
And violators could eat them all.
[01:11:52] Speaker A: Yeah, he's like Krampus.
The creative director is Tom McCarthy.
[01:11:57] Speaker B: Good movie. Krampus is a good movie.
[01:11:59] Speaker A: Yeah, there was a rash of Krampus. You talk about the one specifically called Krampus, okay?
[01:12:05] Speaker B: From the director of your fucking favorite goddamn movie.
[01:12:09] Speaker A: Which one's that?
[01:12:11] Speaker B: Krampus, directed by Michael Daughtery directed goddamn Trick or Treat.
[01:12:18] Speaker A: Oh, nice.
Why do you hate that I like Trick or treat so much?
[01:12:23] Speaker B: I don't, but I can't believe you don't track this.
Trick or treat is your favorite movie. How do you not know? I'm immediately talking about Michael Daughtery's fucking Krampus.
You love Trick or Treat. You fucking love that movie more than anyone ever met.
I like that movie. I own it on Blu Ray and I love that movie. But like, you love it. How do you not?
[01:12:42] Speaker A: So, so, Johnny, I have career after that. I have to. I have to. To try very hard to not be a completionist because I will fall into
[01:12:51] Speaker B: that whole 100% guys, man.
[01:12:54] Speaker A: But that's that. That makes. That makes my enjoyment into work. And I do. I do too much.
Too many of the things I enjoy, I turn into work.
[01:13:04] Speaker B: It's the one with the guy from severance. What's his fucking. Michael Scott? No, that's the guy from the office.
[01:13:09] Speaker A: Adam.
[01:13:11] Speaker B: Adam Scott. Yeah, it's one of him. He's a dad. Yeah, he's like Critters.
[01:13:15] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, I've seen it. It's good.
Yeah,
[01:13:20] Speaker B: you better love it.
[01:13:22] Speaker A: I don't know why you're getting upset for it. I like the movie. It's fun.
So Johnny, Johnny, we've been over this before. I'm much more of a. I'm much more of a book person. So I will do that with. I will do that with literature. I will. If I find a specific, specific author that I'm just like, I fucking love this. I will go out and accidentally buy the same book three times because I forget what I have because I don't keep good records.
Iris Murdoch is somebody that I've been doing that with recently and I've accidentally purchased two different Copies of a severed head?
Because I don't remember what I have.
Iris Murdoch. She's good. Go the Crow.
And the editor in chief is Thomas Healy.
[01:14:03] Speaker B: You didn't get to that yet?
[01:14:05] Speaker A: No.
No.
Previously.
Spawn.
[01:14:12] Speaker B: Just spawn.
[01:14:13] Speaker A: Just spawn. In an effort to hold back the inevitable violence, Spawn strikes a deal with the Vampire Lord Blood.
[01:14:21] Speaker B: Remember at the end of the last issue, they jumped out of the town like, let's fly.
[01:14:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
Like.
So we open on City Scene.
Your work is impeccable.
Though I'm sure you've already heard that, given how in demand you are. We've got this angel sitting on a desk talking to a tied up man who has a black eye and his mouth is taped.
[01:14:49] Speaker B: He's like, well, I'm an angel from an anime.
[01:14:53] Speaker A: Yeah, he's. He's telling us what this. This guy does. He says, you're playing both sides. I see.
Wedging yourself into everyone's affairs.
And so with him, he's like, I
[01:15:11] Speaker B: like your little doggy.
[01:15:13] Speaker A: He's like, normally I just kill humans, but I've been ordered not to do that.
And yeah, so he starts threatening the dog.
[01:15:20] Speaker B: He looks like fucking Sephiroth.
[01:15:22] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, I'm sure. I'm sure there's probably an inspiration there.
[01:15:26] Speaker B: Johnny Sephiroth. Remember that song?
[01:15:30] Speaker A: You've sang it to me before, but I've never played. What? I've never played. I've never played the.
[01:15:34] Speaker B: I thought that was one of the games your sister owned on the PlayStation she hid from you.
[01:15:39] Speaker A: What, Final Fantasy VII?
[01:15:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:15:43] Speaker A: I don't think I ever saw her get past like the second level.
[01:15:50] Speaker B: It's called. This name of the song is like angel with a Doomed Wings. It's ridiculous.
Yeah, it's so good.
[01:15:58] Speaker A: And so. So while this angel is shaking this dog, threatening, threatening this guy by, you
[01:16:05] Speaker B: know, One winged Angel. It's called One Winged angel is the name of the Sephiroth song.
[01:16:08] Speaker A: Nice. Well, that means he's crazy.
And then I know, like a whisper, the shadows shift and blood says, put the dog down gently.
He's just standing there like, put the dog. Put the bunny back in the box.
Animal cruelty. That's what heaven's elite force has been reduced to. How long you trained for that?
I like how it should have been. Either he starts with the quip about animal cruelty or says, put the dog down. But not both of them.
Having both of them negates them a little bit. So he needs to be sassy or he needs to be commanding. That's what I mean about Todd McFarlane. Doing everything twice.
[01:16:55] Speaker B: Yes, I understand.
[01:16:57] Speaker A: Says the man who's been growling at our feet for centuries like a dog.
[01:17:02] Speaker B: Then they start hitting each other.
[01:17:03] Speaker A: They start hitting each other and then spawn like eeks out of the shadows. And Blood is like, no, I've got this.
Brought along a friend. Did you. Why you too afraid to face me alone?
[01:17:15] Speaker B: All this feels like. You know what I mean? Like a super Nintendo. Still image of the guy's mouth like, wow, you met a friend afraid to face me alone. It feels like the cutscene of a SNES game.
[01:17:25] Speaker A: Yeah, it does.
[01:17:26] Speaker B: Not in a bad way.
[01:17:27] Speaker A: Yeah. And then Blood says, who said I was on my own? And then the two page spread reveals behind the angel a legion of.
What are they?
[01:17:38] Speaker B: People from the. The Mutiny bar in Chicago.
[01:17:41] Speaker A: Yeah, the.
[01:17:42] Speaker B: It's now close rip, man.
[01:17:44] Speaker A: I talk about that bar all the goddamn time.
[01:17:47] Speaker B: It was great.
[01:17:47] Speaker A: Oh, man, I remember we played like
[01:17:51] Speaker B: Dark Knight 2, Dark Knight Pinball before we saw Dark Knight Rises.
[01:17:55] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, it was great.
This is a whole bunch of vampires behind.
[01:17:59] Speaker B: The other thing, the other thing I remember seeing Dark Knight rise rises is Aaron brought. He had just bought weed. So he had a whole bag of fresh weed in his pocket in a plastic baggie. Like halfway through, I got. That was high as 2, but I got so paranoid that we smelled so much like weed that I barely enjoyed the movie.
[01:18:16] Speaker A: Oh, man, that's funny.
[01:18:18] Speaker B: But he reeked. He said, like he had like a fucking eighth in a bag in his pocket.
[01:18:25] Speaker A: That. That is a risky move. That is. That is a. That is a. You go home immediately afterwards.
[01:18:29] Speaker B: That was like 2012. That was like 2012.
[01:18:31] Speaker A: Yeah.
That's funny.
Yes, yes, I'm trying to.
[01:18:39] Speaker B: So he shows his full glory, all his friends in the background. Very Night of the Living Dead.
[01:18:45] Speaker A: Yes, it is also to go through
[01:18:46] Speaker B: it again because we mentioned I live again. I got Night of Living Dead seven. Okay.
Night of Living Dead seven, perfect blue.
[01:18:53] Speaker A: Yeah. And then. And then this horde. This horde of vampires is usually drawn to spawn, but there's something much stinkier and. And delicious.
[01:19:04] Speaker B: Ebony and Angel. I love the. I love the main vampire that's always framed as the guy in the skull. Like the misfit. He looks like.
Yeah, he looks like John and Ramon.
[01:19:14] Speaker A: Yeah, he does. And so they just like. They just like fling themselves out there. They're running like the weapons kids. Johnny.
[01:19:21] Speaker B: I haven't seen it yet. Dude. Let's fucking spoil it.
[01:19:24] Speaker A: It's referenced on the fucking cover of the goddamn fucking 4K.
[01:19:27] Speaker B: You just.
Yeah, I know. I've seen the trailer. I don't know why they're running now
[01:19:33] Speaker A: that I won't spoil.
So, so they, they all, they all bum rush the angel and he, he like heavens lights them away. And then I like, then he elbows
[01:19:43] Speaker B: the guy in the head, the guy with the afro.
[01:19:48] Speaker A: I think that's my favorite part of the issue.
[01:19:49] Speaker B: That's why I loved it. That's why I like this issue. Lockser felt it felt like 90s spot.
[01:19:54] Speaker A: Yeah. It's almost unfair, Johnny.
[01:19:58] Speaker B: Like if we're gonna get Tom McFarlane schlock, this feels like good.
[01:20:01] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:20:02] Speaker B: Or maybe it's just desensitized me and I accept it.
[01:20:04] Speaker A: Yeah.
And then, and then Blood's just like everybody stop after the angel after a little bit. And the angel's like well guess what Blood? I'm gonna deal with you too. And he tries to Heaven's light.
[01:20:17] Speaker B: Blood too is having like gets a sun in his fucking chest.
[01:20:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
This time however, the same energy that knocked Blood to his knees previously has no effect.
I know all your tricks, Blood says. Because he's studied and watched Heaven's army his entire existence.
[01:20:35] Speaker B: The entire existence, David.
[01:20:38] Speaker A: And so, so then Blood does his, his, his vampire hypnosis gaze and do my eyes.
[01:20:45] Speaker B: You looking very sleepy.
[01:20:48] Speaker A: You want to see real power? I'll show you. A simple nod of his head is all it takes, Johnny.
And then all of the, all of the vampires jump.
[01:20:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Rip him the fucking apart.
[01:21:00] Speaker A: Jump onto the angel. And previously it was mentioned that these are low ranking vampires, so they can't fly. That's important to mention before this. But I do like how three days from now a scout from his party will come across at least what remains of it. Feathers and blood scattered in a 20 foot radius will point to the only conclusion possible that he was eaten alive.
And they're just ripping into him, Johnny.
[01:21:27] Speaker B: And then the next exact next line from what you just read is. Yeah, Blood lets them. Let them have their way for 10 minutes.
So what does he do with Spawn for 10 minutes?
Candy Crush.
[01:21:40] Speaker A: They're. They're playing, they're playing a little bit of mancala.
[01:21:44] Speaker B: No, he's checking, he's checking his.
What's the, what's the betting market that you can bet on?
[01:21:50] Speaker A: DraftKings?
[01:21:51] Speaker B: Yeah. No. You bet on anything?
[01:21:53] Speaker A: Oh, I don't, I don't know the name of it.
Sorry.
[01:21:57] Speaker B: It's right on the tip of my tongue.
[01:21:59] Speaker A: Did it start with a Y?
[01:22:01] Speaker B: No. Now we're just gonna focus.
[01:22:04] Speaker A: Hold on a second. Because my one of My friends mentioned it about that building Poly Market.
[01:22:09] Speaker B: The Poly Market, Kalashi. Yeah. That's one of the apps you can use to access the Polymarket.
We could bet on, like, if we get 200 listeners in Richmond, Virginia tomorrow,
[01:22:23] Speaker A: I'm good.
And then so, so he says, that's enough.
[01:22:27] Speaker B: I never liked betting. I'm not a better.
[01:22:29] Speaker A: I'm not a better either.
[01:22:30] Speaker B: I have my vices, but I like. I've never gotten a thrill.
I've always gotten hoes.
[01:22:35] Speaker A: Yeah. And it just. It doesn't do.
[01:22:38] Speaker B: I'd rather spend my money like.
I don't know, like my gambling fix. I got dopamine hit is like. Like buying a DVD or for example, or like playing a $60 video game that I got where I know I'm getting like all the content if I can earn it. And I get the dopamine hit from get. Unlocking stuff within that.
[01:22:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:22:59] Speaker B: $60 purchase.
[01:23:00] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:23:00] Speaker B: I'd rather put the $60 down, buy a video game and unlock stuff within that than like waste $5,000.
[01:23:07] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:23:07] Speaker B: I'm trying to get that dopamine head.
[01:23:09] Speaker A: Yeah, that's true.
Then Blood says, that's enough. Use what you've been infused with. And then they just, like. They're just like standing there. And then they grow wings, Johnny.
[01:23:22] Speaker B: They fly.
[01:23:23] Speaker A: They're flying. These, these. These unflying, unwinged vampires have gained the power of flight from eating this.
[01:23:30] Speaker B: And then the weirdest part is the little one with the hat says, this isn't flying. This is falling with style.
The one in the sheriff's hat.
[01:23:41] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:23:43] Speaker B: Just like Sally the Rag Doll.
[01:23:46] Speaker A: Their appetite is whetted. Three other angels will lose their lives tonight.
[01:23:55] Speaker B: There's like. They should show that there's like an Asia watching, like Taxi Cab Confessions under his house.
[01:24:04] Speaker A: So then Spawn and Blood turn their attention to the lone human in the room.
[01:24:08] Speaker B: No, the other funny thing is they show it's. And that's what you're talking about. His double down. He's the double down. He's the KFC double down.
[01:24:15] Speaker A: Yeah. He.
[01:24:17] Speaker B: He talks about how the scout team finds his body later.
[01:24:20] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:24:20] Speaker B: And then we see full. Almost two page spread.
[01:24:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:24:24] Speaker B: The aftermath.
[01:24:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:24:25] Speaker B: So we see it.
That feels like the more appropriate time to mention the scout part.
[01:24:30] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:24:31] Speaker B: Is when you see. Also, you just don't have to mention the scout part. It's like he didn't know he was gonna write that you saw the body, so he's put it in there. In case you forgot to mention that I got killed. Yeah. We know he got get eaten for 10 minutes.
[01:24:45] Speaker A: Yeah, look at that.
[01:24:46] Speaker B: He's just like everyone played on his blood plate. Candy Crush and Spotless Evil Solitary.
[01:24:52] Speaker A: I wonder if the dog peeing on the corpse was a Todd McFarlane invention or a Brett Booth invention.
[01:24:58] Speaker B: I thought he was eating it.
[01:24:59] Speaker A: No, he's peeing on it. It literally says piss.
[01:25:03] Speaker B: Oh, you're right.
I missed the piss. I thought he was eating it. I think he's licking. He's licking the face and pissing on.
[01:25:15] Speaker A: I mean, I've met dogs, and that's what they do.
And blood's like, go ahead, Spawn. He's yours. He owes us since we saved his dog. And so. So then Spawn's like, I'm gonna take the tape off your mouth and don't scream. And like, so Spawn pulls the tape off, and the guy just goes, ah. And Spot's like, I told him not to scream.
It just hurts.
[01:25:39] Speaker B: It hurts.
[01:25:40] Speaker A: It hurts. Come on, bud.
[01:25:42] Speaker B: He just saw. He. In the last 20 minutes, he realized demons, angels, and vampires exist, and they all try to kill him. And he saw his dog lick and piss on an angel.
Get. The man can scream.
[01:25:54] Speaker A: Well, no, the dude. The dude knew that angels, demons, and vampires existed because he plays all the sides.
[01:26:00] Speaker B: All right.
[01:26:00] Speaker A: Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[01:26:01] Speaker B: But he saw some.
[01:26:03] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. And so then he's telling, you know, Spawn's trying to get some information out of him. And he's like, you know. Well, you know, a lot of these. A lot of these angels and. And people there, they've got some infighting. So they're all, like, buying their own land so they can have, like, their own home base for when goes down.
[01:26:19] Speaker B: That's what we want is a. Is a real estate plot.
[01:26:23] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:26:23] Speaker B: To building bunkers all over the world. Johnny, what the is this?
Did the world just like, not everything has to be like, yo, they're built every. This is the Todd McFarlane double down.
[01:26:38] Speaker A: Yeah, well, but I mean, they literally just had that when the dead zone.
[01:26:43] Speaker B: But he's like, something's gonna happen. Everyone's preparing for it. And then he's gonna. Is he waiting for what, 380? What's the next 390? 400. 400?
[01:26:53] Speaker A: Yeah, dude.
[01:26:54] Speaker B: The bunkers. The bunkers are gonna be a big part of the Spawn lower up till 400, I bet.
[01:26:58] Speaker A: I guess. And then we go to Omega island and we see Johnny. We see Sin.
[01:27:03] Speaker B: Okay, buddy?
Ah, Sid. Like, we need to see. Like, that's the thing that sucks.
It's like, as a fan, I want to see Sim be like, ah. I want to see the moment where he walks back to Omega island, like my home. Like he's just there.
[01:27:19] Speaker A: He like, he like looks down the well that he was. He was, he was captured in.
[01:27:24] Speaker B: But he's building this lore and he knows a little. But like I know more about it than he does.
[01:27:29] Speaker A: Yeah. You know what I mean?
[01:27:30] Speaker B: And that's what it feels like sometimes. It's sin is like sin. Sin coming back from the dead and coming to Omega Island. If you want to bring sin back, that's a big deal. That's cool. But you gotta play. You can't just like kind of gloss over it.
[01:27:43] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:27:44] Speaker B: I don't know.
[01:27:44] Speaker A: I mean he has Johnny, so what can you do?
So Sid is just like sitting on his chair staring at this bone fragment that he had his lackeys pick up
[01:27:54] Speaker B: the last issue when he was watching the. The National Geographic Channel.
[01:27:59] Speaker A: Yeah. And another of his lackey says, you sure you want to do this, Sin? And Sin just doesn't say anything. And he just like distills the last little bit of K. K7 Letha juice from. From his suit that he has. And it's just like this little bitty. It's like a little bitty.
What's the word? It's like a little resin ball.
There will be.
[01:28:21] Speaker B: It's like that weird candy that was on paper. Like the dots.
[01:28:23] Speaker A: Oh yeah.
[01:28:24] Speaker B: Remember those?
[01:28:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:28:25] Speaker B: Why was that a candy?
[01:28:26] Speaker A: I don't know, Johnny.
There will be no second chance.
And then another one is Lackey comes up and he says, my Lord, I'm told you require my assistance.
And since just like touch the. Touch that bone.
Okay, cool.
Okay, wait.
[01:28:43] Speaker B: Also touch this while you're touching that boat.
[01:28:45] Speaker A: Also touch this little bitty ball on my finger.
[01:28:47] Speaker B: But don't, but don't, don't, don't. Don't let go.
[01:28:49] Speaker A: Don't let go. And then, and then, and then, you know, once. Once the, once the connection is made, there's just like this explosion of necroplasm.
[01:28:58] Speaker B: The guy gets crispified.
[01:29:00] Speaker A: Yeah, he gets, he gets like.
Like he, he literally. That's. That's exactly what happened to Sin when he got blown up in 350.
It's like the exact same panel. And then just like sin is awash in this energy, this hellish matter that never really got in the first place.
And so, so all this energy is. Is working and it's about to reanimate them itself.
[01:29:25] Speaker B: Johnny.
[01:29:26] Speaker A: And we see.
This is beautiful. Beautiful. What is this? It's a It's. It's an actual Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen.
[01:29:33] Speaker B: Is that. Is that Malbolia, though, with his horns? Is that mobile?
[01:29:37] Speaker A: I'm. I'm assuming it might be Male Bolshevik. I haven't read 372 yet, so I don't know.
That's the issue. We get the necroplasm meter. 4393.
[01:29:46] Speaker B: Good number.
[01:29:47] Speaker A: Good number. 4393.
[01:29:48] Speaker B: That's a good passcode. Like, hey, it's 4393.
[01:29:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:29:53] Speaker B: Megan and I were watching National Treasure on July 4th in the afternoon. And, like, the part where he has to just. They decipher a pasco from a guy's fingerprints on the access keyboard. And he's, like, sitting there. He's like, the guy can't figure out the computer. And Nick Cage says. He goes, it's Valley Forge. Valley Forge.
The movie's a hoot. That's a good movie.
[01:30:14] Speaker A: The first time I saw it was in a charter bus on a high school trip.
[01:30:18] Speaker B: I thought he would say church.
[01:30:20] Speaker A: No, actually, surprisingly that the first time I saw army of Darkness was at church, though, because it was. It was a youth group movie night, and there was a group of people who were like, hey, can we go watch this one in another room while you guys are watching that one?
[01:30:34] Speaker B: Where are you guys watching? What's that one?
[01:30:36] Speaker A: I don't. I don't fucking know. Because I went to go watch army of Darkness.
[01:30:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:30:39] Speaker A: I've been wanting to watch that movie for a decade at that point.
A decade. I got the image. Classic set. Nimor Spawns Universe. Johnny.
[01:30:51] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:30:52] Speaker A: All right, now, we have covered every single one of those ones, Johnny. All three.
[01:30:57] Speaker B: Okay, good.
Thank Christ.
[01:31:01] Speaker A: We got the Fallout Toy ads, and then we got the Call of duty spawn ad.
That is spawn 371. And, well, Johnny, this one. Yeah, it's good. It's a good time. It's a good time. Oh. Oh, Johnny. And right on cue, we got. We got a little bitty.
[01:31:17] Speaker B: The puppy's whining.
[01:31:18] Speaker A: We got a little whiny doggy here. Oh, Mr. Dingus.
[01:31:20] Speaker B: Oh, he knows it's his time.
[01:31:22] Speaker A: He's such a good puppy. Johnny. That's a. That's. That's my way of saying it's time to rate the puppies.
[01:31:28] Speaker B: It's time to rate the puppies.
First up, we King Swan 52.
I thought it was perfect. It's a great, like.
[01:31:37] Speaker A: Oh, it's so fun.
[01:31:38] Speaker B: It's like a top 10 intro to Spawn. It was fun. It's. It reminds me of, like, an episodic story. Like Twilight Zone or old Star Trek. Or like, just like any. Like we were talking about. Like, it's this great pulp story where you have a general idea of Spawn. You will enjoy the story. And that's what I feel like Spawn needs.
[01:31:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:31:58] Speaker B: And what is the best thing going on with Spawn?
I'm gonna give it five pills that Rodney took.
[01:32:10] Speaker A: What's. What's. I'll have what he said.
[01:32:13] Speaker B: I didn't give him. No. He didn't have no pills. I was with them all night. That one guy says that five pills down Rodney's shoe.
[01:32:20] Speaker A: Hell yeah.
Yeah. I love. I love that this is like the complete opposite direction of Todd McFarlane. Because Todd McFarlane's like, you gotta know everything about Spawn. And this is. Is just like. Spawn's a spooky.
[01:32:32] Speaker B: He's like a force of nature who.
[01:32:34] Speaker A: You know absolutely nothing about. This. This book just rocks. I'm gonna give it five lemonades, Johnny. Because we stay in a sober king.
[01:32:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:32:45] Speaker A: And, Johnny, you know what that means.
[01:32:48] Speaker B: It's an entrance into the Hellfire class.
[01:32:51] Speaker A: Hell, yeah, it is. These ones. These. They've been cooking, Johnny.
The fires of hell. They can cook. Cook. They can cook.
[01:32:59] Speaker B: The art's fantastic.
[01:33:01] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. It's so good. It's so creepy.
[01:33:03] Speaker B: Good reason I always knocked out of the park. It just tells the story. It felt like a movie. It felt like. This is a creepy concept. It's such a good concept. It's such a good idea.
[01:33:12] Speaker A: It's so good.
[01:33:13] Speaker B: Like, from execution. From concept. Execution is a good story. Drawn well and told in a. In a way that you have to pay attention and like. It. It gives you the information.
And it's just. It's like. I know that sounds weird, but like, in the year of our Lord 2026, just a well made little story is very refreshing.
[01:33:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:33:34] Speaker B: It was like a breath of fresh air.
[01:33:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:33:37] Speaker B: It's so five out of five.
[01:33:39] Speaker A: Five just across the board.
[01:33:40] Speaker B: Next was spawn 371.
[01:33:42] Speaker A: Yes.
[01:33:43] Speaker B: Which I really enjoyed.
[01:33:45] Speaker A: It was. It was fun. It was fun.
Both times I read it, I had a good time.
But I do. I do wish that it wouldn't double up on what it was saying.
[01:33:56] Speaker B: Saying, I'm just enjoying at this point.
[01:33:59] Speaker A: It's.
[01:34:00] Speaker B: It's like enjoying the. The battle droids farting in the pit or whatever. It's just like. It's. That's. There's old time. At least.
[01:34:06] Speaker A: At least in this issue. It doesn't get in Its way of telling the story. It just makes me turn on editor brain being like, yeah, he probably. He could have cut that, and it could have been cleaner.
[01:34:16] Speaker B: Like. And I don't want to, like, project. Like, okay, I don't want to project or, like, try to, like, read people's minds. But, like, it's interesting these two issues paired, because I feel like Todd McFarlane's, like, you know, at least glancing at the other sponsor universe, and he's, like, feeling the heat.
[01:34:30] Speaker A: He's trying to be like, oh, maybe. Maybe better. Maybe I should do a little. Maybe I should do a little.
[01:34:34] Speaker B: He's like, he's. And then the dog pisses on, licks his face.
Like, seriously. But I think he's trying to be like. I think he. Like, this is just my own fan, like, reading from the outside. I have no idea the machinations of the company.
But, like, it feels like he's like, I better step it up. Okay. He just fade.
[01:34:51] Speaker A: Like.
[01:34:51] Speaker B: I don't know. It was better. It was better than the crossover.
[01:34:54] Speaker A: Oh, Jesus. Much better than the fucking goddamn safari issue.
[01:34:59] Speaker B: Oh, my.
[01:35:00] Speaker A: What the. Come on.
[01:35:01] Speaker B: But, like, if we're talking about bunkers and land acquisition for years. But I just. It's. Again, it's like the gunslinger thing. He has this continuity, and, like, he uses it when he wants to.
[01:35:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:35:13] Speaker B: But, like, there's not ever payoff, so he doesn't want to change. He never changes the status quo in a significant way.
[01:35:22] Speaker A: Yeah. Like, if as soon as stuff starts happening, he's like, whoa, hold on. Hold on a second. We got to go back to the beginning.
[01:35:28] Speaker B: Right?
[01:35:29] Speaker A: It's.
[01:35:30] Speaker B: And it's like, why?
And that's. And, like, it's such a minuscule part of the issue. Because when I think about this issue, I think about the blood and stuff with the angel, because that was really good.
[01:35:41] Speaker A: Yeah. Or sin.
[01:35:44] Speaker B: There's the sin stuff in there, and it's like, you need the scene of sin. Like, ah, good to be home with, like, he's like, two lieutenants walking on the Omega island. Yeah.
[01:35:54] Speaker A: Like, it's. It's just like. Like, it's a. It's dusty and, like, there's a. There's a tarp over that big chair. And he just, like. He just, like, walks in and he sits up there, but he throws his feet up, and he's like, I'm home, boys.
[01:36:06] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly. Because, like, that Omega island's such a big deal we're always talking about.
[01:36:10] Speaker A: It's like.
[01:36:10] Speaker B: And we know that's his home base. But like, what a great storytelling moment that you. What a missed opportunity.
[01:36:17] Speaker A: Like, how many, how many times did they do that in Game of Thrones where they finally clear out the people and somebody.
Yeah, like, I think we need that. We need that.
[01:36:27] Speaker B: I do too. And that's. It's just frustrating to me that like he's just automate island again. And it's like, but show us that.
[01:36:35] Speaker A: Yeah, you.
[01:36:36] Speaker B: You're telling us over and over again that this guy's dead. He got eaten, he got pissed on three times. But you can't show us sin getting back on Omega island. Like that should have been like at least an issue plot line. If he's on a boat, you don't know where he's going.
[01:36:50] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. He's just. There's like, there's like a shadowy figure that keeps, keeps like paying for passage on boats and weird shit starts happening. These guys are like, I'm never, I'm never picking up another drifter again.
Right? Yeah.
[01:37:03] Speaker B: Then he gets there. God damn it.
[01:37:05] Speaker A: That would have been fucking. That would have been fucking great. Why did we go to. Why did we go to the fucking lion shaped mountain and go to the eyeball? Why? What was that?
[01:37:15] Speaker B: It's like the Lost World. You go back, it's like in ruins. He's like, I will make this my kingdom. God damn it. I'm going to pissed off more. But I like this issue. I had fun. Rhett Booth is maximalist as hell.
[01:37:26] Speaker A: Oh, it's so good.
[01:37:27] Speaker B: It's so fun to look at the, the sinewage, the. And all the, the ripping of the face of the angel.
[01:37:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:37:34] Speaker B: For 10 minutes.
[01:37:35] Speaker A: It is nasty. It is awesome.
[01:37:38] Speaker B: Also, if all those guys ate him for 10 minutes, I feel like he'd be more.
[01:37:41] Speaker A: I. I feel like there would be less. Less of him there. Yeah.
[01:37:44] Speaker B: I think it would just be bone.
[01:37:45] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:37:46] Speaker B: Because if I'm eating a dude and I'm a vampire, I'm getting to a bone.
[01:37:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:37:50] Speaker B: Because you get to like get the fun part. There's a.
[01:37:52] Speaker A: There's a lot of them there. There's a lot of vampire.
[01:37:55] Speaker B: But maybe they're so hungry their stomachs.
[01:37:57] Speaker A: Well, I mean, they got, they're. They're so hungry they eat three other angels.
[01:38:02] Speaker B: But why did they finish that angel?
[01:38:05] Speaker A: I mean, you know, sometimes, sometimes you just get tired of, of one taste and you got to go to something else.
[01:38:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
Great art. Maximalist rep. Booth, we love him.
[01:38:16] Speaker A: Yeah.
Wacky writing.
[01:38:20] Speaker B: Just like missed opportunities is like not. Yeah.
[01:38:23] Speaker A: I don't know. Yeah.
[01:38:24] Speaker B: Four out of five, David. I'm gonna give it four feathers that the scout team found three days later. Out of five.
[01:38:30] Speaker A: Nice. I'm gonna.
I'll give it a four. Two. I'm gonna give it four. Elbows into the afro.
[01:38:36] Speaker B: Yeah, I knew I don't want to take it from.
[01:38:39] Speaker A: I do, I do love how perfect, perfect Biafro is a couple of pages later. So it's good to know.
[01:38:44] Speaker B: It's good to know.
[01:38:45] Speaker A: No permanent damage to the vampire.
[01:38:47] Speaker B: I like the continuity of the little background vampire. It's fun. It was fun. And there's just like, oh, by the way, Sins back on a mega island and he's got like a Metroid boss, like, helping him.
[01:38:59] Speaker A: You just don't see. You just don't see a character with an afro that big very often anymore. Feels like a. Like a bygone. A bygone thing.
[01:39:08] Speaker B: It's very popular in the middle to mid 2000s.
[01:39:12] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. But yeah, real good, Johnny. You know what else is real good?
[01:39:20] Speaker B: More Spawn.
[01:39:20] Speaker A: More Spawn. Would you like to do some.
[01:39:22] Speaker B: Well, I'm skipping out of order. What else? Tell you. Tell me what's.
[01:39:26] Speaker A: Well, Johnny, the. I was actually happy with what you did because I forgot to look up somebody to shout out because the endorsement of the Spawn unity are so good to us.
[01:39:34] Speaker B: Let's just not do it. Let's shout out everybody.
[01:39:36] Speaker A: So just. Just go to Instagram and type in Spawn and start looking at all the things that are there. Because there's a lot of cool Spawn wise on Instagram right now. So just Instagram search Spawn.
Just go. The first. One of the first things you're gonna hit, you're gonna hit. You're gonna hit Spawn Hunter. You're gonna hit Tiny Spawn. You're gonna hit Petrus Bonnie, you're gonna hit G40 punk. G42.
[01:40:01] Speaker B: My favorite is Spawn a Day.
[01:40:04] Speaker A: I haven't seen Spawn A day yet.
[01:40:05] Speaker B: We follow them. They have a YouTube channel too. But every day they release some form of small content like the past, like an ad, like a trailer. It's great.
[01:40:15] Speaker A: So, yeah, just. Just look for the Spawn Immunity on Instagram. It's great.
Then also, you know what else is awesome? While you're on the Internet doing Spawn Immunity, looking at all the cool stuff that is Spawn, our music out there, Our music is done by Lonnie Bones. So just Google Lonnie Bones music and give him some love as well.
If you're on Instagram, look at it. Spa immunity stuff. Look at us. Regarding Spawn Pod, which brings us to the email address that we mentioned earlier regarding spawn podmail.com.
we're maybe a little rusty. We haven't done this in a couple of weeks.
So if you want to send us an email, please send us an email. We would love to have an email from you. We would love for you to just email us an address.
And then in like, 10 days after you send that email and we read it, you'll receive a trade paperback courtesy of United States Post Office Media mail of the 1993 Violator miniseries.
I would.
[01:41:17] Speaker B: I would love to.
[01:41:18] Speaker A: Just don't even. Don't even bother saying anything. Just send us an email with a. With an address.
We'll send it.
Yes, you can also send us an email that just says stuff. If you want to talk about some spawn with us, we'd love to do that, too.
But you know what else we would love to do?
Probably even more than sending you a trade paperback or listening to you talk about us.
Talk to us about how much you love Spawn. We would like to talk to you more about how much we like Spawn and Spawn Universe.
[01:41:55] Speaker B: Yes, David, but I have to. I have to say something.
[01:41:57] Speaker A: Yes.
[01:41:58] Speaker B: I can't let the elephant in the room pass us by.
[01:42:01] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:42:03] Speaker B: We've missed some weeks.
We're both. I'm 40. David's what, like 36?
[01:42:08] Speaker A: 38.
[01:42:09] Speaker B: Ass. 38. Whatever, you little baby.
[01:42:12] Speaker A: Yeah, we have.
[01:42:15] Speaker B: Life is crazy. And we've been busy. And our goal is to release an episode every week. And I know we used to do. Apologies.
We may not. Sometimes it may not happen. But, like, we're getting there. We're getting over the hump.
It's just. Life can get in the way.
[01:42:31] Speaker A: Finds a way.
[01:42:31] Speaker B: And we want this. It always finds a way to fuck with you. We want it. We want to keep this enjoyable for everyone that listens. Yes, we want to keep it as often as possible. But sometimes we might miss a week. If we do, you can email us at recording Spawn Pod and get a free copy of the Violence.
[01:42:47] Speaker A: Yeah.
Be great. I'd like it. That's good. That's good, Johnny. It's good. But for next week, we're gonna read some more Spawn Universe.
And specifically, what you should find to read before you come listen to us next week or the week after, whenever we're gonna. It'll be next week.
We're gonna fuck it. Next week we're gonna read scorched 49 and the curse of Shirley Johnson number four.
So that's gonna be. It's gonna be a good little wham bam. Pow.
Scorched 49.
Curse of Shirley Johnson, number four.
Tying it back into that ice cream truck, Johnny, let me.
[01:43:25] Speaker B: Let me tap one of my favorite Oingo Boingo lyrics. Turn a phrase is, what song is it? Is this on the dark at the end of the tunnel?
And it goes wham, bam, thank you, Bam.
Wasn't this a pleasant life Wishing
[01:43:47] Speaker A: beautiful Jenny.
[01:43:48] Speaker B: Play the track underneath it.
[01:43:50] Speaker A: We'll see. We'll see what the ever.
[01:43:54] Speaker B: All right.
We love Swan.
[01:43:57] Speaker A: We love you. Yes, absolutely.
It's. It's good. It's a good time. We love it. We enjoy it. We enjoy. We love it. And on that note, Johnny, I don't think I have any more spawn jokes to make or anything else to say, but may this court should be with you.
[01:44:16] Speaker B: And also with you, David.
[01:44:17] Speaker A: Hell, yeah.
[01:44:19] Speaker B: Hell to the yizza.
[01:44:21] Speaker A: Yeah, man.
He literally wrote the word piss and you didn't see it, stupid.
[01:44:30] Speaker B: I was worried about the dog eating his face, David.
[01:44:33] Speaker A: That's. That's. That's actually what I thought, too, until I saw the word piss.
[01:44:37] Speaker B: I didn't see the piss.
I missed the piss.
[01:44:40] Speaker A: Probably because you got the digital version and maybe, like, you were just zoomed in, like it showed you the dog, but not the word piss.
I do like that. The insistence that obviously we're not going to pay attention to the piss that is coming out of the dog, so they have to write the word piss,
[01:45:02] Speaker B: David, in case you can't, don't notice I'm typing the word logging off.
[01:45:10] Speaker A: Well, good. Rinse,
[01:45:27] Speaker B: Ram.
